The Hits with Jono and Ben's Burner Phone
Bought you in association with Louis Vuitton
Louis Vuitton
You can't just say, I don't think you can
Oh maybe you can, I don't know
Maybe you just keep saying it and they might come on board
Well that's the idea, what do they say?
Big clients attract big clients, Ben
Don't they say that in the sales game?
If we start saying we're associated with the likes of Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Tattinger.
Tattinger's like a drink.
Yeah.
You know, you do that, people are like, oh, jeez,
I've got to get on board with those guys.
They're high class.
Yeah, but also pushes us way out of our league into a whole other,
you know.
We're less touched with the common person, don't we?
Yeah.
What is our league?
Well, I definitely don't think, you know, I don't think it's Ferrari.
Our league's Pakensei Palmerston North.
It really is.
It's not even a joke.
No, that's our sweet spot.
Going to Pakensei Palmerston North, we feel like kings.
Now, this is the Burner phone where we clear a message every day.
You can leave us a message.
There's still a few more in there to get to, but if you want to leave us a message, just
text BURNER to 4487.
We'll fire you back the number and then just give us a call.
Leave a message and we'd like to clear one a day.
Received yesterday
at 8.21pm.
G'day, John Owen Ben.
Andre van Dijk here from
Christchurch. I met you guys
I think it was October
last year when you were promoting your chips,
your space chips. I met
you at Newhall Durham Street here
and told you about
my ambition to try and promote a federation around New Zealand. I met you at New Old Durham Street here and told you about my mission
to try and promote refrigeration around New Zealand.
Hashtag promotefridgeNZ.
Have a look at it and get back to me, please.
I would love to be on your show or find me some traction for this year.
World Refrigeration Day is on the 26th of June,
but I'm starting early to hopefully try and get to the arena something.
So, yeah.
There we go.
Andre.
I remember Andre, yeah.
Speaking of Pack and Save Palmerston North,
this is when we were touring around supermarkets with our chips,
our people, Ben, that's our level.
We met Andre, and he's very passionate about refrigeration.
Well, as you would be, I guess, if that's what you work in,
that's what you do. You'd know a lot about that sort of thing. Well, I you would be, I guess, if that's what you work in. That's what you do.
You'd know a lot about that sort of thing.
Well, I always find that with radio, too.
People in radio, hey, hand up.
I'll put my hand up, and I'm guilty of it.
We're so passionate about radio that you think everyone else in the world
gives a shit about radio.
No one does.
No.
Radio is down the priority list of everyone's life.
Not even in the top 50 of most people's.
It's something they get in their car.
And even when you're on, they're like, oh,
half listened to something that someone was saying about that.
You know, they're not hanging on every word.
I'm sorry, John.
I'm sorry.
I know.
And you know, when you're passionate about an industry,
that's your jam.
And other people, I won't lie, World Refrigeration Day,
not high on my priority list.
No.
The fridge works.
The only time it becomes an issue for me
is when it breaks down.
You know,
I don't think about it apart from that.
But it's obviously a big thing for Andre.
Yeah, well,
should we try and get Andre's number
and give him a call,
give him a call back?
Hell,
what's your favourite thing in your fridge
while I'm dialling Andre?
Favourite thing in my fridge?
Yeah.
What do you mean?
Like as far as?
Content.
I like what I would go to most out of the fridge.
Well, I don't know.
I mean, probably something like the milk.
The milk would be the thing I'd probably go to most out of the fridge and stuff.
But, you know, cheese.
I love cheese.
Oh, your cheese is good.
I'd say I've got a vast, vast supply of condiments sitting in my fridge.
So many sauces, mayonnaises, syrups, just, you know, love them.
Yeah.
Probably the favourite thing in my fridge.
Also the Heinekens.
Yeah, I was going to say, there's probably a lot of Heinekens sitting in your fridge.
I've got a back for, you know how you've got a shitty fridge out the back?
I've got one of those.
Hey, Richard Andre from Eco Chill.
Sorry, I'm unavailable right now.
So do we leave Andre a voicemail after he leaves us a voicemail? Oh, and then send me calls us back for've got one of those. I reached Andre from Eco Chill. Sorry, I'm unavailable right now. So do we leave Andre a voicemail after
he leaves us a voicemail? Oh, let's see if he calls us back for tomorrow's
Burner Phone.
I'll leave a message and I'll get back
to you as soon as I can. Thanks. Have a good day.
Andre, it's Jono and Ben here from
the Hits Radio Station and also the Burner
Phone podcast. We're in the middle of the podcast
We cleared our message
We got your message
We remember meeting you
When we were travelling around the country
On our chip tour
And we wanted to talk to you more
On the Burner Phone about
World Refrigeration Day
Yeah and fridges
26th of June
Big questions we want to throw you
Like eggs, fridge or pantry
All those sorts of things
We thought you'd be able to answer
Yeah that's a good question
Where do you get your avocados?
Are you out and about or are they inside the fridge?
To be honest, a bit of both.
But we can, Andre, you're probably getting this on your message as well.
I probably start off with it there and then bring them out.
I find that sometimes when I leave the fruit out for too long,
it just goes.
The fridge, Andre would know about this, just keeps it fresher for longer.
Yeah, I'm on the worldrefrigerationday.org website.
World Refrigeration Day is a great opportunity for all of us to celebrate the tremendous contribution
that refrigeration and air conditioning makes to our society.
Yeah, great.
This includes enabling our agricultural and food.
It does wonderful things, and we need to give it a platform.
This is the platform.
Andre, call us back, babes.
Hey, think about that Heineken that you want.
No one wants warm Heineken.
No one.
No.
So there you go.
Think about that, you know.
It really upsets me when I'm drinking warm Heineken.
Anyway, Andre, we've been on your voicemail long enough.
