Starting point is 00:00:00 The Hits with Jono and Ben's Burner Phone. To leave you satisfied with whatever your queries are. Yeah, you can leave us a message at any stage. You can text Bernard at 4487. We'll flick you back the number, and it's an actual phone that does call around the office from time to time, doesn't it? It vibrates away. Yeah, it's a bit of a bone of contention too around the office because sometimes it'll go brrrr on the desk. And when a phone is brrrr on a desk, very noisy, isn't it? It is, you're right.
Starting point is 00:00:41 It really reverberates around the... The kids sometimes take a phone into the toilet you know just if they're in the bath or something. Geez I tell you what there's the acoustics in the bathroom. That really bellows throughout a household doesn't it? Well true. What's the strangest thing you've taken into a toilet with you? Do you watch the phone in the toilet? Read the phone? No I try not to. Just stay focused on the task ahead. Yeah, try not to.
Starting point is 00:01:06 But yeah, as I said before, many times on the show, my grandparents had a full bookcase in their bathroom. So magazines on there or just purely books? No, a lot of books. The Reader's Digest. Yeah, Geographics. Yeah, probably those sort of things and a lot of other books and stuff. Very old, old school books And stuff Very old
Starting point is 00:01:25 Old school books And stuff But yeah My granddad was a reverend So Yeah So it was probably You know
Starting point is 00:01:30 A couple of Bibles in there For good luck Yeah mate Yeah I don't know if the Bible Would have gone in the bathroom But there was definitely No sort of romantic novels
Starting point is 00:01:37 Or anything like that Yeah No sort of sexy Little mills and boon numbers Or anything No And all I Every time you tell that story
Starting point is 00:01:44 All I can think about is the bacteria. Yeah. It was something you wouldn't have thought, would not have thought of back in the day. And I don't think they would have either. Bacteria's just come into play and our paranoia around it. I know. And it's probably for the worst now.
Starting point is 00:01:57 It is. It's all like that. Yeah. Well, during COVID, so there's a whole bunch of bacteria just firing out of my mouth there. During COVID, and they'd have those, you know,
Starting point is 00:02:04 the graphics and the diagrams of when someone sneezes and the yeah the catchment area of a sneeze in a supermarket and you're like dear god do we need to see this or know about like is it best just left unthought about yeah i think probably it is yeah and it's probably better to you know to some of those things you you probably overly and i'm guilty of that as well i have been you know you get overly protective of those things and then you probably overly, and I'm guilty of that as well. I have been. You get overly protective of those things, and then you probably don't. It's kind of good to build up an immune system to those things. You'll be exposed to some of those things.
Starting point is 00:02:33 Sneeze straight into my mouth. Get over and done with. That's the thing. Boris Johnson, actually, that was in the news today. I was reading that. He was to try and alarm the fears of the people in Britain when he was prime minister during COVID. He suggested, now this didn't actually happen,
Starting point is 00:02:48 to be injected with COVID live on television. He was prepared to do that. To show them that wasn't. To show them, hey, I'm going to do this. I'll take the hat. Let's do it. And then I think they talked out of it. But yeah, that was something that he was prepared to do.
Starting point is 00:03:02 Now looking back, you kind of go, I can see why because it was so much fear yeah drummed up into everyone yeah you know so big big high concept idea though from boris yeah the live and the live injection i know rotate take put us on live yeah yeah but uh yeah i can see why but at the time there was so much fear around it that i imagine the health officials are like, this is going to look like an idiotic idea. In hindsight, yeah, buddy, get him on there. Alleviate the worry. I know.
Starting point is 00:03:30 But you know, there's so much fear and worry about, oh, this person's got it all. You know, we were like looking, oh God, I was at that supermarket an hour later than this person. You know, all that sort of stuff.
Starting point is 00:03:40 It was just a really weird time. Trump was certainly of that school of thought too when he was in power wasn't he He was of the let's plough on It would be interesting to see now if it happened again Not the COVID but something else What everyone's reaction would be
Starting point is 00:03:53 Totally different It's like when a census comes around And they're like you've got to fill this out or we're going to fine you And they don't You know It's like a storm's coming and you're like, is it? Yeah. I reckon now a lot of people would be like, yeah, we'll just plough on.
