This John O'Bend podcast brought to you by HelloFresh, the experts and tastes that Kiwis love.
Probably one of New Zealand offices' most awkward workplace morning teas.
I was like, what is happening here?
And I'd say in a first for the workforce in this country,
our radio station combined a baby shower with a middle-aged man's birthday.
It was like out with the old and with the new yeah yeah so yeah because Harriet lovely Harriet uh who's our boss she always does
a nice thing for everyone's birthday even if you don't want it she will say hey would you like cake
or would you like coffee or whatever we'll have something to honor your birthday not a huge
birthday person I'm happy if you know it's nice people say happy birthday at the same time I'm
more than happy for people to not know and just go about their day that's fine uh so yesterday i was meant
to be a coffee thing for me as well as producer taylor you were going to have your baby shower
all on the same day i don't know why you couldn't have your baby shower today just
but anyway i was like cool same day that's fine and then we're going to be separate times and
then all of a sudden i get, mine was cancelled.
Mine was cancelled.
With no message attached to it.
Just boom, cancelled invite.
To combine with yours.
Yeah, which I wasn't thrilled about.
And I was feeling, I felt a little bit awkward because I was like,
let's just give you, you know, yours is a big deal.
Mine's just like, ah, it's another birthday.
So a big deal.
Yeah, I agree.
Yeah.
Yesterday I was like, heading into the baby shower birthday.
I was like, it's going to be a 90-10 split, 90% baby shower, 10% birthday.
Looking at the paraphernalia, it was probably a 100-0 split.
There was no birthday stuff there.
There was a cake, but even the cake was, like, pink and...
Yeah, as I came out of the studio, everyone gave me,
happy birthday, and I got to blow out the candle on the cake.
But I felt like that was your cake.
It was my cake.
It was my cake.
So, yeah, I wasn't happy about that either.
I don't share things.
It's enough my kids are sharing a womb at the moment.
Yeah.
So would you do it again?
Would you party?
To be honest, as someone who doesn't like the attention on myself
on a birthday, it's probably quite good for me because it shifted over to Taylor.
But for producer Taylor, I imagine it wasn't your ideal situation.
No, it wasn't.
And also, were we meant to get coffees for your birthday?
Because that I was keen for and we never got those.
But we played games.
We played the diaper game, didn't we?
Well, if you're going to crash my birthday, the least we can have is the coffee.
And that was my request.
That wasn't for your baby shit.
I just wanted to play
the diaper game
the traditional middle aged
birthday man game
put diapers on a
what was it
it was like a piece of pork
or something
yeah it's in
Louis Cage at the moment
now
two drumstick chickens
more of a dog toy
but who won
who won that
oh you're very competitive
you're so competitive
it's not a great trait
but yeah
I'm quite competitive
seven seconds
it took me to get that
nappy on
and then she kept checking everyone else's time.
What did you get?
Seven seconds, oh yeah.
What was it?
You would have a conversation with someone,
and then you'd look over after they'd finished the time
and go, what was their time?
But that's good.
People that are competitive aren't going to get further in life.
Thank you.
Yeah.
We're all here.
We're all sharing a seat with her, and I don't think so.
We're all here. Excuse me, you took a with her. I don't think so. We're all here.
Excuse me, you took a minute to put that nappy on.
Good luck.
Early days to me, mate.
Early days.
The Hits, the Jono and Ben podcast.
Producer Taylor, are you last day today?
It is.
Yeah, for a while.
You're off to have twins if anyone missed it, having a baby?
Yeah.
Or two babies.
Pushing those out soon.
Are you put – oh, shall I ask?ushing those out soon. Oh, she'll ask?
No, maybe not.
Is it okay to ask?
You can ask Taylor because she will tell you if you're in the wrong.
Are you going sunroof or what are you doing?
My obstetrician said if everything continues the way it is,
I will have a choice to go natural or be cut open.
I don't know.
I'm getting acupuncture to hopefully help with everything.
Just see how it goes, I guess.
See how I'm feeling on the day.
Jen's number one rule.
Jen, my wife, when she was like, just don't look down.
This is what she instructed me.
Don't look down.
That was the first child.
Second one, she's like, ah, do what you want.
And I tell you what, pulling out a baby, that is.
Have you done that?
Yeah. Did you done that? Yeah.
Did you pull it out?
Well, with assistance from the professionals.
I got, yeah.
Holy.
That was a surreal experience.
Yeah, we had an emergency caesarean.
And I got to pull it.
But that was through the stomach was a whole.
Why did you pull it out?
Why did you pull it out of its head?
Well, I had to help through the thing.
And it was, again, cut the end.
Yeah, they're not like, hey, over to you now.
They didn't just go, we'll take 10 minutes.
We're going to get a Dil Marti or something.
Andrew didn't even look past the curtain because I had caesareans.
It's a crime scene.
I'm sure there's a lot of concern from the person giving birth about,
oh, you know, what are they going to see?
What does it look like?
Honestly, none of that is a matter.
You're like, this is wild.
What do you think of that?
It's all very surreal.
It is surreal, yeah.
It's a beautiful experience.
And look, I take my hat off to both of you
because you see the world that way.
Unfortunately, my husband is not the same.
No, mine's not either.
There's Marcella like, I do not want down there ruined for me.
But no, he's got a list of rules and regulations about me.
So we'll see.
As only Marcella would.
See, it is your last day with us.
We thought, you know, that's an audience, a very helpful audience.
And too many listening right now would have gone through, you know, giving birth, having kids.
So we thought, oh, 100 of the hits, 4, 4, 8, 7, last minute tips for Taylor going into it.
You know, maybe particularly in the first few months of having a baby.
I always wonder, too, because when you're born, you don't know what tastes good and what doesn't taste good, right?
Can you save costs
by feeding them pet food?
Could you like,
because they don't know
what is meant to taste good or not.
I've got plenty of that too at home.
Yeah.
Nutritionally,
I don't know how that stacks up.
So that's why,
I mean,
we've started there.
We could definitely get
a lot better than that.
I'd say also,
a bit of advice for me
is like get used to
talking to everyone like they're a child. Because you like get used to talking to everyone like they're a child.
Because you spend so long talking to babies like they're a child that you end up –
and just children are just going to be everywhere.
And then you make friends with people in a baby group and you're like,
I've got nothing in common with these people apart from we bumped uglies around about the same time.
I don't think that'll be me.
You guys know me.
I've got a potty mouth.
So I don't think there's any way to queue it up in a bomb and baby it. You might do it. You'll get into the coffee groups, mate. Do you reckon? I didn't think that'll be me. You guys know me. I've got a potty mouth, so I don't think there's any way to queue it up. You will.
You might do it.
You'll get into the coffee groups, mate.
Do you reckon?
I didn't.
I didn't.
But then they tried to set up a lads beer group, and I was like, didn't quite make it.
Did you make it to some lads beers?
No, not really.
Caught up with a couple of guys from my antenatal, which is nice.
That's really nice.
You might make some great friends.
I hope so.

