Juicy Scoop with Heather McDonald - Pete Davidson, Hollywood Hypocrite + The Swan Women Speak

Episode Date: October 6, 2026

I'm getting into why Pete Davidson's comments about influencers made me so mad. Then I give my predictions for the Real Housewives of Orange County reunion: who's going to get dragged, who's coming in... with receipts, and who I think Andy goes after hardest. And the internet is buzzing over Gypsy Rose’s ex fiancé and baby daddy’s shocking death. Then, I sit down with two former contestants from The Swan, one of the most controversial reality shows ever, now the subject of a new Hulu documentary. They tell me what it was really like to spend three months cut off from their families while undergoing massive plastic surgery for TV, how they were treated behind the scenes, and what happened to them after the cameras left. • Right now, Nutrafol is offering our listeners $10 off your first month’s subscription and free shipping when you visit https://Nutrafol.com and enter promo code JUICYSCOOP • Use code JUICYSCOOP at https://jonesroadbeauty.com to get a Free Gift with your first purchase! #JonesRoadBeauty #ad • Download Cash App today and make your money work for you. Okay. I have a great show for you today. I have a great interview, which we will get into in a second. Let's go over some things that have happened in the world since. I'm going to just
Starting point is 00:02:37 straight up start with something. I talked a little bit about on my Patreon, which you can get at Heather McDollon.net, on Friday, because I saw it right before I recorded. And it just pissed me off. You may have not seen this because a lot of clips from this interview have been made. But Pete Davidson, you know him. He was on SNL. He dated very famous people, most famous for dating Kim Kardashian. between Kanye and now her new boyfriend. Okay. And he was always all tattooed. And it was very sad because he was a victim from 9-11.
Starting point is 00:03:13 His dad was a beloved firefighter who passed. Okay, that's kind of what was interesting in hearing that he was. And he was also one of the youngest comedians to be put on S&L. So he has a very fun, particular way about how he talks. He's cute. He's sexy. and apparently the word on the street is he has a big old D and a lot of girls want to be like, what's up with that big old D? Okay. So he since has started to get his tattoos removed. He also
Starting point is 00:03:41 became a father, but he is no longer with the mother. Why? I don't know. We don't know. That's fine, as long as he's being a dedicated dad. Anyway, he did an interview and he, the clip of it, now listen, I didn't watch the whole thing. But the clip of it has really pisses. an awful lot of people, including myself. And they knew what to clip, let me tell you. Because also the angle of him, I guess he always had those big giant chomper's. I don't know if they're veneers. I don't know what. He's still a good looking guy. Okay. He's still, I can see why girls like him, tattoos or not, okay? But he goes, he's like, I mean, what's with these girls, my age, just talking to themselves in front of the camera, you know, like doing a little dance. Oh, get ready to me with
Starting point is 00:04:28 me. Oh, and they just do a little dance. What the fuck is going? The way he says fuck, he's like, what the fuck is that? What the fuck is happening here? And these girls are making 40 million a year? Like, what is happening in the world? This is the first time I felt old. This has infuriated me on so many levels. What the fuck is your problem, Pete Davidson? Honestly, why are you such a jealous prick? What is your problem with girls being successful? in the privacy of their own home, being safe. They don't have a team behind them. In order to be a successful influencer, you have to do it all yourself. No one has William Morris behind you. Nobody's got a PR team behind you. No one's setting you up with this and that. You're not showing up
Starting point is 00:05:16 on a shoot and dancing around when someone does your hair. Okay. The influencing world, which I have said over and over should be thanks to Kim Kardashian. Okay. And the Kardashians, They were one of the first people that made tweeting and things where they could be paid to do it because they had so many followers. Okay. That's who you ended up dating and tattooed her children and Kanye's children's onto your body while they were still, I think, legally married to taunt Kanye. So you're a fucking loser. And then also, who are you? Like, you stand up on stage, as do I, and give your opinion and people pay to see it.
Starting point is 00:05:56 So why should you be making money for that? Who the fuck are you, Pete Davidson? Who the fuck are you? So, and why are you mad at a business that in 2026 realizes that their advertising dollars are better spent having authentic people talk to people that are similar to them to say, hey, girls, I really love this mascara. This is why I love it. And they would rather put their advertising dollars into that person and work that way
Starting point is 00:06:24 than a big advertising firm and a big commercial so that what? So a model can come in and make a one lump sum for that day and never see another dollar from it or maybe a tiny residual check. No, this is a great model that is working for a lot of people, for the businesses, for the women doing it. And it just felt so misogynistic and so angry. You know, I'm going to the 49ers today. Why the fuck? Why the fuck is a guy throwing a football making millions of dollars? I mean, who cares about that? Or just running around in your tight pants? I mean, why are they getting paid? A teacher should be paid as much. Like, it's just such a stupid thing. Like, this is our world and it is great if someone can be successful at it, without hurting anyone, without trafficking people, without being a complete, disgusting, fraudulent person. And I'm sure it was a throwaway. line. I'm sure he's trying to be funny. Oh, TikTok, this is a dancing. Yeah, it's shocking, being in front of a camera. What about all the dumb projects you did that you got paid to be in, that you didn't even believe in, that you didn't write, that you didn't produce, but you were
Starting point is 00:07:34 the dancing, you know, clown to be in it. Does that make you a better person than the person that's writing their own script, doing their own thing, letting people know that they really like this product or, you know, knowing that they're getting paid thousands of dollars to convey what is great about the product. I mean, that is why influencing is now a major in school, because it's a broader way to move and sell products and make brands. It's not just three channels on TV anymore. It's not just a handful of people that can be successful. A lot of us can be successful. And that's really wonderful. And it's not just the people on SNL that got hired at 21. Okay. And it's not just the people that get to clout chase and date hot girls and get put in
Starting point is 00:08:18 magazines and whatnot so that we still know their name. Now, I think you, Pete Davidson, knows that your time is fucking up. You're getting jealous. You know you have a big D. You probably will have to do OnlyFans like you're talking about it. And if you do, I will applaud you. Use what God gave you. Make your money why you can make it. Make it easily. Make it quick. So you can spend more time with your child. And that's what a lot of women do and why they go this route. Because they're mothers and they want to be at home and safe. And they love makeup and they love clothes. and they have great style, and they're finding a way to get paid for it. Thank you. Okay, let me shake that off a minute. Okay. Also, I want to talk a little bit about my thoughts
Starting point is 00:09:03 on Real Housewives. I was thinking about this the other day. We've talked a lot about it. Some of you have dropped off and not watched. Listen, it's a comforting show. I love the women. I will watch it. However, I'm going to make a little prediction. I think I said earlier on in my last episode, how will they get three episodes out of this? The reunion normally has three episodes. Sometimes certain shows only have two. If it's a newer show, they have one. Sometimes they wait till the second season to have it.
