freedom. Today is May 10, 2022. It's about 2.30 in the afternoon here on the east coast of the
United States. You probably have heard me and others discuss this problem of people approaching
the homes of justices of the Supreme Court in order to demonstrate their animosity towards the individual justices
because of what they expect will be the reversal of Roe versus Wade. All of this happened when
somebody, either on the inside or the outside, probably the inside, released a draft of a
Supreme Court opinion reversing Roe versus Wade to the press, and almost literally all hell has broken loose.
Some of the demonstrations have been peaceful. Some of them have been loud and raucous. The
ones that I have seen and monitored have all been absolutely protected by the First Amendment.
As a former judge and a former Fox commentator, in both cases, I was subject to demonstrations by the public more when I was a judge than when I was on Fox.
You learn to live with it. It's part of the job, the right to comment about the government. It's the highest protected First Amendment right there is. And even though there's a federal statute that says if you
do this for the purpose of intimidating the jurist, you break the law, it's impossible to prove what
intent was, and the benefit of the doubt goes to the demonstrator. Now along comes Lori Lightfoot.
Lori Lightfoot is a former federal prosecutor who is the mayor of the great
city of Chicago. And she is suggesting that it's time. Well, I'll let you read what she said.
To my friends in the LGBTQ community, the Supreme Court is coming for us next. This moment has to be a call to arms.
Good Lord. This is the mayor of the most violent city in the Western world, and she's calling for
a call to arms. Is she suggesting that people who are pro-life or jurists who are pro-life should be shot?
Or is she using the word arms as a metaphor as it's time to express your strong opinion against all this?
Mayor, I wish you wouldn't do this.
People are going to misunderstand what you say.
I mean, you command the second largest police force in the United States, and you're saying the Supreme
Court is coming for you? The Supreme Court doesn't come for anybody. People file lawsuits
at federal district courts or in state courts, and they slowly make their way to the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court only exists to resolve cases and controversies that are properly before
it. Supreme Court justices don't sit there and say, this is constitutional, this is okay,
this is unconstitutional. They can't. The Constitution prevents them from doing that.
As I said, they only hear cases and controversies. And for you to say, call to arms, look,
you have a right to keep and bear arms. Not in Chicago.
Not in Chicago, Mayor Lightfoot.
What the hell do you mean a call to arms?
Your own city is the most violent in the country because people can't carry arms to defend themselves.
This is a head scratcher, Madam Mayor.
Please open brain before opening mouth.
Judge them, Paul Tano, for judging freedom.
