The Hits with the Jono and Ben podcast. Thanks to Challenge, putting the service back into service stations. Yeah, it's good to be here, guys. I love being back and I love just reminiscing about the many years we worked together on the legendary show that was Jono and Ben. We did work together and you worked with Jono for a few years before that on Jono's show as well. We have been through like a Vietnam experience. Honestly, some of the best years of my life.

It was like that, a lot like that. We did some crazy stuff though. Do you remember the time when we needed to kill Ben off for some reason? I don't know why. I don't know what part of this live TV show we needed to kill Ben off. So we dressed Ben's clothes up in a dummy

and we threw it off the Wh yes fangare falls and then um it looked way we did this day most of the days i'm john and ben our props were very bad but on this day we nailed the brief and it looked way too much like a real body and we started freaking out as there's these kids down the down the river who just saw this lifelike human body floating down and then i'm running down the path going like don't worry don't worry it's just Ben just the guy you see off tv who you know and love that's just him dead body lying in the river then our sound guy Jeremy had to dive in and go and get it it was we were doing it was a tour up the country for red nose day and Ben had booked a trip overseas so we had to come up with an elaborate story point as to why he had halfway through the trip. I remember just finding that so stressful.

The number of crazy things we did every day. Our worst one was when we tried to get you and we were hitting camera with our boss and we were like, have a meeting with Guy. I started crying. I started crying. Because we knew we were filming obviously and it was meant to

be like, you'd said some things about a show on TV3 at the time over Twitter and we were like, obviously, and it was meant to be like, yeah, you'd said some things about a show on TV3 at the time over Twitter. And we were like, oh, give Guy a bit of grief about this and maybe say, you know, I'm going to apologize, maybe lose your job. And then we'll reveal it's a joke. And then he started with, what do you think about the show? What do you like and not like about the show? And we were all listening to this. This makes me cringe so hard.

Us too, because we were like, oh, no, Guy. And Guy's very opinionated. He starts saying the things that he likes and doesn't like listening to this. This makes me cringe so hard. We can't listen to this. Yeah. I think I had to take the headphones off

at the point where you're like, they put me in wigs. So let's go through, because we don't work with you as much anymore. Yeah, what happened to that show? Hey, don't bring that up. You still loud? Yeah. Okay, good. Still tall, still tall, good. Still living with your parents? Nah, nah, I moved out. I'm living the dream now. I'm 36 and I'm living my best life.

Okay, good. Okay, you're still 30 minutes late for everything? Yeah, man. Yeah, I'm still shambles. Now, Guy, zealand today is back and you've managed to track down uh an australian icon this uh this is a clip that you would have seen that go viral on the internet it's an old school it looks like news footage oh it's one of my favorite videos of all time man i quote it every day. Gentlemen, this is democracy manifest.

What is the charge? Eating a meal? A succulent Chinese meal? I can't do it justice, but I love that guy so much. And you tricked him down. I found him. I found him. I thought it was a Kiwi clip.

It's actually Australian. I thought he was a scam artist. So I thought we were going to meet a guy doing minor patty fries. He's like, no, no, no, I'm not a scam artist. I was just a bank robber. And I was like, that's worse. Very controversially, I smuggled two succulent Chinese meals in my bag to Australia to get Jack to test it. When I turned up to Jack, he was absolutely, the guy from the succulent Chinese meal video, he was absolutely wasted off his face.

Like he was not good to go. He was like, I'll try your meals. And he just started smashing it in it was just a classic disaster um so i went back the next day because i was like he'll sober up next day he was probably more drunk than the first day and isn't that just like the aussie battlers eh it was just one of those things where like um just small town new zealand and australia are amazing and we were there in the outback like we just go to the pub to try and find jack because we know he lives in this town but we don't know where but we know it's a small town people know

okay so i go to the pub and i meet this battler and i go and i go oh do you know jack he's like hell yeah i don't know i know him and uh and also i um i was in jail with him and um i was like oh man this is getting nervous but i what i had to ask I was like, what did you do to get to jail with Jack? And he's like, murder. I was like, murder! Murder! I can talk it down a little bit. It wasn't quite murder.

What had happened? Did someone die? Peel did die. Was it his fault? No, no, no. Innocent, innocent. He did explain it, all right? He was a boxing coach. And he had it, all right? He was a boxing coach,

and he had a guy who he trained who was a boxing guy who was also a gang member in Australia, a member of a big Australian bikie gang. And one night, it was his birthday, and he was having a party, and this guy he trained in boxing showed up with some bodies. This guy had been on a killing spree. Yeah, I know, I know i know i know this is new

zealand today this is the show right like it's not always comedy sometimes it goes to the darkest place i'm just in the pub like scared for my life i'm like i'm gonna die um and so he didn't actually this is a good lesson for all the children out there if you're friends with a bikey gang member if someone if a bikey gang member does come with some bodies You've got to call the police immediately If you help him move the bodies You will be an accessory to murder And you can do 5-10 years in jail Which is what this guy did

So he didn't kill anyone But he was an accessory to the murder Because he helped move the bodies Just off his property But he didn't have a good line He's like Because I was a boxing coach and my tagline became

very shortly Guy we wanted to try something with you we've got in the corner here a soundproof booth which we use for five words now as you know you're loud

when you talk. We want to know if we can hear you inside the soundproof booth talking through these microphones here. Can we do a social experiment? Yeah, I'm excited. Okay, so Guy's going to make his way over to the booth. Okay. And we'll just get him talking in the booth and we'll see if we can pick him up in the mics. Do you want to give it a go?

I travel all around New Zealand talking to some of the most exciting people from New Zealand and Australia sometimes. This is going to be the best season of the show, I reckon, 100%. We can hear it. I can hear it. It was pretty good. It's actually probably at a normal level compared to the rest of the interview
