Welcome, this is a John and Ben podcast brought to you by Horns Made With Mouth Noises and Challenge Petrol Service Stations.
Who can make the best noise with their mouth out of the three of us?
Producer Ben?
Producer Ben, I always wanted that producer credit.
Yeah.
Producer Ben's through there.
I don't know.
Can you beatbox?
Can you do anything?
No, I'm trying to think what I can do.
Can you make a siren?
Can you do a dog?
Can you...
No, we talked to that guy who could do a cricket noise, which was pretty interesting.
Well, he'd be handy right now, but I'm talking to us.
No, not really anything.
Not that I can think of.
What can you do?
I was going to give a siren a go.
Okay.
Oh, no.
Here we go.
Think of a Formula One car.
Yeah.
Think of a Formula One car, but it's driving past you.
Okay.
You ready?
That's good.
I was shutting my eyes so I didn't look at you.
And now the Formula One car's been chased by the cops because it's going too fast.
The siren.
That's all I can do it's not bad the Formula One car was pretty good I can do a cricket noise go he's got he's
got access to the sound effects but he made the little thing with his mouth to make it look like he was doing it
it's all off you're pretending to make it with your
mouth but we know yeah we are idiots but we're not that bad you went to uh fat boy slim last night
it was great to see the event still carry on right it was yeah i think um a lot of all the
acts were like massive shout out to the organizers and promoters for changing uh the venue because
it was supposed to be at the domainain in Auckland and it got rained off.
It was like a lake at the Domain.
People were literally kite surfing and paddle boarding there.
But yeah, within about one day, they had it changed to Spark Arena, which was pretty impressive.
Well, they'll love that massive shout out from Joel Harrison.
Now, you went along and you said you felt like you were the only person there just drinking
Red Bull.
And there was 12,000 people who'll be
waking up from needing jaw reconstructions this morning yeah yeah
for Sunday as well but it's a holiday in the York and it is a holiday yeah yeah
well wasn't a holiday for us as well I don't think I've ever had so you know
celebrated the Auckland anniversary we've worked every time this is fine
because you know that's what happens when you're broadcasting
right across the nation.
You know,
we don't take
Marlborough anniversary off,
do we?
No, I had the idea
that we went around
the country, remember?
And I was like,
we get every anniversary
and we do the show
from every region.
We go to Marlborough
on Marlborough anniversary.
The anniversary show.
But then I was like,
well, essentially,
you're turning up
at a place
where you are working
on a place
that everyone's on holiday
and probably don't want you there.
But there's a few,
but I think there's something in it.
Yeah, but now yeah
like you would turn up
and then you're like
oh we'll do shows from the cafes
but no one's going to turn up
because they're sleeping in
because it's their day off
I've got a good idea for you guys
maybe next time you do your contract negotiations
well I don't know how
I don't know how picky you want to be
but what if you negotiated
every single anniversary day
you get off as well
ooh
well that
I think they're going to give us 12 months off.
That'll be the next contract.
One long anniversary day.
What's been your favourite public holiday?
If you could pick one out of the entire calendar.
Like a specific day that I went, oh, that was it.
Or just in general, it rolls around and you're like, oh, I look forward to that.
Is it Anzac?
Is it Waitangi?
Is it Labour?
A lot of good meanings, you know, reasons why we, you know,
we honour those days that you just mentioned.
So they're pretty good.
But, you know, going into Christmas is always good.
That's always your – yeah.
I feel like that's a nice time, Christmas Day.
Jesus, Easter for you and I, John, are the two resident Catholics of the show.
Damn right.
He disappeared
and he came back
four days later baby
I reckon Easter
is actually a really good one
though because you get
four days off
and it's like the time
where it's starting to get cold
and it's a good one
It's like
we don't need
Auckland anniversary
and Waitangi
Feels like a bit of a joke
to have two in a row
Oh you're ready for like
Yeah
I know what you're saying
Now we played this game last year
see if you can do it again
Name all of the public holidays in order on the new zealand calendar now i'm just
going to google them so new year's day obviously yeah and then in order and then there's the day
after new year's day and then we would roll through well depending on the anniversaries
and stuff so we're going to know that because they're not public they're not fully i don't
because there's canterbury anniversary on the 23rd of jan stuff So we're going to ignore that Because they're not public They're not fully Because there's Canterbury anniversary
On the 23rd of January
Is that one or not?
No, that would be for the Canterbury region
Let's just say national public holidays
Whaitangi Day?
Congratulations
Okay
What are you doing next?
What are you doing after February?
Well, I feel like there's Anzac Day
Or is April 25th?
