The John O'Ben and Megan podcast, thanks to Dilma.
Goodness really does taste great.
Dilma, making the world a better tea.
Just talking about the most pointless thing that you got in your photo stream.
And producer Troy just showed us a photo of a balloon.
That was just sort of floating along a footpath that he took a photo of.
That's being stored somewhere.
You know, that's...
All of this has to be stored.
Would I understand a video of that more?
Because when you showed me the photo, you're like...
It was like beautifully floating along.
and I'm like, yeah, but there's still photo.
It's just sitting there.
Your kids have caught you on some flattering under chin selfie moments, Megan.
Yeah, they always take selfies of themselves, and then you're sitting beside them on whatever,
and you've got a double chin, you can see up your nose.
It's horrific, yeah.
It's a great angle.
That's a great angle, the old under chin selfie.
Well, speaking of phones, WhatsApp, there was a parent at school.
They're having a tough time with their health.
Right.
So there's been a WhatsApp group that was star.
and some money can be donated into a bank account, you know, sort of help that sort of thing.
And the person who started the WhatsApp group is like, oh, if you think of anyone else that
you'd like to add to the group, please feel free.
Now, I've since learned that when you sometimes add people to WhatsApp groups, you have an
option to loop them in on the history of the chat, or they just come in cold from that point.
I don't know that was an option, because I know where you do come in midway through, you're like,
what's been happening, guys?
Yeah.
Yeah.
And so like late to a thing and everyone's been, oh yeah, not much.
Yeah.
I didn't think that was the case.
You can see all the history, yeah.
I have to be careful when you're looping them in on the history, though.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So that, yeah, you do.
But I think in this instance, history was really important.
Because, you know, this is coming from a really heartwarming, genuine place.
Oh, yeah.
So this guy's been looped.
I don't know who he is, but he obviously knows the person somehow.
And he just comes in hard.
Ha!
Ha ha ha, starts the message.
There's no chance I'm chipping him for this tight-ass lunatic.
Tell him whatever it is, he should pay for it himself.
Oh, bro.
You could hear my 47 people simultaneously stop typing.
And then obviously someone talked to him offline.
Yeah.
Talk it offline.
He then pings about 30 minutes later.
He's like, I'm so sorry, guys.
I wasn't aware of this situation.
A bit of bad day you're like, yeah.
I fully didn't comprehend what was going on here
and I'll happily donate some money into the accounts.
Yeah, and it's going to have to be a lot now.
Yeah, true.
History was really important in that chat too.
Yes.
But I mean, even at any instance,
he was really making a scene coming in with that.
And you don't know anyone else in the chat.
The person who added them too is a monster.
If you're not going to give them any history, give them a heads up.
I'm going to add you to this group.
Why, it's for? You're right.
Serious vibes, okay?
John O'Bin and Megan.
The podcast.
I was making my son's lunch yesterday.
Because I do it the night before.
But often he pipes up and he wants to get involved.
It's just easier if he's not there and he just gets what he gets and you don't get upset.
That's true.
That's a good.
No, I know.
I see why he wants to get involved.
Hang on a second one am I having tomorrow?
I've got to put that in my mouth.
He gives me days of the week for different flavors of things.
He's like, I want this one on Monday, this one on Tuesday.
I'm like, oh God, okay.
I was like, you just need to leave.
But I was making him a sandwich.
First of all, you want a peanut butter and cream cheese.
And I was like, you can't have peanut butter because you're going to school.
Oh, yeah.
Also like...
I don't know about that combination.
Has he had that combination before?
No, I see to him if you had it?
And he was like, no.
And I was like, what if you don't like it?
He was like, I will.
Well, you just can't pick two things and put them in a sandwich
and think they're going to work.
Yeah.
And then secondly, once I'd made the sandwich, here we go.
He was like, cut the crust off.
Oh, yeah.
And I was like, no, since ween.
I was like, you always eat all the bread.
And he was like, yeah, but Jono cut them off when you made his lunch.
Oh, we were looking after.
Yeah.
Remember when you did that?
And I was like, oh, God.
I think I asked, it's like, oh, do you want cross on or off?
And he was like, oh, and I was like, sweet.
So it must be the done thing, yeah.
Yeah.
It's what you do when you love your children.
No, you don't make it a thing.
And then they just eat them.
They believe that the bread is to be eaten all the way through.
And so now he's like, but Jono cut my cross off.
And I was like, well, there's lots of things that Jono does that you should never do.
Yeah, like, Jono, you let you have the knife as well afterwards.
He was wielding a knife.
He waited until you put it up your knife.
before he told him to put it down.
Yeah, so you shove the knife up his nose, which is...
So I had a big argument with him, and I was like,
you're not having the crust cut off.
Well, that's part of the bread.
We helped look after your kids because Andrew was away,
your husband for a long period of time,
and we did the radio show that saying,
there was a lot going on.
It was.
Yeah.
Ben was like, do you on the crust off?
We were in the moment, mate.
In the moment.
We also were giving the microwave Frankfurters for breakfast.
Well, look, to be honest,
and we talked about this in the day,
we thought it was going to be a bit of smoke and mirrors.
We were going to be there doing this thing,
and Megan was going to be sort of standing next to us going,
don't do that, don't do that.
But no, you just had the morning off.
Yeah, it was great.
As promised, you had the morning off.
Stayed in your bedroom.