Starting point is 00:04:10 Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely. Yeah. You're right. And speaking of ploughing on, we're going to plough on with the burner phone. Here's today's message. Meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow,
Starting point is 00:04:21 meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow. Thank you. Bye. We know one of your dads. Oh, there he goes. Meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow. Meow. Meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow. Thank you. Bye. We know one of your dads. Oh, there he goes. Meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow. We know one of your dads. I'm gathering the jewel, meowing cats.
Starting point is 00:04:34 I like the cats. The cats was nice. I enjoyed that. It was good. I went to Cats the Musical, and I didn't hear that song in it, but maybe that's in another version of it. How was Cats the Musical? It was good.
Starting point is 00:04:44 Yeah. Like, it's good yeah like it's it's an interesting the storyline of the show is interesting because it's a whole collection of songs and stuff it was it's not really a story i mean there is kind of an overarching story that they they're all trying to be every year one cat gets sort of sent up to get reborn basically is it and they're all kind of pitching their case And stuff But it's kind of Yeah so each goes off Into their songs
Starting point is 00:05:07 I didn't even know That was a storyline of cats That's kind of the storyline From what I gather I might have got this A hundred percent I might have got this wrong But it's one go
Starting point is 00:05:13 They go to the Jellicle Ball Which is kind of like One of them gets chosen To get rebirthed again And reborn And that's kind of the thing I guess another life For the cat
Starting point is 00:05:21 Oh yeah Well they've got nine of them Yeah well that's what I thought You've got nine of them Do you need another one Yeah Do they cover that off No not really And there's no real dialogue As such It's all just song I guess another life for the cat. Oh, yeah. Well, they've got nine of them. Yeah. I thought you got nine of them. Do you need another one? Yeah. Do they cover that off? No, not really.
Starting point is 00:05:27 And there's no real dialogue as such. It's all just song. So, yeah. So that's what I took out of it and did a little bit of research on the show. So if anything, you guys have got too many lives. Yeah, exactly. You've all got enough to go around. You're greedy.
Starting point is 00:05:39 Yeah. But it's interesting from, yeah. Well, it's all a collection of poems that was turned into songs and stuff. So I guess that was probably, wasn't really written as in yes it's a story here's the you know but had to find a tenuous time then and then i'm gathering they know your dad kevin boyce they sounded like students i'm guessing it was my dad might be your dad um probably the one of those well-known school principals slash teachers in the game kevin boyce yeah no he's still he's still doing it i think he's he'll continue to do it for as long as possible.
Starting point is 00:06:05 He's semi-retired, he likes to say. Did he stop? Yeah, he kind of stopped, and then he kind of goes back. We need you back, Kevin. So retired. Like an action hero in the forest that gets going, you know? I did my last maths class. No, but he loves it.
Starting point is 00:06:20 He really does love it. So, yeah, I think it's good for him. He likes to keep going. Did he teach you a lot when you were in the house growing up? Oh, like, yeah, not in classes as such, but at home. Yeah, it was always kind of handy as a kid to go, hey, what's this thing? Because he'd know a lot more about that than I would. So, yeah, it was handy.
Starting point is 00:06:38 Nepotism or did he not do any favoritism? I feel like he was more – I mean, I was in the same school with him until probably about nine or ten maybe. But I felt like maybe he was conscious of not favouring me. So he's more of an arsehole. You know what I mean? Jeez, you're bullying me here. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:58 There was definitely a couple of times he'd get me out in cricket and I'd be like, what the, you know, he's umpiring. You know, you don't want to be the guy. How was the, you know, you're at the batting crease, he's the umpire what was that relationship dynamic like? Oh jeez, I'm out of it mate, alright. Purely professional? Yeah, definitely professional he's very honest my dad. Oh there we go
