Starting point is 00:00:00 The Hits with Jono and Ben's Burnaphone Is it all sexy stuff? No, I don't think so. I think it's just personal stuff. It's probably one of those things where everyone that's doing it is that. But I think there is some of that. But I also think there's other stuff that's probably for super fans of people that just really want to know what people are up to in their lives. Who are only fans. Yeah, only fans. Yeah, it gets tarnished, doesn't it, sometimes. I was trying to think of something else that's been tarnished,
Starting point is 00:00:47 but I can't think of anything else. But there are probably other, plenty of other examples that I can't think of either. You're like, oh, you're doing that. What's been tarnished? Yeah. No, I can't think of any tarnished things. Probably like some, you know, Michael Jackson. No, yeah, well, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:01 He's been tarnished, hasn't he? Well, the estate's been tarnished. Yeah, you're right. What do you feel about Michael Jackson? Because I have a Michael Jackson T-shirt that I really like. Like, it's a nice cut on me, the T-shirt, and I wear it under jerseys because I like the feel of the T-shirt, but I'm too afraid to take a jersey off and just go full Michael Jackson.
Starting point is 00:01:26 Well, yeah, as a t-shirt, you know, like listening to Michael Jackson music, but one thing to wear is, you know, is one thing, you know, and some people might be, but the t-shirt is another, you know, like. Yeah. That's really advertising. Yeah. I'm backing this guy. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:42 I'm backing. I don't, I don't know. I don't know I watched that doco and it was a hard watch and horrible if that was the case really just horrible for the case to feel but then at the same time I hear the arguments
Starting point is 00:01:56 of going well why wasn't this more of a and there was to a certain extent there was talk when he was alive but it felt like this was all after his death as well so I don't know okay let me put it this way would you wear a michael jackson t-shirt not now i do remember like um a friend's brother back in the day because michael jackson was huge i went to the concert drove all the way up and he was uh and he was like when i get older i'm gonna get michael jackson the tattoo the eyes from dangerous you
Starting point is 00:02:23 know like they had the eyes. And he was like, I'm going to get that tattoo when his friend's brother was old enough. I always wonder to this day, I'm like, did they ever get that tattoo? But then, oh, you could probably turn those eyes into something else. You don't really want Michael Jackson's creepy eyes. Dangerous eyes. Dangerous eyes. But he was a big fan, like posters everywhere, you know.
Starting point is 00:02:47 He was probably, you know, you take that aside, would you say the most talented musical artist the world's ever been graced with? You probably would have to. Maybe up there. In terms of impact. The Beatles and stuff off the top of my head would be another one as well as far as impact and stuff goes. Nowadays you've got Taylor Swift, Terry Styles and stuff, Ed Sheeran. I'd say probably as a solo artist, you'd probably have to go Jacko.
Starting point is 00:03:14 But I don't know if that's just me being an old man going – Because it's from an era that you grew up in. Yeah. Like if you're around with Beatles mania or something like that. And I'm sure Poppy, my daughter, she'd be like Harry Styles hard out all day. It's hard to know if you can separate the person from the art. That's another debate for a more sensible podcast. What do you mean by that, sorry? Well, that you can go, I can judge a person
Starting point is 00:03:36 and then also judge the other separately. Can you judge, can you go, oh, they were a great performer, but there's a lot of us, can you, it's all that. Well, I mean, and that, so if they were a great performer, but there's a lot of us. Can you, you know, it's all that. Well, I mean, if we're using that argument, then I can wear my Michael Jackson T-shirt. I'm supporting the artist. I'm not supporting what was going on behind the gates of Neverland.
Starting point is 00:03:56 Nothing was, yeah, yeah. Who knows, though? You're right. I mean, yeah. I remember going to, I think it was Japan, and there was a store. Full. Michael Jackson, everything. And, like, there was a store full of Michael Jackson everything. And, like, everything in the store was all Michael Jackson stuff.
Starting point is 00:04:09 Nothing else. And this was not long after the docker. I'm like, was this? This is, you know, like, you know, yeah, it was all, everything was Michael Jackson. Well, I mean, once you nailed your foot to the floor in a Michael Jackson everything store. Yeah. You can't go back on it. I was like, oh, is everything here?
Starting point is 00:04:23 You reckon the close friend or family member's like, yeah, sure. You sure you want to go all in on Jackson? I don't know. I don't know. Who knows?
Starting point is 00:04:29 Who knows? Yeah, we've got a situation where a very young family member is a huge Michael Jackson fan. Like, probably,
Starting point is 00:04:37 music just loves every Michael Jackson song. Hasn't got to the stage where we've broken the news to this. Right. Not over the age for us to deliver the news So I don't
Starting point is 00:04:47 When do we break that news Well just to say Hey there was There was accusations But I don't know If there's anything That was ever You know
Starting point is 00:04:54 By the way You can have this t-shirt Because my mate Ben Has put me Maybe all self-conscious about it We can sell it to that store If I Yeah
Starting point is 00:05:01 They're still all in on Jackson Yeah Anyway this isn't A Michael Jackson podcast. This is our burner phone. And you can leave us a message. You can text 4487. It'll bounce back a cell phone number.