So this is what you get, mate.
You get crusts off, knives up noses,
and seeping Frankfurters from the microwave.
So if he brings the crust back today,
I'm bringing them in for you to eat.
Why he brought it back now, though?
This was like two months ago.
I know.
I don't know.
He was there when I made his sandwiches,
so maybe he had triggered a memory.
Sorry.
I made a rod for you back.
To be fair, though, he isn't run around and put knives up his nose.
So that's good.
Just pick it in shoes.
John O'Benn and Megan.
The podcast.
The hats.
Custumes, yeah, we've talked about this many times over the years that I'm a big fan of costumes
through various TV shows and doing stuff for social media.
I've sort of accumulated not as much maybe as I, well, I'd say not as much as I used to have, but probably do now.
You know, we'll buy costumes from time to time.
Where did this love of costumes come from?
What happened in your childhood?
Yeah, I don't know.
It's always, you look back at photos when I was young,
and I'm dressed up.
I'm doing all sorts of dressed up as a weird kid dressed up as, you know,
Santa Claus at Christmas and wrestlers, superstars of wrestling.
Like, looking back at all these things, I was always dressing up.
It's in your DNA.
Yeah.
Kevin Boyce was your dad, a dresser was a costume guy?
No, but he, no, but I just, yeah.
Well, you're wearing a warrior shirt today.
Yeah.
You're technically dressed up as a warrior.
Want to be warriors, play, yeah.
So I got a lot of costumes.
and now, you know, it's, my wife, you know, does, you know,
she normally turns a blind eye to it, normally.
They come when they arrive, I get them in the garage,
you use them, whatever, I sometimes gaslight,
I'll like, I've had this one for ages, that sort of thing,
like you and your shoes with your husband.
Yeah, me and my online shopping is you with your costumes.
But it's got to stage, we've just, you know, we've got a little,
a single garage in the house, not once as my wife ever parked your car in it,
that was always her dream to park the car.
It hasn't happened.
It's just full of stuff.
I'll put a little video up on the, it's breakfast,
I need to clean up the costume, so taking up a lot of it.
And over the weekend, as I put away the blow-up inflatable horse costume.
But you don't know what you need.
I did use it over the weekend as well.
What you use it for?
I used it with Trojan horse thing as well.
Oh, you're good for the thing.
Honestly, yeah.
Yeah, but it was weird because I tried not to talk.
I said, like, I was just had a sign saying a gift to my daughters.
And they're like, we don't get what he's, what is he doing.
Not across this.
It was a good use of the costume, though.
Did you get the horse first, then come up for the backstory?
Yeah, pretty much.
Yeah, like, we don't know what he's doing.
It's like, well, everyone else does.
He's trying to justify his latest costume.
But anyway, this is what my wife had to say over the weekend.
What are I doing with this?
All these costumes.
It's terrible.
These are my pride of joy.
Oh my gosh, you should get rid of them.
No, I'm not getting rid of.
Look at this one.
There's a horse and platable horse.
Ridiculous.
Oh, use them again.
Use them or lose them then.
I need to tidy it up, granted, but yes.
Oh, use it again.
Don't.
There's so many, like it goes right down to the floor.
Oh, these, look, and these so many great.
Yeah, like, anyway.
So use them or lose them
The rustling
So sexy that rustling
I don't want to lose them
Like I don't want to lose them
I love them
I love them like my children
Give us an estimate
Of how many are in there
Oh how many are in there
I don't know
Well you can see on the Hitsprickers
There's quite a few like sort of those
Plastics or container box things and stuff
It's very messy
I put up on the Hits breakfast right now
So it's
Who is Ben without his costume?
It's his identity.
I mean, you can't lose them.
We can't have you lose these.
No.
Maybe we need to discover who Ben is when he's out of costume.
I'm not always in costume.
I just enjoy having costumes.
And there's stuff you can do with costumes.
There's more stuff as well.
What's behind that inflatable pineapple?
I just love when the spotlights on him.
Listen to him, flounder.
Nothing's more annoying though.
And someone goes, have you got one of those, you're like, oh, I used to have it.
I don't want to be a used to have a costume guy.
I want to be, yeah.
He's a costume guy.
Dude.
But you don't lend them out to people though.
Yeah, why don't you just...
I do, I used to.
I used to do that.
You can hire dresses, right?
Why don't you do this for just out of your garage?
Hire it, yeah.
High, are your blog?
It seems like an admon, though, doesn't it?
He's like, if I lend a costume out, I know it's not coming back.
So you're going to be comfortable with that.
Most times, you know, you just presume.
You're surprised when it does come back.
But, but, okay, so I've got to either use them or lose them.
That's my thing.
So maybe it's, do I, do I don't know.
How are we going to use hundreds of calls?
I don't know.
I don't know.
I mean, I feel like...
Are they a business-related expense?
Oh, I guess.
Yeah, they are.
He's putting it through the business.
I mean, yeah.
I use some full work purposes, yeah.
I mean, there's some sort of reward there.
Okay, so what can be...
I don't think the people that made that inflatable horse was like,
someone's going to use this for a business experience.
This is tax deductible.
So, 0800 that's 4487.
Please help being out.
Join the brainstorm, the show brainstorm.
We need to save these costumes.
Now, I can't think it.
more worthy charitable cause
to get behind.
I'm not trying to make you pay for anything.
No.