Starting point is 00:09:33 I can't believe that we're going to sit through three episodes of how Vicky said to Carmela, she didn't have enough things in her home and therefore knows that she's living in this rented home to appear that she lives in the OC, thus securing her, part as a real house of OC. We all know it. Who cares? They were looking for somebody. She seems perfectly fine. But, you know, she's trying to make her mark. And Vicki's just like, I don't see what's happening. Where's the TV? Where's a TV remote? What's happening here? You know, whoo. I work. So, she's miserable. She just had another, like, knee surgery done. Now, I've been fortunate enough not to have something like that. But I know it's very painful. And it would bum me out to if I had to wear heels while my knee is physically killing me,
Starting point is 00:10:23 okay? Who wants to go out when you're not feeling cute and all of that? However, something kind of funny about her being called Debbie Downer. So I saw that Alexis Bellino had posted something about her husband, John Jansen, yes, former boyfriend of Shannon Bador, that he has been having knee trouble for years and they're trying all these different things and hopefully it'll work. And it was just kind of an informational thing about what medical peptides or whatever they're using or I don't know. And then the first comment was Vicky and it was like, good luck to you.
Starting point is 00:10:53 I've tried all those things. Nothing works. You still have to get surgery. So just go get it. And I'm like, okay, that is the epitome of a Debbie Downer, Vicky. I hope John's knees get better. I hope Vicki's knees get better. You know, that is a pain in the ass or pain in the knee. But this is what I think. There's a lot of talk. There actually was an article written where It was something to be affected that Vicky has already decided not to come back to season 21. Vicky, fresh from her surgery, then responded to that in a pretty funny video that she put together. Or probably Christian did, which is fine. He's funny, too.
Starting point is 00:11:35 That's her co-host, Christian. Anyway, he, on her podcast. But it was like, well, that's news to me, you know. So I don't think anything's decisions have been made about what will happen in season 21 of O.C. But this is my prediction. If you want to get three episodes out of it, I think what would be really interesting is to go about it and kind of ask, when I have housewives on my show, one of the things I always ask is like, what was the best thing about becoming a housewife and being famous and what was the worst? When was the moment on the street or something where someone come up to you and you kind of realize, wow, this is going to be a new life. is what's great about it. This meant so much to me. This person wrote me and said, sharing my story
Starting point is 00:12:23 impacted their life in such a positive way, whatever it is. Or this was the most mean negative thing that put me in a hole for three days. I think that shit's really interesting. So I think what Andy should do is because whether the show comes back with all the same girls, half new, half old, all new, take an indefinite break like they did with Miami. Because it's It's kind of like, where do we go from here? Since nothing really happened, big, you know, they're trying. You know, the last episode I mentioned that Tamara's business, Hervina, which is a CBD type of, or THC type of brand, seems to do very, very well. She was very smart.
Starting point is 00:13:08 She did what Patrick and I said, have a big party where you're going to promote your thing where they can't not share your promotions. And she had it everywhere. She's a new canned drink, which I think is a great idea for a product. I think that could live on well beyond this show, so good for her. And she invited all the old housewives. I don't know if that was production's ideas or hers, but it was pretty smart. And if she has remained friendly with all of them, that is cool too. So we had Quinn, if you guys remember Quinn, Quinn was a one-hit wonder, and it was a wonder
Starting point is 00:13:42 because she really didn't fit in. And she didn't fit in at the party either, but she seems like a nice woman. she did show up. We had Tammy Knickerbocker who had a very sad story and had just, you know, she was divorced. She had a young kid who's now 24. He was four. That's how long ago she was on the show. So they talk a little bit about that. We have Lynn, the cuff curtain. She makes cuff still. And Heather DeRoe was asking about her. So that was kind of fun. For the people that have been watching the show as long as I have, I thought it was kind of fun. And then Alexis, who truly is close to Tamara, shows up with John Jansen. So that adds to some drama. Thank God they
Starting point is 00:14:17 Otherwise, there really has been nothing that's happened in this show that's worth three episodes of reunion about. So what I think is they should have something that if it doesn't come back, and not that I don't want it to come back, but it doesn't come back, there is sort of a finale to it. And I wouldn't be surprised if this happens in that they kind of go through each girl. Because we still see many of us as like Emily and Gina as like the new girl. They're not new. I think this is their seventh or eighth season doing it. That's a significant amount of time. Gina has been through abuse, a divorce, reconciliation with her ex in a co-parenting way, a new career, sobriety, a DUI, sobriety, better hair extensions, most importantly, an engagement, dealing with her fiance's ex-wife, managing six kids in one home. Like, it might be the most interesting moment that is there.
Starting point is 00:15:15 If we kind of like go through, just like they were kind of doing on the Ultimate Girls trip, kind of like recapping what these women have shared with us and be grateful for what they've shared with us. And again, I just, you know, I feel so bad for Emily's son and that this is such a big part of her story, which is it's her story. But it's just like every time she wants to go a party, she goes to her mother-in-law's, you know, Persian, party and, you know, Luke's texting her the whole time. And I'm like, gosh, I hate that Luke is always being accused of ruining her good time, you know? So that's her situation. And Shannon, there's just not a lot happening, which is fine, too, you know, like that, that is her life. And she doesn't have
Starting point is 00:15:56 to make up some weird story to still be compelling to watch. So I will give them all that. But I think that would be really interesting since not a lot happened in the season is to do more of a reunion of your time on the show. What did you love about it? What was the hardest part of the seasons? And where would you want to go forward? And who in this group do you see you continuing a relationship on it? And maybe this, that way, if it is the finale finale, then we really would have something that you know when like big scripted shows get canceled or they end? And they're like, we never had that finale episode. We never had that moment. They didn't tell us. We thought we were coming back. And the actors and the fans and the crew and the writers always felt like they were somehow
Starting point is 00:16:43 jipped of that moment versus like a Seinfeld or a friends where you know it's coming. And this is the final episode. And we can all like say goodbye and mourn this period of our lives together. And there's like a nice button to it. I just hope that in the chance that real house house OSC doesn't come back in the same type of capacity, I think that's what they should do. And I kind of predict they might. Okay, other weird kind of crime, it's not crime news, but Gypsy Rose, you know, famous, the D is on fire. That girl who, you know, had a horrible childhood. She was a victim of Munchausen by proxy. She had a boyfriend who then, she, coerced into killing her mother. She went to prison. She had several boyfriend. She's come out.