It's a pleasure to be here
Love seeing all your Smiling faces You been well mate? Yes Been ticking along Although Ben Podcast. collapsed a bit of a lung and had radiation and then i'm back into chemo um in a couple of weeks
uh so it's been it's been really tough on that on that side of things but also been finding heaps
of smiles and heading over to the grand final for rugby i may have bought my tickets a bit
to watch two other teams that aren't the team you want to watch but heading over there i've got uh
i've got a bit of whanau over in Manly,
so heading over there with the kids and my wonderful wife.
So finding lots of smiles, and it's awesome to be in here
and sort of help the Cancer Society because the work that they do is phenomenal.
I know I've lent on it along the lines of therapy for myself um provide therapy for
for people's whanau that are dealing with cancer which is a huge counselling sort of thing yeah
because if you've got a partner who's got cancer and you're trying to process that trying to figure
out how to talk to kids and so forth having counsellors that are specialised in that is
is huge providing accommodation for people outside of Auckland
who have to come in and have treatment to take the burden of that
because cancer robs you of so much financially, emotionally, time-wise.
So if you can go somewhere where the staff at the Cancer Society are amazing,
you've got accommodation.
Also provide accommodation for close family and that.
So it's a massive help.
And it's awesome because they actually get the donations
because ANZ sort of looks after the back end of things.
So it's a really straight up charity.
Well, you see what 24 mil they've raised over the years.
Many, many years the ANZ have really supported daffodil day.
Remember the iconic daffodil jingle?
Daffodil, daffodil.
I mean, they've really taken over the daffodil, haven't they?
You know, if you ever see a daffodil, you go,
are they growing them for daffodil day?
And then you realise that they're actually not real daffodils.
I don't know if you guys had this at your school,
but for Valentine's Day at school you could order flowers like a secret thing.
So if you got a red rose, it was someone, you know,
it was obviously a big Valentine. If you got a yellow one, it was like the friend zone and that was the daffodil
at the school so you never wanted the daffodil bank you were friends you're ordering flowers
at school well yeah we could order one i think it was the most romantic masters that ever ever has
been i think some florist came to the school all right here's how it's going to work and then you've
got to put these secret orders through but the daffodil then was like the friend zone.
So do you add it to your lunch order over pie, an apple turnover, and just one single
red rose, please?
No, thank you.
You can send that to us.
It's very mean, girls.
And you're Gretchen Wiener.
None for Gretchen Wiener.
None for me, mate.
Definitely none for me.
You never want to sort of compare your journey to anyone else's journey.
But I imagine you probably met people where you're like, wow.
Yeah, the resilience of people.
Because, you know, I was like, what did I think about before I had cancer?
Yeah.
I was like, oh, things I worry about seem so big.
And now it's like, why did I waste hours worrying about that?
It was nothing.
I saw some Instagram thing the other day was along those lines
and saying that you have
so many worries, but then when your health is bad, suddenly you've only got one worry,
and that's your health, you know, and how that's the most important thing, you know.
Yeah, and that is all that matters.
And it made me, where I got to a lot of pieces, I suddenly went, wow, everyone dies with a
to-do list.
So why am I freaking out about it?
You know, if you look at it there's
only actually probably three things you really need to worry about but even people if you're 99
you're gonna die with a a whole list of things whether it be you know go and get a new bingo
card or whatever right but so it's like just don't sweat the small stuff yeah and my thing is stop
reading self-help books
You don't need self-help stuff
Just look inside man
You got the answer
You're making me feel too
It's so special
Can I just say
As someone who's in the public
You are putting yourself out there
To get a lot of stories from people
And imagine the conversation
In a lot of your day
Ends up being about cancer
So thank you so much for doing that Because you're such a positive person And I imagine the conversation in a lot of your day ends up being about cancer. Yeah, the heavy conversations.
Thank you so much for doing that.
Oh, yeah.
Because you're such a positive person.
I don't mind doing it.
And it's also not just about cancer.
I mean, a lot of people ask me for selfies at a urinal.
Sorry about that.
There's also other elements.
Is that not the right time to ask you for a selfie?
I'm sorry about that.
It's the downside of being a Warriors fan.
It always happens at the Warriors. Good on you, Di. Di came in here. He's like, I'm cancer's that. It's the downside of being a Warriors fan. It always happens in the Warriors.
Good on you, Di.
Di came in here, he's like, I'm cancer's number one influencer.
Yeah, I'm pretty big in the cancer influencing world, guys.
ANZ Donation Station, it is happening today.
Support ANZ and the Cancer Society.
Make every daffodil count.
You can text DONATE to 2442 to get the link to donate.
But Megan, if you want to make an instant $3 donation.
Text SUPP support to 207
The hits, the Jono and Ben podcast
The spring quota will drop by about 92%
Yeah, the place is about to get classed up
Which is exciting for you three
Yeah, but probably one of the most wonderful Italians I know
Only Italian you know?
Only Italian and the most wonderful
But some last minute baby tips coming through.
0800 the hits telephone number.
Some advice.
What advice do you find you're constantly given by people?
It's not even advice.
It's actually like passive aggressive.
Like enjoying the sleepings now before the baby comes.
I work shift work so I'm not just sleeping in now.
Thanks Cheryl.
To be honest, this job prepares you
fantastically
yeah exactly
and that's what I think
you'll be fine
we don't get a lot of sleep
you'll be fine
yeah
I was hoping
secretly hoping
you were going to go
into labour on air
you know
one of those live radio
but that's not going to happen
you can come back and do it
and then watch I know
then we're rolling live baby
live streaming
you're going to help her
are you
yeah
alright well let's give you some advice right now.
But I know I haven't heard the hits because the hits audience is so good with advice.
Yeah, Carol, good morning to you.
Good morning.
How's Tim's this morning, Carol?
Well, I'm actually over in Wongamata sitting at the main surf beach watching the surfing.
Stop.
That sounds lovely.
What a place.
Yeah, just until I go to my next client.
That's a lovely place to be calling from at the moment, Carol.
What's your advice?
Last minute baby tips, Kazza.
Just make sure that you take time out for yourself.
That's good advice.
That is nice.
And if you don't have time to go anywhere, going outside, that sounds like a silly thing,
but going outside and getting fresh air is really good,
especially when you're cooped up with babies.
Even just putting on a little bit of make-up.
Do yourself up for us, mate.
A bit of foundy wouldn't go astray.
I can see two faces here that are in desperate need of foundy, mate.
Slap some of the beyond.
It's not coming from me, can't say.
Dole yourself up, would you would you Johnno just for once
Give us a smile
Thanks for your call really appreciate it
Rebecca last minute baby tips what have you got for Taylor
Fed is best
Doesn't matter whether it's breast or bottle
It's breast or formula
Don't worry about what people say
Just make sure that babies are fed
Yay
It's a lot of baby to come out there Just make sure that babies are fed. All right, feed the baby.
It's a lottery turn.
Just make sure your babies are fed.
I know the hormones are hard, but yeah.
Yeah, people do love to give advice,
but at the end of the day,
you do your mate, you know.
They go hard on the breastfeeding, don't they? I've had cookies suggested to me,
like vitamins suggested to me already.
I'm like, mate, look the size of them.
