Starting point is 00:00:00 When you auditioned for Wicked, can you talk about it or no? Yeah, I auditioned for it. You auditioned and you got far. You said you got a double callback. So you consider yourself open or hetero or fluid or like... Just hetero. Okay. Love, love, love. What's hetero again? Hey guys, welcome back to the Jess Trish Podcast. I am so excited.
Starting point is 00:00:38 This guest today has been all over my TikTok For You page. He's bringing glam rock back. Honestly, male version of me, I'd like to say, with a little more talent, the one and only Spencer Sutherland. Thank you for having me. I'm so excited. That was a hell of an intro, and I really appreciate it. My intros are getting better.
Starting point is 00:00:55 People are always like, you have to introduce the person coming on. I used to just start talking, and I was like, OK, let me try an intro. It was very kind, and I'm happy to be here, so thanks for having me. I'm so excited. I love musicians. I love talented to be here. So thanks for having me. I'm so excited. I love musicians. I love talented singers. It's not me. There's so many reasons I'm happier here from your new album, which I'm so excited about.
Starting point is 00:01:13 Elvis and Wicked. I mean, it's really just the Trinity for me. You know, it's like everything that I love. I'm the Trinity. You are the Trinity. You are everything I wish I was. Oh, get out of here. Yeah, we do have a lot in common in all those things, too. Yeah. Which is crazy. First being we I wish I was. Oh, get out of here. Yeah. We do have a lot in common
Starting point is 00:01:25 and all those things too. Yeah. Which is crazy. First being we're both Midwest people. You're from Ohio. I'm from Illinois. Where in Illinois? Rockford, Illinois. It's like Northern Illinois. We used to drive to Cleveland. My dad's from Cleveland. Shout out Lakewood, Ohio. And we would drive like eight hours to Cleveland through Indiana. Yeah. Go through Gary, Indiana. Yeah. Go through the Duncan. And I love midwest people yeah i feel like there's a lot of ohio in general but like midwest and la and i feel like they all kind of find each other yeah you kind of know they're just like nice people yeah you know you're like oh you're really nice and they're like oh i'm always from the midwest which is like kind of
Starting point is 00:01:57 cool yeah but i thought you were european that's what i was telling you like you look and i told you darling i am that's a good british accent No, my British accent goes to really get into it. I've just got to do Jack Sparrow. And you just get really into it. It needs some rum. You know what I mean? Oh, it's a little drunk accent too. Yes, it is.
Starting point is 00:02:14 The drunk helps me hit everything perfectly. Is that from the tequila shots and then you can do the British? Yeah, I did nine before this interview right now. Did you actually? Because you're like, you just got to do a couple tequila shots. I'm like, do you do that that early? Yeah. It's fine.
Starting point is 00:02:28 Everything's fine. No, I'm kidding. Too early. Too early. Too early. I have done an interview with a tequila shop before, but I think it was like 5 p.m. Oh my gosh. I can't do tequila because I'll like literally be on my-
Starting point is 00:02:39 This episode is going to be really unhinged because I already like like one minute in, know that we just start going on tangents. Yes. Nothing is directed. I have notes, but nothing is directed. I kind of just go with the flow. I love that. Yes. It's so much fun.
Starting point is 00:02:53 I'm so excited. I feel like you are seriously, I've told you this, like all over my For You page. I just have seen you over and over. Specifically, that's when like this one where it's like, you know, born in the wrong era. It's like, I like the look of a cigarette, but I hate the way it's, all over. Just constantly, the algorithm really favors you. What's the secret?
Starting point is 00:03:12 You just gotta pay TikTok a lot of money. I'm kidding. No, I think I found one that, this whole social media journey for me has genuinely changed my life, for real. Flipped it on its head. A couple years ago ago I started doing like covers and those would go viral and then I did open verse challenges and those would go viral and which is like great but last year my original stuff started kind of like taking off and that was
Starting point is 00:03:37 it's it's much different you know because you're not just like that guy's a good singer to like I like this guy's music and his catalog and everything right and that song the drama song in particular uh I just found a formula that worked for the people that wanted to listen that kind of music and I just started posting a billion videos um using the sound over and over yeah oh yeah oh yeah I probably posted 35 times before I was even out wow yeah it's a weird it's a weird weird, it's like a weird game now. It's so odd to see it because I'm like, to me it was always like, who is this person? Like, because you look like you could be like a tribute band to like Queen, but it's also like you're, you know, because it sounds Queen.
Starting point is 00:04:19 Yeah, are you? Yeah. A cover band. Could you imagine just moonlighting? I mean, I love it. There is one. Well, you know what I would do is love Adam Lambert. Big fan. Love how he sings for Queen.
Starting point is 00:04:30 I would, whenever he's done, let me know. Would you do it? I would do a whole tour with him. Hell yeah. Oh my gosh. I mean, like, Freddie is like on my, is on my Mount Rushmore. Really? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:41 Like, Queen is on my Mount Rushmore of music for sure. Did you ever get to audition for the movie? No, I'm like not 10 inches too tall for Freddie Mercury. Oh, was he short? Yeah. He's a small man. Also, no one's going to beat Rami. Good Lord.
Starting point is 00:04:53 You think he was the best? Oh yeah. I heard Sacha Baron Cohen was up for it too. That would have been interesting. Such a different movie though. Yeah. He just pranks everybody the whole time. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:02 Yeah. Probably would not hit. I'm so fascinated because you are an actor. I want to talk more about your music, but I want to talk about the acting because the first thing when you came in, I was like, hide all the wicked stuff. But then you said you just saw Wicked. So I was like, ooh, let me talk about it. Wait, why hide it?
Starting point is 00:05:14 Well, because you were on this list. And this is, again, before I even put two and two together, they put out the list, the short list of people who were going to be Fiyero, Bach, like the people who got all the callbacks. And you were on it. I was? Have you not seen these lists? I don't know. I'm not really sure. It's a joke anymore. I don't know. No, I have seen them. Yeah. I mean, it's like a list. It's like Joe Jonas. It's like the biggest name. Crazy. And your name was on there. And again, I knew you from TikTok, but the name wasn't like computing for me. Obviously it's a great name,
Starting point is 00:05:44 but it wasn't like computing. And I was like, wait. So again, I knew you from TikTok, but the name wasn't like computing for me. Obviously, it's a great name, but it wasn't like computing. And I was like, wait. So when I was doing my research yesterday, I was like, oh my gosh, you've been on like this list that I've been seeing everywhere for Fiero. Yeah, like there's like Pop Crave lists or whatever. Yes, which I love, which is how I actually knew you were a big deal because Pop Crave tweeted your drama album. And I was like, wait.
Starting point is 00:05:58 Dude, that was so cool. Yeah, that's huge. Yeah, that was very random. Yeah. They love you. Really cool. That gives you mainstream. But. Yeah. They love you. Really cool. That gives you mainstream. But when you auditioned for Wicked, can you talk about it or no?
Starting point is 00:06:08 Or you have to sign an NDA? Maybe. I don't remember if I did or not. But I mean, yeah, I auditioned for it. You auditioned. And you got far. You said you got a double callback. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:18 I'm not really sure. You don't really know how close you are. Yeah. Because it feels like you're really close. And then sometimes there's 50 people in front of you, and that's close. And I think there was a lot of people that were up for Fiyero because, in my opinion, I was like,
Starting point is 00:06:32 I wonder which way they're going to go, if they're going to go super Broadway, or, like, maybe I'm just, like, auditioning because they were like, let's see if it was, like, more rock and roll or something. Interesting. That would have been... I'm surprised, too.
Starting point is 00:06:44 It's all speculation, everybody. This is, like, I have no idea. Well, even when Jonathan Bailey was announced, I wasn't familiar with him at first, and I was like, rock and roll or something. Interesting. That would have been, I'm surprised too. It's all speculation, everybody. This is like, I have no idea. Well, even when Jonathan Bailey was announced, I wasn't familiar with him at first. And I was like, oh, that's so cool. God, he was great. Yeah. So you watched it?
Starting point is 00:06:51 You saw it last night? Yeah. And you do love it? Oh, he, I mean, so good. So good. Also, like, I can't dance like that. I mean, I could, but it would take a lot of training. Yeah, he like trained in ballet and stuff as a kid.
Starting point is 00:07:01 Like, he was like amazing. So you auditioned. Did you get to do, you don't have to say who, but you got to screen test with him? I would be more of a still Fiyero. I would be a couple jabs and kicks, but less. That would be an interesting Fiyero, just not dancing through life. Yeah. I was not dancing through much of life.
Starting point is 00:07:20 You know what? You know what was the coolest part is when he slid on the book? Yeah, and he did it himself, they said. Really? Yeah. Ariana and Cynthia were like, yeah, he did it himself, they said. Really? Yeah. Ariana and Cynthia were like, yeah, he did that, like all his own dancing stunts. Okay. Also, Cynthia's voice just absolutely tore me up inside.
Starting point is 00:07:36 Yeah. No, that's like made me cry. Do you cry? I don't cry hardly at all. Yeah. And the only part of the movie that I teared up is when the uh the the goat professor oh yeah dr dillinger yeah uh dillinger dilliman dilliman i'm the biggest wicked fan so everyone's gonna be like trisha wow yeah uh when when he runs into the desk and like knocks over the flower vase and then he said you have one friend peter dinklage puts out his hoof and it's just it
Starting point is 00:08:06 honestly like really made me emotional i was like i know i feel like it's like the best story of like acceptance i love it so much so what did you sing with what did you audition with uh what did i sing i sang dancing through life i sang that and i sang um so you had to sing all the fiero songs as long as you're mine. Oh. I made, we were that for Halloween this year. I made him learn the lyrics. Really? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:29 He does not sing at all, but I was always like, can you please learn this song? It's my favorite one of Wicked. Oh, they're so good. I wasn't really as familiar with Wicked stuff. I knew what it was, and then I listened to the songs. I was like, these hit. My favorite song is Just One Day in the Emerald City. That's my favorite too that's one in act one that's one of my favorite underrated songs yeah it's amazing it's like the the dancing and then the
Starting point is 00:08:52 the cameos who i won't say who but yeah so great like so fantastic have you seen the stage production no i know i know it was very new to me like uh we sang in choir in high school we sang for good like in choir so I know every word of that song oh we didn't know the show nope no idea what it's from I just knew uh we would sing it like in choir when the seniors would go like at the end of the year like because I knew you I have been kind of cheesy I love it so much. That song is so good. Everything about Wicked. Oh, it's so great. Would you do Broadway? Yes.
Starting point is 00:09:28 I've almost done a couple of Broadway things. What happened? You just didn't want to do it? One, conflicted with touring. Oh. Like two tours in particular. And unfortunately, right now, I'm choosing kind of music over the acting. Really?
Starting point is 00:09:41 Because you're so good. You've done a Netflix movie. How'd you know? Afterlife of the Party. Did you watch any scenes from it? I did watch some scenes. And you look so good. You've done a Netflix movie. How'd you know? Afterlife of the Party. Did you watch any scenes from it? I did watch some scenes. And you look so different. Wait, that's so interesting, though.
Starting point is 00:09:50 Like, do you, would you, like, you change your look to act? Yeah. I mean, depending. I try to keep it as close as possible. But yeah, it's a little more toned down, probably. Yeah, yeah. Because it's a very specific part to play. Well, that was a singer, so you probably didn't have to stretch yourself too much.
Starting point is 00:10:06 But it was still good. And those were my actual bell-bottom pants. I wore them into the fitting, and they were like, well, these are cooler than the ones that we have. Really? Yeah. Also, men's pants suck now. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:15 You know? Shop in the women's department. Can you tell? I love it. I love it. Oh, my God. The flare pants, I tried flare today. The problem is, is I can't walk.
Starting point is 00:10:23 They literally come in the way. Those are really big flares. I tried to find the biggest for you. I was like, how am I going to wear these big flares? Well, I even said before this started, I would wear this exact outfit on stage. That's the goal. Yeah. No, your style is so cool.
