Juicy Scoop with Heather McDonald - The Housewives Divorce Curse Strikes Again with Kate Casey

Episode Date: October 8, 2026

Kate Casey is back, and we're starting with the news that Whitney Rose from Real Housewives of Salt Lake City has filed for divorce from her husband, Justin. We get into the Housewives curse and why s...o many of these marriages fall apart once the cameras start rolling, and what may have been going on behind the scenes for Whitney. I also share my theory on how the latest Real Housewives of New York divorce news may have played into her timing. Then we break down the scene where Andy finally apologizes to Melissa and Teresa for how Bravo brought Melissa onto Ultimate Girls Trip behind Teresa's back, and we gush about The Golden Life with our New York OGs. Plus, Kylie Jenner has a new acting project, and I share my predictions for how it will go. Kate tells me about her latest interview on the story behind St. Elmo's Fire. And we dig into Real Housewives of Orange County and how the way a Housewife was parented shapes how she parents her own kids, including whether Emily's children would be better off if she weren't on TV. • Right now, Nutrafol is offering our listeners $10 off your first month’s subscription and free shipping when you visit https://Nutrafol.com and enter promo code JUICYSCOOP • Use code JUICYSCOOP at https://jonesroadbeauty.com to get a Free Gift with your first purchase! #JonesRoadBeauty #ad • Download Cash App today and make your money work for you. When you're on the road, when you're on the go, Juicy Scoop is the show to know she talks Hollywood Tales for real life Mr. Sagan's serial data and serial sister. You'll be addicted and addicted fast. Life podcast, Heather McDonald's Juicy Scoop. Hello and welcome to Juicy Scoop.
Starting point is 00:01:05 I have your favorite smarty pants, funny girl, Kate Casey, mother of five, host of reality life with Kate Casey. My dear friend, welcome back to Juicy Scoop. I'm very happy to be here. Always. So, Kate, you have five kids and you are up to, you're just entering the journey of where your daughter might go to college, which is a fun time. I personally have some questions about the alabia. mom's decorating the dorms. Yeah, yes, yes, yes.
Starting point is 00:01:40 Your daughter is looking at Southern schools. Yeah. How will you manage all of that? I don't know. I feel like I'm really good at finding friends who are really good at stuff like that. Yes. And they kind of take care of it for me. Here's the blessing of having a lot of kids.
Starting point is 00:01:58 Yeah. People don't ask you to do anything because they think you're too busy. Oh, that's great. So I've actually gotten away with not having to do a lot. thought, but I always find the people that I think are good at stuff like that, and they'll find the way to do it without spending as much money or spending as much time on it. Well, my mother, mother of five, that is, that exact thing, though, was she, on the other hand, didn't want to owe anyone a favor.
Starting point is 00:02:24 So she continued to drive carpool for the school, because they went to Catholic school, so there weren't buses, and you had to drive a carpool for, like, the kids on your street. Right after she gave birth to me, and she felt. asleep at the wheel. What? Yes. Because she was so sleep deprived and you know and my brothers were you know in the car and they're like I think she's dead and she's like no I'm alive and they're like no the hamster that we took home from school like they were just everything was just chaotic and so she survived and did fine in life
Starting point is 00:02:57 but it was because she was like I just didn't want to owe any other mother or anything so I wasn't going to take off a week of the carpool. Yeah I guess this is the way of people were. And now they just know not to ask the mother of five to do anything. So I love that for you. You know, when I was dealing with Brandon moving in, I kind of hired a mom. I found a juicy scooper. I reached, I kind of was like, I just need someone to help. She came down and we were moving up to Oregon. So a lot of people thought he had lesbian moms, which was great. They were like, they just thought we were a couple. And so we moved and she helped with all the things. But Now there's actually, you can hire an Alabama mom.
Starting point is 00:03:40 What? Yes, you can hire. There's a whole business now. So you're a mom, you've gone through it, you're an empty nest or whatever the case is. Yes. And for a service fee a month, you can have this mom check on your daughter. You can help, she can help with move in. She can check it.
Starting point is 00:03:59 There's like a tiered thing. One includes grocery shopping, doing the laundry, folding your clothes, checking on them, doing welfare checks on them, and everything to keep you at home peace of mind. So you have a hire a mom situation. Okay, this would be good for me if I could have them just show up and like yell at her to clean stuff up. I do think I've prepared her to be independent because she has said to me that when she goes on trips, like dance trips or something that the other girls seem to call their mothers more and she doesn't really call me that much. And I think it's because I went away to boarding school when I was 14. So I was already used to not, even when I went to
Starting point is 00:04:41 college, my friends would go, call me when you get in from the bar. And I'd be like, why? Do you remember the blind side with Sandra Bullock based on the true story? In it, Kathy Bates played the tutor that they hired for their adoptive son, adopted son. And when they got him into, I think it was Old Miss. I can't remember where the, I think you are right. Yeah. And Kathy's like, Kathy Bates character is like, I'm going with you. They got me a condo because they were so. rich and she was going to be his personal tutor helper throughout the whole time and I remember going oh my god I wonder if more like really wealthy parents do that just for peace of mind knowing that their kid won't miss class I mean there's a lot of things where I'm like that I've learned over
Starting point is 00:05:21 the years and with three kids in college like when's the deadline where you can drop the class and pick another or drop the class to get your money back or drop the class and not get the W. Like what are those dead lines? Like you and so anyway, good luck with all that. I'm glad my time is almost done. Is listening to this is watching this and they live near Ole Miss and you want to be friends with Kate. Please reach out to me. Please. Yeah, she's, they're actually going to go to the Vanderbilt Ole Miss game this weekend. Fun. She's really excited and she's got the whole outfit. I think it's a whole way to kind of get the vibe of it. Yeah. All right. Well, there's some sad news in the reality world. Whitney vows of, and I don't mean to do her voice, but I can't help talking about her
Starting point is 00:06:07 without saying it. She is on Real House of the Salt Lake City. She and her husband, it's actually her second husband. Right. But I don't think she, she didn't have any kids with her first husband. They met working on at a job, at an MLM type of job. Now, was he her boss? Yes. And he's 20 years older. I don't know if he's 20. I don't know if he's 20. He looks pretty good if it's 20. Because she's like four, she just turned 40. If he's only 60, maybe he's 60. He looks good. Anyway, they are getting divorced. She filed today. And she filed first. And I have a theory. Okay. Okay. That it just came out today. Okay. Because on Real Housewives of Roney, of New York, the new one, the new cast.
Starting point is 00:06:58 Sy has been on the show since the inception of the new cast. And I'm just going to go over to that one. Sye here. On last night's episode, which just aired on Bravo last night, she shares how she was, you know, we see in the first couple of years leading up
Starting point is 00:07:17 that she's separated and she's having trouble with her husband. She doesn't know what she's going to do, but she's been lying to herself that the marriage is good. And in that episode, we see how she says, I'm getting ready to go on this trip
Starting point is 00:07:30 at the one girl's private island. And that's when my phone starts going crazy that my husband, who she just thought they were separated, he was going to watch the kids for a week at their other home, he files for divorce. And she was blindsided,
Starting point is 00:07:47 not blindsided, but she was just surprised that that's the way it's done. But it's very rare that two people are completely on the same page. And if you're seeing an attorney, they might be like, you be the one. So I think that Whitney saw it last night, had everything ready to go. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:04 And was like, you know what? I'm going to be the one to file first. I'm not going to be humiliated and have Justin do it. And that's what I think happened. So everything was locked and loaded. I think everything was locked and loaded. Like she'd seen it to her, everything. And all she'd do was just like fire the missile.
Starting point is 00:08:19 Like go to the courthouse this morning. And I literally think she was watching last night. I just think it's very coincidental. It doesn't matter, you know, like it would have happened anyway, but I just think that is telling. Because it didn't look good. It didn't look bad. In some ways, it looked good that sigh didn't file. Because then you were like, well, you were trying and he finally was like, I'm going to beat you to it.
Starting point is 00:08:46 I'm going to, you know. But then she was so put off by it while filming because she was like, I'm sorry, I'm like in a really weird place. like I was just kind of like surprised. Like I think she knew was inevitable, but she didn't. She didn't expect him to do it. Her stuff's really hard for me to follow. The fact that she was not being honest from the very beginning, it's just like, I need, I need some, a period of cooling with her.