But no one puts more pressure
on that
than the actual
woman themselves
like you know
there's so much
pressure out there
and if you can't
do it or it
doesn't feel good
there's so much
pressure you feel
terrible but
it fed his best
exactly
that's a great
way to be
when she said
look at them
Ben she didn't
mean to actually
look at them
I didn't look
at her
I'm not going to miss this
Sam's with us
What's your last minute baby tip for Taylor?
Yeah I reckon
The biggest one I've got is
Don't buy the baby change mats
From the supermarket
Or from the baby stores
Go to Kmart and get the Anko puppy change mats
Because they're the exact same thing.
I just looked up the price and
for 50 baby change mats
it's $29 and for 100
puppy mats it's only $24.
That's a money saving tip for you there.
That's life changing.
You'll probably get a little litter box for your kids
as well too. Yeah, I've already
got so many puppy mats too from
Louis. Yeah, a little catnip?
Yeah.
That's incredible.
Now you've just exposed
an entire industry
of baby change mats here, Sam.
Yeah, yeah,
just make sure you don't
use my last name.
I don't want Huggies
coming after me.
No one wants Huggies
coming after them.
But yeah,
that was the tip
that came from the family.
You've always got to have
someone watching your back.
Yeah, thanks for that
just as I don't need it anymore. Just as I've moved out tip that came from the family. You've always got to have someone watching your back. Yeah, thanks for that.
Just as I don't need it anymore.
Just as I've moved out of that territory.
Thank you.
Hey, Megan, I was always in the office.
You've got to come out.
Now, Taylor, last bit of advice too.
Yeah.
That goes quick.
That would be my advice. Does it really?
It does.
It's such a cliche.
Like what you're going to go through,
you'll be like, this is never going to end.
We're never going to get to sleep.
And then all of a sudden one day you're like,
geez, the kids are going to leave home in three or four years.
Oh, wow.
And then it's just you and Marcelo bickering again.
To be honest, pre-babies is not that good.
Jesus.
What do they say?
The days are long, but the years fly by.
That's right.
It's true.
It is so true.
Someone said you pretty much get, you know,
if you're lucky you get 18 summers with the kids.
Do you know what I'm thinking about now?
Sorry to make this about me, but my son's like about to turn four and he's getting really heavy and you pick him up.
And every time I pick him up now, I'm like, this could be the last time I pick him up.
Because it gets to a point where you don't pick your kids up anymore.
I'm like, oh, that's sad.
So just think about all those things when it's difficult.
Well, I think about Louis and the summer's rule
And like dogs don't survive that long
So I've probably only got like six summers left with Louis
Okay
It wasn't tips for Louis
But if you're going to miss Taylor
You can catch her on her podcast
The hits, the Jono and Ben podcast
Now we need to confront
Ben don't we Megan about something that you saw yesterday.
Oh, yeah.
Now, this, yeah, I'm glad we cleared this up at the time.
It was almost a bit scandalous.
Yeah.
My daughter, Sienna, as you just heard before,
she's got a podcast out today we're doing together when I grow up.
And she was in the studio.
We're doing some stuff for the podcast.
She was here throughout the day.
Yeah.
You know, Sienna's got curly brown hair,
very similar to producer Grace.
Both pretty short.
No offence, Grace.
No, but come in here, Grace.
You are.
She's shorter than me
and that's saying something.
Yeah, Megan's like,
pretty short.
No offence, Grace.
Grace has her hands in the air
and the producer's boosie, Grace.
I'm not a 14-year-old girl like Sienna.
She's like, what the heck?
I am regular sized, okay, people?
Your pockets, your fun size. That's worse. Fun size. 14 year old girl like sienna she's like what the heck i'm regular size okay people your pockets
your fun size that's worse i don't know what that means my daughter sienna had been you know in
between doing some stuff for the podcast uh she'd been out doing some i was like you gotta do some
school work out of the studio so she was doing there came in uh to get something off me at some
stage i give her a hug i'm like give her a hug. I'm like, ahi bab, give her a hug.
You look over, all you see is me hugging someone with...
Curly brown hair.
Fun size, curly...
A fun sized figure with their head nestled into your shoulder armpit area.
Just like comes straight in the studio, goes in straight for a hug.
You were into it.
It was a big squeeze.
And out of the corner of my eye, I was like,
I did not realise that Ben and Grace had that relationship.
What were you thinking at the time?
Were you like, this is inappropriate?
No, it was just like, I've never seen them hug before.
I don't know why they're like, I didn't know that they were that close.
We get on great, but I don't think we've hugged.
No, we haven't hugged.
I don't think we've hugged yet.
No relationship.
To be honest, I don't think you'll ever hug.
No, I don't see that in our future
Particularly at work
Work is an environment
Maybe if you see someone
Out and about
That is a strange thing
People you see every day in the office
We don't hug
But if we ran into Megan
For example on the weekend
We'd probably feel an obligation to hug.
Yeah.
Or we'd be like one of those, like, lean in and kind of a tap.
Yeah.
In the studio environment, very inappropriate, however.
You're right.
No touching.
Hands off in the studio.
You're right.
It's weird.
Like, before we worked together every day, if I saw you,
we probably would, like, do a little hug.
But, like, the closer you are, the less you hug.
Yeah.
Well, you can't do it.
I mean, it feels like you can't do it.
I know.
It's a lot.
You tried to initiate it yesterday. No, you can't do it. I mean, it feels like you can't do it. Oh, we can't initiate it.
You tried to initiate it yesterday.
That wasn't with Grace.
Show hugging policy.
Just so you know.
So I'm glad we cleared that up because if, you know,
Sarah had left and you'd gone, oh, my God, that was Grace.
That was a big squeeze.
Big HR scandal here.
The Hits, the Jono and Ben podcast. We've got a very special guest in the studio.
His name is Ben Boyce.
He's got a brand new podcast today. It's another white guy with Ben podcast. We've got a very special guest in the studio. His name is Ben Boyce. He's got a brand new podcast today.
It's another white guy with a podcast.
That's what the podcast market means.
It's not really my podcast, to be honest, guys.
Whose is it?
My daughter Sienna is here right now.
It's your podcast.
I just sort of tag along as well.
You're riding the coattails of your talented daughter.
I'm doing Kris Jenner's theory, right?
That's what she did.
When you suddenly
decide that your kids
are far more talented
than you and Sienna's
got a...
And you got the
swipe card to the
studio so she needs
to get in here.
Needs to get here.
Exactly.
Needs to drive here.
So this new podcast
Sienna called?
When I Grow Up.
Yeah, now it
basically came about
because, and you
probably get the same
with your kids, and
it's quite daunting
when your kids think about the rest of your lives, like at any age and so i guess sienna would
often come back and go oh when i grow up i want to be this i want to be that and that would change
and we'd sort of have those conversations you're like this is quite daunting and so the idea behind
the podcast is if you need it just if you don't even know what you're going to be because like
what path like you just don't know what lies ahead that sounds like really like what lies ahead like something out of like a horror
movie but it just it honestly is just like you just don't know so this podcast is just kind of
to just inspire people and to show how much hard work goes into any of these amazing people talking
to inspirational females uh yeah and it's been cool um you know because i've been i've been doing
the organizing of uh setting off the emails and pestering people for them i am your role in this inspirational females. Nice. And it's been cool, you know, because I've been doing the organising of
sending off the emails
and pestering people.
