Starting point is 00:00:00 Kia ora, welcome, it's the John and Ben podcast brought to you by Challenge Petrol Service Stations. You know, one of my family members had a lisp. Really, you don't focus too much in on the lisp the more you hang with a person who has a lisp. Right, yeah. We would, because they had a really good sense of humour about it, just try and get them to say all right. The slippery snake snuck in, you know. Always used to make us smile. What are you looking out the window?
Starting point is 00:00:31 You look distracted. There was a dog in the workplace. Marketing team's back out there. Yeah, someone bought a dog in the workplace, which seems like a risky idea on a Friday. I was watching a lady walk towards where she wanted to go, but the dog was going to go the other way. And that's why dogs in the workplace are probably a controversial thing.
Starting point is 00:00:46 I love dogs. Don't get me wrong. Some officers have sort of an open dog policy, haven't they? Some days. We've got a very specified day. Fridays, I think. Bringing your dog to work on Friday. If you want.
Starting point is 00:00:58 You haven't. No. I haven't. I don't think. People love my dog in small doses. I mean, I love my dog, but very excitable. For me, it's like bringing a child to work. But a hairy one who doesn't listen to you
Starting point is 00:01:10 and is just too excited about the new environment. Wonderful Megan Pappas, who hosts the day show here on The Hits, she brought her dog in when she was working at ZDM previously, Ben. One Friday morning, Dog Friday, Dogs Welcome Friday. Yeah, bring them on in. What happened? You explain. Well, I sort of walked through the office,
Starting point is 00:01:29 walked into the studio. This is five in the morning. Yeah, walked in the studio and just, you know, we're about to start getting into the day and it was just like that. You're like, ooh. And it's always the process of like, you can smell it and you go through the denial.
Starting point is 00:01:42 Surely it's not me. Or secondly, you're like, how would I have stepped in there? Where would I have stepped in there? Yeah, and then I looked at my shoe. and smell it and you go through the denial surely it's not me although secondly you're like how would i have stepped in there where would i have stepped in there yeah and then i looked at my shoe that's fine i was like oh good and then looked at the other shoe uh-oh and it was everywhere and then i looked back where i'd walked and i traipsed it in from just out in the office just everywhere and it was it was like sitting by someone's desk and it was yeah that's what happens, you know.
Starting point is 00:02:05 It's part of the fun for dogs in the workplace. What was I going to say? The familiar smell. It all smells the same. There's no dog that, you know. And when you get it, it stings the nostrils, doesn't it? It does. It's very pungent.
Starting point is 00:02:23 Yeah. So what do you reckon? You reckon dogs in the workplace or not? Don't sit on the fence here. It's a yes or no. This is a debate. Why is it? Why?
Starting point is 00:02:33 But what I say is only just going to put me out there. Like I said, I love dogs. I love, you know, I've got a dog and I love them, but I wouldn't bring my dog. Can I say that? I wouldn't bring my dog to the office. And this is for comedic purposes. You're like,
Starting point is 00:02:45 you want a dog that's got a bark on the ear and a bit of a shambles? You want a dog that's got a poop in the office? Then I've got the
Starting point is 00:02:51 dog for you. Still haven't answered the question. Line in the sand. Line in the sand. You still know. I don't put lines in the sand.
Starting point is 00:02:57 I don't like putting lines in the sand. I'm going to say no. I'm going to say no dogs in the workplace. Okay. Only for that matter. You can't have
Starting point is 00:03:03 something in the workplace that's going to go around defecating. There are some dogs maybe should, you know, but maybe they need to, like, sit some sort of obedience test. Like your license. And then you're like, that dog's good to go in workplaces. That one's not.
Starting point is 00:03:16 We had Derek from IT. He defecated on the floor. He lost his job. You know, but now we're welcoming these beings in that just do it at no warning. You know, at least Derek was like, hey, guys, watch this. This will be classic. And he just read the room wrong.
Starting point is 00:03:32 Didn't he? We're all like, mate, it's morning tea. Yeah, no. It's getting awkward. Anyway, what are you doing this weekend? Well, what have we got going? It's the Ant-Man with the kids tonight. So, yeah, taking them on to that.
Starting point is 00:03:42 Going to that. So we'll be looking forward to that. Paul Rudd. Yeah. Yeah. We spoke to Paul Rudd this week what a true gentleman he was great
Starting point is 00:03:49 he's lovely who do you reckon is the loveliest person in Hollywood Rudd would be up there yeah well Rudd is what yeah he would be up there
Starting point is 00:03:58 Cosby had the title for a couple of years he did he did and then it went awry but you see you don't like they are
Starting point is 00:04:04 great actors. And that's the thing that probably I'm not saying Paul Rudd's not lovely. Because everyone says he's lovely. Then you see him, you talk to him, and he seems lovely. So he's obviously like he's either going home and defecating on the floor or something. Like Derek.
Starting point is 00:04:19 But I don't think he is. He doesn't seem like that. The other... I only had very minimal moments with this person. Dwayne, the rock Johnson seemed. Thank you. Didn't want to say it, but that's what I was thinking.
Starting point is 00:04:30 Yeah, I know that's what you're thinking. He does seem lovely though, you know, all regards, Ellen. Ellen, again,
Starting point is 00:04:37 she's in the Cosby. We're not in the Cosby, but you know, James Corden, one of the greats. James Corden. He's, I,
Starting point is 00:04:43 I thought he seemed lovely and likable, but then his stories, and I'm like, I don't know. I've never met the guy. I've never met the guy. People just, yeah. And it's a clickbait thing too, isn't it? He might be lovely and then just, you know. But also I think it's very hard for a human being to go through their life 24-7
Starting point is 00:05:01 and to always be in a happy, you know, your things that go wrong, you get a parking ticket, you get a thing like that, and you can have frustrations. And all it needs is someone walking past and going, oh, Jono Pryor, look at him, he's, you know. He's like, oh, I'm going to get another parking ticket again, you know, and then suddenly you're like, oh, Jono Pryor's a bit of a dick. Don't worry, he is.
Starting point is 00:05:18 Don't worry. I'll back that up. Wouldn't it be great to go through your life not giving a shit what anyone thought about you? Wouldn't that be great? No radio announcer in the history of radio announcing has ever done that uh hosking he's pointing upstairs i don't think he cares whatever he won or maybe he does but but he's he's such a great broadcaster and he you know probably like knows this place he'll give you an answer dogs in the workplace he'd He'd tell you. He wouldn't scoot around there. You know, he'd just tell you.
Starting point is 00:05:47 And he'd be like, well, that's my opinion. And back it up, which I appreciate. Yeah. You do have to respect people who do that, don't you? Because it must be just so freeing. Yeah. True. You have an interaction with someone, and if they don't like you,
Starting point is 00:05:58 you're like, I really could not care less. Okay. No dogs in the workplace. There, I've said it. Oh, hell! All right. We'll go get the people with dogs. Oh, no, don't Oh, hell! All right, hold on. We'll go get the people with dogs.