Starting point is 00:17:37 She had a reality show. She came out and marrying a man that looked just like her mother. And they filmed the reality show. That's where she said his D was on fire. They broke up. So then she gets with her other boyfriend that she met after she divorces her husband. And they get pregnant. They are parents to a beautiful young girl. They never got married. they were like kind of off and on and she got some good plastic surgery. She loves being in the limelight. It is how she makes her money. It is being a public figure.
Starting point is 00:18:11 The reality show has ended. But I see her doing collabs with like only fans people and having like fake TMZ shoots or whatever, wearing a wig. Listen, you know, the girl's got to do what she's got to do. So then some sad news happened in this week we found out through her baby dad. daddy, fiance, ex-fiance, that he had passed. And weirdly, her brother, Gypsy Rose's brother and his wife, went over there to take him out for his birthday because Gypsy and he were in a bad place. Apparently he had either threatened or had filed to get sole custody of the girl of the little
Starting point is 00:18:52 daughter. So they were not getting along. Also prior to his death, these jailhouse calls. halls between them from back when she was in prison had somehow they got access to them. And they both come off horrible. Horrible. There's racist things, even about her own sister's husband. It was really bad. Now, we know how in this world and these people are popular public figures in that section of fans that are kind of obsessed to Gypsy. So I don't know if he was getting a lot of awful things going on. But it was his birthday. He did have plans. They were coming to
Starting point is 00:19:33 get him. His sister then went on live to share how she discovered that, you know, he is no longer with us. So the news kind of went crazy right away. Gypsy did make a statement to TMZ right away. And of course, there was a lot of comments of where was Gypsy, being that she, you know, already did time for murder for her mother. They were wondering what is happening. here. And from what I can tell, it doesn't appear like there's any foul play. Very, you know, very sad. This man was a father. You know, there's a little girl now that no longer has a dad. But that was just a crazy story, a sad crazy story that I, that I knew that you guys would want to hear a little bit about. Okay, now, I don't know if you've seen the show, The Swan.
Starting point is 00:20:24 The Hulu Doc is available right now. interviewed some of the girls who were contestants, two of the girls that was a contestant from season one and one from season two. I watched the swan. I was fascinated by it. To remind you, it was where girls would go and get all this plastic surgery, leave their family for three months, and then come out and have their first reveal with all the hair and makeup and a dress. And it was just a very iconic moment in reality TV. And in this day and age in 2026, There's a lot of things that just would never fly today that is quite horrifying. Dr. Dubrow, Terry Dubrow, was one of the plastic surgeons working on the show, and we get into
Starting point is 00:21:11 that and why he may or may not have wanted to participate. I talked to the director. At this time, it was before I could watch the episode. So I am asking questions as someone who watched the original. show as just a viewer and didn't know all the backstory, which is shared in the very interesting documentary. So I think you're going to really enjoy it. Whether you remember the show or you saw the doc or not, this is an interesting one of what happens when you enter a contest to be on a reality show, to get a ton of free plastic surgery, to look like the typical epitome of beauty in 2004 to
Starting point is 00:21:57 six, you know, that era of Paris Hilton and being skinny and wearing the low-rise jeans and, you know, that whole style and how important it was to look a certain way. And what they would consider heavy, which would not be considered heavy today, and how they got them to look the most perfect they could in just this short period of time of healing from massive surgery and multiple surgeries, multiple surgeries, and where the women are 20 years later after having the experience. And it's really quite interesting how they kept in touch, what sticked, what didn't, what was good, what wasn't, and why they thought this was a good in the first place. So here we go with my interviews, with the director, and two of the stars
Starting point is 00:22:48 of the swan and the Hulu doc about the swan. Let's go. Dustin from Sacred Symbols here, you know when you're in the middle of a heavy recording session, editing a show, or just trying to get real work done on the go, and your laptop starts slowing down or burning up in your lap? It's the worst. So, what does it actually feel like to switch over to a better laptop, like the Dell XPS powered by Intel Core? For starters, it's built with a premium design that's incredibly thin and light, so it feels smooth, meaning far less weight on your shoulders when you're packing up for travel. Then you open it up and the responsive touchscreen makes scrolling, zooming, and swiping feel, completely fast and precise. Everything just flows. Best of all, with its long-lasting battery life,
Starting point is 00:23:30 it feels like non-stop energy. You get a better way to work without being chained to a charger all day. Build for those who want better. The DellXPS built for you. In Toronto, every arrival is a statement, and nothing says it better than this. Cadillac Optic was the number one selling luxury EV in Canada for 2025. Find your rhythm across a seamless 33-inch display and an immersive 19 speaker AKG surround audio system. This city demands agility and optic delivers with precision to make every drive extraordinary. Let's take the Cadillac.
Starting point is 00:24:06 Find out more at Cadillac canada.ca. Luxury sales claim based on S&P Global Mobility Canadian New Vehicle Total Registrations for calendar year 2025 for the Cadillac definition of luxury. I'm Darmann, and this is what happens next. Each week on the show, I sit down with extraordinary people who have faced tremendous setbacks and yet somehow have found a way to turn them into their greatest strengths.
Starting point is 00:24:28 Life is one long lesson of chaos. I'm heading to the Emmys, and I have police complaints filed against me. When your free will was about to be taken from you, what would you do if it was given back? Where did that need come from where you thought that you had to succeed in order to feel loved? He said, I have a work dad, I need a home dad. What happens next? When I came in, he started crying. Everybody in life encounters hardships.
Starting point is 00:24:52 What defines them is not those hard moments that they go through. It's about what happens next. I decided to risk it all. I realized how valuable every day was. You're worth the work. Listen, Dar, I'm not going to pull punches. You can use your voice even if it's shaped. The stories are different, but the impact is the same.