Starting point is 00:09:12 I just have a hard time believing anything in her life. Yeah. She's like kind of all my nerves about that. But Whitney, going back to Whitney's going to be way more exciting. Seeing her date now. Listen. She's going to have a, I bet. you or she's going to be much more fun on that show. I think that they were the sexy couple that
Starting point is 00:09:29 met, you know, in an unconventional, scandalous way. We fell in love. Justin was by everything. They have two great kids. And, you know, he got fired allegedly or not allegedly because they agreed to do a scene for Salt Lake where they did, got in their underage. underwear and did sexy paint with two sweating cameraman in the room as they rolled around and did like twister, just the two of them. And whatever that corporate job was that he had at the high level of whatever MLM, they're like, goodbye, Justin. And then she was trying to have her own line Whitney Rose cosmetics. And she said, I had a meaning. It became a little more clear. She said, I had a meaning to maybe be an Alta and Sephora.
Starting point is 00:10:25 And then he came to her and said, listen, we're going to make more money if we stick with this MLM route. I'm sure he convinced her. With all your followers, they'll all want to sell your product and everything. And so she said okay to him. It failed. And then she was like, you, I don't like that you controlled my business and I didn't get to do what I wanted to do.
Starting point is 00:10:46 So there was resentment there. and when I saw her at the Kyle White Party for Ultimate Girls' trip, she's like, I'm here, I'm working on some really exciting stuff for Wild Rose Beauty. Things are going to change. I can't talk about it, but it's really exciting news. And that was like back in January. And I don't know what is happening with Wild Rose Beauty, but. Well, if there is something going on, I would think that she would want it to be announced while the show was airing to maximize it.
Starting point is 00:11:18 So, um, by the way, it's kind of interesting. He has this background in MLM. He convinces her to go that route. At that point, you're like, I married someone much older. He thinks like this is the modern way of doing business, which is totally outdated. Right. I'm turning 40. These are the like the best TV years of my life.
Starting point is 00:11:43 I got a jump ship. Right. And she's, she's gorgeous. And, you know, she could still have a whole other life. She could still have another. I don't think she wants to have another baby, but she could still have another baby. Yeah. And she even said on the show, like, I didn't have my wild period.
Starting point is 00:11:59 Well, no, because you were having an affair with the guy that you ended up marrying while you were married to someone else. So, no, you didn't have your dating wild period. I definitely think there were rumors that there were swingers. I definitely think they dabbled in some exciting sex life stuff. When everyone talks about people being swingers, it just sounds like a lot. of work exactly really do this all I know is that I know someone who told me firsthand okay okay that they were at some event with Justin and Whitney and they had another they had a couple that they brought that was their friends
Starting point is 00:12:37 and this person single woman got together with the couple that they brought the single person did not get together with Justin and Whitney but the single girl had a threesome with this other couple that was friends with them. And it was a good time, apparently. And I was kind of shocked. I was like, I didn't know you're into that. But I was like, that kind of tracks. It doesn't mean that they were part of it,
Starting point is 00:13:01 but that they'd be friends with people that would be down to do something like that, you know? Or do you think in reflection, the two of them look at that, like, we were already kind of sick at each other at some point. And we had to add a little flavor in just to like to keep our eyeballs open. Well, if the relationship started really, truly sexually, it started as a working boss thing. And then it was a sexual, by the way, scandalous thing. Very troubling. Right.
Starting point is 00:13:27 And then it happened as a scandalous thing. Then it's based in like real passion versus like a regular couple that dates. They have sex. They fall in love. They have fun. They do things. 18 months later, they get engaged. They, you know, then get married a year later.
Starting point is 00:13:45 and they have the first baby and like, it's just like a different trajectory. High stakes. Yeah, high stakes, high passion. Yeah. If you meet that way and it's all about hot sex, you know, behind closed doors, how do you maintain any interest in this relationship?
Starting point is 00:14:00 Of course, they're gonna like add people into the bedroom. And then of course, then you add the housewives, which is the number one killer of all kind of shitty marriages. Like, I mean, if it was kind of a shitty marriage. Yeah. Without the show, it might have, had just stayed shitty into your golden years and then and then mellowed out. Do you remember the more you know on ABC?
Starting point is 00:14:22 Yeah, yes, yeah. She should do the more you know. Never sleep with your boss. Do do, do, do, do, do. Yeah. Well, these should all, by the way, housewives could do that. They could do a whole series of the more you know. The good news is for Justin.
Starting point is 00:14:39 We've seen a lot of husbands that we are like, we hate them. Bronwyn being one. Right. get rid of the grumpy character from up. I don't hate this guy. I don't hate that guy. He was a smiley, happy, supportive guy. He came to everything. I can't even remember.
Starting point is 00:14:55 Maybe there was one little thing where he was defending his wife and getting involved in some argument with some other dad. I don't even remember. It wasn't significant. In the realm of like. Lisa Barlow's husband. Okay. In the realm of like husbands and housewives that have not been portrayed well,
Starting point is 00:15:13 one out of ten, ten being. who is like our favorite, who would be number one, who it would have to be someone that did not get divorced, number one favorite presenting house husband that we liked. I'm going to say it was Maricio, before they broke up. I'm going to say throughout all those years, Maricio came off fun, attentive, nice,
Starting point is 00:15:36 never got in a fight with any other housewife or house husband. Lisa Barlow's husband's better. Lisa Barlow's husband's great. Because Lisa Barlow's husband would never be on dancing with a story. stars. So we don't, like, I think there was an ick factor with Lericio. Yeah, okay, let's give Lisa Barlow's husband number one. John Barlow is the patron saint of Salt Lake City. He seems like a very good person and not a first child. I want to say Ken of Lisa Vanderpump because he always had her back and her dog. He always, if you're just looking at like a husband
Starting point is 00:16:07 who stood by was there when she needed him, you know, always had her back and like it was it was the Lisa show. He was pretty great. He had a couple moments where he got nasty to like a couple people back earlier in the day. Then he stayed out of it. Yeah, I kind of think those might be the best. Like, I can't even think. They're on the better end.
Starting point is 00:16:30 I was just thinking, at first. Bobby Zerrin always came off great. He always came off great. Yeah. Like, there are, I mean, there's not a lot because so many people get divorced. And we're always going to be on the girl's side if she gets divorced. going to ask me who was the worst of all time let's talk let's talk worst not technically married but the worst person ever yeah Lou Knickerbocker oh he died
Starting point is 00:16:55 who cares he was weird that's Tammy Knickerbocker's husband who did the angel water with his daughters and her friends this is OC this is very you have to be hardcore real house vice to even know what we're talking about he felt very ick like he's in some files Yeah, right. Well, okay, so we knew it was coming. I kind of thought. I think they're both going to meet other people and be really happy. But there was a glimmer.
Starting point is 00:17:24 There was a glimmer of when they did that scene where we're living in two different rooms or whatever. Yeah. That I thought maybe they're not in trouble. And maybe they're like, you know what, let's play this out. But we also really do need a break. Let's test it out. Let's play it out. It'll be a good storyline.
Starting point is 00:17:44 So I was hopeful that this truly was a separation which they could sort of come back from because he didn't move out of the house and it's part of the show and let's see what we can do. And then, you know, I mean, Meredith and Seth, they should be the poster children for taking a sexual sabbatical from your spouse and still staying married. Because, you know, she didn't deny, right? when Lisa Barlow was like sleeping with all of New York and your fucking whore. Like she was mad that she said it, but she was like, yeah, we were separated and Seth and I have made it work now. We got it out of our system. We scratched the edge. And now we're, you know, in a bathtub together again.
Starting point is 00:18:29 By the way, he's not bothering me that much either. Seth makes fun of her and I kind of like that. When he was called her, like you smother our children. I thought that was funny. I think Seth and John are delights. I talked to them at a party during BravoCon. And they're so, were so nice and normal.
Starting point is 00:18:47 They seem normal. The women were doing some other event. And they didn't care. So I had a moment to talk to Seth and he said, he goes, it's really funny. He's like everybody else said what he said. He goes, everybody on the show realizes they're on a show, but my wife.