Just, yeah, help us out.
What can we do with them?
Celebration for the Superfan's next thing.
Cut them up and make them into a parachute.
Oh, oh.
Oh, but then they're not, they're not, uh,
then you've got to join parachute, though.
Yeah, true.
John O' Ben and Megan, the podcast.
The Hits.
The Boys' Garage, littered with costumes,
can't fit a car in there.
Could you fit a lawnmower in that garage?
I only just, right?
just at the moment there's some other things that we need it's not all you it's not all me but there's
a lot of it is yeah it is loved it for all these costumes it's terrible this my pride of joy
oh my gosh you should get rid of them no i'm not getting rid of this one there's a horse and platable
ridiculous oh use them again use them or lose them then i need to tidy it up granted but yes
oh you so many like it goes right down to the floor oh these look and these so many great
Anyway.
So this is the ultimatum.
Use them or lose them.
And we can't have you losing them.
I mean,
I feel like this affects no one else at all.
So, you know.
Who is Ben Boyce without a giant inflatable T-Rex around his waist?
Maybe we don't want to find out.
Do you think if they were, because that sounds like a mess?
That is a mess.
You can see it on the hits big of the story.
If they were like organized and stuff that she would be more likely to.
Yeah.
If it looked nice.
Yes.
When you walk in the garage.
Yeah.
I know sometimes it will.
Like every six months or so,
really get in there and tidy it up and then
you know. Is there a world where both
could exist, a car and your costumes
in the same? You need one of those dry
cleaning things that go up into the ceiling.
Oh yeah.
You know, on rails.
Yeah. And then you type in like
you know, it's like Mr. Incredible.
That seems like.
Type in, I need an inflatable horse
and it's like brrr. Oh yeah, here we go.
That's pretty cool.
I love that. I do like that though. That's good.
I love that.
So yeah, we've opened the brainstorm.
What can we do with these costumes?
Use them or lose them.
That's the call, Linda.
Happy New Year.
Happy New Year to you, team.
How you doing?
We're doing well.
Thank you so much for participating in the brainstorm.
How can we save these costumes?
Well, you know, I think maybe do a theme and let him wear one a day.
And maybe even look at using that to maybe rate some money for a charity.
Oh.
I want some people like a little sponsor me.
I'm going to wear it one.
No, yeah, okay.
Yeah, yeah, I think so.
And maybe do even a movie theme style thing as well.
It'd be quite cool.
I like that too because when a wife says, what, I'm like, Charity, Matt.
I mean, you know, that's for charity.
I'm wearing my costumes for charity.
You know, it's a great company.
Can't argue.
And every time you wear one, when you take it home, you can catalogue it and put it away.
Put it on that little system that we're going to get, the electronic system.
It's the charity fundraising for that system.
You are the charity.
Yeah, yeah.
Linda, Charity, that's a really good, really good option.
Kim Bo, welcome.
Hi, happy new year.
Happy new year.
And can you help me out here, Kim?
Yep, definitely.
I think that he should be a bit savage and give them away to the listeners.
Oh, okay.
My 40th coming up in November.
Kim's 40th?
He's like, oh.
He's scratching his beard.
The higher his voice goes, the less he's into that idea.
You know, some I guess we could part with, but yeah.
Okay, Kim, what would you like?
I don't know.
Something, it's something country themed.
Oh, country, same.
Okay, okay, we're up.
Have you got a country theme something?
No, I've probably got something somewhere.
Yeah, so we'll talk more of this.
We'll take this off line, Kim.
So you're saying slowly give them out to the listeners, Kim.
I mean, that is.
But then I'm not getting to use them again.
Kim looks great for you, though, but they are getting used, I guess is the good thing.
Yeah, okay.
It's not my favorite.
They're not going to give them.
They're so attached.
Yeah.
Well, you know,
give me away your shoes.
No, God, no.
Someone said,
why don't you hide them all in a storage unit?
Like, buy a storage unit
and have a little secret,
your dirty little storage unit secret there.
It's not a bad idea.
Amanda, I'm just going in the storage unit.
I'll be back in a couple hours.
I'm trying to buy costumes by myself.
It's just you and your costumes.
There's someone saying you need to go to IKEA.
I've sorted out storage solutions at IKEA as well.
I mean, there's,
we're getting the ball rollies.
Some great suggestions coming through.
have a giant dress-up party.
Oh yeah.
Okay, I like that.
Where everyone's in one of Ben's costumes,
that would make him really anxious.
Be at the door at the end of the night.
Take it off.
Take it off.
All right, well, Keith is coming through 4-48-7.
We're going to try and save these costumes for our friend Ben Boyn.
John O'Ben and Megan.
The podcast.
The Hits.
Well, yeah, today, years old when you found out.
That's a saying that goes around a memes on the internet, right?
Yeah.
And it happened to you last week.
Well, okay.
let's preface this by saying this is
to do with medical stuff.
So don't take anything...
Anti-medical switch off.
No, I'm just meaning don't take anything you hear
on here as gospel because we're not
medical professionals and I'm relying on chat GBT.
Remember that time I started spouting off about Bitcoin
and then I checked some lady on the air
and everyone was like, that was completely the wrong information.
I never corrected that.
If there is a medical professional that's listening to this...
Oh yeah, good.
