Cheers to Dilma, making the world a better tea.
Crossing to New York now.
Our mate in New York, Nicole, who hosts Breakfast Radio over there.
Good morning.
Good morning to my friends.
Hey, nice to talk to you.
You're still loving the Olympics?
The USA doing very well.
Yes, man.
So good.
I'm loving it.
I'm actually like legit getting sad.
Like, I feel like this has been like
um like there's been a comfort to the olympics it's almost like like a blanket like you can
snuggle if it's like it's always there right i'm like there's nothing to watch like if you're
feeling lonely there's always some random olympic event that's on yeah i was thinking that last
night i had the tv on i was watching hammer throw i can't remember the last time i watched hammer
throw but then i was like maybe there are more events after the Olympics.
Maybe we need to get more into just like random track and field stuff.
We say this every Olympics though, and you never do.
No, you don't.
You're right.
No, I don't know the US medal tally.
Let's have a look here.
You had a look this morning, didn't you Ben?
I think you guys are on top, I think, at the moment.
86, you're beating China.
You'll be happy about that.
It's always a bit of biffo between you guys and China, isn't it? For world domination and at the moment 86 you're beating China you'll be happy about that it's always a bit of between you guys in China isn't it for world domination and at the Olympics I mean China's
definitely gonna have world domination in like life but we're dominating the Olympics I mean
have you ever seen videos of like China like children in China like they are just doing way
cooler way more advanced stuff than we ever did as a kid i do you do you see the propaganda
coming out and you're like they uh far more advanced than we will ever be and not yeah
do you have the theory about tick tock accent you boys have. Talk, talk.
Tell me about talk, talk.
If you're in China, it's not called talk, talk.
It's called something else over there.
But all they feed the kids over there are videos of children doing inspirational things,
succeeding in education, succeeding in sports or whatever.
And then over in the Western world, they've designed our algorithm just to be us
bumbling fools, dancing to 15 seconds, thrusting our palaces to 15 second songs.
That's all we get fit. Before we move on for the Olympics, a stat I'll throw at you, I read today,
an American, that's you Nicole, more likely to be struck by lightning than win an Olympic medal
in their lifetime. I mean, that sounds about right. I mean, that sounds about right.
I mean, that sounds about right.
Were you a sporty person?
Yes, I actually dove, which I love watching the Olympics.
I was a diver.
And I played lacrosse.
You guys have lacrosse in New Zealand?
Yeah, very niche sport.
But yeah, that's a cool, that's what the, you got the old.
Yeah, don't mess with me.
There was a girl that tried to mess with me.
I got kicked out of, it was one of my final games, I got
kicked out because she tripped me and
I took the lacrosse stick like a baseball bat.
My mom was so proud. I just took it right to her
head. I was like, oh my god.
Yeah.
Yeah, it was special.
Snoop Dogg, we've talked a lot about Snoop Dogg.
$500,000 a day
is the rumored amount he's getting
for being an ambassador
for NBC, right?
Literally, it's worth every penny. I think he's getting underpaid. He is an international,
I almost said national. He's an international treasure. The man, I want him to narrate my life.
I want him to do play-by-plays of everything for me because he just brings joy and smiles.
Even if you don't like him, you can't help but smile when he's announcing one of the sports.
Yeah.
I think the trick is he's always himself, isn't he?
No matter what environment he's in, he doesn't change who he is.
Yeah.
I mean, hence him and Martha Stewart are good friends.
And they legit are.
And I think when you saw them, I don't know what it's called.
What is it when the horses dance? Is it't know what it's called. What is it when like the, um, the horses like dance?
Oh, the equestrian?
Yeah.
What is that?
Jerisaj.
Jerisaj.
Is it Jerisaj or whatever?
Yes.
Yes.
And he's announcing with, with, um, Martha Stewart and everyone's like, oh, there's no,
they're like legit best.
Like they are good friends.
They go out in private and hang like they're buddies.
The most unassuming friendship ever, but it's all hits the jonathan ben podcast morning good morning to my friends
nice to talk to you we spoke yesterday but we forgot to do the thing where we teach you something
from new zealand yes some more new zealand language now here's a colloquialism that we do
regularly as we for some reason whenever you ask us a question,
so if you, for example, said, would you like a coffee?
We would go, yeah, nah.
So we say yes and no in the same response, but it means yes.
