Starting point is 00:00:00 The hits with the Jono and Ben podcast. Cheers to Dilma, making the world a better team. The big winner yesterday at the VMAs, the video awards going on for music. These are the fun ones. These are the ones that Miley got her tongue out and the big pointy finger. That's the Kanye storming the stage one. The MTV ones, right? The MTV VMAs.
Starting point is 00:00:22 What is video, if you could just explain? No reference to the video. Well, you know, they make video versions of the songs. But yeah, no, Taylor Swift was there. Obviously, you were saying the camera never left her. I kind of thought of a bad for her the whole time. It was like, here's Taylor Swift's reaction to Katy Perry. Here's her reaction to Eminem.
Starting point is 00:00:40 You know, it was like a camera was locked on. Actually, she had a great time. She had great reactions to everyone. But that's why, because she has great reactions but it's like let the poor lady like at least film for a little bit and then film someone else i imagine she's smiling the whole time i imagine very sore cheeks at the end of it yeah doing stuff she looked like she had a great time and can i just say this is i heard this audio yesterday because i know megan she's never been into the relationship that i'm into travis kelsey taylor swift and she gave never been into the relationship that I'm into, Travis Kelsey, Taylor Swift.
Starting point is 00:01:07 And she gave a wonderful shout-out to her boyfriend, Travis Kelsey, yesterday when she won the big award with Post Malone on stage. I would always just hear, like, someone, like, cheering and, like, whoo! Like, from across... From across the studio where we were shooting it and that one person was my boyfriend, Travis. Everything this man touches turns to happiness and fun and magic,
Starting point is 00:01:33 so I want to thank him for adding that to our shoot. Yeah. Beautiful. Come on, tell us your real thoughts and feelings. I just was perfectly timed after that contract, isn't it? Yeah, there was the rumours that there was a contract, a showmance they call it, that they both signed a contract to promote Super Bowl and NFL.
Starting point is 00:01:53 And, jeez, that crowd all just deployed screaming and everything, weren't they? Cut down the, after she said Travis, the screaming went on for ages. It did go on for a long time. Yeah, as well. So Katy Perry was one of the other big winners on the night. So she won the Video Vanguard Award. That means she did like a big 10-minute medley of all her songs, which was amazing.
Starting point is 00:02:11 But then she got up there and she got to do a big speech. Orlando, her husband, partner, presented her. Are you okay with their relationship? Are you okay with them? Do you think that's done for showbiz purposes? Because, of course, they're both famous people in their own rights. He's getting very defensive about that. Are you okay with that one? Are you in a throuple with travis and taylor or something you really should they don't care about you don't worry don't worry i love it they're very both passionate
Starting point is 00:02:35 about their relationship uh but it's not affecting them in any way yeah katie accepted the award from orlando her partner which i'm fine with with, but she started it by saying this. Thank you, I did that all on my first day of my period too, can you believe it? Katie period. Was it a good performance? It was a great performance and then you remember how many hits she's got over the years. Wow.
Starting point is 00:02:59 I don't even think she did them all in that time. She's mid-thirties, I imagine Katie period. She's 39, she's about all in that time, but yeah. She's mid-30s, I imagine, Katy Perry. She's 39. She's about to be 40. Yeah. Just feel the time goes quick. And then you look back at the back catalogue,
Starting point is 00:03:13 I reckon she'd have 15 bangers. Yeah. Yeah, easy. Well, there we go. That's all the action from the MTV Video Music Awards. The hits. The Jono and Ben podcast. Very cold, particularly down south this morning. Snow forecast around Otago, Southland and Canterbury.
Starting point is 00:03:29 The regions are very, very cold. Megan, I know you're on the countdown. It's two weeks to Sunday till daylight's saving. We've got a polar blast here right now. Now, Dave Grohl from the Foo Fighters made news and then the debate kind of took over a little bit, but it's still circulating around the news. Yeah, he announced that he's going to have a baby outside of his marriage.
