Starting point is 00:00:00 Coming up in the wild, wild web, North Korea's prank attack on South Korea. Just what are they doing? Welcome to the untamed realm of the world's wide web. A swirling vortex of weirdness, bullying, and self-obsessed social media posts. In this digital jungle, Jono and Vienna, your fearless guides. Leading you through the wildest parts of the wild, wild web. This is the wild, wild web. Here we go with another edition of the wild, wild web where we like to talk about something that's caught our attention
Starting point is 00:00:34 on the wild, wild web. But before we do, something that caught your attention, Megan, was a little viral thing that's going big on TikTok where you try not to laugh challenge. Yeah. And we've just done one. We just did it. You're like, hey guys,
Starting point is 00:00:47 we really should do this. You sing this operatic song. It's like, and you try not to laugh and then you'll get together and do it. And we're like, we had Coterie, which are awesome, you know,
Starting point is 00:00:55 Kiwi Australian band. Yeah. They were with us. We're like, we'll get them to do it with us. So we went to the stairwell and did it. And then Megan just nails the crap out of it. I thought they were going to be amazing.
Starting point is 00:01:04 Well, because they're incredible singers. Teddy Swimms is messaging them after their covers and going, oh, that's incredible. But they were having fun with us. Just having a laugh. They were like, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho. And they're doing monkey noises. Then Megan comes in with Old Pavarotti.
Starting point is 00:01:17 Old Pavarotti over there. Are you supposed to do your best to try and hit it? Okay, well, you do your best. And we're like, well, you just rip the rug out from the hole everyone's like oh it's done now it's done it's done yeah i think uh coterie were like oh so you like hey i've got this idea for a social video and then you drag us all in there and then my audition to be in the band yeah well they could you know i think you need to be related to them but that's yeah that's the way it's worked so far. You've got a great voice, though. Thanks.
Starting point is 00:01:45 Do you sing? No, not professionally. Don't you? No. That was mean of you. Once again? No, I don't want to do it again. You're embarrassing me.
Starting point is 00:01:54 No, I'm not taking the piss. I think it's genuinely good. Oh, hell, mate, buddy. Anyway. It's like Lewis Hamilton going, hey, should we go play go-karts? No, do you know what it is like? It's like doing karaoke with Laura McGoldrick and then you're like, oh yeah,
Starting point is 00:02:11 and then she cracks out Valerie and you're like, oh my God. She's awesome, mate. She's amazing. Yeah, she's very talented. But then you're right, then it's like you, it's done, it's done.
Starting point is 00:02:20 It's the night stuff, we might as well just go home. It's done now. No one's going to beat that. Do you want an encore performance? Yeah what do you want? So the new story That did capture my attention That I'd like to bring to you
Starting point is 00:02:31 Is North Korea Now obviously North Korea And South Korea It's well publicised That they didn't get on that great The two nations Neighbours at war The ultimate episode
Starting point is 00:02:40 And so North Korea Apparently are finding a new way And kind of gross way of annoying their neighbors are floating across our balloons now the balloons have underneath them sacks of rubbish where inside have everything from toilet paper suspected animal excrement uh all sorts of stuff over in these these balloons that are just getting sailed across kind of like a more gross version of that movie up instead of the house instead of the, it's just stuff that's, yeah. And they're big white balloons,
Starting point is 00:03:09 so it almost looks like a white flag, but then it's like, psych. And then so what, the balloons obviously slowly deflate and they end up in poor people's backyards. And stuff. That is a great prank attack. Like North Korea, they've done some stuff, nuclear stuff. It's a dictatorship.
Starting point is 00:03:23 And who knows what goes on behind those walls. But that's creative. Someone in the brainstorming room was like, Kim, go with me on this. Go with me. It's a sad thing when it comes to every city in the world and every country dealing with trash, right? It's a big problem.
