Starting point is 00:00:00 The Jono, Ben and Megan podcast, thanks to Dilma. Goodness really does taste great. Dilma, making the world a better team. Nicole, she hosts a radio show in New York, and we like to catch up with her every week to talk about entertainment news and what's going on in the world. She joins us on the giant screen right now. Nicole, good morning.
Starting point is 00:00:17 Good morning. Nice to see you. It's been a while since we caught up with you. I know. Look at you guys. You go away on holiday. You don't invite me. You don't write. You don't call. Nothing know. Look at you guys. You go away on holiday. You don't invite me. You don't write.
Starting point is 00:00:25 You don't call. Nothing. Do we look refreshed? You can see us on Zoom. You do. Yeah. You do. And I did think that you guys were going to show up to chat with me today and all be speaking
Starting point is 00:00:36 in unison like the twin New Zealanders. Did that make it over to New York, the Australian twins? Oh, yeah. We couldn't get enough of them. We were obsessed. So good. He's got a gun. Run.
Starting point is 00:00:49 He's got a gun. They're so adorable, too. I know. And at first I was like, oh, my God, do they dress the same? And then my producer was like, no, I think they just were in uniforms for whatever their job was. But I thought maybe they were twins that like always dress the same. Now, Lorde, at the moment,
Starting point is 00:01:08 she is New Zealand's princess and released a brand new song. And we've seen footage of her in New York at like midnight or something, performing the song live to hundreds of people. Yeah. You know, that happens sometimes. I feel like it happens here in New York City
Starting point is 00:01:22 more than like anywhere. Like Ed Sheeran was doing that for a while. Like when he was in town, he just sometimes. I feel like it happens here in New York city more than like anywhere. Like, um, Ed Sheeran was doing that for a while. Like when he was in town, he just was showing up in like random streets, hopping on a car and playing the guitar. Like it's definitely a place where you can do that. And it's so fun. No one would turn up here.
Starting point is 00:01:36 Yeah. Cause she put a photo out on her Instagram or something or social media and see the time and just a spot of somewhere in New York and said, this is where, and she, I think they were expecting maybe like a hundred people, but it was thousands turned up. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:48 And like, that's what's dangerous. It's better if they don't like give a little up, like a, a little tease and they don't say, Hey, I'm going to be here or give like a date and a time. Like that's the dangerous thing.
Starting point is 00:01:57 That's when it gets shut down by the police here. It's got to be more organic. You just show up. And there's, in Washington square park, there's always tons of people there. It's always a party there. So she would have been fine even if she didn't is the is the song but is the song big over there because you're saying it's number one on it on the charts
Starting point is 00:02:12 on the spotify chats in the ues not here yet like we're not playing it yet i know that we will you know it's hard even after her last album like nothing's ever going to compare to pure heroin it was like that first album was so like such a masterpiece that i think it's going to compare to Pure Heroine. It was like that first album was so, like such a masterpiece that I think it's going to always be hard for her. But she's so talented. She's like Savanti. Like she's like a musical genius. So yeah, I like the song though.
Starting point is 00:02:33 I got her to tattoo her name on my arm, which is right next to my kid's names on my arm. She did that at the Music Awards. But that doesn't get you interviews with her or anything like that. Wait a minute. Wait, that's a real tattoo? That's her signature there.
Starting point is 00:02:46 I've got my two daughters, Sienna and Indy, and then I've got Lorde's name, the most successful of my daughters. Not his wife. Not my wife. No, that's a boner. Not his wife. But, yeah, but that doesn't get you interviews or anything. I thought maybe in the future that would get me exclusive,
Starting point is 00:03:00 sort of maybe in a follow on Instagram. No, nothing so far. But, hey, she was lovely about it. Restraining order. Yeah. Yes, perhaps a follow on Instagram. No, nothing so far. But hey, she was lovely about it. A restraining order. Yeah. Yes, perhaps a restraining order. Yeah, if I was your wife, I would not be cool that you had your daughter's, your pretend third daughter and not me.
Starting point is 00:03:14 Well, she's doing great. Every time she comes back in, I'm like, I don't regret that decision at all. She's a favorite family member. It was such a funny story because we were hosting the musicals and we ambushed her and we're like, oh, we knew what we were going to do that Ben was going to get it tattooed live on the show. And then we're like, oh, Lord. She was going to sign something.
Starting point is 00:03:30 Yeah, I was like, Lord, here's a favor. Can you just sign my mate? Both of us knew he was going to end up getting it tattooed and she started signing his forehead. Well, not forehead. And then she went to the neck and I was like, no, no, I can't get a neck tattoo. Like, I'm not quite there. And then I was like, oh, no, just do my arms. She was like, okay. And then we brought out the neck, and I was like, no, no, I can't get a neck tattoo. Like, I'm not quite there.
Starting point is 00:03:45 And then I was like, oh, no, just do my arms. She was like, okay. And then we brought out the tattooist, and she's like, oh, my God, you don't have to do this. I'm like, no, I want to. But that's why we moved you away from the forehead. She's like, that makes a lot more sense now. Oh, my God. I wish it had gone on your forehead.