Could you please call us, oh, 800 the hits and clarify
what we're about to say?
because producer, I actually don't know how we got on to it,
but I remember producer Troy came in and said,
Oh, no, it's because I, so I was drinking one of our redballs.
It was a grapefruit red bull.
And I was like, Yolo, I'm drinking grapefruit, even though.
It makes the, it stops the pill from working.
I heard this rumor.
I'd never heard it until you said the other day.
Also, mountain juice, shrinks appendages.
That was, which is not true.
So I always believed you couldn't have grapefruit of any kind while on the pill because it stopped it from working.
Yeah, I thought there was like Bible for like all my life.
And producer truly made the comment like you can get pregnant if someone eats grapefruit because, you know, it stops the pill.
We all believed it.
Yeah.
So I was like, I'm just going to chuck it into chat, TEPT and figure out what the deal is with this.
So you can have grapefruit.
It does not make the combined oral contraceptive pill.
ineffective. She's this has been some brand
damage for grapefruit over the years, decades.
I've avoided it for 15 years of my
life. I literally had it that one time.
Mind you're not, I mean, it looks so inviting
and appetising, but it really is, it's
a disappointing. Any fruit, you've got to put
brown sugar all over to make it edible.
You don't put sugar on it.
That's what my grandparents used to every morning that's
just like a deal with it. Yeah.
So what it does do, and it does
with some other medications as well, is
for the pill, it can
increase the risk of
side effects, so your side effects might become worse.
And in some cases, the medication you're on, it affects how your body
disposes of it, so it can hurt your liver a little bit.
But it doesn't stop the medication from working.
Crazy.
It is crazy.
But again, check with your medical professionals.
Through the 90s, what did we do without the internet?
Through the 90s, we were just spreading rumors.
You could say stuff, yeah.
Yeah.
And there was no way to check it.
Really?
Really?
Okay.
Yeah, you're right.
And now you can just like...
But maybe back in the day,
I seem to remember it saying
avoid grapefruit on your little packet.
But now it doesn't.
So did we do initial research and everyone's like,
ah!
And now that's been proven wrong?
Okay, so what were you with today years old
when you discovered something?
We're going to have grapefruit!
I'm so excited.
Only recently I discovered that, you know,
like we can get fuel and stuff,
and which side the tank is.
There's a little arrow.
Oh, and your fuel gauge.
Yeah, and your fuel gauge.
I only just recently discovered that.
Someone was like, I just look where their little arrow is pointing
because I was driving a car that wasn't my.
And I was like, oh, makes sense.
Do you know, my friend was saying there about two or three weeks ago
that if you're in a car and you're sinking in a lake or in the ocean,
taking a wrong turn, you just pull out the headrest,
smash the windows with the spikes from the headrest.
Just in case you ever find yourself in that really unique situation.
You're going to save my life.
Thank you.
When you think of that, when you're drowning, out in the Pacific,
I got, geez, Google Maps did me dirty here.
Okay, what were you today years old when you discovered?
John O'Benn and Megan, the podcast.
The Hats.
What were you today years old when you discovered?
Lots of texts coming through on this one.
Can I like, shall I just read out from a doctor to clarify our grapefruit?
Yeah, that'd be great.
So we and me and Grace were today years old
when we found out that grapefruit doesn't stop the pill from working.
What it does do is it interferes with an enzyme that metabolizes certain medication.
So it can build up and hurt your liver.
but it won't stop working.
Gotcha.
So if you were to have it every now and there, you're fine.
Brilliant news for the great grapefruit industry.
They must be ecstatic.
But grapefruit, like, we're back, we're back, back, back.
And then everyone will eat one and be like, ooh.
We lost them again, guys.
So, yeah, 0800, the hits telephone number.
4487 is the text, if that's your preferred method of communication.
Megan, happy new year.
Hi, guys.
Good to have you on.
I mean, it is August, but you know.
I know, we're sticking with it.
Johnny, today is old, we discovered it wasn't the times that's a happy new year.
Oh my God, is it August?
Hey, what's something you just discovered?
You know, when you were in the car in, like, the 90s and they had the lights,
and your parents said you couldn't have the lights on while they're driving because it's illegal?
Illegal, yeah.
Inside the car.
Yeah.
Mm-hmm.
You know, you know the one?
It's not.
It just distracts the driver.
Yeah, it's annoying when the kids still.
Is it not illegal?
It's not.
No, it's not.
I thought it was illegal.
I still thought it was illegal.
It was illegal.
It was not, no, because then why would they put them up by the drive on the kids' side?
Yeah.
The kids turned it on, because I always wondered why they would get so annoyed when you turn the lights on,
but the kids did it to me when it was dark recently.
It's because you can't see outside.
When the lights are on and it's dark outside, you can't see where you're going.
And you never felt your parents' pain when you would wind the window down in the back seat.
Oh, yeah.
But now is it, as a driver, you're like, yep, he was right.
It does.
I can see her.
Bala, Bala, Walom!
Hey, good on you, Megan.
Appreciate that.
Great text here on 4487.
I was today a year old.
I was in fact,
22 years old when I discovered
that the gang was called
Black Power
and not Black Power.
Oh, well, yeah,
it's probably those things you hear
from time of time.
You're like, I've never actually, yeah.
Yeah, true.
I mean, I guess if you're not in the gang
or affiliated or friends, you're probably not going to
But that's an unusual name for a gang.
I guess they're supporting the seafood
industry.
So that's really good.
Yeah.