Anzac Day
But then Easter moves around each year
Yeah
So it depends on
So what would you like to lock in?
Easter.
Easter, well done.
Good Friday, 7th of April.
Easter Monday, 10th of April this year.
Then you're hitting on the 25th.
Anzac Day.
What are we doing after that?
Matariki.
Matariki, yeah.
Because there was always that talk
there was a long time between holidays.
King's birthday.
King's birthday.
Oh, yes.
Queen's birthday now.
King's birthday. King's birthday. That's yes, Queen's birthday now. King's birthday.
King's birthday.
That's 5th of June.
And then Matariki.
14th of July.
23rd of October.
What are we doing?
Is it Labor?
Labor weekend?
Well done.
And then we run.
Then we hit it.
It's like getting to the end, getting to the finish line, right?
Yeah, Boxing Day, Christmas Day.
Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and then that would be it.
We get some good public holidays.
What is that?
Two, four, six, eight, ten, eleven days off.
If you could make a new public holiday, what would it be?
Okay, I would say North Island anniversary and South Island anniversary.
Get two.
Get two.
We're both islands.
They appreciate the other island.
Oh, so you celebrate this sort of...
So the North would take off, but they're celebrating the south yeah because there's not enough love between
the two that's right i would make it on dwayne the rock johnson's birthday you know we have a
national holiday what dates that i share um oh come on yeah dwayne know that johnson's i think
it is um second of may second of may yeah another May. 2nd of May. Yeah, another holiday. Mine's 1st of May.
Interesting.
We do top end our public holidays.
Yeah, well, there was a while there we didn't really get much between, you know.
Yeah.
Like, there was a long stretch you didn't get a holiday.
Now with, you know, your King's birthday, your Matariki chucked in there for good effect
that, you know, they're kind of more evenly spread, aren't they, across the board.
Jeez, I tell you what.
I was very surprised to know in America they don't get many days annual leave.
No, there's not a lot of leave.
Not a lot of leave.
No, they don't get a lot of leave.
Two weeks.
Yeah.
The whole year.
I was checking my leave.
I'm minus 31 hours.
So you'll be here nonstop.
So you keep going and you can enjoy the podcast.
The Hits, the Jono and Ben podcast.
It is Lost Frequencies, Callum Scott.
Where are you now?
It is The Hits, Jono and Ben.
606 on a Monday morning.
And jeez, I hope you all kept warm and dry.
What was a shocker, shocker of a weekend, weather-wise.
Particularly in the Auckland region.
Auckland under a state of emergency was hit hard by the rain
and this was the news update of how bad it was.
It rained unlike anything we've ever seen before.
A deluge that will go down in the record books as Auckland's wettest day ever.
Ever.
Yeah, it was wet.
It was wetter than a dolphin, Ben Boyce.
It really was.
I, on Friday night, went to get fish and chip Friday.
You know, it's a staple
in the prior household.
Went to pick up
the fish and chips
and the fish and chips
got flooded.
Had to have my pants
up by my thighs,
had my white thighs out.
Well, of course,
so much chaos in the city.
I mean, as you say,
it was houses,
businesses flooded,
there was cars
floating down the streets,
concerts cancelled,
flights cancelled,
power outages.
5,000 houses or more look like
they've been damaged and affected by it. So we really are thinking of everyone that was
affected by that. Just an enormous amount of rain over such a short period of time and
there's more to come this week. We'll get the latest update about 7.30 from our weather
expert, but just relentless.
And if you know, it's a village, New Zealand, isn't it?
And if you weren't directly affected,
you probably know someone who was affected.
And all weekend, just the soundtrack of sirens.
Yeah.
And I couldn't help but thinking those people,
the emergency service workers,
have probably, many of them might have their places flooded,
cars gone, families affected,
but they have to be out there helping other people, don't they?
So thank you to them.
Yeah, you're right.
For the bottom of my cold heart.
Yeah, because yeah, you're right.
In times of sort of, you know, this chaos and crisis, people do sort of band together
and those are those good stories that come out.
Wayne Brown, he was out there with a bucket, wasn't he?
I don't know if he was the Auckland man.
He was getting out there with a bucket.
But yeah, it's just unbelievable.
Some of the scenes you saw, you know, just the people
tripping on buses
and the water's up to the seats
or people paddle boarding
through the domain
and things like that.
It's just wild footage.
It's the sort of footage
you just watch on the news
and think it's coming
from overseas.
Yeah.
Don't you?
But anyway,
if you were affected
or you know anyone
who was affected,
we'd love to hear from you.
Love to chat, you know.