Starting point is 00:25:10 Only one question matters. What happens next? Hello, and welcome to Juicy Scoop. Many of my Juicy Scoopers were as excited as I am a best. the documentary that we wondered more than any show we've ever seen is where are the swans now, the very exciting controversial, especially controversial looking back now, but this series, the swan in which women would volunteer themselves to go from, I mean, this is such an awful thing, an ugly duckling, to a swan with the help of diet, cosmetic dentistry, plastic surgery,
Starting point is 00:25:58 hair, makeup, fitness, diet, and therapy. And I am here with the director and two of the swans. Welcome all of you guys to Juicy Scoop. Thank you for doing this. I'm happy to be here. Thank you so much. So let's start with you, Aaron. You're the director. How did this project come about first of all? I was a teenager when the show came out and I sneaked an episode thinking that it was going to be saying, oh, I couldn't watch. And it was like, people were talking about it. And here were these women who I thought looked completely like normal to me. Like I was like, no, if that's the people they're picking for the show, like, what does it mean for me?
Starting point is 00:26:43 But then this like very big, huge sort of wild thing of like, we want to try to see if plastic surgery can. can change someone from the inside out. And so as somebody who makes things and makes films about the empowerment of women, when Hulu approached me and said, we're going to be making this doc about the reality show from 2004, the Swan. I was like, yes, nope, I've got it. Don't go any farther. Please, please.
Starting point is 00:27:11 And then I started getting on conversations with Carrie and Christy and a bunch of our other Swan sisters. And the stories just started to flow. You think you know what happened because of the show, but it's so not true. And through over the course of the documentaries, all the tea is spilled. Well, let's start with, well, I've got Carrie and Christy here. You guys both look gorgeous still today. And why don't we start with you, Carrie?
Starting point is 00:27:44 We'll start with you, Carrie, a little bit. How did you decide to possibly go on this show? show and what season were you and just give this little background. Yeah, so I was on season two. When season one was airing, my sister Gina, she called me while she was watching an episode and said, they're casting for season two. I think this is something that I really want to look into. And then she went onto Craigslist, because that's how it was back then. And they were looking for sisters. So she called me immediately and she said, I'm on my way over. I have my video camera. Like, you don't have a choice. We are auditioning and we are doing this together. And honestly, I was like,
Starting point is 00:28:29 okay. Why not? Where did you and your sister live? We lived in Orange County in California. So we were not far from our way. Yeah, and you're no stranger to plastic surgery living there. and was it just something that you're like, this is a way to get all these things done for free? Or what was your motivation to try out for the show? I had one motivation and that was breast reduction. I was 23 when we submitted our audition video. I had already been to my doctor asking for reduction.
Starting point is 00:29:05 And every insurance company says, you're too young, you haven't even had kids yet. Like, we can't cover this. But I was huge and it was painful. and for me, when my sister said that, that was my ticket for reduction. I didn't think about a single other surgery. That's the first thing that I wanted. Okay, before we hear about your experience, once you've gone on the show, let's go to Christy, Garza, and tell me a little bit of how you decided to go on it.
Starting point is 00:29:35 I was getting ready to complete my contract, active duty contract in the United States Army. And so I was looking for, you know, a pass. What am I going to do? I was watching the TV one morning. It was KTLA, and they advertised for a life makeover. And I was like, oh, a life makeover. And then, of course, they mentioned the life coach and the career coach and, you know, the fitness trainer and plastic surgery. Because unlike Carrie, I had one child, and my poor tities just didn't make it.
Starting point is 00:30:10 And, yes, I was 22 years old and looked like I had cow teeth. like I could be milk to feed a village. But anyway, so I was like, ooh, teeth and tities, yeah, I need that. And also the other stuff is cool, too. I grew up as a tomboy, and so I never really felt cute. I always just, I mean, I always felt like, you know, one of the guys or whatever. And I wanted to feel pretty. I was like, make me pretty.
Starting point is 00:30:33 I want to do that. That sounds cool. So when you get worried that you are going to go on this show, take us a little bit through, like, how beginning. to end how long you're doing it for. I assume, the way I recall, you're kind of like in
Starting point is 00:30:51 housing there throughout all the process of all the surgery. And you cannot, the other thing I always remember is that there were no mirrors, right? So they didn't want you to see yourself
Starting point is 00:31:03 until you walked out of those doors with the panel and the doctors and the other contestants who were also buying for the best swan. Can you explain?
Starting point is 00:31:13 Season one and season two? Those are two different answers, I guess. So do you want to hear? Which one do you want to hear first? Yeah, Christy, why don't you tell us your story? Okay, so we were there about three months for my recollection, and we did not know about the No Mirror thing until we were already there, signed in, locked in, and that was very surprising.
Starting point is 00:31:42 Those three months of being sequestered was insane. I know that it was supposed, it was, they spun it as if, you know, this is going to be great. You can focus on your internal transformation. That was not my experience. It couldn't have been anything further from what my experience was. It was wild. It was wild. And the surprises just kept coming.
Starting point is 00:32:05 We just kept getting all the surprises. What was some of the things that was, what were some of the surprises? Sorry, go ahead, Christy. It was surprising with the mere thing. And then, you know, much later down the road, we were surprised with the pageant thing. And it was also surprising that we were going to be on this processed food Jenny Craig diet. I don't think that was a good call there. And that's coming from somebody who had been living the past five years of their life, eating MREs and eating in a shower wall.
Starting point is 00:32:36 Yeah, I think that it just was like so much of it was unclear to the participants that had signed up. And I think audiences from 2026 and audiences from 2024 were like, well, why would they sign up? And it's like, they didn't know about the pageants. They didn't know about the food. They didn't know that they'd have to work out so much after surgery, so much of it. And then ultimately that they would be competing against each other. And then, and LeCarrie can speak to this. And then so some of that was known in season two.
Starting point is 00:33:07 but then it just got wilder and weirder and the humanity sort of like left the building, so to speak. I ended up feeling like cattle. I felt like I was just a pawn in somebody's game. Like it was for money or clout, and none of that was going to me. I was there for somebody else's benefit. When you were doing it, Christy,
Starting point is 00:33:32 you said you had a young child. Were you able to be with your child, or did you have to have someone take care of the child the whole time or what? No, you have to leave everything. You have to leave your family. You only get one or two phone calls a week, if that, and then you're not guaranteed that. My daughter was very young at the time. I think she was, let's see, 2004.