4, 48, 7.
I always, was that?
He started so well, too.
You can read that one.
It's safe.
Oh, yeah.
I always thought the dudes on the weather were saying,
rogue snowfall.
I only recently found out it is road snowfalls.
Oh, not like rogue.
They thought it was,
they like rogue better,
because it sounds like a sneaky little bugger comes in
and dumps the snow.
It's a rogue snowfall.
That's a better, that's a better memory.
read out.
John O'Bennon, Ben and Megan.
The podcast.
The Hats.
The one about the Paralympics.
Well, Jono and I were today years old.
Literally, we've discovered this from the text machine.
Kimberly said I recently learned that Paralympics stands for Parallel Olympics because it runs alongside the Olympics.
I missed the memo on that one.
So did I.
This is one I'm just trying to work out if it's one of those ones that pranks you or not.
A text comes through from Lisa.
I heard recently your tongue rests on the top of your mouth.
Oh, Lisa's on.
Okay.
Don't you?
You can question Lisa in real time.
Oh, you know when someone's like,
now you're doing it, you're idiot.
You're like, oh yeah, I'm trying to like see where my tongue rests.
I can't stop thinking about it now.
Lisa, welcome.
Hi, guys.
Congratulations on making the entire country think about their tongues.
Yeah, where it's resting.
I'm like, where do you want to sit, buddy?
Are you pranking us?
So what, it rests at the top of your mouth?
Yeah, well, my kick in home from school and goes,
Mum, did you know that your tongue sits on the top of your mouth?
And, you know, it's just never sat on the top of my mouth.
I thought it was always just chilling at the bottom,
but maybe I haven't thought about it.
Well, maybe it goes to the bottom when you open your mouth.
But every other time it's...
It's just like up top, yeah, yeah.
I know, but is that because your mouth shut?
God, I can't something about my tongue.
No, I can't sort of think.
All I can think about is my tongue, Lisa.
I think when my mouth is shut,
it does tend to be a little bit more on the top.
Yeah.
It's a sort of snug up there at the, yeah.
Okay.
Hey, good on you, Elise.
Where's your tongue at the moment?
Not on the top right now.
Not on the top right now.
Now it is because she's not talking.
She's talking to us.
Now it's top.
Now talking again in the middle.
It is the more and more you're thinking about your tongue,
the more you get inside your head about it.
Totally.
Someone said this is one.
I discovered recently as well.
The dials on the toaster with the levels of toastiness.
Not the levels of fact the amount of minutes are toasted.
So, yeah.
I only found that out recently too.
Uh-oh.
What?
And another one?
Scott's come back in with some feedback on the Paralympics.
He said that one's false.
Oh, okay.
All right.
If only there was one way we could figure out the actual art.
I did do, I did Google it.
And it does.
It does say it was parallel too.
Did they change it?
Who knows?
Well, it doesn't always run at the same time, too, does it?
Sometimes it's directly after the Olympics.
John O'Ben and Megan, the podcast.
The Hits.
I'm just reading you an article.
The SpaceX rocket is on a collision course with the moon.
It's going to hit the moon on Wednesday, this rocket that's been discarded in space.
Is that bad?
Well, the scientists don't seem too stressed about it.
Producers choice saying, if you've got a good telescope, you'll be able to see it.
It's going to get a hit at the moon, hit the moon at 8,700 Ks per hour.
That sounds...
Wow.
That's fast.
And what, is it going to do damage, obviously?
Just put a big crater in.
But a Chinese rocket hit the moon in 2022 and it wasn't a huge deal.
That's a really good shot when you think about it.
Like spaces.
Yeah, it's big spaces?
Yeah.
Like to actually hit the moon's a...
That's a game winner.
Okay, well, I know.
We'll keep the update with that one.
Seven times the speed of sound that rocket's going to hit the moon.
I know, but we can't just keep doing that.
No, they're worried.
This article goes on to say there's too much junk up in space.
We're grabbing space for the junk.
It's going to be more and more common.
They're going to be slamming into planners.
Oh, jeez.
We did the same on the internet.
We put too much junk on the internet.
Now we're going to be junk in the space.
We don't even live there and we're screwing it.
Oh, John O'Benn and Megan.
The podcast.
The hits.
Megan, I was thinking over the weekend.
You'd be very disappointed with me.
Is it food related?
No, it's not food related.
It's car related.
It's car because I know you're a huge fan of Formula One and you love cars.
You love.
And a long story, but basically...
Had Lewis Hamilton over for a barbecue.
Oh, Jesus.
But a couple months ago, my daughter and I, we needed a flash car for one bit of filming we were doing.
Not to take it anywhere just to film with the car.
So this lovely place that rents out luxury cars let us film in front of their car for this thing that's coming out later.
And on the day, they'll like, oh, you should come up with another idea if you want to borrow one.
of the cars at some stage it'd be good you know to do something so I thought well to help them
out to do that and over the weekend they let me take one of their luxury cars out for this little
thing I was doing for social media what did you take it was oh where was my phone call it was an
Audi R8 V10 green it's like I think it's worth two 300 thousand dollars worth a car geez how nervous
for you this is the thing I was like I was driving with my wife and she was like this is the
slowest this car is probably ever been driven like I was getting people passing me and like I was
I was like, it's too much car for me.
Like, it's, this wasn't even film,
but this was just me getting it to where I needed to go.
