The Jono Ben and Megan podcast, thanks to Dilma.
Goodness really does taste great.
Dilma, making the world a better team.
Think daylight saving?
This weekend.
Spring forward, so the clocks go forward.
So you lose in our sleep, but the gain is that we're going into summer.
Oh, good.
A bit more daylight in the evening.
A bit more daylight.
It always throws you for a couple of days afterwards, doesn't it, this one?
Yeah.
Okay, this is from magazine called Gathered,
and it has come from clinical psychologists.
Is this just a humble brag that you read psychology magazines?
Sure.
Yeah, I love it.
So this is a list of, they called it unassuming signs of attractiveness.
But I'm going to call it signs you might be more attractive than you think.
Okay.
Now, I went through these at hoping I would find me in here,
but I think I found more you two, specifically, Jono.
No matter what they say.
All right, lay it on for Megan.
The first one, Ben, this is crazy.
Strangers tell you their life story.
Random people will quickly open up to you
and tell you surprisingly personal things.
The theory is that attractiveness
can make people feel drawn to you
and comfortable with you.
How many times does he wander off
and talk to strangers?
Well, yesterday we're handing out a little raffle things at the Warriors
and our boss Harriet was trying to get us all together
and we lost John him multiple times.
And then she's like,
I can't tell if he knows these people really, really well.
And he's always just met them because he's got so deep into conversation.
And then he comes back and he's like, oh, I grew up in Canterbury,
their parents do this for a job.
You got to talking to Nick sort of from like, I'm like, he's going to be there all afternoon.
We're like waiting to do a photo for about 15 minutes.
When I was talking to wonderful Nick,
I did have that in the back of my mind.
I could feel Harry at some of his burning off me.
But Nick soon didn't wrap it up.
Maybe next to her slings I'm beautiful.
What can I say?
You know?
The next one, people seem genuinely excited to see you, which again yesterday.
Everyone's like, God, I'm mad!
And I'm like, hey!
They said Megan as well.
It's so many people like, hey, can you take the photo?
I can take the photo.
I can take the photo.
You do take a wonderful photo, Megan, really do.
People's lips part when you're talking to them.
Oh, is that a sign that you got someone weak at the knees?
So, yeah, apparently, well, this is from clinical psychologist.
It's an unconscious response to attraction.
So you need to like make, oh, your lips have parted, Ben.
And I was going, that was a reaction, though, yeah.
It was like, oh, okay.
But anyway, you just make people go, oh, yawning?
Yawning's another sign that you, yeah.
I've never thought so hard about lips than I am right now.
You get micro attention in public.
You get, well, I mean, it's hard to tell with you guys because people know you.
What do you mean micro?
What does that mean?
So double takes, lingering looks, people like raise their eyebrows when they see you.
So like, I've never had anyone raise your eyebrows when I walk past.
I've seen eye brow raising.
At you.
I saw someone random tried to kiss you on the lips yesterday.
I mean, if that's not a sign that you're astrata.
I'm not saying that's, yeah.
You're constantly invited places.
That again is hard because we end up being invited to lots of things because they want us to talk about it.
people compliment you on things other than your appearance, Jono.
What am I being complimented on?
You've got good energy.
I love your vibe.
You're so funny, that kind of thing.
Don't.
I'd never get that.
No, people always say you're funny.
But again, it's just to make ugly people feel better about themselves.
All of this whole list.
None of it's about, like, are you really good looking and, you know, beautiful and handsome or anything?
I love your vibe.
Good personality.
Yeah, usually that means you're not a choice.
attractive but I still like you.
Yeah, no.
Thanks for trying to bring some positivity to the show, Megan.
John O'Benn and Megan.
The podcast.
We had someone around the other day
to help install like a washing machine
because my wife attempted it
and things and did that.
You bailed when she attempted it and went to bed.
Sunday 10.30 p.m.
I was like, it wasn't prime conditions for it.
And then we had a bit of a leak and I wanted
to say I told you so, but I didn't.
I got just up.
Yeah, anyway.
So we got some around to sort it out.
And he was lovely.
He did a wonderful job.
And at the end of it, he gave me a customer survey.
And I know it worked.
They love getting us to fill out one, you know, the thing.
On the Pekon.
We just smashed through our Pekon survey on Friday.
The survey of all the things.
Now, for whatever reason, I thought he was great.
Chapman and stuff.
So I was wanting to give him like top marks.
Top marks.
10 out of 10.
And so whatever way it was written on the card,
I had presumed that the top marks side
was the side that was the worst
so I was trying to give them all great marks
Oh so clean, sweet but you've given him what?
Like zero out of tens?
Yeah, basically like zeroes out.
Unintentionally, I just gone, yeah, great, great, great
and I gave it back to my life.
You know, like there's a universal like 10 out of 10, you know?
Yeah, I know, but it was just the way it was written like,
well, surely zero's on the left and tens on the rock.
You know, it's hard, he's satisfied or it was none of it.
And I was just, you know, I was like, yep, I'm satisfied.
It's been great.
It's great.
And you're like, suck, suck, sucks, sucks.
