I should have bought you... A time where many people are doing filler content in your line of work. Maybe you're in sales or retail,
and I'm sure you're just sort of just filling in time before it all ends.
And at the moment we're watching on the breakfast TV shows.
They're doing some stuff, aren't they?
I'll be the first to say we're probably doing some stuff too,
just sort of dragging over to the finish line.
They're playing a game of headbands,
so that game where you have to guess who you are
and then one of the persons is a cat
and you have to guess who he is at the moment.
She asks questions and you have to guess.
So they're playing that game at the moment,
which is fun.
Okay, we're going to play a game of headbands.
If it's good enough for Breakfast TV,
it's good enough for our podcast.
Now I'm going to write the name of someone being boys
and then you... Don't do anyone controversial. the name of someone being boys. And then you.
Don't do anyone controversial.
I won't do anyone controversial.
I won't.
It'll just be.
Who's Jeffrey Epstein?
Oh, don't.
Don't.
Oh, don't.
Is it?
No.
It's.
Maybe it is.
I'll hold it above my head.
I'll hold it above my head.
Okay.
Okay.
All right.
It's controversial.
First question.
Is it?
So these are yes or no questions. it's an easy guess depends who's asking
well I'm asking
is this
is this person controversial
it depends
no
hold it up to your head
no
I don't
no
you're playing headbands
come on then
headbands
I'm playing you
on the R18 version
we got a Disney
one of us at home
it's great
should we all
play it
you can write one
for Jono and I
but I'm not
it's sick and twisted
like
this individual
I'll write one
for you
okay
thank you very much
Joel
okay
then we can both
play
should I continue this game?
Yes or no?
It's headbands.
Producer B, I was just laughing.
Okay.
This is funny.
I see why the breakfast TV shows are doing it.
Fill a contact in, mate.
Okay.
Oh, no, I don't want to.
No, I'm going to have a look.
Get out.
It's Prince Andrew.
It was Prince Andrew It was Prince Andrew
Joel's done one for me
I've done that one
Who's he done for me?
No
Alright enjoy the podcast
He had a good paper run back in the day
Enjoy the podcast
Alright here we go
Black Ferns set for a big public celebration
today, a big reception
in Wellington, the full squad of management
are going to be there at 12 o'clock on the grounds
of Parliament, you can go along if you're a fan
and you're in the area, which is awesome because they're in the middle
of their, thank you Aotearoa, victory
tour at the moment, so it's awesome heading around the country
Good on them, so good, are they going to get
presented with medals or anything?
I imagine they've already got the World Cup winning medals,
but maybe there's something else that the government's got.
A certificate of merit?
Yeah, maybe lower mortgage rates or something like that.
Maybe Cindy can whip something up on Microsoft Clipart or something.
They deserve it.
It's great to go.
They're going to some quite remote parts of New Zealand
because that's where some of the team are from.
Oh, it's awesome.
So it's really cool.
Yeah, good on them.
They're bloody, jeez, they're an inspiration.
I know.
One of the highlights of the year, jeez, they're an inspiration. I know, one of the highlights
of the year really,
aren't they?
Yeah, I'll tell you
one of the lowlights
of the year
is producer Joel
yesterday
tucking into a...
You're not in general.
Not in general.
No, no, no.
This is just what you're doing.
Now we talk about it.
We've talked many times
on the year
about how we call you
Hungry Hungry Harrison.
Your last name's Joel Harrison.
Well, your last name's Harrison
obviously.
And you eat anything.
Any food that comes across the radio station,
he'll be there.
He'll be like a seagull at the beach.
Promotional baked beans arrived yesterday.
They were laying on four pieces of toast within 10 minutes.
And yesterday, you air fried?
Air fried, yep.
A pizza that I bought on Friday.
Now, I bought a pizza from the supermarket
for something we needed to film,
so I bought a whole lot of props.
And I said to her,
Joe, after we finished filming it,
I was with the pizza,
I was like, hey, there's some pizza here.
Do you want it today for lunch?
And you said, oh no, I have it on Monday,
which was this Friday.
It was already room temperature pizza.
Hold on, no, I'll wait till Monday to have that.
So you have the stomach of a hardened sperm whale.
A guy could eat anything.
So you put it in the air fryer yesterday.
Yeah, I put it in the air fryer, came back and did a bit of work,
and I kind of went outside.
It smelled a little bit burnt.
It looked like it had survived a forest fire.
Yeah, it was charred good. But the a forest fire it looked yeah it was it was char
grilled but the thing is the air fryer it really cooked the top but the bottom was was perfect and
then the top was a little bit char grilled a little bit like if the police had to do an
identification process on the thing they'd have to go dental records wouldn't they on that definitely
yeah i put it on my instagram though and um 51 of my 51 of my friends sorry said that they would
eat it still but your friends are mantis, Joel.
Someone replied saying, is this Oreo chocolate chip?
But I was like, no, it's just a burnt pepperoni.
But it was good.
But I understand.
I think everyone's ridden through that period in life
where you're pushing the boundaries.
You're pushing the boundaries.
Of food.
You're in your flatting days.
I understand.
It's what happens.
Is there anything you wouldn't eat?
Is there anything you don't put into your stomach?
Eggplant
Just never
Never eggplant
Anything else
That's the line in the sand
I think yeah
Something weird about eggplant
I just can't hack
But besides that
I'll eat it
Well I mean the good thing
The way it was cooked
You probably eliminated
Any process of
You know
Contamination
Exactly
But also probably increased
Your chances of cancer or something.
Oh, yeah.
The Hits, the Jono and Ben podcast.
Great time of year, isn't it?
It is.
It's busy, though.
Jeez.
I know.
I know.
You want it to just chill.
I'm like, jeez.
And then someone else goes, can you do this before?
And you're like, what?
Anyway.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I hear you.
I hear you.
It's the time to button off, guys.
It's not. No button off, guys.
No one's got that memo.
No.
We should send out a group email to Aotearoa.
Button off time.
The button off period has begun.
But Ben Boyce, we're going to play Jono Pryor's guessing game.
Welcome back to it.
Where I just pilfer lists from the internet and then Ben has to, through a process of elimination,
figure out the order of the list.
Now, topically, I got
lost in a winter wonderland of
Christmas blockbuster sales figures.
So these are the
highest grossing Christmas
movies of all time. Of all time.
Okay. There's a lot of great
Christmas classics. I will give
you a clue.
Two franchises
have two movies each in the top five oh okay so i'll hand it over to you
you can't guess blindly come into this okay i haven't okay so home alone is one that sort of
pops into my head because it's got a couple of great movies kabang home alone is the original at number two.
Come on!
Kevin.
Yeah, 476 mil.
Oh, that's gross.
Which then means, Ben Boyce,
what, the Home Alone would be in there again, right?
Yeah, Home Alone.
Then he got lost in New York. Yeah.
You was here last night, too, wasn't you?
Yes, sir. You was here last night too, wasn't you? Yes, sir.
I was.
You was here
and you was smooching with my brother.
I'm afraid you're mistaken, sir.
Don't give me that.
You've been smooching with everybody.
That's one of Ben's favorite quotes.
You've been smooching with everybody.
That's $359 million.
So Home Alone 2 and 3
on the top five
highest grossing
Christmas movies.
