It's about five after two o'clock in the afternoon
Starting point is 00:01:23 on the East Coast of the United States. Over the weekend, there was another mass shooting, this in Sacramento, California. There were two shooters. They fired 76 shots in less than a minute. They injured 12 people and they killed six. This occurred outside a nightclub in an entertainment neighborhood in Sacramento, where the bars and clubs stay open late and people often mill about and walk from one facility to another. It appears as though this was some sort of a fight between people aligned with the shooters and people aligned with those who were killed.
Starting point is 00:02:07 It's a tragedy. Nobody wants to see this happen. It doesn't happen because guns are lawful. It happens because people are willing to break the law. The President of the United States, of course, lamented the deaths. He did so in a beautiful statement. But then he went on, of course, to condemn the fact that people own guns in this country and to ask for a clamp down on them, on all kinds of guns and requiring all kinds of registration. You might as well blame the automobile manufacturers when there's a car accident, or you might as well blame the car itself. That's how absurd the president's arguments were. The Supreme Court has ruled that the right to keep and bear arms is a personal right. You don't need the permission of a bureaucrat to exercise a personal liberty in America, whether it's owning a gun or standing on a soapbox on a street corner and speaking your mind,
Starting point is 00:03:07 or publishing a book or a pamphlet or an article. Our rights come from our humanity. They come from within us. And our fundamental rights are not subject to the government's regulation. Now, the idea that the right to keep and bear arms is a personal right, in my view, is what the Second Amendment was intended to protect. The courts didn't see it that way until 2008 in a five-to-four opinion written by the late, great Justice Antonin Scalia. Prior to 2008, a lot of laws were on the books regulating guns, and many of those laws are still there. In my view,
Starting point is 00:03:53 those laws to TOO are about to go by the wayside because the Supreme Court, right before Christmas, heard oral arguments on New York's gun carry law, which is the same as New Jersey's and Illinois's and California, which makes it very, very difficult to carry a gun lawfully. But for the president to think that people willing to kill are going to obey gun laws is crazy. The reason we have these killings is because it's like shooting fish in a barrel. If the killers or potential killers knew or feared that somebody would shoot back, they'd either think twice before they did this or they'd be stopped with lethal firepower before they could get on any farther. sorry, left-wings, folks out there, even my friends. You're wrong. The right to keep and bear arms is a modern extension of the natural right to self-defense. Where there are more guns, there's less crime, because these shootings always stop when the police arrive and the police carry guns. Judge Napolitano, judging freedom. year in the Bay with WGU.