Starting point is 00:10:37 Everything about it, the way you perform. But you didn't always have the style. I found out in your X Factor audition. You saw that. X Factor UK. Wait. This is so much lore to you that's what's like so crazy because again I have a lot of lore it's and it goes so deep and there's so many different like yous you know what I mean yes yeah I had a hard time figuring that out like who I was you know stylistically musically personality wise really and I think like that that X Factor time in particular,
Starting point is 00:11:06 if you look at my like faux hawk and my long T, my tight jeans, like rips and everything, it was what the pop boys of 2018 were doing. So I was like, oh, that's what I'm supposed to do is do this and sing and not use my full voice, just sing kind of nasally. And then, you know, TikTok was a big part of me figuring it out because i just started during the pandemic i started taking risks and like wearing stuff because i wasn't
Starting point is 00:11:32 leaving yeah i love the way i felt like bell bottoms and like that's so interesting yeah and what inspired the bell bottoms like i had a real aha moment and i've talked about this like in interviews and stuff that i looked at um the music that I was trying to make and the stuff I was listening to and it was so different and then I just started trying to make music that I would love to listen to and it just instantly clicked it connected yeah it's so interesting because it's so like yeah it's definitely not of the time and I'm surprised how many people do like it because it is almost like. Oh, it's very surprising. Yeah. But I will say that like that kind of classic glam rock, rock and roll stuff will never go away. And it always has a place.
Starting point is 00:12:17 I mean, some of these bands like Elton John is bigger than ever. And, you know, he really like popped in the 70s. And I just I love that. That's your era. Yeah. And my favorite of all time is Elvis I'm obsessed with Elvis and I love how you have a kid named Elvis I love Elvis my daughter is named Elvis
Starting point is 00:12:34 is she named after Elvis Presley yeah okay cool you never know could you imagine I love Elvis no I love Elvis more than anything and that's why I was so excited. I think more than anything to have you on because there's very, there is a lot of Elvis fans, I think because of the Austin Butler movie, but I feel like the true deep, like
Starting point is 00:12:54 deep cuts of Elvis, like the movie Elvis, like what era do you like the best? 50s, 60s, 70s? I mean, they're all great. If I had to choose, I'll get really specific. So you have to be careful. I don't want to know. Yeah. Okay. If I had to choose, I'll get really specific, so you have to be careful. I don't want to know, yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:13:11 I love the 1970 Las Vegas residency where he's just like a little more mature and he's like shredded and tan and just like his banter on stage is ridiculous. He's just kissing everyone in the crowd. Yeah, full on. It just so like is what it is. But then, you know, the 50s Elvis is so dope. It's like amazing. That's interesting you say the 70s Elvis because he was really in good shape during the Vegas shows. Like he was on it like kicking and doing the most.
Starting point is 00:13:34 It wasn't until the last couple of years that he started getting unhealthy and bloating and stuff. But also I say that and then his last concert like ever his voice was the best I've ever heard oh I think they showed it I'll be coming home you know oh yeah he's like
Starting point is 00:13:49 oh my love it's insane so good yeah Unchained Melody they did a really good job with that that's what I was happy with how the film ended
Starting point is 00:13:56 was the Unchained Melody and then they went to the Real Elvis because that was was his last performance right? was that his very last? there was like a couple
Starting point is 00:14:01 after that that was the last televised one ever the last footage they have of him performing and he's just his voice is so good i feel like people like don't get that with him i mean he was we were talking about this like on the car right up here but he genuinely it was like it was like a comet hit the earth when he came out because it was like what is this inappropriate like madness people were trying to sue him people were trying
Starting point is 00:14:24 to like get him in jail because he was just humping the air. For the way he's dancing and stuff. And his dance was so original. I just love everything about Elvis. I love movie era Elvis. Oh, great. All his movies. I've seen them a dozen times.
Starting point is 00:14:36 I think they're so good. Viva Las Vegas. Yeah, yeah. Just so many of those good ones. And that's why- Is it your favorite one? Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:42 Well, I do love to go real niche. I like those follow that dream follow your dream that dream i love that i love the fun and alcapoco like i love all those kind of movies that one's so good so good it makes you feel so great the margarita song yeah yeah it's just kind of happy or a clamp bake have you seen that one i've seen every single one shelly febreze i have most of them on dvd from like when i was a kid oh i love that's our favorite thing to do is like re-watch old Elvis movies because the songs are just so good. And I was like, God, I wish they made fun movies like this. I don't know if they would do well anymore. You can just sort of also hop in in the middle and it's like, oh, so there's the girl that he's trying to get and she's not into him, but she will be. And here's a rock and roll song. And it's
Starting point is 00:15:21 great. And his career is always like a skydiver or something like a cliff diver and like a race car driver. It's never anything like normal. He's a scuba instructor. Yes. Yeah. He's always something. I wish they would remake those so bad. My favorite Elvis voice
Starting point is 00:15:34 when he like really rocked. Yeah. I'm gonna do like raspy like you know 68 comeback. Yeah, of course. God, you know. Yeah, you're in. No, I love everything Elvis.
Starting point is 00:15:41 Yeah. Yeah. Obsessed. Like I watch it on the daily like Elvis stuff all the time. Yeah, he's okay. So is he on your algorithm? Elvis? Yeah, I'm everything Elvis. Yeah. Yeah. Like obsessed. Like I watch it on the daily, like Elvis stuff all the time. Yeah. He's okay. Be so. Is he on your algorithm?
Starting point is 00:15:48 Elvis? Yeah. I'm on Elvis talk. I always send it to my dad. It's always like his acting stuff goes viral. You know, the ones where, and everyone's like, Ooh, wow. He's so sexy. Where he's like, goes in.
Starting point is 00:15:55 I forget what movie it's from. He goes into the kitchen and like, starts like yelling at the girl. And he's just like, you don't know what you're doing. Sit down little girl. And everyone's like, Ooh, wow. Elvis. Like love him. Like he's really making a comeback acting wise.
Starting point is 00:16:04 He totally is. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Wait, what girl. And everyone's like, oh, wow, Elvis. Like, love him. Like, he's really making a comeback acting-wise. He totally is. Yeah. Yeah. Okay, wait. What's your song you were going to sing? I don't know. You don't have to if you don't want to. I just love singing.
Starting point is 00:16:12 Are you lonesome tonight? You know, like a little, like. That was so good. But my favorite is his voice when he does interviews and he's doing, like, there's all this footage that came out after he died of him just being super inappropriate it's my favorite yes yes and you're talking like this is a hey that girl last night man that girl gave great hit yes i can't stop watching it it's so good i can't stop watching no he's the best his interviews are the greatest keep keep that in no elvis was he was just everything and i love that you know those do you see it on tiktok is
Starting point is 00:16:44 that how you found it? Because that's how I see him now. Yes. And then, because it's from like the documentary Elvis on tour. Have you seen that? Yes. Yes, of course. The editing in that's crazy.
Starting point is 00:16:52 Oh my gosh. No, my very first, this is Elvis, was the very first like kind of docu-series style. Did you see that one? Yes. It was like right after, close after he died. And my dad like loved it. It was like on repeat. Is that with Kurt Russell?
Starting point is 00:17:02 They had like documentary. No, it was like a documentary they did. Oh, this is? They had a documentary. No, it was a documentary they did. Oh, this is Elvis. Yes. Yeah. And then it was kind of mixed with some real stuff. Kurt Russell won his good. I don't remember that movie called.
Starting point is 00:17:09 But I've seen all of it. Yeah, he did a great job. Yeah, he was good. My favorite Elvis was Austin Butler, actually, though. Yeah. I was a little. 100%. Did you audition for that movie?
Starting point is 00:17:17 No. Would you have? Yeah. I mean, once again, nobody can play. I remember when he got casted, I was like, huh. Yeah. Same. And then he absolutely just tore it up.
Starting point is 00:17:28 And I can't believe that it was a big shocker that he didn't win his Oscar. It was like, so, but I knew it was going to happen because I was like, here's the story of like this. Also, I love Brendan Fraser. Yeah. Love. The mummy was like my favorite kid growing up favorite movie growing up
Starting point is 00:17:45 and so I just knew that like his comeback story was gonna be the award yeah and
Starting point is 00:17:52 I was not I was determined it was gonna be awesome but like I think everyone I mean it should have been yeah when you play
Starting point is 00:17:57 somebody like a biopic they always win it and so I was so sad he didn't he also morphed into like every version of him you know?
Starting point is 00:18:05 Yeah. And was Elvis over 23 years? No, it's like remarkable to change that much. And he sang and danced and like acted his ass off. I mean, it was insane. And his voice changed forever. What did you think of his Elvis voice? I want him to keep doing it.
Starting point is 00:18:19 I do too. I like it. I wish he would come on here. My dream was him to come on and just be Elvis. Like that would be so cool. Cause it's like, keep it forever. It's your lucky day. Austin!
Starting point is 00:18:29 You're pretty close, though. You sound just... Like, I love Elvis impersonators. At our wedding, he's saying Elvis came and sang Can't Have Falling With You. I know a lot of them. Gosh, do you remember his name? You paid him the day before because we couldn't... Our other Elvis got COVID.
Starting point is 00:18:40 So we had to pay this one. Do you know his name? Was it Justin? Shandor? Yes, I think it was. Justin Shandor. I like weird. So I like, yeah, I'm going to get real deep here, dude. But I, I go to Graceland a lot and I, I, I judged the Elvis tribute contest in August. Yeah. The big one Elvis weekend. I performed at like a couple of shows there. Wait, really? Yeah. Have you been to Graceland? Oh, love. I used to go every Christmas with my dad. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:05 Okay. From like one, like literally like two to like 17. I went, yeah, it's my favorite place. I just love it. I love Elvis.
Starting point is 00:19:11 Do you remember Trent Carlini? Uh, he's passed away, but he, Vegas. Yeah. Yeah. He was on the next best thing with Don.
Starting point is 00:19:20 The, there was a guy named Sonny was the other one. Sonny and Trent, they like were the top Elvis impersonators, and I loved them. And he performed at the same Hilton. Elvis did. He was so much like him, and he would perform The Lady Loves Me, and he'd perform all the movie songs. But she doesn't know it yet.
Starting point is 00:19:33 I love that song. You need to look up this guy, and then we can get off this. Yeah, yeah. His name's Dean Z. He's unbelievable. It's the best thing I've ever seen in my life. It brings me. Sounds just like him?
Starting point is 00:19:43 Yeah. Oh, yeah. He came out and performed at one of my shows in St. Louis, Heartbreak Hotel. With you? Yeah. And I started doing Heartbreak Hotel and I stopped and I was like, you know what? St. Louis. And they're like, no.
Starting point is 00:19:53 And I was like, I'm not doing this justice. Let me get the world's best Elvis out here. And he came out and it was wild to see girls be like, feel it. Just so excited. Yeah. They felt the electricity electricity was it after the movie came out yeah it was last year yeah i'd love that the new like gen z loves elvis but i've you know i have been an og elvis fan so i always just show my like throwbacks and we just you all
Starting point is 00:20:15 remember like i love elvis before he was cool but i like that he's cool again and if you're still watching this yeah we're done with elvis but speaking of harry styles auditioned for elvis and i know you're like weirdly a One Direction fan. Yeah, One Direction rocks. That's so, I see like you do covers and stuff. I'm like, that's so interesting. I mean, I just remember like even there was the album that it was all like, it was all just like recycled, like almost like 80s rock.
Starting point is 00:20:39 Yeah. And I loved it. Harry Styles or One Direction? One Direction. Oh, I didn't know. I don't know much about them. Yeah, it was like, midnight memories. And it was like, pour some sugar on me.
Starting point is 00:20:51 Oh, interesting. But I love when stuff's on. Like, all my favorite living artists is Bruno Mars. Wow. Love Bruno Mars. And it's all just, you know. I haven't heard that in so long. Like, people saying they love Bruno.
Starting point is 00:21:02 I mean, I love Bruno Mars. Oh, he's so great. He's so great live. But it's very, like, reminiscent I mean, I love Bruno Mars. Oh, he's so great. He's so great live. But it's very reminiscent of James Brown. Yeah, he is a great. He also loves Elvis. He was impersonating Elvis at like four years old. He went to Graceland at like four years old.