Starting point is 00:19:03 And that's why she gets so upset. So he basically was saying a lot of it is, in my opinion, pretty performative by these other people. But she is like, how dare you brutalize my family? Like she would get really upset. And now I kind of feel like this season either she can't get upset because of the facelift being fresh and looking amazing. But I also just feel like now she gets it. And now she's like, let me sail off into DJing and caviar bumps and my kids being successful and me having stayed married and like I'm not going to let this shit bother me anymore.
Starting point is 00:19:39 Dustin from Sacred Symbols here, you know when you're in the middle of a heavy recording session, editing a show, or just trying to get real work done on the go, and your laptop starts slowing down or burning up in your lap? It's the worst. So what does it actually feel like to switch over to a better laptop, like the Dell XPS powered by Intel Core? For starters, it's built with a premium design that's incredibly thin and light, so it feels smooth, meaning far less weight on your shoulders when you're packing up for travel. Then you open it up and the responsive touchscreen makes scrolling, zooming, and swiping feel completely fast and precise. Everything just flows.
Starting point is 00:20:15 Best of all, with its long-lasting battery life, it feels like non-stop energy. You get a better way to work without being chained to a charger all day. Build for those who want better. The DellXPS built for you. Do you think fame has ruined a lot of the housewives, though? Like, when I think about the first season, I love that it was like, they were like, lovable buffoons. Delusions of grandeur with the fact that, you know, when Ramona had people over and Jill was pissed, like they all had these connections to each other, but they also had no
Starting point is 00:20:54 idea how people perceive them. And so they were authentically themselves. A hundred percent. And I think that's, and I think that's, and I think that they, and now it's kind of ruined. And I think they as, we'll go over here, as the, as the golden, the legends are back. They're on the cover of us weekly and they're wearing these goddess white dress. is this is Ramona Luann Sonia Kelly Bessamone and Derinda all coming back for the e-show which is the Golden Life yeah I think they they came on authentically and of a lot of housewives have come on authentically but have changed yeah produced right have gotten their heads blown out of their you know think they're more important the others they never
Starting point is 00:21:38 did they're still funny they're talented they're funny if the character are on or off. So I think that's really great. And I think, you know, people are really excited. My friend Chris worked on it. Can someone tell me how, how are I going to watch E? I have no idea how I'm going to watch E on what? I don't know yet. Stream or net? I have no idea. I think it'll, I don't know. Well, somebody better tell me. Okay. But my friend Chris worked on that show and he said he laughed so much. The golden life. Yeah. He said it, it was so much fun to make and just easy. They're just easy to work with, he said. Yeah. Yeah. They're pros and they're down to earth. And yes, they're, they're not, like the complaints about them as being one percenters and not totally aware
Starting point is 00:22:23 and boomers and not being politically correct, politically correct. That's what we wanted to watch. We wanted to watch people that lived a life that we didn't live. And then there was that period where people were angry that they were the way they were. And I'm like, you want an authentic person and you're trying so hard to make sure that they, if they do trip up and if they do say something that could be offensive to somebody, like, get on fire. And like that whole thing was so dumb because it's like, now they're on E. Now they're on E. Yeah, that's true. I remember him telling me that he would just call Sonia and say, you know, know we need to record you know and she just let let them in like she didn't have a bra on no
Starting point is 00:23:10 makeup like morning breath no one would ever do that again yeah she doesn't care that i love yeah um okay so let's go back to um so salt lake i mean i can't really it's good i can't really remember what the last episode was what did that what were they doing wasn't anything too dramatic oh no the new girl the new girl who's not in this poster So she was friends with Whitney where they she is her former her sister-in-law who passed away was Whitney's best friend. So her husband's sister is the girl that passed away. Yes. Okay.
Starting point is 00:23:53 So she's very pretty. And she comes on the show. And she was a makeup artist or something that met this rich guy. And so she's wealthy. very wealthy, building this big house. And, you know, it was just, they go to San Francisco for St. Patrick's Day. And it was, production-wise, it was just a lot of, we sit down and we get you to talk, say something about somebody. Then we misconstrue it. We tell that person, so then you're mad. Then you confront that person. It's a lot of, you said this about me. No, I didn't. Well, so-and-so told me.
Starting point is 00:24:35 me that you said it what you said it wrong flashback it was a little bit wrong but not totally wrong well now i'm upset and now it's like it's a lot of you know he she said what she said and she said and you said and you said you don't like me and i said well i do like you but i don't like you when you do that and it's like come on but you got to have i guess you they feel you got to have it so i don't know i i feel like all of the shows i just want to see someone in their life yeah you know what i did like on Real House of Orange County the last episode. The one thing that I actually thought was interesting was listening to Heather and Terry
Starting point is 00:25:12 talk about their aging parents and taking care of them. But then Heather talked about what it was like to grow up in her own house, how her sister was perceived, I think she said, as like the smart one and she was the performer. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:24 Then I'm like, okay, that's useful information. Now I understand her a little bit better. Then I thought, in the scenes where she's with her mom, sometimes it seems like she gets frustrated at her mom, like her mom dismisses the things that she says. And then it makes me think about all the moments she's had with Terry on the show where it may have come across as she was being too sensitive or he made her feel like she was being too sensitive. And then I thought, well, that makes sense because probably when she was growing up, her mom kind of just like dismissed her.
Starting point is 00:25:56 I remember I took this parenting class and they said that's like the worst thing that you can do is start, even if you think it's positive, is to label your kids as like, well, your brother's the mass genius, but you're the dancer. Or you're the one who's good in literature, but your sister's really the scientist. Well, I've told you that's what my mom did. My mom was like, you're the smart one, but your sister is the beautiful one. But that was what happened in her own house. She was the smart one.
Starting point is 00:26:23 And my aunt was like the one who was the golden child. So I think a lot of parents kind of duplicate it without realizing it too. I think our generation is better. Well, my mom was just obsessed that my sister, she had five kids and only one had blue eyes, which was my sister Shannon. So she would buy us like similar, like the same outfit. And Shannon's was always in blue and mine was just whatever other color came into. And then one day I just like jokingly said it to my mom.
Starting point is 00:26:51 Like I guess she'll never buy me anything blue because I don't have blue eyes or whatever. It was like a knife to her heart. And she was like after that I got everything in blue. and you kind of realized it. And I just don't, I mean, obviously it wasn't a big deal, but it is kind of that I know people kind of do it and they think that it's like a way for your kids not to be competitive,
Starting point is 00:27:11 but you're kind of diminishing their potential. Or their individuality, but I was telling you that on top of that, my mom used to say to me because my parents were separated by the time I was born, they were never together. And I'm obviously blonde and blue-eyed and fair skin and my sister looks more like you. So it seemed like with your sister.
Starting point is 00:27:32 My sister has olive skin, brown hair and brown eyes. But my mom would say, your father didn't think that you were really his child because you don't look like him. And then she would say, like, she was the golden child. Megan, it was like, it was as if she was Cindy Crawford at our house. Like she would walk through and I'm like this like pale girl. And I was like, so that when my, I met up with my dad finally when I was 32, my sister. sister found him and I flew to Philadelphia to meet up with him. I was trying to get the cover of
Starting point is 00:28:03 the straw to get his DNA because I was like still convinced. I'm like and did you? So well first of all I was like Robert Redford may be my my father. So I kept asking my mom did you have an affair and she'd say unfortunately I didn't. Okay. So okay so I try to get the straw but he kept the cover on the straw. I took a 23 in me test and then this person that looked unusual you know I didn't. I didn't didn't recognize, was listed. His name was Alan. I said, do you by any chance? No.
Starting point is 00:28:34 Paul. Yeah. And he said, oh, yeah, he's like this crazy, like, second cousin in our, you know, like, everyone in the family talks about how weird is. And then I was like, okay. Shit. Also, when I met him, the one thing was that I have this weird memory, you know, that, like, I remember details about people.
Starting point is 00:28:50 And my dad has about dates and history. Like, he can tell you anything about English, Irish history. And then I found out that superior recall is in every generation. It just shows up differently. And that was the other thing. Superior recalling memories. Yeah. Like my grandmother could read sheet music.