Starting point is 00:03:50 And you were saying this is the perfect PR rollout time-wise. Oh, well, it was actually our boss, Matt, was saying it. I haven't looked into the PR rollout of... You haven't went across the spreadsheet. No, but yeah. He dropped the news, was it the day before the presidential debate? I think the day of. The day of.
Starting point is 00:04:07 Yeah. So everyone started talking about that instead of this. I mean, Longbeard is the nice guy of rock and roll, Dave Grohl, so I guess this is what comes as a bit of a shock. This doesn't make him a bad person, though. No, no. People make mistakes. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:04:19 We all make mistakes. No one here is perfect. We definitely aren't saying we're perfect as well. And you do feel for him, his wife, obviously mostly in the family, you know, to go through that. So I've been through a divorce and I always, after that, because it was really, it's really unfun. It's really difficult. And I was like, from here on, I'm not going to judge people's relationships because everyone comes in and thinks they know. Oh, hello, Travis Kelsey and buddy Taylor Swift.
Starting point is 00:04:43 You're judging their relationship. I know, but I said they're fine. If they're happy, I'm fine and buddy Taylor Swift. You're judging their relationship. I know but I said they're fine if they're happy I'm fine with it. He's so defensive of their relationship. I know. Oh because she's so against it. No I'm not against it. We stopped the career. Who cares? How is this affecting anyone's life? I'm not against it.
Starting point is 00:04:58 They don't care what you think. I don't care what you think. You guys are sitting here. This is coming between you two. These two celebrities you're never going to meet. They don't even know who you are. I'm, this is coming between you two. These two celebrities, you're never going to meet. They don't even know who you are. I'm the big backer of the relationship. He still reckons he's going to meet them. He's going to be the throuple.
Starting point is 00:05:10 I'll be at the wedding party. But the thing is, you're right. We've met him. He's a really nice guy, and he's made mistakes. And it sounds like he's made a few mistakes in a lot of relationships. But, you know, we're all human at the end of the day. And the only person he has to apologise to is his partner, partners. Yeah, and that's who you really do feel sorry for.
Starting point is 00:05:34 Yeah, I'm not saying it was a good thing to do. No, it's a doozy of a mistake, that's for sure. But then you do really feel sorry for his wife, Jordan, their three children as well. They're all affected by someone else's actions. Exactly. And on such a public platform as well, which is – It must be hard being, you know, like his kids,
Starting point is 00:05:52 and now the whole internet is like, your dad's a douche. Yeah, well, yeah, I know my wife, Jen, was like, he was my fave. Oh, no. Disappointed, but hey, people screw up. That's life. That's what we do. But can you come back from that you know in a relationship you know when it comes to that because i imagine there's people
Starting point is 00:06:10 listening right now that this may have happened to and the relationships have ended and maybe relationships haven't ended because of this and i'm really disappointed out of all of the professions you would hope to never have an affair you would imagine imagine a rock star would be the last one. No, never happened before, ever. Never. Truly upstanding. When would he get the opportunity to step out of his marriage? Rock stars and rappers, I would never. Yeah, no.
Starting point is 00:06:34 There Goes My Hero is one of the things that's been bandied about. So he's still going to sing that? Yeah. Not a time for cheap. Now, Ben Boyce comes in with his cheap dad gags. He's been defending Travis and Taylor. Now he comes in with lowbrow song gags. Oh, what about this one?
Starting point is 00:06:52 What's that one? He's got something else to confess. I know. We had this one queued up as well, too. Did you have something queued up? Shut up! Oh, you mean this one here. Sorry, I'm a bit late
Starting point is 00:07:05 I've got another confession to make There you go So yeah we want to know Well we're going to actually talk to a relationship expert Because we want to know Can relationships get through this And how do you get through this Maybe it has happened to you
Starting point is 00:07:18 And you've got some advice on 4487 Beyonce forgave Jay-Z The hits The Jono and Ben podcast I wanted to know, you know, in the case of Dave Grohl and obviously what's happened in his relationship, he's had a baby, had a wedlock. Can
Starting point is 00:07:31 relationships, can they survive when someone cheats? And we've got a relationship a coach and New Zealand's leading certified divorce separation coach on with us right now. Bridget Jackson, good morning. Good morning. Hello, you two. How are you? We've got Megan with us now too. Bridget, we haven't spoken to you. Is Megan? Hi, Bridget Jackson. Good morning. Good morning. Hello, you two. How are you? We've got Megan with us now too. Bridget, we haven't spoken to you with Megan.