Starting point is 00:33:54 She was three years old. And so she went to be with my then-husband's mother. And, yeah, we had to leave our friends' family and most of our pride behind to go do this. And then Carrie, why don't you tell us a little bit about, so you and your sister go, your season two, do you get to share? My sister and I. Huh? Yeah. So my sister didn't know I was there.
Starting point is 00:34:22 I'm sorry. I didn't know my sister was there. We auditioned together. They basically pulled in my driveway and said, guess what, Carrie, you're going to be a swan. And then they said, and then they made me tell my sister on camera that she wasn't. they decided to choose only one of us. So right then and there for me, this is not what I signed up for.
Starting point is 00:34:43 I didn't even want to do it without her, but she made me promise that I would. So I go away and after I leave, they tell her, guess what, Gina, you're going to be there too, but it's a secret, don't tell your sister. And then they proceed to threaten her
Starting point is 00:34:58 with multiple lawsuits if she told me. Oh my God. So, yeah. Yeah. That's really interesting. to say the least. I had somebody recently that went on the Bachelor-type franchise, okay? And I just couldn't believe how freaked out they made her feel after she left, you know, the Bachelor, how it works. Like, you better, if you say one word, if you really, it's going to be
Starting point is 00:35:29 $25,000 per thing that you say and do. And it was like this, and she was, you know, not part of the entertainment business and she was so stressed out and I was trying to tell her. I go, like, first of all, don't worry because she was, you know, sharing some stuff with me. And I go, but also, like, I've interviewed people and, you know, in this franchise for 11 years and no one's ever been sued. So, but it's like the, the scariness of it, of like being thrown into this room where then the attorney comes in and just like, that is what I think is just so bizarre. And interestingly, we actually have, so the trainer from season two, Debbie, was a like a very big contestant on the golden bachelor. She made it all the way to the very end.
Starting point is 00:36:21 And so the swan and the bachelor are in, are sort of linked in these interesting ways. That is true. So Carrie, so you get there and let's tell me a little bit about your journey and what you had. done and stuff. So I had breast reduction. I had a brow lift, liposuction from head to toe. They did something to my eyes. They're shaped differently. I don't even know the extent of every single thing I had done, but it was a lot. And then, you know, teeth. But the whole time I was there, for me and my story, they just basically treated me like, what's it like to know that you're you're going to be beautiful and your sister's not.
Starting point is 00:37:10 And they used her kind of against me in this weird way. Yeah. Yeah, it was, it was awful. I think they just wanted to see if they could break our bond and break our family. And they can't. And they didn't. And we're stronger than ever. So after the months,
Starting point is 00:37:33 nay, you know, did every girl have hair extensions? I mean, sometimes it was a little like, you know, Miss Piggy walking out with this big freaking wig, you know, and I was just always like, God, does everyone? And then I always wondered, like, what happens when you leave and you can't afford to keep up with the hair extensions and the hair color and everything? What did they do to your hair? I definitely had extensions. And the week that I went home, I took them out because I knew it was not something I could keep up with. You know, go home, wash all the makeup off, take the fake hair off. and then all of a sudden you kind of recognize yourself again.
Starting point is 00:38:10 Yeah. Yeah, and I think that what of the thing that I'm so sorry to interrupt, one of the things that was interesting was that certain contestants felt like they were styled in certain ways to suggest if they were winning or losing. I think that you could very clearly see the people like in episode one, Rachel Love Frazier, who would go on to win this one, how she looked in her evening gown. And then you had other people like Kathy Weber
Starting point is 00:38:40 who was asked to, you know, to, you know, who not was asked, who was wearing a motorcycle jacket, right? And so there were these different levels. And then I want, I want Christy to talk about her bangs because they gave my girl some mess of bangs and we think it was sabotaged. Go ahead, Christy. seen better, I've seen better looking women at the, at Bobidale and Billy Bob's beauty review down at the youth car lot.
Starting point is 00:39:09 I was just like, what, what fresh hell is this? Like, I grew up with bad bangs, you know, I have an IMAX forehead. So my mom was always like, oh, we're going to camouflage this, you know. And so I was like, what, what am I looking at? This is a train wreck. And the extent. You have to see it. Like, she comes out.
Starting point is 00:39:29 And Christy is a crowd favorite of the entire season. She's former Army. She's a spitfire. Then now, like a total badass. And then, yeah, and then she like comes out. And everyone's like, why did you, what did you? What is going on with her bangs? It like it legitimately didn't make sense, right, Christy?
Starting point is 00:39:49 Like, how did you feel when they were putting the bangs on you? It made zero sense, but I had no clue. But I do know that I sat in that damn chair for like eight hours or nine hours getting those extensions. and I was like, these are really long, and they were very heavy, and it just destroyed my hair for years after that. But, you know, and another thing about the whole reveal, they put me in a long-sleeved dress. Like, I looked like I was going to a Baptist pot look, you know what I mean? I'm like, this is supposed to be my big reveal, and ooh! And I was just like, why would you give me this long-sleeved tadashi gown?
Starting point is 00:40:21 You know, they kept saying it's a tadashi gown. I'm like, okay, great. But how many times did you have to do the reveal? Oh, oh gosh, that day was torturous. It was a nightmare. I think I sat in that mansion that they had rented for like 14 hours. It was sweltering hot in there. And I was like dripping sweat and, you know, like airing out my pits. And they would come in there and just put more makeup on my face. And I'm like, oh, I was hungry. I was thirsty. They're like, okay, it's going to be soon. It's going to be soon. I don't remember how many times they had me do the reveal, but I do remember. you would come in there and be like, hey, I need a big reaction. It has to be big. You know, I need tears and I need you to act like, you know, it's Christmas morning and all of this. So I don't know if you've seen the original show, Heather, but when you watch it, you know, if anybody that can read body language, you can see my eyes are trying to be happy, but I cover my face.
Starting point is 00:41:17 And so, you know, I'm from a military intelligence background and interrogations and military police, all of these things. And so I can read people's body language. And when I go back and watch myself, I'm like, oh, I was horrified. I was horrified. I looked like a bee actor in a low-budget movie. You know, I was like, what the hell am I looking at? In Toronto, every arrival is a statement. And nothing says it better than this.