Your role in this
is the admin girl.
I'm the celebrity booker.
He's my producer.
I'm the celebrity booker.
I mean,
I feature a little bit
on the podcast,
but I'm the celebrity booker.
But it's been interesting.
For many years,
you know,
we've tried to get people
on our various TV show,
radio shows.
It's amazing how quickly
people come back with a yes
when it's an earnest thing aimed at young girls,
inspiring young girls and their parents to listen to a poker.
I'm like, people that we've never got on any of the
Jono and Ben stuff will come through.
Maybe we should have said we were young girls
looking for advice.
But it is cool.
It's a really cool list of people we've got to talk to.
Eliza McCartney, Lisa Carrington, Karen Walker,
Lucy Lawless, Grace Nowicki,
you know, all these amazing people, you know, giving their time.
And you learn something from each of them along the way.
It's been really cool from their story.
And even if you don't end up doing what they do, even for me,
I'm sitting there going, oh, that's cool how they did that.
Or they learned from that.
Yeah, it's been quite enlightening.
It has been very cool.
You mentioned Karen Walker.
She's a bit of a hero of mine.
How do you go into these chats, Sienna, with these inspiring
women who have incredible careers
and accolades? Do you get nervous?
Oh, yeah. Obviously, I still get
nervous because I'm like, oh my god, these people are
so famous. Even with Eliza McCartney,
I'm like, oh my god, she's won a bronze medal
at the Olympics. It's just crazy
how far they come. But at the end of the day,
they're just people. They're honestly really nice. There's indeed's just crazy how far they come. But at the end of the day, they're just people.
And they're honestly really nice.
Like, there's indeed no people that have just been, like, mean, you know?
They've been pretty savage at the moment.
They don't mean to be, but they're nice to you.
It's been cool.
Even each one you talk to, you kind of learn a little bit,
like I said before, about the story.
Eliza McCartney, what really blew me away for her,
she was like, like a lot of kids, just tried so many different sports.
And it was a chance.
One afternoon, her friend was like,
do you want to come to this pole vaulting thing?
It's like a trial thing.
You can come along and have a go.
And she was like, oh, yeah.
You know, if she hadn't gone, oh, yeah.
Six years later, she had won bronze at the Olympics.
You know, at that moment was her, her oh, yeah moment was, you know,
she's like, you don't know what you're good at unless you try it.
And for so many of us, we don't try enough stuff you know and i'm sitting there going oh man i could
have been good at something you'll never know yeah exactly you know stuck with media so those
sort of things have been really interesting being a yes person you know to saying yes to weird
invitations like that like yeah i will give it a go so it's really cool so it's out out today
first episode with jazz yeah out today uh yeah it's really cool. So it's out today. First episode with Jazz Thornton. Yeah, out today.
That's exciting.
That's exciting.
Jazz Thornton.
He's the admin guy.
He knows the release date. I got Jazz Thornton first episode.
She's amazing.
A mental health advocate.
Incredible stories, Jazz.
And actually, we've got a little snippet to play right now.
Jazz, all the amazing things that she's done.
This was her highlight.
You've done so many amazing things from winning reality shows to speaking at the UN,
movies, books. Podcast this podcast. Yeah this podcast is number one. What is the one thing
you're most proud of? All of these things have been really cool to do and you know I would have
never imagined winning Dancing with the Stars or being able to work with Prince Harry but I think
above absolutely everything there was a moment I'll never forget where I was speaking at a
conference and there was this mother that came up to me and she was just crying. Then she just said,
my daughter, she's been in and out of psych wards for a long time. She's been really struggling. And
I got her your book. When she read it, it was the first time that she felt heard, the first time
that she felt like there was hope. And I remember kind of looking up and the daughter was there and
she's crying. And I think I cry every time that I meet people like that all I've done
is gone hey there's hope and other people have chosen to fight to stay and I think that's what's
really cool oh that's lovely yeah just thought of the first episode today when I grow up get it
whenever you get your podcast one every week have you decided what you want to be now uh I guess
you just have to find out too many options nowhanger. Too many options now. Too many options. Maybe more computers. She's looking at Dad going, whatever the opposite of that is.
Exactly.
Yeah, I think so.
The hits.
The Jono and Ben podcast.
Into the weekend.
And, you know, normally that's when everyone talks about, what are you up to?
What's your plans this weekend?
And I feel like one of the things I need to do over the weekend, and my family are involved
in, is not up there with the best weekend.
Yeah, right.
You're calling it the worst weekend.
It's not often that we get to celebrate the worst.
Everyone's always like, oh, who's done the best?
Who's won this?
Who's won that?
Let's celebrate the best.
No, sometimes you need to take a step back and celebrate the worst in life.
Now, my lovable dog, a goofball of a dog, Bo, big, white, fluffy Samoy dog.
He got some sort of little cut on his
sort of, I don't know if dogs have shins
but the equivalent spot of what would be
his shin on his leg, just a little thing
just a little sore, but they're also arms
as well aren't they, kind of arms, legs
they're very versatile, well no the front ones are the
arms and the back ones are the legs, ok well then
they're probably near his elbow there
yeah right, on his arm
yeah his forearm.
Just a little cut.
Nothing too major.
And, you know, as dogs, they like to lick at it.
You know, which is good.
That's kind of their little instinct in it.
I thought it was like their version of an antiseptic.
Yeah, yeah. But then their tongue, like their mouth,
the dog's mouth is riddled with worse than my mouth.
Yeah, you're right.
All the stuff they've got, yeah.
So he was sort of licking this
and then I think it became a bit of obsession for him.
And so he sort of started licking it more
and then sort of biting away in it
and he made it a lot worse
over the course of a couple of days.
So we took him to the vet.
The vet's like, ah, fine, we'll just put a bandage,
nice hot pink bandage around him,
sort of stretchy one,
and that'll stop him from licking it and going at it.
And he'll have a couple of days and he'll be fine.
No cone?
Usually they put a cone around their head.
Well, they didn't on this one.
Okay.
But yeah, so they were like, oh, he'll be fine.
It's on nice and tight.
Well, we came home yesterday and we're like, oh, where's the bandage?
Bandage gone.
And it must have fallen off, looked everywhere for it.
And then we're like, uh-oh, maybe the dog has eaten it
and eaten the bandage.
And so we went back to the vet.
The vet's like, well, if this has happened,
you need to be on constant watch.
Oh, constant.
You don't want to hear the words constant watch.
They're like, surprise, this is why we make them hot pink.
Yeah, to see if this thing does eventuate to come out of the backside
of the dog.
Pass through the digestive system.
And so, what, have you done up a spreadsheet of shifts?
Are you pulling different shifts overnight?
Who's looking at the shifts?
Yeah, because in the past, when the kids were little, we had a sock.
And that was like an extra tail I had to pull that out of us.
Did it have some resistance in there?
Yeah, a little bit, yeah.
Because it's quite a tight, big tug of war.
Thank you for this, Jono.