Starting point is 00:06:05 Oh, no, don't bring the van. Don't bring the van. This is what we're alluding for. Marty from Flavour, come over here. I don't like it anymore.
Starting point is 00:06:13 I don't want to be like Mike Hosking. All right, enjoy the podcast this weekend. Stay safe and we'll catch you back Monday. The Hits, the Jono and Ben podcast.
Starting point is 00:06:24 The full horror of Cyclone Gabriel's destruction has sort of been revealed over the last couple of days, but there's still so many heartbreaking images we see on the TV. Still thousands of people uncontactable is a hard word to say, but it's just like we haven't been able to make contact for the last few days. People displaced from their homes as well without power, so it's just heartbreaking. There are 3,000 or so, I think, in the Hawke's Bay.
Starting point is 00:06:48 That was a huge number. Considering the population of that region, to have that many people unaccounted for is really frightening and I'm sure very anxious for a lot of families around New Zealand. And like many, you sit on the sidelines watching, going, I want to help, but what can I do? Now, earlier in the week, we spoke to Cam, who was just south of Auckland.
Starting point is 00:07:11 He was up all night with his digger helping people. We had to rescue a family, and there's 17 dogs, and so we had to get them out. Yeah, yeah, 15 schnauzers and two alsatians lovely people but uh yeah that was an educational that is a that is a lot of dogs to wrangle i mean they're only what 83 dogs off having 101 yeah yeah something like that that's that's good to see you got quick maths mate well i don't know i said it with confidence but i don't know if i nailed it to be honest Cam and so where did you
Starting point is 00:07:46 put all the dogs? So the local school, Roma Roma school got opened up and just to hold everyone and give shelter overnight, the big message is just stay safe and stay dry and stay out of the water. Wonderful man and he joins us now, Cam good morning. Yeah morning boys
Starting point is 00:08:02 Great to have you on, have you slept? Somewhat. Well, yeah, because you've been so busy doing such a great job helping out people, as has many New Zealanders around the country. Yeah, we just do what we can. It's kind of the Kiwi way. Really struck a chord with us, Cam, because we did speak to you earlier in the week and you'd been up all night rescuing people who had had their cars trapped in floods,
Starting point is 00:08:24 also rescuing a family rescuing a family and their 17 dogs yeah yeah all right it seems like a lot of dogs too many dogs but anyway i won't focus in on that uh the dog's okay now yeah i believe so everyone's all happy and dry and then we saw you on seven sharp too that night and you said something on seven sharp which has stuck with us oh yeah which part If you've got the gear or ability or you're able to help your neighbour and stuff, then you've just got to do it. I mean, if you choose not to and you've got the ability, you're a bit of a twat in my opinion, but you know.
Starting point is 00:08:54 Now, it was like if you've got gear and you've got the ability and you can help people, why wouldn't you do it if not you're a twat? Now, we are twats. Firstly, we'll get the elephant out of the room and secondly we've got no ability or gear so technical gear radio gear i guess it's not ours though we don't yeah off that it's really struck a chord with us and we're thinking what on earth can we do and so we've decided to do a charity drive for the red cross cam yeah i think that's a great idea, guys. Oh, cool.
Starting point is 00:09:26 Yeah, we'd like to try and just spend a few days next week doing a literal charity drive, raising money for New Zealand Disaster Fund for the New Zealand Red Cross. Jono, pitch Cam the idea we want to do because we want to create some awareness, do something that people are going to donate over a couple of days. As someone who's done so much good this week,
Starting point is 00:09:42 we just wanted to get a gauge from you as to whether you thought this would work. So what we do is we hop on a golf cart. Yep. It's the charity drive. It's literal cam, okay? Yep. And then we drive the distance of New Zealand, 1600 kilometres from the top to the
Starting point is 00:09:57 bottom, and we drive around Mount Smart Stadium, non-stop. Sounds like you're going to need a few Red Bulls, boy. Yeah, it's going to take a while. I know a guy. You know a guy. I do it in shifts, but while we're doing so, we'll obviously try and raise as much awareness
Starting point is 00:10:12 and raise as much money as we can for the Red Cross. Yeah, that's a great idea, boys. I mean, any sort of support for them is great. Oh, well, thank you. We've got Cam. We've got Cam. He's a helpful guy. He's like, OK, this will work.
Starting point is 00:10:24 What day are you starting off? Because I might come up for a bit of a laugh. Oh, I think thank you. We've got Cam. We've got Cam. He's a helpful guy. He's like, okay, this will work. What day are you starting off? Because I might come up for a bit of a laugh. Oh, I think Wednesday all going well. We'll be trying to do that. And I imagine it'll take, from the look of it, probably still be going on Friday. But that's very small in comparison to what so many people have gone through and so many people are doing out there.
Starting point is 00:10:39 So we just want to do something to try and raise some money to help out some people. Yeah, definitely, definitely. Why don't you bring your tractor along too? You can do a couple of laps with us. Don't joke, I will. Hey, Cam, once again, mate, you really are one of the great New Zealanders helping out people not getting any sleep.
Starting point is 00:10:58 Very selfless act. And we thank you so much for everything you've done this week. No, that's right, boys. And, yeah, I just want to put a shout out to everyone who's down in Gisborne and Hawke's Bay and that if anyone needs help and support and you've got ability to go and help them, they're suffering pretty bad, especially all the growers and farmers down there. A lot of people I know through groundswell, they're doing it pretty tough.
Starting point is 00:11:17 Yep, and if you don't help them, what are they in your opinion? That's right, Cam. Take care of yourself, mate. That's the PC version. Thanks for everything you're doing We'll set up the donation portal As soon as we can as well To try and get some money Taking donations as well
Starting point is 00:11:32 The charity drive starts next week On the Hudson Easy Go Golf carts as well Are going to give us the golf carts A good drive around Yes thank you so much to Pete and Simon Who have been so generous Giving us the golf carts from Easy Go as well
Starting point is 00:11:43 Have a great weekend Cam You too boys Take care And thanks to Mount Smart Stadium Pete and Simon, who have been so generous giving us the golf carts from Easy Go as well. Have a great weekend, Cam. You too, boys. Take care. Thanks to Mount Smart Stadium for letting us do that next week. More details as they come to hand. The Hits, the Jono and Ben podcast. Now, Ben, we had a shocker yesterday. After the show, we went across the road and we went and got a coffee.
Starting point is 00:12:05 And then we arrived back into the office and there is a sea of you know sort of 22 people you came back first yeah and what happened well i came back first and then you know sort of they were in front of the studio where we we kind of go to walk in and they were in a sort of a group situation and i sort of walked into the back thinking oh someone's doing a bit of a speech it was one of our bosses and then they went oh good he looks all me he goes oh good Jono and Ben are here now and I'm like well it's just just me uh time to do the presentation and I sort of went oh and everyone sort of turned around and looked at me and I couldn't go you know because it's too far away five ten meters I couldn't go, you know, because it's too far away, five, ten metres. I couldn't go, the presentation? What?