Another franchise
in there.
Okay.
Well, the other one
that popped into my head,
well, there's two
that popped into my head.
One was Tim Allen's
Santa Claus.
And the Die Hard movies
if potentially,
if they're...
Die Hard's in the top 10
but not in the top five.
Right.
Have a think about Dr. Seuss.
Oh, The Grinch.
The Grinch is at number one, 520...
What are you laughing at?
Rugon.
520 million, The Grinch.
And also from the same franchise, The Grinch came back,
he stole the number one spot, then stole the number four spot
with The Grinch Stole Christmas.
How are you?
How are you?
How are you?
I asked you first.
I asked you first.
Oh, that's really mature,
saying exactly what I said.
345 mil, which...
Because there was a new Grinch movie recently,
wasn't there?
There was an animated one as well
with Benedict Cumberbatch and stuff, so yeah. Frightening. The Grinch is a frightening figure, isn't there? There was an animated one as well with Benedict Cumberbatch and stuff.
So, yeah.
Frightening.
The Grinch is a frightening figure, isn't he?
I was just looking at clips of him before.
Yeah.
And there's only one more slot in the top five.
I will say it's your favorite movie.
You watch it every year.
Oh, Elf.
Okay, people.
Tomorrow morning, 10 a.m., Santa's coming to town.
Santa!
Oh, my God!
Interesting backstory to that movie.
I know him.
I know him.
It was a bit of a failure at first, and then it just took off.
Yeah.
Well, yeah, I think everyone just loved watching it, you know,
probably back in the day on DVD and things like that,
but it really is a great movie to watch for Christmas.
Will Ferrell, Alf.
There you go.
Top five highest grossing Christmas movies.
That's John O'Prior reads a list from the internet.
Oh, that was lots of fun.
The Hits, the Jono and Ben podcast.
Football World Cup was on at the moment.
So they snuck that one in before Christmas, didn't they?
The Football World Cup.
Speaking of things not slowing down before Christmas,
let's have an international tournament in Qatar.
There's some crazy stuff going on there at the moment.
Oh, no.
With journalists dying. There was some crazy stuff going on there at the moment. With journalists dying.
There was a US reporter who
was pretty vocal about
gay rights. His brother is gay
and I think he was detained
and then a few days later just dropped
dead at the football stadium.
There's no foul play going on or anything
like that going on. Sounds like foul play.
Very, very sad. The top
four of the semi-ifinals this week,
France, Morocco, Argentina, Croatia.
A lot of upsets in the World Cup.
It's been the thing.
A lot of big teams like Brazil,
one of the favourites gone.
Portugal have gone as well.
So very hard to predict.
You're still running your illegal sweepstakes
here on the list as well?
Yeah, we are.
There's still four people involved
for $100 in the competition.
But I thought yesterday I would do, you know,
because they like to get animals to predict results.
We've seen it overseas, happened before.
So I thought, why not?
I'll get my dog.
Yesterday I went around to the park with my daughter and my dog,
and this is what happened when my dog was trying to predict the results.
So, Sienna, Football World Cup, who's your prediction?
What are the predictions?
Of the teams?
Okay, well see that's why I'm not asking you.
I've come to the park right now with you for a very scientific experiment.
It's been hard to predict who's going to win the Football World Cup.
So we've got four bowls, each has a country's name on the back.
We're going to put them up on the ground about 10 metres away from our dog Bo right there.
So he's going to see me, I was like I don't want to eat dog food.
You're not having to eat dog food.
And then Bo, whatever bowl you go to will be the winner of the Football World Cup.
Alright mate?
Doesn't say much, but he knows how to predict results.
Alright, let's go.
He's really good at it.
So the scene was set, that was me panting by the way too, I was very out of breath.
Yeah, you are quite panting.
If you've ever wondered what making love to being boys is like.
So this was it.
So I put the bowls in a random order.
I didn't even know where the bowls were allocated together.
Science.
This is science.
This is science.
And the dog went to two bowls.
And what he actually went to was actually possible.
Because obviously, the way this thing is structured, not all the teams can make the final.
But, you know, so he actually picked.
So we're not predicting the winner.
Winner was first, and then it was who's going to be the other finalist.
And it could actually happen.
Have a listen.
Okay, Bo.
The biscuits are there. I'm going to go stand by
the bowl. Sienna, you let him go. Okay, okay. You ready? You ready? You ready Bo?
You ready? Okay, ready to go. Let him go. Let him go. He's going. going he's going he's going towards my leg he's going to a bowl okay whose ball is it it is oh it's france france france are the winners of the world cup
oh who's france gonna be playing oh okay we're gonna go finalists okay next ball we'll wait
for him to finish oh he's gone to this one it is oh croatia fr-Croatia final.
Winner is France.
Prediction, Pet.
Great prediction.
Anything you want to say to your fans?
He's eating right now.
Okay, we'll let him be.
There we go.
Back to you in the studio.
France-Croatia final.
We're France winning, and it's feasible.
It could happen.
I mean, Producer Joel, you know a lot more about football than we do.
Yeah, it definitely could happen.
It was also the replay of the 2018 World Cup as well.
And France won that one.
And the Croatians were very disappointed.
Technically, any team could happen.
Anything could happen.
All the teams are in the running, aren't they?
Well, no.
But obviously, the way that...
Well, at the start of the tournament, they are.
But obviously, France can't play.
They've got Morocco.
So Morocco.
He could have gone to France and then Morocco's bowl.
And it would have been like, mate, that's the semi.
It can't happen.
So he actually went to what feasibly could be the final.
So the whole time this is going on, this is in a public place.
Who's watching you?
Who's watching on as you're conducting this experiment with a dog?
There's a few people around.
They're both like, what are all these guys up to?
Oh, has it come to that, has it?
Yeah, that was a little bit like that.
Who was filming it?
Like, I said it was me, my daughter and I.
You were all up, you filmed me, I got the dog.
I had a tie on, a little microphone on.
There was a few people walking past like, what is this person doing?
Give this guy a TV show or some sort of outlet or something.
Did we call the authorities on this guy? TV show or some sort of outlet or something.
Do we call the authorities on this guy?
Anyway, well, that's what, yeah.
There was a guy in a trench coat at the park.
No one was even paying attention to him.
You were the one they were worried about.
All right, before 7 o'clock,
let's just remember where you heard it first, all right?
If France does make cries, you're in the final.
It'll be a great moment if it comes through.
It could be. The Hits it comes through. It could be.
The hits.
The Jono and Ben podcast.
Spilling the tea on Hollywood's A-listers.
Kardashians.
I have met every single one.
Exposing scandals.
Because she's not a good person, but either is he.
Digging the dirt.
Is she a diva?
Yes.
And finding out what's going on behind the scenes.
Yelling at cast members.
Yes.
It was a script.
No.
His identity is a secret. But his stories have been proven right time and time again this is empty ah throughout
the year he's been there for the slops the slaps the breakups and the breakdowns empty you're in
from hollywood how's it going my friend it is going great you guys you know this is our last
one before christmas for you guys so you know merry Christmas, and I hope you guys have an amazing New Year too.
Now, because this is over here.
This is our, like, the country shuts down.