Yeah, it was like one of those
I guess you make a lot of pasta
when you put it
through that little thing
and it sort of squeezes out
or a play-doh
one of those little play-doh things
shout out to all the
emergency department people
who have to pull stuff
out of people
oh I slipped in the shower
he's got at the moment too
they're not like the cone
there's like that new thing
have you seen these floating around?
It kind of looks like he's like Saturn
There's like a big massive ring around his head
So it's not like the cone of shame
But it's still quite shameful
But then how do they
I always find it funny
When they have to navigate their way
Through tight doors
Because they're not factoring in the wide
Half a metre circle that they have
You can have a look over here
Oh wow
It's like a blue ring around him.
We keep holding him satin at home.
It looks like you can put him on the red carpet of the Met Gala.
Or it looks like he's going to go on an airplane.
It's a lot softer for them when they do lie down, which is good.
But it's still just a shame.
But he can still get to his leg, obviously.
No, he can't with that one.
So that's stopping him from getting to that.
So under the hits, 4-4-8-7.
That's what I'm doing this weekend in my family.
I think it's quite possibly the worst thing on anyone's agenda this weekend.
If you can beat it on 0800 The Hits, we've got a great prize.
AJ Hackett, Bungie.
It's all around the country, but they've got a local special in Auckland
until the 8th of September.
50% off for locals, Auckland activities, sky jump, sky walk,
Bungie, climb as well.
So if you want to win a voucher to do a jump, you don't have to
be a local of Auckland. We've got a jump with
a photo and a video worth $285
which is great. Great prize. Thank you
AJ Hackett Bungee. You can win that
because you're having a lame weekend this weekend
you can do that one weekend and have a fun weekend.
So if you're planning on sitting on your couch covered
in purple Dorito chips
staring at a wall, questioning your life
decisions. Is that what you're doing?
I think I've just described my name.
It sounds like a dream weekend to me.
Your idle weekend.
The Hits, the Jono and Ben podcast.
We wanted to know, heading into the weekend,
who's having quite possibly the lamest weekend,
kind of like mine, where I'm on watch to see if my dog actually,
well, how do I say this in the radio terms,
passes a bandage through his system.
Yeah, through the bowels.
Now the pink bandage that was on his leg that he used to use.
Hot pink.
Hot pink bandage.
Wouldn't it be adhesive?
So could it potentially stick to the insides?
Yeah, so hopefully he's going to be okay.
It's also like there's moisture would ruin the stickiness inside, wouldn't it?
We're going into great detail here.
Yeah, a lot of details.
The stomach acid should eat away. Hopefully, but yeah, if you're going into great detail here. Yeah, a lot of details. The stomach acid
should eat away.
Hopefully, but yeah,
if you have got a
lame weekend like
my weekend, then
0800 the hits.
We've got thanks
to AJ Hackett
Bungie.
We've got that
amazing prize at
Auckland Bungie
Jump with a photo
and a video.
That's up until
the end of November.
You can do that
one with $285
because they've got
their local special
at the moment,
50% off for
Aucklanders.
What have you got
this weekend, Megan?
Have you got anything lame?
You're planning on watching a semi-erotic movie with your in-laws?
Well, it's Father's Day this weekend,
so I'm not watching a semi-erotic movie with them, no.
Don't you hate that when you're watching a movie
and it all of a sudden takes a bit of a gear change
and you're sitting with the in-laws and you're like, oh.
Do you do that weird thing where you're like suddenly very still?
You're like, don't move, don't move.
I'm very aware of my body and every movement I'm making
yeah
or go I've got to put the jug on
everyone's sitting there
in silence
thinking exactly the same thing
this is awkward
yeah
you watch Bridget
he watched Bridget
with his mum
yeah
just me and my mum
she was watching it
and I was like
oh I'll watch a bit of this
I had a cup of tea in my hand
at Dilmar at the time
and then I was like
I need to go get another one
because it's getting
a little saucy
you can't leave
in the sexy bits because then it makes it even more awkward.
No one spoke about that again, actually.
Dylan, you think you're having the worst weekend in New Zealand?
Yeah, well, I'm going to be sitting there by myself.
My partner's at work, and last week I had a couple of sick days with a pretty bad sickness,
so I've got no money to go and have fun.
Just sitting there alone.
Yep, just sitting there wondering
what I'm going to do, twiddling my thumbs.
Oh, that sounds depressing. I see why we don't do
the worst weekends. It makes my heart
sad.
I think I'd rather be on dog watch.
Well, you can. I can drop them off if you want.
Okay, that's what Dylan's
doing this weekend. We'll pop Dylan on hold. Stephen, you can. I can drop them off if you want. Okay, that's what Dylan's doing this weekend. We'll pop Dylan on hold.
Stephen, depress us.
What bleak things are you up to this weekend?
I am having an operation on Monday.
So I cannot eat anything on Sunday.
I've got to take that yucky bell prep bloody stuff.
And so I have to sit next to this throne.
I can't do it. Have you heard about this
stuff? No. It's aggressive
on your bowels, shall we say.
That's what you need to give the dog.
Yeah.
Tell me if it works on
Monday.
So Stephen's spending the whole of
Sunday on a toilet.
Aggressively.
You don't want those two words So Stephen's spending the whole of Sunday on a toilet. Aggressively. Okay.
You don't want those two words combined.
Weirdly, I'm going to think about you this Sunday.
I am, Stephen.
Good luck.
Pop Stephen on off.
The team of five million are behind you, Stephen.
Jeez, yeah.
Okay, so we've got two options so far.
This is going to be tough to pick.
Have we got to take one more call or are they going to confuse us?
Probably, but we'll take one.
Mate, Kendrick, you're on.
Worst
weekend? I notice it's all the males having the
worst weekend. What's
happening this weekend, Kendrick?
Yeah, not much.
Just having a quiet one. Okay. Still beefing with
Drake?
See what he's done there.
He is having a bad weekend.
Him and Drake not getting along.
I don't think this is Kendrick Lamar, Johnny.
All right, Stephen, can I ask you what the operation was too?
We didn't ask you on Monday.
What are you having?
A colonoscopy and an endoscope.
So they're coming from both ends.
I'm being spit-roasted.
And he's got a spit-roasting Monday, Ben.
Okay, who wins the bungee jump?
It has to be Stephen, right?
Stephen, when your bowels sort themselves out,
you can head along to AJ Hackett in Auckland
to do a bungee jump at some stage.
Don't go this weekend.
Yeah, don't put it on the agenda this weekend.
Oh, brilliant.
Okay, then.
Thank you very much.
Good luck.
And Dylan, I tell you what,
we'll get you out of Hell Pizza.
That'll fill in 20 minutes of your weekend, all right?
He's fasting.
Thank you very much.
The Hits, the Jono and Ben podcast.
The Fern, Maya Wilson, morena.
Morena.
Now, ANZ, helping the Cancer Society make a daffodil day count,
this daffodil day, you can text to donate to 442 to get the link to donate.
And you've teamed up with them, Maya, because it's special to you, all right?
Cancer Society, I've been lucky enough to work with ANZ over the years,
and they have partnered up with Cancer Society for something like 34 years.
How incredible to donate to such a good cause.
24 million, I was reading, that they've raised over the years.
It's incredible.