Starting point is 00:42:14 I was an Avenger, but I'm not a hero anymore. On October 14th, the Vision returns for the final chapter of the groundbreaking trilogy. That family wasn't real. You sure about that? I had a father called Vision. How is this possible? Don't miss the two-episode premiere of Marvel Television's Vision Quest. Nothing bonds a family together quite like Mortal Jeopardy.
Starting point is 00:42:39 Streaming October 14th. Only on Disney Plus. This is... So what was everything you had done, Christy? Oh. Much like Carrie, I honestly, I don't even know everything. I had to see it when I watched the show, which I've only watched one time. And that was when it aired.
Starting point is 00:42:55 because I was disgusted. I was mortified. I had a browlift, liposuction, breast augmentation, rhinoplasty, laser skin resurfacing, and then whatever else they talked about on the show. Honestly, I didn't give a damn about it. I am super happy with the plastic surgery. I still am to this day.
Starting point is 00:43:13 I call these my season ones, and I love them. I still love them. The teeth have been a total pain in my ass, and I'm actually missing a lot of teeth in the back, because I don't know what she had going on, but those crowns and all the things that she did weren't sealed properly, weren't seated properly. And so I've been losing teeth over here like, I mean, just left and right.
Starting point is 00:43:36 Really, that's terrible because dentistry is so expensive. And I would have thought that would have been one of the best things that would have come out of it, you know? No, if you look up close, this is a, they're about to be summer teeth. Some are here, some are there, some are missing. That's what they're, yeah. If I get, if it gets two more jacked up in there, I'm going to look like Methany, a Crystal Methodist. That's what I'm going. And when you go to another dentist, did they think that maybe the work was rushed or what?
Starting point is 00:44:07 I've just been told that they did it completely improperly, and they should not have shaved down my teeth the way that they did. Way over process. We can never go without veneers now. We have to have them because all we have are these tiny little, not even chicklets. We don't even have chicklets left. They look like tiny little, I mean, court on the cop has bigger kernels than we have of our actual teeth left. And it's important to say that the dentist that was on the show is no longer practicing dentistry. Well, that's a great sign.
Starting point is 00:44:36 So without knowing, she did not return requests for comment or to be interviewed. My producer, Rachel Bozic reached out to her many times. but I think that the teeth and how much they showed and that every single person needed to get Da Vinci veneers was one of the big red flags of the show. Yes, totally. I did not want that. One size fits all kind of a makeover,
Starting point is 00:45:06 which, you know, instead of really looking at the individual person. What I'm curious, did any, did either of you guys get like lip filler or filler in your face, because that's something that has to be kept up. So I'm curious how that worked out. I'm very thankful that instead, my doctor suggested that we do fat transfer. So it was my own fat transferring to other places,
Starting point is 00:45:34 and then when it's your own, it doesn't dissolve, and you don't have to get it redone. So thankfully for me, that was hope once and never got. Where did you get it transferred to? I know my lips and under my eyes probably all around here, but again, we don't really know what happened. It's fat pad removal from your face and then injects. So I had the fat pads removed, but then I had, so we jokingly have called me ass face because I had fat from my ass transferred to my lips and under my eyes. And I'm like, yeah. And what about you, Christy?
Starting point is 00:46:12 Did you have that? I did. I had injection. They would actually come to our room with vials of like Botox and filler and Restolin and all, you know, all these. I don't know all the names. I don't do it. Honestly, like I've got a caviar taste on a tuna fish budget. So I'm just over here like slapping on whatever I can get at Sephora or Ulta.
Starting point is 00:46:36 You know what I mean? But yeah, they would come in there and just pump us up. We'd sit and one girl would be, well, sometimes they'd have parties where, Several girls would be in one room, and then they would come in there and service us all with all the things. And some, I actually still have a knot inside my upper lip from one of the fillers. I guess it wasn't squished out enough or something. I remember that being an agonizing part of that. They had to, like, inject it and then squish your lip to, like, even it out or whatever.
Starting point is 00:47:06 I do. I'm not going to lie and say I'm not self-conscious, I mean, self-conscious sometimes about my wrinkles. and, you know, my lips being wrinkly and stuff like that. But I also love the sun and I love a good cigarette and I'll drink my wine. And, you know, I just, I could give two flying flips about what anybody thinks about me anymore. If you can't whip my ass, you better not say it to my face. So once you did the show and you came home and it sounds like, what was your initial thought? Were you happy at first?
Starting point is 00:47:39 And then it became kind of embarrassing. saying, did people ever recognize you from the show or, you know, or just people that knew you from the neighborhood knew that you went to it and would you like kind of jealous and called you like, you know, oh, everything on you is fake. Like, I kind of want to know the response from home. I didn't, I never was recognized. I never had anyone I don't know, stop me and say anything. I had a couple of random messages once I created a Facebook, but, you know, I'm thankfully, anyone I knew, they just were like, oh, that's cool. Like, no one was mean about it.
Starting point is 00:48:16 We didn't have social media back then or else I'm sure it would have been a lot uglier. But, no, I just kind of went back home. And aside from worrying about my teeth falling out, I loved everything I had done. I was super happy. But I went home and went back to normal life. What about you, Christy? It's in a transition phase of my life. So while I was on the swan, my husband at the time, moved all of our
Starting point is 00:48:43 things to a little town close to San Diego. And so I didn't really know anybody when I got there after the Swan. Pretty much it was just our friends and family that knew about it. But after watching how they edited it and how they portrayed me in that show with my then husband and all of our friends, which were mostly military and their wives or husbands and vice versa, I was mortified. I was completely embarrassed. I would have rather walked out in public and told somebody I had an STD than to tell them I was on the swan. I was, I mean, beyond embarrassed. And for years, like when people bring it up, aren't you?
Starting point is 00:49:23 And immediately after the guy that did the PR for Fox, he was super sweet and he would get me tickets to go do things. I was on the Ryan C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. And probably the coolest thing that ever happened to me was this single dad and his daughter were waiting outside of the Ryan Sechrest show. And she was like, I love you so much. And she's like, you turned out so pretty. And she asked me for my autograph. And thinking back to that, I wish I could find that little girl because I have so much to tell her. Like, you know, I mean, I'm sure she's not little now.
