Starting point is 00:00:00 Give a little time for the child within you. Don't be afraid to be young and free. Undo the locks and throw away the keys and take off your shoes and sucks and run you. It's Jordan Jesse Go. I'm Jesse Thorne, the throat coat goat. Oh, Jordan Morris, boy, detective. Jordan, it's just because I got a canker sore in the back of my throat or the back of my mouth, the back of the top of my mouth and the top of my throat.
Starting point is 00:00:26 It's very uncomfortable. Sorry, pal. So you're coating. I'm coating and I always have throat coat on hand. Straight coating, bro. Absolutely. You know I love to have a coated throat. Do you even coat?
Starting point is 00:00:41 Anyway, that's why I'm the throat coat. These are memes that will absolutely catch on, by the way. That's why I'm the throat coat go. Because I always have throat coat on hand in case something goes down. And here you are, yippin and yapping for the people, when every syllable is probably like a dagger, down your throat. You know what? Not with that throat coat back there.
Starting point is 00:01:04 It's working well. I gargled with a little bit of hydrogen peroxide and then I glugged down a little bit of throat coat and now I'm feeling great. I got this fresh, clean water in case things get parched. I think by tomorrow morning this will be healed up. Then it'll just be the cold sores I have to worry about all over my face.
Starting point is 00:01:21 Sure. But that's why Instagram has filters. Yeah, exactly. I actually, now that you mention it, I feel like I made a mistake taking all those Instagram pictures with the herpes simplex filter. Right. Makes it look worse than it actually is. Yeah, it makes it look like you have a lot of open source.
Starting point is 00:01:43 Sure. You had such a good response to the one that makes you look like a Navi from Avatar. And you're like, let's keep this going. Easily the grossest start of a Jordan Jesse go that we've ever had. And it's just because throat coat, goat, sound. sounds like throat goat. It does. You're right.
Starting point is 00:02:01 That's the only reason why we're discussing STDs and their nightmarish result. I also have advanced syphilis. I should mention that. Yes, let's get it all out there. Are you tired of beginner syphilis, Jordan? Well, great news. Yeah, let's just go back and forth and confess to diseases that we have. I'm consumed my madness and my teeth are falling out.
Starting point is 00:02:25 Hi, it's me, Jesse Thorne. I'll say Bonvoy to you. I'm zooming with you from a Marriott hotel room, Bonvoy. Wow. Now here's the thing. Yeah. I feel like the last time I wished you Bonvoy, you scolded me because you only have Hilton points now. Yes.
Starting point is 00:02:47 So I am at the beautiful Oakland Marriott up here for the Cape and Cowell Convention, had a great time. and this is a case where instead of, you know, the people booking their own hotels, the convention books it for you and they're, and they're Bonvoy people. Wow. So, yeah, I'm staying in hotel and not getting points for it, and it feels fucking terrible. You know what? You know what I'm imagining right now?
Starting point is 00:03:12 This isn't getting me any closer to double diamond status, Jesse. I want to be a double D. I'm imagining you're a triple D in my heart, Jordan. Oh, thanks, man. I'm imagining them offering you the cookie and you just, giving them the double bird. I think that's only double tree. I did not get offered a cookie.
Starting point is 00:03:30 Oh, wait, only double tree offers you a cookie? I think, I think. Don't, I mean, again, this is the, this is the Bonvoyverse about which I know nothing because I'm a Hilton honors man. But I think that is the signature move of the double tree. I'm Hilton remedial. Oh, sorry, buddy. Someday you'll learn how to stay in a hotel. They found out that I put my head in the wrong part of the bed.
Starting point is 00:03:54 Sure, yeah. Well, and as soon as you get in there, you wonder where Mommy is. Hi, where's, could you page Mommy? Mommy to the white courtesy telephone, please. Mommy to the white courtesy telephone. Do you want to introduce our guests and see if they're a part of any rewards, programs that they want to endorse? Our guests are the co-hosts of the podcast, Nature Trail to Have. Hell, one of them, an accomplished comic books editor, one of them a long time comedy writer,
Starting point is 00:04:33 theme park writer, and the designer of the Jordan Jesse Go logo 20 years ago. Oh my God. Jordan D. White and Stefan Lawrence. Hi, gentlemen. Hello. Are you a part of any rewards programs that you're a fan of? I mean, I'm an advantage member. So, which used to do me...
Starting point is 00:04:54 Like Enterprise Rental Car? It's for American Airlines. Exactly. I used to be... What was above platinum? It was platinum. Yeah, it used to be... King shit.
Starting point is 00:05:06 Oh, yeah. Shit of Air Mountain. You used to be there. I used to have like this project where I was flying to Hong Kong like every four or five weeks. And I just racked up miles and status. It was great. That'll rack them. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:22 And then I, those points kind of survived and coasted through the pandemic. And now I'm just, now I'm just on gold. It's embarrassing. Like I board group three. It's disgusting. I assumed when you said that you were an advantage member that that was some sort of like. Medicare plan? It was some kind of like pan consumption club that you were in.
Starting point is 00:05:50 It's where I get all my supplements. Like they give you that at the Bohemian Grove or something like that. They're like, you get an advantage membership. Now you just get a free cookie no matter what you're doing. Well, that's because he's not pronouncing the two A's at the beginning of the advantage. It's a advantage. It's a advantage. Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 00:06:11 Advantage. Ah, advantage. Jordan, are you a member? Jordan White, are you a member of any point programs? Well, I also enjoy the advantage program through using a credit card. The advantage, through using a credit card that gets points. But I know the most recent one I joined was on the way home from Cedar Point this year, we stayed at a Red Roof Inn. And I was like, all right, I'll sign up for the silly Red Roof Inn, whatever that is.
Starting point is 00:06:38 I don't know if I'll ever stay at one again. Do you get a free trash can for your room if you stay there? Yeah, it's such high quality luxury at the Red Roof Inn. I wanted to ask because y'all host a horror movie podcast together. Are y'all also Halloween guys? Oh, Halloween, the holiday. The holiday, yes. Yeah, yeah, Halloween is a blast.
Starting point is 00:07:02 We get so many trick-or-treaters here where I live in New York area, up in Westchester. We get so many trick-or-treaters. When we move to this. We don't all go to Sleepy Hollow? Well, lots of them do, but I'm talking about like kid, kids. They, when they moved in. Tick, trick or treat and Sleepy Hollow, Stefan. Right, right.
Starting point is 00:07:20 Are you close to the actual, it's like the place where the story is set? So, yes, although I was kind of unhappy to learn that it's not really the real place in the sense that there was no actual helloasphorpha. No, I mean, which I mean, they renamed a town Sleepy Hollow. There hasn't been a Sleepy Hollow the whole time. How? He made up the name Sleepy Hollow. And it was based on this area. And so they went, well, we would like to be Sleepy Hollow.
Starting point is 00:07:50 And it probably is this area that he based it on. Not that, not long enough ago for it to be awesome. Not a classy amount of time. No, no. It came up because it was called the township of Smeg. And they're like, we can't be named after a fridge. No. Jesse, I know your kids are pretty Halloween nuts or at least have been in the past.
Starting point is 00:08:14 Have you started the Halloween planning? We're doing this like last day of August. But I did notice the Halloween shit start to go up around L.A. And I wanted to ask Jesse. This skeleton has been on my dang porch since Halloween. We're headed in, we're comfortably in September at this point. And he has a name.
Starting point is 00:08:35 I don't remember what his name is because I'm going to be frank. I don't care for it. I don't like any of the Halloween things. I mean, I like trick-or-treating, and I like other people doing creative things. But I am a grump about, like, oh, I just went to the Home Depot and bought a big thing. Do you have a 12-foot skeleton? Is that what you have? This is a standard human-sized skeleton. I mean, the, the hardest part was getting the body. Once you have the body, you know, you can buy the maggots by mail. And they claim the bones pretty effectively. It's a plastic. plastic skeleton, Stefan, but it is just a man-sized plastic skeleton. It's not one of these gigantic. But he lives on our front porch now.
