Hi, everybody. Judge Andrew Napolitano here for Judging Freedom. Today is Tuesday, June 21st, 2022. It's about 140 in the afternoon.
So last week, with great fanfare, New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed laws that she says will keep the public safe. One raises the age for the purchase of a semi-automatic
rifle, like an AR-15 or an AR-17, from 18 to 21, and the other makes certain body armor illegal.
Both of these laws are ridiculous. A criminal who wants to kill can always get the weapon that he wants and a criminal who wants to
protect himself from the police shooting at him can always get the protection he wants now it turns
out that the so-called body armor that governor hokal has made illegal isn't body armor at all
it's woven cloth it's the lowest form of bulletproof vest there is. It's not
even a bulletproof vest. It won't even stop high-powered bullets from going through. Look,
this whole thing about the government telling you what to wear is profoundly unconstitutional. You
want to walk through the streets dressed as a knight in shining armor? You can do it. You want to wear a bulletproof vest under your shirt? You
can do it. You want to wear a hair shirt like St. Thomas More did? You can do it. You can wear
whatever the hell you want. It's none of the government's business. The government can't
outlaw clothing, and the government can't outlaw protection.
Why is it doing this?
Because its cops are not sharpshooters.
Cops should be trained to shoot where there is no protection being warned by the criminal.
I can only imagine the framers. We're almost at July 4th.
Thinking to themselves, this is really ridiculous. The government is debating what kind
of protection you can wear on your body. Where did we give them the power to do that? Answer,
nowhere. Governor Hochul, you're a joke. If you really think that these laws you signed are going
to keep people safe, all they are are talking points for you in your campaign for
election. They won't keep people safe. They will keep them less safe and less free. Who the hell
has ever heard of a government that tells people what to wear and what not to wear? You can't keep
potholes out of the streets and you want to tell people what to wear?
Only in America. Judge Napolitano for judging freedom.