Give us a call on New Zealand's Breakfast, 0800 the hits.
And then South Island, beautiful.
Beautiful, 30 degrees, friends of mine in Invercargill,
they were out at the beach and stuff.
And you're like, is this the same country?
Like, you know, right around the country we are.
Well, you know, many in the South Island would like it not to be the same country.
So maybe this is the chance to actually, for them to split off from the North.
And, you know, and I guess, you know, a concert in the grand scheme of things
is not as important as, you know,
families and keeping people safe.
But Elton John, again, coming back after three years
and then having both the concerts cancelled.
Just Elton, he got on a plane to Hawaii.
I saw it pretty much straight away.
I mean, he's probably going,
this goddamn place is cursed.
Where's my rocket?
Put me on it, man.
Take me to Aloha Broha.
And he's still dandy.
He's dandy on a beach in Hawaii
where we all want to be.
Yeah, so we really are thinking
of everyone affected
over the weekend.
And as Jono said,
if you were affected
or how did you get through
the weekend,
hopefully you're okay.
Give us a text,
4487-0800-THE-HITS.
Maybe you want to shout out to someone, you know,
just a great person who helped you out.
Yeah, times of need, people really do band together.
So thinking of everyone this morning.
The Hits, the Jono and Ben podcast.
Now, over the weekend, you made me read the book,
Prince Harry's book.
And you couldn't have found a more appropriate weekend
to stay inside and read a book.
Now, this is a form of punishment
because you besmirched the great name of Harry
who poured his heart out in a book
about all his woes, his family woes,
his mother, his relationship with his father, his brother.
And you bought the book
and you used it as a punchline on a social media post.
Then you got the children to return it.
Got the children to return the
children to return the book to the bookstore so now you got me a copy and you're like by monday
which is today i had to read the book and there's going to be a quiz at uh just after 7 30 this
morning every question i get wrong i've got to pay 60 which is the price of the book to someone
on 0800 the hat so i'm a bit nervous about what you're going to be asking me this morning after
reading the book well the main thing is you've made peace with harry well yeah and he is welcome back on the
show yeah yeah look i kind of like it's interesting reading the book and you know in a racing so i do
like on one hand i feel really sorry for him like reading the book i mean his life under the
spotlight they caught the from day one he's he was the spear there was the air and the spear and no
one really cared as much about him as maybe his brother. Well, that's not humiliating at all.
Yeah, and then obviously his mother.
I'm called the spare around here for some reason.
Yeah, his mother's death, which just would have affected anyone
in that situation as well.
It doesn't feel like he's quite worked through that.
Yeah, well, for a long time he was, as a kid when it happened,
but he was like, oh, it's not real.
My mum's in hiding.
And that was the way he was just thinking for a while until it suddenly dawned on him that, unfortunately, it was real.
So you feel really sorry for him.
But then also reading the book, I'm like, why are you putting all this in here?
There's a lot of stuff in there that I'm kind of like, why are you putting in there?
Personal issues with the family or this bit that you love to play about, frostbite.
My penis was oscillating between extremely sensitive
and borderline traumatized.
He makes it sound so sophisticated when he says it like that.
So this was at his brother's wedding.
I was reading about that over the weekend.
He'd been away and he was like, oh my goodness,
because he'd been to the cold temperatures and stuff.
And then he ended up having to go see a doctor,
showing the doctor and the doctor's like,
just give it time, mate, it'll be fine.
So that was the medical advice from the doctor.
He'd be like, oh, great, well, I've just got everything out for you.
Seema crown jewels.
Yeah.
But yeah, I got a bit sleepy throughout the weekend reading it nonstop,
and my daughter, you might have seen on the Hits Breakfast Instagram,
she kindly took a video of me having a sleep.
My dad's meant to be reading the Harry book.
So my dad's meant to be reading the Harry book.
So my dad's meant to be reading the Harry book for work.
And he looks like he's doing a really good job at it.
Look at him reading away.
Look at those skills.
Whoa, good job.
How'd she get the password for her Instagram, mate?
I don't know.
She sent it through.
She sent it through.
Some of the other things I found really interesting as well.
So I've got these noted down just in case you're going to ask me about it Huge fan of the TV show Friends
Like he was a massive fan growing up
And then he got to party
With Monica
You know
Courtney Cox stayed at her house
So that was
He stayed at Courtney Cox's house
Yeah pretty big deal as well
He talks about
I was a big fan of Friends
She never invited me over
No she's not
Actually he's actually friends with Friends
Talks a lot about having drug use
With cocaine
Magic mushrooms
Things like that Some pills He took these pills To make him feel a little nervous at his mate's
wedding a little less nervous sorry and uh that caused this sort of laxative effect as well he
really goes into a lot of a lot of stuff where you're like harry mate you could have you know
you can you don't have to put all this in into the book and one more thing i did find uh really
fascinating was william and kate they were huge fans of the TV show Suits. So before, they were massive fans.