Starting point is 00:09:21 Do you decorate him for other holidays? That's the real question. He wore a Santa hat for Christmas, and he's been wearing Mee Ma's hat for quite some time. And this is just like one of those wide-brimmed hiking hats, you know, just for like an older person that doesn't want to get skin cancer. Sure. That's good. the skeletons trying to get out more. You got to get out and move around, you know.
Starting point is 00:09:47 Motion is the best lotion. That's what I always say. Sure. Yes. Sitting is the new smoking. That's a great point, Jordan. Thank you. In Minecraft, skeletons burn catch on fire in the sun if they're not wearing a helmet. So it makes sense to wear a hat. That's how that works. That's how it works. It's science. Based on fact. I know the Halloween costume panicking has already started in our house. and like, oh my God, we have to decide what we're going to be. Katie Bell, who is my oldest, who is 17, want something niche, but not too niche, so that it can be recognized,
Starting point is 00:10:21 but she can still be, like, noticed for having great specific taste. So, like, she needs it to be something real specific, and she has not been able to settle on it. Your problem, Stefan, is that you run a creative house, household. And it's so important, it's so important to beat the creative dreams out of your children. I mean, not by, through abuse, shame and diversion and just an overall like a commitment to just watching sports on television instead. Yes and, right? Both can be true. They, then they don't get involved in the whole like, oh, I need to make something. I need to be different. I
Starting point is 00:11:08 need to, Stefan, you had a theme wedding. We sort of had a theme. We had a theme. Our theme wedding was. If you could call Simbad's voyage a theme. I mean, exactly. Looking at the pictures recently, it very much feels like 20, early, like 2008 Brooklyn hipster wedding with like a bluegrass band and there are mason jars with flowers in them.
Starting point is 00:11:35 And, you know, barbecue. but yes the theme enough Ellis is for Halloween wants to be a Pringle tingle if you're familiar with the character
Starting point is 00:11:47 tingle from the legend of Zelda So it says This is an elf That people are annoyed by Right He's a weirdo He's like
Starting point is 00:11:55 Maybe Miss Christian is nodding Our producer Christian is like Yeah that's the guy It's the closest You get to like a purve In Zelda Where it's just like Here's a weird
Starting point is 00:12:04 Like pervy old dude Is with like strange makeup. Anyway, he is, he is funny. Oh, I know this weird guy. He goes like, ooh, yeah, yes, exactly. And so Ellis wants to be... And he wears a clock around his neck like Flav a Flav. You may know more about this than I do. Uh, but Ellis wants to be a pringle can, but also dressed up as tingle. Shit, that's solid. How are you saying this like you're annoyed by it? This is a great idea. You have a wonderful wife. At some point. What are you doing podcasting?
Starting point is 00:12:38 Tell her you love her. At some point, it's going to fall to us to figure out how to make a pringle tingle, to be honest. Yeah. Yeah, I mean, the question is how do those two things combine. I mean, I understand how they combine words-wise using rhyme. But how do they combine functionally? Like, is it a pringle can where instead of the Pringle man, it's tingle from Zelda? I think it's tingle from Zelda wearing a Pringle costume.
Starting point is 00:13:08 And theoretically, I think you can buy a Pringle Tin costume. So we'll see. Why aren't there more Halloween costumes that are one costume wearing a costume of something else? Like a grimace, but wearing one of those inflatable dinosaurs? For one year for Halloween, I was a pirate Halloween costume. I made like a giant plastic bag and filled it with fabric. and then I had a like a little like Spirit Halloween, like pirate costume thing with my face on it dressed up as a pirate. And I was a Halloween costume.
Starting point is 00:13:46 Does your family Stefan craft together? Do you do any crafting together? We craft separately. Okay. We craft in our individual cubby holes away from each other. I mean, I was just looking in, I was just clearing out my freezer and found a, what's that called an ouchy bunny? Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. Is that what it's called?
Starting point is 00:14:08 A boo-boo bunny. That biz, Stefan's wife and the host of the podcast that my wife used to be a co-host of, one bad mother, or the former host of the podcast that for a time my wife was the co-host of, one bad mother, that she made. So I know that she sews and puts beans in things. Yes, and she does a lot of diaramas with UFOs. We live about like two blocks away from a creative thrift store called Remainders here in Pasadena where you can just buy weird stuff for a dollar and that is a lot of what she does.
Starting point is 00:14:47 So there's so many... This is like you fill a bag with egg cartons and old magazines and... Sort of, but it's also like plastic babies and dollheads and like old postcards from like Romania and like just whatever it is. This is a store for things that could be haunted. I mean, we use it for Halloween. This sounds like a very dangerous store. I would stay away from this store. It's probably wise, but it's also lovely.
Starting point is 00:15:13 And it's just like a bunch of craft weirdos that go and shop there. I got like three garbage bags worth of like pot holders to make a Ketulu one year. You know, you can just get it whatever you need. And a painting that keeps getting younger. That was a dollar. Yeah. Jordan White, do you guys go big either costume-wise or decorate? separation-wise?
Starting point is 00:15:36 Typically, I just will be lazy and have something really easy that I wear, like a Chewbacca onesie or something, and I'll give out candy while my wife takes my son out trick-or-treating. But I was thinking this year, since this is the first year that I have like a foot-long white-pointed beard that I might become a gnome. Oh. Oh, I thought you were going to say like a mephistophiles or something. Oh. An Anton LeVe.
Starting point is 00:16:04 Everybody will get it. I hope that this, I don't intend this to be rude or flip, but I kind of Jordan White could see you in like a red body suit dancing around and going like, ooh, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, with little horns. I can pull it off. Or like a tingle. You could be a tingle. Like a red tingle. I wish I knew tingle.
Starting point is 00:16:28 I don't. Evil tingle. All right. I'm going to Google evil tingle and see. Right. see if there's an evil tingle. costume. Tingle is like a malevolent flavor of flave, if that helps at all.
Starting point is 00:16:38 Okay. So I'll just get a Flav of Flav costume. Oh, he's very, he's very weird looking. Yes, he is. I was mentioning this. I did, you know, the Halloween stuff in L.A. goes up early, and I did see my first 12-foot home depot skeleton, and he had a skeleton horse with him, and I'm just like, this is just, it's an arms race with these guys.
Starting point is 00:17:00 Like, sized proportionately? Yes, like a horse he could have ridden. So the horse was also bigger than a normal horse. Wow. I feel like these Home Depot skeletons collaborate with ice. Oh, yeah. Wow. What's your theory on that?
Starting point is 00:17:13 Like they're transmitters. I mean, they're from Home Depot for one thing. Okay. So we know we can't trust those fuckers. Right. And also you can't trust skeletons in general, no matter what size they are, but certainly not of their double size.
Starting point is 00:17:25 So A-Skab, all skeletons are masters? I mean, we all have skeletons inside of us, so we all can't be trusted by that logic. We all have a little snitch inside us And I happen to know that all of you have skeletons in your closet So don't cross me Jesse you never You said you'd never confess what happened when we were both drunk driving
Starting point is 00:17:48 Jordan White you're at the same time At the same time in cars next to each other Oh nice So we don't know who hit the guy It was one of us it was one of us but we don't know which one So we're just and oh boy I'd done it Jordan White, you're a comics editor. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:05 Do you make things in your life? I mean, this is a creative career, so maybe you just sit around and eat cookies the rest of the time so you don't have to make things. But do you, is there anything that you're getting out the craft supplies for? Oh, like for actual crafting. I used to do a lot more creative stuff before I had a kid. And having a kid is now the creative thing I do. But I was much more into like music and and podcasting. I used to do radio serials before I was a comic book editor.