Starting point is 00:21:14 Yeah, he looked amazing. Anyways, that's so much about Elvis. And the next Elvis. How long have you been doing music? Since three? I've been singing, yeah, forever. But I didn't think about being a singer until i was like graduating high school i did theater in high school musical theater yeah big
Starting point is 00:21:30 surprise wait no it is a surprise because i've got so many singers and they don't like musical theater especially guys even like gay guys like a lot of my friends just don't like musical theater like that wait so what did you do what shows did you do because. I did. So we had like a, in Ohio, we like won, we had like a really high funded theater program. So it was great to have like cool sets and everything. I did High School Musical 1, High School Musical 2, White Christmas,
Starting point is 00:21:56 It's a Wonderful Life, Guys and Dolls, Christmas Story. Are you lead in all these? Are you ensemble? Most of them. The first couple were when I was like a freshman and, you know. Like High School? Are you ensemble? Most of them. The first couple were when I was like a freshman and, you know. Like high school musical, you were? I was this character called Jack Scott. Oh.
Starting point is 00:22:10 And it was made for the stage show. Oh, okay. I was like the school announcer, Jack Scott here. Oh, okay. Yeah, it was weird. That was you were a freshman though, so you didn't kick. And I was Troy Understudy. Oh, did you ever get to perform?
Starting point is 00:22:20 One time almost. And I was, and he fell and hit his head and he was like. Oh. And I almost got up there and then he was like, oh. And I almost got up there. And then he was like. I can do it. Yeah. It's like showgirls where you just push them down the stairs.
Starting point is 00:22:30 Like, it's my turn. Oops. Yeah. Wait, you're so young if you performed a high school musical in high school. Because that came out after my high school series. I'm 17. Wow. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:39 You're like a vampire. That's amazing. Wow, you're so young. Wow. I did not know. Because high school musicals. I'm 32. I did not know because like high school musical I'm 32 oh
Starting point is 00:22:47 and they had a high school musical in high school I'm 23 that's young which one are you I'm so confused now it doesn't matter don't ask the lady
Starting point is 00:22:54 no I think the second one came out yeah no 2009 or something 2008 yeah I was a freshman in 2009
Starting point is 00:23:03 oh yeah so it was around the same time it was coming out, I think. Okay, okay. I was like after high school for me. So I guess that's why I like it. Or 2008. It doesn't matter. I love High School Musical. Yeah, I need a Guys and Dolls. Who were you in that? The main guy.
Starting point is 00:23:16 Whose name is? Which one? Frank Sinatra and Marlon Brando. Frank Sinatra. I forget their names too. One's Sky, right? Oh, Sky. Sky Masterson. Okay, Sky, yeah. I didn't love doing that one. Yeah, I really, my dream role to do someday is to be able to be Danny Zuko in Grease. It's like my dream to happen. I'm surprised you haven't done that.
Starting point is 00:23:36 I've auditioned for it. Like regional theater or like what? Is it on Broadway? It's not on Broadway now. No, but bring it back, you know? Oh my God. Yeah, you would crush it. So you would stop touring for that?
Starting point is 00:23:46 You'd be like, okay, I'll play a plus. Yeah, 100%, yeah. That's your dream. Because you don't have to take off years. You take off six months and you go do that. And I love New York City. I'd like to move there. Did you do shows there?
Starting point is 00:23:57 Did you do a tour there? Or are you doing a tour there? I'll play there, yeah. Okay. Because you're doing one coming up, Jingle Ball, but that's not in New York. That's just a one-off here, yeah. In LA? Yeah, LA. Why did I think that was in New York? Yeah, if you're doing one coming up, jingle ball, but that's not in New York. That's, that's just a one off here. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:06 Why do I think that was in New York? Yeah. If you're around, come December six, six. I have a show December 5th in San Diego. Ooh. It's also like 18,000 people.
Starting point is 00:24:16 I don't think I could do well in crowds like that. 18,000. Where are you playing in San Diego? San Diego civic theater. Oh, nice down there. Yeah. That's a big theater.
Starting point is 00:24:22 We'll see. Let's go. go yeah we're doing a mini christmas tour i love christmas songs i put out original christmas songs for the past 10 years i know i heard i love it wait how do you know i just well i went and stalked you can i tell you something yeah when i any at all points in my career i've never had as many people friends reached out to me as when they heard you say my name on your podcast yes and i'm not sure if that's like a certain like demographic of people but i had my phone went really yeah and it was really exciting it was really cool shout out to spencer's friends yeah
Starting point is 00:24:58 are they all like hot girls i would assume that's usually watches me yeah there's a lot of yeah just girls and gays yeah they're all hot yeah some some gays hit me up about it some a lot of people from uh ohio really yeah yeah they're just like dude do you realize that you're that's so funny i was i was so excited when i saw pop bass mention you because i i guess i didn't realize how popular were you know you find someone i'm not that popular you're very popular because I saw you on Zach's thing. I saw you everywhere. You're on Netflix movies. You know?
Starting point is 00:25:28 You'll hang with the right cohorts. I love that you sing because anybody who comes on my podcast, I'm like, will you sing with me? And no one has done it except for Joshua Robert Colley, who auditioned for Bach, actually, and he's a Broadway star, and he sang with me, and it made me so happy. Do you tour with like a front of house, like sound guy? Yeah, yeah, yeah yeah yeah yeah he makes me sound good yeah i mean if you find the right one it's like they make you sound great shout out
Starting point is 00:25:50 jeremy i've worked with him for like 10 years he's really good um yeah we both did a we both just did a kitchen trio with jonathan and anthony i love those guys i saw yours and i was like wait that's what i knew again that you were so much more popular i thought i found this really niche person like wow i know someone niche. And I saw Pop Bass and I saw you in their kitchen. And I was like, oh, wait, he's like super popular. I don't know if I'm super popular, but I will say that this like album and single in general, like really started was the first thing that started to like kind of like, you know, bubble
Starting point is 00:26:20 for me. Yeah. And that was really exciting. Where people are just like, who is this person? So you study the algorithm. Yeah yeah you study what people like like you're like oh they like this so your covers did well are they like retro covers that did well yeah and so you're like people like this and me like not trying to sing like a pop singer like i i tried to really use my whole voice i did it randomly one time the first video ever went viral
Starting point is 00:26:43 i sang and when i wake in the morning and I step outside, you know that song? Yeah, yeah, yeah. And I used, it was not a trending song. I just sang it, and it was the first time I like painted my nails. And I sang it like in a mic and then posted it,
Starting point is 00:26:59 woke up and it had a couple million views. And that was like, it was like, oh my God. Your first viral TikTok. Yeah. And I got like kind of nervous. And I looked at all the comments and they're like, I was, it was like, oh my God. Your first viral TikTok. Yeah. And I got like kind of nervous and I looked at all the comments and they're like, I love like when a man paints his nails.
Starting point is 00:27:09 I love, oh my God, your voice. And it, so it gave me confidence to like start, you know, start like following what I actually like to wear and how I like to sound and stuff. So that was really cool. That is so interesting. So like, yeah, you're very femboyant. You know what I mean? Like, is this always been like, did you always, because in Ohio, most people, maybe now they
Starting point is 00:27:27 do, but being from the Midwest, no one dressed like this. Still not really. Like if you go downtown and you're like in the cool neighborhood and you'll see some cool stuff. But people like I'm from the suburbs. So whenever I go travel home, I go in my closet. I'm like, what's the most toned down thing I could wear in here for my trip? Well, not really, but I'm like,
Starting point is 00:27:45 I probably shouldn't bring these star bell bottoms back to Pickerington, Ohio at Starbucks. Yeah. Did you ever borrow your mom's clothes because you love women's clothes? Yes. Yeah, I did because her polos would fit tight and it felt like,
Starting point is 00:28:01 it's nice. Yeah, you liked it. My mom was also 5'1", so I couldn't wear most of it. So it was like giving you a crop top. Yeah. What would you feel and it felt like, I was like, oh, this is nice. Yeah, you liked it. Yeah, but my mom was also like 5'1", so I couldn't wear most of it. So it was like giving you a crop top. Yeah. What would you feel in it, like when you wore your mom's clothes for the first time? What would you feel when you wore your mom's clothes for the first time? I love it. No, I truly love dressing like androgynous and I love the whole gender swapping.
Starting point is 00:28:18 I love all of it, so I'm so curious. I wore this polo for my High School Musical 2 audition. Your mom's polo? Yeah, because it was like, if you remember that movie Zac Efron has, I love Zac Efron so much. He's just. My favorite. I thought I'd go, oh, we have something else in common. What?
Starting point is 00:28:34 I didn't even know you did this. What? I had a music video come out last year that I recreated, bet on it. You did? No. And I posted it. And it did well, but all all the comments trisha did it better i was like wait what is happening wait how did i not see this i did like eight hours of
Starting point is 00:28:50 research and i did not see this because it's not like branded as that it's just my song jealousy and then i just like loosely recreate it okay so you weren't like recreating bed on it i was pretty close did you go to the place up in utah no we shot at a friend's, I have a friend of a friend who owns a country club in like out in the, out here somewhere. Oh, okay. That's so funny. Yeah, dude. It wasn't even a recreation and people were like, Trisha did it better. Well, it's close. In homage.
Starting point is 00:29:16 Yeah, we definitely, I'm doing the same kind of moves and stuff. Did you jump off like a cliff into the sand pit? Into a, like a what's that called? Like a sand trap. Yeah, yeah, yeah yeah did you do that you jumped out the one we went to the exact location up in utah and his is so high it's probably like a six foot jump and i was like there's no way i'm doing it so it's just like a cut and then i'm like the sand oh you went to this the place yeah yeah that's in saint george you like they were really
Starting point is 00:29:37 cool they like we just had to get a couple permits and like yeah you can film here on an off day that like no one was using the place yeah they did They did fabulous by the pool. I forgot what it was called, but it was like, yeah, it was the Rio grant or something. Yeah. Maybe. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:48 And it was, nobody was there and I loved, but on it, that is like life changing for me. I think that's one of my favorite acting careers. What I would like to have is Zac Efron's. Oh, and like,
Starting point is 00:29:58 even just up until now, I remember that he obviously high school musical and that type of stuff. And then he did Neighbors. Yeah. And I was like, oh, I like you. Yeah. Like, you're funny. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:10 And then I don't know if you've seen Iron Claw. I talked so much about it on my podcast. It's my favorite movie. Oh, he is just like. How did he not get an Oscar nomination? No idea. Yeah. So good.
Starting point is 00:30:18 But he's just like so talented. Obviously handsome and shredded and, you know. Yeah. No, but talented. But so talented. Yeah. It shredded, you know? Yeah. No, but talented. So talented. Yeah. It hurts. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:28 And he seems like nice. I asked so many people about him. A lot of the girls that come on my podcast, I always have like a dating Zac Efron story. I'm like, you are so lucky. Like, how did this happen? He's my ultimate. He's my dream guy. I just want to know what's in his fridge.
Starting point is 00:30:39 I just want to know what his diet's like. What supplements is he on? What do you eat? That's so true. I wonder what. Oh, yeah. He's, I mean, he's, he's just shredded. He What do you eat? That's so true. I wonder what. Yeah. He's, I mean, he's, he's just shredded. He has great genes, but he's also like.
Starting point is 00:30:49 Whoa. Like Baywatch. Remember when he got so big and we're like, whoa, I love the way he looks every era. I'd love to have his Lincoln hairspray. As like a big girl, I remember loving hairspray and I was like, oh my God. Like I wish I could have been, I would have been the same age too. I'm like, God, I wish the casting. I wish I would have known about it.
Starting point is 00:31:03 Dude, you could have done that. I wish. Oh my God. And there was an unknown Tracy Turnblad. I think her name, I would have been the same age too. I'm like, God, I wish the casting, I wish I would have known about it. Dude, you could have done that. I wish. Oh my God. And there was an unknown Tracy Turnblad. I think her name, I forgot her name too. I know her name, but now I forgot it. And I was like, damn, she worked at Cold Stone. I was like, could have been me.
