Jessica Melboy, she's an Australian singing superstar. She's one of the judges on The Voice Australia. You would have seen her on TV. She's got a new single out at the moment with Jason Derulo. It's called Give You Love. She's going to be in New Zealand next year as well on her first performance in New Zealand. And she joins us over Zoom now.

Jessica, how are you? Yeah, really well. Really well, thank you. It's getting hot here in Sydney, so we'll see how we go. I feel like I know you. Your song plays at the gym I go to all the time. Right here, right now. I am right here, right now.

They go to fitness first, and they constantly tell me, they text me,

oh, my God, your song's playing right now. I can't get away from you. I'm inescapable. And you're coming to New Zealand as well. You're going to be performing in person, not just at gyms, on TVs around the place. Yours forever tour. First time touring in New Zealand, is that right?

You've performed here before. I've never toured before, so I'm really anxious. But at the same time, it's been a long time coming. I have been promising my NZ fans that I'll be coming over. So now I'm making it a reality. It's happening on the 11th of May. Are you good friends with Stan Walker? Does he get a free double pass to the show?

His whole family. I know he's got a big one. Bring the whole fan over. Jessica Melboy, of course, Kiwi audiences also know you from The Voice Australia, which is a huge show here as well as in Australia. Unfortunately, we can't claim those ones. The motion sickness, does that get to you after a day of filming, of constantly spinning? Oh, yeah. Well, we spend pretty much for three days, over three days filming the blinds. Yeah, just spinning around for three days straight. Yeah, yeah.

Oh, that's cool. And half-heartedly played the trumpet with his mouth. Yeah, you do it a lot better. But yeah, you have teamed up with Jason Derulo, new single as well. He's on The Voice with you. When did you broach that with him? Did you like, him did you like hey do you want to do a hit yeah he was around in the in the green room area or just thought oh i've got to play this track play the track to him he

was his eyes instantly kind of lit up and and then i mentioned to him well i'm thinking about it as a duet would you would you like to be on it and And he's so kind and so loving and he's really respectful. And at first he was, oh, no, this is your song. Like, are you going to release it? And I was like, oh, well, yeah, I want to release it, but would you be on it? And, yeah, two days later his vocals were on it. Now, Beyonce, you've opened up for Beyonce before.

Yeah, her father at the time was managing and was calling out for support acts. And I put my hand up and I thought, oh, why not? I may not get it. I may get it. And I had a personal call from Beyonce's father. Wow. Yeah. She basically said, yes, I'd love just to be on the tour and help us out. And yeah, I was doing every show in Australia. It was really, really cool. And there was a moment where I was doing a sound check and I'd seen her silhouette up in the stands of the stadium. And someone pointed out that she was actually watching your rehearsal. And yeah, it was a pretty kind of surreal moment because I

stopped singing at one point. I was like, oh my God, I can't do this because she's listening. But I continued eventually and then got to meet her. What do you say to Beyonce? I imagine she's one of your heroes. Oh, yeah, absolutely. I basically said, hi, hello. Good start. Great start.

Introduced myself. Textbook. Oh, no. Rock solid. Introduced myself. Incredible. Textbook. Oh, no. Yeah, it was pretty surreal. But, yeah, she just thanked me. I had many, many thank yous and, yeah, and wished her well. Incredible story.