Starting point is 00:18:37 And I used to do, I have like a zillion ukulele videos on YouTube. All of Jordan White's out of office emails have a wonderful ukulele cover attached to them. I always enjoy getting them. It's very weird because if you don't count conventions being at a comic book convention, I've been recognized way, way, way more as a ukulele person on YouTube than I have as my comic book job. You know, YouTube, do they call it that? YouTube. The only time I've ever been to Disneyland, I was there with a handful of comic book creators
Starting point is 00:19:12 who are all more famous in the comic book community, and I got recognized for my no-fx covers. And Jordan White, I presume that you met Stefan at Stefan's 2008 Brooklyn Wedding, where you were the ukuleist? I wish that were so. I met Stefan because I was a fan of his sketch group, Elephant Larry. And I knew them through Alex Salbin, who does comic book club. And so that's the real way I got into Stefan's orbit. Although, because I've told Stefan this before, because I knew Stefan as a performer first,
Starting point is 00:19:50 there's a part of me that always feels like I'm doing this podcast with a famous person. You know, world famous Elephant Larry. I mean, I'll tell you this, Elephant Larry. Two weeks ago, I was, it sounds like Jesse were both to reminisce about an Elephant Larry sketch we like. Yeah, I, I, yeah, I, yeah, and I'll do mine. Two weeks ago, I probably spent five minutes trying to explain to my daughter the song, Living on a Prayer. So that I could then explain to her the elephant Larry sketch sitting on a bear, which went, oh, I'm really scared. Oh, skating on a bear.
Starting point is 00:20:35 It's a really dumb sketch, but I hope it was worth the shoe leather to get there. Jesse, that's the exact one I was going to bring up. I was just also going to try and describe sitting on a bear. And I started telling her about the dance number they used to do called four cool guys ready to rock you. They choreographed it out, Grace. And Stefan, do you remember Biz, Cherise, Mom's co-host, her husband, Stefan, was, and they all did a dance together. And they sang this song that went four cool guys and were ready to rock you. I love the, what is it called?
Starting point is 00:21:18 The one about how relish is made. I just love that one so much. It's the best sketch. It's the best video in the world. I've shown it to so many people, and they all are horrified, and I love it every time. It's just them putting pickles and vinegar. It's all in their mouths and chewing on it and then spitting it back out into buckets. And then Gioff and I made tartar sauce.
Starting point is 00:21:44 Yep. He takes a bunch of oil and eggs in his mouth, and I have a bunch of, like, relish and then we make out. No, you had oil and eggs. Is that what it was? Yeah. I know that because you're making mayonnaise and this is the stupidest thing in the world, but that video is what convinced me that I don't hate mayonnaise because I always hated
Starting point is 00:22:04 mayonnaise. And then you were like, it's just eggs and vinegar. And I was like, oh, or eggs and oil. And I was like, oh, that's all it is? It's essential components. Right. It's totally cool. That's fine.
Starting point is 00:22:15 That's not a big deal. And now you're a mayo fan? No, I don't love. it, but now I will eat it. Okay. Stefan, I guess my question for you is, with heat like this, how come you're not making mobisodes anymore? For a while, God, I love mobosodes, Stefan.
Starting point is 00:22:34 Oh, my God, please define a mobosode for me. Well, that's like, that's an online video that is perfect for consuming on your portable device. Is it like a quibby? Yeah, that could be a quibby. Or like a vertical drama? Is that what it is? Yeah, it could be a vertical drama, yeah. Oh, yeah, I really should be spending more time doing that.
Starting point is 00:22:57 Yeah. Yeah. Unfortunately, me and Alex hate each other now, so we can't, yeah, sorry. I understand. We hate Alex, too. Don't worry, stuff. Sorry, Alex, all, man. That's great. The premise of y'all's podcast, right, is that Jordan White, you're a horror movie nut and Stefan, you're a scaredy cat? Yes, though we had a revelation That was my, that was the original stated premise.
Starting point is 00:23:25 It remains the stated premise is that I was basically, like I had a huge gap in my horror movie watching. Like I had seen some famous ones along the way. But generally, I think I got VHS covers, I think as a kid scared the crap out of me. Sure. Like just like I remember. That's like the great story of our generation is being scared by the cover of goolies. Oh, yeah. The toilet
Starting point is 00:23:50 The puppets that come out of the toilet. Yeah, exactly. Which I regularly get confused with the Metallica Metal Up Your Ass T-shirt. If I'm familiar with that one. But I remember, like, sleepaway camp, there's that knife through the shoe, like, on the cover of the VHA. Anyway, so, like, it kind of got in my head, and I was like, oh, these are. You were worried that someone might stab your shoes while you're sleeping. The worst.
Starting point is 00:24:13 But, like, so this is this kind of got in my head, and so I basically sort of, like, kind of grew up almost without horror. movies. And so, yeah, so I've seen basically none of them. And this came about because like, Jordan, you were looking for an excuse to talk about Friday the 13th. Yeah, I just love Friday the 13th. The whole, the whole franchise and I just wanted a reason to talk about it. And so. And I'd never seen any of them. Like, not a single one. And you were scared to see them. And I remember. I was like super nervous. You were nervous. And then it's, it's, I don't had a weird breakdown about like four seasons in where I'm like, I don't know if I'm actually scared of horror movies or scared of watching things on screen, but it's still like super, I like, I love
Starting point is 00:25:01 them now. Like I think like now they sort of like, we watch enough of them. And now it's just sort of like I'm interested in like seeing all these things that because it's like runs of whole movies that I've never seen. Right. I didn't seem like there's like 12 Friday the 13th movies and didn't see any of them. I'd never seen any of the Saw movies or any of those. And so it was cool to sort of be like, oh, okay, these are the things that people have been watching now over like 30 years and how they change over 30 years.
Starting point is 00:25:28 And it's weird. Jesse is the, as a formally not horror guy who has a horror kid, how brave do you feel like you've gotten in 2026 to watch horror stuff? I'm still not very brave. I made my wife who is actually more chicken than me, but, loves our children more than I do. Watch the horror movies that I was scared to watch with Grace. And also the ones that I thought I would find boring. Like I, there was a period where she was really into like the most misbegotten sequels of things and stuff like that.
Starting point is 00:26:08 Like I would, I told her like, if you want to watch The Exorcist with me, I will totally watch The Exorcist. Like, I've never seen The Exorcist. and it's, I bet it's really scary and I'll be scared, but I'll be into watching it. And she was like, no, no, no, no, no. I want you to watch Chopping Mall with me. I love Chopping Mall. Jaws 4. I adore Chopping Mall.
Starting point is 00:26:32 And she also, I mean, we were, we briefly discussed this before we started the show, but she did not like, she actively disliked Jaws. Wow. And I had never watched Jaws as a kid or a young person, because I was scared to watch horror movies and everyone always talked about how scary Jaws was. And I watched Jaws in probably the single scariest sort of most sensorally overwhelming way you possibly could, which is on my Microsoft surface on an airplane. Everybody agrees. And I was like, oh, this movie isn't scary to me, but it does kick ass.
Starting point is 00:27:08 I am enjoying it as a movie where people from the 70s talk to each other. Yep. And I loved it so much. And so I was like, wait, what? The place where we, I think we met taste-wise, was I took her to a screening of the David Eggers Nosferatu. Robert Eggers? Thank you. No, David Eggers is also a heartbreaking work of staggering Nospiratu.
Starting point is 00:27:42 Thank you. The Robert Eggers Nosferatu, which I think hit it hit her like horror interests and my interest in watching a real movie pretty squarely. Because I'm just not super into, there's not really any areas of camp that I'm very excited about other than like Pee Wee's Big Adventure.
Starting point is 00:28:10 Yeah, there's a lot of like when you, get into the sequels of things, there's a lot of variability and quality, especially when you have, when you were running through entire series. And so like it's, I mean, a lot of things like, yeah, I bet, because the stuff you guys do, it gets into the sixes and sevens, right? Like, when you're hitting six and seven of something. Talking about six, seven? I am now. What does that mean? It means it's a busing, uh, uh, busing, uh, glazed up. glazed out. You're chopped now, Staffing.
Starting point is 00:28:46 I'm chopped. Unk. That's something. Yeah, there we are. Is there anything that stays good into the six and the sevens? Well, to me, that's the fun of it is the length of the series because we're not talking about anything where there was a plan. And so the fun is seeing. There's a lot of things where they pretend to have a plan.
