Hi everyone, Judge Andrew Napolitano here for Judging Freedom. Today is Thursday, August 11th, 2022. It's about 1035 in the morning here on the east coast of the United States. even Democrats are up in arms over the latest legislation making its way through Congress,
which would treble the size of the IRS. Now, there's a lot of bad legislation in this package.
This is the one that Senator Joe Manchin and Senator Kyrsten Sinema eventually relented to,
and that passed the Senate 51 to 50 with Vice President Harris breaking the tie.
It's called the Reduction of Inflation Act.
It's absurd that the government thinks or that the Democrats think they can reduce inflation by spending more money.
That's like trying to put out a fire with gasoline.
Spending more money, particularly government money, is what causes inflation.
But that's not what I want to talk about.
I want to talk about just one small part of this, and that's the money that's going to beef up the IRS.
So everybody knows how taxes work in America.
You fill out your own tax form, and you tell the government what you think you
owe it. If they agree and they have your money already, they send it back to you. If they
disagree, you work it out. Now you're going to work it out at the point of a gun. Yes.
So the IRS budget is going from $12 billion a year to $80 billion a year.
And the direction in this legislation, $12 to $80 billion a year,
and the direction in this legislation is for the IRS to hire 87,000 new agents.
So before the legislation even passed, the IRS posted a public ad, a public advertisement for agents.
We're going to show you the relevant portion of the ad, and when you see what's highlighted
in yellow, it'll make your hair curl. Take a look at this. IRS agents major duties. You can read what's there, but read what's in yellow.
Carry a firearm and be willing to use deadly force if necessary. Carry a firearm and be willing to
use deadly force if necessary. Up until the enactment of this legislation, which hasn't passed the House yet,
and so hasn't been signed into law, only IRS agents in the Criminal Enforcement Division,
which is a very, very small division, the vast majority of the IRS is accountants and clerks who
are processing and reviewing tax returns, until the present time or whenever this
legislation passes, and maybe some angel will appear and strike this clause from the legislation
before Joe Biden signs it into law, only members of the Criminal Investigation Division of the IRS,
which is a very small portion of it, just a few thousand employees were allowed
to carry guns. Now, of course, the vast majority of IRS agents will be carrying guns. What do you
do if an IRS agent with a gun and a badge shows up at your house? Ask the person for his or her
business card and then say, my lawyer will call you. Don't answer any question. Don't even tell them
who you are. Just ask for the business card and politely
close the door. If they have a warrant, there's nothing you
can do about it. You have to let them execute the warrant
because the warrant will allow them to use force to execute
it. It's unusual for that to happen.
They usually knock on the door and pay a visit with you first. But remember, under the Fifth
Amendment, you have a right to remain silent. You don't have a right not to fill out your tax
returns, but you have a right to remain silent, which means if they knock on your door, unless
your lawyer is there and willing to engage them, take the card and knock on your door, unless your lawyer is there willing to engage
them, take the card and tell them your lawyer will call them and have a nice day. Why are the
Democrats doing this? I don't know. The IRS is not going to target just Republican taxpayers.
They're going to target a class of taxpayers, probably those reporting between $75,000 and $250,000 a year.
That's where most of the audits occur.
Now, audits are usually civil audits and done peacefully, meaning the IRS agent who's ordering the audit and working with your accountants on the audit does not carry a gun and a badge and doesn't come bursting into your house and you meet peacefully, amicably at an IRS office near your home.
But why the firearms is beyond me. Oh, and before this legislation even passed,
in the past year, the IRS has purchased more than $700,000 worth of handguns and ammunition.
Something bad is coming down. Judge Napolitano for Judging Freedom.
