Hello there, everyone. Judge Andrew Napolitano here with Judging Freedom.
Today is Friday, February 25th. It's about 4.35 in the afternoon on the east coast of the United States. Adam Johnson was just sentenced to 75 days in jail. You probably
don't know who that is, but when you see a picture of him in a couple of minutes, you'll know who he
is. He is the guy on January 6th who broke into Mrs. Pelosi's office. That's the office of the
Speaker of the House of
Representatives of the United States, and walked off with her podium. Now the press is saying
that Mr. Johnson, who is a stay-at-home mom whose wife is a physician, excuse me, a stay-at-home
husband, sorry, his wife is a physician, was sentenced too heavily for a misdemeanor.
A misdemeanor is a crime, the penalty for which does not exceed one year in jail.
But quite frankly, 75 days and a $5,000 fine and community service is light for breaking
into somebody's office and walking off with their podium. Somebody broke into your office and walked off with an essential piece of your work equipment,
you would think that 75 days was light as well. I'm aware of all these disputes. Some say January
6th was legitimate political expression. Some say January 6th was an effort to trash the Capitol. Some say
January 6th was an effort to prevent the transfer of power from Donald Trump to Joe Biden. Some say
January 6th was an effort to take over the government. It was probably a little bit of all
of those, but this fellow, Adam Johnson, broke into her office and walked off with a piece of her furniture. 75 days,
at least when I was on the bench in New Jersey, is a slap on the wrist. Judge Napolitano, judging
freedom. Resolve to earn your degree in the new year in the bay with WGU. We'll see you next time.