Starting point is 00:05:10 Call us up and leave a message like this legend. Received today at 10.13 a.m. Hi, Jono and Ben. So I've recently been getting into yoga. And I was wondering, have you guys ever done yoga? I'm sure there's some pretty good stories there. I've never done yoga. My wife does it from time to time
Starting point is 00:05:30 and enjoys it. I think it's one of those things that looks like surfing, kite surfing, skimboarding we were talking about the other day, skateboarding on ramps. They make it look easy but I think it's quite hard. It's very painful yoga. I think so. People get very sore muscles
Starting point is 00:05:46 The next day from doing it Very you know Like yeah I think Producer Joel did hot yoga The other day Oh well let's get Let's get Producer Joel
Starting point is 00:05:53 Joel Come in here mate So that's with the temperature Up above 30 degrees Yeah you did hot yoga The other day didn't you With your partner Grace Yeah one of the worst things
Starting point is 00:06:02 I've ever done as well To be honest It was quite Well as far as, it was like, you get in the room, you sit in a dark room, you get there 30 minutes before
Starting point is 00:06:10 the already 90 minute long thing. So you're in a room which is above 40 degrees Celsius. Oh, it's about 40? For two hours. So it's like you're working out in Greece or Italy at the moment. But then I guess you're like,
Starting point is 00:06:20 kind of the sauna effect. You're probably perspiring all the toxins and stuff from your body. So it's probably really good for you, right? Like on the coldest winter mornings, I'm sweating. I've sweaty hands at the moment. And then I was in there lying down, perforating sweat.
Starting point is 00:06:34 It was disgusting. It's just dripping off you. Once you start working out, it was like it was too much. It was way too much. And I feel like I was definitely the least flexible person out of the 30 by a long shot as well. You must come out shriveled up like a blooming raisin. All the moisture and liquid in your body would disappear, right? It'd be good for you though.
Starting point is 00:06:54 That's the sauna thing. It's got to be good. It must be good for you to some capacity, but it is intense. There were people in there, mainly females, who were really good, really flexible. was like so easy for them but i don't know how it was quite intimidating also when i got there the instructor's like oh you apparently it's your first time what's your name i was like oh joel she's like hey welcome john it was a nice enough it's very hot in there I'm just probably not thinking and what was the ratio were you the only
Starting point is 00:07:28 there was like 4 or 5 out of 30 guys there and they were all like they were all very confident with themselves as well they were wearing very short shorts
Starting point is 00:07:37 no t-shirt and I persisted for most of it to try and keep the shirt on I was like I've got nothing compared to these guys
Starting point is 00:07:44 and then it was just so hot like I had to take my shirt off the shirt on. I was like, I've got nothing compared to these guys. And then it was just so hot, like I had to take my shirt off. My major concern if I was in that environment is when I'm downward dogging or I'm stretching legs or whatever I'm doing, that everything, your bits are all on display to the person behind you who's got their face right in where you're having to be. Is it quite close quarters? It is quite close quarters, yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:04 And everyone's just so hot, right. Right, and we were having to be. It was quite close quarters. It is quite close quarters, yeah. And everyone's just so hot, sweaty. I don't know. I wouldn't recommend it as a date, but I reckon it's a date. Yeah. Pick him out. Where are you going? Hot yoga, mate. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:17 And so is it one and done for you? Are you going back? It is one and done, yeah. It's quite funny because there were lovely people down. They were in Auckland as well, in central Auckland. And I gave my details. And I had about 10 calls from them saying, hey, we saw you come. Hey, John.
Starting point is 00:08:31 John, come back, John. We missed you. Would you be keen to come back? And I was like, oh, yeah. And then the last time, I was like, is there any reason you're avoiding this? I was like, it's not for me. I probably will never do it. I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:08:42 And to be fair to you as well, your social sports roster is jam-packed. What are we playing? We're playing social netball. Yeah. Social rugby league. It's Monday nights. It looks like you had league practice after netball. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:55 You've got rugby league game on Wednesday night. Yeah, I've got basketball Wednesday, basketball Thursday. Two teams now. And then AFL training and then AFL games. And then touch coming up in summer as well. Yeah, so you're probably, fitting hot yoga in for you is probably pretty tough. Yeah, also with
Starting point is 00:09:12 a strenuous drinking schedule as well. So yeah, it's tough. That on top as well. But I reckon you guys should one day go down and do a hot yoga class. Yeah, I'm keen to give it a go and just experience and see what it's like. Yeah, because I definitely went in with a negative attitude
Starting point is 00:09:26 and I was like, oh, and then afterwards I was like, I'm sure I probably lost about two kgs from doing it. But yeah. Who was the bloody pesty guy?
Starting point is 00:09:34 Bikram. Was it Bikram? I don't know. There was some yoga instructor and it was all a bit odd. Oh, really? Yeah. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:09:42 I don't know, sorry. The yoga instructor I had, this is another thing as Yeah. I don't know. I don't know, sorry. The yoga instructor I had, this was another thing as well. I thought yoga would be a real calming exercise, but she was honestly running like a real estate auctioneer, like that tempo, almost like horse racing commentary tempo. So come on, you've got to do it,
Starting point is 00:09:57 like it's your pub class. Yeah, move your head forward, move your head forward, move your head forward, keep going, keep going forward, keep going forward, lean back, lean back, lean back, stop. Right, so she, yeah. Next one, on your back, on your back, on your back, on your back, keep going forward Lean back, lean back, lean back, stop Right, so she, yeah Next one, on your back, on your back, on your back Keep moving forward, keep moving forward Head forward, head forward, stop
Starting point is 00:10:11 Wasn't relaxing, but hey Let's try it Bikram Chaudhry, yeah, all sorts of stuff Going on with Bikram, maybe I want to deep dive that On the internet, that's not what this podcast is about No, it feels like it is today But it's not normally so podcast is about.