Starting point is 00:29:08 Yeah. The fun is in seeing how they make sequels to these. things and how they have to go. Now we have to do another one. Okay. How are we going to do another one of these? I mean, and again, the Friday the 13th ones are great. They were making one a year with no plan. And that started right at the beginning. And you can tell because I'm going to spoil Friday the 13th part one right now. It's in a way that's been spoiled many times by many people, but I'm going to do it again. Friday the 13th, part one, the killer is Mrs. Voorhees, Jason's mom. And the reason she's killing people is because her son Jason is dead having drowned.
Starting point is 00:29:42 And then they went, we're going to make a sequel. And they went, how do we make a sequel? What about if the kid is not dead and he's alive and he starts killing people because his mom got killed? What? That makes no sense. They immediately off the bat have to do the dumbest possible thing. And it makes an iconic franchise that we all know today because Jason became the killer. But they had to do that from day one.
Starting point is 00:30:08 It's the same reason I like the Fast and the Furious movies because it was such a simple film. and now they are the most convoluted espionage. People are coming up back from the dead and going to space. Before it was a movie about stealing DVD players. It was. And like just like Friday of the 13th, Fast and Tears doesn't figure out what it is until like movie four. Yep.
Starting point is 00:30:30 Friday the 13th, the final chapter, like the fourth one, I think is the one where they're like, oh, this is what this is. Like that's where it clicks in. And so like it's like weird and exploratory and they're trying to get it.
Starting point is 00:30:41 Like I think, is the first one where I was like, oh, yeah, that was really good. This is what I want to know, because both of you, Jordan White and Stefan Lawrence, have careers that require you to take on a similar challenge. So, like, Jordan, you get the, you're editing Marvel comic books, so you're getting handed a 700-page stack of rules and things that have already happened that you have to expect. explain. And then Stefan, when you are writing in the past for, for theme parks, you have to explain why Snoopy would ride a roller coaster using, using seven jokes that happen at five minute intervals while people are
Starting point is 00:31:28 standing in line. I mean, I know whose job I think sounds harder to me. So I think we can all agree. That's right. The jobs of single mothers. Let's give it up for them, fellas. And you know what else? They're the real comedy writers. Thank you. Can I say this? Because this is something that we haven't said enough times on this show, Jordan. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:31:49 But thank you to phlebotomists. Because phlebotomists are out there every single day, drawing our blood so they can be lab tested, tapping on our arms, doing that flicking thing, tying a rubber thing. And I just so admire the work they do. Me too. I agree. What is Stefan and Jordan? What is a narrative problem that you have had to solve in your respective careers?
Starting point is 00:32:19 Working backwards. Why are the Smurfs having their birthday party interrupted? Gargamel, right? Am I crazy? Can we all go to lunch? No, you're right. You're right. In fact, it is gargamel.
Starting point is 00:32:36 Okay. I had to try to make sense, or at least help, try to make sense. of Deadpool's past, which has many conflicting, conflicting stories. One of the things that we try to do in Marvel is we talk about, a lot of fans love to talk about continuity, but we like to say continuity is less important than consistency. The story feeling right and the characters feeling consistent and feeling like, oh, that's the same character. That's the most important thing.
Starting point is 00:33:08 More important than somebody being able to go. Oh, well, he said he's never played basketball before, but there was a comic where he played basketball, something like that. Like, that doesn't matter. But in Deadpool's origins, there were literally, there's a version where it said he's from Canada, and there's a version that said he was from Ohio. And we were like, Ohio, Canada. He's just making one of his famous jokes. Sure, he was. That guy loves to joke around if there's anything I know about Deadpool.
Starting point is 00:33:37 Yeah. I mean, that's the thing, is that when you have. a story that's been going on that long, you're right. It is almost impossible to do anything if you get hung up on it. You have to, you have to like, you have to have fun with it. You know what? It was Deadpool's mom who was doing the quips all the way. Sure. In the first Deadpool and then later on. Jordan and I are working on something together. And I, I remember one of the best notes. I asked you if the Hulk could make an appearance. You said he can't, he's in hell.
Starting point is 00:34:17 Not right now. Not currently. Yeah. I remember like one of my first jobs in theme parks was I went to work for this company and they were just like had just not written any scripts for like then they had like a deadline in three weeks. And they just handed me a stack of this is a seven minute ride about Hotel Transylvania. write it. This is a show called Alvin and the Chipmunks, Chip Rattle and Roll.
Starting point is 00:34:47 Do whatever you want. Wait, like a stage show? Sure? They didn't tell me. It was just like they handed me a series of like IPs and like what kind of a show it was. And then they just locked me in the conference room and just had me crank out scripts for three weeks.
Starting point is 00:35:07 And were they then produced? Did they sell that me? No, no, no, no, no, no. No, but they made their deadline. So I can't see Chip Rattle and Roll? If you would like, I can give you the script, and we can do a live reading of Chip Rattle and Roll. I call Dave.
Starting point is 00:35:22 The Rock and Roll Chipmunk stage show, which, Dave, he gets locked in the audio booth. Oh, no. And now we're going to get him out with the power of rock and roll. Good golly, Miss Molly. Oh, you are not wrong. The Chip Batso also have a song. No, I have since found out that's not usually.
Starting point is 00:35:40 how it's supposed to work. Oh. But that was one of my first assignment. It was like, okay, well, what is Shrek doing now? I have to say, I watched all four Shrek movies in one day, which I do not recommend. Yeah. That's a lot of Shrek, baby. You'll get Shrek poisoning.
Starting point is 00:35:58 That's really funny because I literally was thinking about doing that. Watching all four Shrek, do you have a birthday coming up? No, but he wants to get his wife pregnant. I will. I'll do birthday movie marathon. and I was trying to think of one that my son could also watch. Does your son have an interest in Shrek? Is he, that tender Shrek age?
Starting point is 00:36:20 He's seen the first two and he seemed to enjoy them. So she's eight. Yeah. Like he, well, he, he enjoyed them. He had stink lines coming off of him, which indicated how much he loved it. He's an age where he knows it's time to prick the bubble of those pretty. attentionious fucking Disney fairy tales, okay? We do things a little different in Shrek town.
Starting point is 00:36:50 It's pretty irreverent. Yeah, these guys are so irreverent. I mean, that's why they employ the music of Smashmouth, the ultimate in your face, punk rockers. Sure. Those guys don't care about shit. You guys want to take a little break. We'll poke a hole in the crimson facade of this.
Starting point is 00:37:10 Disney fairy tales. That's what it's called, right, a crimson facade. Can we take a medium-sized break so I can watch all four Shrecks? Yeah, sure. Throw in, throw in the Puss and Boots. They're all part of the continuity. The Puss and Boots, the second Puss and Boots is the only good Shrek movie. Wow. Is that the one where he's bad, where he's dealing with his own mortality? I think so. Right. Yeah, that movie ruled. Stock by a grim reaper wolf of some sort. Yeah, that movie was really good. I really like that movie. And I hate Shrek. Okay, we'll be back in just a second on Jordan Jesse Go. It's Jordan Jesse Go. I'm Jesse Thorne America's Radio Sweetheart.
Starting point is 00:37:59 Jordan Morris, boy detective. First of all, Jordan, thank you to the members of Maximum Fun who make Jordan Jesse Go possible. Just go to maximum fun.org slash join JJ Go. You can check out our new show, TBW to be watched. The newest TBW, Jordan? my choice, I have never seen Goldfinger. In fact, Jordan, it occurred to me. I tried to think, I don't think I have ever seen
Starting point is 00:38:26 any of the James Bond movies before Pierce Brosnan. Really? I don't think I'd even seen one of them. Okay, wow, all right, great. This is going to be a fun episode. We've been doing a lot of fun episodes in this series, the one up right now. We watch Star Trek 3 with professional Star Trek podcaster,
Starting point is 00:38:46 Andy Secunda, who make sure we don't get too much stuff wrong. And comedy writing. And comedy writing. We should also say, is a professional comedy writer. Worked on coding, you know, but also does a Star Trek podcast. So he, you know, helped us out there. Something fun about joining Max Fun, Jesse, is you don't just get our bonus episodes. You get all the bonus episodes from like across the network. So, you know, Bullseye, Hodgman. We've been doing TV pilots on free with ads. And we actually, a little piece of connection here. We watched the TV pilot of Star Trek Strange New Worlds for our bonus episode. And it was kind of a funny combo because I'm a new, I'm like a new Star Trek fan kind of.