Starting point is 00:07:47 Hi, Bridget. Oh, no. Hi, Megan. Lovely to meet you. You too. Just so you know, Megan, we have an introduction for... Oh, yeah, we do. I forgot about that.
Starting point is 00:07:55 For Bridget Jackson. And for real, never want to get divorced, but if I do, I'll give her a call Bridget, we always enjoy catching up with you. We thought the scenario that happened, obviously to someone way more famous than people listening in us right now, but Dave Grohl, the situation where he's gone out and he's had an affair and got a baby.
Starting point is 00:08:21 Can relationships get back together after this? Can they survive that? They can. They absolutely can. Remembering that rebuilding the trust is going to be absolutely paramount. Physical infidelity doesn't require emotional or romantic feelings, but emotional cheating does. So initially when the fear comes out to play, it triggers really powerful emotions for both.
Starting point is 00:08:48 There's anger, betrayal, shame, depression, guilt, remorse, etc. And it's usually really difficult in the first instance to make long-term decisions. What I recommend, my guidance would be that you've got to take time apart because emotions are really hard to manage when the truth surfaces and don't make rash decisions. Big one is steer clear of social media because high emotions and the social don't mix. Right. And both have to really reassess what's important.
Starting point is 00:09:21 What are your priorities in life? And really, in this case, considering their three children and what role the other mother will play in their lives because, you know, mending and recovering from an affair, it really is one of the most challenging chapters in someone's life and I see it in my practice every day. I've been through a divorce and I always vowed that I would never judge people on their relationships again.
Starting point is 00:09:44 But do you think that he's he's shown a pattern of behavior it's come out that he's done this before with his other partners do you still think he can change there's the old does a leopard change his spots well you know it's there's been a huge amount hasn't there of public scrutiny and it's really less about what they say. It's about the actions and the steps that they're willing to take and learn and own their mistakes, you know, show up. And he has done that. And it's coming back to, you know, willing to do therapy as a couple
Starting point is 00:10:17 and on their own, which actually is a really, it's a green flag or positive step. But as disheartening as cheating can be, past cheating, the relationship isn't necessarily doomed. You just can't cast judgment, can you? Because no one's in that situation. We're not in the eye of the storm there. And you never know what you'd do if you're in someone's shoes. We aren't living lives.
Starting point is 00:10:43 We don't know what's happening behind those closed doors. And they need that time and that privacy to work through it. They really do. I can't imagine it's a fun conversation coming home and telling your wife you've had a baby with another woman. I can't imagine that's a great after dinner conversation. If you have cheated, conversation wise, how do you even bring that up? Well, they need to absolutely fess up in the first instance because I see situations where people find out third-hand from others and that ends up just the conflict escalating massively. But in the first instance, you really are going to realise
Starting point is 00:11:22 that that other person is potentially going to react in a way that will escalate the conflict. But you've got to, you know, if couples really want to be in a relationship, they will make it work regardless of what everyone else thinks. You're right. I'm really sorry, Bridget. We're going to have to wrap it up there. We're running out of time. And thank you so much. We always love talking to you, Miss Jackson.
Starting point is 00:11:46 Have a good one. The Hits, the Jono and Ben podcast. Can I just say a quick thing right now? I know this is probably a conversation that many have had over the years, but when it comes to socks and the washing machine, where do they go? Or the dryer situation as well. We've got a little, now a little container on top of our washing machine, where do they go? Or the dryer situation as well. We've got a little, now a little container on top of our washing machine of just like single socks that I keep going.
Starting point is 00:12:11 They'll find a pair. That's the thing. You hold out hope for a miracle, don't you? They're just going to emerge one day like a deadbeat dad who's been missing for 17 years. Like, bang, I am back. Yeah. And very rarely do they ever come back.