Starting point is 00:03:39 What do you do with it all? Well, they've just solved it. Kim's like, I know. I know exactly what to do. Recycle. We're trying to get rid of it and do all that sort of stuff. I know exactly what to do. Recycle. We're trying to get rid of it and do all that sort of stuff. Can we do that to Aussie?
Starting point is 00:03:47 Yeah. We're quite far out. We don't really have any neighbours. I mean, the North Island, even doing it in the North Island, South Island probably wouldn't work,
Starting point is 00:03:54 would it? Nah. You'd have to do it over to Stewart Island. That would create civil war between the islands. We're very isolated here in New Zealand,
Starting point is 00:04:02 aren't you? When you think about it. You think about all those countries through Europe and other nations, Africa and stuff, they're so close to each other. But we like it like that. We're like, we're miles away from everywhere. Skiddy D, we just stay out of it.
Starting point is 00:04:11 It's a real mission just to get down here for anyone in the world. Yeah, it's hard when you're trying to travel. Yeah. And we're like, oh, Taylor Swift's not coming. Of course it's not coming all the way down here. Costs a lot of money. Go to a buddy, go get the the Bee Spark Arena, Taylor Swift. Oh, mate, lugging all my shit around the world.
Starting point is 00:04:31 It's been here before. We get all salty about it, don't we? I think slowly more and more of those big artists, we're just going to find ourselves having to commute to Australia. It does fall on the populations there already in those big cities. And like you say, in America, coast-to-coast flight, five or six hours, isn't it? Yeah. So it's just a domestic flight for...
Starting point is 00:04:47 Yeah. Time and money, it's just not worth it to come here. I do think, though, they should do the... If they don't come, that's fine, but they should put on... It's Olivia Rodrigo, it's Taylor Swift, whatever. Like, this is my New Zealand concert. And then open up the tickets to New Zealanders first. And then...
Starting point is 00:05:02 Oh, yeah. And then open up, just fill it out with Aussies. I was just thinking they should be open about doing the Eris Tour light, so she doesn't bring everything. Ah. She doesn't bring the stage and all the palaver. Just do the light version. Okay.
Starting point is 00:05:16 We'd still be keen for that. Oh, yeah. You'd still hear the songs, right? That'd be incredible. Sort of like what 660 are doing around the country right now, that grassroots tour. Yeah, yeah. That's a cool tour they're doing. Do we get to pay light prices for the tickets?
Starting point is 00:05:27 Yeah, sure. Basically no internet in Korea. No access to internet to North Korea. I suppose he doesn't want them Googling. Don't let them know what's going on. Don't let them know I'm lying. Doesn't he make up wild rumours about stuff in caves and make people believe weird
Starting point is 00:05:46 things. Yeah, he does. That's his jam. He loves basketball, eh? Dennis Rodman loves 90s NBA, doesn't he? I think he went to college in the US. That was, I guess, when the Chicago Bulls were the team. Michael Jordan, Scotty Pippen,
Starting point is 00:06:02 Dennis Rodman. That was my era of basketball. Me and Kim John, we could have some good banter about 90s basketball. And now he'll fly like Dennis Rodman over to North Korea to hang out, to watch some basketball, to do some stuff. He was the go-between for a while, wasn't he, between the US and North Korea, Dennis Rodman. A man who's really out there lucky. I admire the courage that Dennis Rodman has to wear all the things he does.
Starting point is 00:06:23 He's like, I'll do whatever. I think he's got a facial tattoo of his partner at the moment on his cheek. Not at the moment. That's forever. Oh, yeah, sure, at the moment. But it was all sorts, you know, pierce this, color this, whatever. He's just tattooed that, you know. All right, on that note, we'll just take a quick break from the Wild World.