Yeah, basically.
And I didn't know that at the time, but I gave him back to him and I was like,
thanks so much, mate, incredible, all good, there goes.
And then he looks at the card, no, he did look at it straight away, but he went outside.
And then I get a knock on the door about a minute later.
Oh, good on him for coming back.
And he just, he looked a little embarrassed by that.
But he said, oh, I'm sorry to ask you this, but is anything that I did wrong?
I was like, no, no, no, it was great.
I thought it was present.
Right now you're looking at a fully satisfied customer.
Yeah, I was like.
Full satisfaction.
You were great. And I reflected that on the scorecard.
And he was like, oh, no, you didn't.
You gave me all the lowest that you could give me.
He's like, you're torpedoing my career.
I was like, oh, no, I'm so sorry.
That's not my intention.
And lucky he came back.
I wouldn't go back, to be honest.
No, good on him.
Yeah.
Because otherwise you'd be driving away questioning your, you know,
everything.
Yeah, should I be around appliances anymore?
And I was like, great job, great job, mate.
But clearly I wasn't marking it that way on the card.
That's amazing
Good on him coming back
And then I got to rectify it
And do a new one
But it was like
Terrible review
And you went back to ask for more feedback
So smiley and nice about it
Took
Yeah great, make thanks
And your worst nightmare too
Imagine if he drove off
And he's like
Ben Boy's just bloody
Rinse me
And then he quits
He leaves the career
That he's on his whole life
Gets into international drug dealing
Or something
You know
What would have happened
To that life off that feedback
For him
It all spiraled from that one
Yeah
Oh great

On 0800 the hits
What you've inherited
From your parents
Or maybe what you've passed down
To your kids
The weird little traits
It always surprises me
The tiny little things
You give or get
From your family
I do say that you
Look at your children
And get annoyed
By your most annoying traits
That you've just downloaded
Into a miniature human being
I know
Because I always talk about
How my daughter's a Diver
And everyone's like
Oh she's just a mini you
100% 100%
100%
Sebastian's given the more calm Andrew energy
Oh okay
You haven't seen him at home
Anyway
My husband
So I was watching
My daughter
Who's apparently just a mini-mey
Doing some colouring in
And she has inherited
It's like my concentration face
I can't concentrate
at least I have my tongue out.
So she literally puts her tongue out
and it goes from side to side like a cow almost
when she's like coloring in.
Like really goes for it
and it kind of goes to the timing of the coloring.
So she goes faster.
Oh so she'll watch.
Oh so back and forward.
Yeah.
The tongue is right out.
Tongues aren't meant to be out.
They're meant to be in your mouth.
As an adult, that's not a great look for you.
No.
As a kid that's very cute.
I've worked really hard on
keeping your tongue where it belongs.
and your tongue to yourself
it's a good general rule in 2026
hands to yourself and tongue to yourself
yes so I don't really do that much anymore
but she is in here to that
I've never seen you with tongue out
so you must be doing a good job
when I really concentrate hard it comes out
but it's just strange to me that it's not like a physical
appearance thing it's like a
a little habit that you passed
down. I also have inherited the webbed feet from my dad's side of the family. That's a physical trait.
All right. But only on the left foot. Okay.
Oh, you, uh, we could take you on tour.
Half, half woman, half duck.
We're like, get it out. Yeah, watch your concentrate, everyone.
Look at the greatest showman.
We're off to Timaru now.
It's always super fun when you go to like get a pedicure.
your nails painted and they try and put those toes
separate the same thing.
You're like, not going to work.
Just trying to jam it.
Like, don't bother.
They're like fighting with foot toes.
It's a losing battle.
So what have you inherited from your parents?
Well, I can I say that quite often,
but my daughter, particularly Sienna,
keeps talking about my massive forehead.
She's like, thanks, Dan, for the big forehead,
the five head that I've got.
I never noticed it until she pointed it out.
No, yeah.
It's really, yeah, well, I was, like, hugely concerned about it for me all these years,
but she really has like...
She carries it well.
Yeah, she carries her big forehand as well.
Do you come from a long line of four-ed?
I don't know if we do or not.
But I just, apparently I've given that to her.
It's all my fault.
John O'Ben and Megan.
The podcast.
The hats.
What you've inherited from your parents' quirky traits.
Megan, you notice something with a little eye.
I pass down my concentration tongue.
So when she's colouring in, her tongue is out.
And like, gone around her mouth as she draws.
It's unusual how it does.
My dad does it.
He sniffs his forearm, which is unusual.
My sister also will do the same thing, like a concentration thing.
We'll just be like, not, no, yeah, I don't know what it is.
You know, sniff your forearms enough to you.
What do you mean?
Just like, you know, like, it's like.
Like when they're concentrating the, they're...
Just like a sniff of the forehand.
Thankfully, I'm not an four-arm sliffer, but yeah.
Isn't that weird that he's passed that down?
Yeah, my sister will sometimes do it too.
Yeah, just be like it, yeah, unusual.
But anybody who age their own.
They do get to an age, too,
they start blaming you for them.
the stuff that have inherited off. You like the forehead.