Starting point is 00:12:45 What presentation? And you never want to look bad in front of 22 people you don't know. You don't know why they're there. Are we trying to sell them something? Are we trying to impress them? Are they radio school students? You don't know what the setting is or what you're meant to be presenting. So you're going in completely blind. Not knowing what's going on.
Starting point is 00:13:02 And you don't want to come across ill-prepared in front of these people. So you don't want to say to the bosses, what is this? Exactly. Yeah. Exactly. So you weren't there. I didn't know what to do. So I started to just ask some questions.
Starting point is 00:13:13 How's the tour been so far? Just to try and work out what was going on. And they went, it's great. We've just been to another radio station who got us to play this game as part of their presentation. I'm like, oh, God, we haven't prepared prepared anything like that we haven't been prepared for this moment so you're getting a vibe of what's happening and then what's running through you as a panic set in yeah panic yeah definitely and i so started to sort of mumble my way through a speech you know like things that i mean that i i love being on the hits it's a great place for us you know it's a great station but i
Starting point is 00:13:44 just kind of in that moment, just kind of rubbed. I don't know what this is or who these people are and why I'm talking to them. Rambled on as well. Well, then I came around the corner a bit later than you. And then I got a, here he is. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:56 And I was like, oh, here we go. You never want a here he is. Because then you're like, why? Why am I here? And I, at that moment, knew you were going through the same things that I was going through sort of five, ten minutes ago. Panic.
Starting point is 00:14:10 And then, look, again, I got the over to you. And I'm like, oh, dear God, what do I do? I don't know. Again, who are these people? And I figured, okay, I looked across the room. I scanned the room and I was like, okay, they're all quite young and they're all quite good looking. You said that, too, which is a bit weird. You're like, oh, you're all good looking. Everyone's like, okay, they're all quite young and they're all quite good looking. You said that too, which is a bit weird.
Starting point is 00:14:25 You're like, oh, you're all good looking. Everyone's like, oh, a bit creepy. I didn't know what else to say at that point. And who doesn't want to be called young and all good looking? It's a pretty good comment. I've never received either of those. When I wasn't young, I wasn't called good looking. And now I'm old, I'm not called good looking.
Starting point is 00:14:42 And then you called me out and you're like, oh, here we go with an hr complaint then it got a bit creepy towards the end so uh the good thing is being jono and ben from jono and ben the bar's been set low over the years no one's expecting a big presentation exactly and and the good thing was our bosses who are great knew that we were floundering and then sort of picked it up with you and then as they started to talk about the things the station were doing and all the things i was like oh that's that's what this is that's what this is all about one time i walked out of the studio there was a young guy there and i assumed arrogantly that he wanted a selfie with me and i picked him up and i put my arm around him and i said hello mate what you want you want to get into radio i was bending down talking to him and he was and I bullied him into a selfie.
Starting point is 00:15:25 I was like, hey, take a photo. Take a photo with your hair up. Okay? Took the photo and then he was like, oh, I'm just out here waiting for a meeting. Wasn't a fan. He's definitely not a fan now. I think what we should do is not be allowed out in the office. Don't be allowed with the general population.
Starting point is 00:15:40 Just locked in the soundproof room. The Hits, the Jono and Ben podcast. Obviously, earlier in the week, we got the family together overnight and kind of slept in the same room just for safety purposes, in case anything happened. And it was sort of a family sleepover situation.
Starting point is 00:16:00 And always, whenever these happen, I find myself stationed on the floor. Right. So I'm on the floor. Everyone's got bedding. I've dragged up Poppy's mattress. And Oscar, he takes my position on the top of the bed there. And the problem is we've got this foam mattress.
Starting point is 00:16:20 And it's a foam mattress. It's lost the will to yeah to be a foam mattress anymore it's just been slept i don't god knows what's going on i've had that mattress in many many years the stuff that's happened on this mattress no wonder it's giving up on it uh and so i'm living out so the dog's half eaten it i just it's lived outside for a number of years and so i've been sleeping on this mattress all week because haven't been bothered to pack down the whole sleepover situation it's kind of just continuing on although i wouldn't imagine it would worry you because you just sleep anywhere anytime
Starting point is 00:16:54 i do yeah like i've had all the people i'd be worried about getting good night's sleep you're not one of them because i'm like he's he'll fall asleep like we stopped talking to him for 10 minutes he'd fall asleep now i just got to keep the mouth moving we're actually just reflecting on a flight we took didn't we uh where we couldn't there was a tiny plane like a four-seater plane and the weather was atrocious it was white out you couldn't see anything and you're like you slept I slept I was I was scared and you slept yeah I had a good sleep anyway i know the uh a lot of people will be making insurance claims now but what's happened after five days of sleeping on this this wafer thin mattress is i'm going to be making some big chiropractic chiropractor claims been
Starting point is 00:17:34 okay my back's out my back's out i know there's bigger issues at the moment then old then old jake's sleeping on a thin mattress but i'm dealing with this right now okay the hits the jonathan ben podcast 660 before you leave you're on the hits jonathan ben 728 might be a new harry potter film coming out for harry potter fans uh there's a stage show harry potter and the cursed child which has gone really really well overseas uh which is about harry potter when he's about his son going to harvard's son is's got a son. Is Harry Potter having a midlife crisis now? He's like, mate, it's all gone. I've lost the magic touch.
Starting point is 00:18:10 Trying to find where he sits in life. But no, about his son. Yeah, so they reckon all going well and they might get the old gang back together again and make a new movie. But is his son named Harry Potter or is he Gary Potter? No, but Harry Potter's still in there, but he's got a son who's gone to Hogwarts as well. But, you know, he's in there as well. Harry Potter's just like Gary Potter no but Harry Potter is still in there but he's got a son who's gone to Hogwarts
Starting point is 00:18:25 as well but you know he's in there as well Harry Potter's just oh bloody cost of living nine man mortgage repayments he's just dealing
Starting point is 00:18:32 with everyday issues that's what you want right only when magic can make that stuff go away obviously earlier in the week we got the family
Starting point is 00:18:41 together overnight and kind of slept in the same room just for safety purposes in case anything happened. And it was sort of a family sleepover situation. And always whenever these happen, I find myself stationed on the floor. Right. So I'm on the floor.
Starting point is 00:19:00 Everyone's got bedding. I drag up Poppy's mattress. And Oscar, he takes my position on the top of the bed there. And the problem is we've got this foam mattress, you know, and it's a foam mattress that's just lost the will to be a foam mattress anymore. It's just been slept on. God knows what's gone on. I've had that mattress many, many years.
Starting point is 00:19:23 The stuff that's happened on this mattress. No wonder it's giving up on it. And so I'm living out here. So the dog's half eaten it. It's lived outside for a number of years. And so I've been sleeping on this mattress all week because I haven't been bothered to pack down the whole sleepover situation. It's kind of just continuing on.