Starting point is 00:06:38 We've been back shortly. Hope you enjoyed a message from our partners. This is a Michael Jordan documentary And he's playing for the Bulls And he's a bit of a Bit of a renegade And he's like I need to go and party
Starting point is 00:06:52 I need to blow off steam It was in the middle of the finals I think NBA finals Around the final series So he went missing The coach was like You've got 24 hours
Starting point is 00:06:59 In Las Vegas And then he went missing I think it was a couple of years I need longer And I think he ended up Going for a couple of days yeah and then I think
Starting point is 00:07:07 was it Michael Jordan had to storm into his hotel room and Carmen Electra was there and they had basically been whatever they'd been doing in the hotel room and had to watch some videos
Starting point is 00:07:15 drag him out yeah eating room service enjoying the sights and sounds but yeah he dated dated Madonna as well too
Starting point is 00:07:23 Dennis Rodman did yeah wow dated a few people actually Dennis Rodman did. Yeah. Wow. Dated a few people, actually, Dennis Rodman. That's an interesting guy, eh? Yeah. He's got a lot of children, doesn't he? Yeah, I think he does.
Starting point is 00:07:32 I think Madonna offered him, like, a $20 million contract. I remember seeing that the other day. She offered him $20 million to get pregnant to him. $20 million. Yeah. And he didn't take it? He didn't take it. No.
Starting point is 00:07:42 So, yeah. I don't think he... Yeah, he was like, like Hey we're in a relationship Three children So He's only got three Well I guess Oh okay
Starting point is 00:07:49 Sorry Take that back Take that back Trinity Rodman Who plays for the US She's awesome She's an awesome footballer
Starting point is 00:07:56 Plays for the US football team Soccer yeah Trinity Rodman DJ Rodman And Alexis Rodman DJ Rodman's playing DJ Rodman also looks like A basketball
Starting point is 00:08:04 Yeah a basketballer Yeah he's playing for a college USC And then what's Alexis Rodman. DJ Rodman also looks like a basketballer. Yeah, a basketballer. Yeah, he's playing for a college, USC. And then what's Alexis Rodman doing? There's a lot of pressure, though, being the kid to a very high-profile professional sports person. Especially playing the sport that the parent was really good at. There's a lot of talk at the moment about Bronny James, who's LeBron James' son,
Starting point is 00:08:23 who's a very, very good basketball player. But the scrutiny he gets on him for being LeBron's, you feel for a kid who's 19, 20 years old. It's a lot of pressure. Yeah, it is a lot. Alexis, I don't know what she does, but she's gorgeous. She's in a relationship. There's a scam through.
Starting point is 00:08:44 And no, nothing else I can find out about Alexis Rodman. But yes. She's got beautiful children. Trinity was here for the Football World Cup, wasn't she? Yeah. For playing for the US team. That's right. They're like superstars.
Starting point is 00:08:54 I think New Zealand didn't really know how big it, you know, they're a massive team. The US football team are huge, you know, and really successful. I don't think we can quite give them the respect they deserve. I mean, it was awesome to see all the games were sold out and stuff all the games through that football walk up
Starting point is 00:09:07 did you go to any? yeah I went to Kawhi it was good it was really fun it was awesome got swept up in it
Starting point is 00:09:13 I think FIFA the football craziness that they run they were so happy with the event that they're like oh we want to put the men's one on
Starting point is 00:09:22 in Australia and New Zealand oh that'd be incredible right yeah oh my god I don't know if we could handle it I don't know if that was one of those things you know like at the end of a party they're like oh we want to put the men's one on in australia and new zealand oh that'd be incredible right yeah yeah oh my god i don't know if we could handle it i don't know i don't know if that was one of those things you know like at the end of a party you're like we're gonna party forever tomorrow we're gonna do some stuff and then they wake up and went oh we're never gonna
Starting point is 00:09:35 i said i told you he's told you what yeah yeah yeah sometimes you get swept up in there we'll come back oh you'll come back all of their die hard fans have to fly halfway around the world to get here but it'll be fine yeah what they'll do they'll do FIFA light and they'll put on
Starting point is 00:09:49 just little versions of football events here's your World Cup New Zealand is this one count yeah two players on each team they're all retired players
Starting point is 00:09:58 oh it'll be fine World Cup light that's what they'll do we'll still go along it'll still be great yeah no it's good I was really when that event came I was like no one's gonna get into this The World Cup light. That's what they'll do. We'll still go along. It'll still be great. No, it's good. I was really, when that event came, I was like, no one's going to get into this.