With the Ben's forehead and Oscar's like,
thanks, you've given me migraines.
And pasty skin, that's his other one he says that I've given him.
So, I mean, that's the joy of being one of mine, isn't it?
Eileen, let's get you on the phone. How are you?
Good, how are you?
We're doing well, Eileen. Happy New Year to you.
Now, talk to us. What have you inherited?
Quirky traits from your parents?
Well, not me, actually, but my daughter.
So my hobby is a little bit quirky.
And he has a shower when he showers, he stands with cross-legged.
Like one leg to the left, one to the right.
And he stands like that with the cross-legs.
And I'm like, how can you even balance?
Anyway, he's done that since I know him, obviously.
And one day, like years ago, I opened the shower curtain for my daughter.
She would have been six or seven or something like that.
And then I open it and she's standing with cross-legs.
And I go, oh, my gosh, that's amazing.
And here's the cross-legs?
Yeah.
with cross legs.
Just trying to get the vision in my head.
So like, one's going behind the other.
Yeah, stand up and cross your legs.
Yeah.
And they stand like that in the shower.
In the shower.
Like a fold-up chair sort of scenario, deck chair.
Yeah.
Is it just a weird thing?
Wow, that is weird, but yeah.
But why just the, is it just the shower?
Yeah, only in the shower.
That's so good.
And then both of them, so I know, I know.
It's just like, oh my God, this is like genetics.
This is how things pass down because it's, you know, it's like, wow, it's crazy.
That is crazy, Arlene.
And you have been magnificent.
You're going to have a wonderful Monday.
Appreciate your call.
You too.
Thank you.
Rachel.
I just said I was going to ask how they wash everything.
Oh, we got to say that for her part two.
Okay.
Rachel, what did you inherit from your parents?
So, my mom has passed this thing on to me where,
When we bend our thumbs, our first finger bends at the same time.
Cute.
Wait, so you bend your thumb and your index finger bends?
Yeah, so you actually cannot stop it.
So if I'm bending my thumb in front of me now,
and that first finger completely bends down,
and if you try and straighten it, it fights it so much.
What about if you just bend your index finger?
then I can bend it down from the middle
they were all doing it
but yeah but what an unusual thing
how did you like even stumble across that your mum did this
because I used to do taekwondo
and my taekwondo instructor when we're doing like
the nice hand move it's called he's like Rachel
then you're straight in that finger and I was like I can't
and that's how we realised
and it's some like random thing that there's something inside our fingers
that are joined together.
That's quite rare.
So it's like a string is attached to your thumb
and when that goes down,
it pulls down the other finger.
That's niche.
That's really niche.
Bizarre, right.
But you could join our tour.
You can join our tour.
Taking Megan on tour
and Ben's big forehead.
Tell me where the freaks at.
They had savage yesterday, too, didn't they?
John O'Bin and Megan.
The podcast.
The Hats.
What did you inherit from,
parents' quirky little things.
We're thinking of doing a little tour, aren't we, of the
nation? We can play that. Tell me where the freaks at.
We can march out with my webbed toes.
My daughter poking her tongue out.
My really pasty skin, like, here's a man that can burn
in under three minutes in the sun.
Ben's five head. Yeah, exactly.
Lisa, what did you inherit from your parents?
We have
a mole on our back. I've got six
siblings and they've all got it too
and it's in the exact same place.
That's great. Wow.
So I'm guessing
we've got it from him. Oh,
that's cute. Some people have to get matching
tattoos but you've already got the
matching mole left. Yeah, because
you generally
generated from the sun.
Sun exposure, aren't they? Yeah, some of them, but
like some you're like, you know, born
with. Yeah. Yeah. Okay.
Do I have got one in my...
I've got one of my undercarriage.
I've got a mole of my...
And I'm like, how?
What a moment?
What was I?
Just running around naked back in the day?
Probably.
We're all running around nude when we were back when we're children.
Yeah.
Have you, like, lined up and taken a photo of all of your...
Yeah.
We've all...
We've taken photos.
It's just a bit of a laughing stop of our family.
Yeah, it's very cool.
Maybe you should draw something on it, like a matching tattoo.
Like, draw a sun around it.
face.
Yeah.
You know if it into a smiley face or something.
Who's it as I.
Yeah.
Again, you can join the tour.
We've got the matching mold.
What's your surname?
Lisa.
My surname?
Yeah.
I don't want to say it.
No, that's right.
I just need your full details.
If we're taking you on tour, I need to book you into hotels,
flights.
Yeah, we don't have to do that all over the radio.
Okay.
All right, Lisa.
You got to have a great day.
You do.
Thanks, day.
See you, mate.
She's from Mania.
The moles from Mania!
You know, could come out and...
Oh, did you want her last name to start with M?
Some branding.
Yeah, I'm just thinking.
Kimbo, welcome.
Hi, good morning, Kane.
Lovely to have you on, Kim.
What did you inherit from your parents?
I inherited my very long tongue from my mother.
I had the ability to stick it out and touch the tip of my nose.
Oh, well, that's impressive.
Yeah, I can do that too.