And he's like, guess what I'm with?
And Willie's like, F off, basically.
You're not.
He's like, yeah, we're together, you know?
Is she as cool as she is on the show?
So I found that really interesting.
Turns out she wasn't.
Yeah, so 7.30 this morning,
I'm going to be put to the test.
Any question I get wrong about the book.
I've got six questions about the book,
and $60 goes to the caller, next caller on 0800.
I spent all weekend reading it.
Everyone you get wrong.
All right, so hopefully I'll do all right.
You won't be hoping I do well.
It is The Hits.
You've got Jono and Ben.
The Hits, the Jono and Ben podcast.
Shocking news for Kiwis over the weekend.
Very funny and loved comedian
Dai Henwood from Seven Days, Family Feud,
Lego Masters, publicly announced
on Friday that he had stage 4
bowel cancer. Yeah,
I got diagnosed
with stage 4 cancer,
bowel cancer or colorectal
cancer.
A very big tumour in my bowel
and a series of tumour in my bowel and a series of tumours
in my liver and that
sent me into a massive
tailspin because my biggest
fear in life
was cancer.
Yeah, he'd been privately
battling it for some time but I thought it was such a
brave thing he did going public.
He did it to help people who were going through
the same thing, sharing his story the interview was very powerful there's uh it was on
the project there's like a 45 minute um interview the full version online which is yeah it's just
just really really powerful um going you know talking about what he's gone through um how many
times he's cried you know that as you would trying to come to terms with it and his attitude i think
it's just incredible he talks
about how cancer he doesn't want it to define him how he responds to the cancer is how he wants that
to define him some some positive things some really really amazing insights from di during
the interview i love today i'm gonna love tomorrow who knows what the future is gonna bring but
i'm gonna face it head on There's no point in hiding.
You can't hide from the inevitable, so just face it
and hopefully face it with a smile.
Bloody inspirational guy.
Yeah.
We knew, obviously, behind the scenes what he was going through,
and every time I'd see him on TV or commentating cricket,
I'm like, no one knows what's going on in this guy's life behind the scenes,
but he's turning up and just still being his usual happy self.
Well, yeah, but then behind the scenes,
he was saying on that interview that he's never had anything
he's thought about 24 hours a day,
and that's just something that consumes him.
The other day he was, and as it would, you know,
the other day he was brushing his teeth,
and he's like, I haven't thought about cancer for an hour.
That was the time he hadn't, but all the time it's just, you know the other day he was brushing his teeth and he's like I haven't thought about cancer for an hour that was the time he had but all the time
it's just you know
so we've been lucky enough
very brave thing
getting out there
and going public with it too
lucky enough to work with
Di on many occasions
lucky enough to call him a mate
so you know
without a word
one of my comedy idols
you know
he is just so funny
such a genuinely funny person
so buddy
passionate
so friendly as well
just what you see
is what you get from Di Henwood
so we want to send
a lot of love out for him,
for what he's going through
and what he did by talking about it.
And his family too.
Taika Waititi and Rita Ora confirming over the weekend
that they in fact are married.
How's that?
That's pretty awesome.
Didn't we already know they were married?
Well, we kind of, everyone alluded to it.
It was one of the things that everyone was like,
but they haven't officially said they were married.
So now they've officially said, yes, they had a ceremony and they got married.
So they want presents.
Are we sending presents?
I don't know.
We didn't get invited.
We're just on the registry.
We didn't get invited to the thing.
Are they sending us to Briscoe's?
They've got a list at Briscoe's?
We're going to motivate you this morning.
It is a Monday morning, so let's do that.
It's just another Motivational Monday.
That's right. This is where we plagiarise stuff from Instagram,
play it on the radio in an effort to motivate you on a Monday morning.
And you know, there might be many out there needing motivation. It's been a long weekend for some people with the floods happening.
Do you reckon Chris Hipkins is looking through his wallet for the exchange card on this job?
Oh, yeah.
Week one.
Yeah, I know.
Jacinda would be, you know.
She's sucking back on a saving.
Not my problem anymore.
No, I did see over the weekend she was posting some of the messages.
She's the local MP for Mount Albert now, isn't she?
She would do.
But we want to motivate you on a Monday morning.
And David Goggins, you might have seen him online.