Starting point is 00:10:13 And it wasn't any disrespect to women's football, just that we're not a football nation traditionally. Well, you look at like Eden Park, you know, which can be packed out for the All Blacks. But sometimes, you know, the Blues. The Blues struggled to sell. They're playing awesome. They sold out every game at Eden Park. Yeah. Yeah, it was good. It's a great middle finger
Starting point is 00:10:25 to people who are like female sports don't sell tickets it was incredible I took my daughters along and watched went to a couple of games
Starting point is 00:10:32 it was really really cool it was an awesome amazing thing to have in New Zealand and quite inspiring for I imagine Kiwi kids around the country
Starting point is 00:10:40 and like girls you know to try something different other than netball we're very much just pretty much netball for girls here. It helped that we won the first game, didn't we? That really got us all riled up.
Starting point is 00:10:51 Oh, Hannah Wilkinson scored that goal. We're like, yeah, we love this. It was awesome. You're right. Yeah. And then we did okay. But then I think at the end, we could have even done better. What do you think is the best event this country's ever held?
Starting point is 00:11:02 Okay, that you've attended. That I've attended? Oh, I mean. You get swept up in America's cup when it comes to rugby world cups are good i remember being part of like the huge crowd it was at the 2011 rugby world cup in auckland by october that was like incredible i've done some big events for commonwealth games not for a while though that was the commonwealth games was big in 1990 wasn't't it? That's why Mount Smart Stadium was built. I was too young to remember that. Do you know, I was at the opening ceremony of that as a child,
Starting point is 00:11:31 and I was... Because the night before, they had to do a rehearsal of the opening ceremony, and I was in Team Uganda or something, walking around the track. And that was my only memory. And I remember gymnast Nikki Jenkins. Nikki Jenkins Nikki Jenkins
Starting point is 00:11:45 Yeah New Zealand That got a medal right Out of nowhere She was pretty young And yeah Do you remember her Yeah A New Zealand gymnast
Starting point is 00:11:51 Got a medal Yeah That's incredible That was awesome Yeah Wow I know what she's doing now For what
Starting point is 00:11:56 Like Event I think it was a vault I think Oh yeah I think it was a vault Wow Gold medal
Starting point is 00:12:02 1990 It was a gold It was a gold Holy shit That's awesome It was New Zealand's First medal Gold medal, 1990. It was a gold medal? It was a gold. Holy shit. That's awesome. It was New Zealand's first medal at international gymnastics. And she was really young at the time. Yeah, I can remember her being.
Starting point is 00:12:12 She was 14 when she won gold. Like a teenager, yeah. Yeah, she was a bloody legend. I remember being very inspired by Nikki. I didn't go out and do gymnastics. Inspired how? How did it affect your life? I just remember
Starting point is 00:12:25 There was a lot of talk At primary school You had to do projects on her It was an awesome story Yeah 14 years Oh that is crazy Wow Mind you in China
Starting point is 00:12:33 They get them bloody Bouncing up and down At age 2 don't they They run them hard In China with the gymnasts That's why they're so good Yeah They get results in China
Starting point is 00:12:41 Don't they And in Russia Yeah A little bit of extra help. Yeah, but sometimes that's what you want. Kids on steroids, anabolic steroids. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:52 So what's going on? Oh, we've got a cake to go to. Grace, producer Grace's birthday. It's her birthday today. Happy birthday, Grace. We love you and everything you do for us. She's definitely not going to hear this, even though she loads this podcast in.
Starting point is 00:13:03 But Megan's going to go out and sing happy birthday, aren't you, Megan? Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. Pass off. Even though she loads this podcast in. But Megan's going to go out and sing happy birthday, eh? I mean, an operatic style. I'll just pause