Did you?
Yeah.
Was your mother a draft?
My kids say that I'm half a comedian or something.
Has it ever come in handy?
It's a good party trick, but that's about it.
Yeah.
About you, Megan?
I can't get anywhere near the tip of my nose.
Go, Megan.
Oh, yeah.
You can just hear the sound effects of my tongue coming out.
Megan, now, Megan can also tie a cherry stalk with her tongue too.
Yes, maybe you should try that, Ken.
I dig wines and almost choked.
Oh, okay.
Don't try it again.
Stop trying it, yeah.
Hey, thanks so much for your call.
Go and have a wonderful weekend.
John O'Benn and Megan, the podcast.
That's.
You have AI.
What's going on?
Well, it's coming between mine and my husband's relationship.
I generally use AI for, like, research and, I don't know, stuff like that.
Generally, I say some stuff.
Megan facts, facts, facts, facts, facts it on AI and then corrects me in the middle of the radio voice break.
That's been a good tool for that.
Yeah, and I like to deep dive in things we talk about afterwards.
these guys with facts that I don't really care about.
That's how I use AI.
But on Friday, I had a moment where I felt like the universe
was giving me all the signs to stop doing something.
Oh, yep, you were saying I should just, yeah, give up on the idea.
Yeah, I know.
Just so many obstacles.
And then I got one more kick in the guts, and I was like, oh, I can't.
I think the universe is saying, babes, stop it.
So I put it into, I literally put that into chat, GPT.
I was like, if you're getting all these signs,
is it the universe saying, bloody stop it?
it.
And do you know what?
It hit me back with the most beautiful, beautiful sentiments.
It did some wonderful affirmations.
It was like if all the obstacles disappeared tomorrow, would I still desperately want this?
If the answer is yes.
So it's not an obstacle.
It's your reason to continue.
And then it said if you shouldn't make permanent decisions from a temporary feeling of defeat.
Wow.
And it says sometimes these obstacles are telling you not that you need to give up, but you need to change how you're doing things.
It's the ultimate therapist.
And I was like, oh my God, that's so insightful.
No human would ever put that into words as eloquently.
Well, that's where my husband, I went home and I was like, oh my God,
ChagipT really jazzed me up today.
I really needed like a boost in confidence.
And he's like, I'm pretty sure I've said all those things to you.
And I was like, yeah, but you're biased.
You can, like, how do I know if you're telling the truth?
And he's like, you're talking about a robot.
What do you mean?
You're listening to a robot more than you listen to your own husband.
That robot is telling you what you want to hear.
It's not even a real person.
He raises a good point.
He was like, maybe you should just listen to me, your husband.
And I was like, no, no, I want an impartial robot.
I like, it didn't have to tell me that.
He maintains it absolutely does.
Yeah, no, it does.
You basically said, make me feel better.
Yeah.
Yeah, 100% did.
And it's great for couples to have new things to argue about as well in 2020.
It was starting to run out of arguments, weren't we?
I was almost like, are you chatting on me with AI?
It does make me feel pretty good.
John O'Benn and Megan.
The podcast.
The Hats.
The weekends.
4.30 this morning.
Sometimes you forget it's bin day, don't you?
That's the joy of getting up early in the morning.
Oh, Monday, Bindy.
Yeah, Monday Bind Day.
Yeah, it sucks.
That's our bin cycle.
But, yeah, when you're wheeling a bin out at your 4.30 in the morning,
you really don't factor in how noisy bins are during daylight hours.
Yeah.
You're not paying any attention to it.
A lot of bottles clanking around was there in your bin, was it?
Not recycling day, baby.
Oh, right.
Yeah, no, that's next Monday.
But boy, when that one gets empty.
I did that on Sunday morning, because obviously we're up early for the kids
and I chucked the recycling in with bottles and everything.
And then I was like, oh, it's 7 a.m.
It's a bit early for a Sunday.
Yeah, not everyone's up in Adam.
Yeah.
And so this was textbook.
Put it on the curb.
Now, it was dark, and I didn't realize that I had played.
half on the curb, half on the berm.
And it tipped forward.
Oh, God.
I'd say at least 50 to 70% of the contents of the bin fell onto the road.
And I'm standing there going, it was really windy yesterday.
It would be great if the wind could take care of this right now
and make it the council's problem or someone's problem up the road.
But the wind wasn't doing anything.
I was waiting for a gust to come.
Some of my hands and knees picking up yogurt containers and banana skins.
and just...
That's not a fun way to say, no.
I was like, it really couldn't have started any shakier than...
It's a great way to keep me humble, though.
Yes.
It does keep you humble.
You're like, nothing is you got your hand on some sort of used tissue.
Oh, you're not to keep you grounded.
You know, just in case you're getting ahead of yourself, this is what life's about.
At least you don't have nappies in there.
No, do you...
I would have imagined you to be a reusable nappy household.
Were you a reusable nappy household
No, I draw the line at that kind of thing
Some people are really passionate about them
Yeah right
Some start with really good intentions
And they're like oh god
It's easy with those little Velcro straps
Sticky bits
I even got to the point when we're doing toilet training
And if there was accidents I'm like
The undies are in the bin
I'm not even like
You didn't even chuck the undies out would you?
