Now, Kiwi Mike Hurd, for the last 24 hours, has been doing non-stop bungee jumps in an attempt to break the record for 24 hours of bungee jumps off the Auckland Harbour Bridge.
Incredible.
And he's just completed his final jump.
He's finished the 24-hour marathon, and he joins us now.
Mikey.
Jono, Ben, how are you?
We're doing okay.
How are you?
24 hours of non-stop bungee jumping. We don't want to hold you up for too long because I imagine you want to sleep, but how are you? We're doing okay. How are you? 24 hours of non-stop bungee jumping.
We don't want to hold you up for too long because I imagine you want to sleep,
but how are you feeling?
Yeah, I feel awesome, mate.
I feel awesome.
It was a lot of work to get us to that point and to beat our old record by so much.
I imagine the first thing you want to do is jump on a mid-rating radio show
and relive every moment.
But how many did you end up doing?
941.
Wow.
Yes, because I imagine your phone is backed up with texts.
I actually texted you yesterday when you started going,
hey, have you got time for a chat?
Then after the show, all three of us, we jumped on the live stream
and we're like, he has no time for a chat.
You were literally jumping off, getting winched up and jumping off.
Yeah, that's right.
Yesterday morning, we were doing between 45 and 50 jumps an hour,
and that slowed down a bit as fatigue sort of set in
and we had some pretty nasty crosswinds,
so that lowered the number a bit.
But, yeah, I'm stoked with the total.
How is the body feeling?
Because I imagine, you know, the harness and, you know,
the pull of the bungee and jumping off, the head must be all up.
I mean, how are you feeling?
The mind is clear.
My soul is cleansed, but my legs, I shouldn't have skipped leg day
because they've taken a hammering and my forearms are pretty sore
from holding on.
But apart from that, I'm good.
Was there one favourite jump?
Oh, yeah, the last one.
I bet.
765.
Was that the previous record?
So you've just smashed this by a couple of hundred.
Well, I mean, that's kind of redemption for me because i did this record in 2017 and i i've set a total of 430 which i was so proud of
until today and i realized i must have been a bit of a softy back then and uh francois from france
at the scottish bunch site he absolutely smoked me with his 765, so I thought it was only polite and right to do the same.
Francois from France?
Yeah.
Great name.
Well, he can shove that up his Eiffel Tower, mate.
Yeah, he's got it.
Now, you actually, obviously, the novelty factor is wonderful, and it's got you a lot of attention as well,
but you had a bit of a deeper reason for doing this, Mikey.
Yeah, I did.
A lot of this was all around the Mental Health Foundation raising some much-deserved funds
for them.
I've said this before and I'll say it again, we have a problem here in New Zealand and
I just wanted to do my part to get people talking or to see something that was a little
nuts and go, yeah, all right, there's something in this, you you know working on yourself or your mindset because i did 430 in 2017
and 941 today and that's all down to the fact that i you know i worked on my head and i had
amazing amazing support around me oh well congratulations uh just an incredible effort
i don't know how you did it well done get a well-deserved rest and congratulations thank
you boys and i don't agree you're not it. Well done. Get a well-deserved rest and congratulations. Thank you, boys. And I don't agree.
You're not a mediocre radio show
by calling me next.
See you, Mikey. See you, boys.