Starting point is 00:49:55 But I just remember being so touched and being like, okay, well, maybe some good did come out of this. But yeah, it was weird. And also seeing yourself in magazines after. and you're like, I don't know. It's still weird now with the documentary coming out, you know? It's like, I'm just a plain old Jane over here, just trying to hang in like hair and a biscuit. I'm trying to stay six feet up and ten toes down.
Starting point is 00:50:16 And I love all the expressions. So when they approached you guys as past contestants saying, do you want to be part of this and just, you know, reflect on it and tell the truth, did you have any reservations about being on the dock? A ton. I had a ton of reservations. Because after going through what we went through back then, how do we trust you? How do we know you're not going to twist our words? Like, do you really have our best interest at heart? And every time it would move a step forward, I think I would reset my, oh gosh, am I doing the right thing until we met Aaron. I think once Aaron came on,
Starting point is 00:51:00 every worry I had went away. It was the same for me. Good. And now, so Christy, since you were on season one, so you did have the no mirrors until that moment thing, right? And how did they tell you you're not going to see a mirror for three months? They told us when we walked in the apartment, girl, and there was contact paper over the mirror.
Starting point is 00:51:25 And then there was aerosol deodorant sprayed over every reflective surface. I mean, I would be honest with you, like I did see myself a couple times when these people were taking us to appointments. And one time they took me to Dr. Debrose's office and I went to go to the bathroom and there was nothing on the mirror. So I was like, I mean, I was all up in it. So, you know, I, I broke. And what did you think when you saw yourself in that mirror at that point? Hell to the know. Like, what is going on?
Starting point is 00:51:53 I look like, frank and bitch. That's what I look like. I was like, because you were still swollen from the surgery or what? And I had had that laser skin resurfacing, so I literally was walking around like a burn victim. So, I mean, maybe that was good, though. Now I'm thinking maybe that was a good element of the process not letting you see each other, see yourself. Because it is hard. I mean, I've had, I'm no stranger to getting stuff done.
Starting point is 00:52:20 And, you know, there's times even just with simple injections and stuff that go wrong or you don't, you know, like I once had like a, like liquid nose job years ago. And I just remember I like woke up the next day and it was just like so swollen. But then it was fine. And I like it worked out. I haven't done it in like 10, 12 years. But I liked it.
Starting point is 00:52:49 But it was that panic. Like, and I was trying to like do my makeup and look normal that day. So I do kind of think that isn't the worst thing in the world to say like, don't look in the mirror until you're, you know, swollen, swollen, you're, you know. It wasn't the worst thing in the world, but the way it was framed to us, like everything was the farce. And I think that's the thing that pisses me off the most. You know, they said, oh, we don't want you to see yourself. So you can focus on your internal transformation. And then I think I'll,
Starting point is 00:53:17 I can only remember going to therapy three different times. She never wanted to talk about my self-esteem issue. She wanted to talk about my relationship. So am I here for him or am I here for me. Like, I want to know why I don't like myself. Can we work on that? And it was just the life coaching thing was complete BS. And it was just like, what was it was all, it sounds like it was all for the TV show. So I'm sure that the life coach and the therapist had the instructions that it's a lot more juicy to the viewer to hear about your relationship with your husband than hear about, you know, something else that isn't as tantalizing to the audience. Well, the thing. The thing is the show started off by Nellie Galant.
Starting point is 00:53:59 That's a creator of the show, and she said, and how she sold it to the participants through the casting process is you are going to go through an internal and external transformation. The creator of the show ended up being a life coach on the show. So she hand-selected the therapist, the nutritionist, all those things. But then she actually was inside the show, and instead of doing like coaching, and I don't know what was going on, the cameras weren't wrong. rolling, but it was like, it was, you know, fear mongering around food and what people were eating. And so it was this very strange thing of like, focus on yourself, but we're going to put you in a pageant, the only the ones that we pick to the pageant, and you're going to wear lingerie, and you're going to wear bathing suits, and then people are going to judge you about who was
Starting point is 00:54:47 the sort of the biggest swan versus the ugly duckling. So living under that sort of cognitive dissonance And the hypocrisy, I think, is what was so challenging. And like, it's one thing to be said, you know, you shouldn't look in the mirror while you're recovering. It's another thing for people to remove mirrors from any part of a surface and then for you to get in trouble if you try to look in a mirror. Yeah, I could see that. Christy, you mentioned that Terry DeBrow was one of your doctors. Obviously, he's staying in front of the camera with Real House of O.C. and everything. how was he as a doctor for you?
Starting point is 00:55:25 I love Dr. Debrough. And, you know, I still love him to this day. And obviously, you know, I brag about the season once. That's what I call the girls. They're hanging in there, you know, and I've had two open heart surgeries, and they're still symmetrical looking, you know, they look great.
Starting point is 00:55:39 I like the way they look. But I know that that's not everyone's experience, but to me, I thought we really vibed and everything was great. Much to my chagrin here just recently, I saw some kind of ad hominem comments on social media, which really, you know, it really upset me because I thought we had a thing. I thought that, you know, we really had a cool relationship. What do you mean that he said something negative on social media? Yeah, I mean, about the show or?
Starting point is 00:56:14 It wasn't positive. Not to me. The way I interpreted, it just was not positive. So the trailer came out and Dr. DeBrow said something about this being BS, right? And the trailer was effectively the women's stories and saying what their experience was. So we all thought it was a very strange thing for someone to do calling bullshit on a film that he had not even seen. Yeah, I mean, that's the thing when, you know, when people jump to conclusions or even when I do podcasts. and I have a small clip, which is essentially like a trailer. Hope you watch the whole episode, but here's just a small clip of a conversation.
Starting point is 00:56:58 And, you know, that's all people then comment on. And you're like, well, if you would have listened to the whole hour, then you would have seen that it wasn't, you know, one point of view all the way through or whatever. So, yeah, I think he probably knows that this was a time of reality shows that would never fly today. And, you know, he agreed to be a part of it. And I mean, I think that's kind of the way, the only way you can say things. As someone been in the business for a long time, there's jokes that I said 20 years ago that I would never say today. Yeah, you can't do better until you know better. And it, and that's okay. Like, you know,
Starting point is 00:57:37 and things, people change their minds. What was funny 20 years ago is, is no longer funny. It's corny. It's inappropriate. It's cringy sometimes. And, you know, you need to, as the person, whether you're part of a show or in my case, whatever, said a joke, you're just like, yeah, I don't, you know, I wouldn't do it again today, but we, we thought we were doing a good thing. And I was, and, you know, he could also say I was just one part of it. Again, he wasn't the producer. He didn't create the show. Um, so. And maybe he was just, sorry, sorry, Aaron. I was just going to say he also has a very no holds bar type of personality, which is I think why we vibed so well, you know, back in.