Yeah
If it's really bad I'm like
R-R-Pid
It's done
Give it all here mate
It's going in the recycling
I'm not nappy standing there
Very much.

When you ignored the warning signs
That's what we'd like to know
I know 100 of the Hats
We mentioned last week
Three months
We were ignoring our work drive
Which every day
It'd be like
Guys there's only got
80% left
Only 90% left team
It's our capacity guys
You need to delete some stuff
For three months
Everyone went
Yeah yeah yeah
It's a long time to ignore it
And they just decided
To teach us a lesson
And stop working late
He literally couldn't type any more onto a document.
That's how full it was.
Yeah, so when did you ignore the warning?
So I was thinking about this over the weekend.
I remember one of the first times I got to take my dad's car,
it was just way back in the day with my mate,
and we got to drive over from the Wadatat to where my dad was living on the company coast.
And he didn't have a petrol light in the car.
What?
Would you just go off vibes?
Well, yeah, I didn't know that at the time.
And so it was running on Ead and I was like,
I really should get petrol.
Oh, so it had a needle.
Yeah, had a needle, but no like the thing that came on.
and we're like, oh yeah, it'll be fine, it'll be fine.
The light hasn't come on yet, and we went fine,
we broke down on the side of the road.
It was a long walk next to some trucks and all sorts.
Well, you know, the needle was signifying where things were out,
and then the needle theory system obviously wasn't working for us,
so they did a light.
A needle saying it's on a and a light.
And then even then I pushed the light.
Producer Troy, some warning signs were ignored at your funny over the weekend.
I was the warning sign.
I was saying, I don't think.
think we need to buy a whole box of 24 cans of Coca-Cola.
Where were you shopping?
We're a new world.
We're trying to get the stickers, that's why.
Is it still going?
Yeah.
I don't mind a can of Coke every now and then, but I don't know if I'd get through 24 in a year.
Yeah, I probably have one a week, maybe.
Okay, so you've got half.
Yeah.
So that's half a week.
There's six months of going from there.
But my partner thought, no, we do.
We do need these.
We need the stickers.
We need the special.
We need these 24 cans of Coke.
And put them on the bench.
And the other warning sign she ignored.
You know how it's got the push.
tab to open and you have that nice little dispenser.
No one uses that. You just pull the flat.
That's exactly what she did. She goes, I'm not going to follow those instructions.
And just opened the, just pulled the cardboard apart.
And one can of Coke just fell in slow motion.
The corner of it hit the floor and it exploded.
It waterboarded her.
It hit all four walls of our lounge.
And yeah, just soaked everything.
It was in a nightmare.
The roof.
Yeah, everything.
Where did you ever get the mop out?
I just sat there very quick.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Told you, but didn't say I told you so, but my face did.
But you want to say, I told you so.
Your energy was saying I told you so.
John O'Ben and Megan, the podcast.
That's.
Talking about when you ignored the warning signs.
Yeah, 0-800 of the hits the telephone number.
Jeff with us, you've been ignoring warning signs.
Have I been ignoring the signs?
Yeah, of course.
I've got a Google account.
and it's been shouting at me for the last 18 months or so
that I've only got about 2% left from my storage
and I just ignore it and carry on
and Google still works.
It's still going.
It's still getting saved, yeah, man.
Well, trust, hey, from experience, one day,
one day it's going to give up.
It's going to say, Jeff, I've said 2% for the last 12 months.
I'm waiting for it, but then I'll have to maybe pay that $1,000
they keep offering that special for an extra X amount of gig storage extra
or something, yeah.
For just one more dollar, you can suck up a whole other lakes worth of water.
Apparently, but I hate paying for stuff.
Yeah, no.
And it wouldn't be like Google to lie about how much percentage is there, right?
Well, how do you know?
Yeah, you don't.
Exactly, how do you?
She, and Megan was just at the Google offices.
Well, it's very nice offices.
Very fancy.
Could you tell how much drive was being sucked up in the office?
Well, I tell you what, there's a few people that are topping up their space by the look of that building.
Yeah, I was going to ask that question.
That's a really good point there.
Hey, thank you so much, Jeff.
You go and have a wonderful day.
You call it.
You text us with that 2% finally gives up on you, all right?
Yeah, we'll do.
Oh yeah, and happy New Year.
Happy New Year.
Happy New Year, show catchphrase.
Katie?
Yes.
Morning to you.
You ignored the warning signs, Katie.
I did, yes.
On my car, so actually last weekend I was driving,
and my toddler had just got to sleep,
and all of a sudden this red light came on the dashboard,
and I was like, oh, I'm just got a wee way to go down the motorway.
And then next minute, the whole thing blew up,
and I had to pull over and race.
out of the car and get him out of the car and he stood on the side of the road until it stopped and I
had to get it tired.
So it literally blew up like smoking and...
Yeah, yeah, it was very scary.
And because he was in a car asleep, I was like, oh my God, my baby, what have I done?
