The Hits with Jono and Ben's Burner Phone Now, outside at the moment, a lot of action.
Yeah, heaps going on.
Press conference outside for Miyamoto's world title boxing fight.
What they do outside the studio, there's a bit of an area in the building called the iHeart Lounge.
Yeah.
This is on iHeart Radio right now.
Do you know how successful iHeart Radio is?
Well, they've got their own lounge.
They have got their own wonderful lounge and we can see our
studio looks out into a foyer through
some big windows, a big
foyer area and we can see through into the lounge
through some glass sort of doors and windows
through there. And you're right, there's a lot going on.
There's like a photo wall,
there's a boxing ring that somehow got
set up in the time that we were
gone from yesterday and the time we're back today.
Like a full ring.
All the media are there.
I keep, it keeps, there's lights keep flashing from the photographs they keep taking.
I keep thinking it's like thunder and lightning every time I'm looking down and I was like,
oh, what's that?
It's a flash.
And you're like, oh no, it's just photos going off.
Yeah, it's a lot going on.
And also you could say, well, we're inside.
Yeah.
So the thunder wouldn't be inside.
True.
But you know how sometimes you're at home and you hear,
you see the things kind of from outside the window, but you're right.
Yeah, there's no way.
I can't actually see outside at the moment.
So they're about to have a press conference outside,
a boxing press conference, and a lot of good trash talking,
usually in press conferences, aren't there, in the boxing?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Let's go toe-for-toe trash talking, okay?
We're having a fight. Okay. Yeah. Let's go toe for toe trash talking, okay? We're having a fight.
Okay.
Mate,
look at you.
Yeah, see,
this is the thing.
I'd probably laugh
after each thing.
I'm not a great
trash talker.
You're trying to hold
the laugh again.
You know,
because they get right up
into each other's faces,
don't they?
And they'll be like,
yeah, I'm going to smash you
and stuff.
Say it with more confidence.
Yeah, well, no, I'm not.
I don't have the confidence. Oh, I just spilled my coffee.'s my trash talk oh anyone got a cloth you know i see i did actually spilled something in the studio but you're also
assuming the role of the boxer who's trash talking yeah is there a cloth out there yeah
because i want to wipe the floor with you that's why i need a cloth that's it would that be good
yeah that's nice plus i also spilled some spilt some coffee, so it'll be quite useful. Yeah, I'm going to be like, I'm going to eat you.
Okay.
Yeah, all right.
Sauté, how would you?
How would I eat you?
I reckon a slow cooker roast, just so the meat falls off the bones there.
I don't have a lot of meat on my bones.
Maybe if I was in this fictitious boxing world, maybe I'd be a bit bigger to do it.
But yeah, I admire the people that get in the ring.
I really, really do.
I think it's just incredible.
They put themselves out there.
At any stage, they could get knocked out.
A lot of the professionals, that's how boxing works.
A lot of the professionals, they enjoy it though, don't they?
We spoke to Miyamoto and she's like, I love it.
That's the most calm I feel is when I'm inside that ring,
getting punched in the face.
So I could, yeah, anyone else would be like,
that's the furthest away from being calm.
You know, like, I, if I'm in that ring, would not be calm.
I suppose the more you did it, though,
the more you'd be relaxed with your feelings heading into fighting,
your feelings in the ring and post
you know because you i imagine a lot of is the unexpected it's like someone coming on here right
now jumping on here right now and taking over the podcast ben high pressure high pressure since you're
we're relaxed you're right yeah this is like this is what me this is how many years in the boxing
ring we're here just
Filling
I suppose in some ways
It's relative to what you're doing
If you went to someone
Hey come in here
And host a 10 minute podcast
A critically acclaimed
Award winning podcast
And they'd say
Well where's Joe Rogan
Yeah
Okay well a couple tears down
Host our podcast
Yeah
Then it's a lot
You know
It's just the unknown
Stuff you're not used to doing
That's what makes you scared Yeah Anyway speaking of which Well it's a lot you know it's just the unknown stuff you're not used to doing that's what makes you scared yeah um anyway speaking of which well that's a shocking segue
because i don't know if it's speaking of which but here is today's message so there is no money
in my bank account i'm at zero and there's there there are fees and it goes to a minus 45.
What is the principle behind this?
Can someone tell me what is the principle behind it?
When you have no money, the banks, it takes more money out of your pocket and you're now in the need.
Can there be any other way?
A credit, a point of honor system?
I don't know.
So if there's any banker out there,
someone that could explain to me this nonsense,
thank you.
Aston McConnell, keep it up.
Nice work.
Let's go, man.
Nice, nice, nice.
Do love the nice, nice, nice.
So there's an interesting question.
I have that as well.
Unarranged overdraft fees.
Right.
So you go into the negatives and then they take... But you'll still be able to spend money.
It's kind of like this overdraft that I haven't signed up for.
Well, the bank said, well, we haven't signed up for this.
We're just out of the goodness of our heart.
We're giving you that money.
Guess what?
It's never out of the goodness of their heart.
The kind bank operatives around the country, you know?
Yeah.
Struggling banks around their life.
Struggling.
They're like, you know what?
We're going to lend you some money.