Starting point is 00:29:10 Yeah. My dad is it with history, but I have it with details about people, which is why you can text me and go, what was the made for TV movie starring Tori Spelling in, you know, in, you know, 1983. And I remember it. But, yeah, I did not look like him. And that was the message that was like, well, you know, you're the smart one. you're not the beautiful one and also he didn't really think you were his that is just awful yeah
Starting point is 00:29:32 and now I have these five kids that look like carbon copies and I think it was because god was throwing me a bone yeah and they're like I'm not I'm gonna make it so easy that no one has to say to you I'm like because people my whole life have been like are you sure your sisters you look so different but then if we're in the same room our voices are exactly the same that's like my sister and I yeah but it's yeah but when I look at you and your sister, I think your faces are the same. Some people say that. Then when I saw your mom's picture, I mean, I have never seen a daughter look. You know what?
Starting point is 00:30:02 You're almost like the Cindy Crawford, Kyah Gerber. That's like you and your mom. Oh, that's so sweet. I think she's a lot prettier than I am. But getting back to this thing with the real house as of O.C., I agree with you. I thought it was interesting. I think, you know, Heather, it was, Heather needed to bring in the big guns, which is her mother. for this season.
Starting point is 00:30:21 She did bring her in, but she did also move her out here. Yeah. So I thought that was great. And then it was funny. She's like, we're going to have an art show for you. I didn't realize the mom was an artist. And I think her artwork is really good.
Starting point is 00:30:32 And the mom's like, well, finally. And I did think her daughter's been famous. Even before Housewives, she was a successful actress. She's been really famous since Housewives for like whatever it's been 17 years. And never once, like, highlighted her mother's art. But that's the, that. That precisely is exactly why I watch these shows. Yeah, why the mom would be like I have a little bit of like, well, finally, you know.
Starting point is 00:30:58 But maybe her mom was married to a husband who kind of dismissed her too. Well, he was always in Porta Varda. Porta Vallarta. Anyway, I think getting on this show, we've talked to some about it, but I just want to, you know, listen, I know we're not supposed to talk about people's kids. Kids are off limits, but we, if we're talking about the housewise, part of them, as being a mom and a parent. And I am so sick of hearing Emily be annoyed by her kids. Kids are annoying.
Starting point is 00:31:30 It happens, okay? And it's constant, not just with Luke. Oh, Luke kept calling me. Look, I couldn't even have a good time at the Persian party. Look how many times Luke called me. Luke has to stay at home because this is too much for him. You know, Annabelle's annoying. Go, what, you're eating too much.
Starting point is 00:31:48 Go away. leave us alone Annabelle. I'm like, how's Annabel going to think when she sees this thing? And I am like, listen, I know it's her job now. It's her career. But if something happens with the show and she doesn't continue, I hope she sees it as a life's rejection is God's protection thing and just dive into the next five years of her life, seeing if maybe being present, maybe if not being on TV will help with this child.
Starting point is 00:32:19 I'm sorry that I'm talking about it, but that's all she's talked about for three years. So I wonder in hearing her complain about it in interviews and everything, and that he, I know it's like a real thing called pandas and an eating disorder, but I just wonder if the fact that, you know, he realized a couple years ago that he's on TV and then his mom's on TV, if this doesn't have some effect. And I hope to God that it gets better. but I mean I'm just going to say it I wonder if why wouldn't have something
Starting point is 00:32:54 to do with it kids develop things when their parents get divorced kids develop things when they move kids develop something when they have like a terminally little parent I don't know is that an awful thing to say maybe it is how are they like has she's been on the show six seasons so like what seven years the twins are like 10 or 11 and the Annabelle's like 13 or 14 so I'm remembering the ultimate girls trip conversation
Starting point is 00:33:18 where Kyle said, Portia really doesn't have any memory of life without cameras. Her daughter, Portia. Yeah. I wonder if her, Emily's kids. They were like three-year-old twins when it started. They were really little. They were like three or four years old.
Starting point is 00:33:34 I wonder, too, then, when they're not asked back and the cameras go away, if that's weird. I think kids love it. I was really good friends with Bronwyn while she was filming Orange County, and her kids were really little. Yeah. And the cameras were like a big part of their life.
Starting point is 00:33:50 And she loved being on a TV show. She had a hard time when the cameras went away. Yeah. She had a whole identity crisis. Well, she was one of the housewives. She's now married to a woman and looks very different from when she's still pretty, but looks very different. She's so happy. One of the things she said is I feel like all that stuff I was doing for maintenance,
Starting point is 00:34:11 I was trying to make myself look attractive for a man. It was interesting. And I don't have to do it anymore. When I saw her and she's wearing like this kind of cool green dress, she's at Tamara's party where Tamara invite all these old housewives for her Vena event, which is very smart of her to do. And I'm like, they show Broadway and I'm like, you know what it's like when you see somebody you're like, did we go to high school together? I'm like, why does she look familiar? Because I haven't seen her on my TV in so long. And you just kind of like look because she used to have the typical long blonde hair of hair extensions and the boobs out and all this.
Starting point is 00:34:44 and now she's just like looks very like at peace and cool. And yeah, that was kind of interesting. And so then, yeah, like there was the Lynn Curtin showed up and Quinn showed up. And who else from the past? Oh, Gina Keio. Gina. And who you always call Gina Keeno. So I always press count names.
Starting point is 00:35:05 Gina Keo. Keo. Yeah. And so that was interesting, you know, because it was like, here she is. And remember that was, that was the scene between Gina. and Tamara is what changed the trajectory of the show. I agree. With fighting,
Starting point is 00:35:21 which was Tamara was going through a divorce with Simon. She found out that Gina was talking to Simon and was like, don't talk to my ex-husband why I'm going through this. So that's when she sends the cease and desist and at the party and they get an argument and Tamara throws the wine in Gina's face. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:43 And which was preceded by her telling Simon, I want to divorce in the limo. No, no, no. That was a different party. I was going to say, wow. That was the previous. That is like an epic episode. That was the previous season. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:35:56 And that was how that season ended. Then they were going through the divorce. And then she threw the drink at her. Yeah, like not only where is your loyalty, but you're actually baiting him. And then she said she was so freaked out after she did that. She didn't take. her makeup off in case she got arrested and she had to go to prison she wanted to look cute so she was scared she'd get in trouble for that throwing the wine that's what i remember but they of course made up
Starting point is 00:36:23 and she came and for her free apps and free vina drinks and you know got to be on tv and was she doing okay i mean i think at that point she hadn't been diagnosed so i don't know how she's doing because she's sick but um anyway that you know that was about it and then and then and then Alexis Bolino gets invited. She comes with John Jansen. And, you know, you have to say, if this wasn't a TV show, and this is no diss to Alex Belino or John or, you know, Tamara. But like, there's no way you could get your husband to go to a party where his ex-girlfriend
Starting point is 00:37:04 who he was involved in a lawsuit with was there. And you have to tell the new husband, oh, it's also going to involve you getting in a full-blown tuxedo. No way. No guy wants to wear. No guy is like, you know what I would love to do tonight? Go to a formal event. Like no man wants to do that if they don't have to do it. Where she said she paid him to show up. Did I see that right? Who said that? Alexis said she had to page on to show up or something. I feel like I saw that somewhere. There's no way that she would say that. But I'm also like if you're married, who like, how are you paying? Huh? Well, anyway, getting, going to. Like when Sai said that thing about
Starting point is 00:37:42 her husband, they went out to dinner for her birthday and they had great sex. And then she found out that at the dinner, he used her credit card. I was like, she married. So, like, what's the big deal? Well, that's probably why they also broke up is that when the, because they, the money wasn't theirs together, you know, and she had a chip on her shoulder that this brand deal money is mine and did it, you know, and he was probably feeling whatever. But then also she's probably feeling like, step up to the plate, you know, don't get so
Starting point is 00:38:10 comfortable and you know whatever so that was probably didn't help the situation but on ultimate girls trip it was um i feel like this is like too many episodes it just ended no i know i think it was too many i liked it i think it could have been like one or two shorter i i really liked it i thought it was fun to watch and um yeah i was going to i was going to say about what was i'm just going to say about the oh so when it was like who gets to get invited to these parties and who doesn't from each franchise right right and i don't know how it was i don't know if it was the producers or each girl got to have two people or they decided what because like heather gay got to show up in atlanta right and i don't know if that then got her an invitation to the two parties later which
Starting point is 00:39:03 was the stone to come after leis barlo i don't think so because erin leachie said in an interview that they were asked to go to the Berkshires weeks in advance. Okay. To plan it out. Yeah, because she was making fun of Jessel because she said Jessel was invited last minute or weasled her way and drove from New York City to the Berkshires and then drove back. Well, it's my understanding from my sources that if you got invited to go to the party,
Starting point is 00:39:30 if you weren't one of the cast members, you got five grand. Okay, good. So from all the parties, you got five grand. If they invited you, you got five grand. Now, I think there might have been some people they didn't have to pay $5,000, too. But if they, you know, and then there were some people that just were not invited. They just did not invite them even though they would have been a draw. Because I was like, why wasn't Ramona at any of the New York things?