Starting point is 00:39:27 I got into it via Strange New Worlds. Matt, our producer and co-host, he is a I hate Star Trek guy. And our other co-host, Emily, she has a complicated erotic relationship to Star Trek. As she does with all things. Right. All media properties. So that was a really, really fun. And I'll say far-reaching discussion.
Starting point is 00:39:55 Uh-huh. And again, yeah, if you sign up for it to be a maximum member, you get our bonus apps and the other ones, maximum fund.org. Let's join. Jordan, whether you're a member or not, October 4th is MaxFund Meetup Day. That's right. You just go to maximum fund.org. You'll see whether there's a meetup day where you live. You can even host a meetup day if you want to.
Starting point is 00:40:20 And I have decided, I haven't done this in a long time, but I've decided since I am new to the East Bay, to the Berkeley area, I am going to host a MaxFund Meetup Day in Alameda at Faction Brewing, where Cape and Cowlcon is. Ooh, great brewery. Great brewery. So on October 4th from 4 to 6,
Starting point is 00:40:41 I will just be hanging out there, come make a new friend, look for the guy that looks like me, and then ask him, are you Jesse? Because I'm going to guess that 60% of the guys there look like me. I'm just guessing. You'll find Jesse eventually. Yeah. The fifth or sixth guy will probably be Jesse. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:05 I'll be there. I'll be hanging out. Maybe dogs are allowed. I don't know. Maybe I'll bring my dog. Gotta be, gotta be. Hey Jesse, today's guest, Jordan D. White and I did a project together. It is out this week.
Starting point is 00:41:20 It is a Marvel Comics miniseries called The Amazing Venom. I wrote it. Jordan D. White edited it. Luke Ross did the art. It is a fun, crazy road trip romp through the Marvel Universe. I hope folks get it. I'm really proud of it. It's got a little bit of a different flavor than your typical Marvel comics.
Starting point is 00:41:39 so I hope folks get on board. Jordan, you know. Jordan, I'm not sure I can enjoy this comic book because I'm a jock. I only like sports. Sure. Well, you'll be glad to know that the main character, Boomerang, used to be a baseball player, and he will mention it sometimes. He will mention it a few times.
Starting point is 00:42:02 Thank God. There are also, you know, with all, and some of this has kind of, you know, been out there from the preview, so I don't think I'm sort of. spoiling it. We do have some kind of big cameos. And I'm kind of doing a last push here because it's out this week. So I do want to mention a few of the cameos. We got some fantastic four members. Jaliel White. Jaliel White as Stefan Urkel, not Stephen Urkel. We got a fantastic four member. We got a guardian. We got some Avengers. But breaking news. I don't know. I don't know if Marvel and the House of Mouse is going to like me revealing. Wait, you got a guardian? We got a
Starting point is 00:42:38 Guardian. Stephen Kwan, left fielder for the Cleveland Guardian. We do. I only like sports. I know. I'm here to reveal maybe the most exciting cameo. I can't believe that we got this guy. Okay.
Starting point is 00:42:53 A certain mental organism designed only for killing. That's right, baby. Giant head guy Modoc will be making an appearance in the amazing venom. That's right. Modoc stands for mental organism designed only for killing I'm more of a ROM guy but whatever
Starting point is 00:43:14 Oh you like ROM Yeah I don't know I've only seen the cover of a ROM comic book It looked cool Honestly great cover I went to the comic book store In Oakland I bought
Starting point is 00:43:24 Concrete Concrete is a rock guy Who's sad a lot And he wandered out into the desert And he got He got covered in the sand That's true He was so busy thinking about this speech he had to give.
Starting point is 00:43:40 Listen, a lot of great comic books out there. It's a lot of fun stuff in the world. So your one is like a road adventure with an alien symbiote and a guy who throws boomerangs. And then I read this one about this guy who has an upcoming speaking engagement. Listen, comics can be about a few different things. Those things plus thick-legged women, right? Thick, like, yeah, sure. Our crumb proved to us that commas didn't just have to be about superheroes.
Starting point is 00:44:11 They could also be weirdly horny about thick-legged women. So there you go. It's amazing venom. Please go get it. And hey, Jordan, before we go, we had a listener name Israel, who made a really generous contribution to maximum fun and mentioned what Jordan Nessie Go meant to them. And so we just wanted to give a quick shout-out to Israel.
Starting point is 00:44:35 before we take a break, because thank you. Thank you, thank you. Thank you to Israel and thank you to all the Max Fund members. We love you. We'll be back in just a second on Jordan Jesse Go. La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La It's Radio Sweetheart. Jordan Morris Boy Detective
Starting point is 00:45:04 I'm Jordan D. White, alien symbiote wrangler. And I am Stefan Lawrence Bounty Hunter. Is this about how Boomerang, the baseball pitcher, has got his own alien symbiote now thanks to Jordan Morris? Yeah, it's related, yeah. It's a group effort. Yeah. There's a lot of, listen, a lot of symbiots out there. Yeah, I have a lot of symbiotes I have to wrangle.
Starting point is 00:45:27 That's the thing. Yeah. I didn't know that Boomerang, the superhero. Did you tell me that he was a former baseball pitcher? I mean, I think he's, I think superhero is probably incorrect. He's mostly been a villain, but it will occasionally, you know, occasionally do the right thing. But, yes, he has, I think he's always been a base though from the first appearance. He was a former baseball pitcher who kind of went bad.
Starting point is 00:45:51 He turns to boomerangs. Wait, boomerang, is he in the Daredevil universe? Spider. Who am I thinking of? I'm thinking of Bullseye. I'm thinking of bullseye. With Jesse Thorne, that's a fun connection. And it all comes around.
Starting point is 00:46:04 All comes around. I think we just got ourselves a PBS show, Jordan. What happens on that show? We make connections. Oh, yeah. We figure out if Yan could cook. The villain bullseye from Daredevil was originally called The Sound of Young America, though. Oh, there you go.
Starting point is 00:46:23 Yeah, yeah, yeah. Sure. That's a good point. In the golden age comics. In the original, okay, Jordan White and Jordan Morris, I'm sure you guys did spend a lot of time with boomerang. The Spider-Man bad guy, the second-tier, third-tier Spider-Man bad guy. So, there's a question about how boomerangs work? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:46:43 I guess my question is, why doesn't he throw baseballs? They don't come back. Or why didn't he used to be a boomerang thrower? And he's not even Australian. Is that so? I don't think so. I heard that in some versions he's from Ohio and in some version. And this is not the Eddie Murphy movie movie.
Starting point is 00:47:04 No, not related. The movie does not enter into it. I think boomerang is a better weapon. Yeah, as you mentioned, it comes back. And, you know, you could do lots of specialty boomerangs. I guess you could do specialty baseballs that have, like, electricity properties or something. Like trick baseballs? Boomerang is more surface area, you know?
Starting point is 00:47:23 There's a guy who's, like, called, like, sports court or something. And he looks like all the guys from the All-Stars Saturday morning cartoon with Bo Jackson and King Gry Jr. you're all merged into one, right? Like he's like holding a hockey stick and he can do any sports thing? Yes. Sportsmaster? Sportsmaster. Sports master.
Starting point is 00:47:43 Is that a real thing? That's a real supervillain. I love it. That's great. It's a really good idea. Stefan, do you want to guess what his superpower is? Is it betting on sports? Like making a lot of money on sports better?
Starting point is 00:47:57 He can create a fan duel account. He is a draft king. The draft king. Yes. Yeah. And he's going to be great, played by Timothy Chalemy just beautifully. Sorry. Does Boomerang have an origin story?