The country shuts down for at least, you know, four weeks or so.
What happens in America?
Is it like a long, big holiday, or what's going on?
You know, it's different.
I think that it does close down, say, if Christmas is during the middle of the week, because obviously schools close.
There's not a lot of work that gets done the final two weeks of the year.
So you might as well kind of shut things down.
However, our country is so commercially cultured that it feels like nobody really takes any time off. You were saying too, just before we're talking,
generally most employees get two weeks annual leave.
Yeah, and you're made to feel guilty if you're for taking them.
So, you know, there's companies, obviously the government,
you know, you can get four weeks.
And a lot of companies will say, oh, yes, we'll give you four weeks,
but they don't really.
It's always been very, very difficult to take vacation that's really
interesting because over here for yeah i think the standard is four weeks minimum annual leave for
most employees yeah and it's like that you know obviously in canada and stuff and you know um
there's uh somebody who's you know maternity leave obviously you can take a year and in the
u.s you're lucky if you get six weeks, and you're lucky if it's paid. Really?
Jeez, you're really working hard over there, mate.
Maybe we're a lazy country.
Maybe we are.
You're making me question our work ethic now.
Yeah.
Now, Ante, a lot of the world talking about Megan and Harry,
the documentary on Netflix.
First three episodes dropped last week.
Another three coming up this week.
What's the word over in the U.S. about it?
Is it getting a lot of talk?
I mean, I think it's getting enough talk.
I think it's pretty sad that whenever I looked at it over the weekend,
it was never breaking number one.
Like Wednesday was still number one, number one, number one.
And I don't know if they released that in New Zealand yet or not.
But that's the Tim Burton, like, Addams Family kind of thing.
Oh, Wednesday.
You mean the show Wednesday, I was thinking,
Oh, well the day Wednesday, but you're right. That's the Adam's family spinoff.
It's very good. I watched it with my kids. It's really cool.
Yeah. So that they have not been able to, you know,
dethrone Wednesday from that number one thing at all,
which means that to me,
it's not as many people watching it as they probably anticipated.
I don't think it's going to change anybody's mind.
Now that being said, the people who are pro-Meghan and Harry,
they seem to have loved it.
The people who are anti, they are their ways.
I have actually talked to a couple of people, but both ways.
Like, oh, you know, I was a big fan, and then I watched,
and then I was watching Meghan cry, and she didn't have any tears.
So I don't like anybody who fakes cries like that.
But then on the other side, there are people like,
I really went into it, I didn't think, and then I watched it
and I could feel from their perspective what it was like.
But no matter who I've talked to, they are like,
I thought that they came here because they wanted privacy.
So if they want privacy, why are they having, you know,
basically a six-part documentary about their lives?
That seems to be the common theme.
And regardless of, you know, how they have been treated,
which has obviously been challenging in parts for both of them,
and there's two sides to every story, obviously,
but the big overarching thing is they demanded privacy
and they've come out with this doco.
Now, I fell asleep, Andy, in the first 10 minutes,
which Ben keeps harassing me for.
Well, he makes them, like, it's fine,
but he keeps making really opinionated comments
on it, I'm like you've seen 10 minutes of it
They lost me when they started talking about the background
of the, yeah no, just they lost me
early on, but are there bombshells expected
to come, because there's another three episodes being
released right? I haven't seen
a bombshell yet
the only bombshell that I've been interested
in is the one that, the woman
that introduced Harry and Meghan together is the one that's been ghosted.
There's more questions for me after watching some of it.
And honestly, I'm not going to watch it, all you guys.
So I don't blame you for falling asleep.
I think that the people who really want to watch it will sit down and watch it and will enjoy it.
And the people who want to hate watch it will hate watch it. And then there will be people like me
who I just, I've got better things to do
with my six hours of viewing time
than watching that.
You've just summed it up beautifully.
You're like, the people who love them
will still love them.
The people who hate them will still hate them.
And the middle is like you and me,
NT, we'll just get on with our lives.
Exactly.
That's NT Live from Hollywood.
He's going to be wrapping up the year for us before Friday as well.
But actually, speaking of wrapping up the year,
we want to know after 7 o'clock, what's been your highlight of 2022?
I don't think Jono and I have actually got any highlights, have we?
If we do, we'll replay them, mate.
Is that what we do?
We'll drag ourselves to the finish line.
You can win big after 7 o'clock with your highlight.
There won't be many replays, guys.
The Hits, the Jono and Ben podcast.
I want to know, I know one of the bone of contentions
in our professional marriage, Ben Boyce,
is when we are travelling around the traps,
traipsing around this country,
and I need to use the lavatory and I go into a petrol station,
use the facilities, walk out without purchasing an item.
Yes.
Now, this was fed to me on the internet
i don't know whether google's been listening to our conversations but it was you know 25 things
that are legal but should be illegal right and i was like oh god how many of these am i doing
number one on the list Using facilities Without paying
For an item
Inside the shop
Yeah
Not even a guilt purchase
From you
Not even like
A packet of chewing gum
Or anything like that
I mean what's the alternative though
Go on the forecourt
No
The alternative
I've given you the alternative
It's just to buy something
That's all
It doesn't have to be
Like an exchange
But now
Are we in a stage of life
Where we have to pay to pee
Well yeah
Because it's not
Someone's got to clean that It, because it's not public there.
Someone's got to clean that.
It works there.
It's not put on by the council, you know,
or your rates aren't paying for that.
It's someone, you know.
If there's someone coming off the street here and uses the work toilet,
you'd be like, oh, okay, mate, help yourself.
Or yours all at home.
Someone just walks off the street.
You're like, oh, mate, I've just missed you.
I've got an open toilet policy.
Three people used it yesterday.
Okay, all right. but there's some other stuff
that came through as well
which I'm sure
many people listening
will do the same
having something in your pocket
while in a store
that also sells
the same thing
I had that
hey no one else
has had that
have they
you've had that
yeah
reading
most of a book
or a magazine
in a shop and putting it back on the shelf it's a staple or a magazine in a shop
and putting it back on the shelf.
It's a staple for many people in the supermarkets, right?
At the counter.
Yeah, catch up on the old woman's weekly
and the new weekly, don't you?
Here's another one.
Taking many napkins from a cafe and restaurant.
Have you done that?
Yeah, I've taken, yeah.
But I'm never without buying anything, but you're right.
But you do take, you feel like they're free rate.
Yeah.
Feel like you can take the whole container load.
Yeah, you're right.
But you always use them as tissues and it's like rubbing, it's like blowing your nose
like with sandpaper or something, isn't it?
And here's the final one, which I thought was interesting.
Opening a drink inside a supermarket while still doing your shopping, but then paying
for it.
Oh, yeah, it does feel that, it feels a little bit naughty, little bit naughty geez you respect someone who's wandering around munching on an apple in
the supermarket don't you or having like a bag of chips you're like damn you're a gangster are you
gonna pay for that yeah yeah of course i am yeah but still that's but how many people would just
sort of put it into you know scrub it up because then i guess you're like well they're wandering
around with the confidence of they're going to go
obviously pay for this item
and that was what
they're banking on
they just slide it into the
yeah well hopefully not
you know where there's
a lot of room for
winning on the
consumer side of things
the old pick and mix
gee was you going to
you can really have
a couple of wins
on the pick and mix
can't you
I'm not suggesting you do
I'm just saying it's there
there's a lot of trust
placed in us
oh yeah the supermarket's placing a lot of trust placed in us. Oh yeah, the supermarket's
placing a lot of trust on people. Even the self-service
check-in. Yeah, you're right. When that first
started, jeez, the stuff I was skating
through.
