Starting point is 00:00:00 This is our Burner phone where we clear a message every day One message that you can leave us And you can just get the phone number If you text Burner to 4487 We'll flick you back the number And go ahead, leave us a message How do you reckon we've been doing this long enough To have loyal listeners
Starting point is 00:00:20 Oh, to the Burner phone? Yeah, and should we come up with cute names for them Like how they do the swifter maniacs or the beat you know the believers or something like there's a fun name that we could do
Starting point is 00:00:31 Bernie's Bernie's yeah burning sensations burning sensations burning sensations quite good yeah all right well if you are one of the burning sensations that listen to this
Starting point is 00:00:41 sensational podcast then go on leave us a message you don't even have to say your name. We're not going to necessarily call you back or anything like that. It's not like some people don't want to ring the radio because they don't want to go on air. Well, this is something you can kind of do anonymously. One of the hardest
Starting point is 00:00:55 things about radio is you do have from time to time people who don't want their real name on air and coming up with a fake name on the spot. It's a skill. Yeah, yeah, you're right. We often have the New Zealand Herald in front of us, so I like to just look at the first name that I see in there. Okay, I want a fake name.
Starting point is 00:01:12 What are you giving me? Ian. I'm looking at a picture of Ian Foster. I also need a surname as well. Okay, well, I won't go Ian Foster because that'll be like, oh, we've got Ian Foster. Ian Classifieds? Ian McKenzie. Oh, Ian McKenzie Ian Classifieds? Ian McKenzie.
Starting point is 00:01:25 Oh, Ian McKenzie? Yeah, I like Ian McKenzie. That's Damien McKenzie. That was the next picture I thought as well. I'll give you another fake name, okay, based on the next. Well, let's go. Oh, okay. This is tricky.
Starting point is 00:01:38 Who's this? She told you it's a tricky task. I was just trying to find it. Martin? Yep. Martin, you're like Martin Joblin. Martin Joblin? Martin Joblin? What does Martin Joblin do?
Starting point is 00:01:47 Well, Chris Joblin is the chief executive of a company, and Martin Thompson, he's a partner in another business as well. So there you go. Martin Joblin. Yeah, it's Martin Joblin. It's a great hack, making up names, isn't it? Yeah. If you
Starting point is 00:02:03 had the choice to have another name that wasn't Ben? It's a tough one, isn't it? Because it's kind of... I always don't like the name of people that have cool names, but then I don't think I'm cool enough to pull them off. Blaze? You know, things like that. I'm not a Blaze.
Starting point is 00:02:17 Remember I tried to call myself Johnny Thunder or something, didn't I? Yeah, that's right, and it didn't... Yeah, you mocked me. Yeah, you're not really a Johnny Thunder. Thunder thighs. We do have a message, you're not really a Johnny Thunder. Thunder thighs. We do have a message, though. We should get to that. Received today at 10.13 a.m.
Starting point is 00:02:34 Hey, guys. Got a bit of a question for you. My friend is in America at the moment, and she just posted a bunch of photos of Mount Rushmore. And I was thinking, if New Zealand had a Mount Rushmore, who do you guys think would be, I think there's four, who would be the four Kiwis that would be on Mount Rushmore if we had one?
Starting point is 00:02:53 All good. Thanks, guys. That's a good question. It feels like this is too good for the burning sensations. Yeah. Not that we think any less of the burning sensations. Oh, I know, but this is, you know, you're right, actually. This is the perfect place for it.
Starting point is 00:03:06 That's a really good question. The most famous, iconic New Zealanders. Okay, are we going throughout history or are we going of recent times? That's the other thing as well. I was instantly thinking throughout history, thinking people like Kate Shepard, Sir Hillary, you know. Yeah, yeah. Okay, well, let's get them out of the equation.
Starting point is 00:03:21 Let's say they're a given. Let's talk about people who are alive now and making a great impact. Rutherford split the atom, you know. He would pop and be up there. Cook? No, no. No, we've got a New Zealander to start off with, you know. He's good, bad, you know.
Starting point is 00:03:39 Maui? You chucked Maui up there? Well, yeah. He fished up the bloody thing, mate. Yeah, well, true. Maui, yeah. Maui up there Well yeah He fished up the bloody thing mate Yeah well true Maui Yeah Maui Yeah I'm trying to think There's lots of
Starting point is 00:03:49 I mean iconic New Zealanders Okay well Wipe out the iconic ones Okay so let's go The ones who are living today Who deserve to be chiselled Onto the side of What do you reckon
Starting point is 00:03:58 Where are we putting this thing to Oh Mountain Oh well let's put it up Where Ruapehu Yeah We're at the moment you know because you know they're shutting down the ski field i'm sure about the skis at the field so we're putting up a mount rushmore there oh there you go so i've just googled some 26 new zealanders famous new zealanders
Starting point is 00:04:16 names you should know uh that's okay so peter jackson he would be an option yeah he's a great option tyker would you put tyker up there would? Taika would be a possibility for the top four, definitely. Lord, Sam Neill. Yeah, Sam's great. He deserves to be chiseled in up there. Yeah, Taika's on this list of famous people as well. Dane Jane Campion. Campo?