Starting point is 00:31:13 Cold Stone. Yeah. Oh, right, right, right, right. Yeah. Nikki Blonsky, that was her name who got it. But I'm the same age as all of them. I came in like 2007. It would have been perfect.
Starting point is 00:31:21 Love, Harrisburg. I heard, I don't know if I can say this. I think it's coming back to Broadway next year. Did I not say that Lynn Clark would it's coming back to Broadway next year. Did I not say that Link Clark would be a good role? Oh, you would be so good. Oh my God. I would do that.
Starting point is 00:31:32 To Broadway, really? Yeah, yeah. Okay, I'm going to, when I get off this, I'm going to text my agent. No, yeah, it's coming. I did hear. Because I would take off touring for that. Oh my God. To do another Hairspray. But they might have cast it already, huh?
Starting point is 00:31:42 No, I don't think so. And they're changing a lot of the script from what I heard. Oh, cool. Yeah, they're like readjusting it to 2024. And yeah, I loved it. Matthew Morrison trigger warning was in the original cast, which I had no idea. Wait, what trigger warning? I think TikTok has trigger warnings when it's Matthew Morrison.
Starting point is 00:31:56 Oh. I think just because people are triggered by him. They don't know stuff. I don't know the lore. I just don't know much, really. Do you know who Matthew Morrison is? Yeah, from Glee. From Glee.
Starting point is 00:32:04 People, and from Grinch. Do you remember the Gr Morrison is? Yeah, from Glee. From Glee. People, and from Grinch. Do you remember the Grinch live? I remember the Grinch of Jim Carrey. But that was iconic. Matthew Morrison did one during the pandemic. It was, you remember those NBC live shows? Yes, yeah, yeah. Which they did Grease.
Starting point is 00:32:17 Who was that? Who was Danny Zuko? That was Aaron Tavia. I auditioned for that one too. But that was when I lived in Ohio. I flew to New York and auditioned for that. Oh, no. Yeah, I don't even know if it was. I auditioned for that one too. But that was when I lived in Ohio. I flew to New York and auditioned for that. Oh, no. Yeah, I don't even know if it was.
Starting point is 00:32:28 I was just like, I'm in the Big Apple. Whoa, how do you get those auditions in Ohio? You had an agent? Yeah, I was like coming back and forth. I had an agent, yeah. Wow. They were just seeing everybody too. I've not gotten most of the stuff I've auditioned for.
Starting point is 00:32:43 You did. I think you're like on that wave for sure, especially with TikTok now. It's so interesting how it's like talent with like the influencer. It's like Addison Rae, right? She was like just an influencer, but she's also very talented. And now she's like in all these movies. I liked her. I liked He's All That.
Starting point is 00:32:56 Yeah, I did too. I thought it was fun. Did you see Thanksgiving with her? Yes. So good in that too. Yeah, it's great. And now she's like the front runner for Britney Spears. So, which would be wild. Whoa. Yeah. Whoa. Yeah. But I always think like when you're an influencer and then you also too. Yeah, it's great. And now she's like the front runner for Britney Spears. So, which would be wild.
Starting point is 00:33:05 Whoa. Yeah. Whoa. Yeah. But I always think like when you're an influencer and then you also have the talent, it's kind of like, cause I know when he came in here, I was like, oh, you're on time. Most influencers aren't, but I'm like, I guess you're not really an influencer, but I do consider you that cause you're on TikTok too.
Starting point is 00:33:16 Sure. So you're like both. You're like talented and. I did this, like, I've been doing this since like Vine was a thing. Like I've been doing music forever. Oh yeah. I wasn't even on Vine. What did you do? or singing sing six seconds
Starting point is 00:33:27 Kiki do you love me it's over and would you just sing yeah I would just like sing acapella I wasn't a Viner like it wasn't a thing that went well for me but I've been doing it that long so that was like yeah 2009 yeah then I tried Musical.ly and like two videos
Starting point is 00:33:44 and I was like I never did Musical.ly. Then I tried Musical.ly and like two videos and I was like. I never did Musical.ly either. Yeah. Yeah. I might've been too old for it. But how do you go, how do you get the X Factor UK? Cause that's, I guess why I thought maybe you were European too. Cause you're on the UK version.
Starting point is 00:33:54 Yeah. Imagine this entire interview. I just start talking in an accent and I'm like, I got you. Yeah. I would believe you. I've got you darling. Jonathan Bailey. Watch out.
Starting point is 00:34:06 My photographer's like, did they cast Wicked 2 already? I was like, well, here's your chance to be in it. I'm like, I think it's done. But yeah, I was like, could you imagine just the second part? Like Jonathan Bailey sounds the same. Oh my God, dude. What? This, I saw this like, cause you know, those lists that come out with the names.
Starting point is 00:34:21 Someone quoted it. And I honestly responded. I was like, this shouldn't be as funny as it is. This girl said, Spencer Sutherland is Fiero? I mean, what the hell? Yeah, maybe a Fiero smoked six cigars a day and wore eyeliner. Well, that's a good alternate universe. I was like, I responded.
Starting point is 00:34:41 I was like, that's pretty good. Why the cigars? I think it's because I sing with rasp. Oh. Yeah. It would have been kind it's because I sing with rasp. Oh. Yeah. It would have been kind of a serve, though, honestly. It would have been a good Fiyero. That's why I would like to see you do it on Broadway, because you're over six foot, which
Starting point is 00:34:51 I think every Fiyero on Broadway has to be over six foot is what I heard. Oh, seriously? Yeah. I like the high-waisted pants. I was like, I already dress like that. Oh, in the stage production of the movie. The movie. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:01 The stage production, he wears white high-waisted pants, and it's even better. I wish they would have given him white pants pants because I think that's what every girl loves in that one. Adam Lambert played Fiyero. Oh, yeah. Oh, my God. And it's so good with those white pants. And they're like dancing through the light and they do this little – it's a great role.
Starting point is 00:35:14 Yeah. Every girl falls in love with Fiyero for sure. What was I talking about before I said that? The list, the cigars, the raspiness. Before that. I don't know. Ohio auditioning for – oh, we were talking about the Grease. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. I guess, yeah yeah well that that's just my dream role interesting did you watch it like a little kid and you're like
Starting point is 00:35:30 you know who danny zucco is based off of elvis yeah stitch stitch elvis which is what jacob already based his elvis off of was lilo and stitch yeah did you hear that? No, but I can tell. He was an interesting Elvis. Did you watch it? Yeah. He was good. I didn't like him with the jumpsuit on. It didn't fit good and it was really cheap. Yeah. But he sounded like him. He just didn't look
Starting point is 00:35:57 like him at all and he was also 6'8". Yeah, so tall. And he said he tried to eat six pounds of bacon a day. I'm like, I don't know. It wasn't working. They should have padded him a little bit maybe. Yeah, he's a little skinny. Yeah, which it was an interesting choice. It was an interesting choice. But also you could tell the budget because when they would show him in Vegas, there'd
Starting point is 00:36:13 be no audience. It was just like lights. That's what I mean. I was like, just don't add it. You don't even need it. Yeah. Yeah, it was interesting. He was an interesting Elvis.
Starting point is 00:36:21 I don't need to see it again. You would? No, one time's enough. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's how I felt felt too i actually didn't watch the whole thing because i was like a little you know i don't know you know the whole story is like anyways um so you auditioned for oh let's talk about your album now so it's like a three part opera yeah there's like there's like sort of like different like acts to it um but the whole yeah i want i wanted to bring back like we were talking about glam rock
Starting point is 00:36:45 but like the the the rock opera album like the album that has like a specific it's not just like a single and another single another single it's like it kind of like sonically like works together and we some of the keys at the end of the songs uh go into the next song like it's like if the song if the song ends in a, the next one starts in a, um, and yeah, yeah. The, the, the lyrics tell the story too. It's basically just the story of my journey so far. It's so interesting. So it starts out with the beginning of the journey. Yeah. Called welcome to the show. Love it. So theatrical. Yeah. I love the drama already. It is, it is pretty theatrical. It's pretty theatrical and it kind of goes through,
Starting point is 00:37:23 it starts out really big and then in the middle, in the middle, it gets obviously heartbreaking and sad. And I like to tell that part too. Which is so interesting. Cause I was watching an interview yesterday and I was like, wow, he's really gone through it with some loves in his life. And you're like, no, I'm in love. I'm in a great relationship. It's not even about a person. And I was like, oh, I was like relating. Cause I'm like, wow, he really got hurt by someone. And you're like, it's not someone. Well, I've been hurt by a lot of people. Oh. But yeah, it's basically a lot of industry people, a lot of people.
Starting point is 00:37:50 The music industry. Yeah, it's gnarly. It's really, really tough. Because are you with a label? No, I'm with The Orchard. So I'm with like a boutique distribution company. But they're awesome. They let me do whatever I want.
Starting point is 00:38:03 That's nice. But you were with a big label? Or what jaded you? Uh, the many labels that almost signed me the minute, you know, just like all the stuff that I guess every musician goes through, but it's quintessential, like Hollywood BS when, when you get promised all this stuff and, um, it just, you get your heart broken so many times and I get why people quit. Like if I look back at my journey over the past 10, 11 years, I've been doing this 12 years, whatever. I can't believe I stuck with it. Like, Oh my God. What made you keep going? Uh, I was pretty delusional. Like I thought I was so close the entire time and I'm still not where I want to be. I want to like, I want, I want to tour like
Starting point is 00:38:42 the Rolling Stones to where I'm 75 still touring. Like I want to do that forever. I want to be in movies. I want to write stuff. I want to do, I'd love to do like a neighbor's type movie, like a comedy movie. I think I could do it. Oh, for sure. Who was it? Um, do you ever see house bunny? Do you know Tyson Ritter? Is that his name? Oh, he is awesome. Yeah. He gives that same vibe. He's so handsome too. That guy. He is very handsome. Yeah. And like person too. He's very like tall and striking. I did a music video with them and I remember being like, you're so gorgeous. With All Make and Rejects?
Starting point is 00:39:09 Yeah, it was called The Beekeeper's Daughter. Was that Universal? Yeah. I'm always in like, not the flop, but kind of the flop music videos that no one likes. It's always the songs that like no one cares for. You're in Katy Perry. Katy Perry, Eminem. I loved that video.
Starting point is 00:39:20 It's so crazy. I loved it too, but it didn't get like a good receiving of the song. People really didn't like it. And the Eminem one I was in was like his worst performing song. So I feel like I'm always like a curse for people in music videos. I like to do them. Maybe I'll have to be in my best one. And then it'll probably be your worst one. You're like, this is my great one. I'm like, I ruin it. I found it interesting too. You were talking about people in your music videos because I love doing music videos. Mine are all self-funded. I'm sure you get your funding from other people, but I love it. A little bit. Yeah. Yeah. You have to, because I went like, I literally, I talk about
Starting point is 00:39:48 this all the time. I think I spent $10 million on music videos and I had no property. I was still like living in my apartment and I was like, I'm just gonna spend all my money on music. Don't recommend it. Yeah, I know. But like, I kind of love that lore for you. I do too. And now I have Patreon. Do you do Patreon at all? You probably don't need it. No, but, um, I've thought about it before. before it's okay so I started my music tier on patreon and it like helped so much so that's how I got to do music videos again because music videos are expensive and I don't have any like label or anything like that so they're very expensive they're so even like the most simple like in front of a screen is like you know eight thousand dollars you know I also
Starting point is 00:40:18 believe in them still I know it's like about short form content, but I, I do believe that it, you get like a, a return on like the furthering of your branding, if that makes any sense. Yeah. It like helps the fan or the new person like really understand who you are. Totally. Yeah. Cause it's this like thing that, do you write your own treatments and stuff? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:39 I do. Yeah. Well, a lot of times I just copy, like kind of like you said with the bed on it. Sometimes I just copy a music video. I'm like, I love Britney Spears, you know, criminal. Let's do that. You know? So kind of, yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:48 I love the toxic video. Oh my gosh. My fave. I know to recreate that. Sometimes those ones like Hanukkah ones, I can't recreate cause I'm like, I can't even touch it. You know? I have to find more niche.
