Welcome this is John Owen Benn here back for the Burner Phone 31st of October won't lie got no
messages today Ben Boyce on the Burner Phone. Nothing we need to clear today which is a good
feeling when you get to clear messages normally on your phone you're like no messages. However
for the the crux of this podcast, relying on voicemails.
Would you like me to leave a secret one right now?
Or is that just a waste of everyone's
time? Is there anything on social
media? Maybe we should have a quick look and see if
anyone's asked us anything on social media.
Oh, okay, yeah.
Because I don't often, I'm not very good
at the Jono and Ben DMs.
Sliding into some DMs.
I can't figure it out when someone's like,
oh, you've been sliding into the DMs,
whether that comes with positive or negative connotations.
Yeah, I think it can be negative.
There's an offer here from Space Studios for us.
What do they do?
If you ever want to hit up a dance class
for a TikTok or a social media skit,
we will do this for you.
Our studio is the home of dancers.
Just returned from the world of dance in Los Angeles.
Third place hip-hop team in the world.
TikTok dancing.
Jeez, I love watching it when it's all synced up.
I love people syncing up and dancing.
People are very good, aren't they?
Yeah.
Yeah.
But I feel like that could be the new TikTok Dancing with the Stars.
You know, just little...
It's funny because my daughter, she's right in that realm now.
And some of the songs come with some saucy undertones.
They do, yes.
And she's listening to them in the car and there's all sorts of words.
Yeah, sometimes it's quite bad language on some stuff.
I'm like, ooh, ooh.
Yeah, I go, ooh.
And then she goes, what?
But then I'm like, I don't want to put myself in a position where i'm having to explain what that is yeah so i just like let's
just turn that down for a second but then she's trying to figure out why it needs to be turned
down because they're so innocent obviously yeah and i'm like well they're not talking about a cat
darling yeah and sometimes when you know there is dances made to it you're like i don't know if
they really know what they you know what's going on no i don't almost need that and i feel like an old man here but go this
is the age appropriate the you know version yeah because you're like they're like what this is it
yeah that's that's what it is why my daughter actually um i was quite impressed actually she
was like i'm watching i was she's like i found myself watching too much tick tock so i deleted
the app from my phone i was like good on you she goes yeah i'm watching too much TikTok, so I deleted the app from my phone. I was like, oh, good on you. She goes, yeah, I'm watching too much of Instagram Reels now.
It was the same thing.
Yeah, she's like, it's just like TikTok, but like a week later.
So now I better delete Instagram, bring TikTok back.
I'm like, well, at least you're trying, which is good.
Because my son put like a, I think he regrets it deeply,
a timer on his phone.
You can have that, and then once your limit's up,
then it requests the adult for more phone time.
Gotcha.
And he's put it on for some flash of sensibility or something.
I think for studying because he's having to study at the moment.
But now he's sort of 45 minutes, can I have some more screen time?
Can I have some more screen time?
It's a good one to wield the power over though.
Yeah I've got the
same thing on apps
so whenever they
find to get an app
on their sort of
device it comes
through to me which
is great.
I'm in a powerful
position to go.
You start to lose
power the older they
get so anything you
can hold on to.
And they're probably
at the age now where
they can probably
decide on those ones
that are appropriate
but I'm like nah.
Just why?
I don't know.
Just because I can't.
But not now
because the next five years you're not going to be listening to me
yeah exactly
so that's the world of TikTok
how's our TikTok account going?
I try and put something
up there every couple of days
not a lot of people but sometimes people
are like see you on TikTok mate
kids
and they're talking about stuff that was from years ago,
and it lives a whole second life on TikTok,
the pranks and things that we used to do, Ben.
Yeah.
Yeah, exactly.
Yeah, no, it's going well.
Some of our videos get seen, yeah, by lots of people.
I was talking to someone the other day about TikTok,
and she was a social media expert,
and she was saying it was really fascinating.
She was saying that TikTok
is kind of like a stream.
She described it like you're standing next to a river
and sometimes you get caught in the
river and it goes. You put something in the river
and it goes and other times it doesn't go.
She's like, well, if I put a video out and I thought it was really
good and it doesn't go, I just repost
it. And what's the chances are no one's
seen it? Because no one's following you directly.
Really? Yeah. It's just going into one's following you directly, really. Yeah.
You know,
it's just going into,
it's getting pushed into all sorts of places.
You're just chucking it
at a wall
and seeing if it sticks.
Yeah,
so she's like,
just post a video
three or four times
on different things.
You could change something
if you want
or just post the same one.
Whereas,
you know,
because you're not,
you're not going to annoy
your followers really
because not as many people
follow as much as the videos.
As far as like Instagram
and Facebook,
you're kind of
going oh it feels like you're just taking up a lot of unnecessary space on tiktok how many of
you got seven different versions of this video yeah but it's an interesting way of looking at
it yeah it's totally different from other um other social media apps looking at our account
there you're robbie mungaseva next actor we put robbie mungaseva famous actor you'll know him
from wentworth and uh shorty street put him as aaseva, a famous actor. You'll know him from Wentworth and Shorty Street.
Put him as a checkout operator in a countdown.
3.8 million.
Yeah.
3.8 mil.
Yeah, but frankly, we did it on guys, 4.6 mil.
4.6. And it's amazing because those have been on YouTube and other things for a lot longer
and haven't got as many views.
How do you monetize this stuff?
Well, I suppose you probably could.
I don't know.
I don't know
with TikTok
you can on YouTube
probably when we're
setting up the account
there's probably a button
you need to click
do you want a dollar
for every view
no
just get it out there
it's like a river
get it out there
just keep it flowing
keep it flowing
oh hey well there you go
there's TikTok
and hey maybe we can
learn some cool
TikTok dances at space