Starting point is 00:39:56 And maybe it's, who knows why, but and Sonia too, because I think they would have gone for $5,000. But maybe not. That's a lot of women in one room. And if you are wanting to be the star of the show. Right. And you're like, oh, forget it. I'm already filming something else. I'm already filming Golden Life.
Starting point is 00:40:12 I don't need to do this. They've treated me like shit. I don't need to show up to be an extra. Because a lot of them were like extras. They were not featured at all. So it's like they should have, the only reason they should go is like, I really love going to these parties. I'm going to work this trip around something else. I'm going to go.
Starting point is 00:40:29 It's a great thing. You know, all of that. Now, I think a great moment in it was. when Andy did bring Teresa and Melissa together. Because this has been the what the contentious, contention between Teresa of New Jersey and Melissa Gorga has always been a she said, she said, and I've heard from both of them personally. According to Teresa, she was on the show and she had no idea that they had hired Melissa
Starting point is 00:41:05 until she got a call and said they've been hired. And then they didn't ask her about it and she didn't want it because she knew that the show would expose fighting or something. Even though they weren't really fighting with siblings back then because she came on second season. But Melissa has said that she let her know they want to interview me and that Teresa said, good, go ahead. It's fine, whatever.
Starting point is 00:41:37 See what you can do. But I was like, from the very beginning, I was like, I could see why Teresa was like, this is my thing. And I don't want you guys on it. And I could see why Melissa was like, well, they want me. And I'm not going to turn down an opportunity when I've been the girl that, you know, was in the dance recitals and everything. And I like to be on display, on display.
Starting point is 00:41:59 And my husband obviously likes being a star. He's doing stand-up. He loves the TV light. So they were like jealous. And I think the first year she didn't really like invite them or feature them. I'm not sure. Someone said, no, they were in the background of one of the parties or whatever. I think they were in the background.
Starting point is 00:42:16 So then when she comes to the christening, which is the beginning of the second season, she said, Teresa, that it was, it felt like it came out of nowhere, how he was like, walk away, you piece of trash. And she's like, I just want to say congratulations. She felt that it was like, that he was doing. That he was doing, he was trying to have his flip the table moment. And that he was so angry. I could see how that would be.
Starting point is 00:42:39 And all of that to just like start it off on a thing. But now that they're at this place, I think it took them realizing that the show is going to be canceled if we don't make up. And I think they finally came together and they're like, look, we should come together for our kids. But we also want to keep this show going. We have a lot of bills that we need to pay. A lot of those that we need to pay. And we have a big mortgage and kids in college. And I do believe that, you know, as time goes on and you enter your 50s, which Teresa is there, I think, is you just, I think she just kind of was like, who cares?
Starting point is 00:43:20 I mean, I'm sure they still hate each other. But they, for the sake of wanting to be on television and the money and opportunities that come for it. And or maybe just the knowledge of like, I'm not going to give it anymore. I'm not going to give what they want for me anymore. like getting so angry and getting upset and, you know, I'm not doing anymore. I'll be on the show. I feel like Teresa looks exhausted. She just feel, I feel like she's just like.
Starting point is 00:43:44 I think she's actually like quiet our life. I think she actually really is like a calm person. Like when I've had conversations with her, she really is like kind of a slow talker, honestly, and is just sort of like chill. And so I think that's the really. Teresa. So in other words it requires a lot of her to
Starting point is 00:44:07 yeah because someone she never I know somebody who's worked on that show and they said she's like three beats behind and she never watched she wouldn't watch the show. Yeah which you have to right and she won't watch the show so that it's like and then I think she was just hearing things from other people and then would get upset
Starting point is 00:44:24 and she's like wait what? But yeah I remember like I looked through like some DMs that I had with her and I was went back and I watched the old thing and I was kind of like, oh my God, this would be so upsetting because in the beginning, Melissa was quite snarky in her confessions and stuff about Teresa. And I'm sure they were poking her to do that. I was just going to say this. In the middle of this are people who work on the show and encircle the show who are winding them up. And I hope that the two of them have had conversations
Starting point is 00:44:55 about that, the realization that there were outsiders that probably made this infinitely worse. When I had Patrick McDonald on, I saw somebody do a video about that podcast. And I can't recall who she is, but thank you for doing because I thought it was kind of profound. She's like, I just listened to Heather McDonald's, you know, episode about this. And she's like, I just realized that the reason the show is all the way they are is because there's these male producers, you know, and predominantly gay. Not that that matters, but that were kind of got. the instructions to go in this direction. And once the train was on the track, they couldn't stop it. And that was fighting. She said this about you. What if you, you know, like constantly kind of like
Starting point is 00:45:42 putting it up. Like I remember the first time I was at like Heather Debrose's groundbreaking party off to the side was a producer telling Heather. Now, aren't you upset that so and so was late at the last thing? And I was like, oh, they're like prodding them to be mad about something in real life. If you were a housewife or you were friends with the other mothers at school, you just wouldn't dwell on somebody being 30 minutes late to your party. You know, like you wouldn't like, but because it's like this is what we have to do now. We have to be mad. I also wonder if there was somebody who would talk to Melissa and say, you got to go on this show.
Starting point is 00:46:19 I mean, you're much more entertaining than she is. Look how she's done you wrong. Like, well, apparently it was Dan. Winding her up. Apparently it was Danielle. Well, that's a problem. it was Danielle. There were emails between Danielle and Melissa that then Teresa saw that was all this behind the scenes, not being honest. So Teresa's argument was like, why wouldn't she have just come
Starting point is 00:46:43 to me and been like, hey, I want to be on the show. We want to be on the show. You know, they're coming to us and like, let's make this really fun and we could be on it too. Yeah. But I think they were like, if we did that also, oh, they also said that the producer said, don't tell her. I'm sure. And so they're following the rules of producer. They're all these other people involved. And they're like, if you tell her, then we may not be able to get you on the show. Right. And they really want to be in the show.
Starting point is 00:47:09 They're seeing how big of a star she is. She's on covers of magazine. Yeah. She's getting all this money. And they're two like thirst buckets in the best possible way. They're funny and entertaining to watch. So they're like, we want to do it too. Like, and they want us.
Starting point is 00:47:25 So like, what's the problem? Well, also there are people saying this is really a franchise which is all about families. So it's going to be much better. Teresa's actually going to look even better because her family's brought in. And they probably said whatever issues you guys have, you'll be able to work it out. You all get to be on TV. And your parents get to be on TV. And see what a great Italian-American family is about.
Starting point is 00:47:46 And we'll take you to Italy and you can go back to the homeland and the village. Right. And look at the manzo's how well it worked with them having multiple siblings on it. Me-Mil Teresa and Melissa are sleeping in their beds at night with like one eyeball open, like come back to the mic. You know? Yeah. They're like wired. But now they said, we're going to make it work.
Starting point is 00:48:04 But we'll see. Maybe it'll be a great season. Maybe it'll be kind of dull. Who knows? Okay, getting, let me see. So was there anything? I thought it was fun. I liked the show in the end.
Starting point is 00:48:17 I really enjoyed Jocel on it. I thought she was really great. And Portia. I thought they were all great. And even though Vicki was a Debbie Downer with her bum knee, I thought she added to the entertainment of the show. and the combination of all of them and Luan and everything.
Starting point is 00:48:35 I did think there was a kind of a funny moment where the Rhode Island girls come. Nobody knows who they are because the show hasn't aired. But they're in the middle of filming their show, so they're fighting like it's the show. And then Derinda's like, you're not going to have episode six during my party.
