The Hits with Jono and Ben's Burner Phone. saying them, but Gucci. I tell you what, when I'm doing the gardening, I wear nothing but Gucci. Now this is a special podcast within
our podcast. We started something. We bought
a burner phone from the gas
station. As we talked about
a little yesterday, we always think
that maybe a burner phone's used for
things that are a little bit sketchy.
But not necessarily. I imagine some people
they just roll with a burner phone.
027-2633-285
You can visit the social media pages
of the Hits Breakfast.
The number's up there as well.
We went to the States once on a work trip.
We bought a cheap...
We bought a burner phone for work-related purposes.
Did we?
Well, no, you weren't there.
No, sorry, I went to the States.
Okay, where's this hole you're digging?
Sorry, I can't...
I've been to the States a few times.
No, it was all for legitimate
work purposes
was it
it was
at the same time
we found all that
weed in the hotel room
but anyway
first time I've heard
of this burner phone
but anyway
but yes
let's clear another message
first new voice message
it is marked
urgent
from
it's Phoenix here
I saw you guys
on Facebook
and
I was just really
intrigued by that phone number so I thought I'll give you guys on Facebook and I was just really intrigued
by that phone number
so I thought I'll give you guys a call
and wow you guys are actually legit
so yeah I don't really have any questions
I just wanted to stop in and say hello
and yeah hope you guys have a good day
and yeah give me a shout out
alright sweet thanks guys bye Phoenix sounds lovely oh that me a shout out. All right. Sweet. Thanks, guys.
Bye.
Phoenix sounds lovely.
Oh, that was awesome, man.
Shout out to Phoenix.
Yeah, legit.
We put the phone number out on all sorts of social media as well.
I think you've written on a few bathrooms, sort of cubicles around town and stuff as well.
Get this number out there.
We're going to put it on community notice boards, whatever.
You can call it at any time.
But it is a legit number.
We will check it every day.
I remember back in the day where you would write your number on a bathroom wall, wouldn't you?
And you got results.
It was Tinder before Tinder.
All sorts of stuff was going on. It was for a good time.
I can't promise a good time, really.
Well, it depends what the good time is.
Go and play mini golf.
Oh, yeah, I could do that.
Yeah, I could probably promise that.
But for a good time, good time, I'm not putting myself,
I'm not confident in that regard.
An okay time?
Or just a time?
Just a time.
Yeah, we'll fill in some time.
Unforgettable, but not saying whether it was good or bad
would be what I would do.
We should call Phoenix back.
Okay.
Have we got Phoenix's number there, Producer Joel?
Yeah, we've got it here.
Yeah, thank you very much, Producer Joel, running the buttons here.
And Producer Joel, uh publicly and loudly and
arrogantly said he was going to run through the winter months wearing nothing but shorts has
worn long-legged trousers for the last two days i've noticed just really trying to you know up
my game up the standards around here you look good you look good get a bit of a dress code
going i reckon you know yeah you do look great hopefully phoenix will answer uh and feel free
to leave a message on the burner phone as well
It's quite exciting every day we get to check it
And we don't know what to expect
And where this podcast will head
Phoenix?
Hello there
Phoenix, it's Jono and Ben
Who?
Jono and Ben
Oh no way
Yeah, yes mate
You rang, we just played your message as part of our podcast on the burner phone,
and we thought we'd call you back.
We've given you a shout.
Oh, my gosh.
Thank you so much.
I seriously didn't think that you guys were going to listen to it.
That's why I was like, who's calling me right now?
No, we're very loyal to clearing the voicemail on the burner phone, Phoenix.
Now, tell us about Phoenix.
What are you doing?
Where are you?
What are you looking? Where are you? What are
you looking at right now?
Oh, well, I'm actually waiting for class to start because we've got the school holidays
coming up.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Well, for everybody over here. I'm just chilling with the rest of the staff members. So I just
had to run out quickly and take the call.
Oh, you got some... Are you a teacher?
Yes, I am.
Whereabouts are you teaching?
At Auckland Uni.
Oh, very cool.
Why does the university start like in March or something?
Wait, am I live right now?
No, you're a part of the podcast.
We're in the podcast right now.
So we can...
If you're happy to be part of the podcast,
if we're happy to continue what you've said so far.
I'm kind of nervous about it,
but whatever.
No need to be nervous.
You're in the safe hands of,
well,
the shaky hands of Ben Boyce and John O'Friar.
Yeah.
The two idiots,
right?
The two idiots.
You know us.
Should have spent it.
We should have gone to university.
I went to,
I did a degree,
but it was through the, the polytech, you know, but it's still a degree. Cool. Still a degree. We should have gone to university. I did a degree, but it was through the polytech.
But it's still a degree.
Oh, cool.
Still a degree.
What are you guys up to right now?
You guys just taking calls?
We're doing a podcast.
This is the bird of fire.
This is what happens.
Who knows where it's going to head to.
What do you teach at university?
I'm doing social work.
Oh, good on you.
Very cool.
Now, why, Ben, I know you just started asking this question.
Do you tell me why the university students don't start university
until like July, August?
I don't think it's that late.
But it's a late start, isn't it?
