Starting point is 00:00:00 The Hits, with the Jono and Ben podcast. Thanks to Challenge, putting the service back into service stations. We're going to find out more about the creator behind the song, a DJ from Australia by the name of Cyril. And he joins us right now. How you doing, Cyril? Good, how are you? Yeah, we're doing well. Really appreciate you. A big fan of the bucket hat, which I love. I, you know, about four or five years ago, I came to work in a bucket hat, and Ben told me that I looked like a party pill dealer, an old man party pill dealer.
Starting point is 00:00:28 Who shouldn't be at a festival. Selling pills to young people. It's something that you've got to have confidence to pull off. I mean, you feel like you can do it. Yeah, I think the mullet sort of keeps it okay. It looks really good. It suits you. Hey, congratulations on your huge success
Starting point is 00:00:45 Could you have imagined how big the song would have got? Thank you so much I had no idea honestly Yeah I made it for fun That's a song from 1978 Chris Norman, Suzy Quatro You've remixed it into a worldwide smash Where did you hear a song from 45 years ago?
Starting point is 00:01:02 Honestly it was on my Local radio And I heard it when I was a kid. So I was going to play at a festival, and, yeah, I sat there for 15 minutes and quickly made up a quick idea, and then I, yeah, I uploaded it. So that was made in 15 minutes? Yeah, yeah, I've done stuff around. Jesus, your bloody generation. Everything's got to be so quick nowadays, isn't it?
Starting point is 00:01:26 Oh, it's very cool. Is Chris and Sus generation, everything's got to be so quick nowadays, isn't it? Oh, it's very cool. Is Chris and Susie, have they got in touch thanking you for their royalties? I don't think I'll be in touch with them.
Starting point is 00:01:34 They're in a different record label, so we had to replay the vocal. So it's actually technically an original, I think. Chris and Susie's
Starting point is 00:01:41 still with us. I don't know, 45 years ago. You're right. I think they are. Oh, they are? Good, good, good. R.I.P. R.I. with us I don't know 45 years ago you're right I think they are oh they are good good good RIP
Starting point is 00:01:46 RIP I didn't even know the original Cyril so you're the original for me I had no idea it was a cover but you do other ones
Starting point is 00:01:55 I really love Blank Space you're done from Taylor Swift I can make the bad guys good for a weekend so it's not forever or it's gonna go down
Starting point is 00:02:04 in flames have you heard from any artists that have heard your remixes no not really honestly um yeah i've heard a from disturbed um from their management and that's why we got the uh we got the official release for the disturbed remix um which was really cool But I actually, I haven't heard from Any bands or any singers Maybe one day, maybe only 500,000 followers I really appreciate what you Do and your art and your craft
Starting point is 00:02:33 Can I ask an honest question, because When I go to, or when I did many Years ago, go to nightclubs and I'd watch DJs, they're looking very busy Very busy, twiddling buttons Are you actually doing stuff or Is it all an act to look busy and look like you're getting your money's worth from the owner of the nightclub? I think it depends on the DJ.
Starting point is 00:02:52 I do a lot of stuff, I think. You're doing a lot of knob twiddling? Yeah, but I think a lot of people just stuff around and try to look busy in the trucks just playing around. We try to look busy in this job as well. Yeah, make it look like you're doing more work. You're an Aussie, but have you managed to do any Kiwi tracks? Yeah, I'm doing a track from Lab at the moment in the air.
Starting point is 00:03:19 LAB, yeah, LAB in the air. I love that song. I don't want to upset any Kiwi, so I'm going to make sure it's good before we release it. Well, it's been lovely talking to you, but we wanted to throw one other thing at you while you're here. Now, I know you're remixing L.A.B., which is cool, but there's a New Zealand jingle for a windscreen repair place.
Starting point is 00:03:40 Actually, I wrote this back in the day. He's going to be modest, but it's quite iconic in New Zealand This jingle Not very highbrow But they still continue to use it I can remix that So if we send you that link Can we leave that in your capable hands? Oh absolutely It's not going to be a banger like stumbling in or anything like that.
Starting point is 00:04:08 Hey, he's a magician. Who knows? Might be having a conversation in three months. Mind you, do you want to be playing a song on a dance floor that says, Show us your crack? No, it might not be the best thing to do. Show us your crack, yeah. Now, bye, Sarah.
Starting point is 00:04:23 Hey, well, lovely talking to you. Congratulations on all your success. We're going to play. We're loving playing your song, yeah, now I'm a swine. Hey, well, lovely talking to you. Congratulations on all your success. We're going to play. We're loving playing your song, Megan, without a word of a lie. It's my favorite, honestly,
Starting point is 00:04:31 I love it. Thank you so much. I really appreciate it.