The Hits, the Jono and Ben podcast.
It is fast approaching Christmas, the end of the
year, and we're liking looking back
at the year that was 2022.
As we all puff and wheeze our way to the finish
line. How are your hamstrings looking there, Ben?
Yeah, they're all good.
They're good.
Stretch.
They're stretched.
Ready to go.
Limbed up.
Ready to go.
Now, just look back at some of the stuff this year.
You remember the worst thing you could do in March was take your mask off at the supermarket
and tell everyone you weren't vaccinated.
Was that March?
Yeah, no.
We've forgotten about that stuff now, haven't we?
Yeah.
We really got swept up in the calamity
Of mask theory didn't we?
We got quite judgy as a nation
And gnarky
Very gnarky as well
People going you're not
You're not in a whole range of different roles
Were we picnicking at the start of the year?
How hardcore was the vaccination thing though?
People lost their jobs.
Yeah.
Also, I think some companies used it as an excuse to cut some dead weight.
It was all about, I guess the general thing was about protecting
whether you believed in it or not, but protecting the nation.
Yeah, that's right.
That was the core.
And being kind.
Yeah, we're kind.
That was the other core issue, wasn't it?
Was everyone kind?
I don't know.
We were kind-ish.
We bullied a lot of people, that poor DJ from the UK that came over.
I think we started out kind and then our kindness kind of faded away, didn't it?
But we want to know your highlights of 2022.
0800, that hits 4487, is the text number if you'd like to get in touch with us.
Personal highlights of things this year.
Why was it a good year in any way, shape or form?
No lowlights, though.
Oh, my marriages and tatters and my pay.
They're coming to move all their stuff out this weekend.
No one wants to hear that on the radio.
Well, I'm very sad for someone if that's the case.
Yeah, we're sad, but don't put it on the radio, mate.
It'll bring the vibes down.
Ben, highlight for you.
Oh, jeez.
Off the top of my head
I tell you what
it was
catching up with
a mate
Dwayne the Rock Johnson
like that was pretty cool
that was a pretty cool
surreal experience
the fact we got to interview him
he remembered who we are
he saw my behind
and I've got it tattooed
that was pretty cool
and we don't do a lot of TV stuff
these days
so for me that was a big deal

Wrapping it up, wrapping up 22.
Yeah, uh, it's through.
That is our song, Wrapping Up 2022,
with some of the highlights from the year.
But we want to know on 0800, the hits, 4487,
what were your highlights of 2022?
And we may hook you up with a prize.
Add another highlight for you.
The Hits,
the Jono and Ben podcast.
Now,
your highlights of 2022.
That's what we want.
Someone's texting saying,
hey,
I haven't had a parking ticket in over a month.
Oh, nice.
That's a great highlight.
Yeah,
we,
as a victim of,
you know,
many attacks from the parking
wardens, I can sympathise with that.
Well done to Sarah who just
started a new job two weeks ago.
That's her highlight. Let's kick it off with you,
Mel. You're on the air.
What was the big highlight for you?
You're walking away from this year remembering
what, Mel?
I gave a kidney away to my dad
in the middle of this year, so that was a biggie.
Oh jeez that's a hell of a present. Oh well he's given me a lot so it was pretty special
to be able to do that but it was pretty cool. What a wonderful thing you did and it all
worked out well. It went really really well well, yeah. It's been pretty life-changing for mum and dad
because it means he's not stuck on a dialysis machine anymore.
So, yeah, it's been amazing.
What a generous thing to do.
Would you give me any of your organs, Ben?
Would I?
Yeah.
Would I?
Liver?
Would you give me a liver?
I need a liver transplant.
Yeah.
Am I getting a liver. Yeah, all right.
Yeah, okay.
Thank you.
Mel, can I have your liver as well?
I might run through Ben's too.
Oh, man, think about it.
I don't know you.
It's like when you get a new phone,
you're like, I'm going to look after this all the time.
And then three hours later,
you're like throwing it on the floor or whatever.
Good on you, Mel.
You have a great day.
Yeah, you too.
See you later.
I always had that conversation with my dad who had a triple bypass surgery
because he had a heart attack.
And I'm like, why are you eating healthy now?
You can start again.
You've got new pipes, baby.
Reset, reset.
You've got new pipes to clog up.
Let's get Louise on from Christchurch.
Your highlight from 22, Louise.
Hi, guys.
Yeah, mine's probably just one.
It's all about my family, really. My
son graduated uni
and my daughter was one of the main
parts in a production at school.
And then my other son's just doing really
well in life in general.
So, yeah, just sort of, you know,
happy that they're all doing
really good. Oh, proud mama.
That's nice. Very proud mama.
The end of year newsletter that those families send out.
You've just done it in audio form.
Yeah.
We'll record this, send it to you.
You can email it off to your whole family, all right, Louise?
Absolutely.
Hey, good on you.
Have a good one.
We'll get Rob on from Te Awamutu.
Your highlight from 22, Robbo.
Yeah, g'day, mate.
New job in February, truck driver, truck controller.
Oh, nice. New job. That, truck driver, truck controller. Oh, nice.
New job.
That's awesome.
New truck too, Rob?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
It's not very new, but it's newer than what I've used to drive.
And that's your highlight.
Then also there's a message here saying the low light is you've currently got a flat tyre
and you're stuck on the side of the road.
Oh, no.
Yeah.
Yeah, the tyres just arrived, so we'll get the repairs as we speak.
Oh, good on you, Rob.
Highs and lows for Rob.
Have a great day.
Good luck changing that tyre, Rob.
Chloe, you're on, 22.
What are you remembering it for, Chloe?
Well, at the end of last year, I graduated from university,
and we were supposed to have our graduation, but it was cancelled.
They then tried again in April.
It was cancelled again, and in September, we finally got to graduate.
Congratulations.
Oh, well done.
Congratulations.
Graduating.
What do you do?
I'm a primary school teacher.
Oh, that's very cool.
We need more of you out there.
Yeah.
Yes.
All right.
Are you enjoying it or are you regretting it?
Loving it.
Oh, good on you.
I'm glad.
After all that, you enjoy it.
Ben's teacher does primary teaching?
Ben's teacher. Ben's teacher does primary teaching? Ben's teacher.
Ben's teacher.
Ben's wife?
My teacher does do primary teaching.
She might teach you the ABCs as well.
Yeah, my wife is a teacher as well.
Yeah, they work really hard, the teachers.
They do.
Yes, they do.
Good on you, Chloe.
Have a great one.
And we'll knock it off with Meza.
Our old mate Meza from Pawanui.
What's your highlight, Meza?
Hi, Jono.
Hi, Ben. My highlight is in the middlez? Hi, Jono. Hi, Ben.
My highlight is in the middle of the year,
it was very sad actually, first,
my godmother died,
but she never had any children,
so she had two godchildren,
and I was one of them,
and she left me some inheritance,
which I was able to buy my husband a jet ski.