Starting point is 00:03:59 That would have made this story way better. Well, Nicole, hey, thanks so much. Great to see you again, and you look happy. Good to see you. And, hey, and our update for much. Great to see you again. And you look happy to see you. And hey, and our update for you, the Warriors are doing well. They're top four at the moment. Our team, the Warriors, you've seen one game. You haven't seen the winner game, but that's okay. It's going to happen.
Starting point is 00:04:15 You know what? I feel like I'm going to bring them luck. I'm hoping that I am just what they needed. Can we ask about Katy Perry? Because obviously you have interviewed Katy Perry many times before. She seems lovely, but she's getting a bit of flack for going, you know, for the space mission that they did for, I guess, a multitude of reasons. But trying to encourage. What were all those reasons?
Starting point is 00:04:34 Well, I guess in some ways it was trying to encourage more young girls to dream big about going to space, right? But then also that was also a way to promote Jeff Bezos' space journeys, right? Yeah. Dream big and meet Jeff Bezos and pay him some money to let him go on, like, an 11-minute spaceship ride. The whole thing was very bizarre to me. And I do love Katy Perry. And we actually interviewed her in Vegas
Starting point is 00:04:54 when we were there for the NRL. We interviewed her the day that it came out that she was going to be going up, that she was one of the women going up. And I thought it was very cool. I think where she went wrong, and I would say this to her face, the whole time she was one of the women going up and i thought it was very cool i think where she went wrong and i would say this to her face the whole time she was up there she's like in the camera like with the daisy like showing her set list for the lifetime store like you're in space dude look out the window what are you doing like i think that was like one of the
Starting point is 00:05:19 reasons that it made people feel so um but yeah they all are getting flack and i sort of had this feeling that that there was going to be someack and i sort of had this feeling that that there was going to be some backlash like i just knew that this felt like very stunty and it didn't like i know what they wanted to do what they were the message they were trying to send but i just don't think it translated uh jeez yeah the trip to space really backfired and then everyone started calling them astronauts which technically we did look it up they are but that really that started to slap them in the face as well. Were you able to see Jeff Bezos' slip and fall face plant
Starting point is 00:05:48 when they did land? That was my favourite part of it. Yeah, he had a wee fall. And Katy Perry also kissing the ground, got a bit of flack as well. He was like, it's been 11 minutes. 11 minutes. You're okay.
Starting point is 00:06:00 But then I guess you have been disposed. But you're in a rocket. You go to the toilet longer than that. Yeah, head being in space. But you're in a, like, rocket. You don't know what's going to happen. Yeah, exactly, you know. So I get it in a lot of sense. I feel sorry for them, of course. I feel so sorry for Katy Perry. I think she's trying too hard.
Starting point is 00:06:18 Yeah, and I feel like the Lifetime's tour is not, like, I feel like she's getting flack for that, too, and I don't know if that's spillover from going up in space. I don't know what's going on, but I feel like she's getting flack for that too. And I don't know if that spillover from going up in space. I don't know what's going on, but I like love her personally. And I think she's so amazing and she's so bubbly and fun and positive. Like it makes me sad. Like if she is trying hard, this has to be breaking her heart that this is what people are saying. Yeah, because I was reading an article that her US tour is struggling to sell out the stadium to the point where they might can it.
Starting point is 00:06:45 Well, that's why when we were in Vegas for the NRL, we got a call. We didn't book her. We got a call asking if we would interview her. We were like, yeah, we'll take it. And that's why, because allegedly it wasn't selling that great, and so she needed a little bit more promo, which we were happy to do with her.
Starting point is 00:06:59 She's part of the family. But yeah, listen, I think it's hard for any artist, when you have an album that is so standout, like for her teenage dream to like try to one up yourself, to try to stay on top. It's a challenge for any artist. And she's going through that right now. Who would have thought going to space would get you bullied so hard?
Starting point is 00:07:18 Serious question though. Serious question. Do you think if it was a bunch of guys, including like another pop artist, like, I don't know, Ed Sheeran yes if they would have been bullied as hard you're probably right you're probably right that's a really good point I mean I do because I think it was just
Starting point is 00:07:32 the thing that was with Bezos that it was like 11 minutes up 11 minutes down it felt so like yes maybe not as hard but I guarantee I guarantee they would have gotten some flack there's just people are too tough on social media now, and we have access to torture and to, like, make fun so easily that, yeah,
Starting point is 00:07:50 I think it would have been pretty bad. Mate, we've been sending blokes up to space since the moon landing. No one's been complaining. One woman with 100 tampons. Oh, very funny. But, hey, we'll all be traveling to space pretty soon, commercially. Looking forward to it. I'm good.
Starting point is 00:08:08 I'm good. You're not going to go? I don't need that. Nah, nah, I'm good. I'm good right here on the ground. I do not need to go to space. I mean, listen, in theory, it's cool. I just, there's nothing about it that like is pulling me towards it.
Starting point is 00:08:20 Like for, it just, it does nothing for me. I was totally, I was totally keen. I'm a big space nerd until I found out how it ages you And it's bad for your skin It gives you grey hair I'm like oh no I'm going to stay down here Absolutely not
Starting point is 00:08:33 Thank you Now I'm definitely not going Remember they sent bloody William Shatner up there And he was like It was pretty boring He's like there's nothing up there There's no drive throughs
Starting point is 00:08:44 No wifi There's nothing Lovely to see you Nicole Great to talk