Starting point is 00:19:43 Although I wouldn't imagine it would worry you because you just sleep anywhere, anytime. I do. Yeah, I know. You do. Like out of all the people I'd be worried about getting good night's sleep, you're not one of them
Starting point is 00:19:52 because I'm like, he's full of sleep. Like we stopped talking to him for 10 minutes, he's full of sleep now. I've just got to keep the mouth moving. We were actually just reflecting on a flight we took, didn't we? Where we couldn't, it was a tiny plane,
Starting point is 00:20:04 like a four-seater plane, and the weather was atrocious, it was white out, you couldn't see anything, and you were like, you slept. You slept, I was scared, and you slept. You're like, oh yeah, I had a good sleep. Anyway, I know the, a lot of people will be making insurance claims
Starting point is 00:20:20 now, but what's happened after five days of sleeping on this wafer-thin mattress, is i'm going to be making some big chiropractic chiropractic claims been okay my back's out my back's out i know there's bigger issues at the moment then old then old jake sleeping on a thin mattress but i'm dealing with this right now okay well there is bigger issues out there and we'll tell you how you can help out next we're going to do something big next week to try and raise some money we need your help to get on board to raise some money for those affected.
Starting point is 00:20:48 We'll tell you what's going on after Lifehouse, you and me on The Hits. The Hits, the Jono and Ben podcast. We'll sing more of them again this morning in the news. And we wanted to do something, as does all of New Zealand right now. So we're going to try and raise some money next week for the Red Cross by doing a charity drive, a literal charity drive. Yeah, on a golf cart. Travelling the distance of Aotearoa,
Starting point is 00:21:12 which is 1,600km from Kaipareanga to Bluff, and doing that in Mount Smart Stadium, round and round and round, raising money for the Red Cross. It's thanks to Easy Go Golf Carts too, Pete and Simon, who have given us a bunch of golf carts. And we're going to start Wednesday, and we're going to stop when we reach 1,600 k's.
Starting point is 00:21:31 Yeah, the whole time, as you said, raising money for the New Zealand Disaster Fund, for the New Zealand Red Cross. Doing it as well, we're going to set up a line very shortly. Hopefully you can make some text donations as well and try and raise as much money as we can, because a lot of people right around the country are doing it really tough at the moment.
Starting point is 00:21:46 Yeah, including a lot of businesses too. Don't tell the sales department because Ed's Jono and Ben's win an ad. Yes, we give away the lifeblood of this radio station. You know, this is like the colonel saying, you know what, I'm going to send out a group email with the 11 herbs and spices. We're handing away our precious advertising space free of charge, Ben.
Starting point is 00:22:10 Yeah, win an ad is something that we like to do, but we don't like to tell the person that they won an ad until we surprise them live on the air. Yeah, and that's probably what they want. They don't love that too much, but we do. We're going to go through to a hairdresser here. Welcome to Harrington West. Robbie speaking.
Starting point is 00:22:34 Hi, Robbie. It's Jono and Ben from The Hits. Who, sorry? Jono and Ben from The Hits. Who is it really? It's Jono and Ben. The more I say it, the less confident I feel that I am Jono and Ben from The Hits. No, we are. Who is it really? It's Jono and Ben. The more I say it, the less confident I feel that I am Jono and Ben from the Hits. No, we are. Who? Jono and
Starting point is 00:22:50 Ben. Jono and Ben from the Hits. What can I do for you, Jono and Ben? Now, from the Hits. From the Hits. From the Hits, thank you. Now, we know businesses, they've been doing it tough lately. Headdressers? Well, just businesses in general around the country, you know.
Starting point is 00:23:06 It's been a tough time. So we wanted to give away some advertising right now on our show where you can plug your business. Oh, really? Yeah. You might want to speak to Sam about that. We're talking to you, mate. It's Jono and Ben from The Hits, and we're talking to you.
Starting point is 00:23:23 Hello, Sam speaking. Sam, it's Jono and Ben from The Hits. Who? Jono and Ben from The Hits. Hi. Hi. How are you doing? Do you realize that businesses are doing it tough lately, right?
Starting point is 00:23:39 Yeah. And so what we're doing is offering a free service where you can win an ad with Jono and Ben from The Hits. We're just calling numbers at random, and then basically you can just plug anything for your business right now on the radio. Okay, Sam. I don't want to do it, but I'll get Robbie to do it. Oh, gosh.
Starting point is 00:23:57 Hang on, hang on. Did you do it? Okay, what do you want me to do? Robbie, Robbie, guess who it is. It's Jono and Ben. From the hits. From the hits. All right.
Starting point is 00:24:08 Here we go, Robbie. Don't tell the sales department because it's Jono and Ben's winning ad. You just fill in the blanks, Robbie. Have you heard about one of the Kiwi businesses at the... Harrington West. Famous for its popular... Hairdressingressing We're amazing And don't forget the crowd favourite
Starting point is 00:24:29 Oh, Jono and Ben Now we're the favourites Okay, yeah, but I was more about what you guys do But it's great for us to get a plug We don't have favourites here, everyone's amazing But wait, there's more Because that's not even the best thing about them Let me tell you about it right now.
Starting point is 00:24:47 We do amazing hair, colours and extensions. And who could forget their catchy slogan? No, we don't. We don't. Just Harrington West. So the slogan is no, we don't. Harrington West. Oh no, don't put that. And their wonderful staff, who sometimes like to reveal a secret about themselves live on the radio. What's our secret, Sam?
Starting point is 00:25:14 Oh, we actually do have a minor celebrity working here. Ooh! Who's the minor celebrity? You need to come in to see. It's about filming. It's a non-disclosure order, you know? Ooh! Oh, Jason Momoa.
Starting point is 00:25:30 I know Aquaman's in the country at the moment. He's got lovely hair. So make sure you check out... Harrington West. Yeah, Harrington West. Yeah. We are on the corner of Harrington Ave and West Street in Pukekohe.
Starting point is 00:25:45 Love your work. This has been an absolute rollercoaster. We are on the corner of Harrington Ave and West Street in Pukekohe. Love your work. This has been an absolute rollercoaster. It has been a bit of a rollercoaster. I can agree with that. You keep safe out there, all right? All right, you too, guys. See you.
Starting point is 00:25:56 Bye. The Hits, the Jono and Ben podcast. Let's go. Jono and Ben with five words for 5K. Stop any time to keep the cash. Thank you. Or play on to win more. It's our Game of Words Association.
Starting point is 00:26:11 You could win $5,000. Haven't had a winner for a while in this game, so it'd be nice to give some money away today. It's the monies just sitting there, begging to be taken. Please take me away from, put me in your wallet. And that's all we want to do. If it was up to us, we'd give away $5,000 every morning. But it's up to you, and you make it very hard for us to do so.
Starting point is 00:26:31 We'll go to Pat in New Plymouth. Welcome to the show, Pat. Good morning. Great. You ready to get the party started? Yes, but I'm not very good at it, but I'll give it my best shot. 7.49am, it's too early to get the party started, but Pat's ready. You've played at home. Have you matched all five words while you've been playing and listening?