Oh, so you bought a jet ski.
So your godmother passed away, she gave you some money,
and you bought a jet ski, you giant bogan.
Yeah, but I get to go on the jet ski.
I don't like driving it because I'm not, you know.
But he takes me on it.
And we wouldn't have been so far living in Pavanier
if I hadn't had that money.
Well, there you go.
And your godmother will be looking down going,
thank God I got the Majewski.
That's so awesome.
She'd love it.
She'd love it.
She'd enjoy life.
Oh, that's so cool.
The other thing I must ask, is it your last week, this week?
Yes.
Yeah.
No, I hate it when you guys go off air.
It's horrible.
We'll just keep working on through, eh?
Yeah, all right.
Let's do that for you.
We'll call our families and say, sorry, Mazza needs us on.
We're ploughing on through December, Jan.
Oh, Mazza, you have a great Christmas.
Thank you so much for listening.
Thank you very much, guys.
You too.
We could be hooking someone up
with a $500 challenge gift card.
If you want to say thank you very much
for something they've done this year,
it is the hits.
You've got Jono and Ben.
The hits.
The Jono and Ben podcast.
People like looking back at their people of the year
when it comes to 2022.
And we thought we'd look at someone
that impressed us locally.
Now, remember the Winter Olympics were on
in Zoe Sadowski's Senate.
She won a gold medal for New Zealand
and her dad was live on the news
and it was an amazing moment.
She was f***ing crazy.
She just went off the roof.
I'm pretty
excited, to be honest. The beeps weren't there
live on the news, were they?
I always thought the reporter
obviously was there, and
I always thought the reporter took a little gamble with
that interview. Oh, yeah.
Proud dad, though. Proud dad. Proud dad.
Proud dad. Celebrating, and
he's one of our legends of
2022, Sean Sinnott.
Yeah, I wouldn't say that.
Well, you were to us.
I mean, it was such an iconic moment of the year.
Yeah, well, I'm kind of waiting to hear from the Halberks
to see if they've got me down for the best sporting moment.
Yeah, best post-match speech.
How has life changed since that iconic interview, Sean?
Well, I've probably got every reporter in the country referring to me by my first name.
And yeah, I had a couple of drinks with Jeremy Wells and Monica a few months ago. That was
a bit of a highlight.
Couldn't say no to that.
Was it off the f***ing roof, mate?
I can tell you right now, I spoke to the owner of the bar and apparently there wasn't a glass
left intact. Oh, mate. Now,
Sean, take us back to that
moment, the post-match
commentary. What were you wanting to say
compared to what came out? Well, actually,
what came out was probably what I did
want to say. We were
pretty excited, no doubt, and
it was momentous
in all sorts of ways. First of all,
Zoe, she achieved what she set out to achieve
in terms of the slopestyle event.
And there was a lot of expectation on her shoulders
from around the country.
And we sort of had the approach of just go have fun.
Of course, we had all our toes and fingers crossed.
But she pulled it off.
Yeah, we were ecstatic over the moon.
There was a huge sense of relief and just, you know, enjoyed that moment.
Oh, I can imagine, you know.
Probably for the last six months we've been enjoying that moment.
Yeah, well, yeah, John and I, you know, we're parents, but, you know, like,
and, you know, I mean, we must be just so proud to see your child achieving
her dreams on a world stage.
I mean, it must be an incredible moment.
Yeah, it was.
It was absolutely fantastic.
And, you know, we've enjoyed some moments since as well.
You know, a big moment for me also during the year
was really seeing Zoe in a movie, Fleeting Time,
her first sort of movie with Ed Ferguson movie.
Yeah, watching her in the backcountry two years ago
when it was filmed, getting caught up in an avalanche and
seeing her just right out of it was pretty astounding oh she what she rode an avalanche
yeah she rode out of an avalanche wow like uh obviously you don't want to get caught inside
the avalanche so riding out of it's the ideal situation but did she know there was going to
be an avalanche was it on purpose i don No, no, no. I don't think they had predicted that one.
Wow.
How far behind her was the avalanche?
She was in it.
She was in it? She is.
Jeez.
Well, because, yeah, like, I mean, again, as a parent, you know,
your kids go out there and you're like, oh, don't do that.
You might hurt them.
But, you know, your daughter's doing just a lot.
She's riding avalanches, mate.
Yeah.
She's sailing in the air and pulling off tricks.
Do you get worried?
Or is that just, you know, part of what the sport is all about?
It's part of what the sport is all about, but there's risk mitigation.
She's with a good crew with lots of training and experience in that backcountry area.
And she's just completed a risk mitigation avalanche course
in Nelson, BC in the last couple of weeks.
So, you know, the level of confidence around her ability to know what to do
in the future is there.
Well, Tess, once you've been trapped inside one avalanche,
you definitely want to go and do an avalanche course, wouldn't you?
Yeah.
Well, congratulations on the year for your family, Sean.
Some remarkable achievements from Zoe and I'm sure other family members as well.
Who else has done well in the family?
Riley's done incredibly well.
She's just got a promotion at her job in media.
Are we off the roof about that?
Are we excited about that?
Good.
Okay, good.
Absolutely.
Okay, good.
Riley's promotion.
And Dylan's finally left home and coached snowboarding in Aspen. Oh, good. Riley's the promotion. Yeah. And Dylan's finally left home and coached snowboarding in Aspen.
Oh, wow.
He'll be there at the X Games supporting his sister, I'm sure.
Awesome.
And what's happened in Sean's life?
What's been your achievement?
My achievement this year?
Oh, gosh, that's a good question.
I don't think I've actually had any.
Well, I'll tell you what.
Just before the finish line of the year,
you've won Jono and Ben's One of Our Legends of 2022.
That's an achievement.
Thank you.
The Hits, the Jono and Ben podcast.
Big celebration today for the Black Ferns.
It was going to be awesome at 12 o'clock in Parliament.
So congratulations to them.
They'll mean a lot coming from me, but it's awesome to see them.
There'll probably be more coming from the Prime Minister. me, but it's awesome to see them. There'll probably be more coming from the Prime Minister.
Yeah, but it is awesome
to see them getting rewarded
for what was an amazing part
of 2022.
And you said the nationwide tour
has been going to all sorts
of nooks and crannies
of this country.
It was great.
Sort of places we'd go around
touring when we were...
Like eating sausages
and stuff like that,
but they're going
for good reason too.
Jono and Benz,
thank you very much
with Challenge.
Yes, we want to hook someone up with a $500 Challenge for good reason too. Jono and Ben's Thank You Very Much with Challenge.
Yes, we want to hook someone up with a $500 Challenge service station gift card
to say, you know,
someone that you want to say thank you very much
for what they've done this year.
What would you say thank you very much to me for?
Oh, you've been here, you've been a great part,
you've brought me a lot of laughs.
In all seriousness, I do.
You crack me up every day.
Oh yeah, I would say...
Sometimes I laugh at you, you know every day oh yeah I would say sometimes I laugh
at you
but other times
I laugh
it's a hard
one to know
if he's laughing
with me
or bullying me
but that's the
basic relation
you give me a lot
of laughs
every morning
and I appreciate it
I would say
thank you for
your sanitisation
you're welcome
good hand sanitiser
you wouldn't get
a more sanitised show
you're welcome
he's doing some
good hand sanitising and genuinely easy to wouldn't get a more sanitised show. He's doing some good hand sanitising.