Starting point is 00:48:12 I guess he, I think he was born in Australia, but he was raised in America. So he doesn't have an Australian accent is what I was working. I think there are in the Boomerang comics I have read in my life and for research for this project. There are some where they do give him an Australian accent, but that has not been for a while. He'll say mate and, you know. He could be Graham Lloyd. Liam Hendricks. These are Australian
Starting point is 00:48:35 Dave Nilsson. These are Australian Major League baseball players. I think it's probably who he was based on. Probably based on
Starting point is 00:48:43 Graham Lloyd or Liam Hendricks. Yeah, all those guys. When he throws a pitch, does he swear himself really loud? That's what
Starting point is 00:48:50 Liam Hendricks used to do. And then he got testicular cancer and then he said good things about gay people, which was like one of four baseball players
Starting point is 00:49:00 because of his testicular cancer? No, No, no, no. They just happened in sequence. Oh, okay. He was supportive of the LGBTQ plus community, vocally supportive. That's nice. Sounds like he's the real hero.
Starting point is 00:49:13 Not Ned Kelly. Or Sportsmaster. Yeah. When something momentous happens to you, give us a call at 206-9844 Fun or record a voice memo and send it to JJGo at maximum fun.org. An example of someone who has done that is this person. Hey, Jordan. Hey, Jesse. a esteemed guest, this is Mike from Chicago.
Starting point is 00:49:37 I'm calling for a momentous occasion, and so that's a little bit more of sacking up with something that I've been doing for about 10 years. I'm an interest teacher, and occasionally I need sample student work or model student work to show up to other students. So I've been using fake students by the name of Chip Dipson and Dipson.
Starting point is 00:49:59 And there's a whole generation of students out there that think that these are real students that I've had in my classroom. And occasionally I need a third one, and so I've made up the name Chet Chipperson, and I tell them they're triplets and best friends. So I called for them this occasion, and also they kind of fets up to using your intellectual property for so long. Thank you very much. Love the show.
Starting point is 00:50:21 No, this is something that we have given to the world, I would say. Initially, we gave it to Rob Cordry. He failed us. And then since then, we've done. given it to the world. So Rob said he was going to put it into Children's Hospital, his very funny television show. He did not. Why? Because he's one of the greatest monsters in the history of comedy. He's not. He's a very nice guy. Don't even try and think of a worse one. Don't even try. And so we have now shared it with
Starting point is 00:50:56 the world. So I think if you're putting it into your English class, I think that's wonderful. The one thing is, um, it does have one of those like, uh, no bots things or something. You cannot put it into your AI. We will sue you if you feed Claude Chip Dipson and Dipson. And we'll be able to tell. We don't need Grock making them racist. Or nude. Or new.
Starting point is 00:51:23 Yeah. Yeah, Grock will do that. Oh, Grock will do that. I could just have a sexy Chip Dobson to talk to. Chip Dipson Stephson Oh man Wow
Starting point is 00:51:36 Wow So wait I Maybe I missed this part of the call Why is this teacher Creating false students To use as example For example work Like here's what you're gonna do
Starting point is 00:51:46 Here's chip dipson's paper So you could see what I'm looking for Not just to commit fraud No I was concerned about that You're trying to get more funding somehow I've created a whole bunch of Like a whole class of fake students
Starting point is 00:51:59 That I teach I want to say this. Like, if you're out there, you're a teacher and using Chip Dipson and Dipson for fraud would benefit your classroom and it's funding, we support that. Right. Like, that's our, you know, our friend W. Camel Bell went on Celebrity Jeopardy and won and gave all the money to donors choose. Our version of that is that you can use Chip Dipson and Dipson for frauds. And who's the most generous here, right? I mean, yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 00:52:30 Exactly. We weren't invited on Celebrity Jeopardy. Does supporting it vocally on a podcast make you an accessory, or does that, is that not enough? I don't think anyone can go to jail for a podcast. Oh, yeah. I mean, if they, if you can, there's a long line of guys going to jail before us. We'll notice it happening. And then get to move to Havana. I guess it's sort of a question that I would ask if I was trying to answer your question, Jordan White is. it's kind of a philosophical question, but for us to go to jail for something we've said on our podcast, does someone have to listen to our podcast?
Starting point is 00:53:14 It's the Zen Cohen. That's essentially what's happening in the Tupac Shakur trial, right? The guy, like, you know, recorded himself saying, I 100% planned and planned to murder Tupac. Shakur. I almost feel weird saying this, but we did also murder Tupac Shakur. Oh, so it's really up for grabs. Jesse and I were pretty thug driving at the same time. Both doing one of our classic drunk drive next to each other outing. You kill Tupac and then I'll kill Tupac. See, but now you've blown it because now they're going to play this episode of the podcast in that trial to make that guy get off
Starting point is 00:53:55 and then they'll find out about the fraud. But maybe some of the jury. will subscribe. Oh, good point. I like this vibe here. And you know what? I'm not going to say that just because that guy wants to use our podcast to get off means he can't listen to it. If that's what it takes for you to get off, listen to Jordan Jesse go, it's fine.
Starting point is 00:54:17 You can do with it what you need to do with it, okay? Especially if you're trying to get your wife pregnant as Jordan White is. I mean, I'm assuming you get calls like that too. Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely. Most of them are just about people who've achieved orgasm by listening to our voices. It's that and then I saw a funny license plate, which might some people be sexual.
Starting point is 00:54:40 Yeah. And is definitely a segment from Stop Podcasting Yourself, not our show, that people then forget is actually a stop podcasting yourself thing, not a Jordan Jesse Goh thing. Let's take another call, Christian. Hey, Jordan, Jesse, and I also guest Blair Erskine. I am calling in for your special segment about how wet one is. I work in the out of doors, you know, water science, and today I fell out of a canoe. And so I am all wet saturated.
Starting point is 00:55:14 Love you guys. Bye. My concern here is that I'm pretty confident that water science is not a field of science. Yeah. So this guy's a liar is what you're saying? I mean, I don't like how he made it. sexual, by the way. I thought that was out of line. Well, we're trying to keep this show clean.
Starting point is 00:55:32 Thank you. I know. Thank you. Geez, this guy calling in with a suggestive lilt in his voice. I mean, Jordan wants to listen to four episodes of this show in a row for his son's birthday. Yeah, yeah. It's a marathon. Because of how clean it is, right? Just because of how clean it is. Right. Although, to be fair, this collar probably is pretty clean now that he fell into that water out of his canoe. Well, that's probably, I mean, I'm envisioning, isn't water you would canoe in probably swampy? Oh, that's true.
Starting point is 00:56:03 It could be swampy. Especially if he says water science, that makes me think he's in a position where he's testing water for something bad. Sure. There could be a Jason in there. There could be. There's Jason. He's testing for Jason. Jason is chained to the bottom probably.
Starting point is 00:56:20 For the pH level, this is the J.H level. I would be remiss here if I didn't mention that, uh, has a verb that she uses for falling out of a canoe, which is tumped out of a canoe. I mean, it's pretty good. Yeah. It does, it is, uh, it's conjured image, tumping. I'll tell you what. Tumped over.
Starting point is 00:56:39 I'm like one of the only people ever to have a real medium level of interest in the summer camp that I went to. I really only know people that like, where their whole childhood revolved around how much they loved their summer camp that they went to or people who like cried the whole time and hated it and, you know, dug their fingers into the walls when their parents made them go the second time. I was kind of like, eh, I like some things about summer camp. And I'm already pretty well alienated from my parents. So that's not a concern. But the one thing that I really, really didn't want to do, even more than go to church. Because we had to go to church once in our,
Starting point is 00:57:20 because it was Episcopalian summer camp. So we did have to go to church once. And that was boring, but I really didn't want to get in a canoe. I don't know why I hated the idea of getting in a canoe, but I hated it. I mean, I guess too tippy. Well, too tumpy, I think we've learned. Tumpy, yeah. Have you been in a canoe since? No, I've been in boats. What about kayaks? I don't know. Because I could never do that thing where you go over underneath and then you use your core strength to flip yourself back up. Have you been in a kayak? I, we, on our honeymoon, Biz and I went kayaking in Hawaii,
Starting point is 00:58:05 and we definitely used it as a test to see if our marriage was going to last. Because there's some real cooperation and, like, communication that has to happen when you're kayaking with another person. Oh, you were in the same kayak? We were in the same kayak, which I cannot entirely. recommend. Kayak is the one where you're like a boat centaur, right?
