Starting point is 00:00:00 The Hits with Jono and Ben's Burnaphone Is it cause for celebration or you just churn them out every day? A hundred. Let's get to a hundred. We should have a wee celebration for the benefit. What do you think the best birthday is? Best birthday year you've had thus far? I feel like when I was a kid, you're a lot more, and I say it to the kids at the time, they're a lot more excited about birthdays than when you get older, I think. Yeah, the candle really starts to blow out, doesn't it? Kids, you're like, you know, it's almost like I have one and they're like, 364 more days to go to my birthday. they're counting down from a long way out aren't
Starting point is 00:00:48 they so yeah so i feel like as a kid it was probably the same you know very excited about it being all about yourself what do you reckon the best age ages i'm trying to think where i'd say probably 19 20 21 you've just got your freedom. Your adult sort of, you know. Yeah, you've cut the ties of, you know, you've cut the apron strings from the household, haven't you? No real, that's kind of a sweet spot where you kind of had no real responsibilities as such,
Starting point is 00:01:18 other than kind of, well, I'd say looking after yourself, but not really looking after yourself. But you know what I mean? It's only just you. You know, as you get older, you have obviously, you know, that's where things can come in like mortgages or jobs. It's a sweet little spot. Kids and all sorts, you know.
Starting point is 00:01:34 And, you know, I think I was getting paid in promotional party pills for about three years when I first started in radio. And that's all I needed to get by. And that paid the rent. And you'd sell things from the radio station and it was a wonderful period too
Starting point is 00:01:49 wild period too and if you do something stupid it's still excusable because you're young yeah you're still oh they haven't developed although I feel like
Starting point is 00:01:56 that's it might be interesting to know if that's changed now with social media and stuff because people are very critical of people younger people these days
Starting point is 00:02:04 making mistakes. I don't feel that people get to learn from their mistakes as much anymore. I feel like everyone's just out to hate on everyone else and don't probably go, oh, they're a 21-year-old or a 16-year-old kid
Starting point is 00:02:15 or something like that. They're just like, yeah, so I don't know. Yeah, you're right. So we should feel sorry for, we've all been there. We've all done stuff. But we haven't been there
Starting point is 00:02:23 under the social media mic. No, you're right.'re right 16 to 20 years old You know And that's what worries me It really does Like the people Just putting stuff out there Putting people out there
Starting point is 00:02:32 Gotta be careful We went to a thing The other night Because Oscar my son Is mad on basketball And his dream is to go To a US college And the person
Starting point is 00:02:41 Who was saying Listen To get to the colleges on an athletic scholarship, you're going to have to have a YouTube channel and an Instagram account sort of showing your skills. But she's just like, just be careful what you put on the internet. Because it lives on there forever. And she said all the colleges, they look at the channels, but then they go typing and researching because you're going to represent them.
Starting point is 00:03:04 They go a bit deeper. They deep dive into what you've actually put on the internet. And what friends have put up about you, what other people have put up. It's interesting. Old men, bloody, look at that. For example, though, you could have a shot of you with toilet paper hanging out of your bottom drinking, and you have to drink as they
Starting point is 00:03:20 light the toilet paper before it fizzles out. You could put that on the internet. Who would put that? I'm not saying light the toilet paper before it fizzles out. You could put that on the internet. Who would put that? Who did? Hey? Who would what? I'm not saying producer Joel text me that exact video on Saturday night. And I said, I'm going to give that a go with the family.