And genuinely, easy to work with, Ben Boise.
Easy coming to work at this time of the year.
You reflect with people that you enjoy working with and hanging out with.
And we're very lucky.
We are lucky, you're right.
But we're not going to say thank you to each other through the means of petroleum.
Am I getting a voucher?
You get your unleaded dreams out of here, buddy.
But yes, challenge.
If you'd like to nominate someone, 4487.
Some wonderful, geez, some people have done some good stuff this year.
But Amanda has nominated her sister, who we're going to go through to right now.
Cherie, yeah.
Hello, Cherie speaking.
Hello, Cherie speaking.
It's John O and Ben calling from the Hits radio station.
Good morning.
Good morning.
You'd know Amanda?
Yes.
Yeah.
Through genealogy.
Yeah.
She is connected to you.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Well, she has nominated you this year.
We're doing something this week.
It's called Thank You Very Much, where we're giving people a $500 challenge gift card so
they can spend it on fuel over the holidays.
And she's nominated you. Isn't she
awesome? Now you're a nurse
and you're
not probably going to say this about yourself
so I'm going to take liberty here.
You continually work. You try not
to take days off because it affects your clients
and the people you support.
You work through COVID to help all the vulnerable
people and you would never say that publicly and the people you support. You work through COVID to help all the vulnerable people,
and you would never say that publicly.
So that's why I'm having to do it for you, Cherie.
You're very humble and kind, and you do a lot of great work.
Good on you guys.
Well, good on you.
It's not about us.
We've done nothing. No, make it about us, actually.
You're speaking for all nurses in New Zealand.
Well, I guess what you're doing is part of the job,
but everyone really appreciates what you do. Oh, well, I guess what you're doing is part of the job.
But, yeah, everyone really appreciates what you do.
Oh, this is amazing.
Where was the last day you had off?
Oh, I can't remember.
Really?
Well, I'd actually had days off, but it was a sad occasion.
Oh, well, listen, you're a machine. Are you getting time off over Christmas, Cherie?
Yeah, I've got an extra week off. Oh,
nice. I'm pleased. Lazy.
Lazy. I've got to go to the Christmas shop
and I've got to fit that in somewhere. A whole week.
I know, good on you. And
enjoy the $500 from Challenge
Service Stations as well.
Oh, thank you so much.
Have a great Christmas. God, I thank my much. Hey, nice. Have a great Christmas.
Got to thank my sister.
Hey, well, that's lovely what she did.
But even more lovely what you've been doing for New Zealand.
So thank you very much.
Hey, thank you, guys.
If you want to nominate someone, you can text FUEL to 4487, and we could be saying thank you very much tomorrow.
Thanks to Challenge.
Proud to put the service back into service station.
The Hits, the service back into service station.
It is our game of word association and one of your final chances
to get in and
win some money on our 100 of the Hits
if you want to play a really simple game.
It's just the first thing that pops into your head,
but you need to match up with one of us.
Every day you say it's a simple game,
but it's a tough game to match the words.
Pip, you're on from Tauranga.
How are you, Pip?
Hi, good, thanks. How are you?
You're doing well.
Now, you're a case manager for the homeless in Tauranga.
I am. I sure am.
Difficult time of year?
Yeah, it definitely is, but everyone deserves a home. They do. I am. I sure am. Difficult time of year? Yeah, it definitely is.
But everyone deserves a home.
They do.
That's what I work for.
Oh, good on you.
Anything that the people can do to help in Tauranga?
Oh, just be understanding.
Yeah, everyone's got a story behind them,
so it's just about being understanding.
Oh, good on you, Pip.
You're doing great work.
And hopefully we can reward you with some prize money.
Now, five grand,
that's the end goal,
but what would you be happy with
if you walked away?
Oh, I want to try and go for
five grand, really,
to be honest.
Well, I understand you want
to take the family
to the Pacific Islands
for a holiday.
Yeah, yeah.
Well, I've been trying
to enter this for
ever since it started
and I've never been able
to get through,
so I'm quite keen to just give it my all.
All right, let's see how much you can sap out of the Hits Bank account.
Who do you want to try and match words with this morning?
Pippo?
Jono, please.
All right, he'll head into the soundproof booth.
Pip?
Jeez, I really screwed that up there, didn't I?
And we'll get into it.
The good thing is we're not asking for words from my mouth.
Here we go.
Your first word this morning is amusement.
Amusement.
Park.
Amusement park.
Exactly what I was thinking.
Spa is word number two.
Spa.
Spa.
Pool.
Spa.
Pool.
Jam is word number three.
Jam.
Strawberry. Strawberry. Jam? Strawberry.
Strawberry.
Good jam there, strawberry.
Motorcycle is word four.
Motorcycle?
Helmet.
Helmet.
And mood.
M-O-O-D.
Mood. Swing. M-O-O-D. Mood.
Swing.
Mood, swing.
Ah, no, that's again exactly what I thought,
but it doesn't matter what I thought,
it matters what you thought and what Jono thought.
We'll get him out of the soundproof booth
and see how well we go matching up these words.
Ruthlessly quick game there, Pip.
You feel confident?
No.
Oh, no.
But I'll give it a go.
Yeah, good on you. Ben likes a quick game. I do. He likes things to move along here. Yeah, I know. Well, let's confident? No. I'll give it a go. Yeah, good on you.
Ben likes a quick game.
I do.
He likes things to move along here.
Yeah, I know.
Well, let's get into it.
Word one, $25.
If I say to you amusement, what do you say back to me, Jono?
Park.
Yeah, $25, Pip.
Do you want to go to the next word for $50?
Yeah, we'll keep going.
Okay.
Keep going.
Word two, $50.
Spa. Pool. Pool. Word two, $50. Spa.
Pool.
Well done.
Pippo.
Yeah, $50.
Yep, keep going.
Keep going.
Word three, $100.
Jam.
J-A-M, jam.
Traffic jam.
Oh!
I see why you thought that,
but we were going along the more condiment, you know?
Oh, like strawberry or raspberry?
Yeah, strawberry's exactly what Pip said.
Strawberry jam.
It's a good jam.
Yeah.
My favourite out of all the jams.
Strawberry.
I'm probably not the favourite out of all the radio announcers.
Sorry, Pip.
I'm so sorry, Pip.
That's all right.
Let's see how you would have gone on the final two words.
Motorcycle.
Race.
Helmet. And mood. Swcycle. Race. Helmet.
And mood.
Swing.
Not bad.
Not a bad attempt, Pip.
You have to ring back and try again.
Yep, absolutely.
Thank you for giving me the time.
Merry Christmas, Pip.
And you keep up all the good work you're doing in Tauranga there.
All good.
Thank you.
Merry Christmas to you guys.
Merry Christmas to you too.
The Hits, the Jono and Ben podcast.
Getting to the end of the year and a lot of things going on,
particularly schools wrapping up.
Yesterday was actually the last week of my daughter Indy,
her last year in primary school.
So we went along yesterday.