Starting point is 00:48:50 This is about Bluestone Manor. I have a beautiful party. We're the seniors. You're the freshman. And you've got to respect us and not, go take it out of them. the lawn. Take a cameraman with you. That's not what we're doing here. And it was kind of like, here you have this opportunity to like learn from the best. Yeah. But it was good. Okay, real housewives
Starting point is 00:49:14 of New York. How are you feeling about it? I liked the last episode, the fact that they're on this private island and they're talking shit about the house. That makes me laugh. You know what? One of my favorite TikTok videos is somebody who has three cents in their bank account, like walking through a neighborhood and being critical of a million-dollar mansions that they can't afford. That's funny to me. That's basically what they were doing. Right. Like someone's like, I would never want a modern farmhouse. I would die if I had to live in a modern farmhouse. I'm like, oh, you die if you live in a brand new house. Right, exactly. That was, you know, listing price of $6 million. I would much rather have a classic. And I don't like those. I don't like the doorway. I don't like the frame of that. I don't
Starting point is 00:49:59 like they're landscaping. Yeah. Like that, those are my, so I liked it for that reason. So for people not watching, they go this one girl who is like a kickboxer or something.
Starting point is 00:50:09 She, um, she wasn't also a wrestler, was she? No, no, no, no,
Starting point is 00:50:13 she was like a fitness person. And she falls in love with this young guy whose family and he are billionaires. And they have this island out in the Virgin Islands. It's called Mosquito Island. Very close to Epstein Island.
Starting point is 00:50:27 It's a cross. It's a cross from Necker Island. which is Richard Branson's island. So Richard Branson actually own the island, and then he sold parts of it. So there are seven or eight families that have properties, and it's like an HOA where they share tennis courts and a pool. Right.
Starting point is 00:50:43 But we don't know that at first. They think they're going to their private island. Not that it matters that there's other houses. They're in this big mansion. They have a staff. They greet them as their little boat comes, very white lotus. And she shows everybody the room. and the rooms all look beautiful and face the water,
Starting point is 00:51:02 but they realize that the beds fold into like a love seat. Right. So they're like, oh, my God, is this a folding bed? So that was their first bed. And then we have this girl, Daisy, who's very attractive, and she's a makeup artist and her husband's a hairdresser, and they're lucky enough to have a rent-controlled apartment. So they're staying in that apartment.
Starting point is 00:51:23 And her biggest claim to fame is that she's Martha Stewart's makeup artist and plus one. to everything. So she has seen the best of the best, but she's still a makeup artist in a rent control. Correct. With popcorn ceilings, you know, which is, you know, watch out for those asbestos, but whatever. And so she's sitting there with Aaron,
Starting point is 00:51:47 and they are talking and they know their mics are on, but they are whispering. And they're like, is this kind of like a dump? Like this is not that great. It's not that great about this house that is beautiful. Overlooking. It's the water, there is a, there isn't a view that doesn't have clear blue water all around it, a pool and everything.
Starting point is 00:52:06 And here this, she's just like, Martha wouldn't like it. Martha wouldn't like it. But, you know, that's kind of good TV. So they sit down and they do this thing, which was just like, I would have thought was a great idea. But like, oh, my God, they're only there for a couple nights. But they put the table in the shallow part of the water. So it's like you could sit with your, and I'm assuming the water, probably 90 degrees. whatever. But like it starts to rain. Everyone's just miserable. And the other part is that Jessel,
Starting point is 00:52:35 who's like really become a very snarky, bitchy character. I don't know if she was always like that or she's just leaning into it. But in a previous conversation, this girl, Aaron, had her house flood. And she, it's going to be a lot of damage and she lost a lot of personal things. And Daisy, the makeup artist goes, you know, the girls, Jessel and the one who owns this mansion, this island, we kind of joked that it was an insurance thing. Like maybe she let it flood so that she could get insurance money or whatever. And Aaron, rightfully so, gets really fucking upset. And it's really gross and it's a really mean thing.
Starting point is 00:53:16 And it's kind of like a defamation type of a thing to throw around. But again, they're not saying in a court of law. They didn't write in a book. They're living a reality show. So if you're supposed to be living your life, someone might say that. And the whole thing is forget the cameras are there, right? So you say something kind of bitchy, snarky, whatever. And then the producers like, remember that snarky thing, repeat it.
Starting point is 00:53:42 And so that's like their weird fight. But I found last night's episode, I think it's, I like it. I think it's getting good. I like, you know, I like their dynamic. I also think Carol is just funny and interesting. And her like commentary is kind of nice and needed. And yeah, I'm like, now I'm like kind of into it. I'm also into the fact that Erica is married to a billionaire,
Starting point is 00:54:12 but doesn't like to spend a lot of money, which by the way is why super rich people stay rich. They don't spend a lot of money. But because I'm wondering, she's from Texas. She said her father was a doctor, but I'm someone that's very similar to that. I grew up with nothing. I can never turn the volume down on that. It will be in my brain.
Starting point is 00:54:35 It was just like my stepfather grew up during the Depression, and he would always scream at us if we had lights on. I'm still like that today. I'm like turning lights out because I want to waste money. You can't turn it down, even if you become the wife of a billionaire. My dad would always say I'm a depression kid, And then I was like, am I a recession kid? Because I've like lived through a recession.
Starting point is 00:54:56 I have to, the conversations I have in my head are like, wow, I really want this salad. But this salad has the avocado. And then it's like, Heather, you could add a half of avocado to your salad. Well, then that's making that salad $17. And I just think that's ridiculous to spend $17 on a lot. Because it's in your head. Heather, this girl behind you that's 19 is going to spend $20 on her salad.
Starting point is 00:55:28 Yeah, but whatever. I'm like, and then I'm like, Heather, you, what are you saving it for? You could die tomorrow. Have that half of an avocado. It's going to really kind of make the salad. I have to literally fight with myself to be like splurred. So no, I'm not someone who's buying shit at Chanel or anything like that. So I think what's cool is that she, it doesn't matter how much money you make.
Starting point is 00:55:53 Either someone who kind of gets off on finding something similar for a great price and a great deal. Also, even though she's married to a billionaire and probably could spend what she wants, we don't know. The dynamics. We don't know if she gets $10,000 a month, because I've known women that are married to billionaires. Right. And they, a couple. And they have an amount. and they can spend that.
Starting point is 00:56:19 So if they only spend 2,000, then that 8,000 can be saved for something else. They don't have to ask about it. They don't have to say, my sister needs $2,000. We don't know what the situation is. She knows she's protected by being married. Whatever that pre-nup is, she's not ever going to be homeless. But whatever the dynamic is, she doesn't have to share that with us either. She also may not have to share the money she makes from being on the show.
Starting point is 00:56:46 obviously it'll be much more if she's on for three seasons with him that's only hers and he doesn't have to be involved in yeah i will so i'm into that story i would tell anybody that's married to somebody with that big of a dichotomy not to get comfortable to always kind of you know and every couple years i would say ask for something big in your name right right right say like i want to buy this duplex or i want to buy can i have this in my if you're not making the money and like if you're you're hopefully your pre-up is one of those things that you get based on how many years you stay married or whatever because I'm sure his money's in a trust. So I'm sure if they get divorced, she's not getting half of the island house. That's right. You know, like a normal couple that maybe bought the island
Starting point is 00:57:30 house, you know, with his hedge fund money, but they've been married for 10 years. Right. So, you know, who knows. But I find all that, like, interesting. And she's cute to look at it. There's a lot to talk about on that show and I like that. Yeah. Yeah. You just did an episode that on. reality life with Kate Casey about one of my favorite movies, St. Elmo's Fire. Yeah. Tell me about that. Okay, so I tracked down the screenwriter. The story is based on his real life. He, so he's from Pittsburgh. He works at this hotel called St. Elmo. He falls in love with his other waitress who's also working at the hotel. And that is the Andy McDowell character. He is the Emilio Estevez character who's like obsessed with this girl. So he writes a short
Starting point is 00:58:15 story while he's at Duke and wins this contest through Universal. Just about that story. It was just about that story. He was timing for this woman. Yeah. And he wins this contest and it affords him an opportunity to go to L.A. for a couple weeks. He meets Joel Schumacher, who has this famed director and he becomes his assistant. And Joel has had some luck with some movies. And then he says, well, why don't we take your script out and why don't we do something together and make about like college kids. So a lot of the characters are based on kids he knew because he's in his early 20s. Joel is in his 60s. He worked in the fashion industry and then got into movies. So they write this script together and he says this one moment and I thought it was so relatable is when there's
Starting point is 00:59:05 like a power disparity, especially with age two. So they write this whole movie together, it sells. And he He had his, Joel was very overt about his sexuality and his sexual escapades with his assistant. So Joel was gay? Joel's gay. Okay. And he's talking all the time about all of the sexual experiences that he's having. Carl, the screenwriter, is a little bit more dorky. I mean, he was obsessed with this girl that he's chasing.