Starting point is 00:58:28 Like you have a half-main half-boat. You're right. You just have your torso sticking out. Okay. When I went in Hodgman's boat Beans, which is a small boat that belongs to John Hodgman, that he putters around in a bay in Maine in, I enjoyed it very much
Starting point is 00:58:48 and I enjoyed listening to his CD of the Bob James album with the football on the cover that has the theme from taxi on it, which he really cranked the theme from taxi for me, which I really enjoyed. But what I really wanted to ride in was this thing that is, I think, between a kayak and a boat, which I only know from, you know those little ads on the side on the edge of the New Yorker? like where the page is like three quarters or four fifths New Yorker article. But then there's a little row of like...
Starting point is 00:59:27 It's a tiny, tiny ad. Yeah, and the Go Lightly Kashmir hat. There was this ad in there for the poke boat. Oh. That was... And it had a little picture of a little round nose like a dog, like a porpoise. It was like a boat with a little round nose.
Starting point is 00:59:44 And then the text from the ad above it was getting knocked around the end. edges by how good the poke boat was poking up through the column of little text advertisements. Does that make sense? So you were envisioning yourself in this boat poking advertisements? It feels like the boat equivalent of your Japan van. Yeah. I mean, like the thing is, is like there's a part of me that wants to have a full lifestyle
Starting point is 01:00:13 where I only have products that like, an old like an English professor would buy for himself out of ads at the back of the New Yorker or the Atlantic or Harper's. I love that the New Yorker
Starting point is 01:00:32 has the equivalent of like comic book ads like x-ray specs but it happens to be a poke boat that you can probably send away for for like $4.99. Exactly. It is so exactly
Starting point is 01:00:45 directly comparable to that the ads in a comic book, like 100%, only it's for a river cruise. I'm trying to figure out what's the difference between a pokeboat and a kayak. It sounds nubier. It has a nubier nose, so a kayak has a pointy nose. But the pokeboat's nose is, looks like, it looks like if a cartoon character's head got bonked square in the middle by a mallet and then a big,
Starting point is 01:01:18 Weld came up. It sounds like it's... I'm not going to look it up because I'm not going to Google something now. But it sounds like me... It's almost like it... Am I...
Starting point is 01:01:27 Is it right? It feels like a like a stubby like sombrero without the... Right? It's like a little short round. No, it's more like... It's a little bit more like an actual sombrero. Like it has like a round nose on it.
Starting point is 01:01:42 All right. Again, like a porpoise. If you imagine a porpoise, like a stubby-nosed porpoise going through the water. But, but How'd you sit in a porpoise? Yeah, exactly. I googled this to see what it was. I did Google poke boat.
Starting point is 01:01:54 I don't see the boat, but if we're all ever in Ontario, California, and we want a healthy lunch, we're going to poke a boat. That sounds nice. This guy's got a 4.4 on Google. That's pretty good. I found the actual ad. I'm seeing the actual ad in the New Yorker. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:02:13 Yeah, I found it. I googled pokeboat New Yorker and found it. And I think that when you buy one of these, it comes with a corduroy sport coat that has hidden travel pockets. Right. I can stash my dramamine in the inside pocket for my travel sickness. So you could protect yourself against nausea and Jordan. You could protect yourself against phonies. They're all over the place.
Starting point is 01:02:46 We're going to take a break. we'll be back in just a second on Jordan Jessica. La La La La La La La Remember Archer, the Emmy-winning animated series? I sure don't. I'm Ann Burnash, the voice of Pam Poohy, and I'm hosting an Archer re-watch podcast called Refraising. It was just pure punchline early on.
Starting point is 01:03:07 What's great about it is you can watch it over and over again, and you're going to laugh every time. I agree, Aisha. It's the gift that keeps on giving. When I rewatch it, I'm always very self-conscious about Lion Reefs. Really? Not me. I'm like, man, could work. Bob from Bob's burgers likes Archer? We're re-watching Archer from the beginning and working our way through all 14 seasons.
Starting point is 01:03:27 Each week, we'll discuss a new episode and play some dumb games. So check out rephrasing an Archer rewatch podcast on maximum fun.org. Max Fun Meetup Day is back on Sunday. Starting point is 01:04:03 Hosting your own is easy. Learn how at maximum fun.org slash meetup. That's Max Fun Meetup Day this Sunday, October 4th. See you there. La La La La It's Jordan Jesse Go
Starting point is 01:04:23 I am Jesse Thorne America's Radio sweetheart Jordan Morris Boy detective Jordan Rundee White's symbiote Wrangler
Starting point is 01:04:32 Stephen Lawrence shark fighter So a couple of updates on the poke boat First of all It's everything a canoe isn't It does It does what Nintendo
Starting point is 01:04:42 Don't It's so bad I mean I'm saying a Genesis Sorry Everything a canoe isn't is such a broad promise, because a canoe is such a narrow amount of things.
Starting point is 01:04:53 It's a ham sandwich, as it turns out. Yeah, it's president of the United States. It's mommy. My favorite thing about this pokeboat ad that we found in an old copy of the New Yorker that we had been digitized is that not only is it pre, there's a website to order the pokeboat on the ad era, it also has a local telephone number. It does not even have a, it is a 606 area code.
Starting point is 01:05:27 It's not an 800 number. It is just, you just call someone's house and order one. Like, hey, do you have any pokeboats in like stock or whatever? Yeah. And apparently the pokeboat was so ubiquitous at one point that there were ads for cars that were parodies of, or I guess, utilized the pokeboat ad where the car is crashing into the pokeboat advertisement and it's promoting the four-star crash test rating of the car that is crashing into the pokeboat advertisement. I feel like you need to track down a pokeboat now.
Starting point is 01:06:04 You know, there's a couple of different acquiesce ongoing conversations on the show. We were talking not too long ago about never having been on a booze cruise. could we combine these things? Like a poke boat booze cruise? I don't know. Go on a poke stroke. Sure. I mean, that's something different.
Starting point is 01:06:25 Technically, uh, I think basically every booze cruise becomes a poke boat after about 11, 30, 12 o'clock. If there's any like closets or whatever that are unlocked, you know it becomes a poke boat. Okay, handbone. That's what I'm going to say to you, Jesse, now. when things get a little wild. Okay, Hambone. The only booze crews I've ever been on, I went to in New York on a Guns and
Starting point is 01:06:53 Roses tribute band Boos Cruz where I got to see Appetite for Destruction play. And they had dinner, which was trays of baked Ziti and then some iceberg lettuce salad that you could enjoy. Oh, that sounds great, honestly.
Starting point is 01:07:09 Nothing wrong with Big Ziti. No, it was pretty good. G and R. Be and Ziti. Bian Zian. Crispy on the edges. I'm into it. You don't have to sell this to me, Stefan.
Starting point is 01:07:20 I went to see, I went on a booze cruise that was Van Halen themed, and there was this guy sitting on a bear. Oh. It's Bon Jovi living on a prayer. Yeah, that's Bon Jovi, thanks. You remember that one where they're like, they're going to La Biblioteca, and Alex just goes and does all the things that you learn in Spanish class?
Starting point is 01:07:44 Oh, yeah. that's a good one. Yeah, it was a good one. I'll ask Alice if he remembers that one, so we'll see. Yeah. It was funny because it was like, we finally find out why he wants to go to the library and the discotheque. And I wish I could tell you what. It was probably a pretty funny reason. Stefan's like, I drank a lot in those days. This ties in nicely with my recurring nightmare that I'm on stage with Elephant Larry, and we're going to perform a sketch and I have zero idea of any of the lines that we're getting that we're
Starting point is 01:08:19 of any of the sketches we're about to perform this still happens stephen if you remember elephant larry you weren't there okay and the 60s yeah they originally the elephant larry guys were actually the original members of shanana nah they performed at woodstock not many people know that Not many people know that. That's the only guy from Shauna Na I can name. How many Shauna Na guys can you guys name? Not even that other guy. I forget what you said, Jesse.