He was an ex-Navy SEAL.
And he's just kind of like a big ball of energy and muscle and quite loud.
Very intense.
Very intense.
He's the kind of guy, it feels like Goggins is on the verge of killing a man.
Like if I read an internet story tomorrow that says,
David Goggins has killed a man, I'll be like, yeah, that's probably what's happened.
But he will motivate you.
And he's, you know, he has done some amazing, amazing things because he is highly motivated.
And here's some motivation from David Goggins this morning.
You know how you get mentally tough?
It's a lifestyle.
Instead of hitting that news button in the morning and not making your bed, not cleaning your house, you don't hit this news button.
You get up.
You don't want to go run? You go run. You don't want to go swim? You go swim. You don't want to make your bed? You make your bed and not cleaning your house, you don't hit the snooze button. You get up. You don't want to go run?
You go run.
You don't want to go swim?
You go swim.
You don't want to make your bed?
You make your bed.
You don't want to clean your house?
You clean your house.
You don't want to study?
You study.
That's how you start to callous your mind.
It's going to suck.
Do something that sucks every single day of your life.
That's how you grow.
Embrace the suck.
Embrace the suck?
Yeah.
It was quite motivating
And then the way he sort of put it at the end was unusual
But hey
It's a great slogan for like Godfrey's
Or a vacuum cleaner shop
Embrace the suck
I'm going to get that on a t-shirt mate
But he's right
You're going to do things every day that are going to suck
But what if I suck as a person?
Does that mean he's just like
Oh we'll just embrace it mate
Is that what he's saying?
He's just saying hey
Not everything is going to be roses,
but you've got to just get in there and do it.
What have you done this morning that sucks?
You tell me.
Well, when the alarm goes off at whatever time we get up.
Yeah, that sucks.
It does kind of suck.
But you did it.
You embraced the suck.
Yeah, that's right, and I'm here today.
You took that suck right in, my friend.
The Hits, the Jono and Ben podcast.
Celebrity Treasure Island back on our TV screens tonight,
7.30 on TVNZ2.
And it's got fans of the show
and celebrities battling it out
against each other.
And one of the celebrities
that's back again
on Celebrity Treasure Island
is Matty McLean.
You'll know him from Breakfast.
And we caught up with him on Friday.
Matty McLean is joining us in the studio.
You are back on the show.
I don't know what I'm doing.
Yeah.
Now, Celebrity Treasure Island,
fans versus faves.
You've done it before.
But you were a fan.
Huge.
And then you went on.
You kind of could play either team, really.
It's funny.
So to speak.
I thought there would be enough of the choice.
I've picked my lane, Ben.
I made my choice.
That wasn't what I, yeah, okay.
He's got you on here.
He's trying to turn you, Matty.
No.
You're a fan and you're one of the faves on the show.
The funny thing is, when I was talking to my husband, Ryan, about it before I left,
Could be your wife.
Could be your wife.
Still an option.
No, it's too expensive.
I'm not doing that again.
He said, imagine if they prank you.
Imagine if they put you on the fans team.
Because truly, I've been a super fan of these shows for such a long time.
Yes, you went through the first time.
And it was obviously a bit of an emotional roller coaster for you.
There's the famous thing of you're like, I don't need to prove myself to Barbara Kendall.
And you're quite emotional.
I know.
You imagine you're tired.
You're hungry.
There's a lot going on.
And it's a funny thing.
Because I love these shows and every time I see someone cry on them I'm like what the hell and then you get on there and you understand it you are sleep deprived you are starving you're
exhausted because you're doing these really physical challenges on no sleep and no food
plus you have no contact with any of the outside world.
So, you know, if you have a bad day at work,
you can call a friend, you can call your partner,
you can call your mum or dad or whatever
and chat to them about it.
You don't have that out there.
So you are in this bubble only talking and thinking
and dreaming and playing this game
for as long as you're out there for it.
So the emotions end up just weirdly getting the better of you.
And I have seen some very dramatic footage of you this season
where you collapse.
I know.
Well, you probably can't give away too much.
No, I can't.
And part of that is because I honestly don't really remember much of it.
So I'm fascinated more than anything to see how it all plays out
it was a very scary dramatic quite dramatic moment um but yeah i we're in a challenge i
remember turning to um one of the people i was on a team with and saying something doesn't
feel right i don't feel well and that's pretty much the last thing I remember so seeing it in this
super tease that they released is the first time I've actually seen it who would have thought a
lack of food a lack of sleep you would suffer a medical event yeah who would have thought that
I would have been dramatic on reality television it's so not me was there also a part of you going oh my god being marooned on an island
with fans sounds very punishing yeah thank god they weren't allowed phones to like constantly
taking selfies and stuff but no it was it kind of added this really amazing layer because first of
all i could put myself in their shoes as someone who's watched these shows for a long time and
dreamt about being on them i could imagine how excited they would have been in that moment.