Yeah.
But we're going to take a little bit back
Just because
Just because
That's the price of generosity
Yeah
Isn't it?
That's a very interesting
Yeah, I think I've got like a hundred bucks
I can really push it out to the limit
So what are you thinking there?
They're not doing it for
Like you say, the kindness of their hearts
They're doing it because
You're clearly on zero dollars
You're in a bit of financial strife
Yeah And you're still trying to get money out
They're like yeah okay
You can have a bit of what you need
Oh right and then they take a bit of fee
Oh the interest fee
It happens all the time
Jen my wife's like you're in unarranged overdraft fee again
I'm like I'm sorry I won't do it again
She's like you will
And I'm like I probably will
Right
Yeah you're right
So they could just have a cut off
And just go I want a zero zero
I mean eventually they do right
They get to a point
Where they go
Okay
You better not
You're probably not
Going to pay us back
Yeah
I mean it got to
When I first started in radio
I was like
So I think I had like a
I actually did have
An arranged one
You can get arranged ones
Maybe they're trying to
Encourage you to arrange
An overdraft
Yeah they're like
You're so shocking with your money Why don't you Arrange one with us Yeah I did have an arranged one. You can get arranged ones. Maybe they're trying to encourage you to arrange an overdraft. Yeah, they're like, you're so shocking with your money.
Why don't you...
Arrange one with us.
Yeah.
I did have an arranged one, and I would go into...
I never got past zero.
So I'd always be in negative dollars.
You'd get paid, but you might get past...
And it didn't get to zero.
Yeah.
And then I'd just end back in negative, and I was like, jeez, it's shocking.
I'm shocking with money.
I really am.
You? Yeah, I'm not... just end back in negative and i was like jesus shocking i'm shocking with money i really am you
yeah i'm not i wouldn't say shocking but it's yeah it's it's something to try and get your
head around it it's kind of i always feel like i could be better with it yeah but there's more
when you talk to people who i'm probably not confident enough which surprises
no one would be surprised yeah anyway but a lot of people like you know they probably
lose a lot of money but the same time they but a lot of people, like, you know, they probably lose a lot of money, but at the same time,
they make a lot of money.
I mean, they're promoters of this fight,
probably investing a lot in this, you know,
the fight we're looking out towards.
And they're hoping they sell tickets and pay for views.
You know, again, it takes a lot of guts to do all that.
And some people make a lot of money,
but you probably don't hear about the losses as much as you do the big wins.
You just go, oh, man, I need to invest more.
But it's having that confidence to do that.
It's pretty impressive, the people that do that. Yeah, I've to invest more but it's having that confidence to do that it's pretty impressive
the people that do that
I've got a friend like that
he's high risk
high risk
high reward
doesn't care
he's like
it's only money
you can earn it again
I mean that's a great way
but I don't think of it like that
when I first started
on radio too
you'd get paid
and you'd go out
party
have an absolute
blinder of a week
like a great
fantastic weekend then it was gone for two
then you had nothing for two weeks yeah yeah why was i buying jaeger at three in the morning
well i didn't need that jaeger meister and you know the nine people i was with i didn't have
to shout them jaeger meister at night and stupid decisions i know and i look back at yeah the
student times as well because you could clock up things
On your
Obviously student loan
I had a big one
But then also
There was student announcers
And there was another little thing
You ring up
You didn't have to talk to a real person
You just had to enter
And enter a little amount
You're like
Oh weekend coming up
I can enter it in there
Draw down some money
I think you could do that once
And again the government's like
Hey enjoy that buddy
Yeah
It's like
Oh jeez
I need a DVD player and a couch
Or just you know Get a And you know get a – and then later you're like,
well, I have to pay that back eventually.
You don't think about that at the time.
No, you don't.
You're like, oh, this is great.
I've just managed to get this.
Course-related costs or whatever it was.
I remember I've told you this before.
I got home from a night out, and I'd forgotten I'd ordered a credit card,
my first credit card, about 19, 20 years old.
And I got home
And mum's like, oh there's some mail for you
In the letterbox, I was like, oh it's a credit card
So I phoned
All of my friends, I was like, let's go down
To Wings
Was the name of the bar, on a Sunday
Was Wings still around?
No, Wings are RIP Wings
And boy
Every last stop, I maxed out the credit card
In one day
Oh really
Shouting everyone
Shouting everyone
And
I'm still paying off
That credit card
Yeah
A thousand bucks
It was
That day's gone
That's a good effort though
Back in the day
Then too
Would have been a lot of
You know
Bloody drinks
Wouldn't it
It was fantastic
Lunch
I was like
What do you want
Calamari
Calamari
What an idiot What an absolute idiot But then You know bloody drinks wouldn't it it was fantastic lunch I was like what do you want calamari calamari hell of a it's all on me
what an idiot
what an absolute idiot
oh no but then
you know
I mean yes
yes
but then life is
you know
short
and you know
I wouldn't have a story to tell
exactly
you know if you just went
I got a credit card
and I was very sensible with it
and never went into overdraft
you know
so yeah
wings
the staff at wings
wouldn't have got paid
no
you're right supporting hard working businessworking business people, you know?