Starting point is 00:03:37 Did you put that on the internet or was that just text only? I think there's a few Snapchat videos of it. It wasn't me as well. It was a friend of mine. Well, do they know that they can't play? They're probably not going to get a basketball scholarship? Scholarship? Yeah comfortable with that okay that's fine i was listening to you guys before and like the only thing about posting social media videos obviously it's bad there's there's a lot of you can get exposed and stuff but there's so much content going every day on the internet people forget
Starting point is 00:04:00 about stuff so quickly people move on is that what generation's thing? Yeah You can chuck anything up Because it'll just get Clouded over by all the new stuff That rolls in Pretty much Like there's just so many Different reels And TikTok videos
Starting point is 00:04:13 Yeah you're right You're right Stories deleted after 24 hours So you can pretty much Post whatever you want These days Well yeah Listen you've just undercut
Starting point is 00:04:21 Everything Us two responsible old men But then I'm like Well people can I was having a conversation With my other But then I'm like, well, people can. I was having a conversation with my other kids about that the other day. You know, people can record that. Or screenshot. Yeah, they can screenshot.
Starting point is 00:04:30 They can record that. What do you say to that, mate? That is true. They can. They can. That vindictive people. But, you know, it's a lot of things. But you are right.
Starting point is 00:04:40 And if you are of the age and you're all doing it, then no, there's not going to be one person who's like, oh, I'm going to stitch them up for their, you know, when they're trying to get into bloody Deloitte's or whatever. What is Deloitte's? It sounds like a company that people would try and get into. It's a great company. What do they do?
Starting point is 00:04:58 Deloitte's. I don't know. I've seen it on buildings. Is it like a lawyer or something? Yeah, anyway, it sounds prestigious. It sounds like accounting firm. It sounds like they don't want any shady videos of their staff. Anyway, this is the burner phone.
Starting point is 00:05:08 You leave us a message. If you want the number, text BURNER to 4487. And you could be leaving a voicemail like this person. Morning, Jono and Ben. I've got a random yarn. A few years ago, I worked at a preschool. We had a pair of twin girls that were a handful, to say the least. They would do things like give themselves haircuts at school and they needed constant supervision. One particular
Starting point is 00:05:32 day one of them had been told off for licking and eating the communal play-doh. They ended up getting revenge on the teacher. One of them stole her jandals, taking them to the kids' bathroom, putting them in the toilet. Had a twin did a poo on them. There were three masterminds, and I'm still blown away by the meticulous planning these girls had at three years old. Cheers, guys. It's Kelly. That's a great story, Kelly.
Starting point is 00:05:58 That is a great story. That is early childhood teaching, and twins are a nightmare. They are. I can imagine they could be, potentially, if they work together like that. Yeah, that is genius. And eating the communal Play-Doh, then they're like, okay, well, this lady's told us off.
Starting point is 00:06:19 We're going to have to, there's going to be some sort of revenge plot here. I don't know what will poo on her jandal. Yeah. That is good. Do you know twins? Yeah, a few sets of twins around the top. You've got a funny story about a friend. Oh, identical twins.
Starting point is 00:06:34 Yeah. Yeah, they're good mates of one of our mates as well. They're lovely, lovely guys. But yeah, and it does confuse me. Like I've met them a few times, been to weddings with them, and they are very identical. And so I kind of, you know, like if I see them together, I can kind of go, oh, that's this one and that's that one.
Starting point is 00:06:52 But if I see them separately, I'm like. Can't tell the difference. I'm like, oh, you know, and I start to sort of go, oh, how such is it? You know, just to try and find out. Piece it together. Piece it together which one of the twins they are. But one of the twins works in a place and they didn't realize he was an identical twin and someone who just started at the work a
Starting point is 00:07:09 bit of a larrikin around the office at deloitte's uh shall we say shall we say i employed him he didn't have any shady social media videos i think it was deloitte's but anyway uh he saw what he thought was his work mate uh at the pools there was a gym with a pool and he got out of the uh the pool and he went up to what he thought was his work mate and the pools. There was a gym with a pool. And he got out of the pool and he went up to what he thought was his workmate and he was like, oh, mate, you know, you're doing some swimming, you're looking a bit podgy. And started sort of grabbing his sort of stomach area, sort of lightly ribbing him, you know, giving him a bit of fat,
Starting point is 00:07:36 shaming him, thinking, oh, this is a bit of office banter. So did he literally grab a bit of stomach fat and jiggle the fat? And the guy was like, excuse me, who are you? Like this. And the guy walked off going, oh, that was a weird encounter. I saw the guy at work the next day, and he was like, oh, you were a bit weird at the gym, the pools yesterday. He goes, I wasn't at the gym.