Starting point is 00:59:32 Like, he's a little bit more awkward. They've sold the script. And now there's going to be a conversation about, like, the equity of it. And Joel says to him some crazy story about sexual escapades and how somebody was just like a casual fuck. That's the exact words. And Carl sort of confused like, why are you telling me this story? And then he goes, you're sort of like a casual fuck. No one knows who you are, Carl.
Starting point is 01:00:01 So here's what's going to happen. I'm going to get 80% and you're going to get 20%. Of the movie? Of the movie. Even though Carl wrote, it's based on his thing. His experiences, his friends, everything. He's like, you're going to get 20, I'll get 80. If you have a problem with that, you can walk away and you won't get anything.
Starting point is 01:00:18 But I'm the one who has the experience. I'm the one who has the movie making, you know, connections. So you have to be fine with that or you have to walk away. And the fact that he begins that by telling them this like crass. And that's after they've written it and after the movie's been sold. But is it in production yet? Not in production yet. Okay.
Starting point is 01:00:36 So what happened? So he was like, I didn't. He was sleeping. on a laundry room floor in LA. He has no money. And he was like, I guess I have to accept it. And he was, in the interview he said, I've never told anybody this story before.
Starting point is 01:00:49 Wow. And as he tells me a story, and right before he tells me the 2080 story, I go, I said, oh, Carl, I went like sick to my stomach. Because I think about how many times we have these weird experiences in business. Like I had one with a client when I did media strategy and consulting where I had,
Starting point is 01:01:10 client told tell me that he was taking Viagra with his wife and he was 60 and I was in my 20s and we're at this coffee spot and he said yeah she keeps complaining it feels like a pole going inside of her and I was like am I on like why you're telling me this yeah like what huh and then he and so he's telling me the story and I'm so uncomfortable and then he goes so I think that maybe I'm going to take the like our retainer down like let's say I was paid like 3500 a month he's like, I think I can only pay like 2000 now. And I was so out of sorts because he had told me this story that was so bizarre and inappropriate that I couldn't really react in time to it.
Starting point is 01:01:50 And then I remember going home and telling my husband, and he was like, the guy was like baiting you. It's totally inappropriate. But that, to me, what did you do? I think I wrote like one more email and I was like, I don't know if I can make this meeting and I never spoke to him again. I never worked with the guy again, ever. getting back to the St. Almost Fire thing.
Starting point is 01:02:09 But can you believe he did that? And then he goes, oh, and by the way, you're only going to get 20%. So because it was such a big hit, though, did he still, did the writer then still make a lot of money and be able to do other things even though he got fucked out of this deal? He did a couple things, but now he's a professor at University of Pittsburgh. Wow. For anyone, you know, St. Almost Fire, that's a great movie. I always wonder, like, sometimes when I watch these movies and I'm, I'm a lot of, you know, it's a lot of, it's a great movie. movies and I'm like all excited to share it with one of my kids.
Starting point is 01:02:39 Yeah, I know. It doesn't hold up. They get kind of bored. But like with this particular movie, what was so crazy about it is when it came out, I was like in high school. Right. And the characters were all just one year out of, out of a whatever college, whatever Boston school they went to.
Starting point is 01:02:57 No, it was Georgetown. Georgetown. Okay. They were only one year out. But this is like the 80s where everyone has shoulder pads. And Judd Nelson was like working for a senator was going to like have a political career and he has a girlfriend and they're going to get married
Starting point is 01:03:13 and they're smoking like they're 40. Well, this is important to bring up because he's explaining to me this man's personality and he's domineering and he's in his 60s. Carl is friends with the actors now. They're all the same age. And a lot of the characters, he would rewrite stuff and in what he thought would be better.
Starting point is 01:03:33 But he's in his 60s. Right. So then I'm like, okay, like for example, Judd and Ali Sheedy's apartment, it's a penhouse. It's all white with artwork. And I was like, why? I was like, how are they so? Joel. Yeah, it was like, how are they so rich?
Starting point is 01:03:48 He made sure Ali Sheedy was dressed in Ralph Lauren. Yeah. Got mad at her because she cut her hair for another role and he was like, how good? I was like, that's another thing I said. If he was that inappropriate with you, imagine what he was saying to these actors and making them feel like shit. Oh, remember Rob Lo hooks up with Wendy, Mirro winning him. Sam's character and he and she's like frumpy she was pregnant while filming that by the way
Starting point is 01:04:10 okay but he like goes up her leg and it reveals she's got spanks of the day yeah and then he calls it her what is this scuba gear and she gets up and she goes I don't think we should talk anymore yeah and I asked him I'm like that is such a horrific scene and he said Joel always made fat jokes and he thought it would be funny so a 60 year old man writing for 20 year olds added that line and he thought it was funny okay I worked in the fashion industry but I I am going to take Delo's advocate in that that that was a very memorable scene. I know, but it was like weird and it was awful, but it was like interesting. It was still interesting.
Starting point is 01:04:47 But, well, everyone should listen to your episode. Yeah. By the way, it's two parts, so go and listen to it. On reality life with Kate Casey. Also, this is kind of interesting. So Kylie Jenner is doing a movie or sorry, a series. Hulu just ordered the series. It's called Bachelorette Weekend, Thriller,
Starting point is 01:05:09 and she plays a bachelorette with her girlfriends, and she dies early in the movie, and then the series is, you know, who killed her and why. And Kim Kardashian is the EP, and they have a big deal with Hulu. I thought, okay, I think it's kind of great because I do think that Kylie could maybe act I really do.
Starting point is 01:05:34 And I think she's pretty. And I think this is a smart thing to do because she'll probably die within the first episode, right? So she's not in it throughout. Right. But then whatever flashbacks are will probably be like slow-mo and like her face and like something that she can do. So I kind of think it's a good toe dip into this world. And again, a thriller where a who done it with a bunch of women characters. I think it's an original script.
Starting point is 01:06:06 It's not like based on a book or anything. Yeah, who wrote the script? That would be interesting. I'm not sure, but I just thought, you know, when I met Kylie for the first time, she was wanting to, she was doing a little Shakira dance on a pool table. Like she, I think actually,
Starting point is 01:06:22 this is, even though she went the reality show and then the makeup and, but now that her kids are getting older and she's dating an actor. And I think, you know, she is really very attractive. I'm kind of excited. We'll see.
Starting point is 01:06:39 I mean, Kim Kardashian's still doing her other thing, which is the lawyer show, which I could not get into. I know. I just got an email. It's second season's about to launch. It's supposed to take place in Rome or whatever. So it might be aesthetically kind of fun and cool.
Starting point is 01:06:52 I know people liked it. But I think it's interesting that, you know, as they are getting older, they're being smart and they're producing stuff. No, Chloe's thing, the girls, So that was a big dud, which was Chloe's show where she just, I guess she promised her friends,
Starting point is 01:07:08 okay, I'll get you a show. And then all they did was just. Unscripted reality shows are hard. You have to be like super compelling people to compete with all of the other shows that are out there. Yeah. Yeah. And then we thought Chloe was going to be in it.
Starting point is 01:07:23 She really wasn't. And so I don't know. I just, I watched like one episode. If you're Chloe, you don't want to be on it because you don't want people to say like, oh, you're, you're stealing, you know, you're stealing the show from the, it's like a no win. It's a no win. She don't want to leave her Hidden Hills estate. Like she doesn't want to have to do stuff.
