The Hits with Jono and Ben's Burner Phone
Back again for another episode of the Burner Phone
Shout out to Annie Pryor who is a prolific listener
My mother of the Burner Phone
Yeah, no, she's doing well
I don't know how many episodes she's listened to
But I'm pretty sure she goes daily
Goes daily on it as well, yeah
So thank you to all of the loyal listeners To the Burner Phone
She's a big fan of
Is it National Radio?
RNZ yeah
Oh Radio
Yeah
Yeah
It used to be called National Radio
Yeah
It was Radio New Zealand
So yeah
RNZ they had a rebrand
But it's like people still call
Newstalk ZB
1ZB
Yeah 1ZB
Yeah it's going to take a few years
For that audience to click on
To the fact
Hey Countdown Food Town It'll You know Woolworths Whatever it is You know It's going to take a few years for that audience to click on Countdown Foodtown
Woolworths whatever it is
An arena changes name
Like Mount Smart to Go Media Stadium
From Vector Arena to Spark Arena
You sort of get the
It takes a while for people to embrace it
And then afterwards if the sponsorship changes
People will still continue to call it that for a while
Just to get used to it
Yeah you've got the flow on effect
Because I imagine if you want to sign up to a partnership
or a sponsorship of something like that,
you're going to have to be in for at least 10 years for it to sink in
because you've got to wash out the previous one.
That's 24 months.
Then you enjoy six to eight years of wonderful branding
and then you pass that burden on to the next sponsor
who has to deal with the 24 months of confusion
But yeah
We are in the middle
Did you manage to track her down Taylor?
Have we got her number have you?
We're just trying to track down
A lovely lady who for the last two days
Has left us messages
Yo yo yo
Bono and Jono and Ben
Sorry
I'm just cooking some mussels up
A nice saffron cream sauce
Anywho
When you do call me
Make sure you say
Yo, who dis?
And I'll say of course
Who dat?
So that's what we need to do
We've enjoyed the last two days of messages
That have been left by this person.
Remember, we've got to say, yo, who dis?
Oh, yeah.
Sounds like an absolute character.
Who the fuck is this
constantly harassing my phone?
Oh, hello. It's just Jono and Ben
Oh fuck
Oh my god I am so sorry
I was like jeez how are we supposed to be around
This never just won't stop
Good morning
I'm sorry I woke up on the wrong side of the bed again.
I'm so sorry.
Don't be sorry.
Jono tried multiple times.
He tried you from the normal line, then the hot line,
and then from another line.
So I'll try one more time.
And he pushed it too far, didn't he?
It's all me, Tanya.
Good morning. I'm so sorry. don't be sorry don't apologize it's made our day it's been great that was the best the best i think the best
phone answer of you oh my god hey well tanya lovely to finally treat you have you interrupted
you mid-sleep have you just woken up no? No, no, no. I was already awake.
We've just immensely enjoyed your friendly messages over the last two days.
Oh, thank you.
A real juxtaposition from what we just got in.
I'm a funny girl, you know.
So you live in New Plymouth.
I just want to know, how are the saffron mussels?
Oh, the saffron mussels are delicious.ffron muscles are delicious yeah oh my god really really good now it's an easy recipe
i detect uh okay i'm gonna go out on a limb here are we talking canadian yes
how long did you not get that from the opening of the phone call
i was led to believe you were a friendly bunch.
We are, really, but I don't know, maybe I'm a clever guy.
No, I'm just kidding.
But how long have you been in New Zealand?
13 years.
Oh, wow.
So the accent is still running strong as well.
But mind you, when you go back to Canada, they're probably like,
mate, you sound like a Kiwi.
They do, actually.
And for me, I'm from Ontario.
So out west, you have an accent, like out in Calgary and all that.
And if you go out towards PEI to the east coast,
I mean, you can't even understand the new fees.
And whenever I go home, now it sounds like my friends sound American.
Really?
With the true, like, drawl and over-accentuate all their words and everything.
And everybody, you know, would always say to me,
you sound like you're, I don't believe it or not,
but they would usually say, like, my tone is really super soft these days.
Yeah, right.
Not that you would notice that this morning.
Yeah, that's, now you, because we were talking about this before, Invercargill in New Zealand, they've got a whole other different.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, so what brought you to New Zealand, Tanya?
I came with a boyfriend at the time.
He's back in Canada.
I decided to stay.
Oh, right.
So he went back to Canada.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And have you obviously enjoyed New Zealand?
Yes, I do, actually.
Like, going back to Toronto, everything's so changed.
And it's just, I don't know.
I'm just like Nah
Nah Stan
Why'd you end up
In New Plymouth
Because he was a surfer
And he worked
For oil and gas
Ah
Right
And there's obviously
Good surf along the coast there
Yeah there is
There is some good surf
Yeah
Yeah oh that's really interesting
Well it's lovely
To meet you Tanya
Yes
Thank you Do you know what Don't apologise some good surf, yeah. Yeah, oh, that's really interesting. Well, it's lovely to meet you, Tanya. Yes, thank you.