They had a little graduation.
Oh, love it.
Yeah, love the graduation.
So you do get a mix.
I want to know what sort of parent you were because I find when you go to those assemblies and stuff
there's a range of parents
you've got the one who turns up in the active wear
from the gymnasium
you've got the other one
the sort of stressed out office worker
who's also like secretly clearing emails
at the same time not fully concentrating
yeah there's a lot going on in those situations
what parent are you?
what do you slide in?
oh look I wasn't wearing active wear
and I was sometimes clearing active wear And I was
Sometimes clearing email
No no
I was trying to concentrate
And be present in the moment
Because it's pretty awesome actually
And
You know you've spoken a lot
About how long
Though
That's the only thing
The downside
The assemblies
Can last a long time
Yeah
In this situation
I thought why don't you do shifts
Like you could come in
For your five minutes
With the indies
Getting an award
Or performing
Your high intensity Lot of clapping Applauding And you're out Next parents Why don't you do shifts? Like you could come in for your five minutes with Indy's getting an award or performing.
You're high intensity, a lot of clapping, applauding.
Then you're out.
Next parents, next group come in.
Because you had a three-hour one the other day.
And I was like, I had that hanging over my head.
Oh, Jono did a three-hour one.
He did a three-hour one.
We came in there and Indy got an award.
Straight away, they were like, the house captains get an award for what they've done for the school this year.
So Indy got an award.
And then they were like, now we'll give an award to everyone that's graduating.
And then her name being alphabetical in her class first up, I'm like, I could be done.
I could leave now.
Three minutes in, that was my opportunity.
Like, I'd seen her.
Did they explain the exit scenarios? No, it wasn't really.
In the event of your child winning an award early on,
you may exit through the left?
Yeah, so that was awesome.
And actually, I got a wee bit emotional
because at the end, the whole school,
everyone that was graduating sang 666's Pippa as well
and they had a photo montage as well.
It was really lovely.
Yeah, so it was lovely having them there and the kids singing,
and it was like the montage going on.
I was like, oh, it's beautiful.
I now know what parent you were.
You were the pesty recording the parent,
recording parent for the radio show.
Well, you were the other day.
You came back with a lovely, you know, harker from school, so I was like
yeah we'll get a little bit of audio, but it was really emotional
to see you finish up primary school
you know as well, so yeah
but as I say, I was like I could have left
I could have had the opportunity, but no I was like no
dig it in, dig it in, dig it in
and it wasn't long and they did a wonderful thing too
where I thought was really good, as they said
they front footed it, they said we're going to come up in classes
and at the end,
we're going to applaud for the class.
Oh, the group applause at the end.
Yeah, that is shaving valuable minutes
off the school assembly.
I know.
So it was like maybe four or five classes
and at the end,
there were claps.
It wasn't too long,
but I did notice that
someone had to lead the way
at the end where they were like,
is that all the kids of the class?
I'd be the first confident person
to start the clap. Slow. Yeah, and they're like is that all the kids of the class would be the first confident person to start the class yeah they're like yes and everyone's joining it's
you know it's always that first person clapping situation you're like i think that's everyone i
think it's because i don't know we'll go and now applause it takes one confident person and and
that's not me either once it gains momentum though geez it really takes off doesn't it well you don't
want to be that person go like that they're like hang on there's three more kids to you know i noticed you notice that one thing too when you're in a room
with children en masse no matter if you get a group of children here australia overseas anywhere
all children en masse smell the same do you notice that this is like a complete group odor
individually they all smell different no maybe i should. Maybe I should stop going around smelling.
I don't know what you mean. I honestly don't know
what you mean. Well next time, smell.
Oh yeah, I've never
like a new baby smell, I know that
but no. And it's a lot of joy
isn't there when they get a certificate? Yeah
it's pretty awesome. It's like you when you get 30%
extra free hummus in your Lisa's
hummus container.
The Hits, the Jono and Ben
podcast.
Christmas, another 12 days away,
and we wanted to know on 0800 The Hits this morning,
who's coming for Christmas lunch?
Like, who's going to be at the Christmas table?
Now, we want the most exciting collection of people
because sometimes when families come together
from all walks of life, you know,
you get sort of your Trump supporter uncle there
or you sit there next to the Green voter as well.
It can be an interesting mix of personalities and beliefs.
Maybe you've got an ex-partner coming over with their new partner.
Well, that happens.
That happens quite often, right?
People have to sit politely through a lot of Christmas lunches.
That probably is a little awkward.
There's always a happy auntie.
Yeah.
I've got a happy auntie in my family.
She's wonderful.
So 0800 the Hits, maybe you've got a famous person in the family who's coming over.
If the Ardern's are listening or the Gayford's are listening, you can text in 4487.
But we actually had an early call.
Who is joining you around the Christmas table?
Kim's phoned up on 0800.
How are you?
Good, thank you.
How are you?
Oh, doing really well.
Do you know you sound a lot like Carrie Woodham on Newstalk ZB?
Oh, I'll take that.
I'll take that.
If you could just say good thank you again.
Good thank you.
It's bang on.
You listen to Kerry Watermore on Newstalk ZB, every call she goes, how are you Kerry?
Good thank you.
We'll play a little bit of that now, I'm sure we can find it.
Good morning Kerry, how are you?
Good thank you.
Good thank you.
Good thank you.
Yeah, good thank you.
Good thank you.
Great thank you.
Good thank you.
Good thanks.
Very well thank you. Good thank you. Good thank you. Good thank you. Good, thank you. Good, thanks. Very well, thank you. Good, thank you. Good, thank you.
Good, thank you.
Great, thanks.
Good, thank you.
Yeah, yeah.
You're a dead ringer.
Yeah, okay.
You're a dead ringer.
Anyway, now we've got that out of the way, the important stuff's out of the way.
Who's turning up at the Christmas table, Kim?
Well, all of my family, my brother, my sister, mum, dad, but then also my very best childhood friend who's like my family and her mum and stepdad, and she married an identical twin,
and her twin sister married the other twin.
Hold on.
So their identical twin sisters married identical twin brothers.
Oh, my goodness.
Did they?
Yeah.
Really crazy.
Can you tell them apart, like, at all, any of them?
I can tell the sisters apart just, but the brothers, no way.
Wow, I wonder if they ever get themselves, you know, mixed up.
Yeah, I reckon exactly the same, but yeah, twin sisters that married twin brothers.
That is, that is, now how did the relationship, so obviously one started dating another and then there was an introduction made
was there? Yeah, I think, I'm
assuming so, but
And that seems like a type of
story that producer Bee Humps would
find on Ladbible. Yeah
You know, twins marry another set
of twins. Twins, you're right. It's really
interesting, but yeah, I don't know the exact
history behind how
they all met and all
that sort of stuff that they've been in my life since I was about five so you know happens a lot
apparently I've just googled it it said the first question is can twins be married to other twins
well yes we've answered that question and it happens a lot I suppose there's probably a connection on some other level that's...
Yeah.
Yeah, well, yeah, yeah.
To connect to the...
Well, yeah.
Maybe.
But you probably got a connection with your own twins,
so you probably know, you know,
there's probably a sympathise with that.
What they like.
You know, there might be some sort of higher meaning to it, you know.
