Hi, everyone. Judge Andrew Napolitano here for Judging Freedom. Today is Thursday, May 25,
2022. It's about five minutes of five in the afternoon on the East Coast of the United States.
I was just on Newsmax with my friend and former Fox colleague, Eric Bolling, and we were analyzing nonsense coming
out of the mouth of the president and the silliness of an executive order that he is signing,
purporting to regulate how the police do what they do. But while he was doing that,
his former boss, President Obama, came out with a tweet. Now, everybody's expressing their opinions on the tragedy, and it's a tragedy of monumental proportions, a heartbreak that will never go away for the people personally affected, a community utterly wrecked and destroyed and a nation grieving. Nevertheless, there are of course calls to change the law.
As if a person willing to slaughter 19 babies and two school teachers is somehow going to
obey the law. Well, the tweet about changing the law came from none other than former President
Barack Obama himself. Here's what he said. We're all so angry for them. This is after
he expressed remorse and sadness on behalf of himself and his wife, Michelle. Nearly 10 years
after Sandy Hook and 10 days after Buffalo, our country is paralyzed, not by fear, but by a gun lobby and a political party that have shown no willingness to act in any way that might help prevent these tragedies.
Mr. President, I respect you.
You're a decent and honorable person, though you and I have disagreed on almost everything political.
But I must assert affirmatively, sir, that you're dead wrong on this. You took an oath to uphold the Constitution, same oath as I did when I went on-defense, and it allows you to use the same
modern mechanical means to defend yourself as the bad guys would use and as the government has.
Translated, your right to keep and bear arms is a personal right. It doesn't come from the
government. It doesn't come from the Second Amendment.
The Second Amendment preserves it. The Second Amendment keeps the government's hands off it, though it has not done a very good job. But that will change soon because the Supreme Court of the
United States, in my opinion, will soon invalidate state laws that make it nearly impossible for law-abiding folks to keep and bear arms.
The president, the former president, makes the same mistake that the liberals make.
They somehow think that a person who's willing to slaughter babies will obey a gun law. They are in favor of gun-free school zones. A gun-free zone,
whether it's a gun-free school zone or a courthouse zone or any kind of a zone
in America where the government, usually on government property, doesn't allow you to carry
a gun to protect yourself, are the most dangerous places on the planet. The creep that murdered 10 people in the Buffalo
supermarket knew that that was effectively a gun-free zone because nobody can carry in New
York State except for active duty and retired police. The creep that killed the children
yesterday in Ovalde, Texas, knew that he'd meet with no resistance coming from inside the school and he could just open an unlocked door and open another unlocked door and start murdering babies and their caretakers.
So here's what I suggest.
Instead of a sign that says gun-free school zone, a sign that says this.
Warning, staff members are armed and trained.
Any attempt to harm children will be met with deadly force.
That's effectively what happened yesterday in Uvalde, Texas, but it happened too late.
In Uvalde, Texas is but it happened too late. In Uvalde, Texas, is a branch office of
the Border Patrol. Now, the Border Patrol doesn't police towns, it polices the border. But there
were 80 Border Patrol offices in their building in Uvalde, Texas, ready to travel to the border to go on duty. When the 911 call came in, these 80 folks
rushed to the school. They actually got there before the police did. And one of them is a
sharpshooter who realized that the killer was wearing Kevlar and shooting him with a handgun in his chest is not going to work. This sharpshooter stopped the killer, Ramos,
by avoiding the Kevlar and hitting him where he was not protected and stopped him from killing
anymore. It's a damn shame that this happened after 21 were dead. Because if school teachers or trained school personnel were permitted to carry arms,
far fewer than 21 would have died. And maybe this thug would not have even gone to the school
because he would have known that the firepower, superior firepower, was going to come back at him.
It's a sad day. But it will be made even sadder
if people like President Obama get their way, which would be to take guns away from law-abiding
people who save lives, they don't kill them. Justin Politano for Judging Freedom.