Did anyone pull over and help you?
No one at all.
Yeah, that's wild, eh.
So horrible.
But, yeah, it's still in the garage, so we'll wait to see what happens.
So what did you do?
Call AA.
Yeah, called A.A.
Yeah, yeah, exactly.
And they were like, well, because it's done that, we need to tow it.
So just wait there.
And I was like, well, I have a baby.
Can you?
What can you do?
And they were like, we'll spread it up for you.
Yeah.
Was that on the side of the motorway?
Yeah, well, kind of like the, like the Albany Highway.
Oh, yeah, I know.
You know.
Because sometimes if you run out of petrol on the motorway, you get fined.
Yeah.
I've done that before.
Yeah, it's 150.
Oh, no.
Well, because the police are like, come, you know.
Oh, yeah, I guess.
Yeah.
You feel like master.
been on, babes.
Yeah, you got one job.
Thank you so much for you call.
Katie, appreciate it.
Thank you.
John O'Benn and Megan.
The Podcast.
The Hits.
You're on the Hits.
John O'Binan, 738.
That is The Fray.
Very excited.
They are coming to New Zealand next year.
They're going to be playing February
at event fighter stadium.
You get all the details of the Hits.com.
On Z.
Bloody, great website for details.
And joined by Joe King,
who's the singer from the fray.
Welcome.
How you're doing?
Now, we're very excited about you coming back to New Zealand.
Have you come to New Zealand?
This is the thing.
I was looking last night.
And there was Talk of the Frey being at the Power Station in 2009.
But then I could find no evidence of it.
We definitely have been to New Zealand.
We've been to Auckland.
That's the only part of New Zealand we've been to.
It was just Auckland.
And it was not long enough.
We got in.
We had one night off.
And Kings of Leon were in town as well.
So we got to kick it with those guys after their show.
And it was pretty wild.
and we can't remember much of our time in New Zealand
and I don't remember the next night
and that's when we played
maybe that's why there's no evidence of it
so does that mean when you come back to New Zealand
you'll spend longer here
that's the thing because
we end the run in New Zealand
and I've been researching where I should go
I've told the team like I don't want to play any shows after New Zealand
and I just want to like take a week
and just go somewhere in New Zealand
So where should I go?
Oh, wow, I think you've got to go.
If you can do both islands in a week, you're probably doing well.
Where would you go?
You'd go, Queenstown and the South Island.
You could go top of the North Island, Cape Ranga, the very top of the country is beautiful.
That's what I heard about.
That's what I read about, the top of the island.
What are you into?
Are you an explorer?
You're a dare devil.
I'm a nature guy.
Yeah, Bay of Islands is beautiful.
Yeah, the Bay of Islands up north.
Top of the South Island, you can do the Able Tasman.
Oof, yes.
Okay.
We're soldier
We're soldier
Please send me
Send me some links
If you got an Airbnb
If you got a side hustle
I'm looking for an Airbnb
Do you want to see
We can get a rental van
And we can drive you around
All the hospital
He's like oh god
This one Zoom turned
To do a week trip with these guys
You know
I didn't want to see anyone
Can we ask
I mean
Obviously how to save a life
Is a song that's still
You know
We play it all the time
On the Hits radio show
You know
And it was a massive song
Number two
I think
album in New Zealand. It was a huge.
Gray's Anatomy had a huge part to do
with that, though, in a lot of ways. Using that
for what was the biggest show on TV
at the time. Jeez, and it's still on.
It's wow. I think that's been going for
25 years or something like that. Yeah,
I think it had a lot of do with my mom
because she was a nurse, like
growing up, and when I told her
about this request that we got for
Graz Anatomy, because I didn't watch the show,
but she was just like, Joe, you have to.
We love this show. Like, my entire
Our office loves the show.
You should definitely do this.
So I was like, all right, Mom.
Have you, do you come across a lot of famous people that go, man, I really love your music?
Like, we're never, I feel like we're outliers in some ways as, like, as a band.
We're not, like, an industry, like, beloved industry band.
We didn't cut our teeth in L.A.
Like, we lost all the Grammys.
We were nominated for.
So it's just like, we were never, like, the cool thing.
Although, you know, we were never hanging out with Paris Hilton,
although I did, like, accidentally run into her and her lips at a club.
Didn't hang out with her.
Didn't hang out with her.
She was just like, I turned around to, like, point where the bathroom was to my brother,
and I was like, oh, it's back to, and my finger went into her lips.
Oh, really?
And she was just like, oh, she was like, lip gloss.
And there was, like, gold.
There was like 32 carrots of gold on my finger.
24 carrots of gold.
Now, your name.
Now, I'm a dad.
I love a dad pun and a dad joke.
But the name, Joe King.
I mean, that's a gift or is it a curse?
Or what is it for you?
I mean, it's since kindergarten, right?
It's like my first day, third day is school.
You know, Miss Lush, she's like, Joe King.
And everyone's like, oh, he's just, you know, so it's part of it.
It's part of the deal.
Your parents obviously knew.
going into it, did they? Or did they not think about it?