Who knows?
Or it could just be a unique story we play on the radio at 20 past 8.
Absolutely.
Not the time to get deep, mate.
No, pull out.
Too close to Christmas.
Too close.
We can't deal with this emotion.
Kim, you're going to have a great Christmas.
Thanks for listening.
Oh, thank you so much.
See you, mate.
The Hits, the Jono and Ben podcast.
The new trailer's dropped for Megan and Harry's doco on Netflix
The next three episodes on Thursday night
I wonder what would have happened to us
Had we not gone out when we did
Our security was being pulled
Everyone in the world knew where we were
I said we need to get out of here
To see this institutional gaslighting
I wasn't being thrown to the wolves
I was being fed to the wolves
They were actively
recruiting people to disseminate
disinformation. They were happy
to lie to protect my
brother. They were never willing to tell the
truth to protect us. Well there you go,
there's a whole collection of provocative soundbites.
See, the people that make those trailers
do a good job, don't they? They do a good job,
they just pluck out a couple of words here and
there. The movie trailer people are so good too, eh?
Sometimes you watch it and you're like, oh, it looks amazing.
And you watch the movie and you're like, oh, it's okay.
I'll tell you who's really good, producer Bee Humps.
Guess who we're talking to after these drop on Netflix?
Oh, yeah.
In a worldwide exclusive.
He's hustled out Piers Morgan.
We're going to have Thomas Markle Jr.
Yeah, yeah.
Awesome.
Friday morning after he watches the next three episodes,
the whole series of Harry and Meghan.
Does she go in on the Markles?
A little bit.
A little bit.
You know, the dad, obviously, they have had some, you know,
a frosty relationship at times, particularly around the wedding.
Yeah.
Well, Thomas Markle Jr.
We'll jump on the bandwagon, won't we?
Get his comments on the new episodes this week.
Now, Ben, I got given something yesterday,
and it's a classic Kiwi Christmas gift too,
the old Griffin's biscuit sampler box.
Oh, yeah.
Don't you love it?
Yeah.
The problem is once I start sampling the biscuits yeah i can't i can't stop sampling because you're like oh there's you know there's
the uh the cookie bear pink ones with the hundreds and thousands oh have a couple of those then you
get onto the toffee pops and then all of a sudden before you know it you've eaten 85 of the sampler
box i haven't had the sampler box for for many many years so that's what's in
them now are they the toffee pops yeah but then i always leave the shortbread i mean there's the
shortbread there's a blander and whiter than me yeah there's nothing nothing satisfies me about
right with a cup of tea but you're not really a cup of tea person no so i worked my way around
pretty much the entire sample box i like the pink wafer ones i don't know what they're called you
don't get the pink wafer with the white bits in the middle?
Oh, yeah.
Ooh, I mean, you're not a biscuit guy, are you? No, I'm not.
I'm not against biscuits.
I just, you know.
Yeah, you do.
And then you've got the thins, the Wheatons as well.
Oh, yeah.
And then you get to the end of the sample box and you hate yourself.
You're like, why did I just gorge on an entire sample box?
You had more than a sample, didn't you?
It is. And that's the name. It's like, hey, just have gorge on an entire sample? You had more than a sample, didn't you? It is.
And that's the name.
It's like, hey, just have a little sample.
Shut the lid.
Try a little bit of it.
Because it's got a lid, you know, the tin lid you can shut again.
Which is handy.
You can use it.
That was probably meant to do us all through Christmas.
That was meant to be the morning tea for the entire summer period.
I don't mind the cookie times.
The little, the little, tinsy little cookie times.
I've already mowed through those.
Oh yeah, because you, the other day,
you were very excited the cooking time person was here,
running out there in the office.
The whole bin's gone.
Yeah.
Already.
Yeah.
And they, what they do is they hook you in with samples now,
the cookie time people.
We did some research,
we did a John and Ben exclusive research into how much they're pulling in.
On average, 33 grand.
Some people can earn that much, can't they?
Well, good on them.
Yeah, good on them.
I mean, it's great.
It's a good hustle out there because you always wonder what they are getting.
And they've got a sample thing as well.
They're like, would you like to say we've got, you know,
eight different varieties of the cookie time there?
And I'm just sitting there pretending not to pig out,
but just wanting to have more.
I love that conversation.
People do it. We all do it. When you stand there and you talk to someone and you wanting to have more i love that conversation people do it like we all do it
when you stand there and you talk to someone you want to have more so you pretend you're like oh
this is yeah you'll have that conversation this one's a really good one oh you should try that
oh yeah no you're right you have that conversation in front of you a little pantomime a little two
person play in front of the person there's a like oh yeah i know what you're doing you're just staying
around to get more samples looking like you're going to buy more sometimes you don't yeah well if you're
heading over to my house
this summer
don't expect anything
from the sampler box
at least you're like
shortbread
I've got three of those left

The Jono and Ben Podcast
Jono and Ben's
Christmas event calendar
thanks to Frontier Touring
yeah Frontier Touring
you've given us
a double pass
there's some amazing
concerts next year
you've got Elton John Ed Sheeranan, Marlon Williams, Lorde as well.
So we open up a little window of our event calendar.
And at random, you get a double pass to one of the amazing gigs.
Thanks to Frontier Touring.
Jessie, she's on for Christchurch.
Welcome, Jessica.
Good morning. How are you guys?
We're doing well. Lovely to have you on.
You tell us something about yourself that we don't know, Jess.
What don't you know?
That's a really tricky question.
We didn't know you were from Christchurch until about a minute ago.
I'm from Christchurch.
We know that now.
Something spicy, what have you got?
I'm a preschool teacher.
That's good, that's good.
It wasn't spicy for you, was it, Jono?
But I enjoyed it.
I found that interesting.
Yeah, no, that was spicy.
We didn't know that about Jessica.
Yeah, yeah.
Wendy, because you're the preschool.
You plow on through, don't you?
You don't get...
Do you get holidays?
What's going on?
We just get a little break.
We get the in-between days off.
So that's something.
That's something.
All right.
Well, another thing.
I was talking about children en masse all smelling the same no matter where
you are.
All preschool places, when you walk into them, all smell the same.
It's probably not a very good smell.
To be honest, it's a mix of a range of aromas.
Anyway, Jessica, let's get you along to one of these events.
You need to pick a number between one and five.
I'll go for number three.
Oh, three.
Looking at number three, Producer Joel.
Okay, let's open window three for the event calendar.
Okay, here we go.
What is it?
Oh, it's Marlon Williams, who is incredible live.
He is amazing live.
If you go to Bradley Cooper
from A Star Is Born,
saw him live
and basically cast him
in A Star Is Born
with Lady Gaga.
So he's incredible.
Yeah, he's amazing.
Oh, awesome.
Thank you so much.
Christchurch boy as well.
Yeah, he is.
Yes, how good.
Do you want to far to travel?
Yeah.
You enjoy that.
Thanks so much
to Frontier Touring
for these amazing double passes
we're giving away all this week.
Just watching that wonderful video of Marlon's too.
Very thrusty with the pelvis, isn't he?
The whole video is just pumping that pelvis back and forth, isn't he?
I'd like you to do some pelvis work like that, Ben Boyce.
I can't do it, mate.
