Hi, everyone. Judge Andrew Napolitano here for Judging Freedom. Today is Friday, September 30th,
2022. It's about four o'clock in the afternoon here on the East Coast of the United States.
Just about an hour and a half ago, also on the East Coast in Washington, D.C.,
President Joe Biden, using what I think is unnecessarily
strong and even provocative language, was responding to unusually strong or usually
strong and provocative language from Russian President Vladimir Putin. Before we get into
what Putin said, here's what Joe Biden said.
America is fully prepared with our NATO allies to defend every single inch of NATO territory.
Every single inch. So, Mr. Putin, don't misunderstand what I'm saying. Every inch.
Mr. Putin, don't misunderstand what I'm saying, every single inch.
You know, it's bellicose, it's warlike.
Putin
is strong but fragile.
And I'm not so sure
that language like that accomplishes
anything except maybe pleasing Lindsey Graham
and the neocons
in the Congress and throughout
the country.
Putin did make some very strong statements. The
United States is the only country to have dropped a nuclear bomb. He's right. The United States
killed innocents, killed civilians with that nuclear bomb. He's right.
Now, he made a lot of other statements like Anglo--saxons did this and anglo-saxons
bombed the nordstream pipeline i mean the the american government is blaming the russian
government for bombing the nordstream pipeline which would be absurd for them to do it all they
have to do is turn it off why would they destroy their own property uh while the president of
russia and the President of the United States
are pointing fingers at each other over who's going to defend what. Okay, we have a NATO treaty.
I don't agree with it, but we have a NATO treaty. We have agreed to defend the NATO countries.
The treaty specifically says if one country is attacked, it shall be treated as an attack by all.
This has never happened.
And, of course, NATO is far larger and goes far more eastward toward Moscow than it did in the old Cold War days,
and certainly than it was at the end of World War II when NATO was put together.
Why Joe Biden made these comments, I don't know.
Maybe this appeals to some conservatives that would vote for the Democrats
in the midterm elections in six weeks.
He didn't sound very strong, but his words were unduly harsh and needlessly provocative.
I hope this goes nowhere.
Judge Napolitano for judging freedom.