Starting point is 00:26:50 No, I've got to about the third or the fourth word, so I'll give it my best shot today. Well, if you've done that in the past, just know when you need to pull out, Pat. It's our constant messaging at the moment. Okay, thank you. All right. Sheila, I'm not listening to you. No, no, no. Again, Ben, the message is not getting across.
Starting point is 00:27:07 Okay, Pat, who do you want to send into the soundproof booth? I'll send Ben to the booth. Ben's off to the booth, holding his breath inside the booth, smelling him a little musty in there at the moment. What are you doing today in New Plymouth there, Pat? I'm property manager for Property Scout, so I'll be doing some inspections and doing a lot of maintenance work for the trees and fences and other things that have gone bump on Tuesday.
Starting point is 00:27:31 Yeah, right. Watch out if you're in one of Pat's rentals. She's coming for you today. All right, let's get five words out of you, Pat. Here we go. Thank you. Scrambled. Egg.
Starting point is 00:27:45 Wrong is word number two. Is that W-R-O-N-G? That is R-I-G-H-T. Yeah, that is right. Yes, I'll say right for wrong. Television. Oh, I'm not too sure on that one. You want to come back to television, Pat?
Starting point is 00:28:06 Program. Television program, perfect. Bus is the fourth word for you. Bus. B-U-S. Transport. And apple, the fifth and final word for the wonderful Pat. Pie.
Starting point is 00:28:23 Apple pie. One of my favourite forms of pie, the apple pie apple pie will get boys out of the soundproof booth pat manages some properties there ben she's going around inspecting uh some rentals today oh nice just gonna say we've got producer joel 20 22 year old joel definitely don't let him into one of your flats no is there Is there any flats going up in Auckland that you have? I don't know about Auckland but we've got a couple in Taranaki. Listen, I wouldn't even punish you with putting Joel into one of your properties.
Starting point is 00:28:54 Him and his derelict friends. But Pat, let's see if you can match five words with producer Ben, that's right. I produce now. Thank you. Word one, $25. Ben, what do you think Pat would have said when I said scrambled? Scrambled eggs.
Starting point is 00:29:13 $25 there, Patty. What are we doing? I think we'll go for the next one, please. Word two, $50. Word number two, wrong. Right? Oh, there's $50. Word number two, wrong. Right? Oh, there's 50. That's a 50 coming through to you, Pat.
Starting point is 00:29:32 How are you feeling? Nervous. Are we going on? Yes, please. Word three, $100. Now, this is Patty's average. Usually gets to word three or four. Television. Television.
Starting point is 00:29:47 Television. Jesus, Pat, a bit of focus from you, mate. Program? Oh, Pat! $100. We're going to go for pro. See, she didn't listen to you, Jello. She's swept up in the madness.
Starting point is 00:30:03 Fair enough. Word four. $500. Bus. Bus. B-U-S. Driver? Oh.
Starting point is 00:30:18 Oh. Sorry. Patty. Patty. Patty, Patty, Patty, Patty. That's all right. Sorry. What did she saydy. Paddy, Paddy, Paddy, Paddy. That's all right. Sorry. What did she say?
Starting point is 00:30:28 She said bus transport, Ben. Yeah, transport. It's a wonderful mode of transport. And what would you have said if I said apple? Pie? Oh, no. Stick that wind wand where the sun don't shine in New Plymouth. I'll bet it be shining today.
Starting point is 00:30:46 Almost compatible. I'm so sorry, Pat. All right, Patty. Thank you. You go look after yourself. Have a great weekend. Last year I was talking about my daughter, Sienna, wanting Snapchat, and I sort of held her off for some time.
Starting point is 00:31:02 Even though I'm on social media, not against social media, I just wasn't sure entirely the Snapchat situation, like a lot of parents. I love doing that too. I'm like, get off your bloody devices while I'm there. My big ugly face is staring at Hasbulla on Instagram or something. Get off there. Get outside.
Starting point is 00:31:19 What are you doing? Let Dad scroll in peace. I've got some fun videos I need to send to my friend Ben. Do you even like my fun videos? I do like your fun videos. They always come up. They're the only ones that message me. I do appreciate it.
Starting point is 00:31:31 So thank you. It's nice. That's happening while I'm ignoring my children. My daughter Sienna's like, why don't I get Snapchat? Why don't I keep in touch with my friends and all that? And I'm like, I understand that. But now that she's got it and had it for a little while,
Starting point is 00:31:43 I confronted her about all the things I see her do. I'm like, is this how you're meant to use it? Snapchat, you've got it. Yes, I do, finally. You finally got it. Finally. And was the purpose of Snapchat to send 29 different photos of your face with 29 different angles of your tongue and face?
Starting point is 00:32:01 Just, you know, just all your friends. Is that why you wanted it? Because your friends are like, I don't know what your face looks like with your tongue on that angle. Yes, of course. And also it's to keep up snap streaks. It's to have best friend lists. It's to know where you are.
Starting point is 00:32:13 It's just chat. It's just snap. Snapchat. It just seems to you, like, tell me why. Why should you have it? You've got it, but why? I just don't understand why we've done this. It's a great way to connect with people.
Starting point is 00:32:26 I sound like I'm on an ad. It's a great way to connect with people all over the world. I could add someone from America. Yeah, but you wouldn't because that's why that's strange danger. Yeah, that's strange danger. But they can't just randomly add me. Sounds like it's not a good idea. I can decline. If you're adding people from America, that in, like, yeah. So anyway. Well, it sounds like it's not a good idea, right? I can decline.
Starting point is 00:32:45 Well, if you're adding people from America, that's not going to happen. So there you go. Yeah, that's, that's, yeah. So I'm like, well, what's, what's the point? She just sends, but anyway, that's what they do. Oh, that's, and my son, he's on it too, and they just take photos of ceilings. And there's just so many roof, he's like, it's roof shots, bro. It's made me all self-conscious about our ceiling, like if we need to keep, if it's getting out there and then,
Starting point is 00:33:05 like, and it just feels, like this is taking a valuable internet space, guys. This is clogging up such a great platform. You know, when they invented the internet, were they like, oh, some 13-year-old girl's going to take multiple angles of her face and take these pointless photos of ceilings? Yeah, I know.
Starting point is 00:33:21 I feel like my parents are going, not quite understanding it. I'm all for social media, but now I'm like, what is, anyway. I always try the shock factor with them.
Starting point is 00:33:30 I'm like, kids, do you know there was an experiment done where these kids were on devices and the parents said, I'm going out now
Starting point is 00:33:38 and the kids weren't paying attention and then it took them three hours to figure out where their parents were. Do you know that? And it doesn't shock them anymore.
Starting point is 00:33:47 And I'm even trying to add more time to it. I was like, six and a half hours. They didn't even notice. 30 days. They even start on their story. And they're like, this is about the experiment. You know, 13 hours. They didn't notice their parents were gone.
