Starting point is 00:00:00 The Hits with Jono and Ben's Burner Phone. It is our Burner Phone, we check our message every day, you can leave us a message at any stage on the Burner Phone, you'll get the details at the end of this podcast, but we really enjoy clearing your messages. Complicated situation happening just metres from us right now Ben Boyce, there is a morning tea of epic proportions taking place. It's huge, it's going on, because we're in the studio right now. We're recording this. But big, big windows out to the office. And there is a lot of people around for a morning tea. Yeah. Now, I'd say 20 to 30 bodies.
Starting point is 00:00:32 It's a textbook office morning tea. Sausage rolls, mini pies, a cake. Lovely looking cake. We haven't gone out yet. We're not. I don't think we're invited because you did check the calendar. We got a bit of a, we're like, oh, dear God, is this a morning tea we should be attending? We're not very good at some think we're invited because you did check the calendar. We got a bit of a we're like, oh dear God, is this a morning tea we should be attending? We're not very good
Starting point is 00:00:48 at some of the admin on that sort of thing. For time to time, you know, there's emails sent round and you don't always click yes on those things. And you should. So I'm trying to get good on that, but I haven't seen that one. No, I've let the old work email get away on me. But we are debating as to what it is.
Starting point is 00:01:03 Are we dealing with a birthday situation? Are we dealing with a going away? We'll paint the picture for you. Big cake. There were speeches. There were hugs. Well, I don't know what to do. I feel like speeches is
Starting point is 00:01:18 someone's going away, right? Yeah. Okay. The birthday, you know, let's hear from the old mate. You're like, well, thanks. It's been a great year. 27. What a year. Now, producer Joel's just come in from the morning team.
Starting point is 00:01:31 Of course, he'd be a part of the morning team, mate. I was there, yeah. Okay, let us guess. Ben's locking in, it was a going away. I'm going to say it was a significant birthday. Talking the 21st, 30th, 40th, 50th. Did you guys not see the calendar invite? Or nah?
Starting point is 00:01:45 No. I'm pretty sure it was in your calendar. It sent to taylor and i i think we forgot to pass it on to you because you guys were on break it was uh death no sorry no no no no someone's going away the guy said it felt like a death to him, though, out there. Yeah, it was. One of the girls who does sales and stuff in the different brand here. So they work across the hallway from us. Yeah, right. But Rob, a guy who also works across the hallway from us,
Starting point is 00:02:18 who's a great cook, a great baker. Provided the goods. Probably one of the best spreads. And you know me. I love your morning tea. Rob can. But Rob is a master baker, isn't he? He is. Jeez, I tell you what.
Starting point is 00:02:29 So every week he brings in a creation that would be worthy of a reality TV show. Oh, I know. It's awesome. Okay, so someone's leaving. That was what you picked it was? Yeah, it was. Yeah, it was. Congrats.
Starting point is 00:02:40 Off to England. Okay, so this is what I, it's a happy leaving. It's not like, sorry, you've been squeezed out of the company. Those ones are always a little difficult. Yeah. We had a very awkward going away. Remember our last job? It wasn't an awkward going away,
Starting point is 00:02:56 but remember that was an awkward moment where we were kind of making that speech because we were leaving the company to go in another company. And we know we've worked, both of us for many years have been in great company. Both companies are great. But we had solomino solomio remember the
Starting point is 00:03:07 operatic singers they were waiting for an interview to come with us and they were kind of awkwardly it was awkward because they were there kind of going uh we just wait for an interview but now we're caught up in our going away speeches yeah and it was awkward because we were leaving to the opposition company yeah so you know no one really wanted to be there. We didn't really want to speak. No one wanted to listen. And Sole Mio didn't want to sing. I said, and look, we've even provided... We brought them along. They're going to sing.
Starting point is 00:03:32 They're like, don't represent us. Lovely guys, but yeah. You know, one of my favourite, if we're talking about going away functions, or going away morning teas was someone was departing our TV show. Remember? Our friend Andy was leaving. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:46 Jeez, there was tears. There was emotion. It was very emotional. Well, you'd worked with Andy for a number of years, so it was all justified emotion. He left and then returned. About six months or so. Maybe a year later, maybe it was.