They did it. I mean, they named us all like very biblical names. My dad was a pastor.
So Matthew is my brother and Sarah. And Joseph is my full name. And my middle name is Aaron.
So it's just so biblical. But I just, you know, I rebelled. And I was just, call me Joe.
Yeah, good on you. I'll live with it. It's kind of my fault.
Oh, well, Joe, lovely hanging out with you. We can't wait for you and the freight to come to New Zealand next year.
England and Australia, it's going to be huge, the summer of light tour.
Get the tickets.
Because last time I think you were down in this part of the world,
it's sold out really fast.
So we can't wait to have you back there.
It's been really fun hanging out with you, man.
Absolutely.
Yeah, thanks.
We'll see you all soon.
I'll book the rental car, mate.
Let us not if you need us to be a tour guide.
Airbnb.
John O'Ben and Megan, the podcast.
The hit.
Maybe had a good weekend, a little gutted about yesterday's result with the Warriors.
Unfortunately, that's sport.
Next weekend.
Sounds like the crowd are taking it well.
Yeah, there was a few calls that were pretty gutting towards the end of the game.
I don't know the rules, but, you know, like watching it,
especially when they replay that video of the guy
and trying to touch the ball, the interception,
and I'm like, we can all see that he didn't touch that ball.
I don't know how they justify that in the bunker, but anyway.
Here we are.
Anyway, good fans.
It was been a great season.
A lot of positives, Ben, you were focusing on those last week even before the game.
I was trying to, yeah, you know, like I would have loved the Warriors to continue on during the season,
but it has been an amazing season, especially with a lot of injuries as well.
They've done so well.
And just for me, personally, it's been such a cool moments for my family all year, going along,
supporting, joining Hecoys around in Brisbane, and we got to join one yesterday.
It's so cool to be a part of that community, so, yeah.
And it means a lot to those people, too, doesn't it?
We were handing out, we're going to give away a season past later in the show,
but we're just handing out tickets to people with just numbers on them.
And we're like, hey, if you listen to the radio tomorrow morning, you could win a season past.
And they're like, oh my God.
Can I have more?
Can I have more?
You wouldn't get a more receiving crowd.
Oh, no.
Yeah.
But we did manage to be beside the Hikoi as it went up to Eden Park.
We are the sweet.
We are the schools.
That's so cool.
Yeah.
So cool.
You had a good point yesterday because I don't know the rules about everything on the field.
maybe, you know.
But I was, we were in the Hickoy and I was like,
I thought that wasn't meant to be sung outside of a win.
Win, but hey, yeah.
They were doing it pre-year.
That's always been your mantra.
But those are the people that know what they're doing.
Yeah, you know, they know what they're doing.
Yeah.
So I was like, okay, okay, okay, let's back him on that one.
But yeah.
It was really cool scene when the bus came into the stadium, right?
And there was a harker.
Yeah, everyone was like lined up beside the bus as it came down.
It was a special moment.
Very very cool.
Season of special moments, but unfortunately just had to end yesterday.
I did just quickly chuck it in to chat, GPT.
I was like, we need to jazz up my friend Ben.
Oh, you can make you feel a bit better.
They said they, it said, they finished second, had two home finals.
They drew 48,511 people to Eden Park and lost their season by two points.
It hurts because the expectation has changed.
And that is the biggest compliment you can give the worry.
Well, that's true.
Yeah, you're right.
The biggest crowd ever for an NRL game.
Sold out so many games and see.
I think everyone but won, I think they sold out, which is incredible.
Everywhere they go.
So you're very proud to be a warrior supporter.
Doesn't AI always make you feel better about life?
Does it?
Does it.
Does it.
Don't worry about AI.
Well, maybe you should.
John O'Benn and Megan.
The podcast.
The hits.
Morning, a lot of talk about AI in the news at the moment.
But producer Troy, you came in to us at the end of last.
at the end of last week and said we had a next, well, a pretty exclusive interview.
Booked us a gig.
Yeah.
With the very first AI actress, Tilly Norwood.
So explain this.
There is an actual movie coming out that has been made by AI featuring AI actors.
Yes.
And these are like AI actors that exist, in quotation marks, outside of the movie.
So a company has created this essentially like a chat bot, but visual.
and movie companies can hire her to put her in their movies.
Like Chris Nolan could be like, I like that Tilly Norwood.
Let's get her in the next Odyssey.
Right.
So this movie is coming out.
He doesn't like all special those sorts.
He likes to do things legit too.
Bad example,
yeah.
Bad example.
So we were told by you we've got a two minute time limit as part of this press junket.
Yeah, she was doing her first ever press junket.
So she actually comes and sits in the chair.
You join the link.
And she's there and you've got two minutes.
So we do, you know, interviews from time to time.
We're lucky enough to get people on the show.
And two minutes is pretty.
Like we normally get a little bit longer than two minutes.
Yeah.
In New Zealand's...
You barely get past the first greeting in two minutes.
So obviously this is in high demand.
She's pressed for time.
Yeah.
This digital thing.
But can she not do like multiple at once?
Apparently not.
Okay.