Starting point is 00:34:00 So, hey, that's bloody addictive though, isn't it? It would be better to get the kids into vaping. Oh, jeez, no. It'd be healthier, honestly. The Hits, the Jono and Ben podcast. The Hits, cash and car.
Starting point is 00:34:15 If you want to take home the amazing Skoda and all the cash in the back of it, then you need to guess exactly how much cash is in the back of that Skoda
Starting point is 00:34:23 Kamek Monte Carlo and you could be winning both. Cash Keeper Alex joins us again, who was apparently driving around in the car yesterday. Spotted. Caught red-handed using the free petrol in the cash machine car. So the Cash Keeper role comes with a company vehicle. Company car. Well, it doesn't actually. I got kind of smuggled the keys last night before I left work.
Starting point is 00:34:44 So we can't now say it's a brand new car. Well, we won't give away that one. Yeah. Okay. If you want to use a brand new Skoda, then we will be giving away another one from the lot now. We're just mowing through Skodas. Can I take one home?
Starting point is 00:34:59 We'll give away another one. Then you can call us 0800 the Hisslow Genevieve Hiss. Welcome. How are you, Genevieve? Thank you, hello. Good to have you on, mate. How'd the week treat you? Did you get affected badly? Only a little bit with a couple of branches, but nothing
Starting point is 00:35:14 major, so really lucky. And when you see that stuff on the news, it's like, wow. It's very sobering, isn't it? Actually, we'll tell you shortly what we're going to try and do next week to raise some money for the New Zealand Red Cross. In the meantime, though, let's try and raise you a car and some cash in the boot. We're going to hand you over to cashkeeper Alex,
Starting point is 00:35:31 and also car thief Alex, for you to have your guess. That's not what happened. Genevieve, what is your guess for how much cash is in that car? I think it's $20,145.32. Genevieve from Auckland with a guess of $20,145.32. That is not correct. But you've been following the clues.
Starting point is 00:36:01 Yes. Good to hear, Genevieve. I'm so sorry. What we do know... I'll try again. Oh, Genevieve. I'm so sorry. What we do know... I'll try again. Oh, Genevieve, we know it's more than last year's Big Total
Starting point is 00:36:10 and there was another confusing clue that was on Instagram that completely escapes me. Watch, we're Joel and we think we've, Patricia Joel, we've worked that out,
Starting point is 00:36:18 but hey, we can't say probably. was on the same wavelengths as well. Yeah, right. Genevieve, what's up this weekend, mate? Oh, nothing.
Starting point is 00:36:27 Just seeing what's happened in the garden and tidying up a bit. So, yeah. Trimming back the grizzly ears, eh? Definitely. All right. Well, you have a wonderful weekend. Keep safe out there and thank you for listening, okay? Cash and Card back at 11 o'clock.
Starting point is 00:36:41 And of course, you can have a stab on the iHeartRadio app as well. Yeah, we could be calling you back to play Cash and Card. The H course, you can have a stab on the iHeartRadio app as well. Yeah, we could be calling you back to play cash in card. The Hits, the Jono and Ben podcast. It's crazy in love. It is The Hits. Jono and Ben,
Starting point is 00:36:53 8.16 on your Friday morning. Thinking of everyone affected by Cyclone Gabriel. Still thousands of people without power. Thousands of people still can't get hold of family or friends.
Starting point is 00:37:03 It's a really, really scary situation. So our hearts go out to everyone. And next week we wanted to help out. Yeah, and it's because I'm sure like everyone listening now, you don't go through your day without thinking about the poor people affected sort of every couple of minutes. And Ben, we were like, what can we do?
Starting point is 00:37:20 What can we do? We've got no skills. We're not practical. I mean, you call hire a hubby to turn the hose on yeah don't you i've been driving around with i think three wheels on my car for two weeks now just ignoring the noise so nothing practical we can do but we thought maybe we can hopefully raise a bit of money for the new zealand red cross so we're going to go on a charity drive next week uh a literal charity drive so So thanks to Easy Go Golf Carts.
Starting point is 00:37:46 Pete and Simon there have come to the party. They've given us golf carts. Mount Smart Stadium have said, yes, you can do it here. And what we're going to do is we're going to drive the distance of Aotearoa, which is 1600 kilometres
Starting point is 00:37:58 if you go from Bluff to Cape Reanga. We're going to drive that round and round Mount Smart Stadium. God knows how long it's going to take. We've done the calculations, but they mean nothing. They're not scientific. Days, days. And, yeah, hopefully raise some money through this charity drive next week.
Starting point is 00:38:13 Yeah, the whole time raising money for New Zealand Disaster Fund for the New Zealand Red Cross. So we'll get a fair text line up and running today so we can start getting some donations in and really love to raise a whole heap of money for people that need it yeah like uh laura who's with us now from the hawks bay how are you holding up mate um yeah that's about it oh i can't imagine your place was affected yeah um i woke up to a big tree in my front lawn oh geez oh dude no power for i imagine how many days yeah i've had no power.
Starting point is 00:38:45 I don't even know what day it is anymore. But whenever I do it. Oh, my goodness. It's just heartbreaking to hear from you and see the stories on the news and stuff. It's just really rare thinking of everyone. Yeah, really sad to see. I haven't actually seen too much. I can't go anywhere.
Starting point is 00:39:01 But, yeah, the stories that people are saying, it's really sad. Why can't you go anywhere? I've got no petrol. I don't have enough to sit and wait in the line. Have you got food? No. The neighbours are amazing. The neighbours drop in stuff.
Starting point is 00:39:18 Because I heard that there's F-posters down and people trying to get cash, but then there's only a limited amount of cash at the moment and there's no gas and food coming in as regularly. It's really tough. It's a pain for money or anything. Yeah, it's a pain. And how are your friends and family? Have you spoken to anyone?
Starting point is 00:39:36 I'm still trying to get in touch with some that are out of town. Sorry, in this country. But my family's out of town in Marseille. Oh so you haven't been able to speak to, what, some friends you can't get hold of? Yeah, no I can't get hold of them. It must be, yeah, I imagine a lot of people in very similar position. Yeah, there will be more missing, all of that. Yeah, and you've just got to sit alone in your home and think about that.
Starting point is 00:40:05 I mean, it's, yeah. Yeah. Well, I put a hammock in my tree so I can sit in the sun. That's nice. Hammocks? You don't get into hammocks enough nowadays, do you? I mean, it's probably not an ideal situation to get into a hammock, but, I mean, they're useful.