Starting point is 00:12:24 I don't know if they get lost in the washing machine, do they stick to other clothes, or maybe they don't even make it to the washing machine. Do they make it into sleeves of other things that you don't wear very often? But where do they go? I've got one at the moment. I've just noticed it's been gone,
Starting point is 00:12:37 I don't know how long before, and I brought it in because my wife's like, get rid of it. I'm like, no, it's my lucky sock. And it's a sock right here, a black sock. It's got a little green four-leaf clover. I don't know how lucky it is, but I was just kind of like, well, it's got to be lucky because it's a sock right here, a black sock. It's got a little green four-leaf clover. I don't know how lucky it is, but I was just kind of like, well, it's got to be lucky because it's got a four-leaf clover on it.
Starting point is 00:12:49 So I refused to throw it away. Orphaned. Yes. But I don't know where the other pair is. Is that worse luck, though, that you've lost your other lucky sock? Oh, you're probably right. You need to find it. We need to start – I was thinking like a Tinder for socks.
Starting point is 00:13:02 You know, you've got Tinder for people. You can just swipe right. You know, sock is – Oh, you put up a solo sock. You're like, you've got Tinder for people. You can just swipe right. Oh, you put up a solo sock. It's a match. We're looking for single socks in your area. Why don't we start it now? Let's find the partner to your sock. Someone else out there might have a single lucky.
Starting point is 00:13:17 I've never seen that sock before in my life. It's not like a run of the mill. That's what someone would say if they had my sock too, wouldn't they? I don't have your sock. Yeah, why would you need one sock? I've installed in your one sock. Let's put a photo up on social on the hits briefers and we'll try and find... Oh, real?
Starting point is 00:13:32 That'd be great. We'll make it our life mission. Someone else's sock or my sock? Either or. Yeah, not life. I won't make it my life mission. Well, this is it. You want to make it your life mission.
Starting point is 00:13:39 No, not life. Make it your life mission. Couple of days. I have a friend who does, as everyone, have mismatched socks. He just puts any pair on it drives me wild I'll do the same type of sock like if I had another sock like this that had a different emblem on it but I wouldn't wear a white sock with a green sock
Starting point is 00:13:55 he'll just put if it's sort of cylinder and it'll cover his foot he'll put it on he'll put like an ankle sock on with a business sock oh it just winds me up I would never have picked you to wear mismatched socks. I would have thought it was a Jono thing. They're the same type of socks. Someone bought me...
Starting point is 00:14:09 They're different emblems. Someone bought me some with Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. And I was like, I can't even match those days up. Sometimes I'm wearing a Wednesday with a Friday and things like that. Oh my God, you're a monster. But they're the same type of socks. I didn't think that you were that kind of person. I really thought you'd be a Monday, Monday guy.
Starting point is 00:14:24 I'm pedantic about a lot of things, but that one I'm not pedantic about. I'm weirdly pedantic about matching socks. I didn't think that you were that kind of person. I really thought you'd be a Monday Monday guy. I'm pedantic about a lot of things, but that one I'm not pedantic about. I'm weirdly pedantic about matching socks. I don't know why. When you look at the rest of the stuff you're wearing, you're like, He's so concerned. You're real concerned about his socks, but everything else is holy old t-shirt from the 90s. Would you wear a weekend sock during the week?
Starting point is 00:14:41 Yeah, I wouldn't worry about that. There we go. The Black Ferns over in the UK, they play on Sunday and they met King Charles. Wonderful moment when they had a hug with him at Buckingham Palace yesterday. But Ruby Toohey was having a conversation, getting to meet him. And I love some of the words that she dropped into the conversation with the king. What the heck is a catty? Guys, we're about to legit meet the king.
Starting point is 00:15:08 How do we feel about meeting the king of England? Watercress pēnā kouta. It's a long word for a small... Tēnā mai, sopji, how are you? Not too bad. Did you play rugby? Me? First five, scrum half.