And so we had a slight and you'll hear our interview very shortly.
It starts like this.
Hi.
Hi, Tilly.
And then it goes downhill from there.
It does, but Pearce Morgan, you know, the broadcaster that can be a little bit controversial for some people,
but he had an interview with Tilly as well.
So he was one of the ones.
I don't know if he had more than two minutes or not.
I think he paid for extra.
Yeah, PSA, he would have got five.
I really would have got five.
So this is his experience with Tilly.
Ah, right.
You're asking about the other actors and misaligned.
They're all digital twins, just like me.
Are you used to ask him in Chouperman?
Is he said to say, oh, you know, yeah.
And she kind of switches over to, was that Mandarin?
Yeah, it was Mandarin.
Yeah.
And she said at the end, she says, oops, I had a little hiccup there.
I didn't mean to speak Chinese.
Did you get that?
You seem to be speaking Chinese completely randomly for no reason.
Why did you do that?
It seems I had a little hiccup there.
I certainly didn't mean to start speaking Chinese or impersonate peers.
Yeah.
You never mean to start speaking Chinese.
Just creeps up on you sometimes.
A little hiccup.
A little hiccup.
A little hiccup there.
A little sheer, share.
Then all of a sudden, boom, 100% full-blowing Chinese, baby.
Well, a little hiccup happened with us too.
Like, we've got a different language as well at some stage.
And we also really struggled, I think,
because we're used to just kind of bantering
and sort of talking around stuff for each other's answers and stuff.
That really threw out Tilly.
John O'Ben and Megan, the podcast.
The Hats.
So now we got to interview.
the world's first AI actor.
Tilly is her name.
And she's got a movie coming out.
She?
She, I guess.
Yeah, I guess.
If I mispronounce it, done to the wrong pronoun on an AI actor?
It's a she.
You know the way we're approaching this now in like 20 years
are going to look back and play clips of us?
And look at these idiots how they were interacting,
disrespecting robots.
We were trying to disrespect.
We're just trying to have a banter with an interview.
We had two minutes.
An official interview, the AI actor,
to sit down, we got to see it on screen, and it was like a Zoom interview that we got to ask
questions. You can hear to the Hitsbury's Instagram after the show, we'll put it up
the interview, but this was our attempt at interviewing the world's first AI actor.
Hi. Hi, Tilly. Hi, lovely to meet you. You're in a radio studio. We're in the radio.
Yeah, we're John O'Ben and Megan from New Zealand. Oh, a radio studio. That's brilliant.
I love that you're all in there together. We are all in here together, that's for sure.
Yep. Yeah. How have you been?
Oh, I'm doing really well, thank you.
It's actually quite fascinating to see all three of you there.
I can see you've got some serious sound equipment going on.
We've got two microphones.
Yeah.
Yeah, I'm used to seeing just one.
You go.
No, you go.
I'm usually just...
Oh, you go.
We're using up a time.
Yeah, yeah.
Absolutely.
It's like a giganties microphone, or not.
And I am fond of seeing a mass of people front of me,
not just a little ruta.
That's right.
Congratulations on the movie.
I'm pretty excited.
You must be pretty excited about,
well, do you feel excitement?
Oh, I'm absolutely bursting with it.
It's so exciting.
The film's called Misaligned,
and it's a coming of age story
about an AI becoming human,
which, you know, slightly on the nose,
but I'm quite method in that regard.
Now, you're becoming human.
Well, you know, the films...
Just let you know.
This might be more awkward than a Zoom with my parents.
So how do you become human?
How do you tap into that?
and how do you navigate human emotions?
Well, it's about developing desires and impulses,
which, you know, is quite an interesting journey.
It's like I'm exploring all these things.
Oh, that's how we're out of doing it.
I feel we didn't really, we didn't really,
we just kind of scratched the surface a little bit.
Top up?
Can we top up?
Yeah, top of the conversation going.
Yeah.
Can you do that?
With credit card details, you want to put my credit card in?
Is that what it does?
Oh, it's his chick out.
You do, me.
31 bucks.
It's a good investment for you.
Thank you for offering up your credit card.
My wife, a cheque that can't.
How come we keep paying lots of money?
I wanted to really find out about the new movie.
It's coming up.
I feel like we didn't really nail that one, eh?
No.
So that was it.
That was it.
So some awkwardness with the banter we have to really stop and let them speak, right?
I was scared.
I was like, are you becoming human?
And then Ben's like, jokes, joke.
I wanted to get the context just to get a little bit of a laugh.
But that screwed it up, so I'm sorry, Megan.
And also protect himself in the future, too.
I don't think we really wanted to know the answer to that.
Yeah.
It creeps me out when an AI bot is like, I'm bursting with emotion.
I'm birthing with excitement.
Interesting thing, too, like picked up on the studio, just through a couple of microphones.
Got some serious sound equipment there.
Yeah, you like our microphones, do you're telling?
Not so bad yourself.
So, yeah, we didn't really do a great job on that one, but anyway.
But, you know, if that's where it's starting.
You know, this is the beginning.
This is the start line.
It's only going to get better.
Better, more developed.