Starting point is 00:40:21 It was relaxing. It was good. It's always hard getting in and out, but once you're in there, great. great i feel the older i get the harder it is to get out of a habit you know you start making that groaning noise and you're like oh god i've reached this stage in life uh and so what do you want to say to the rest of new zealand um just think of us um it's about it really yeah and it's yeah we've mentioned this the other day that at some point the news coverage will slowly fade out, but these people are still going to be
Starting point is 00:40:50 dealing with the clean-up of this and it's a massive, massive clean-up by the looks on the news. People were still getting rescued last night, so I'm not overly sure how long it's going to go on for. We were saying, when the cyclone was coming, there was a lot of focus on northland and auckland was hawks bay ever i don't know i think it kind of went it's slightly in a different direction than what they first thought it would
Starting point is 00:41:14 yeah so yeah pretty much hey listen well i i really hope you do get in touch with your friends uh maybe hey if you want to use this platform now to shout out their names, someone might know them listening and they might have spoken to them. Yeah, if anyone's heard from Ruth Horrocks and Ryan Clark and Car Toker I'd love to know. That would be amazing. Alright, well give us
Starting point is 00:41:38 a call. You can give us a call on 0800THEHITS and we'll get back in touch with you if we hear anything. Thank you. Thinking of you, take care of yourself and yeah, I know it must be just so difficult right now. We really are thinking of you. Sending lots of love. Thank you. The Hits, the Jono and Ben podcast.
Starting point is 00:41:54 Hey 26, on your Friday morning we just had Laura on from Hawke's Bay. She was looking for her friends Ruth and Ryan and I think she's back on now. Good morning Laura. Hello. In the moments that we've just spoken to you, what's happened?
Starting point is 00:42:11 I've had word that my friends are okay. Oh, that's so good. We're so pleased. Yeah, so am I. I haven't heard from them directly, but I've heard from people that have heard from them. So if anyone knows Ruth and Ryan, they're okay. Oh, that's good. Well, one less thing to worry about for you.
Starting point is 00:42:25 One less. Yeah, well, you keep safe out there, mate. The rest of the country is thinking of you. A lot of people doing a lot to try and raise money to help everyone in the Hawke's Bay and Gisborne. All right, thank you. See you, mate. Oh, that was awesome.
Starting point is 00:42:39 We connected some people through the power of radio. Thank you so much for helping out New Zealand. The Hits, the Jono and Ben Podcast Coming back on a plane a few days ago a very short flight back up to Auckland You were stuck
Starting point is 00:42:52 in Palmerston North became the unofficial spokesperson for Palmerston North Went to Wellington for a night as well Spent a lot of time saying he was going
Starting point is 00:42:59 to move his family there however has ended up back where he's living We're looking into it you can't just up and move a whole, you know. Just checking the market there. That's right. We'll get there. Did you look at the clock tower?
Starting point is 00:43:12 My issue with the clock tower, and yours too, was the clock tower in the centre of Palmerston North for many years was five minutes behind. I think it's all fixed now. Oh, they fixed the clock tower? Yeah, it's all done, mate. It's all happening. The boys came there. It's all happening, mate. Fixed the clock tower.
Starting point is 00:43:26 I need to know what time it is. But I'm on a plane back from Wellington, sitting there, and straight away, just sitting behind someone, they recline their seat. Now, I know not every flight has reclining seat options. A lot of times it doesn't happen on domestic flights. But this particular one did. Straight away, we recline. Back onto you. you i'm like that is a power play early on it's asserting a lot
Starting point is 00:43:50 of dominance isn't it but a lot of yeah and it also signifies you're ready to combat anyone if any other passengers objective you know object like if you'd said something a recliner they're ready for battle they're not going to step down now the problem is that you're reclining the back of their seat is just three to four centimetres away from your face then, isn't it? And I feel like I need to recline, but I didn't because I didn't want to be that person to pass it on to the person behind me.
Starting point is 00:44:14 So I just sat there with the reclined seat in front of me going the whole time, why is this a thing? Like, why is the reclining seat? Either recline them all or don't recline them. Well, it's up to the airline to take control because if the function's there, then people are able to use it. You know, and you can't begrudge them for using it. But it's a legal maneuver.
Starting point is 00:44:32 Why would they have the button if they don't want people using the recline? Yeah, but it's one of those maneuvers. I'm like, don't do it. I mean, you know me. I don't like confrontation. You've been on a plane before where I haven't said anything, and that wasn't even a reclining seat situation. We went on a flight, and I haven't said anything, and that wasn't even a reclining seat situation.
Starting point is 00:44:48 We went on a flight, and you were in the aisle seat. This was a longer flight too, wasn't it? And we were putting our bags above the overhead locker, and there was the guy who was sitting in your seat. I know it was your seat. You knew it was your seat. And you said to him, oh, oh, oh. You know, you did the faux confused, something's gone wrong here performance. I did. Oh, you seem, I think you did the faux confused, something's gone wrong here performance.
Starting point is 00:45:05 I did. Oh, you seem, I think you might be in my seat. And he just came back with, nah, this is mine. And you're like, oh, and then you looked at your ticket again. Oh, oh, and then you said, oh, no, I think this, mine might be the aisle. And he's like, it's not how I read it. Yeah, and of course I'm looking at the sign going,
Starting point is 00:45:24 this is the thing, there's an aisle, this is the middle. He's like, nah. And then I had to clamber over it. Well, I didn't have to. He wouldn't even get out of the seat. Yeah, well, he just sat there. And when you needed to go to the toilet in the flight, he still wouldn't get out of the seat.
Starting point is 00:45:35 You had to climb over it. It was a power play. It was a power play. Gee whiz, he seemed like a fun, reasonable guy, didn't he? The whole time, I bet you were just sitting in silence going, thinking of things that you should have said to him in that moment. guy, didn't he? The whole time I bet you were just sitting in silence going, thinking of things that you should have said to him in that moment. But I didn't.
Starting point is 00:45:48 Because if you called over a steward too, you would have looked petty. And that's what they prey on. They're hoping on the fact that this person isn't going to have the confidence to cause a storm. So 0800 the Hits, this is what we want to open up this morning. Power plays.
Starting point is 00:46:03 Yeah. Some of the best power plays that you've seen. I mean, I witnessed someone, we're in a group dinner situation, without a word, not even a conversation with the group, just reached in and grabbed the last bit of garlic bread. Oh, not even a like, does anyone want this? No, because you know what we all do as New Zealanders, we all go, oh, you have it.
Starting point is 00:46:23 No, you have it. You have it. And then we all just passive aggressively refuse to have it and leave a solo piece of garlic bread on there until the waiter comes along and the waiter's like are you sure? Does anyone want it? Sometimes you let that garlic bread go and you know you
Starting point is 00:46:35 wanted it, but you don't want to make a scene. Yeah, this person just straight on in grabbed that light and I was like, that is powerful. What's a power play that some people use in day toto-day life? Feet on desk when you're in a meeting. Yeah. Crossed feet on desk.
Starting point is 00:46:49 Hands behind head. We've had some bosses with that over the time. Under the hits, 4487, your everyday power play. Maybe you do one. Maybe you've had one done to you. We'd love to have your calls and texts next. The Hits, the Jono and Ben podcast. Everyday power play, the big big move the big boss move that
Starting point is 00:47:06 some people make from time to time but maybe they don't intentionally do it people like driveway parkers some people just love a driveway park i love pulling into a driveway and parking in there you like to park four blocks away i'm not a driver confrontational person uh and this came into play when you're flying back from well earlier in the week where someone, you sat down, boom, straight into recline mode. And the thing with reclining on a plane too is it's not offering you much recline. No, you're right. You get a four to five centimetres recline. Not making a world of a difference.