Starting point is 00:40:56 Britney Spears music videos in the mid 2000s was my sexual awakening. I think. Really? Yeah. Womanizer. Oh. And did you have a crush on her her did you think you wanted to be her oh the biggest crush you could ever have on someone there's a scene in womanizer where
Starting point is 00:41:09 she's just in a steam room oh yeah where she's like yeah sideways and then she has a silver robe after I just remember like missing my bus because I had to just like watch tv really interesting oh Brittany yeah she's my she's my favorite she's my everything oh she's my ultimate so great that's so interesting that you like as boy, because I feel like so many boys didn't like her. My friend, I think, should be Britney Spears. Who's your friend? Her name's Olivia Holt.
Starting point is 00:41:33 She's an actress. Oh, I know. Former Disney kid. Oh, she'd be great. She sounds just like her when she sings. Wait, really? Yeah, she can, yeah. I wonder if the auditions are happening or not yet.
Starting point is 00:41:43 I don't know yet. John M. Chu is directing it. The director. The goat. Oh, my God. She would be great. I know they said like Tate McRae. It would be.
Starting point is 00:41:49 Oh, there's a lot of people who could do a really good job. I just think she could do the best. Yeah, put it out there. Olivia Holtz. So John. I see it. I see it, too. I think that'd be.
Starting point is 00:41:57 Yeah, she looks like her, too. Yeah. Oh, man. Where's she from? Memphis. Which also helps. Yeah, right, right, right. I feel like when you're from that area, yeah, she'd be really good.
Starting point is 00:42:07 I can't wait to see who they get to play Britney. I know. It's going to be hard, though, because I do think it's kind of like Elvis, where I was like, no one can play Elvis. Like, when Harry Styles asked him, I was like, no, none of them can play Elvis. Harry Styles couldn't do it because, I mean, I'm sure he would do great, but I would just have a hard time seeing anything but Harry Styles when he's trying to be Elvis. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:23 Yeah. I think that's why it's hard. Yeah. That's why you'll be good at something. Big problem being a super famous singer. Be like, I only see Harry Styles. But I think that's why you'll be great. Because again, you are very popular,
Starting point is 00:42:33 but I think you're like unknown enough to be like, because I know you said you wanted to play Jim Morrison, was it? Yeah. Oh, yeah. Which would be great because they haven't done a Doors movie since what, Val Kilmer? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:42 And it's, I feel like that's like 30 years ago. Yeah. I think they could redo that. There was someone else. Someone told you. God, it was the Zach Sang interview. Love Zach. Cher.
Starting point is 00:42:50 I could play Cher. Would you? Let's hear Cher. I love Cher. I also did a Turn Back Time video where I like rented out a vessel. If I could turn back time. If I could find a way. Oh, you could do it.
Starting point is 00:43:04 No, I can't. I just love to like sing I think it's so much fun I love Dolly I love like all of them oh my god yeah I want to feature her
Starting point is 00:43:09 Dolly on a song so bad she's like getting into social media now have you met her no almost she I almost got to okay so she's trying
Starting point is 00:43:17 to do podcasts now and I almost got the chance to do it it still might happen maybe I don't know one of my agents I feel like she would love you
Starting point is 00:43:24 I would love her. You guys are like from the same like aesthetic and vibe. There's a certain yeah, a lot of girls can relate to Dolly. You know, she's kind of like just everything. She's been doing podcasts, so like fingers crossed. I love her. She's like my everything. But oh, Bon Jovi, someone said you could play. Was that
Starting point is 00:43:40 Dan from Zach Sang? He was like, you'd be a good Bon Jovi. Yeah, if there's like a rock and roll singer, white guy with brown hair, put me in. Put me in, coach. And so, yeah, I feel like those are good roles for you because it's such a breakthrough. Then maybe only people would see, like the guy who played Elton John. Sometimes I only see him as Elton John. He did a good job, too.
Starting point is 00:44:01 But he was in like this Kingsman movie, and I was like, oh, I gotta see him as Elton. I know, I know. It's kind of hard to break it. It is hard to break that. Honestly, I don't know if I'd even complain. Like, I would just, like, you know. Just give me that one lifetime. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:13 Same, same, same. If you get the chance to do it, you might as well. So the heartbreak is about the industry, not in real life. There's no woman in your life or man in, I don't know. You have a girlfriend now. I have a girlfriend, yeah. I've had a girlfriend for nine years. Okay.
Starting point is 00:44:27 Yeah. So you consider yourself, like, open or hetero or fluid or like um just hetero okay yeah love love love um what's hetero again I don't know what is it really is anyone really hetero I don't know um no I I think I mean I obviously like I'm sitting here I'm looking at Zac Efron and I'm like gorgeous yeah yeah like I think it's crazy to for anyone to think that they can't look at Zac Efron I don't think he's like like I look at young Elvis especially and just like just drooling a little bit no he's actually the most gorgeous person ever like I look at him I'm like oh my gosh back to Elvis yeah sorry well my daughter has a little curl right now and so everyone on TikTok is like she has Elvis's curl like i really want to believe that she's like elvis reincarnate i'm like i feel like poor thing she's gonna have like a crisis because for her first birthday already i was like call
Starting point is 00:45:12 justin i'm like we need elvis impersonator yeah i'm like i have to figure out i think i'm gonna do if i can dream for her number one yeah i'm gonna do themes each year for anyways i do love elvis so much yeah okay everything about i almost put the middle name Presley cause my daughter's Malibu Barbie. I almost named her Elvis Presley Paytas, but I was like, let me not be crazy. Um, okay. So then the third act of your album, this is God say, Oh God say the dream is the heartbreak. Uh, so, so no. Is that?
Starting point is 00:45:39 Yes it is. Yes it is. Sorry. Originally it was at the end. Okay. Okay. The original track listing was that way, but I changed it last minute because the album ends with a song called Place Like This, and the tag is Heartbreak Feels Good in a Place
Starting point is 00:45:52 Like This, which is the Nicole Kidman. Yes. Sometimes heartbreak feels good in a place like this. Is that what the reference was? AMC. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Shout out, AMC.
Starting point is 00:46:01 I love the way that trailer made me feel. And we were in a session, and I was like, I want to way that that like trailer made me feel and I was we were in a session and I was like I want to like feel like ethereal like that yeah like that's such a crazy statement heartbreak feels good in a place like this like I wish we could just write a song like that my friend Sam she was like we should let's just do that yeah yeah yeah so then we just did and it it just kind of like the the third act of the album is basically like, you know, it starts out confident. Then I break my heart and then it comes back and I'm confident again. But it's like a new found.
Starting point is 00:46:30 I'm sure of myself. I've been through it. I know. I kind of know what's going on now. I know who to trust. I know how to navigate life now. And I just feel that way. Like when I turned 30, it was.
Starting point is 00:46:43 I've just never felt more like myself in my life. Oh, the best. And I'm only 23, so. Wow. You time traveled. Yeah. I'm Benjamin. I button.
Starting point is 00:46:54 You do look like it. You keep it up. Well, when I hit 30, I was like so scared, but now I love it. I'm 36 now and I love it. I've never like, I'm like, I finally hit that thing where I was like, oh, I don't feel like I, I've only been to like one club ever. Yeah. And I hated it.
Starting point is 00:47:07 And I just felt like I needed to like go to bars and clubs like that. Yes. And now I go to just like, you know, dive bar near my house. That's all I go to. Like, I don't need to do like. In the valley? I love that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:18 I'll tell you after. Okay. I'm like, wait, what? You've definitely been to this place. I don't know. I've actually never been to, I think I've been to maybe two bars my whole life. So probably not. I'll give him a shout out. Laurel Ta know. I've actually never been to, I think I've been to maybe two bars my whole life. So probably not. I'll give them a shout out.
Starting point is 00:47:25 Laurel Tavern. Oh, okay. Yeah. That one is. When I was on Tinder, everybody always wanted to meet there. I was like, hmm, kind of an odd place. It's a vibe. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:47:34 I haven't been to clubs either. I remember asking people like, what do you do at clubs? You just like stand there and like talk. You lose your voice. You have to yell. Oh, shouting and stuff. Like Vegas clubs, have you ever been there? Yeah, that's the only club I've been to.
Starting point is 00:47:44 Oh, in Vegas. Yeah. And what did you do?'ve been to. Oh, in Vegas. Yeah. And what did you do? It was my girlfriend's birthday. Okay. And so like, you know, it was free like stuff and they had the big like sign with sparklers that said her name on it. Oh, cute.
Starting point is 00:47:56 And that was fun. And we were next to the DJ booth. And then I left and I was like, yeah, it was cool. Don't need to do it again. Yeah. That was enough. Yes. Like just once is enough to like get the vibe of it. And also man, just like. What's better than a well
Starting point is 00:48:11 marbled ribeye sizzling on the barbecue? A well marbled ribeye sizzling on the barbecue that was carefully selected by an Instacart shopper and delivered to your door. A well marbled ribeye you ordered without even leaving the kiddie pool. Whatever groceries your summer calls for, Instacart has you covered. Download the Instacart app and enjoy $0 delivery fees on your first three orders. Service fees, exclusions, and terms apply. Instacart, groceries that over-deliver. Looking around and, God, men are so creepy, you know? Yes.
Starting point is 00:48:44 Like, really, like, you don't it until you're in one of those positions. And I'm sure like if you're a woman, like you notice it a lot more. Yeah. But I like look around, I'm just like, Ooh, no, men are terrifying. Yeah. They're, they're really, really scary. Yeah. It's very rare.
Starting point is 00:48:59 I have like a straight man on this podcast cause they scare me so much, but I think your femme energy comes off a little bit. So that's why I'm like, okay, this person I I feel safe with we always have like girls nights and stuff and then I'm there it's like Spencer and the girls you're the honorary girl I love that so much because it is fun to have like a guy around but just like the guys in general I'm like yeah I don't know that energy and also even little boys as young as like three my daughter's two and a half it's like they're just so problematic they try to like pull her arm or like do I'm like can you not they're like three year olds I'm like they're boys I'm like stop like they're just so problematic. They try to like pull her arm or like do this. I'm like, can you not? They're like three-year-olds.
Starting point is 00:49:25 I'm like, they're boys. I'm like, stop. Like they're just kind of the worst. But you seem okay, so. Yeah. As far as men go, I'll take okay. Yeah. That's good enough for me.
Starting point is 00:49:34 And you've been in a like long-term committed. And you always shout her out, which I love in your interviews too. You always are like, I'm so in love with this person. Because a lot of times, especially like singers, I feel like have to like hide it, right? Like the One Direction guys, they have to be single yeah I feel like that was like very 2010 yeah like I feel like it's different oh people I love when people are like I love my wife because you just like never like Lin-Manuel Miranda does it all the time talks about his wife all the time and she's like oh finally a guy that like is proud you know what I mean and is not trying to like
Starting point is 00:49:59 hide anything also it's not like there's gonna be be someone who is a giant fan. They're like, oh, you have a girlfriend? I hate your music now. At least an adult, yeah. They love her. Well, she's a star, too. How is that? I know you don't talk a lot about it in personal life, but having two superstars in a relationship, does it feel competitive?
Starting point is 00:50:20 How does it work? It really, I'd like to say it has, just for the drama of it all. Yeah. Out now. Hey, keep it in. year. Um, keep that one in, uh, huh? No, not competitive at all. Like it really, really, I I've been so lucky with her because she's helped, you know, she like is like in the demographic of someone who would listen to my music. So like, I'm like, is this pic cool? Or is this, she's like, no, I like do this one because, you know, they would like this more. And it's like having like a personal A&R person at home.
Starting point is 00:50:57 Yeah, that's actually so cool. Yeah. She has like my brain, but she also has like the eyes of other people. So it's, oh, it's been really, really helpful. yeah like like you said like she's a star she's been in every movie ever and um i love one of my favorite things to do is go to her premieres i love it i'll cry there really yeah because you're like so proud so proud i mean i can't even imagine because like to me someone in a movie is like the coolest thing in the whole world, but then multiple movies and huge movies. It made me want to act like it literally was like, was like the catalyst behind me acting. Cause I saw, you know, you see her
Starting point is 00:51:31 name in the credit and you see you on screen. And one thing that's been happening, she's, she's not just in a bunch of stuff. She's really good. Like she's really talented and she's doing this show right now. And there's a real uh a really big actor in it um this the guy has been in a lot of stuff and he it was really cool to see someone of his caliber give her like that she's a real one like she is so talented oh that's so cool like that's like you know when i got a dm from john legend that was like you sound oh my god like that what did he say i did his open verse he, and he did a reaction video to it. I know.