Starting point is 00:07:56 That was my identical twin. And so, yeah, he was like, oh, well, I fat shamed someone there. I don't know, thinking it was someone else. My God, you just want to crawl away. But yeah, we had the Wild Twins who come here for interviews every now and then. Two sisters who are on Discovery Channel International. They're Kiwis. And they were on a show called Naked and Afraid, weren't they?
Starting point is 00:08:22 That's right. And they had to survive in the wilderness, like in Africa and things like that. They're identical. I can't tell them apart. No, you're right. And they answer the same questions at the same time. We did a twin test on them. And they would say the same thing.
Starting point is 00:08:37 That's right, they did. It was freaky. But I suppose you would have that connection spiritually and genetically. They are wild, too those they're awesome they're lovely lovely people but they did that show uh yeah you're right it was naked and was it naked and afraid and they were basically just dropped in the middle of south african like a you know the wilderness and just i mean first step if i'm naked i'm already afraid okay then you chuck me in the bloody middle of the wilderness.
Starting point is 00:09:05 With nothing really other than the test. Yeah, and I see there was all sorts of jaguars and all sorts of animals, elephants, all around camp at night. The crew, I think they just left them to it overnight. The jaguars are like, Jesus, they look naked and afraid. I just could not go on a trip like that. But they did, and they ended up hunting for stuff to survive and all that.
Starting point is 00:09:27 So pretty impressive. Here we are. This is some fun facts about twins that should surprise you. I've just looked up here. Do you know it's possible for twins to have two, to have different dads? What is that? How? How does that work?
Starting point is 00:09:41 What? So same mum, different dads. I'm going to click onto the link. We need to get further clarification on this one. It's possible for twins to have different dads. How would that be? Well, that would mean that the mum would have to have a, like, would it be?
Starting point is 00:10:01 In rare cases, here we go, in rare cases, fraternal twins can be born from two different fathers in a phenomenon called heteropaternal superfecundation. He's talking in our ears. You can't hear it on the podcast. We don't need the smut on the podcast. I don't even need it in my ears right now. But it's heteropaternal superfecundation.
Starting point is 00:10:28 And although it's very uncommon, rare cases have been documented where a woman is pregnant by two different men at the same time. So they have to be in pretty quick succession. That's happened, right, for that to happen. Well, actually, what Joel was suggesting in my... Might have been a case. A menage a trois to happen. Well, actually, what Joel was suggesting in my... Might have been a case. Might have been a case. A menage a trois of sorts.
Starting point is 00:10:48 Maybe. Maybe, yeah. That is very rare too, isn't it? Yeah. And to have it go, oh, oh. Oh, at the same time.
Starting point is 00:10:55 Yeah. Yeah, that could, well, that's probably the only way it could. Yeah. Could actually happen because it would have to happen within...
Starting point is 00:11:01 Yeah. Impeccable timing. Required. Required. From all of them. From all of them in that scenario. and within impeccable timing required. From all of them. From all of them in that scenario. That's a real Cirque du Soleil sort of achievement, isn't it, really? Yeah, well. It happens.
Starting point is 00:11:16 Yeah. That is crazy. Just to be, and then like two, yeah. Yeah. Here we go. Here's a happy three-person couple here celebrating that fact. Oh, that's... Yeah. I mean, the two...
Starting point is 00:11:28 We had a wild night. Guess what? It's continuing because we're in our role. Oh, jeez. I thought we'd never talk about that. Well, everyone's talking about it because you're both the dads. That's a crazy fact. Well, there we go.
Starting point is 00:11:42 Hey, well, that's the Burner Phone. You never know where it's going to end up, but if you would like to leave us a message. If you want to join the burner phone podcast, text BURNERPHONE to 4487 and we'll send you our digits. You could be on tomorrow's episode.