And I was just like,
my wife was like, we are getting past
in a 50K area by other people, you know?
You're going below 50.
I'm just like, so nervous about how much it worth
and not, yeah.
It was basically, yeah.
Was that the car there?
Oh, my gosh.
And it's a beautiful, it's a beautiful car.
What you didn't need was them to tell you
the recommended retail value of the vehicle
before you drove it.
That is the moment you call,
your friend Megan.
I know.
And she drives it.
And I was the only one to, on the license for it, my wife really wanted to drive it.
I was the only one down.
I was like, sorry, it has to be me, driving it back.
And I was just like, oh, I can think it was, Megan would be so disappointed in me.
I crawled around side streets, just, you know, parking away from the curb.
No, no, no, no, motorway.
How far away from the curb did you park?
Oh, so far away.
Like, yeah, like, I would have got 51Ks at top speed.
As I took it back, the guy's like, is it?
I was like, yeah, I just wanted to get it back.
I just wanted to get it back.
It did the filming.
It worked great, all that sort of stuff.
I know you're not supposed to speed on the motorway,
so what you do is you make sure there's no cars around and you slow right down.
And then you put your foot down.
I got it back, comfortably got it back, it was parked.
And I was just like, yeah, I wouldn't think it was speaking to be so disappointed to me.
It's just wasted, you know?
Were you even talking when you were driving or you just...
Oh, my wife trying to film me.
I'm like, we're not filming now.
This is just me driving.
How white were you?
Your knuckles.
Yeah, I was very nervous.
John O'Benn and Megan, the podcast.
The Hits.
In the netball.
How cool was that?
Silver Fern's beating Jamaica, 5648.
The incredible scenes.
And you've been in comms with the netball team, Ben?
Yeah, Karin Berger, the Silver Furn's captain.
They're about to jump on the bus, but I think she's going to join us now over WhatsApp.
Karen.
Hi-ya.
Hey, Karen.
It's Jono Ben and Megan here from The Hats.
Hi, how are you?
Oh, we're good.
How are you?
Congratulations.
Amazing.
It's really good, thank you.
I can imagine what, I mean, talk us through the last couple of hours.
I mean, winning the gold first time in 16 years and what's been happening since then?
Yeah, look, I was talking to Kate, who's my Rumi, leading into this game before we left, saying what an amazing feeling it will be to, you know, when we get back and know we've got that gold around our next to now, we're actually able to say that.
You know, this win wasn't just for ourselves as individuals, but we put, we, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're.
part of a wider group, the New Zealand team,
and being able to come back and be celebrated by the wider group has been amazing.
What happens when you get back to the village?
Yeah, it's been a bit of a rush, to be honest.
So straight after the game, obviously, it's a bit of a media to be done.
And we jumped on a bus to New Zealand House where we, you know, got lead in
and just celebrated, really, in front of an amazing group.
All our supporters and fans and family were welcome to come join.
that and just celebrating the medals and then straight back to the hotel to, you know, get
changed and have a really good shower and prepare for celebrations for the rest of the night,
really?
I always find that really odd is you have to do like all the media and all those things before
you get to have a shower.
I know, we were talking about it as well.
Yeah, so I don't know how well we were presented in front of the camera at that point, but
just celebrations in mind, I guess.
That's just part of what we do.
Yeah, who cares?
your champions after 16 years.
What does it mean for, you know, because there's so much going on behind the scenes for
everything and netball and stuff, which we don't need to double now.
But just to put that all aside and go out there and to be unbeaten and to win the first
gold in 16 years.
It just must be the best feeling.
You know, we, it's amazing for us to have been able to get that goal to show the strength
of what netball and female in sport can do, regardless of the tribulations and stuff that we've
been going through and the ups and downs.
of this sport and considering where
we have been over the last, you know,
over a year now and looking
at what netball looks like going forward in the
future as well, showing that we are
such an amazing product and we've got so much
fight left in us and, you know,
we are a quality product
to show to the rest of
New Zealand what that looks like as well.
So yeah, this one wasn't just for ourselves
but more than that.
And I tell you, you know, maybe a big corporate
now might be a good time to
put some money here.
Jump head.
If anybody is interested, might be timely.
For our Commonwealth champions and for the thousands of girls that play every Saturday morning.
Totally.
I go out on the weekend over the weekend and, you know, St. John's Eblecourses, pump.
You know, there's so many kids out there.
But it's such a great sport.
Yes.
Yeah.
Oh, you know, and it's important for us to show that, you know, the strength of this group
has been to be able to play for and with each other and in the true Kiwi style.
and everything that we do isn't just for us as individuals,
but for the wider group and what this means for future generations to come.
And I know receiving messages from past players
and people who have been in the sport for so many years
and how much this means for them as well.
It just shows how much we carry on our shoulders when we go out there.
And I think that also helps us to drive us to play really good netball too.
Listen, I have a question because are there 12 players in the squad over in the Com games
with you?
Yes.
So do we add
12 more medals to our
Is that how it works?
No.
I don't think it's 12 gold.
We were talking about it the other day as well.
So many other sports
compete one or two days
or, you know, one event
and that's their gold medal.
We've been having to compete
seven games and 10 days.
True.
Add 12 more goals to our telling.
Yeah, that's the way to do it.
Okay, just quickly, because I know you've got to jump on a bus.
What to from now?