Starting point is 00:15:24 Broken news. I'm impressed, bruv. You've got enough room out there for like three rugby fields too. We could have the rugby world cup. Will do, boss. Calling him boss, bruv, G. Sup G. I love Ruby Tui.
Starting point is 00:15:40 She's like, enough room for three rugby fields. He's like, there's a lot of goose droppings out there apparently, so you wouldn't want to play rugby out there. Is that what he said? And they gave him a hug. I know, there's a lot of goose droppings out there apparently, so you wouldn't want to play rugby out there. Is that what he said? Yeah. And they gave him a hug. I know, it was a pretty, pretty cool moment. You've never seen him smile that big when they gave him a group hug. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:52 He's never felt the embrace of another human being. No, that's probably it. I mean, the king needs a bit of love from time to time. You know, a hug. It was a lovely moment. Ruby Toohey, that's why we love her. She's awesome. Now, we got a great text just through before
Starting point is 00:16:04 about someone can't make work today, Friday, going into the weekend. You're like, is this a convenient text to send or is this a legitimate horrible thing that's happened to someone? It's obviously a situation that's… It's a defecation situation. Yeah, that's well said. Yeah, you're right. The text starts by saying, please don't put me on air. I'm a manager, but I had to text you anyway
Starting point is 00:16:26 Yeah I've just had a staff member Text me To say that they Passed wind while driving To work on the motorway And then followed through Oh no
Starting point is 00:16:36 Oh no No So they're taking the work van Back home To sort things out Wait They're just not coming in today Or are they going to be late
Starting point is 00:16:43 Well they're definitely Going to be late I mean yeah they're definitely going to be late. I mean, yeah. I mean, would you cut? I mean, it's very honest text. And I guess as far as excuses go, I'm not saying someone's made this situation up because I don't think, would you? Would you make that situation up?
Starting point is 00:16:55 Well, you know you're not going to get follow-up questions. That's the key, yeah. Maybe it's the best excuse ever. I love it when you go, I've got a specialist appointment. You chuck in specialist and no one and there is no further questioning. Yeah. Yeah. Have you ever thrown out, I've got a specialist appointment as an excuse?
Starting point is 00:17:11 Yep. I definitely have. I definitely have. And everyone's like, oh, we can't ask you that. Or a good one is diarrhea. Everyone's like, no further questions, your honour. Yeah, I'd rather go with the specialist, to be honest. It depends how badly you want to get out of something.
Starting point is 00:17:28 I think I was telling you the other day that I was trying to get out of something, felt a little bad about it and said, oh, sorry, got something else on that date. And then they went, that's all good. It's moved to another date now. No excuse then, no excuse. I believe you said I could do any other day Yeah any other day Just can't do that
Starting point is 00:17:47 Day or so And they're like It's all good This other day And so now I'm doing it Silly you Now our boss Matt Anderson
Starting point is 00:17:58 Had a hunch He was going to get upset About this as well right We're running a bit Of a bingo competition On the station At the moment with bingo balls. And in the studio, there's a tray of miniature balls all lined up. How many would be there?
Starting point is 00:18:13 Say 30 or 40? All been sit there. There's 50 of them. Is there 50? 50 balls. All right. All allocated, these balls. He's got a spreadsheet.
Starting point is 00:18:21 He sent out multiple emails. He's like, whatever you do, do not touch these balls in the studio. It's, you know, like basically if they go missing, they go away. We've got a hands-off balls policy generally in the studio, don't we? But yeah, this one,
Starting point is 00:18:34 he's very tense about. Now he's got spreadsheets. He's got everything. And so if anything were to happen to these bingo balls, he would, I mean, the other day. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:43 PJ. For Maddie and PJ, she moved one and that caused major, major issues. And an email went out, a very passive aggressive email from Matt No touching the balls, and again hands off the balls And so yesterday, you two
Starting point is 00:18:58 evil, evil plan Oh now you're putting it all on us Well you did, we took a photo of the balls in the tray, so we knew exactly. We knew exactly where everything was so it could easily be put back in place. And then we rehearsed a wonderful, wonderful performance. We were calling it the pantomime. To be honest, I was like, oh, I don't know how this is going to go
Starting point is 00:19:15 because we're across the road at the cafe. You're like, I'm going to come in like this, then I'll say this, and I'm like, this is just going to be, hello, my good lady. Pass you the balls, Megan. I was going to pass you the balls. And then we're going to, you know, like not grab it properly. And then the balls are going to scatter anywhere, just as our boss, Matt, was walking in for our 9.30 meeting.