But also it provided this weird element for us where we had literally no idea who these people were.
At least in the, you know, when I was on it the last time, I knew Moses from Solomio.
I knew who Barbara Kendall was.
I knew Sam Wallace and stuff.
So you kind of have this understanding of each other.
This time it was, they were complete unknowns, which is fascinating. was i knew sam wallace and stuff so you kind of have this understanding of each other this time
it was they were complete unknowns which is fascinating i've got maddie mclean with us uh
celebrity chaser island fans versus faves it's on tonight uh monday night tvnz2 you also had a
big summer got married as well congratulations thank you it was really exciting what was yours
and ryan's first dance uh we didn't do a first couples dance. We just opened up
the dance floor to everyone.
Ryan doesn't love
being the centre of attention.
Right.
I'm okay with that.
You're okay with that.
But even dancing
can be an extra step.
It's not for me.
I thought to myself,
I've already put him
through the torture
of standing up
in front of people
in a ceremony setting.
Yeah.
If he doesn't want
to do a first dance,
we're not going to do
a first dance.
But we played
Whitney Houston,
I Want to Dance with Somebody,
and it really set the mood off right.
There's something that I know about you two,
is that you spent a day in Spain on the beach together.
We did, actually.
We haven't caught up as much since Spain, but it was a wonderful day.
You were interviewing...
I was going across the room with Ryan Gosling and Jack Black. I had to interview Junket in Spain, but it was a wonderful day. You were interviewing... I was going across the river with Ryan Gosling and Jack Black.
I had an interview junket in Spain by myself.
I went and travelled across there.
And then I remember going on Instagram and I arrived
and I was like, oh, Manny McLean is in Spain.
Why were you in Spain?
I was just on holiday.
Yeah.
It was the best time of my life.
With Fletch from ZM.
Yeah.
And so I messaged you and I was like, hey, you're in Spain.
I'm in Spain.
I'm only here for like a night.
And you're like, come to the beach tomorrow.
Hang out.
And I'm like, oh, I'm free.
And it was fun.
It was a fun day.
It was such a good holiday.
Let's do it again.
It was good.
He got back and he's like, I was like, what did you do?
He's like, oh, we went to the beach with me and the coach.
You're like, what?
Well, hey, well, listen, looking forward to seeing Celebrity Treasure on.
Fans v Faves, which is on tonight.
Matty McLean.
Always love catching up with you, mate.
Love you guys too.
The Hits, the Jono and Ben jonathan ben podcast it is the hits you got jonathan ben 740 on your monday morning prince harry's book uh you've been making me read that over the weekend because i bought it a few
weeks ago what a monster what me making you read a book well it's a lot it was a lot to get through
over a very short space of time uh because i
bought it a few weeks ago for a silly little joke that i did on social media then i got my kids to
take it back and swap it for something else and you're like that's not on you need to read prince
harry's book as an official act of apology to harry and his wonderful wife megan so i read the
book and i kind of went through waves of feeling sorry for him, you know, for obviously all the things he's gone through,
being under the spotlight, being the spear, not the ear, you know,
his mother's death, get hounded by the press.
But then a lot of the book I was kind of at the same time going,
why are you putting this in there?
This is not going to help your family relationship.
A lot of personal stuff in there that I kind of went,
well, you could have left that out too,
including this bit that you love playing.
My penis was oscillating
between extremely sensitive and borderline traumatized as he's reading that out doing
the audiobook do you think he's going well maybe i could maybe not put that in delete that passage
no one needed to know that but anyway you're uh you're like jeremy clarkson you need to show that
you're sorry i don't know who's worse you or jeremy clarkson mate he had to make an apology
to them as well didn't he he did He did. Now, with every page turned,
did you feel your soul repairing itself?
Oh, well, yeah.
I guess so, in a way.
I mean, I just really wanted to know
what the questions are.
Because you had bonding time with your daughter, too.
Indy was happy that you could both read books together.
And I know how much you hate spending time with your family.
No, I do like spending time with our family.
I read a little bit. This was designed for multiple reasons. Family time. All weekend, Indy's like, so I do like spending time with my family. Just not, I'm not like, I read a little bit.
This was designed
for multiple reasons.
Family time.
All weekend,
and he's like,
should we do some more reading?
I'm like,
that's all I'm doing
is reading.