Absolutely heartwarming to a cause that actually changes people's lives.
So for me and my story, my mother had lung cancer in 2020,
had a third of her lung taken out.
And prior to that, my grandmother's had breast cancer, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and leukemia was the thing that took her away from us.
So for me, I'm just really proud to be able to partner up with such a heartwarming cause that is Daffodil Day.
And yeah.
Sure, your grandmother would be very proud of you doing such a thing.
Because, you know, cancer obviously affects the people who are dealing with it but also the wider group yeah
definitely that's what i've learned in my journey is it's not just about the individual but it's the
journey of whanau friends uh the milkman down the road who might need to pop down and drop off some
few groceries so or whether it just you need a helping hand to just sit with
you in treatments uh cancer society awesome they they do things like counseling that's one of the
services that they offer whether you need a driver to get to your appointments why not donate because
every single daffodil counts that's the whole point of this campaign is no matter how big or
how small get to the supermarkets where they've got their little collections going on
or go online to donate, go into an ANZ branch.
One in three Kiwis, I think, are affected by cancer.
One in three?
Yeah, either with themselves or someone they know.
So I think everyone will know someone or something.
So it is such an important thing to get in behind.
When long to see you guys play?
Jeez, in real life, it is relentless netball.
It is so quick.
I'm surprised you didn't
get on the court.
Do you know what?
I'm sure we can arrange that.
I think I was out
at the Bruce Pullman centre
and I think I was
because my daughter was like
oh I really want to get
some autographs and stuff
but then she went over
the other side of the court
at the end of the game
and then I was just left there
standing there getting
autographs from you.
That's what he says.
He doesn't have a daughter,
Maya.
He just roped someone else along, I swear.
I was like, can you sign my chest, Maya?
Is it weird when adults are waiting at the end of the game to get autographs?
Well, when they look like you, yes.
I think that's a telltale sign.
Were you like, first year of high school, you made the senior team?
Yes.
Really?
Incredible.
Left school very first year.
I went to play for the Pulse in Wellington. And that year I made the Silver Fern team. Yes. Really? Incredible. Left school very first year. I went to play for the Pulse in Wellington
and that year I made the Silver Ferns.
Wow.
I've been running this gig,
I think this is nine seasons now.
So were you 18 playing for the Silver Ferns?
Yes.
Jeez.
Yeah.
That's wild.
Pretty cool, hey?
Yeah.
That's pretty cool.
And a scholarship you got offered to the US
for basketball as well,
which you turned down.
It would have been a tough decision to go,
which pathway do I take?
Well, as I've been watching the Olympicslympics i have uh wondered whether i made the
right call and i i i definitely did but if new zealand ever made it into the olympics you best
be sure i'm going to try and give it a crack i'd love to be an olympian oh well definitely
it's all about things yellow a and z so john i'm going to see if you can describe i've got some
little notes here famous yellow things okay you've got to try and describe them for Maya to guess.
Okay.
We're going to see how many you can do in 60 seconds.
Oh, you're going to hand them over to me.
Okay.
Okay.
Here we go.
You're not allowed to say the actual name of what it is.
Okay.
But we'll see how we go with this one.
Okay.
Famous yellow things.
Okay.
Oh, it lives in a thing under the sea.
Spongebob.
Boom.
There's one.
Oh, you put it on, usually with ham sandwiches, quite spicy.
Butter.
Hot English.
Mustard.
Yes. Well done. He's the father of the Simpsons
Homer Simpson
He's a big giant bird
Big bird
Oh sour
Lemon
Yes
You're on fire
Oh it's the official
Flower of the day
You're representing
Daffodil
There we go
Let's see a couple more
Great for potassium
Banana Oh they grew They're little Minions representing? Daffodils! There we go, let's see a couple more. Great for potassium. Banana.
Groot, Groot, their little minions. Last one! Pokemon. Pikachu. Yes!
That competitive side of me came out there. You were like staring me dead in the eyes.
I was like dropping all the cards and everything, it was high pressure.
Maya Wilson, hey thanks thanks for coming in.
Congratulations on being ambassador for such a wonderful cause, Daffodil Day.
Donate, you guys.
Every Daffodil count.
The hits.
The Jono and Ben podcast.
A bit of a back story.
There's a website that is just blazing through the office like wildfire at the moment with a certain demo.
High quality.
Don't say a certain demo. It says you. Who's getting into it too? I'm involved too. I'm just saying, I'm with a certain demo. High quality Don't say a certain demo. It's you
who's getting into it too. I'm involved too.
I'm just saying I'm part of the demo. No, you
were going to say it was the females. I'm in
there as well. Okay, I'm in this demo.
Deep in the demo. It's a
website offering high
quality fashion brands at
an unbelievably low price.
Yeah. How legitimate is
this website? What do you mean by legitimate?
Like, are the goods legitimate
or are they from the legitimate brands?
Yeah, have the brands,
have the brands gone,
hey, you know what?
I don't think the brands
have ticked it off.
Gotcha.
Let's just say,
no radio show
is going to have
more luxurious handbags
than this one right here.
Excuse me.
Okay.
I have not bought anything.
I have not bought anything. it's the kind of website
they do a really good job where they're like describing the brand of let's say a particular
shirt and one that was written was popular miniature man playing polo on a horse brand
that'll be that'll be the description or if you took the h off hoochie and replaced the first H with a G,
you might get this brand.
Yeah, gotcha.
Okay.
Yeah.
So I, it's like, but it's not only that.
It's got like everything.
Like, you know, it's got even like goods for your house.
Like I think lighting and stuff.
It's got everything.
And at prices that you probably, I imagine you want to be paying for these things.
Should we say prices we're not used to for those brands.
Yeah.
And so I am a big fan of online shopping in general.
I have dedicated a horrible amount of time of my life this week to this website.
Oh, yeah.
Not only at home, at work too.
You know, to Taylor Grace, all you're looking through the thing.
Look at this.
Well, you got everyone started on it.
I am pretty much responsible.
Sorry, I did bring it to the show
yeah
I haven't looked at it yet
no
he's too scared
to order counterfeit stuff
I don't
I wouldn't
I'm conscious
I'd be worrying
out and about
and then get photos
on social media
and be like
this is not a genuine top
it's not a genuine
it's something I'm
going to get tried
I just can't do it
I know I do feel like
I can't do it
it's like those
people's faces on there
and I'm like
did I get permission for that person to do that?
I love that we think that the FBI and Interpol
are going to be scrolling through Ben's Instagram.
Hold on, hold on.
That doesn't look like an official LeBlanc James singlet.
If I bought it from something and then I'm part of the problem,
I feel like.
If you're starting to suddenly wear like a full-blown Gucci tracksuit,
we're all going to ask questions.
I don't think you're going to get away with it.
But I have like...
You look good in it, though.
I have like 50 things in my cart just sitting there looking at me.
And my husband was like, you need to stop.
Because every night this week, it's got to like 10.30,
and he was like, you have to be up very soon.
Like, get off this website.
So he's put a cease and desist, like you said, on the website for you.
He actually said to me,
you need to calm down.
Oh.
And I was like,
okay,
take a look at myself in the mirror.