Starting point is 00:19:34 Have a listen to this. Hello, guys. Hello. Oh, my God. You hear that? You hear that? All right, well, that's a good start to the meeting. How many days have we done?
Starting point is 00:19:50 And... Oh no. I thought you heard it. You let go before I had it. I actually don't know what to say. To be honest, I think maybe just stay silent. It's a prank! We took the final round of the thing. Oh f*** you all
Starting point is 00:20:05 All I could think about was my spreadsheet Awesome All I could think about was my spreadsheet So that was a cut down of what happened In the moment It felt like 15 minutes Tensions were high Like the parent you know
Starting point is 00:20:23 Where you just did You were like I've told you guys about this and I don't want to yell but I'm about to yell sort of thing. He did some deep breaths. Good on him.
Starting point is 00:20:31 He was like, I couldn't look at him. You know when people are so angry they start twitching. The anger's almost, it just wants to burst out but he was containing it.
Starting point is 00:20:39 It was like the equivalent of knocking over a 3,000 piece jigsaw puzzle. I don't know where the Oscars are but Megan, I think we could be front runners. Yeah, how was our pantomime in the end johnno actually fantastic thank you yeah i was i was like i was deep inside that was beautiful uh so there we go
Starting point is 00:20:53 that's us winding up our boss do we filmed it too for social media yeah but he'll go up at some stage today you can see it on the hits breakfast uh facebook at instagram the hits the johnno and ben podcast into the weekend Saturday night There's going to be A huge fight night Going on at the Viaduct Events Centre Which is headlined
Starting point is 00:21:10 By David Nika Boxer And he joins us In the studio right now How you doing? Hello Lovely to see you mate Good to see you guys This is awesome
Starting point is 00:21:18 Nice to have you here Thanks for having me So a couple of days out From a big fight This weekend Saturday night Yes The last one
Starting point is 00:21:24 You had in New Zealand Was 23 seconds it lasted for. Yeah, including the count. Including the count to 10 for the guy that was on the ground. So that's a 13-second fight for you. Yeah, I'm hoping this guy brings a little bit more heat. As a professional boxer, obviously you're training for months leading into this. Do you want it to go longer than 13 seconds, or you happy with that result yeah we don't get paid overtime but obviously i need to develop i need i need to get into these like into the later rounds i'm going
Starting point is 00:21:54 to be fighting for world titles and uh in the in the near future so i'd love to go past like six seven eight rounds just to kind of get that experience under my belt so there's no actual like personal development for you when you knock someone out in five seconds? Not really. Not really when you get to throw like, I think that was four punches I threw in that fight. How many punches did he land?
Starting point is 00:22:13 Did he land? Yeah. In 13 seconds, I don't think he landed anything. That's a dream for me. That's a dream fight. I imagine this is going to sound like a dumb question, but I imagine getting punched in the face hurts. And that's part of your job.
Starting point is 00:22:27 That's going to happen even when you win fights. Maybe not this one that lasted not long, but it does actually happen, right? Yeah, I've been doing this for, I've just ticked over half my life I've been boxing for now. So at 14, I started. I tell you what, getting punched in the face, you can get used to it, but that's a real danger.