Well,
it was a good weekend
to be inside and reading.
Yeah.
Okay,
Ben,
so the game,
as you know,
was you had to complete the book.
You finished the book,
yes,
no?
I did finish the book.
Late last night,
I finished the book.
It took me all weekend
to get to the end
of a lot of reading,
and I feel like I've got a good grasp on everything they're going to ask me.
But who knows?
Well, let's repair your relationship with Harry.
Okay.
Next I'll get on to repairing his relationship with his brother.
Okay.
First things first.
Hit the music, Producer Joel.
Questions pertaining to the book.
Everyone, you get incorrect.
Yeah.
$60.
The RRP, recommended retail price of the book,
will be going to a caller on 0800. And that's for my money.
It's your money.
It's with the Jeopardy! leg.
Okay.
All right, go on.
First question.
Yep, go.
Who is Harry's wife?
Who is Harry married to?
We're starting easy, aren't we?
Meghan Markle.
One for one.
Yeah.
Okay.
Next question.
Okay, good.
Okay.
Who is Prince Harry's mother?
Who gave birth to Prince Harry?
Don't.
Diana.
Well done.
Yeah.
Hang on.
Hang on. You can't. Don't. Don, but hang on, hang on.
You can't, don't tell me these questions are all going to be easy and I just spent three days reading the book for nothing.
Ask me about like, go on, ask me a question.
Go on, ask me something harder.
What colour is Prince Harry's hair?
Would you like multiple choice?
No. Harry's hair Would you like multiple choice? No
Ask me about things like how
He bowed up Will Arnett
The actor
Didn't even know it was Will Arnett
And he made him do the Batman voice
At the party
I'm sorry you didn't answer the question
$60 goes to a caller
No
It's red
It's red
Okay
Next question
Prince Harry
Has
A father What is his name? Charles Prince Charles Next question. Prince Harry has a father.
What is his name?
Charles.
Prince Charles.
King Charles.
Yeah.
Okay, Charles.
Ask me the harder questions.
Ask me the questions.
Like the time that, like,
Meghan didn't even know who Prince Andrew was.
First time they met them.
He came along and helped out the Queen.
She probably still doesn't want to know who he is.
She hadn't obviously Googled. They don't want to know who he is either ask me things like that
fifth and final question
he's read the entire Prince Harry spear book
over three days
it seems like a big waste of time right about now
what country is Prince Harry
currently living in
America
he's got five out of five
smashing the Prince Harry quiz living in America he's got five out of five
smashing the Prince Harry quiz every word is that the quiz you save your
money you've repaired your relationship with Harry I know so much about you but
this five from five hundred percent the only person I've seen disappointed with
a hundred percent yes because I spent all weekend the three days reading the Five from five, 100%. The only person I've seen disappointed with a 100% pass mark.
Yes, because I spent all weekend, three days reading the book for nothing.
Well, tell you what, $5,000.
You might not have won money then because he was so good at that Prince Harry quiz.
It was the easiest quiz ever.
You can win 5K next.
We've got five words, 5K shortly.
There's the hits.
The hits.
The Jono and Ben podcast.
You mentioned it before.
As soon as I say I bought a gift for my wife,
you brought up the much-talked-about fry pan incident.
The heralded fry pan where he purchased his wife a fry pan
on Christmas, I believe.
No, it was a birthday.
It was in amongst other gifts.
It was a fry pan that she had mentioned in the store
that she was like, hey, we need to get this.
This would be a great one for us to get.
And I got it in amongst other presents,
but all we focus on is the fry pan.
Got it in amongst spatulas.
No, there was other stuff.
Aprons.
No, I've since learned that no matter what.
Got her a special box of washing powder too, mate.
No, mate.
It was like there was a jewelry.
There was an item of clothing.
And there was a fry pan.
But anyway, we've all zeroed in on the fry pan.
And I have since learned that no matter what conversation went on saying,
this is something I like, you should never get that for a gift for a birthday.
It's something for the household.
It's a gift for the household, not a gift for your partner.
So you've learned from yourself.
I missed the mark.
I left a scar on your present giving history.
But I do like to think my intentions are good.
I like to think about what I'm buying for someone.
But again, I feel like I've missed the mark again so a little bit of a quick back story uh when we were in
america my wife and i hold on when we're in we're sorry we're in america yeah okay this is the back
to give you some context to what this is okay so my, so my wife and I had a day out together.
It was really cool because, you know, you're the same.
You've got kids when you're in a relationship.
Sometimes it's hard to find time for just the two of us.
Although when you get that time with just the two of you,
you've got nothing to talk about.