Starting point is 00:52:09 It's so cool. Was that your biggest moment from like a modern day celebrity? Um, Shania Twain was big too. I love Shania Twain. What did she do? I did. I covered, um, still the one that I want. So open verse on TikTok cause I seen it.
Starting point is 00:52:23 So like someone puts out and you duet edit and you can just do like whatever. Yeah. Oh yeah. And Shania Twain, you did that with. Yeah. Shania, John legend.
Starting point is 00:52:32 Um, I forget who else, but yeah, it's so cool. It's crazy that like, you know, even like how we contacted each other, like you can,
Starting point is 00:52:38 you basically have everybody's number. Yeah. Like if they check it enough. Right. And if you're verified, then you have a good chance of someone seeing your message. On TikTok or Instagram more so,
Starting point is 00:52:48 do you think you get DM'd? Instagram probably. Really? Because TikTok you have to follow because I followed you for a while. That's right. And it wasn't until you followed back and I was like,
Starting point is 00:52:55 say hi to this person. Okay, now I can DM. I just don't check my Instagram DM like that so I never think to DM someone but you're saying people do. Yeah. Okay. Yeah, I DM a lot of people.
Starting point is 00:53:03 Really? And they see it? Yeah. Yeah, for the most part. I mean, sometimes they don't and then i unsend it resend it again do you i have done it and it's worked i send you know what messaged me back one time was the week i have it framed somewhere the weekend messaged me back and at first one was his team but then it was him and i was like wow okay abel like i was so excited like i mean insane yeah i love the weekend i don't like i go through phases but but the weekend was definitely one of my phases.
Starting point is 00:53:27 But yeah, and Meghan Trainor DM'd you on TikTok? Yeah, on Instagram. On Instagram. Yeah. And you guys did a song together. Yeah, she invited me over a day later. That's wild. I don't think she's in that same house, but did you go to that house that was so extravagant
Starting point is 00:53:39 in the backyard? Yes, that's the house. She's in a different one now. Yeah, yeah, she's in a different one. That one was insane. I was like. She never showed it anywhere, and I was like, girl, like, what is this? It's like an amusement park or something back there. I was like, damn, no, it was Megan
Starting point is 00:53:51 trainer's house is such an experience. Well, her old house, I'm sure the new one's even more of an experience. I was like, wait, how are you going to move out of that one? So you recorded like downstairs in her house, her, her old house. Yeah. The one that's like not yeah yeah yeah i saw the recording so i was like carl you have you're living the dream i know i know she's like so famous too i always forget about that like madison square garden she just played and i was like oh my god the whole tour like i was like dude what yeah she's so famous yeah she's so humble and sweet and you're just like oh it's just like a again influencer you're on tiktok and i'm like oh no this is like a superstar it was the biggest song ever. Big superstar. And also, like, I love how she treats up and coming artists and younger artists.
Starting point is 00:54:29 Like, she really gives people a chance. And she really believes in them and, like, listens and spends time. And, you know, we even hung out outside of that. Like, she's a really, like, great person. Me and Maddie and her and Daryl, like, would go hang out. Wow. I love Daryl, too. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:54:43 He's, like, super sweet. Also a superstar. And you're just like, wow, you're so humble. I was just walking through the living room. And I look on the wall. And he just has his Spy Kids outfit framed. And I was just like. So iconic.
Starting point is 00:54:54 I was so into Spy Kids. Yes. Same, same. And I was a little older. And I still loved it. I was like, wait, I'm going to love this. And they're iconic. An iconic duo.
Starting point is 00:55:02 And then I met Big Time Rush, Carlos. You opened for them? Yeah, I opened for them. Oh, so you knew Carlos first? No, I didn't know Carlos first, but Carlos' wife, Alexa, is the other Spy Kid. Alexa put him in. Oh, so did you know her before you met? No.
Starting point is 00:55:18 Okay, so you. I just was like talking to both Spy Kids at one time. Yeah, you're like, wow, I really made it. Yeah. It is cool. I mean, she's amazing. I love both of them so much. I don't know anything about Big Time Rush, but I know they were really big and you opened for them. How did that come about? I knew Logan from the band. He was doing some solo stuff and we met that way. And then we kind
Starting point is 00:55:37 of became friends and started grabbing drinks and stuff. And then I met Kendall as well. And one day at the gym, they started going to my gym because I told them about this cool boutique gym that now is gone. It's demolished. Was it Crunch? No, Crunch Fitness. That was the place.
Starting point is 00:55:52 It was a boutique 24 hour. No, I'm kidding. 24 hour fitness. 24 hour fitness, Riverside. No, Studio City.
Starting point is 00:55:59 This is a place. It was called Built and it was like boutique and like private. A lot of actors like went there. It was cool. Was it off Laurel? Yep. And it's closed?'s closed it's closed you know the one i'm talking about by flair yeah yeah yeah oh my god that's crazy i'm so mad was it because of the pandemic uh no they they just like someone bought it oh okay yeah i remember everyone would like take pictures there and i was like oh that's so cool yeah yeah so that was the gym and you guys would go like work
Starting point is 00:56:20 yeah and then one like we you know we would like talk to each other and like hang a little bit and then one they announced tour and I just like asked them. I was just like. No way. Guys, I know you have like everybody asking to open for you on this tour. And I just want you to know that like we would have a great time and I'm interested. Wow. And then two days later we had like an offer in our inbox.
Starting point is 00:56:38 They're, yeah, those. No way. Yeah. Put it out there and then you get it. Like ask and you shall receive. I think most of the things, most of the good things have been me like. Asking. Asking.
Starting point is 00:56:47 Or just like DMing someone or calling in a favor or something, you know. Wow. It's hard. It's really hard to get on a tour. Yeah. I'm like, how do people open for like such big acts like that? But like you're at the stage where you're playing like big theaters. I would like to open for someone though.
Starting point is 00:57:03 I'd open for you. I'd open for anyone. Doing like, doing like arenas. You'd be good in. Cause everybody would know you too. Arenas would be wild. Like if you open for,
Starting point is 00:57:14 if you open for, I would like to know, I want to, I'll give you my answer. I want to know what you think I should open for. Well, like, like a share would be so good.
Starting point is 00:57:24 Oh my God. that would be crazy. But fan base wise, man, if you did like an Arena Gwen Stefani tour or like, oh, if you open for Pink, they would die. Oh my God. Okay. Those are like huge. Those are like the biggest names ever. I love it.
Starting point is 00:57:40 Pink or Gwen Stefani, call me. My dream is my chemical romance. DM them. Unsend it, then resend it I just keep sending I just keep sending it over and over hey hey that's me I am that person like love you but but now Instagram stops you at like one they have to like accept it now before you can like spam them so yeah my dream is um just in Timberlake won't be oh dude yeah that would actually make so much sense I have a cover band of My Chemical Romance where I dress as Gerard Way, and I would love
Starting point is 00:58:08 that so much. They're playing arenas. No, they're playing stadiums. Dodger Stadium. When? Next year. Do you know who's opening for them? Maybe me.
Starting point is 00:58:16 I just think if you go out on that stage and you do one little thing about My Chemical Romance, like you do a half song or something, you. You win them over for the, like, you'll have. I would love. Do you know what I mean? I've done every tribute music video to them. We spent, what, like, half a million dollars going to Long Beach to, like, recreate Ghost of You. Like, I just, like, love them so much. I love your.
Starting point is 00:58:38 Fandom. I do. But I love your. You have been so relevant for so long. Oh. And you are just, like, I just love your, you have been so relevant for so long. Oh. And you are just like, I just love your career. Thanks. I'm shocked.
Starting point is 00:58:50 I'm so shocked that you're even here. Like, I guess, again, because you're friends. But I'm like, I'm always shocked people know me because I've just been around for like so long. I've always gone like under the radar, but I like that. I've never really popped off. I kind of don't mind being under the radar. What are you talking about?
Starting point is 00:59:01 Like I'm there and people know, but I think if you get like too big, you get like a burnout. You know what I mean? Sure. Like a crash out. I see what you mean. Yeah. Yeah. Crash,
Starting point is 00:59:08 crash no. Yeah. I haven't had a crash out yet. I'm 36. I've done this since I was 18. So I haven't had a crash out yet. Hell yeah. Hopefully I'll keep going like you.
Starting point is 00:59:15 I don't know about till I'm 75, but maybe like 65. Yeah. Maybe I'm stretching a little bit, but I love seeing those old rock bands. Just like still, it's just so legendary. I mean,
Starting point is 00:59:24 it is. Paul McCartney's 80. He's just still out there playing guitar the wrong way. He's my dream guest for sure. I love Paul McCartney too. I met him once. How was he? Uh,
Starting point is 00:59:33 so lovely. Sweet. Where was it? Uh, this is the most LA sentence ever. I met Paul McCartney at Soho house. Wait, really?
Starting point is 00:59:39 Okay. Love that. Yeah. We were like, I was talking to me and my friend, like in the outdoor bar area and it was kind of crowded. I felt like a hand right here.
Starting point is 00:59:48 I was like, Oh, sorry. And it was Sir Paul McCartney. He put his hand on you. He was like trying to get through and we're like, and we just couldn't help it. We're just like, Hey, Hey Paul. He was like, you all right? You all right? We shook, we shook his hand and then he left.
Starting point is 01:00:02 We didn't, obviously you can't take pictures in there, but I wouldn have asked anyway what i i know soho house is like exclusive but what is inside of it like or can you don't talk about it i signed an nda with soho house i know people go there i'm never gonna buy to do these things i have no idea a bunch of blood uh cult rituals all over the place and free uh cookies and their photo, right? They have a photo booth in there? Yeah, but to get in there, you have to pick your finger inside and blow it on the wall. I don't think that. La, la, la. Wow.
Starting point is 01:00:31 That was like Parcel Tongue. Dude, Parcel Tongue and Wicked, she's doing that. Oh. The ancient. It's not really Parcel Tongue, but it reminded me of that. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. She does do an act one. Act two, she does it too.
Starting point is 01:00:42 She's like, hum, da, num, da, hum, da, da, da, da. Dude, it's crazy. Yeah. I love witchy stuff. I used to pretend to be a witch as a kid i loved it so house restaurant bar it's just like oh okay it's a great view and a great vibe it's just exclusive that's nothing special were you a member or a guest guest i know too many people that are members that i don't ever want to become a member because then i i would go there too much and hang out all the time yeah i don't want to do that so you don't go out to clubs but like that kind of place you do like what is your love that okay do you like to go out i
Starting point is 01:01:08 love a like a dark mad men bar i love that so much yeah so what you guys on like a typical weekend you're going out to soho house movies like what do you do yeah go see a lot of movies yeah um i love to just like to grab drinks at the local dive bar. Like I love that. And you guys just go out. Just talk and hang out. I love it. And it's just so fun to maybe go to another spot.
Starting point is 01:01:34 And I like live close to these spots. So I walk home and it's just like. Oh, the best. Yeah. No parking. Yeah. Yeah. Right.
Starting point is 01:01:40 And nine years. How do you keep it exciting after nine years? We've only been together five years. I think five years is long, but nine years um we spent a lot of time apart a lot of time yeah because because she films and i tour and sometimes at the same time which is really tough i would say communication is just massive yeah like and we've learned that like every time we're feeling disconnected or something we learn how to like talk about that and like yeah i couldn't even imagine actually being apart that long.
Starting point is 01:02:07 Yeah. It's like how long, like a month, two months. We've done four months before. Not crazy. And are you talking about, well,
Starting point is 01:02:13 I cannot do it. Oh my God. We're together every day. I'm like, FaceTime is a godsend. Okay. So you FaceTime every day. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:02:19 Yeah. Wow. Yeah. At least a couple of times a day. What are your guys? What's your sign? I'm a Virgo. Oh, September or? August 31st. August 31 are your guys' – what's your sign? I'm a Virgo. Oh, September or –
Starting point is 01:02:26 August 31st. August 31st, okay. She's an Aquarius. Oh, interesting. Okay, that makes sense actually. My daughter's a Virgo. February. February's Aquarius.