Starting point is 00:22:44 You start getting used to getting punched in the face you can get used to it but that's a real danger you start getting used to getting punched in the face yeah yeah and it's so inspiring you're obviously sparring people you know respect friends yeah but then you have to go in there and you're like i want to rip his head off like how's that transition mentally oh it's it's much nicer when you're sparring with like guys you like and that you respect uh when it comes to fights i find it a little bit awkward if i'm completely honest I'm really bad with confrontation which is hilarious I get the wrong coffee order
Starting point is 00:23:10 and I'm like I'm just going to drink it I'm just going to roll with it Don't want to make a fuss No, no, no I'm terrible at that And so the pre-fight banter the press conferences
Starting point is 00:23:20 you're not comfortable in that environment I suck I suck I'm just like I'm sitting there giving them all the compliments I can. But maybe they get inside the head more.
Starting point is 00:23:28 My ring name is the nice guy. Oh, I think that's good. I think it's fitting as well. I'm actually like not a douchebag. Yeah. And I'm actually quite confident saying that. Speaking of that, I saw recently Israel Adesanya got approached by someone in the street, absolute D-bag, wanting to have a fight with him in the street. it ever happened to you someone approaching you and be like all right tough guy
Starting point is 00:23:49 funnily enough never i've never been in a street fight i've like i'm like i said i'm the first person to like uh simmer things down and i've never given anyone a reason to whenever go want to have a go exactly yeah and like um And I hope that doesn't stir anyone up. No, I don't think so. I thought that guy was very brave having a crack at Israel. Yeah, what was he up to? So I've spied Israel quite a lot. I was his main spying partner when he fought Anderson Silva.
Starting point is 00:24:17 And I remember working with him and I realised very quickly when I backed him into a corner, did like a double jab, right hand. And he slipped out of the way and then pulled my head into a knee. And it was like my life flashed before my eyes. He has that much control. But like, I realized then I stood up and I was like,
Starting point is 00:24:34 like I'd seen a ghost. I was like, this guy has six other limbs that I don't know. I'm really good with these bad boys. He's, he's an absolute monster. And like, uh, uh, and like his control
Starting point is 00:24:46 he would be an absolute monster in a street fight I've never been in a street fight I'd be pretty good yeah I'd be pretty good I'd back myself but
Starting point is 00:24:56 yeah he's the last guy I'd pick on you know I thought it was you you're pretty brave oh totally let's talk Saturday night because obviously
Starting point is 00:25:03 it's in Auckland people can watch as well on on DAZN. So this is the first time that DAZN has come to New Zealand. So it is a really, really big deal. It's D-A-Z-N. That's the global streaming platform for boxing today. That's the biggest, the home of boxing now, which is incredible.
Starting point is 00:25:22 And to be spearheading that is really, really cool. And the fighter that you're going to fight against was just found pretty recently because the first guy sort of failed a drug test, right? And they found someone in like 24, 48 hours. No, he failed the drug tests about six weeks ago. And we were doing everything we could to kind of sweep it under the rug.
Starting point is 00:25:40 We were trying to help him sweep it under the rug. Drink some water, pee. Here's my urine what advantage so what is taking steroids obviously yeah what advantage does that give the other fighter i don't know but uh this was um uh it was exogenous testosterone so testosterone from an external source and that basically helps you recover faster helps you build muscle um it's like it's like the young man's hormone so you can just train harder yeah exactly exactly um i was very confident that i could beat him uh
Starting point is 00:26:10 juicing or not uh but we've got another guy from the states his name's tommy carpensee uh he's he's got a similar record he's beaten former world champions he's tougher he's decent yeah he's decent and um it would look really good if i could just steamroll him. Oh, awesome. Good on you, Dave. Well, you're a true gentleman. And like we say, we can never imagine you hurting people in the ring. You're so lovely. But you do a good job of it.
Starting point is 00:26:32 Thanks, man. Yeah, and I'll keep doing it. I'll keep doing it. We'll bring some world titles back to New Zealand. The Hits, the Jono and Ben podcast. Episode three of the podcast I do with my daughter, Sienna, is out today. Lucy Lawless is the guest, which is pretty incredible. I was very surprised when I'm the celebrity booker
Starting point is 00:26:49 for the podcast with my daughter. You're the producer. How are you harassing these people? Are you going through social media? Sometimes social media, sometimes emails, sometimes tracking people down. Some great guests, which we could have really done with on the show.