But you're like,
look how much I'm saving.
I know.
Oh,
honestly,
honestly.
Yeah.
It's,
it's,
yeah.
I haven't bought,
I haven't bought,
well,
no,
that's a lie.
I bought something,
but I haven't received it yet.
Oh.
Yeah.
Because I'm very scared.
Oh,
I didn't think you'd be the only thing being
desisted around that website
Well yeah true, and it arrives with
three arm holes or something like that
on the top of your know why
It's like walking down a shady street in Bangkok
and everyone going come into this shop
and you're like yes, I've gone into all of it
Well yeah
The hits, the Jono and Ben podcast
Today is Daffodil Day ANZ helping the Cancer Society to make every Daffodil count
with the ANZ donation station.
A big initiative that the hits are part of today in the building
with a whole lot of other radio stations trying to have a day of entertainment
you can listen to on iHeartRadio and fun,
but also raising a whole lot of money for the Cancer Society.
Yeah, and Georgia Bird who actually hosts the day show on ZM,
one of our affiliate brands.
I've always wanted to say one of our affiliate brands.
She's gone through her own journey with cancer and joins us in the studio now.
Big day, mate.
Yeah, so this is why today is probably going to be a bit up and down emotional-wise.
I've been preparing for it.
I've been like, get your tears out early girl um but nah i a couple of years ago it was 2022 found out
that i had a thing called a myxoid lipopsychoma so that's cancer of the fat and i found it in my
leg through a seven by three centimeter lump um which at the time might i say was going hundies
at the gym so i was like oh it's just muscle build up yeah
you spoke to me about this you're like i don't know what this lump is and she was like mega
fitspo and we like we just thought maybe it was like a little like ingrown hair or like
we went through so many things and in the end you went and got it checked out yeah the only reason
and this is this is why i'm a massive advocate for, as I know a lot of people are now, but going to get things checked out
is because I waited a wee while being like, oh, use a foam roller.
Do not do that.
Don't ever do that.
Oh, did you try to roll it out, did you?
Well, because I was like, maybe it's just like, I don't know.
Because she was gymming hard.
Yeah, right.
It's like a hematoma sort of situation or something.
I'm not like a, I'm not a, you know, gymbo, but whatever.
But then I, about a month later, thought I popped a hernia.
Went to the doctor, got that checked.
That was me being dramatic.
Because when I got referred for an ultrasound, they did both that and my leg.
That came back as drama queen.
The other one came back as, it shows up as bright white in an ultrasound.
And then that was a Friday afternoon.
And they were basically like, this doesn't look good.
Monday, your GP will get in touch with you.
And then we'll go further from there.
Oh, dear.
What was that weekend like for you?
Let's just say a few wines were had.
But the Monday rolled around.
I was actually at work on air.
And I got the phone call from my GP basically saying,
we're going to have to move this forward.
And within a week, I had appointments. I um biopsies everything so it was oh my gosh
it was full on because I talk about one in three uh New Zealanders I feel like everyone's got a
story of you know like personally affected or family affected and stuff like that but how is
it when it's yourself like that that phone call like John I said that weekend we're just and at
such a young age you don't really expect this to happen. It's weird.
It's a weird transition as well in a family dynamic for you and your parents.
Because everything you've done in your life, your parents teach you, right?
Like they're the ones leading you and guiding you.
And in this situation, I had to flip that and kind of say to my parents and family and
friends, this is how I need you to be because that's how I can be stronger people at work knew obviously but none of the listeners did because I just needed that
escape to talk about anything but that because at home I was probably in my own thoughts 24 7 so
what do you so you teach people how to treat you I remember you told me and I was because we thought
you had like a bruise or something and then you told me we were at work and I was because we thought you had like a bruise or something and then you told me we were
at work and I was like I didn't know what to say yeah I know I know what's the best thing for people
to do when someone's like hey I've got cancer it's weird because there's this feeling that goes over
you when you know that you when the moment you say the C word it gives me chills thinking about it
yeah you know that people's faces are gonna drop I just forget about it now like even when I moment you say the C word. Oh, it gives me chills thinking about it. Yeah, you know that people's faces are going to drop.
I just forget about it now.
Like even when I'm, you know, wearing shorts or whatever,
I forget about the scar and then someone will be like,
whoa, what'd you do there?
And I'm like, well, I'm about to dampen the mood.
And I usually lead with that because then I'm like,
but we're all good.
I had cancer and blah, blah, blah.
So it is, it's a weird situation to bring up
because you do instantly get reactions from people.
Well, gee, a hell of a journey you went through as well.
And so everything's fine now?
You're clear?
We can't say that.
So that's the interesting thing too.
Like I'm two years now.
So I'm three months left for checkups.
Then it will go to four to six months.
But you can't say you're clear or cured until five years.
And that's because, so with my specific cancer,
it is cancer of the fat, but it travels through the blood.
So if it was to go anywhere else, it could be my lungs,
it could be my kidneys or your main organs.
And if it goes to those places and hopefully small,
if that was to be the case, they'd catch it earlier and then work on that.
But if it was bigger, and this is why all the scans are important,
then you're on the journey again.
The Hits, the Jono and Ben podcast.
Yesterday was a really fun day.
We've got a fun game we want to play with you right now, Jono,
that Megan and I have just come up with.
Yeah, here we go.
What is it?
Well, yesterday I want to play a quick game. I've just come up with. Yeah. Here we go. What is it? Well.
Yesterday I want to play a quick game.
So we've got some balloons left over from producer Taylor's baby shower yesterday.
I want to play a quick game with you, Jono.
Shut your eyes.
I've got a balloon and Megan's got a balloon.
You've got to work out which one of us is singing with the helium.
Okay.
Okay.
Okay.
So here we go.
Okay.
So who's singing right now?
Hold me now.
I'm six feet from the edge of nothing again.
Maybe six feet. I'm going to pick this.
Ben.
It's so far down.
Is it Ben?
No, it was Megan.
Oh, was it Megan?
It was me, you idiot.
That's a fun game.
It's really good.
Go again, go again.
It's really good.
Oh, no, hang on.
Why did I go to Creed?
Oh, man.
Okay, do one more round.
I'll try and figure it out.
Okay.
I want to push it, baby.
When I win.
I think I've lost the helium, guys.
Oh, that's definitely been.
Even through the helium, I can hear the goofy laugh.
Okay, these two islands are the same.
Now you need to suck more in.
Oh, no, it's gone, guys.
It's gone.
Islands in the stream.
That is what we are.
After you've been sucking helium, you try and keep your voice going.
I know.
You're just that little bit longer, eh?
Now it's kind of, yeah.
Run away with me.
Oh, there's a game that'll never be back.
Throw another word.
We can rely on each other.
Isn't there a helium shortage?
Really?
Yeah.
It's because it's all in Megan.
It's all in Megan right now.
Again, the gift that keeps on giving, the baby shower birthday.
Oh, so good.
That was yesterday.
So why do they make helium so fun?
If they're like, don't suck in helium, well, don't make it fun and enjoyable.
That's when you think about it,
what is it doing to you that it affects your voice
like that? It's not good. Not good. Not recommended.
That's for sure.