Give us a call back for tomorrow's episode of the Burner Phone.
We'd love to learn more, babe, about World Refrigeration Day.
Okay, I've got three interesting facts for you.
This popped up when I Googled refrigerator.
And so there's nearly 100% of Americans have a refrigerator.
Now, you would imagine.
No, no.
Oh, it's the homeless.
No, we've been to nearly 100%.
Yeah, you're right.
There are so many homeless people there.
I would say nearly 100% of households would have a refrigerator.
Maybe that's the, yeah.
Albert Einstein's the co-inventor of the refrigerator.
I didn't know that.
I didn't know that either.
He did some wild shit back in the day, Einstein, didn't he?
Didn't look after his grooming.
He let get away on him towards the end.
Wasn't he only sleeping like four hours a night or something like that?
Because he's like, sleeping's just like, it's taking up time
that I, I hear you.
It's unnecessarily taking up time.
You're the Einstein of our generation.
I definitely not.
I'm not doing anything important though when I'm awake,
whereas he's doing a lot of important things. I'm doing
radio. I mean, as you said before, no one gives
a crap about that. No one does. It's fun.
Don't get me wrong. It's the most enjoyable job in the
world. And both of us couldn't be,
we just love this job.
But no one gives a shit about it.
No, you're right.
Have you ever done the,
back in the day,
is your refrigerator running prank?
Yeah.
Oh.
Remember that?
Should we try and do it on any prior?
Where you bring up someone,
you're like,
oh, hi, is your refrigerator running?
And then they go,
yeah, or they go,
why don't you go catch it?
I haven't done that.
I haven't done the fridge running.
Never done it.
And, you know, illustrious prank calling career.
It's not a good one.
It's not a good.
I wouldn't say my prank calling career is illustrious.
I've just done some, many in the past.
It's a pretty low level thing.
Excuse me, is your fridge running?
Or you better go catch it, right?
That's the premise there.
It's putting a smile on my face, though.
Even you just say, should we call Jenny Boyce your mum?
She's your mum.
Okay, she probably won't appreciate it.
Oh, no, she should appreciate the call.
But not the comedy.
Now, Jenny is based in Russell, North, where the weather is...
It's been, yeah, really rough.
Well, it turns out it's about to get rougher right now.
Okay, I'll leave it to you.
Put on a character.
Or do you want me to do it?
You can do it.
You can do it.
Okay.
I'm nervous.
Hello?
Hi, is that Jenny?
Yes.
Hi, Jenny.
Grant Walters here.
Yes.
We're just doing a community check on refrigerations.
Refrigerations?
Are you the owner, operator of a refrigeration system?
Okay, what's the catch?
We're just phoning, it's just a courtesy call to see if your fridge is running, just to check.
Is that right?
I've got a sunny
place paint for me, so I always
have to be very careful when I answer the phone.
Could you just answer the question, is your fridge running?
Yes, it is.
Well, you better go and catch it.
Killed it.
It killed it.
It wasn't great.
It was John O'Ford who got a a silly voice there we're just talking about the
terrible gag that people would make as a kid bring up and it's a i mean it got it got a good
result it got a good i don't know if it's a pity laugh yeah i know mom's quite good at laughing
at stuff so nice nice to talk to you now speaking of fridges i mean you uh you're someone that the
fridge is always jam-packed jam jam-packed full of stuff.
For days and days, you push stuff.
Like for ham from two Christmases ago is probably still in there.
No, but probably the cake crumbs.
The cake crumbs.
Oh, yeah, she saves cake crumbs.
She saves like broth, fish broth, whatever that is.
It's like there's things in there.
I go there and I'm like, I'm getting rid of half the stuff.
But, yeah, she keeps it all.
When do you eat the cake crumbs, Jenny?
Well, you could sprinkle them on ice cream for a dessert.
Oh, sprinkle them on ice cream.
She's always got an idea for it.
And then the other thing as well, there's some things,
like your fridge jam pack, but there's other things you're like,
well, that doesn't need to be in the fridge because that's got preservatives.
So you'll keep stuff out of the fridge, like jams and other things.
I'm like, why are these not in the fridge? You're like, oh, they'll keep your stuff out of the fridge, like jams and other things. I'm like, why are these not in the fridge?
You're like, oh, they'll last for ages out of the fridge.
Yeah, well, they do.
They do.
I have to give you a tip
because with all these power shortages and things,
you've heard about when you put a cup of water in your fridge,
sorry, in your freezer, freeze it,
then stick a coin on top of the frozen ice that you've got made and put it back in the freezer.
Now, if you've got a power cut, then you can check and you're worried about your freezer
has defrosted, maybe been away or something like that.
Yeah.
Well, you can go and look at that cup and if the coin has dropped inside the cup,
you know, you're screwed.
Get rid of the freezer.
Get rid of the freezer.
That is actually a really good tip, Jeannie.
That's actually a really good hack.
She's better living with Jeannie.
I don't know that one.
All right, a couple.
Yeah, all right.
Okay, good to know.
Thank you for making my day fun.
Oh, there we go.
It was lovely, lovely to hear from you,
and thank you for being pranked.
I hope to.
Love you guys.
See you, Jenny.
Love you, man.
Bye.
Bye.
That's a bloody good tip there from Jenny.
That's actually quite handy.
Because you do wonder when you're away
what has happened to your fridge, you know,
if there have been power cuts and stuff.
You do.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And you like the coin.
But then if you came around to my house
and you're like, I've got some ice,
help yourself,
and you open it up
and you're like,
why has he got a cup
with a coin?
You're like,
well,
let me tell you,
my friend.
Hey,
well,
that was the Burnaphone
for today.
Hopefully,
we'll have a follow-up
with Andre
about World Refrigeration Day.
Until then,
thank you for listening.
