Cheers to Dilma, making the world a better tea.
How you doing?
Good mate, how are you?
Loving life.
Are you in Amsterdam?
Yes I am mate.
Just sort of sounds like a wild place for you to be.
Now last time we spoke to you, obviously stumbling in, blew up massive worldwide and it was huge, all over the world.
Has it really sunk in? Because I know it didn't really happen overnight for you, it was sort of a long road to get there but is it sunk in now the success you've had oh yeah
absolutely i just want to make uh more success now and we've got a lot more music coming out and uh
i've just broken my leg so it's a bit harder but uh how did you break your leg was it during your
show i was at tomorrowland and i didn't get to actually play it tomorrowland because the day
before i was going on stage with a friend, Netsky.
I was walking to that stage
and then there was like a hill
and I tried to take a shortcut to the stage
to beat the crowd.
Turns out there was a reason
the crowd weren't going.
Because the grass was really slippery
and I shattered my leg four places
and I can show you.
Oh, wow.
It was nice and elevated.
And so you went over there
to play a music festival,
but you couldn't play the music festival because you broke your leg at the music festival.
Yeah, it's all right.
You know, I've got a studio in Amsterdam, so it's really fun.
Yeah, it's been good.
Yeah, nice.
You are probably the most casual dude I think we've ever interviewed.
I love it.
You couldn't get a more laid back individual.
Maybe Amsterdam's rubbing off on you. I think it. You couldn't get a more laid-back individual. Maybe Amsterdam's rubbing off on you.
I think so.
Hey, now, obviously, you've teamed up with Dean Lewis
to perform a song.
Now, can I apologise?
Because for years, we've said Crowded House are a New Zealand band.
And, you know, Neil Finn is the front man for Crowded House.
But there's two Aussies, one Kiwi.
I don't know why we've claimed this as being a New Zealand band
formed in Melbourne.
I honestly think we're all friends.
Yeah, that was formed in Melbourne, but then, you know,
I think it's just a really good band made from two of the best countries in the world.
Yeah, good on you.
That's a great way to look at it.
That's not the way we've been looking at it for decades.
We're like, there's bloody Aussies that are taking this.
Did you have to ask the band's permission, and what do they think of your version?
I don't actually know.
Obviously, I had to ask for permission and stuff.
They were happy with the version,
but I haven't actually talked to the band at all,
so see what they actually think of the version.
What would you say if we had the Finns here right now?
I'd be like, no way.
Yeah, you'd be right.
Yeah, you'd be right.
We don't.
We could have.
A better radio show would organise that, right?
Yeah, that would have been a great thing to do.
To be honest, I did think of it last night.
I was like, oh, we're never going to.
I mean, we've had Nielsen Motts maybe in our 20 years.
So, you know, he's like New Zealand music royalty.
But hey, next time, all right, we'll line that up.
You know, you spent a lot of time in the Northern Territory and Darwin and stuff like that, you know.
And you worked on, you know, farms and stuff as well, and then kind of wanted to give music another crack. It must be kind of
good to know it's kind of worked out. Yeah, 100%. And, you know, there was a long time when I was
broke and stuff as well. Like even when, man, my missus had her first child, I was like stressing,
I was like, what am I going to do? Barely covering rent and stuff, you know. So looking back now,
it was like the biggest blessing of my life. Like like just amazing to be able to support my family and uh you know if anyone needs help in the family
or friends and stuff i can i'm there for them i imagine when you're like i'm gonna pursue my
career as a dj it might have been a bit of a hard sell for the family was it mate i was in uni
studying to be a music teacher and I remember distinctively that I went to
Darwin because my favorite uncle lived up there he was a huge inspiration when I was a
kid he went into the army and he was an actor for a bit you know so two years
into my uni I was like hey uncle Scott I'm quitting uni he goes why I'm going
back to DJing and he goes no you're not idiot and I said no I am I'm gonna run night goals and I'm going to make it and now yeah
I think he's happy now
good on you
I thought you were
going to be like
I thought it was going
to be a real inspirational
story where he was like
you go and chase your dreams
nah mate
none of my family
said that mate
they said stay in uni
and now they're here
Cyril now we've got
a bit of a treat for you
as being mentioned
for whatever reason
for decades we've believed Crowded House
are a New Zealand band that Australia stole off us.
So we thought it only fair that we steal an Australian classic
and we remix it.
Yeah, done.
But we've made a version, a new version for us
of the Home and Away theme tune
with some Alf Stewart bits in between, all right?
Don't love, blame and throw me!
Now you listen to me and you listen real good i tell you what if
you think you can wiggle your way out of this one you better think again boy oh give me a break i
need one of your flaming lectures get in here you pair of flaming glass that's it i've had enough
if you're not out of here in 10 seconds i'll throw you out your arms don't let me go I want to stay
forever
closer
and stay
home
and home
that's enough
out of you
I don't need
your flaming
lip as well
what do you
reckon
Cyril
our debut
that's perfect
I love
how it's
doing
oh mate
always nice
to catch up
congratulations
on the new
single
we're loving
it here on the heads with. We're loving it here
on The Heads with Dean Lewis
and hopefully we can talk
to you again soon.
Thanks, guys.

I really appreciate it.