The Jono and Ben Podcast.
Jono and Ben's Who's Your Father?
Yeah, this Father's Day, we want to know who's your father
and thanks to farmers, we're giving
away a Star Wars pack.
It includes happy socks, a Lego Millennium
Falcon, and a lightsaber as well, valued at
over $200 each if the person can correctly identify who their father is.
Yes, we have Maria on the phone.
Good morning to you.
Hello.
Lovely to have you on, Maria.
Good morning.
Yeah, how's the week been for you?
Pretty hectic.
Busy?
What are you running?
Why are you so busy?
I work with
Adults with Learning Disabilities and we're currently
planning our 10 year celebration so I'm all over
the place trying to film things and get celebration
things happening.
Rewarding job that you do I'm sure but
probably a pain for us to be calling
you right in the middle of this week.
Is there anything we can do to help?
We can maybe send you some
streamers for the 10-year celebration?
Hey, we would love that.
We're doing a big photo booth for them.
So, yes, that would be amazing.
Oh, Jono.
There you go, Jono.
Jono, you've got to follow through on this, all right?
Put a note down.
You've done one of those things.
Ah, do you need a ride to the airport?
Yeah, I'll do that.
So, Jono's going to get some streamers sort of the weekend.
Listen, I won't lie.
It's probably a 50-50 as to whether the streamers will turn up or not.
But I'll try and find something.
It's all that matters.
That's right.
The thought.
Hear that?
The thought that counts.
All right, Maria.
Now, you've got to correctly identify your dad in a lineup of dads.
What's your father's name?
Dennis.
Okay, so Dennis is going to be one of these three voices.
Let's see if you can pick out correctly who he is.
Here is the first one.
I am your father.
Here is voice number two. I am your father. Here is voice number two.
I am your father. Here is voice number three. I am your father. Oh the last two sounded quite similar to me but hopefully you know. Do you need to hear any again? Can we go two and three again?
Okay certainly here's number two. I am your father. And here's number three. I am your father.
I'm pretty sure it's number two.
We're going to lock in number two.
Dennis, were you voice number two?
Dennis?
Yeah.
Were you voice?
He's like, I can't remember.
I don't know, Dennis.
I don't know. Were you voice number two there, Dennis?
I think so.
I think so.
Good enough for us.
We're not sure either.
We think it is.
I don't know.
The milkman might be my father.
What a way to find out, too, in a comical farmer's promotion.
Well, who would you like to give the Star Wars prize back to,
the milkman or Dennis?
Yeah, that's what I mean.
What year was this?
Dennis, there's a lot of questions.
But congratulations.
You've got yourself.
Thanks to your daughter, Maria.
A Star Wars prize pack for Father's Day, so enjoy that.
Oh, he's busy on the building site,
so I appreciate him taking the time to answer that call.
Good on you, Dennis.
Well, it's for him anyway.
Yeah, that's true.
Probably going to go to his grandson.
Dennis is like, what?
I understand, Dennis, your last name is Wood.
You work in building, and your
nickname is what? Woody.
Or Woodsy.
Hunk of Wood. Hunk of Wood.
Yeah, I like Hunk of Wood. Yep, you're right there.
Hunk of Wood. Jeez, you were only
destined for one profession, really. Or that or
forestry was the two options for you, Dennis?
Okay, no.
Whatever, mate.
The slogan for the company
is build with wood
oh that's wonderful

The Hits
the Jono and Ben
podcast
The Hits and the Jono and Ben podcast.
The Hits and Dilma do try it.
Dilma, great supporters of the show.
We really do appreciate having them on board.
Proud supporters?
Would you say proud partners?
It's not for me to say.
I'm proud that they're partners.
Sometimes other shows are like, proud partners, our proud partners.
We've never once been told to say proud partners.
I don't know how proud they are, but we're proud to have them on the show.
And they're saying do try it.
And we're saying if people will try it, our radio show.
And we give a test for someone who doesn't necessarily listen to the show.
They've got to listen throughout the week.
And then on a Friday, we call them back. And thanks to Dilmar, they can split $1,000 if they get all the questions correct
and they get a Dilmar Tee prize back. Yeah, if you'd like to enter for next week can be a friend
family member colleague whatever someone in your life who doesn't listen to the show just head to
the hits.co.nz. This week it was Gemma who's joining us back on the phone how are you Gemma?
Hey I'm very good thanks and yourself? You're good lovely to hear your dulcet tones again Gemma. And you nominated your boss,
Jo.
Yes.
And how's it been?
Without Jo here,
how do you think
she's found the show?
I think she's
really enjoyed it.
I've definitely
enjoyed it.
It's been good
having the hits on
in the office
every day.
Okay,
now we'll bring
Jo in.
Jo,
welcome.
High and low
of the show
this week.
What would you say?
The high has been listening to everybody and great team you've got there.
The low has been anticipating all the phone calls.
Oh, yes.
We've been calling you quite constantly.
Sorry about that.
We'll be out of your life next week.
Don't you worry.
I mean, maybe you'll continue to listen, but we won't be calling you.
That's for sure.
Okay?
All right.
Now, it's the moment of judgement. It's judgement
day.
Now, five questions. They all
pertain to something or some things
that went on over the last five days.
Pertain. Good word, pertain.
You use the word pertain. That was really good.
At any stage, you can phone
a friend who's already on the line for you
and ask for her
thoughts on an answer, but I reckon you
might do alright with these. Okay, Joe, it's
all on you. Five from five, you get
the thousand, alright? Okay.
Shono complained
of sore legs and sore butt cheeks.
What was he doing at
three o'clock in the morning? Sprinting.
Yay! Well done.
One from one.
Just so you know, Jo
Still a deep, deep, deep pain inside my booty cheeks
Deep inside
Megan's husband Andrew complained of an ick
Something she was doing before bed
While brushing her teeth
What was that?
Closing her eyes
Two from two
Which is unusual
I saw you practicing it
as we were talking about it.
It's a weird look, Megan.
You know, I tried it this morning.
I tried it this morning.
And how'd it go?
Actually, I didn't mind it.
Did you quite like it?
I didn't mind it, yeah.
It takes away all the other senses.
You're not looking at yourself
in the mirror like,
geez, I look tired.
Yeah, yeah.
Okay, third question.
You're doing well.
We spoke to Matt
on Thursday's show
who is blind.
He broke a world record for doing what?
Surfing.
Yeah.
There we go.
Surfing, the biggest wave in the world.
Well done.
Yeah, a bit of hesitation there, Joe.
But you nailed it.
Because I expected it to be far more complicated than it was.
Oh, hey.
I was just shading your question.
Sorry, mate.
It's 6.03 on.
No, no.
Okay.
What did they make me do
This is Ben talking right now
What did they make me do
When I called my dad this week
What did I have to say
You had to call him daddy
Daddy
He was very confused
And finally
On Thursday's show
We almost had a winner
In our game
The Alpha Quiz
At 7.45
Instead of West Side Story, what did Jamie say?
We stand.
Let's have a listen.
Which popular musical was based on a modern-day Romeo and Juliet?
West Side Story?
There we go.
You've got the $1,000, Jo.
Well done.
Well done, Jojo.