Starting point is 00:27:04 I'm amazed at some of the people that have said yes. As I said before, every week, Sienna and myself talk to an inspirational woman who has done some amazing things in their life and gets some advice for young people. It's a great thing to listen to with your kids. Yeah. Lucy Lawless, Dame Lisa Carrington, Karen Walker as well.
Starting point is 00:27:20 It's a pretty incredible list. Yeah. You've become a full-time celebrity stalker. I have. You're stalking quite a commitment. It is a real commitment. Yeah. It definitely a pretty incredible list. Yeah, you've become a full-time celebrity stalker. I have. It's stalking quite a commitment. It is a real commitment. Yeah, it definitely is a real commitment.
Starting point is 00:27:29 But Lucy Lawless, Xena, obviously iconic show. You think about it actually when we're talking to her, you know, it really led the way for a lot of productions in New Zealand. Yeah, 100%.
Starting point is 00:27:38 It was kind of the first show that was made here that went sort of international and the first show she was saying with two female leads way back in the day. Yeah. It was very, very unique.
Starting point is 00:27:47 But we asked her, as we do every guest on the show, what would they tell themselves at Sienna's age, 13, 14 years old? What would you tell your 13-year-old or 14-year-old self? I think all adults would go back and tell our 13-year-old self, it's going to be okay. It's going to feel tough and it's going to feel scary. It's going to be okay because as the obstacles, as you meet them, your skills and your understanding of the world is going to help you
Starting point is 00:28:12 surmount them. So chill, bro. It's going to be okay. You know you're way too good for this podcast, right? You know that. You didn't need to say yes. But again, you're being so nice and lovely. That's Lucy Lawless.
Starting point is 00:28:24 You can catch her on episode 3 of When I Grow Up podcast out now what would you tell yourself with 13 and 14 year olds don't obsess over Mike Roberts
Starting point is 00:28:32 he doesn't like you and you're not going to end up with him you're in love with Mike McRoberts no Mike Roberts not McRoberts that's an unusual
Starting point is 00:28:39 crush for a 13 year old he's definitely not going to go out if he's on the news that is troublesome for Mike McRoberts he's got 13 year olds? He's like, well he's definitely not going to go out if he's on the news. That is troublesome for Mike McRobbins and he's got 13 year olds chasing him.
Starting point is 00:28:48 No, I agree with Lucy. Like everything feels like all encompassing when you're that age and high school is hard but you come out the other side of it and then you suddenly
Starting point is 00:28:57 have a lot of freedom and you come into yourself and... Do you reckon it's easier now or harder now because growing up... Harder. Growing up and mastering it
Starting point is 00:29:06 That was my world Your world was mastering it But now you've got What a world, what a world Social media But now you've got social media Your world is the world I don't know if it's harder or easier to know this
Starting point is 00:29:16 I'm so thankful I didn't grow up with social media Because I grew up when texting came in And that was enough People were bullying over texting They'll always find a way, but you're just giving them more tools. So, I mean, like, I think everyone kind of got bullied in some form, but the bullies, they go away.
Starting point is 00:29:35 But it was good old-fashioned bullying, too, wasn't it? It was kind of like a... What's that? Well, just after school, bit of a, yeah, three, punch you in the face and move on with the day, you know? Oh, right. You like that bullying, do you? Are you going to publicly state that you're a fan of bullying?
Starting point is 00:29:49 Well, if I'm to pick any form of bullying, you know, I'm going to pick bullying that just takes place in a certain time frame between 9 and 3. Gotcha. Then it follows you home. Yeah, that's the scary thing, right? People like, with social media, you can get talked to, you know, messages all hours of the night
Starting point is 00:30:05 what would you tell yourself 13, 14 you're not going to become Andre Agassi no you're not and you need to learn that you need to learn that pretty quick
Starting point is 00:30:15 give up on that dream pretty quick and give up on your dream of having hair for your entire life Andre Agassi did the same he had the same dream as well didn't he
Starting point is 00:30:22 he had a wonderful mullet for many years he did it disappeared