Off to have Haggis somewhere or
Calvin Harris or what's going on?
Oh, yeah.
I'm sure management have organised somewhere for us to go,
so I'm sure it'll be a long night for us.
And then, yeah, just celebrating as much as we can.
And then everybody's sort of going in their own directions from tomorrow
onwards, you know, enjoying the downtime as much as we can.
I know there's players who haven't been home for quite a while,
including me, who just want to get back to family and friends too,
but also making most of the fact that we're in Europe.
So, you know, she's a lot of sightseeing.
A little bit, yeah.
Finding that balance.
So proud of you're back home, mate.
Go and celebrate and congratulations.
Cool.
Thank you guys so much.
Have a lovely day.
John O'Benn and Megan.
It's a podcast.
The hits.
I'll producer Troy last week
were talking about the fact that you
rated your partner Neve's meal.
Yeah.
I can see now that that was an era in judgment.
How could you not see it at this hour?
You gave her blow-by-blow feedback
of all the ingredients that featured on the plate.
Potato's too hard, too much star and east,
and the cabbage.
I don't even know what star anise is,
but whatever it is,
there was too much of it.
And then the carrots,
the carrots are too hot
because of the honey glade.
The honey glaze was like lava.
Yeah.
Hot honey is a big thing at the moment of day.
Oh, like spicy.
Yeah.
Oh, as in spicy.
Yeah.
Not as in temperature.
Man of my wife loves.
Goldie lots.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Honey's too little.
It's a bit, yeah.
Yeah.
There was,
there was just one little thing wrong
with each portion of the meal.
And you told her about it.
And that totaled a 6.5 out of 10 years.
Was that a generous,
marking or just was it was fair? No that was fair.
I think that was fair. You're such an idiot.
Okay, so this is what you did and
you've now seen the air of your ways, but then...
Well, she heard me talking about that on the radio
on Friday. Oh, God. So that's how you saw the air
of your ways. So you haven't seen
the air of your ways. Not it explains
to me how I saw the air. A hot
honey reception when you got home.
It was spicy. It was spicy.
And so I was very promptly
told that I was on dinner on Friday,
Saturday and Sunday night.
Oh, yep.
Three in a row.
That was fair.
That's fair.
Better chef,
oh, better chefo.
Yeah, like,
minimum 9.2.
Each meal.
Michel and star.
So I cooked this nice
nasi-gouring,
chicken mince,
vermicelli noodle sort of situation
on Friday.
Saying words I don't understand.
He'd be able to be noodles.
He just got mints in the pan
with some seasoning.
Well,
I actually thought it was a lot more than that,
but it's fine.
And so I thought I'd ask
Neve what she thought.
How?
You must be,
working your ass off of the kitchen though knowing what was on the line here i had i had a pan on the
on the stove and that's about it yeah here we go it was yummy it was like a chicken mince chop suey
but it required like zero effort shut up yes be real you had to grate a carrot put it in the
pan put some chicken mince in the pan pour the packet sauce in and cook it to perfection
No, bash bash.
What's that out of ten?
Like an eight.
That threw me.
You sent us that audio and I was like,
she was sassania and then she comes to her with an ace.
Oh, no, you shouldn't have got over 6.5.
No.
Dude, and you used to pack it.
Yeah, and it was bloody good.
I reckon on a normal day, that would have been a 10,
but she docked me two points, just out of spite.
Yeah.
She was seasoning everything by hand and you rock up with your black.
bloody packet sauce.
It was a good packet sauce.
So the feedback in the ranking system,
is this going to be a staple at the dinner table now in your household?
Yeah.
No, I think we're putting it to bed now.
Yeah, right.
That's silly some both of us have learned.
Otherwise, you'll never be eating dinner together every year.
That's cute.
Did you think you've put it to bed?
That's cute.
Because I was on dinner for Saturday and Sunday, too.
We had takeaways both of those times.
That's the same option.
That was a 10 out of 10 both nights.
John O'Bennon and Megan, the podcast.
The Hats.
Hello?
James McCar.
Johnny, it's Jono Ben and Megan from The Hits.
Oh, hey.
Why did I answer?
Why did I answer?
Why did I answer?
It could have been someone more important, but it's not.
It's us.
We just wanted to get a quick Commonwealth Games wrap from you.
I know you're very busy this morning with closing ceremony.
I'm never too busy for you, guys.
Do you know the thing I really appreciate about James is he just casually appears in other countries?
Yeah.
You know, you've a very laid-back demeanour, like if his house was burning down,
and you'd be like, oh, well, fair enough.
You know, how did a good run?
How do you end up at these places?
I kind of, I hate winter.
I don't like when it's dark at 5 o'clock.
Ben never invites me over.
Yeah, true.
So what's the point?
I might as well go overseas.
I haven't given you the gate code.
You know that.
I just, I refuse to do it.
Now, I notice when I call you, it pops up with your picture and you doing the thumbs up
and a mascot from the rugby world.
World Cup. Now, where does that mascot rate in comparison to the Commonwealth Games mascot
who looks like a unicorn with a road cone on its head, right?
Yeah, Finney, it's not a bad effort. I thought they were going to go with a Nessie,
with a Loch Ness thing, but maybe that's just been done to death. I'm not sure. Maybe it
was last time. But I'm happy with a unicorn. Finney has sold out the smaller ones, but you can
get bigger Finney's if that's what you're angling at.
