The Hit with Jono and Ben's Burner Phone.
It's Heating Up with the Burner Phone right now.
We've got a phone that you can leave a message on at any stage
and we'll clear one a day.
You can text BURNER to 4487 and we'll send you back the number
so you don't have to remember it, so you can save it in your phone.
You can call us 24-7, leave a message.
We had a message yesterday that we tried.
We tried our best to get to in relation to International Refrigeration
Day, Ben. Received at
8.21pm.
G'day, Jono and Ben.
Andre van Dijk here from
Christchurch. Told you about
my
mission to try and promote
refrigeration around New Zealand.
Hashtag promotefridgeNZ.
Have a look at it.
Get back to me, please.
I would love to be on your show or find me some traction for this year.
World Refrigeration Day is on the 26th of June.
There we go.
Andre, very passionate about refrigeration.
Wants to get the good word, spread the good word out there about International Refrigeration Day.
Now, we left him a voicemail yesterday, Ben, on his voicemail after he left us a voicemail.
I know.
It's like the voicemail inception right now.
We're going to try and give him a call back.
We said we'll give him a call today, and hopefully we can connect.
World Refrigeration Day, New Zealand.
I'm Andre speaking.
Oh, Andre.
Welcome.
Let's talk Turkey.
Jono and Ben here.
Hello. How are you guys? We're doing all right. Nice to talk to you again. Let's talk Turkey. Jono and Ben here. Hello, how you going, Ben?
We're doing all right. Nice to talk to you again. We got your message. I don't know if you know that, but we started talking about it yesterday on our Burner Phone podcast.
And now we're back. We're talking to you again. This is out in the podcast.
Indeed, yeah. No, I didn't get the message and I was gutted I didn't answer the phone yesterday.
No, that's fine. Hey, we'll get to it today, mate.
Yeah.
Okay, World Refrigeration Day. Why so passionate about refrigeration, Andre?
I've been in refrigeration since I was 16 years old,
so that's 35, 36 years that I've been in the trade.
And I just find it, for me, it's tickle the boxes.
Refrigeration's not only refrigeration,
it's also electrical, plumbing, all that kind of stuff.
But it also, you can go anywhere in the world
and get into that trade
and you've got a job on your hands.
Yeah, apart from the Antarctic.
I mean, they're pretty good for...
It's surprising to me
they still do have refrigeration down there, even though
it's a...
They still do. There's no point in it anyway.
You could save on... like, at Scott Base.
Have they got fridges at Scott Base?
They do, but I think they sort of probably work in reverse.
They probably heat it up instead of putting it down.
Yeah.
Well, you're very passionate about it.
I've looked online and there's some debates over whether you should put stuff in the fridge
or leave it out in the pantry or on the bench. So as refrigeration expert i wanted to ask you with more than 35 years experience
uh tomato sauce what are we doing uh according to the manufacturers it's supposed to be in the
fridge after opening but again i've seen everyone everyone's different some have it up some have it
in the fridge so yeah i keep mine in the fridge Warm sauce unsettles me. I do like it to have a slight chill.
Okay, eggs.
Again, over the years, I have worked on units that are refrigerated.
They've been at between 15 and 18 degrees,
but at the moment, yeah, there's no need for that.
I think the rules have changed on that front,
so, yep, yep again it comes
back to personal preference there's the egg little holders in a lot of fridges too so sometimes you
think well that's all right I will throw a couple more at you uh just quickly let's go uh tomatoes
fridge what about peanut butter I hate no I'm sorry I'm gonna answer this before you've even
answered I hate it when I pull peanut butter out of the fridge and you put it on the bread and it tears the bread apart.
So would you – okay, let's go peanut butter and jam, but separately.
Where are you putting them?
What's going on?
I would say from personal experience, peanut butter in the fridge
and the jam in the fridge.
That's what I'm doing too.
I'm putting my jam in the fridge,
but I'm grabbing the peanut butter from the shelf in the pantry.
I knew I'd like you, Andre.
I knew I'd like you.. I knew I'd like you.
So what do we do on World Refrigeration
Day? Are we
hugging the fridge, thanking the
fridge?
This is the first year that it's
been running for.
It's just a day that's set aside to celebrate
the refrigeration industry and all the people
that make it. You've got all the engineers,
the sales people, the design guys, everyone at the people that make it. You've got all the engineers, the salespeople, the design guys,
everyone at the end of the day.
So it's really, yeah, I'm passionate about it,
and I just really want to try and get it out there.
Get the people into the refrigeration trade.
Yep.
Come and work with the cool people in refrigeration.
Literally cool people, you know?
Yeah, they are cool.
What's the craziest thing you've seen in someone's fridge?
Because you always hear stories about,
oh, my friend put his amputated leg in the freezer,
and his auntie got it out and cooked it,
thinking it was a roast leg of lamb or something.
I'm not always hearing those stories, Jono.
To be honest.
You're always hearing those stories.
I'm like, are we?
To be honest, I've never even heard that story.
I just made that story up.
What have you heard?
What have you heard?
An actual story there,
Andre?
I haven't seen
anything like that
that John is talking about.
I'm always hearing the stories.
He's hearing them all the time.
In chillers,
big chillers and freezers,
I definitely see some sites
throughout the years
which we won't talk about.
Prosthetic legs, amputated legs.
Someone's whipping them up, cooking them.
No, that sort of thing.
We're always hearing about it.
Hi, RJ.
Lovely to talk to you again.
And thank you for being so passionate
and answering so many great questions on refrigerators.
That's all good, guys.
And thank you very much for allowing me to be on your show.
Hopefully I can keep spreading the word
and try and get the project
and maybe Nadia Lim and all those people involved too.
Oh, he's better getting Nadia Lim involved.
Love your work.
You're off the shift. Without refrigeration
they wouldn't be doing much cooking.
Exactly, mate. I love your work, Andre. You're going to
have a good one. Thank you very much, guys.
Yeah, there we go another episode of
