The Heads with Jono and Ben, New Zealand's breakfast.
Well over the weekend I was getting involved in more wholesome activities,
so that's what I do, better person of the show.
Actually over the weekend, yeah, because we're over 50 days now of lockdown in Auckland,
and yeah, sure we've got picnics.
A lot of picnics.
Gee whiz, driving around you can sort of see that, you know,
when they said all go for picnics, people went all go for picnics.
Never seen so much picnicking in my life.
Even when the weather was very changeable, people were like, we're going to picnic because we can.
It's the only thing we're allowed to do.
Sit on a blanket.
At home over the weekend, my daughters, Sienna and Indy, they were like, hey, we want to put on like a hotel and a restaurant for my wife and I, for Amanda and I.
I was like, oh, that's a nice thing.
So they wanted to do this. So even got to the role play of us having to get bags
and go outside and come back in
and knock on your own front door, which was weird.
Did you have to pack your suitcases?
Well, they were empty suitcases.
You never know what to pack when you go away.
So you would have...
But you see people walking down the street going,
they can't be turning up at someone else's house.
The narc line would have been open.
Bursting their bubble.
But the girls, as we opened the door,
what I didn't realise for the hotel and restaurant
that my daughters were putting on
was they decided to put it on, which is lovely.
It was an awesome thing,
but they were doing it on roller skates.
That was the gimmick of the hotel and also restaurant.
All the staff were on roller skates.
She's insurance premiums for this place
must be through the roof.
In theory, not a good idea
because very nerve wracking like having them
serve food, having them like
prepare food. I'm like, this is
just, yeah, it's a very bad business model, but
they persisted with it. She's, they must have an ACC
case manager and an entire team
just for this hotel and the injury
claims they get from the roller skating hotel
slash restaurant. Were there injuries?
It was very close. I mean, they're very good on roller skates but carrying putting food and then i'm you know
i was getting drinks as a patron of the hotel you were concerned i was getting involved i was like
why is this guy so concerned about our cutlery and glassware well are you gonna smash that
he's just a guest he's a guest. It means nothing to him.
So I kind of stopped the role play after a while.
But it did remind me of you and I, Jono.
We actually were in America when we went there once for filming.
Remember we went to an actual, it was like a roller skating diner.
Diner, yeah.
Yeah, it was one of those old scores.
And we got to be servers for the night on roller skates.
Oh, you were on the roller skates?
Yeah, they let us be servers for a teamy thing.
Oh, my goodness.
And to join in the team, you're like, oh skates yeah we got to yeah they let they let us be servers for a team oh my goodness and and to join in the team you're like oh we're spilling food yeah that lady yeah and she was like it's all right it's all right and i was just yeah it wasn't all right
it was an entire milkshake over her lap oh my goodness and it wasn't i could did not do it on
purpose because i could tell you didn't do it on purpose for tv, my gosh. I can tell you didn't do it on purpose for TV. You know, like, I'm like, oh, he didn't mean to do that.
Yeah.
And...
Shit.
And...
It was like you were transported back in time to Grease Lightning, the movie, weren't you?
That place.
Even the people were like...
Yeah.
That's who they were.
Right.
The sun was like, hey, how you been?
How you going?
And this Italian guy with a just swerving, tight black T-shirt and all his babes.
He had a harem of ladies with him.
It was just one guy.
He was outnumbered eight to one.
And they were all sitting in a booth
and he was kind of like the owner's son.
Hey, hey.
He had the guns.
And she was a hardworking Italian lady.
The mother, she was wonderful, wasn't she?
She was.
She was like, hey, sugar, come here.
Give me a kiss on the cheek and sort of slap you on the tush.
But you could tell after you spilled that milkshake on the people. Things turned. They were like, uh-oh, come here, and give me a kiss on the cheek and sort of slap you on the tush. But you could tell after you spilt that milkshake on the people.
Things turned.
They were like, uh-oh, we shouldn't have let these guys
come in the roller skating restaurant.
And it reminded me of that over the weekend.
Well, to be fair, you shouldn't have a roller skating restaurant.
More importantly.
And then idiots from TV shows in New Zealand wouldn't call you
trying to be part of it.
That's what I told the kids too.
I was like, hey, you shouldn't be doing this.
A lot of ACC claims.