Starting point is 00:58:23 And so maybe, you know, maybe I'm just overly sensitive myself. You know, maybe I'm just in a weird place or whatever. I could have interpreted it wrong. We'll find out eventually. But I know I was just kind of taken it back, like, oh, damn, you know, like, I thought he was, I thought we were bros. But, you know, we'll see. I mean, maybe he's doing so solid and he's just drumming up, you know,
Starting point is 00:58:43 controversy for the doc because there was a big reaction to the trailer. and he wants to be sure that his voice is involved in the frame. There was one story I remember that came out of the swan because they did some guys too. Where a guy and a girl swan, they never did guys? No, never. Okay, maybe that was a different show. Maybe I created this story in my head, but I always remember there was some story about makeovers where a guy and a girl both got severe classic surgery.
Starting point is 00:59:17 and then they got married or they had a baby together. And I was always just like, I really wonder what happened with them. I thought it was from the swan, but I guess I was wrong. Yeah, I don't know. There were no males on season one, and to my knowledge, not on season two. No. How many seasons were there? Two.
Starting point is 00:59:39 Oh, okay. God, it seemed like it went on longer than that. And why did the show end? Do you know? Mm-hmm. So the show ended. The season one got massive viewership. It was the most seen beauty pageant that exists in the United States.
Starting point is 00:59:55 It was critically received very poorly, right? It was sort of that there was a big backlash. And then with season two, and I think that's why it's so amazing that we were able to talk to Carrie and Gina, they really utilized the sisters and sort of pitted people against each other. And when it went from sort of like, okay, this is watchable to a pretty, inhumane place. And there was a woman on the second season who had cancer. There was a woman who survived a house fire, somebody who is deaf. And so ultimately, in terms of audiences and critics, they felt like it was too difficult to watch. And it was a very expensive show because it's basically
Starting point is 01:00:34 a social experiment where you, you know, send somebody away for three months and film them the whole time that I Fox saw sort of, you know, that it wasn't returning on the investment that they thought it would. And so it was canceled. But it lives in this weird place as one of the most, quote, unquote, sadistic reality shows of all time. And but as like all of us know on this chat, like, we're not that far away from what the swan was, right? With Ozempic, with all of these different things, the way we look, with all of us getting plastic surgery, little tit, like little, something's little, something's big. And so that's why they're the sort of the appetite is so big right now because it's like what the heck happened back then and why is it actually
Starting point is 01:01:21 what sort of is happening right now yeah and well also what's interesting so what was your relationship then when you got back so you and your sister were okay so you didn't know your sister was on the show carry until the moment of the pageant no so um I was supposed to find out at my reveal. So right after I see myself for the first time, I would turn around and they would say, meet your competition, and she would walk out. Now, that is what happens, but I found out three days prior, they made a mistake and had information on the wall at the dentist office. And so that's when I knew she was there. I kind of suspected the whole time because of how they treated her in the beginning. But that's when I found out for sure. But when they, the curtains open and I turn around and
Starting point is 01:02:13 here comes Gina. That is genuine shock because, you know, she didn't look like my sister anymore. Like I heard her voice and I knew that was her, but I think it was harder on her. She said I looked even more different. And then once we spent some time together, we were like, okay, good, it's still you. And afterwards, what has been your relationship with reality TV? Do you like it? Do you like it? Do you ever, has anyone ever approached you to be on anything, any other reality show over time? So we have we have not no one's approached us. We haven't been on any. I absolutely love reality television.
Starting point is 01:02:50 We both binge it all the time. I'm just going to shout out Big Brother. I'm here. I got you. I'm in. Good. I've never been approached either. But I do.
Starting point is 01:03:02 I love reality TV. But also while I'm watching reality TV, I can pick up now and I'm like, yeah, that's not really what happened. You know what I mean? I know that there is. is some scripting to it. And, you know, it's made to be salacious because it's for viewership, you know, somebody's pockets are getting lined, just like with beauty standards. And like Aaron said, you know, have we come very far since 2004? I don't know, probably not, because beauty standards
Starting point is 01:03:32 don't exist. It's a Sisyphian task. But yeah, I love reality TV. I'm a huge fan, but I also know that as somebody who makes true crimes, I definitely sent a tape in to be on the traitors and they have not responded to my agent. So they don't know if they're making. I love that. I'm so in. I would watch. Yes.
Starting point is 01:03:53 Yeah, well, there's two traitors this season, right? There's going to be the celebrity one and then regular people again. So you applied for the regular people one or the celebrity one? To a celebrity one. Oh, good. Good. Well, this has been so fun. really excited to watch the show. Tell us where we can watch it. The show comes out September 29th on Hulu.
Starting point is 01:04:18 Okay, great. And can you watch it all in one week or we have to go back? It's every week or how many episodes is it? It's a feature. So you can watch it in one fail swoop. And, you know, we're really excited about it. And it's through these women grit and determination. And I think that, I think it will finally settle and understand, like, why do people, you know, why do people do show? like this, like anybody would have done that show because it promised to fix all of your imperfections. And so that's what we're really excited for there to be a dialogue about. I'm very excited to see it. Well, you guys are lovely and funny and so interesting. So I'm glad that even though this seems like, you know, it wasn't the experience you thought it was going to be. besides the teeth issues, it sounds like your life continued on and you enjoyed your boobs and life was okay, yes? Is that a good interpretation? Yeah, I always tell people sometimes,
Starting point is 01:05:18 even when life gives you a lemon, you can still make a margarita. So I think that's what we all did with the experience, you know, like, okay, well, that was a wild ride, but at least we got pretty nice tits and some good teeth. And the best friendships, like, ever. Also a little trauma. You had kept in touch with people and stuff. Yep. For 20 years we have.
Starting point is 01:05:38 I love that. Well, thanks so much, girls. I really appreciate it. Thank you. Thank you so much, Heather. This family is on the brink of civil war. Mobland. The hit original series is now streaming