Starting point is 00:04:37 Yeah, another great New Zealander. How many can we have up? There's only four of us. Four, so you've got to really narrow it down. That's where it gets tricky, right? I'd be no good at picking. Briscoe's Lady. She deserves to be on there.
Starting point is 00:04:47 I'd probably put the Briscoe's Lady up in the mix, right? This is. I'm trying to think who's. John Olomou. Oh, no. Not currently, you know, but of the last sort of, you know, just a legend. Yeah, it's tough. Okay, let's
Starting point is 00:05:05 Let's categorise it Okay So we'll pick one From each Each section So I'm going to go Media I was probably going to
Starting point is 00:05:11 Make it even harder I'm going to go media Because we just had Lord Sorry we just had Taika and Peter Jackson Now you're like
Starting point is 00:05:16 One of them Now I'm like And Jay can be like Get rid of one of them One of them's got to go Okay so let's go Let's go media Who are you chucking in
Starting point is 00:05:22 For media Cliff Curtis Another great one. Media icon. Hosking. Hosking. Hosking for media. Got to be living now.
Starting point is 00:05:31 Okay. Yeah, well, I mean, iconic. Hilary Barry. Another iconic. That's too hard. I'm going to go Hosking. Okay. Only because it'll get some street talk going.
Starting point is 00:05:40 Yeah, it'll get some. And he'll love it. Controversially. He'll take his helicopter up there and go and say, okay, Hoskings in the media okay let's go film and television taika sir peter jackson would be a you know from but you're gonna go in the now like speedy jackson great career still having a fantastic career so richard taylor with a wetter workshops i'm gonna i'm gonna play to the topical Ben, I'm going to go Taika
Starting point is 00:06:05 just because it's off the now No problems with Taika? I'm going to say we've got to put a politician up there got to put someone up there this is where it's going to get spicy who's the current who deserves it
Starting point is 00:06:21 currently sitting in Parliament currently, so Jacinda's So Jacinda's out? Jacinda's out. Oh, no, no. Oh, no, you said currently sitting in. Yeah, yeah. It would have to be Hipkins, would it? What, by default?
Starting point is 00:06:34 Because he's leader. But you can pick anyone. Well, currently sitting in Parliament. Collins. Judith Collins. Oh, you put Judith Collins on there. Yeah. Seymour.
Starting point is 00:06:42 David Seymour's eligible. Yeah, true. Chloe Swarbrick There's some great politicians I'm just trying to figure out which one we would like to lock in Let's say a sports person You've got to put a sports person up there as the final fourth Current sports person You've got Sophie Pascoe
Starting point is 00:07:00 Lydia Coe Lisa Carrington Stephen Adams You look at great All Blacks as well Lydia Ko. Lydia Ko. Lisa Carrington. Stephen Adams. Oh, yeah. You look at great All Blacks as well. I mean, the Warriors. It's not going past the Warriors.
Starting point is 00:07:12 It's, yeah, Tohu Harris. Put him up there, you know? I think Tohu Harris is fantastic. Put him up there. Okay. I love Tohu Harris. Yeah, no, he's great. Okay, let's just go.
Starting point is 00:07:24 Who's achieved great? Sean Johnson. Yeah, Sean Johnson. Great season so far. So you put him up under a – Brendan McCullum coaching the England side. Prerequisite of Sean Johnson. Currently, you know, current form. You're the only one in current form.
Starting point is 00:07:39 Currently, what are the – oh, jeez, this is a tough one. Yeah. I'm going to go Israel Adesanya. There you go. That would have to be who it would be. On the world scale, jeez, this is a tough one. Yeah. I'm going to go Israel Adesanya. There you go. That would have to be who it would be. Yeah, on the world scale, no one is doing... Well, not saying no one is doing better, but is doing incredible on the world scale.
Starting point is 00:07:53 Okay, let's chuck up Israel Adesanya. Okay. Let's chuck up a scientist. Nanogirl. Nanogirl probably deserves to be up there. That's only because I don't know too many other scientists. Rocketman. Peter Beck. Peter Beck.
Starting point is 00:08:06 Peter Beck. Yeah. Rocket scientist. Can we have half of Nano Girl's face, half of Peter Beck's face? I think we've already filled out the final four. We're just adding more people like New Zealand. When you actually have a conversation like this, you go for a small country, break it down per capita.
Starting point is 00:08:21 Some really successful Kiwis. It definitely is. It's amazing. Great question. Great question. We should take that to the radio show sometime. So I appreciate that. If you want to leave us a great question.
Starting point is 00:08:32 I don't know if we answered it. No, we kind of just categorized it. So that's why I feel like we could really settle on a four another time. Okay, we're going to continue this conversation on. Yeah, great conversation. Yeah, all right. Thanks for joining the Burner Phone. Thank you for being a part of the Burning Sensations.