It generally means yes.
You just for some reason go, yeah, yeah, nah, yeah, nah.
It's just a weird thing that New Zealand does.
I feel like we maybe do that.
It's like, yeah, do you want this? And it's like, no, no, no, yeah, that's just a weird thing that New Zealand does. I feel like we maybe do that. It's like, yeah, do you want this?
And it's like, no, no, no, yeah, that's not the norm.
That's very weird and that would be very confusing.
And if it was like my first day as an intern on the job with you guys,
I would be very nervous to even ask what that meant.
Yeah, nah, yeah, nah.
It's just an automatic response that we do.
How come not nah, yeah?
Don't you want to end with the actual answer?
We should.
You're right.
Yes. We should. You're right. Yes.
We should.
Nah yeah.
I don't know why we do it.
Because the confusion is left with the final word that's said.
You're right.
Is this only New Zealand or is this Australia too?
I think it's pretty much a New Zealand thing.
It's a weird.
It's a lack of confidence that we have in ourselves.
We don't want to.
Right.
We don't want to put.
Yeah nah.
Yeah nah.
You figure it out.
You figure out what I want.
Yeah.
We don't want to put you out. Like if you're making a coffee, yeah we'll take one. But if you're not, don't want to put like, yeah, nah, yeah, nah, you figure it out. You figure out what I want. We don't want to put you out.
Like if you're, if you're making a coffee, yeah, we'll take one.
But if you're not, don't, yeah, nah.
Oh, so it's a respect thing.
It's like, oh, we don't want to put you out.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Okay.
Now I understand.
Okay.
I'm going to try to make that happen here.
Obviously the Olympics have been dominating a lot.
Even pop culture, as you said before.
I mean, what else is making news over there?
I mean, there's the Deadpool's out.
We've got Justin Timberlake's been in court.
Zach Efron seemed to injure himself in the pool.
What's making news over there?
Okay, the whole Zach Efron thing is very bizarre to me.
I'm not understanding what's going on with that.
I feel like they're hiding something.
Something horrible happened.
Something horrible happened.
Like if he was drinking or if he was like on something,
which I'm not saying it is,
but it's very,
it's very rare that a grown man
is found unresponsive in a pool
and it's not related to like partying,
let's say.
It just doesn't make sense to me.
So I just feel like,
yeah, maybe he had one too many.
Like they said that he smashed his like chest
on the bottom of the pool
and then breathed in some water.
Okay, he did that because he was, right?
Like there's something, they keep giving updates.
Something's sus.
Something's very, very sus to me.
He was an Ibiza.
Like you're going to have a few.
I mean.
You're going to have a few drinks.
I have a theory.
He's an Ibiza.
He's watching the Olympics.
He's inspired by the US swim team.
The diving maybe.
The diving.
Yeah.
Maybe he went for it.
He tried his hand at that
yeah he's he's battled with his demons hasn't he the poor guy yes he's definitely battled some
demons and listen again like you just said you can like it's it it's you're in a beast like you
remember mike posner's song i took a pill yeah i was cool because that's what you do in a visa
do you know we uh we were lucky enough to interview Zac Efron in Australia
and took a lovely photo.
He was gracious enough to take a photo at the end.
And then Jono got annoyed because I cropped him out of the photo.
Like, it was the three of us.
You can't do that.
You can't do that.
Your shoulder was in there.
But I was like, man, if I've got the opportunity to look like,
it's just me and Zac Efron hanging out together,
I'm going to take that all day.
Look, he could have just posted the photo,
but he went to the trouble to click edit and zoom it in.
What difference does it matter if John was there too?
Okay, but now here's the thing.
Did it look like it was just you two,
or did you see like John was a hand there,
but you cut off the rest of his body?
Yeah, you definitely saw another shoulder and another hand,
but I stand by my decision.
Oh, my God.
It was a bad print.
Our mate was probably doing a silly face too,
and I'm like, no, let's cut him out of that.
Cut the ugly one out.
The process to go through that though, Nicole.
It's not hard.
Yeah, right.
Like he literally like, talk about passion.
Passion for his picture with the beautiful Zac Efron.
To sit and crop and cut and snip and Photoshop.
Come on.
You had to drag your finger on that little square.
Nicole, it's always great to catch up
and we'll look forward to doing it again next week.
All right, I'll see you guys then.
