Starting point is 00:00:00 The Hits with Jono and Ben's Burner Phone of the champagne auction winner because we've been doing this job for a while now and sometimes people around the office will go, oh hey, my child's primary school, they're having a fundraiser, can we auction off someone coming into the studio for an hour or so to hang out. If someone wants to do that that's fine. Probably someone doesn't need to pay to do that but hopefully the money goes to
Starting point is 00:00:39 a good cause. And we're always like, radio is honestly the most boring thing to watch being made. It really is. It's just two people in a room. Sometimes you're editing stuff, you know, getting interviews were recorded earlier to play and things like that, you know, so it's just kind of like, yeah. Yeah, and so we feel it's not an exhilarating, it's not like you're going to watch a concert
Starting point is 00:01:00 or anything. No, no. Is it? And we have the three winners from the auction in the studio. Introduce yourselves, boys. I'm Jacob. Franklin. And I'm Archie.
Starting point is 00:01:10 Jacob, Franklin, and Archie. Now, you guys didn't win the auction. This is the interesting part. Someone else did, and now you've been handed this. Jacob, it was your mum who won the auction? Yeah, it was. She got very excited at the auction. She bid, which is great money towards the score.
Starting point is 00:01:24 Yeah, which is great. And then, so, she's put the burden on you to have to turn got very excited at the auction. She bid, which is great money towards the school. Yeah, right? Yeah, which is great. And then so she's put the burden on you to have to turn up first thing in the morning. She has, yeah. On a day off, too, from school, too. You're getting up early and coming in. Yeah. How would you rate the experience of watching radio be, mate?
Starting point is 00:01:38 Oh, honestly, it's 10 out of 10. 10 out of 10. Oh, you guys are too kind. Because you've been there for an hour. We tried to smoke screen you with some bacon baps. Yeah. Some hot chocolates. Did they go down well? They were done pretty good. Oh, good guys are too kind. Because you've been there for an hour. We tried to smoke screen you with some bacon baps. Yeah. Some hot chocolates. Did they go down well?
Starting point is 00:01:48 They were done pretty good. Oh, good, good. Now, should I ask, how much did Mum pay for the auction? $400. What did she? $400 bucks! Wow! She's not like we should be paying her, you know, some of that money back.
Starting point is 00:02:00 Wow! Well, it feels like we haven't given you enough of an experience for $400. What else do you want for 400 no it was a good burger but it wasn't 400 worth she's been give them your buddy's cell phone or something i don't know so what what was your reaction be honest there's no hurt feelings here from us shocked when you came home and you went yeah you guess what you're going to she comes home and she's like she's like comes into my room and she's like very intoxicated this time you'll be you'll be going on the john o'bent show with some of your friends and she's like, she's like, comes into my room and she's like very intoxicated.
Starting point is 00:02:28 You'll be going on the John O'Benn show with some of your friends. And I'm like, what? She's like, go to bed, mum. Yeah, yeah. And she told me that, you know, like, because it's like all the, it's for the primary school. So you've got like all the parents with like their new kids who are like really young. And like, it's meant to be for like a primary school kid and a friend and a parent. The three people. And then, you know, the parents are going like 50 60 she's going like 100 200 and she's better all the way up to 400 wow and then she in the morning she asked she's like by the way i don't
Starting point is 00:02:56 have a primary school and a friend coming from a school kid and a friend coming i've got three 16 year old boys it doesn't feel like you guys, you're in the age where you want to sleep in. Getting out of bed this morning was a challenge. Has it all been worth it? No, clearly not. It's been something. That bacon buddy though.
Starting point is 00:03:18 That was worth it. It's a lovely thing for the school, for the primary school, isn't it? It's a nice thing your mum did. Nothing, there's nothing we had to do. We hosted something for Starship, the school, for the primary school, isn't it? It's a nice thing your mum did. Nothing, there's nothing we had to do with it. We hosted something for Starship, the hospital, and they were auctioning off athletes to join tables
Starting point is 00:03:30 for this quiz that they were doing. And you wouldn't get a more awkward environment having someone stand on stage and watch to see how much people are willing to pay for them. Well, imagine if we were there at the auction. They were auctioning on us for a radio thing. You'd be like, oh, God. But $400, I'm pumped for that.