Starting point is 01:07:43 She doesn't want to do. So they made her like the Carrie Bradshaw, that where she's like, these are my friends and this is what's happening. And the girls were like pretty to look at, but there just wasn't anything. They all just had like a G-wagon and like an ex-ball player boyfriend, baby daddy. And they'd go to Castellina, which I love, because there's a juicy scoop, cocktail there. I wish they would have featured that. But that's about it. I also think people think certain people would be great for TV and then the film crew comes and their duds. Yeah. It just happens. Some people are just not meant to be on TV. But then I thought, well,
Starting point is 01:08:18 at least these girls could never say like, Chloe, you never did anything for us. We've been, we appeared on your show for 15 years as your friends. We're your plus ones for everything. All the events are at your house and I just saw Chloe and Paige they did a podcast together page from Gig League Squad and you know they're both very successful and stuff and they had this one moment that was clipped where they were like if I get invited to a party I'm counseling yeah well she I can invite it both of them's always been like that well they're like if I get invited to a birthday party I'm counseling like if it's just me and one person we're meeting for lunch like I'm going to go because that you're my one friend.
Starting point is 01:09:00 Yeah. But if you've got other people supporting you, why do I have to go? And basically, because they're just at a level where they just are like, I'm really rich. And if I don't want to go, I don't want to go. And I took it. They're probably exhausted from all that comes with having to be a public figure. Well, also, you don't know who's going to be. I see both sides.
Starting point is 01:09:24 I see the side of, it sounds like you're really. selfish. Your friend would really love to have all of her eight best friends being there, you being one of them. But the other part is you're so famous now and you really don't want to be seated next to someone of your page where the
Starting point is 01:09:41 girl's like, hi, I'm so excited to meet you, Paige. I went to college with Melissa or whatever. Funny story, I'm starting a podcast. And I just, what is your tips? Yeah, right. And so she's kind of like, I want to be an in-
Starting point is 01:09:57 Like for Paige, I want to be an influencer. And Paige is just like, oh my God, I like you, Melissa. I would have much rather taking you out to dinner just the two of us. So I do kind of see what that is like. And so I kind of appreciated their honesty in it, you know, as women that are at a certain level that are just like, I kind of like, I don't need to make any new friends. But then someone would get like, but you're there to support your friend. Yes, and no. A wedding.
Starting point is 01:10:24 Yes, you're going to go. you know some big thing but maybe if it's just a 10 person girl dinner at a private dining room yeah but you know you just I don't know what you do with that because it's like I've been in that position went back in the day and you know Chris would come with her bodyguard and the bodyguard would sit over there and she was very nice and brought me a gift and but yeah it was probably coming to the point where she's like I don't want to do these anymore because I'm giving up an evening and I don't know who these other people are and they're a little starstruck and they're going to try to get a photo and it's going to actually take away from the person whose birthday I'm at.
Starting point is 01:11:09 Yeah, like let's say Paige goes to a dinner with 10 girls. Yeah. They're going to ask her a million questions about Craig who she does not want to speak about anymore and they're going to ask her about Amanda and West and she's going to be like, I haven't been on the show. Like I don't want to talk about it. Yeah. She'd probably rather go to a situation where no one knows her television experience at all. Also, and a lot of regular people, when the dinner comes on a Wednesday that they agree to a lot of people. I mean, I'm not someone that cancels. I love a dinner party. I want to be, I like to go to things. Some people would say that's a bad trait that I like to be invited. I don't. I really appreciate being invited and I really like to go. and if I said I'm going to go, I'm going to go.
Starting point is 01:11:53 But I understand a lot of people, I watch these TikToks when they're like, when, you know, when you get the greatest call ever that the thing has been canceled and you're like jumping for joy. And I'm like, no, that's not me actually. And some people are like, I don't understand how you have the energy that you have, Heather, that you want to go, go, go, that you want to go like out to dinner and all that stuff all the time. Have you seen the videos of the woman who lives in New York by herself? and in the videos, it's like you obviously have a videographer.
Starting point is 01:12:25 And it's like when you're, you have no friends and you're all alone a day in my life. And she wakes up in this apartment and it's like her getting out of bed. I'm like, who's videotaping this? And then she like makes her matcha and all this stuff.
Starting point is 01:12:40 She goes in and she does literally 35 beauty treatments and they're all bathe shit crazy and like pulling on her mouth and stuff in her. And you see her getting in the shower and I'm like, how long does this take the film? And then she goes to work. And then you see her walking down the street.
Starting point is 01:12:59 So it's not just like like tripod set up, but like walking and then like going into her building. And then she comes home. She walks in. She holds her cat, kisses the cat, takes off her shoes, takes us some steam cleaner apparatus, cleans the bottom of her like Christian lumbitons, puts them in the closet and then does the whole beauty routine again.
Starting point is 01:13:20 and then eats like a piece of pizza, watches a show and goes to bed. And tons of people watch it. Including you. Because it's kind of a compelling how they do it. Well, I can't watch a lot of it because I'm like, who is filming this? And she insists that she's doing it herself with the tripod.
Starting point is 01:13:36 I'm like, it doesn't make any sense. I think it does make sense sometimes. But I also was like, when I can tell. I mean, beauty companies need to throw this woman a bone. She will use 35 different things. And then it's like tea with like, popery in it and then like every whack-a-do wellness thing she's doing it um well one thing we didn't talk about will end on this Alex Earle said she's never read a book yeah I think what it is
Starting point is 01:14:04 is I think kids now don't have to read like we add too I think with AI and stuff like that I think you don't have to read the whole book I mean we used to have cliff notes but I would still read entire books and I still would enjoy reading a book and so I kind of appreciate her honesty. A lot of people don't have... She graduated from college and she's never read like a whole book
Starting point is 01:14:30 all the way through. And a lot of people said I have not read books either. How did you graduate from University of Miami and never read a book? That to me is like... Because you get the books but I think it's really rare that you have to read the whole book that I mean I think there's enough way to get summaries and whatnot.
Starting point is 01:14:46 She means like literature. Like she never read Catcher in the I think she means like, yeah, that in any assignment she got with the help of whatever, the internet and AI, like she doesn't have to read the whole 300 pages in order to, yeah. Yeah, I feel like we could hook up with some suggestions. I feel like reading's going to come back in style. I heard reading was coming back in. That's why bookstores are doing better and that people want, it looks cool to like hold a real book and be out. I love a book. I would love to write a book.
Starting point is 01:15:16 I love books. I hope she reads more books. Kate. We'll help her out. Thank you for coming. Thank you for having me. You can follow Kate Casey and her show is reality life with Kate Casey. She puts so many episodes out a week.
Starting point is 01:15:33 How many do you do? Like six? Six episodes a week. Monday, I tell you what to watch. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday interview, directors, executive producers, people that are featured in reality shows or documentaries. And then every Saturday I feature somebody who has like, a crazy life story. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:15:49 Saturday, this Saturday is someone who escaped a cult. I love that. Those are always good. I love an escaping a cult story. I definitely feel like cults are struggling as an industry. No, they're not.
Starting point is 01:16:02 Thanks to documentaries, yes, they are. They definitely are, I think. Social media, that's the new wave. Have you seen the new woman who lives in L.A.? And she goes to sign books and people walk up and they shake and they fall over? she says she can heal people. She's the new John of God.
Starting point is 01:16:19 But is a proper cult one where you have to live there? No, not. No, not necessarily. I think there's cult-like where maybe you just spend a lot of time at that place and you give a lot of money and even like a
Starting point is 01:16:36 Scientology, people would say it's a cult or not but they don't all live there. Some people have their own homes and everything. So yeah, I think there's different levels of it. Lots of spending money on courses, changing your belief system to accommodate somebody that you believe as a guru. God, guru, that's a lot of time. You know, that's a lot of work.
Starting point is 01:16:58 A lot of effort, yeah. Who wants to do that? I think docs have really hurt cults and churches. Yeah. White clothes. Yeah. That's like a lot of work. To have like a monochromatic look every day to stick with one color.
Starting point is 01:17:13 You know, that's a lot of work. It's a lot of work. It's a lot of bleed. Oh, by the way, people can go to katek.com and every week, they'll get a weekly. This is what you should watch this week list, so it'll save you time. Yes, and like the hot thing and you've great taste. And everything for me, you guys, it's at hathermcdonald.net. I will be at Desert Ridge Improv in Phoenix this weekend, October 9th and 10th.
Starting point is 01:17:38 Two shows a night. Friday is 7 and 9, I think, 7 and 9, or 9. 30. And then Saturday's early. It's 6 and 8.30. So come to the show, laugh, meet me, meet and greets are available. Thank you.