Starting point is 01:02:36 Beginning of February? February 14th, Valentine's Day. Yeah, that's Aquarius. Yeah, it starts January 22nd. I just don't want to get in trouble if I'm wrong. Valentine's Day, that's cute. What a day to be born on. Oh, that's so cool. To be born on the day of love. It's so much better because we don't like to get in trouble if I'm wrong. Valentine's Day, that's cute. What a day to be born on. Oh, that's so cool.
Starting point is 01:02:45 To be born on the day of love. It's so much better because we don't celebrate Valentine's Day. Oh, no. That's so sad, though. Oh, it's great because it's Valentine's Day. It's her birthday. I know, but you can double the presents for her? No.
Starting point is 01:02:57 Oh. I don't get heart stuff. Oh, OK, OK, OK. I think it's fun to have the same Valentine's Day. It's really fun. Her whole life growing up, her birthday at school was overshadowed by it, so she doesn the same Valentine's Day. It's really fun. Her whole life growing up, her birthday at school was like overshadowed by it. So she doesn't like Valentine's Day, which is actually great for me because I'm like, I don't love it either.
Starting point is 01:03:10 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I do love it. I think it's kind of fun. It is. I'm just my cynical, my heartbreak cynical. Heartbreak act two of the drama.
Starting point is 01:03:20 You've done so many genres and you're doing like this like rock opera. What's a genre you would like to try that you haven't already? I really don't know if I ever will. But I can't stop listening to the Post Malone country album. And I was just like, what if I did country soul someday? Would you? Maybe. Right now, I have some more exploring to do on the rock opera front.
Starting point is 01:03:42 I want to make a couple more. It feels correct and it feels exciting and big. and like not enough people are doing it which is a great no one is doing it i don't think maybe harry styles a little bit yeah but but even that last album he was i think he was about to do that and that last album went kind of indie rock um i've got the watermelon sugar song that's his his? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That's kind of like disco-y. Yeah, that album is my favorite album. So good.
Starting point is 01:04:10 That's your vibe, I feel like, on stage. Like, when he did Coachella, like, I was like, oh, it looks like the same person. Like, you know what I mean? Oh, I get so many, like, Timu Harry Styles comments and shit. Why does Timu get so much hate? Like, I think it's fine. But Walmart Harry Styles. Yeah, Timu's fine. And I love Walmart, too.
Starting point is 01:04:22 I have, we have Shawn Mendes at home. Oh, God, you really do kind of look like everybody. I just, no, you know what it is? It's just like a guy with, a tall white guy with dark hair. No, you have, no, it's a certain vibe. Because you don't look like Will Ferrell, you know what I mean? Yes, I do. Like, you know.
Starting point is 01:04:42 John C. Reilly. Like, you have, like, a very specific look. I mean, I don't want to look like John C. Reilly. I don't mind him. Although, yeah, he's had a great career. Yeah, I think. And also, he's kind of musical, too. He was in Chicago.
Starting point is 01:04:53 Have you ever seen Walk Hard, the Dewey Cox story? Oh, my God. Yeah, I don't know if I like that one. That's a crazy movie. No, I just think it's like, I just watched it recently. I was just like. I know. I kind of wanted to love it because I love biopics.
Starting point is 01:05:03 And I love the idea of a parody of a biopic movie. But I was like. It's almost too parody. I think that's what I know. I kind of wanted to love it because I love biopics and I love the idea of a parody of a biopic movie, but I was like. It's almost too parody. I think that's what it is. I kind of don't get it. I don't know if it was meant for me. He keeps ripping the sinks off the wall. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:05:13 Everything. Wait, you kind of love it. I feel like you're a fan. I think I do like it. Because you know all the references of it. I did see it for the first time and when, I think it was Tyler Hilton who played Elvis, I got mad. He's like, look out, man.
Starting point is 01:05:30 You're like, that could have been me. I me i was like no he's cooler than that and now i love every lore of elvis yeah i love that we keep coming back to elvis because in the jerry lewis movie no i love it too every time we watch something there's always like an elvis character and i always like critique him did you ever see great balls of fire with dennis quaid yeah i've been trying to watch it but you can't get it anywhere we have the d DVD. We had to get it. We literally just watched it the other day because I was trying to stream it. Yeah, you can't, I wonder why. It's very weird.
Starting point is 01:05:49 I don't know. Yeah. It's a good one though. I used to love it as a kid and then I watched it, literally we watched it like a month ago for the first time. Oh, it wasn't as good.
Starting point is 01:05:57 Yeah, but I was kind of like, I don't know. I kind of like idolized it as a kid. Like I loved Gary Lee Lewis. I'm like, okay, a little much. I don't know. America Cousin is wild. I love the the temp dude don't even get me started i love the temptations
Starting point is 01:06:10 biopic have you seen that one no is alvis in it no oh you just love it i just love it i was i was like was he temptations um no i haven't seen it it's my my fate one of my favorites is it older or is it a newer one yeah late 90s but it doesn't feel like it is. I love the 10 Patients. I mean, it's so good. It like is so, so, so good. Any big actors in it? Any name actors or is it all? Yes, but like not anybody
Starting point is 01:06:33 that I remember their names. They've been a lot of stuff. What's like, you know, like every time I watch a biopic, you like learn the hardships. Like Johnny Cash is like, okay, he was like cheating and drinking.
Starting point is 01:06:41 Like you're always like, what is theirs? Because I imagine they like squeaky clean to me. Same. Yeah. A lot of drinking, a lot of cheating,
Starting point is 01:06:47 a lot of drugs. Oh, Tempations? Oh yeah. David Ruffin did more cocaine than I've ever heard of anybody doing. Oh yeah. He's such a good singer too.
Starting point is 01:06:55 Oh. I know you wanna leave me. He's so good. His, yeah, the range of Tempations, who's the other one? What's the one that sings Sherry, who's that?
Starting point is 01:07:04 Frankie Valli. Frankie Valli, yeah. Like back in the day when they do, you kind of do that. You kind of have like? What's the one that sings? Sherry, who's that? Frankie Valli. Like, back in the day when they do, you kind of do that. You kind of have, like, the falsetto. Is it falsetto? I don't know. Yeah, falsetto, yeah. Yeah, where they sing so high. I'm like, nobody sings like that anymore.
Starting point is 01:07:13 It's, like, so cool. Michael Jackson obviously did that a lot. Yeah, I miss that a little bit. Well, you're bringing it back with all your music, which I think is amazing. I'm trying to. Bring back guitar solos, I say. Do you play guitar? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:07:24 Like. I don't shred. Okay. I know how to play guitar. Yeah. I'm. Do you play guitar? Yeah. Like. I don't shred. Okay. I know how to play guitar. Yeah. I'm not like a soloer. My guitarist, Jordan, is like outstandingly good. You perform with a live band.
Starting point is 01:07:33 Yeah. Are you doing that Jingle Ball? Yeah. Jingle Ball? Yeah, Jingle Ball. Guitarist, drummer, keyboardist, and then we have tracks, obviously. And you sing live? I lip sync everything.
Starting point is 01:07:50 Yeah, funny. It was was controversial who was it uh troy savant and he's saying sabrina carpenter stopped singing with her tracks he's like i'm gonna keep singing do you sing at all with any track at all or are you just singing only raw i have tracks in there but like but they're like the harmonies in the chorus yeah yeah like i don't want to not have harmonies just to prove that i can sing you just start harmonizing with yourself yeah i. I do like split tone. Do you have backup singers with you? No, I want to do that. Yeah. Honestly, at this point, it's just like a monetary thing.
Starting point is 01:08:12 Yeah, yeah. No. When it makes sense, I want to bring like three backup singers, you know, add a bass player, get a crazy like – our stage set's cool. Yeah. But it would be nice to have a crazy stage set. But we're in small theaters and clubs, so it's hard to have a catwalk in those places. No, I know.
Starting point is 01:08:31 My tour agent people, too, were just like, oh, you could just be you. They just want to see you. And I'm like, no, I have to bring my dancers. I have to bring a sound tech. You have to bring it all to make it a show. I think that's why a lot of even big bands like Lady Gaga and stuff like that, I feel like a lot of times they don't even make money. They end up breaking even.
Starting point is 01:08:44 All the time. Yeah. It's also like if you want them like a lot of times they don't even make money. They end up breaking even. All the time. Yeah. It's also like if you want them to keep coming, you have to give them a show. Yeah. If you want to make a little bit of money and not give them a good show, they won't come back next time. Yeah. And then now with TikTok, people are taking so many videos.
Starting point is 01:08:55 That's what I was thinking with my Christmas shows. I'm like, we have to make it good. Yeah. It's going to be all over TikTok. People are going to see that. I'm just karaoke-ing out there by myself. People are going to be like, what is this? Maybe they would like it, but also I need to put on a show too.
Starting point is 01:09:04 It's so great. But I know what you mean. Coming with like everybody, it does take. Are you rehearsing for it and stuff? Yeah, we're doing it today. We're at center staging. So I go to perfect. Oh, that's where I rehearse. Really? Oh my God. We're at the small one today. We're in stage two today. So I forget which one I'm in, but it's not, it's not a giant one. It's fun though because it has, I haven't done Ian ears before. It's my first time doing those. I, I, I kind of nervous. Like what if they stop working? Like, I don't know. All of it sounds very nerve-wracking to me are they ultimate ears um i have no idea i just got them off amazon oh they're not like fitted you gotta get them fitted
Starting point is 01:09:33 really i mean i'm only doing three shows right now but we'll see after this will be a good one to like to like learn how to use them and then for your next tour or whatever you should go get uh molded yeah okay yeah i'll send you to the person there. Okay. I need to. I need to. I'm like really nervous. Because again, this is my bigger shows, like Beacon and stuff. I used to play like smaller ones.
Starting point is 01:09:49 You're playing the Beacon? Yeah, December 10th. Oh my God. Is it sold out? It's sold out in like, what, 30 minutes? Yeah, it's sold out. I know. So I put the pressure on me.
Starting point is 01:09:57 You know how big of a deal that is? Now I do, yes. I think, yeah. Except how big of a deal that is. That is so sick. I'm excited. I am excited. Because the last big of a deal that is. That is so sick. I'm excited. I am excited. Because the last tours I did were a lot smaller and, you know, I was happy.
Starting point is 01:10:09 Oh, it's so cool. Yeah. So it's cool. It's with the podcast. So again, I like shout out to the podcast for like helping people rediscover my music. I love that. Yeah. And like you said, investing in yourself, the music videos, I invested so much in throughout
Starting point is 01:10:19 the years and now I get to actually perform them. So it doesn't feel like a lost cause. I'm telling you. Yeah, right. Like it really did. It really helps more than you know, even if it doesn't help in the moment. Because you don't see like a bunch of money back from it. Yeah, right.
Starting point is 01:10:29 That's not what you're seeing. I saw no money back. I was just like spending money on, you know, music videos. $60 on AdSense. My first music video ever was Little Less Conversation. And I did a cover. Why have I not seen that? Well, I had to get permission from the Elvis estate.
Starting point is 01:10:43 That was Presley, you know. EPE, yeah. Yeah. And so that's a tricky one. that well i had to get permission from the elvis estate that was presley you know yeah and so that's a tricky one and when you cover an elvis song legally like you can't dress like elvis so i had all the costumes as through the era i didn't know this yeah so they were like okay so like the day before they're like okay you can do everything but you can't wear the jumpsuit you can't wear the 68 comeback special outfit like it has to be not elvis so we had to switch all my costumes the day before and i was like okay so yeah then we had to switch all my costumes the day before. And I was like, okay, so yeah,
Starting point is 01:11:05 then we just to something kind of like it. Yeah. I ended up being like in a seventies, like silk jumpsuit or something. So it didn't look like Elvis, but they're very strict with it. And after that I was like, okay,
Starting point is 01:11:13 I can't do any more. I do know they're strict about stuff. Yeah. Yeah. Hopefully so. Yeah. We, you went to Graceland.