We had a really, really fun time.
The kids went with their cousins.
They stayed with their cousins for the day,
and we went on a bit of an adventure.
We went to the football, the 49ers game of football.
We drove for like an hour and a half.
I got lost.
I took us on for another 45 minutes on top of that.
None of that surprises me.
But we had a really fun time at the football game,
watching the football, experiencing what was an amazing atmosphere,
having some hot dogs.
It was great.
Amanda and I had a lot of fun.
And Amanda said at the game, she was like,
I really feel like I should be wearing some merch,
some 49ers top to support because everyone else was.
But everything's expensive.
You're overseas.
You're like, well, we're probably going to spend money on experiences
rather than material things.
So when I got home from the trip, I was walking through the mall
and there was a 49ers T-shirt about her size.
I was like, hey, this is nice. Thought of her. I'll buy a t-shirt for Amanda bring it home because she didn't buy one at the game this was a special moment that we had together so I gave it to her
I was very excited I was like hey I saw this for you at the mall and she was like oh that's so
thoughtful I was like great I'll wear it to the gym is what what she said. And I was like, has this gone from a new,
has it already been relegated to a gym T-shirt?
Because you do now, can I?
And before you jump in there, this was two weeks ago.
She has been to the gym multiple times
and not once have I seen her wear it to the gym.
Can I be, you're a friend, you know?
Friends can be honest with each other.
You buy your wife a lot of sporting merch.
He buys her Lakers stuff.
He buys her Dodgers stuff.
He buys her Lakers LeBron James.
He just buys her, like you're dressing your wife
like an 11-year-old boy in sports merch and memorabilia.
And maybe she just doesn't want a 49ers t-shirt.
Jeez, that team's got a whole other meaning if you add another 20 digits to it, doesn't it?
Yeah, yeah.
But yeah, the intention was there then.
And it wasn't like she once said that it was a bad gift,
but I'm like,
maybe instead of the gym,
she's like,
I might use it while I'm cooking
with the frying pan.
Maybe it's a perfect frying pan t-shirt.
The ultimate gift.
It spills from the oil.
It'll soak it in.
You're dressing her up like a hyper fan
of just American sports.
She's got every team.
You name an American team,
she's got a big sporting merch on it.
The Hits, the Jono and Ben podcast.
Taika Waititi and
Rita Ora confirming, well, she confirmed
over the weekend they are in fact
married. A lot of people thought they might have
got married secretly. Very small ceremony.
They're going to have a big party later.
And the gift registry. We were just trying to
figure out where that was so we can purchase them something
on behalf of the show.
That's right.
Briscoes.
Yeah, it might be briscoes.
Living and giving.
Living and giving is always a good one, isn't it?
So you get some wonderful candles and things from living and giving.
Have you noticed anything different about me in 2023?
Look at this face.
What are you noticing?
No.
No, nothing?
No, if I'm looking at your face.
A bit more wrinklier?
No, I'm not going.
Hey, look, that's low-hanging fruit.
I'm not going to go there.
No, you look.
I say refreshed.
Well, that's funny you mention, Ben, because I do.
Well, don't say it with a question mark.
Yeah, I'm refreshed.
I've got a new health regime going on.
What's that?
Do you know what?
It's important to look after your longevity, isn't it, Ben Boyce?
Yeah.
That's why you stick hummus and celery sticks into your body, don't you?
I don't mind eating that.
Listen, I saw Art Green, who's on Celebrity Treasure Island,
fans versus faves, Art Green.
I saw him on Instagram.
Yeah.
He dives headfirst into a deep freezer of water with ice in it,
ice cold water
Yeah
And I thought well if all I have to do is splash some icy cold water on my body
And I'm going to end up looking like that
Sign me up
Oh yeah because he does that cold plunge sort of thing right?
So you're doing that
So it's called the Wim Hof Method
Yeah
Well I'm having a shower every morning
And then for the last 10 seconds I turn it on cold.
So, yeah, I am doing it.
But they go into like a plunge gold thing, an icy thing,
and they sit in there and they get their breathing and all that.
So they don't put the shower on cold right at the end.
They go, I'm doing this.
And then get out.
I'm doing the same thing.
There's that crazy Dutch bastard Wim Hof.
He set this all up.
So you do that, and apparently, I don't know,
I guess it shocks the fat cells away from your body.
So there you go.
That's my suggestion to you.
10 seconds of cold at the end of the shower, mate.
I feel like you're doing it easier.
Art Green and me.
Next time Art Green's in here, I'll show you my abs.
You show him his and they'll be exactly the same.