Starting point is 00:03:45 These were, you know, Sarah Walkers, Eric Murray. These are Olympic gold medal winning athletes. Sarah Walker was like, I feel like I'm a prostitute up here. She was like, well, we'll fetch your top dollar. And we did. We got two and a half K for Sarah Walker. How much do you reckon you'd pay for a Ben Boyce?
Starting point is 00:03:59 What? Do what? Just general jobs around the house. Good $4. $4? Thank you. I'll take that. I'll take that. It's fine house. Good $4? $4? Thank you. I'll take that. I'll take that.
Starting point is 00:04:06 It's fine. Yeah, $4 is probably a good little fee. $43.57. Yeah. What would you do for $4, Ben? Jobs around the house. You name it. Lots of stuff.
Starting point is 00:04:16 Are we getting a bathroom cleaned? Yeah, I'll probably do a bathroom clean for that. Am I getting a foot massage? Yeah. Foot massage. A little weird, I guess. Maybe I draw the line. Maybe little bit more for that one. We're not offering the price of that.
Starting point is 00:04:31 No, no. There's no price. He's got to massage a 16-year-old boy's feet. Yeah, I don't know. It just seems a bit. Hey, well, boys, it's been a pleasure meeting you all. And what do you want to do? I know this is such an old man question.
Starting point is 00:04:49 When you're older, what are we doing? Because can we take advantage of this is what I'm thinking of in five to ten years for our, you know, are we going to be looking at athletes? Are we looking at scientists? I'm thinking of doing, like, volleyball. Volleyball? Yeah. Great. Where are we doing volleyball?
Starting point is 00:05:08 Might be doing it in the US. Oh, this is big time volleyball. Okay, we'll get your number because you could be a volleyball player in America. Good, how about you guys? Oh, I want to be the next John O'Prior. We won't keep that number. You've got too much hair for that, I'm sorry mate.
Starting point is 00:05:24 You've got too much hair and too much hair for that. I'm sorry, mate. Some harsh things happening to your hair. You've got too much hair and too much talent for that. How about you, Jacob? Probably like Lauren Cobb-ass at this point. Oh, great. See, this is... If you could restart again, Ben, take this out of the equation,
Starting point is 00:05:36 what would you do? What would you do? So this radio's not a... So radio's not a thing? Nah, it's not on your radar. You want to do... I think sports would be cool, but not that I'm good enough to do that.
Starting point is 00:05:46 You're a big cricket guy. Yeah, I do like cricket and stuff. It would be cool to be playing that. Volleyball in the States would be pretty awesome, wouldn't it? What college would you go to in America to do volleyball? I'm not sure at the moment, but just keeping my opportunities open. What a great experience. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:01 That's great. Volleyball's a bloody underrated sport here in New Zealand. Every time the Olympics are on, I'm like, damn, I should watch more volleyball. Yeah, ball's a bloody underrated sport here in New Zealand. Every time the Olympics are on I'm like damn I should watch more volleyball. What's the volleyball teams like here in New Zealand? Are they good? Yeah there's some really good players here. Really like people who can just smash it.
Starting point is 00:06:17 Was that the YMCA last night? They were volleyballing up a storm. I always got quite sore thumbs. You know? Quite red. Do you hit it with your hands when you do that one, or is it more your arms? More the forearm. Right, yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:30 Oh, is it forearm? Oh, that's what's going wrong. Yeah. You hit it with your forearm. Yeah, I think it was. Yeah, so I wasn't entirely sure, but that's why, yeah. So that's probably why you got sore. My hands would come out like swollen.
Starting point is 00:06:41 Yeah. Oh, that makes a lot of sense. Well, thank you very much for coming in, boys. No worries. Lovely to meet you. Good luck with... And thank you to your mum for paying this. $400.
Starting point is 00:06:50 I feel like we owe her. She's the MVP here. Yeah. Have a good one, guys. If you want to join the Burner Phone podcast, text BURNERPHONE to 4487 and we'll send you our digits. You could be on tomorrow's episode.