Starting point is 01:08:54 So none. I named a guy from Shauna Na. Where's my donors choose money? Alex Trebek, I presume. Jesse, he's passed away. Don't ask him for money. Don't worry. He'll be in the Garden of Heroes soon.
Starting point is 01:09:09 So you'll be back. You know what? He doesn't need it anymore, Jordan. he should give it to me so I can give it to classrooms so they don't have to do frauds. Wow. I listen. Hey, I know what I've been high-rooted. I'm sorry.
Starting point is 01:09:23 I feel like a piece of shit. I'm sorry. Yeah, well, you are. You're no phlebotomist, Jordan. You're no phlebotomists. I'll tell you that right now. Jordan D. White and Stefan Lawrence,
Starting point is 01:09:34 what is the most recent film series that you have covered on your podcast? The most recent one that is over is the, The paranormal activity series, which Stefan didn't find scary at all. No, I thought they all. Number five is okay. I kind of like paranormal activity, the marked ones. That's what's called, right? Yeah, that's the one.
Starting point is 01:09:58 Yeah, I thought that one was all right. I think the rest of them are all kind of, they all were terrible. I did not like it. That's about people getting pissed on by ghost dogs. Yes, yes. It's easily the scariest one. Not to be confused by movies where people are pissed on by ghost dog
Starting point is 01:10:17 from Ghost Dog Way of the Samurai There are several Ghost Dog 2, 3, and 4 are great Those are incredible films Really incredible films Okay, I do have a quick update here Oh please Some of the other members of shot on non
Starting point is 01:10:35 Oh good Captain Outrageous No sure of course Screaming Simon Right Rockin' Randy Mighty Joe And of course
Starting point is 01:10:46 Guitar Glenn I feel like Guitar Glenn sounds like he's not Tooting his own horn quite enough Or he's the guy Who didn't want a nickname
Starting point is 01:10:55 He's like a guitar It's like man do we have to That's dumb Yeah nope Okay Guitar Glenn I guess This is where like Howlin Pella Alnquist
Starting point is 01:11:06 Gets his name right It's based on Shanana Yeah 100% That makes sense They were originally a Shanana tribute act, singing covers of Shanana's covers of Duwap hits. I mean, that's a cottage industry in Sweden. You're a Swedish, Stephen, you know.
Starting point is 01:11:21 I know. We grew up. You go to any community center. There's going to be a Shanana band. Stephen, have you eaten these Swedish hot dogs? I love Swedish hot dogs. I love, so okay, so here's how I like my Swedish hot dog. They're longer than a normal hot dog, right?
Starting point is 01:11:36 So they stick out over the bun. Ooh, say less. Oh, they're great. So you have a tiny, tiny, tiny bun. And then I like to have two scoops of mashed potatoes on top with white pepper and mustard. That's my preferred. Wait, wait, hold on. Hold on.
Starting point is 01:11:54 Is that weird or is that normal? No, that's a standard way that you eat a hot dog. That's how it's served. There's lots of variations. That's not the only one that you do. There's ones with like you have with like a mayonnaise cabbage cabbage salad that goes on it. There's ones where you just have like a hot dog in a. pita. Wait, when you say mayonnaise cabbage cabbage salad, do you just mean coleslaw? It's different.
Starting point is 01:12:18 Okay. And coleslaw doesn't always have many. If I meant colesla, I would have said coleslaw. Well, I mean, a moron would think that. They have some sort of cucumber vinegar, like, salad that go, no, exactly. So a pickle? It's not quite. Okay. You chew it up and spit it out first. No, I love a Swedish hot dog. It's different. Though I also like the Danish equivalent where they just shove like a really bright red like red rocket inside a baguette. They just like put a, they put it like a fuckhole in the baguette and then. They have a fuckhole machine.
Starting point is 01:12:52 Exactly. They like a big like like spike that spikes the baguette and then the hot dog goes in the in the hole that they made. Those are also really good. That's honestly sounds great to me. That one, a baguette, I, sounds like a great way to eat a dog. I want to eat the mashed potato one. It's pretty good.
Starting point is 01:13:11 Is there like a place to get it or do you make them at home? Oh, I get them when I'm in Sweden. So like, like, because they just have like a like a, like a, they have a lot of sort of like, like, like hot dog stands on the street where you can get this. So when I asked there, if there's a place you can get them, it's like a country I can go. You can go to Sweden. I mean, also, mashed potatoes are available here. Oh. When did that happen?
Starting point is 01:13:32 It is possible to, to, to replicate it. But you got to get the like the longer sausage for it. They also do ones with like a, like a shrimp salad on top. and you shrimp salad with fried onions on top of it. And it's sort of lobster roll-esque, and it's pretty good. Hmm. Okay.
Starting point is 01:13:49 So that's just baffling. It's also a hot dog? I mean, there's also a hot dog undergirding the whole affair. Does the hot dog taste different itself than a regular hot dog? I feel like they snap harder, right? They have like a sort of like a harder casing so that when you bite into it has a real like crunch to it. You don't always get here. I kind of want to eat one of these.
Starting point is 01:14:15 Now, this is on my mind because we just had Jamie Loftus on Judge John Hodgman and just talked about hot dogs the whole time because she wrote a book about hot dog. Oh, cool. But in New Jersey, there's places where they deep fry the hot dog. And that sounds... There's no reason that's bad. Yeah, that sounds great to me. Right?
Starting point is 01:14:36 And this is not a corn dog? No, it's not a corn dog. This is a hot dog that gets... It's thrown into a fryer and pulled out. I'm assuming without batter, right? Unbattered, yeah. Just standard. And it makes the outside more fried and crispy.
Starting point is 01:14:52 Yeah. No, that's great. I mean, I used to, oh, I shouldn't admit this, but I used to sometimes slice up a hot dog and cook it in butter. And like, there's no reason. There's no reason. That's no reason. It's terrible.
Starting point is 01:15:04 That's awful. That's a terrible, awful way to cook something. It was really tasting. As a kid, I used to do peanut butter on hot dogs. Instead of ketchup and mustard, just do like peanut butter. That also sounds real good. It's not bad. It's seriously pretty good.
Starting point is 01:15:18 I can see why people wouldn't like that, but knowing that peanut butter tastes great on a burger, I feel like it would probably be good. We just had a summer. So Biz and I, we run an outdoor movie series in our backyard called Hot Dog Summer, where we make hot dogs every single week and show movies in the backyard. So I have eaten a lot of hot dogs the summer. and people bring over all sorts of things that they would like to throw in the grill. I actually never had one of the better cheddar weeners, right?
Starting point is 01:15:49 So it's just full of cheese on the inside. Oh, okay. Actually pretty good. There was a mango jalapeno sausage that came, they walked through our house. It was very delicious. I got to tell you, there's these Korean hot dogs that people love.
Starting point is 01:16:03 The, like the cheese crunchy corn doggie things? These, yeah, these are on sticks generally. and I ate some and I thought, I hate this, why do I hate this? And it turned out it was fish. They didn't tell you? I didn't know. I think everyone else knew that it was part fish.
Starting point is 01:16:24 To me, it just was part bad hot dog. It's cultural insensitivity on my part. I just got caught unawares by the fish. Is that a standard thing for Korean like cheese dogs? I think a lot of them are like part fish cake. I have had that without a fish element and it's very good. I really like it. That was the thing.
Starting point is 01:16:46 It sounded so good to put cheese in the hot dog. So what kind of topic? Because I know they come with all sorts of like rolled in strange, crunchy things or flaming hot Cheetos or whatever. How did you have them? Sometimes they're sweet on the outside. Yeah, the one I had kind of a, I don't know if it was like a corn flake batter or something like that,
Starting point is 01:17:05 but it had kind of a sweet. It had a pokey element. It had things poking out of it. Oh, yours was like a poke boat. A sweet and pokey. Yeah, a pokeboat, sweet and pokey. These are things people call. Well, you know what?
