Hello there, everyone. Judge Napolitano here on Judging Freedom. It's Monday, January 3rd, 2022. And I want to chat with you briefly about the conviction of Ghislaine Maxwell, which was last week for sex trafficking.
This is her conviction on five out of six counts. The trial went on for about two and a half weeks
in federal district court. She did not testify as she has the right not to do. Three of the four
witnesses who testified against her did so under assumed names, which is questionable constitutionally.
However, that's not really what I want to talk about today. I want to talk about today
what I think her lawyers are doing as we speak. Even though her brother said she's not interested in doing this, Ms. Maxwell
is facing 65 years in jail. She is 60 years old, so it's effectively a life sentence.
What is she probably doing that her brother says she'll never do? Negotiating with the same
prosecutors who prosecuted her by offering to give up the names of people who
were involved in these sexual crimes.
Now, the normal way to do this is before prosecution and before conviction, but she probably thought
she would prevail in the trial, and there was no reason to spill the beans if she didn't
have to.
Now that she's facing
65 years in jail, forget about what the brother is saying. You would probably say anything that
was rational and believable and truthful to the same prosecutors who put you away in order to get
them to go before the judge that tried you saying she's been of enormous help to us, sentenced her to two years in jail instead
of 65. That would be her hope and her goal by spilling the beans on these other people.
I might be wrong. The feds might not be interested in this, but given who some of these other people
are, and I won't mention their names, but they've been mentioned all throughout the media.
Very powerful, prominent people in recent American history.
I would think the feds would be very interested in knowing who they are and what evidence Ms. Maxwell has against them.
And as somebody who's been in this business for 45 years, I'm telling you,
that's probably what they're negotiating, even as you listen and as I speak.
Judge Napolitano, judging freedom. I hope this pop-up has been helpful to you.