Starting point is 00:47:38 But Chris is with us on the phone and he might have a bit of a solution to your reclining problem. Well, essentially, if someone's reclining into you, pass it on. You know, pay it forward slash backwards. Or pay it backwards. Yeah, pay it backwards. I see. So you reckon it's kind of like dominoes, isn't it? When someone reclines, you kind of always feel you need to, but I resisted. Do you think I need to just do it?
Starting point is 00:47:59 I think you need to do it because at the end of the day as well, you get more footroom too. If the person in front of you is leaning back, their feet aren't under their seat. So now you've got foot room under their seat and you've leant backwards. Oh, you've just created that extra sort of five or six centimetres that is required. The problem is if everyone ends up doing it,
Starting point is 00:48:17 the poor bugger in 39B is dealing with the result. Well, that's a $5 issue, mate. Yeah, true. Those are the real cheap Well, that's a $5 issue, mate. Every new seat, you know. Yeah, true. Those are the real cheap seats, aren't they? No, not only are they crammed in front of the toilet, then they've got everyone's seat reclining back on them. Yeah, that's it, mate.
Starting point is 00:48:33 Well, good on you, mate. Good solution. Yeah, good solution. Beautiful. You have a great day. All right. Cheers, lads. Thanks, Chris.
Starting point is 00:48:40 Someone's texting saying, my boss, very powerful. Very powerful she is And she always Chucks out the I beg to differ Someone says I beg to differ Yeah it's a good power play
Starting point is 00:48:52 You could come back And go We'll beg then Try it out Power the power play We'll get Sandy on You're a Napier Sandy Hello
Starting point is 00:49:00 Hello Oh jeez How are you going Doing okay Thank you I'm very lucky Just still no power, jeez, how are you going? I'm doing okay, thank you. I'm very lucky, just still no power. Oh, jeez. For me, but, yeah, just trying to help out where we can
Starting point is 00:49:12 because I can't get to work because the bridges have closed. Yeah, it's a pretty sad state of affairs, really. Oh, I imagine some restless, restless nights, mate. Yes, yes. Well, thank you for phoning through for our very light boner topic compared to what you're going through right now. Power plays, what have you got? When somebody hogs the food while watching the movie
Starting point is 00:49:37 and takes control of the remote. Oh, yes. People with a remote, that's a powerful situation. Do you know, Sandy, someone came to Ben's house and they picked up the remote. Yeah, like just, they were the guests in the house and they grabbed the remote. Yeah, that's what happens to me because I live alone.
Starting point is 00:49:56 People, that's your house. Sandy, you're in charge of the remote. That's what I thought the unwritten law was, but hey. Well, one would think. Are you alone right now, Sandy? Yes, well, just me and my pooch, yeah. Oh, mate, I honestly hope you're doing all right. Is there anything you need?
Starting point is 00:50:14 No, I'm all good, thank you. Yeah, honestly, I'm just very, very fortunate and very lucky. So, yeah, all I can moan about is no power. Well, you keep safe. And, yeah, we're trying to do a charity drive next week. We're going to drive the distance of New Zealand in a golf cart, 1,600 kilometres, to try and raise money for the Red Cross. Right.
Starting point is 00:50:39 Ooh. Danny's got a lot going on at the moment. Us sitting in a golf cart for a few days, it really pales in comparison, but you have a great day. You too, thank you. All right, keep safe. Those are the power play calls. Someone else has just mentioned parking and loading zones.
Starting point is 00:50:57 Oh, yeah, that's a good one. I love parking and loading zones. Yeah, you put your hazards on and run on in. E5s, taxi stands, you name it. The Hits, the stands, you name it. We're seeing all the heartbreaking footage on the news and hearing the stories on air, on the radio and on social media this week.
Starting point is 00:51:14 We wanted to do something to help. So next week we're doing a charity drive. On an easy go golf cart, we're travelling the distance of New Zealand, round and round around Mount Smart Stadium. And we're going to be raising money for the Red Cross disaster relief. And we're going to have a text number set up on Monday. And bang, away you go.
Starting point is 00:51:31 Try and get as much cash as we can. We're going to run those golf carts out of juice and run your wallets out of cash to help those in need. Because we were saying earlier this morning, it's a big village, New Zealand, isn't it? And it's time for those village idiots to step up and do something. Ben, you and me are the idiots. Yeah, not everyone else. That's not a way you can try and get some money out of people.
Starting point is 00:51:53 But, yeah, we really want to help everyone out because those stories really affected us this week. I tried to exit out the back, so I had to get my kids to walk over all the broken glass. These families, they've literally lost like everything. One of the hardest parts of this disaster was that no one could get in touch with anybody. Didn't get a lot of sleep last night. You had the mind going?
Starting point is 00:52:29 Yeah. I'm on the streetlights shining. I'm a wild light blinding bright burning off alone. Some colleagues, their houses have been completely destroyed. A big oak tree fell on their house, and they can't get into Hastings because the roads are that bad. It's times like these you learn to love again It's times like these time and time again Just come back in from rescuing someone else
Starting point is 00:53:15 who attempted to drive through the floodwaters. Hey, I'm a new day rising I'm a brand new sky to hang the stars upon tonight The extended plan that we haven't been in touch with, it's a little bit worrying. I'm a little divided Do I stay or run away and leave it all behind? I ran straight upstairs because I could hear my kids screaming. We rescued one person and we had to pull him off the top of a fence. It's times like these you learn to live and give.
Starting point is 00:54:00 It's times like these you give and give again It's times like these you learn to love again It's times like these, time and time again Some of the Hits family from Hawke's Bay, Adam and Megan. And you start to hear all of the really traumatic stories that are happening out there. It has really started to hit home and we know everyone else who's dealing with it will be feeling exactly the same. But I have been taking a lot of people in, stories of people that have been in cars, tents in backyards and whatever accommodation they can find. We'll make it better together, we'll make a better life.
Starting point is 00:54:41 Because pressure is ever upon us every night. And every day so we pray and we will forever fight. We'll make it better together. We'll make a better life. I'm a one way motorway. I'm the one that drives away and follows you back home. I think that's one thing that Hawke's Bay's found. We went through some floods a couple of years ago
Starting point is 00:55:10 and everyone got stuck in and helped and went to their neighbours and looked after each other. It's a great region to be in for that. So I know it's going to be one hell of a clean-up. Rest assured that people are going to be out there getting stuck in and helping each other. to love again It's times like these time and time again It's times like these
Starting point is 00:55:51 you learn to love again Hey, our hearts go out to everyone affected by Cyclone Gabrielle and as we said next week, we want to raise a whole lot of money for the Red Cross
Starting point is 00:56:00 to help out those in need. More details as they come to hand. It is the hits you got, Jono and Ben.