Yes. He wants a big plushy.
Well, I don't probably need more stuff in my garage, to be honest.
We all won each, James.
Now, James McConey, there's been, you know, so many highlights from the Commonwealth Games.
What's the standout for you?
I think that on the New Zealand front, it's Zoe Hobbs and Lewis Clarebert.
I think that was outstanding stuff.
Lewis, just showing that he's world class.
Zoe putting New Zealand sprinting on the map.
That's going to get replayed forever, isn't it?
And whenever it is, when everyone's running in puddles, they're going to be going, Zoe Hobb.
Zoe did it, she did it.
Yeah, and then, of course, overnight as well, the netballers and all the stuff that's going on behind the scenes.
It's so amazing to see them.
Come out with the gold.
Yeah, I mean, Commonwealth Games is the Olympics for netball because hardly any nations play it.
But at the same time, Australia had to take their medicine.
They got the bronze.
And then Jamaica was a huge.
third quarter, like so much intensity.
A few smashed them bros out there or smash two bros.
People getting whacked on the nose as well.
There was a lot going on.
Producer Troy was saying the comment section was hilarious.
It was all flooded with Jamaicans going,
that's what you get.
Yeah.
And I tell you what you get in the end is you get Grace Wickey down the other end,
just like putting it in, 8 point win.
Sorry about it.
And it's unbeaten too.
Oh, well, James, we really appreciate that.
You're about to head off to the closing ceremony and just a few moments.
And then where?
Where does the wind take James McConey in the world?
Well, I don't really want to say on the next to radio, but it's like a truth serum, isn't it?
Okay, I'm going to south of France.
Oh, geez, girl.
For business or pleasure?
Exactly.
I'm a mercy, though, okay.
He's like, I'll let you decide whether it's business or pleasure.
I don't know if there will be much pleasure.
John, I'm not that presumptuous to think, oh, I'm in France, pleasure me.
You're all business when you're in France.
I do.
All business.
Oh, I appreciate it.
I'd love to catch it up for you, take care, and yeah, Commonwealth Games has been great.
It's been fun.
It's been fun.
It's going off here in Glasgow tonight, but mainly because Calvin Harris is playing at Hamden Park,
so I was wondering what the hell was going on.
He's not at the opening, closing ceremony?
No.
He can be playing to 70,000 people, mainly screaming teenagers.
And I don't know, does he just push buttons, Calvin Harris?
I mean, I'm not sure.
Yeah, I press the spacebar on the laptop.
That's all there is to it.
Spacebar, guy.
Yeah, yeah.
John O'Benn and Megan.
The podcast.
The hits.
Do you have fitness equipment that you've purchased from years gone by,
and then eventually it just becomes,
it used for a purpose that wasn't initially intended?
Right.
I don't, but I do know a lot of people that have, yeah, that had that sort of stuff.
You've seen the Papers Pump House in the garage.
Oh, your gym.
You've set up as a little gym.
You even got signage made too.
Yeah, my husband begged me.
He was like, oh, I won't need to go to the gym anymore.
I'll just do it in the garage.
I can't even remember the last time he used it.
He goes to the gym.
I'm like, I knew this would happen.
You're really taking to next level by putting up a little, you know, like a sign to say this is what it is.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So he's taking his pump.
pumping away from the house now.
He said he was going to
like solely, yeah, all his pumping at home.
Now he pumps elsewhere.
All right.
So rude.
Well, he's got good muscles, so he's doing something right.
But yeah, we, years and years and years ago,
when we didn't even live in this house,
we bought a treadmill,
and it was from Torpedo 7.
Oh, yeah.
RIP.
Oh, they're not around them, boy.
Not around anymore.
And anyway, the treadmill, it was, it would break
down and then I ring torpedo seven
and then they'd send me a new one
and then it would break down six months later
then I'd ring torpedo seven
this sounds like you wanting free upgrades
this is what that torpedo seven thought
so I was four treadmills
honestly four treadmills dear
and I wasn't doing anything else apart from
just walking or running on it
right and then eventually the fourth
three four treadmills into their credit
they kept sending me replacement ones
that broke down but then torpedo seven
broke down financially
as of you
and then I yeah yeah
Yeah, they're a lot.
He's free upgrades.
And so now the treble doesn't work, but it is a great bike stand.
It is a fantastic bike stand for the kids' bikes.
So for five years or so, it has been...
Do they go on the belt?
You stand them and then they lean.
You can lift the thing up.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, got it.
So that's up, and then you can slide the bikes in between the two handles.
Wonderful bike stand.
But also a really big inconvenient bike stand.
to be honest.
That was big, but yeah.
I can't get rid of it.
Why?
Because it's holding up bikes.
You can find somewhere else with the bikes.
Or bike rack on a wall or something like a wall.
Much like many people's ab circle pros
sort of uses washing lines and things now, you know?
Yeah, yep.
Have you got a text 4487, have you got fitness equipment that's not being used for fitness?
Well, his gym bench, you know, the thing that you lie on to do chest press or whatever,
that is now my, when I iron, I put all the...
Oh, you do the ironing on them?
I do the clothes.
That's actually quite a good ironing board.
And it's all kind of set up ready to go too.
Sometimes with the ironing board, I know it doesn't take long,
but it's like, just grab it and set it up.
You just sit down an iron.
It's good to go.
And you can pump all your iron too.