I'm not really too sure.
Everybody's different, I guess.
Are you at Auckland Uni, did you say?
Yes.
Tell you what, when I first started in radio,
my friends were going to university.
And what I didn't
realize was at university was shadows bar which is open at 9 a.m. or something
so I'd finished work in the morning boom straight to the Tuesday morning straight
to the bar
probably a bit sad and bleak
now.
He's still
trying to do it
now.
Oh,
it's a bit
sad,
mate.
Yeah,
come to
Shadows
if you
got.
I don't
even know
that you
guys had
a podcast.
I think
I must have
seen it on
Facebook,
but I haven't
actually tuned in.
I tuned in to
the pink one
that you guys
did.
Oh,
yeah,
we talked to
people.
That was
really cool.
This is the problem. This is why we're having to do more podcasts, because no one's listening to our podcast. that you guys did. Oh, yeah, where we talked to people. Yeah, that was really cool. Well, this is the problem.
This is why we're having to do more podcasts
because no one's listening to our podcast.
Pull back the curtain.
Oh, is that a podcast that you guys do
when you guys interview celebrities?
No, we do a radio show on The Hits, Breakfast,
but we also do, yeah, the podcast right now.
So you're on episode, this is the episode,
we're in the middle of episode two of this podcast
for The Burner Phone.
It's like a spinoff within our podcast.
Oh, sweet.
So how would I be able to re-listen to that one?
This one right now, you can listen on iHeartRadio
or wherever you get your podcasts.
It feels like great, great.
It feels like we scripted this.
It's great.
You're doing a wonderful job.
Phoenix, you have a wonderful day.
We're giving you a shout out on the podcast.
It's been lovely talking to you.
Yeah, thank you so much
For giving me a call
Like it was really surprising
But hey it's a blessing
For today
So thank you so much
I actually
Was going to order
Some fish and chips
Oh good
Yeah good
Yeah fish and chips
I was actually going to
Make an order
Because I didn't even know
What to say
So I thought
Oh no I'll just call up
And say hello anyway
Oh and order fish and chips
On the line
Okay what would you go
What would you go to At the fish and chip shop Oh man I would just call up and say hello anyway. Oh, and order fish and chips on the line. Okay, what would you go? What would you go to at the fish and chip shop?
Oh, man, I would just go for just a fish burger,
chicken burger, and just some chips.
Oh, that's a good combo.
I see.
I'll tell you what I've got into lately
at the old fish and chip shop.
The calamari rings.
Oh, calamari rings.
Yeah, nice.
You forget they're a forgotten item on the menu.
Yeah, those are really nice.
Yeah, they are.
They're nice.
They chuck them in the deep fryer and they're bloody,
who knows what they are, but they end up tasting good.
What I do, somewhere along the line,
fish and chip shops were generous with the fritter game.
Remember that?
Always give extra potato fritters.
And then it became a thing where people would order,
my dad would order like three,
but on the expectation we'd get like five.
And then be annoyed.
Well, those days were like they're generous with their portions and amounts,
while nowadays...
I don't know if they're still doing it.
He'd get annoyed.
He was like, well, they didn't give us the free ones.
You're like, but you didn't pay for the free ones.
What I appreciate too is it's the same meal.
It's the same menu from the top of the cape to the bottom of the buff,
but it varies in flavour.
The fish and chip menu.
Yeah, yeah, I understand.
Doesn't it?
It does, you're right.
From one shop to the other,
you'll get a completely different tasting fish and chips.
Yeah, that's so true.
Oh, Phoenix.
But nowadays it's different.
But hey, I'm definitely going to get one of those today.
Oh, enjoy, enjoy, Phoenix.
Thank you for being part of our second ever Burn a Phone podcast.
Oh, man, thank you guys so much, Jono and Ben, man.
You guys are the best.
We're certainly going to keep an eye out for you guys.
We'll see you at Shadows in about 20, mate.
See you at Shadows.
Have a beer waiting.
Jono's going to head along to Shadows Bar.
Well, that's the end of episode two.
Met lovely Phoenix, a social worker at Auckland University.
The people that you come across.
Yeah, that's very cool. No, that was worker at Auckland University. The people that you come across. Yeah, that's very cool.
No, that was the end of it.
Oh, that was like.
The people that you come across.
That was meant to be a thoughtful.
Well, you sort of said it when I was in flexion that I was like,
I better wrap it up.
I'll change the inflection.
Well, well, well, Ben.
The people that you come across.
If you want to leave a message on our burner phone, you can do so.
You get the number on our social media.
Or, Jono, you got off the top of your head yet?
No, still learning it.
You're very good with numbers.
Yeah, I haven't quite ingrained this one in my head though.
This is 0272633285 if you'd like to call the burner phone
and we could be talking to you about, jeez, we covered a lot of topics with Phoenix.
We're not necessarily going to call everyone back.
No.
But, you know, so don't feel like, oh, if you leave a message,
we're going to actually bombard you with a call.
But I just felt like, hey, we should call Phoenix back and tell them it was legit.
Also, if you want the cell phone number, you can just text BURNER to 4487
and it will bounce the number straight back to you.
Convenient.
