We had a lawyer in yesterday was talking about pre-nups. Yeah, her name's Holly Edgerton, and you can find her on succession.nz. Geez, I'm proud of myself for remembering all of that information. First, last name and website. Yeah, well done. But this was her talking about pre-naps. It's probably better to do it while you're on good terms, and you can make the decision, whereas someone can just choose to be spiteful and a bit of a dick about it.

So how do you normalise that conversation then, like Megan's saying, like when you're in good times, how do you go, hey, so without feeling like you're thinking about the end of a relationship. Yeah. You know how things are going really good? But yeah, like how do you normalise that? Like how do I broach my husband and say, hey, I want to post-nup without him being like, are you're thinking about stuff.

But you're right. It's better to do it now where things are, you know, I hope it's good, right? Yeah. It could be just as simple as like, hey, did you know that the government's actually essentially written a pre-nup for us? And I'm sort of learning about it, you know, and I'd like to learn about it together just to understand what the rules are and just see whether we sort of are in line with that

or whether we've actually got any different opinions. Like, are we functioning slightly different than what it actually says? So there's a podcast of Holly on our page 2 on IHeart Radio. So theory really good. And so we made it our homework yesterday to each go home and record on our phone secretly with our partners at the conversation. Because the government does have a set of rules, like a stock standard if you're with someone for three years.

It's a de facto, yeah. It's a de facto. But you can sort of, I guess, write a bespoke. one for your own relationship. Yeah, which makes a lot of sense. But it's just really hard to bring it up. So I tried to do it casually yesterday. I was on my computer.

My wife was across the thing on the computer. I was trying to pretend like somebody just popped up on my computer. I was like, oh, oh, God. And yeah, oh, here go, have a listen. Oh, that's weird. Did you know that if we don't sign our own pre-up agreement, which we haven't done, the government decide on it by default. That's weird, eh?

Why are you looking at that? No, I just popped up on a thing. I was looking out on the internet. It just popped up. Popped up on your internet. Yeah, it's popped up. It says, uh, the defaults 50-50. It's a bit like now.

We could do one now. What? Why would you want that? Well, you can, I take all your stuff. I'm keeping the pop vinyl. The pungo pops are mine. Classic crap. Yeah, all yeah, and all my worries tops, they're mine.

You can have one. You're not getting 50-50 on that. So very quickly, I think, she realised that you're doing some weird bit. The lead in was... Oh, that was pretty good. It was quite a good performance. I love not, was it? There was more that we had to cut up the middle.

I was really trying to, oh, you know, just casually. And then I love that. Huh. That's weird? That's weird. That's weird. She's like, why is that popping up, knowing that usually things pop up when you've been searching for things?

It did go well for me. I think she saw through it. Producer Grace, she went home. Now, what's the scenario here? Oh, the setup for the... It went so bad. We're having a peaceful flat dinner, and I had to set an alarm

to remind me to do my homework about my pre-num, asking my partner about my pre-num. So having dinner, my alarm goes off. I'm not by my phone. My flatmate picks it up, and she goes to turn it off. I was like, oh, what does it say? It's a normally reminder,

and she just reads out loud to everyone. Ask Jack about prena. And I was like, oh, wow. So how long you've been together? We've been together six years. Okay, right. Okay, all right. Oh!

Alright, what do you want to ask? What do you want to ask? Do you know that the government has already written a pre-up for us? Because we've together three years. Yeah. So if you're, if you've been together three years... We're in a de facto relationship. We're in a defectual relationship.

The government is already written a pre-nup. But we don't share incomes. Am I in a de facto with you two then? Because we have been... Planning together for three years? So you're already saying that you're going to divorce, Grace, and take everything to you own? No.

your partner. Yeah, yeah. It didn't go well. I did start it with, hey, we had this great interview today. A really, really interesting chat and then led to the why are you talking about this? Why are you thinking about this? And so then yesterday, I wanted to bring it up

again. Oh no. To record content for the radio. And she didn't get home till late. text her. I said, Hey, did you know the government quote for quote?

I said, did you know that the government has a default pre-nup that automatically applies once you've been in a

relationship for three years? And the only way to override it is to have your own one draft it up. We should have

a look at that sometime. Was that everything in the text? There was no pleasantries at the start?

No. Oh, God. What time was this? You said she was out? Yeah, she's come back from the gym.

Okay. And she sent you back a voice note. Pre-up. what where did this come from are you thinking about us breaking up so you yeah

and I can understand why people would lead you know jump to that conclusion it could also be are you thinking about proposing like oh yeah true yeah we went to the negative

now we've got your Jono's and Megan's we're going to hold Megan's for just a second because it involves some someone get quite up there but let's go John oh well how was your scenario it was the same thing I just went word for word the script as well, sitting on the couch, sort of halfway through dinner I thought it'd be a nice time to bring it up in front of the kids.

The government's actually already got a pre-nup for us, like for all couples. Okay. Where's? Why are you doing research on that? It was just an article that popped us. I was just like, oh, do we want to have a conversation about what's important to us? probably should have happened about 19 years ago are you recording that

no do you want a pre-nup half is mine the end and that was the end of that conversation that's our pre-nup we've been talking about pre-nups and trying to have a conversation with our partners about it

yeah because none of us have them and so far the team including grace producer Troy Ben and myself were over from four no one's got a pre-nup across the line yet. We're just basically trolling our partners to see what we get, what response we get from them. Just trolling them for Conti.

You know, they knew what they signed up for when they got into it with us. But they've cottoned on a little bit. Like you can't have your phone. It can't be obviously recording. And especially my husband, he's so onto it. I was like, how am I going to do this? Upside down on the bench. Yeah.

So we were just like chatting. We were sitting on the bed and I put my phone face down and press record. long time in advance. Right. And then I was like, how do I bring this up? But he actually came into work the day that our lawyer was in here. So I was like, oh, I'm going to reference when he saw her. I know how that chick came in and we interviewed her about prenupt and stuff.

So The first 10 seconds are like Are they about to make love? I know, Megan does that cute little singing voice Oh, that wasn't a cute voice Have you thought about a pre-nab? That's just how I talk when I'm not yelling at the radio.

I've never heard that voice before. And we had to do it. I have to be. Shall we divide up our finances? So, poor Andrew was really blindsided there. We had to cut that down too. He went on and on. Now, you guys don't normally use language like that in the house.

No, we have a rule. like swear at each other, like in an argument or whatever there, and he dropped like three bombs in there and afterwards he was quite relieved that I was recording. But I guess I'm the only one on the show that's actually

like left a marriage. I have had a divorce. So he would have been like... Is this where it starts to unravel? I see. I thought we were joking about the third husband. Ironically, she probably used to go see Holly, our lawyer. I do now, yeah.

Yeah, for a mediation. So listen, zero from five. Hard to get the prenups across the line. But we've got the conversation started. You know, you've got it out there now. Just I keep working on it. None of us are any good at this, are we? No.

Who's going to get the jet ski in your relationship there, Megan? I think he's probably going to get all of it by the sounds of that.