Starting point is 00:03:59 I felt like less than that. Yeah, he came back and everyone was like, we can't come back. We were all cried. So we didn't give him a job. Sorry, mate, due to crying- was like, we can't come back. We were all cried. So we didn't give him a job. Sorry, mate, due to crying-based reasons, we can't. But yeah, he came back very quickly after his departure, which threw us all. It's like, mate, we're all emotional.
Starting point is 00:04:15 There was a lunch. There was speeches. You can't return once you've had that level of farewell. But let's check out today's message on the burner phone. If you'd like to leave us one, you can text 4487. It'll bounce back the burner phone number, and here is the voicemail. I was just wondering, if the answer's
Starting point is 00:04:32 Sunday, what's the question? Oh, they're doing them with the answer's Sunday, what is the question? The classic, the viral New Zealand clip, wasn't it? Yeah. The answer is Father's Day. Was the... It was Father's Day. Was the answer Sunday or Father's Day?
Starting point is 00:04:46 I can't remember. There's been a lot of jokes made around this. A very funny bit about Father's Day. Is it around in the system? February 1st trivia, answer tonight, Sunday. What do you reckon the question might be? Father's Day. What about Father's Day?
Starting point is 00:05:00 Father's Day is on Sunday. Yeah, but what's the question? Oh. Oh. No, I don's the question? Oh. Oh. No, I don't know. Oh. You're close. I just need the question.
Starting point is 00:05:12 Oh. I'm not too sure. Like, the answer's Sunday, but what would the question be? Oh. All I know is Father's Day. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You're kind of right. I just need to know the question.
Starting point is 00:05:23 Oh. The 31st? Yeah, yeah, yeah. I just need to know the question. The 31st? Yeah, I just need it in a question. So the poor lady, she was getting... The structure of the question was confusing. It's a confusing game. I'll just say, Gareth is the radio announcer who... We know, he's a friend of ours.
Starting point is 00:05:39 And I've said to him before, it's very confusing. Let's have a listen to the questioning again. Fair reverse trivia answer tonight, Sunday. What do you reckon the question might be?, it's very confusing. Let's have a listen to the questioning again. Fair reverse trivia answer tonight, Sunday. What do you reckon the question might be? So it's reverse trivia. So they're giving you the answer this Sunday. And then you're meant to say the question. But I'm sure at some stage she's like, oh, it's all about what day is Father's Day.
Starting point is 00:05:56 No, but he's, yeah. Yeah, what are they wanting? I see what you're saying. So she needed to go, what day is Father's Day? She knew it was Father's Day. She had the answer right. But I guess it was reverse trivia, so she had to do it in the form of a question, and now it's become a viral meme.
Starting point is 00:06:11 Sunny was her name. She's a lovely lady. Guy Williams on our TV show went down and met her, and they had a lot of fun. And then Guy, when he went to recreate it, screwed it up as well. And he's like, yeah, you're right. This is so confusing. Because the format is, yeah. Yeah, you're right.
Starting point is 00:06:33 Okay, let's play reverse trivia now yeah okay okay the answer is computer oh what are you staring at right now well done yeah hey good work okay let's see that oh you've really explained the format of the game i get it i don't know if that's you know like maybe okay the answer is if i went like okay okay, Sam Kane. Who was the All Black captain? Yeah. There you go. We're nailing this. We're nailing it.
Starting point is 00:06:51 It's actually a fun little game, isn't it? It is. Reverse trivia. Reverse trivia. I see why they did it. But that went viral. And then Gareth, as who'd been mentioned, who was the announcer, it's become the bane of his life. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:00 Every Father's Day he's wheeled out all the radio hosts interviewing him. That never went to air too, right? Never made it to air. I mean, obviously the bit did. He edited down bit as well, but that was just a bit that. It was all off-air recordings.
Starting point is 00:07:11 Yeah. Yeah. Stitched up in the edit. Stitched up in the edit. So that was, that was what day is Father's Day? I'll give you the answer.
Starting point is 00:07:18 Burn a phone. What are we finished doing? Yeah, well done. Well done. Very good at this. Yeah, yeah. And if you'd like to join us on the Burner Phone,