Starting point is 01:11:19 I got like a secret tour. So many. Yeah. How did you get that? I, um, I'll introduce you to the these people um angie and alicia at graceland there and they become like best friends now and you went to all these like
Starting point is 01:11:32 secret places yeah really really cool stuff i i got to try on elvis's rings and his glasses and oh my gosh and yeah i i've i just am so i look back at when I was like a kid and I'm like if I could think that I'd be in here right now like because that's the reason I started doing music yeah if I could if I could like tell myself I'd be like looking at the you know looking at his piano this close and just like unbelievable yeah unbelievable and just being in there when it's quiet or like being by his grave when it's quiet like oh my gosh i have to introduce you to them they would love to meet you i would love to meet them because albus to me is like a spiritual like in every single way like i get chills like our room upstairs we're doing like the peacock room with
Starting point is 01:12:19 the stain thing like i just everything to feel like close to him i'm gonna send this to angela yeah please we love albus my daughter's albus we didn't know if it was a boy or girl like whatever this baby is it's gonna be elvis because it just always was the name i just always like felt like i have to have a baby elvis you know elvis is cool name too because it's like it's it's kind of you could be a girl it could be a boy like it's it's just a cool like it's just yeah it's like a fun name i think there's another baby named Elvis. There was a Broadway actor who had a baby named Elvis, but it was a boy. I think she might be our first girl, Elvis.
Starting point is 01:12:49 So yeah. But Elvis is cool in every way. Just the person, the being, everything. What are you performing at Jingle Bell? Jingle Ball. Jingle Ball. Jingle Ball. Is it Jingle Ball or Jingle Ball?
Starting point is 01:12:58 It's Jingle Ball. Jingle Ball. I'm performing, I think I have a 20-minute set. So it's a short one. Wait, that feels big. In front of 18,000? No, no. The main show's inside.
Starting point is 01:13:12 I'm right outside of the arena. OK. They call it a village stage. OK. It's me and Addison Rae. No way. And a K-pop band who I can't remember their name. Powell, I think.
Starting point is 01:13:23 Oh my gosh. And. Legends, honestly. all of them. McKenna Grace, shout out to her. Wow. Which is really weird because she played, my girlfriend did a movie called Annabelle Comes Home and she played the little girl that Maddie babysat.
Starting point is 01:13:37 Oh my gosh. And now I'm playing a show with her. Did you ever get to meet her? Yeah. Oh my gosh. But she was like 13 at the time. Now I think she's like 19. Wow. Yeah, or something like that. Oh my God. 13 at the time. Now I think she's like 19. Wow.
Starting point is 01:13:45 Yeah, or something like that. Full circle. Oh, my God. That's so fun. So are you going to do holiday music or just your songs? No, I'm going to do I think four originals and a cover. I don't know what the cover is going to be yet. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 01:13:55 It's like a week away. Well, we have like three prepared. OK. So it's just like fun? You're just like whatever it's going to be? We also don't start rehearsal until just like two days before. Really? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:14:03 Because you just came back from a tour. It's a similar set to what I did in Europe. We're just like swapping a song. And I just did a show at the Citadel Outlets, which was so fun. I saw your pictures from that. I always see it off the freeway. I'm like, that looks so cool. I want to stop there.
Starting point is 01:14:18 Oh, it's so cool. Wait, how did – okay, so what was that for? Just like a show for your show or – Tree lighting. Yeah. That's so cool. It's the tallest tree in the country. Wow. Yeah. And then what was that for? Just like a show for your show? Tree lighting. Yeah. That's so cool. It's the tallest tree in the country. Wow.
Starting point is 01:14:28 Yeah. And then what did you sing? I sang, I did a couple Christmas songs there. I did Santa Claus is Back in Town and Blue Christmas, of course. I love it. And then I did some originals and yeah, it was, I did, yeah, it was so fun. Oh my gosh. So now you're doing this one and then this is your last show of the year?
Starting point is 01:14:44 Last show of the year. and then you start a big Tour next year start the show in Dublin on January 12th. Did you just get back from Ireland? I just did Yeah, two days ago three days ago. How come you're so big over there? I was there. I was there visiting my girlfriend She's there shooting. Oh First time ever performing there we start we start there and then we go on. It's actually the only acoustic show on the tour because I wasn't sure
Starting point is 01:15:10 if anyone was going to come and it's sold out which is great. Small show. And then we go to London for full band rehearsals for three or four days. Acoustic meaning
Starting point is 01:15:18 you're just there by yourself with a guitar? My guitarist is coming but me and him and then my videographer. Wow. Yeah. And then you go to London.
Starting point is 01:15:26 Do rehearsals there, first shows in Amsterdam. And then we just go around Europe. And then I come back here for a week after that tour and start the North American tour in Phoenix. Wow. And then how many cities? Here? Yeah. 25.
Starting point is 01:15:40 Wow. Are you going to go bus? Yeah. That sounds like a lot. When people talk about a bus tour, I'm like, how do you go to the bathroom? Don't you have to stop? It's also not as romantic as you think. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:15:50 It doesn't sound like it. You're in coffin bunks. Do you sleep in the bunks? Isn't there a big room in the back? I would choose to get the lounge. Common area back there. Yeah. That's so nice.
Starting point is 01:16:01 I think if I play a little bigger venues, then maybe I would. Yeah, yeah, yeah. At some point. I come out in my robe. How did everyone sleep? That is kind of awkward. I thought about that too. Cause I think it would be fun, but that's so awkward. Like, bye, have fun in the bunk. Also you are the one paying for the tour. That's true. I guess. Yeah. No, I'm not there yet. I also like the camaraderie of being with everybody until I can't sleep. And then I don't care about camaraderie anymore. Right.
Starting point is 01:16:25 Do you have trouble sleeping on the tour buses? Yeah. Oh, God, yeah. Has to be still. Can't sleep if it's moving. So I'm sitting there until like 4 a.m. until it stops. Oh, interesting. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:16:34 Because usually babies, when they're moving, it helps them sleep. No, this is like... But you're small. You're a petite frame, so you could fit in there. I don't think I could fit into one of those beds. I'm not a petite frame. Yeah. I mean, you're long, but you're narrow. I'm 6 could fit in there i just don't think i could fit into one of those i'm not a petite frame yeah i mean you're long but you're 190 pounds congrats put it on my
Starting point is 01:16:49 baseball card i actually have not weighed myself in like a year or two so i have no idea okay i know it's like i hate when people ask about weight but i know you talk about it a lot and i do such yeah and i am so fascinated because i've never seen you fat but you always talk about losing 100 pounds i'm like where are these pictures at? I did. I lost 100 pounds. It was before I did anything like in music or anything. So it was when I was in high school. High school. So you're playing Sky
Starting point is 01:17:14 in Guys and Dolls as... That one I lost weight for because that was my senior year. So high school musical when you're playing, who was it? Jack Scott? Jack Scott, yeah. Jack Scott, you're... He's a character literally developed to like tell what's happening. I was a school announcer being like, and now the kids are gonna go to, you know.
Starting point is 01:17:29 And you're what, like, so if you also had a problem, you're 290? Yeah, 280, yeah, yeah. How come you never talk about this on social media? You don't want, do you not want it to be known?
Starting point is 01:17:37 No, I think I have before. But no pictures. You know what people do like before and after is like, this was me then, and look at me now. I did that during like 2020 when it was like, you know. The transformation.
Starting point is 01:17:46 Yeah, the transformation trend was going on. I can't find him anywhere. I looked. I Googled. I was like, Spencer Sutherland fat. I'm like, I don't think this is a real story. I was like, I do not see fat pictures. It's okay if you want it scrubbed.
Starting point is 01:17:56 She remembers. Oh, right. Because you guys went to high school together. Was he actually? Because people say they're fat. And you look and you're like, okay, you weren't really fat. Spencer really did transform. But you've always been so talented.
Starting point is 01:18:08 Like you don't think about it. Yeah, you don't see the weight. Yeah, that's nice. Thanks. That's nice. That's nice of you to say. That was really sweet. She said he really did transform, but the talent overrode. You didn't notice it.
Starting point is 01:18:17 I just think I also carried my weight well. I just look like a big football player. Love that. Kind of, you know? Yeah. And I also played sports and stuff. I just also ate the most food you've ever seen. It was crazy.
Starting point is 01:18:29 Yeah, that's one thing I can't do is portion control. I love food. I, it could be like ice. I just need a lot of it. I like, give me a, give me a, you know what I mean? Like ice chips or? It could be like, I just need a lot of food. I love like.
Starting point is 01:18:42 Well, did you have, did you do like, what'd you do then? Like keto where you could just eat like so much bacon and still lose weight? No, I started running. I honestly like probably didn't eat the healthiest. I like ate not a lot of food and I ran in the morning and at night. And I was also 17. So like it melted off easier. Oh yeah.
Starting point is 01:18:57 But I lost 10 pounds for that white Christmas play. And I remember everybody was like, dude, you look awesome. And it just felt good. Yeah. And then I, then over the summer I had lost like 60 pounds, something crazy. And I went back for my senior year. It was the first time I had ever gotten any attention from girls. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 01:19:15 And I was just like – You became addicted. You're like, all right. Sure. I sure did. Interesting. Yeah, I feel like now with the Ozempic – are you sad now that you weren't in the Ozempic era where you could have just like literally –
Starting point is 01:19:24 I'm big mad. Like I could work at this. I love the Ozempic era for everyone. Cause all these people as a fatty, like, you know, as a fatty, you're like so happy to lose some weight, you know, I'm sure they feel so good, but then you're also probably like, damn, where was this around when I was doing this? Yeah. That's why I'm so big mad. I'm like, this could have been so much easier for me. It does sound so easy. I know it's not easy. I know that there's like a lot of like like nausea and stuff that takes place sure yeah yeah yeah but the i think what is it mostly appetite suppressant so you don't feel hungry as much you eat like a bite of something which i'd be like amazing yeah if you would ask me in high school if there was like a magic pill and
Starting point is 01:19:56 you'd be 100 pounds i would have taken it instantly but now that it's out there i don't know i'm very like it's just it's one of those things that, like, who knows what the side effects in the future are, I guess. Because it's so new. My husband does, yeah. So who knows? Yeah. But also, who knows if you're going to die tomorrow? That's very true, too.
Starting point is 01:20:13 You know what I mean? I also eat a lot of fast food, so you could probably die from that, too. I know I really want to. My husband's always just like, oh, I don't know. Like, what if it's going to be, but. What's your favorite fast food? Oh, gosh. Right now it's Wendy's spicy nuggets.
Starting point is 01:20:23 I think Wendy's is my, I always come back to it. Superior. Yeah. It's so good. They have this spicy chicken food? Oh, gosh. Right now it's Wendy's Spicy Nuggets. I think Wendy's is my, I always come back to it. Superior. Yeah. It's so good. This spicy chicken sandwich. Oh, yeah. Oh. Their spicy chicken sandwich is better than Chick-fil-A or any of the other spicy chicken
Starting point is 01:20:33 sandwiches. It is so good. Can you eat any of that anymore? No. No. No. But I do give myself after the tour, I give myself a three-day like, it's like a bender, but with food.
Starting point is 01:20:44 Yeah. I love that. And alcohol probably. I'm just like, I remember I ended a tour and I went to that Laurel Tavern bar. I'm giving them so many shout outs. I better get a free round. Shout out Laurel Tavern. Shout out Laurel Tavern. Your hot shot's in there.
Starting point is 01:20:56 I'm going to send them this link too. I'm going to start making a list. I went after the tour the next day and I had like, I got their jalapeno burger and fries and I ate it. And I was like, I wish I could have another one. I was with my friend. He goes, you just ended an entire national tour. Go get another burger.
Starting point is 01:21:14 I got two more. Wow. Three. And they're like those gourmet burgers. Wait, how do you do it? Because your stomach has shrunk now. And then I got a pizza after and I ate the whole pizza. Which one?
Starting point is 01:21:21 From Laurel Tavern? No, from Crave Cafe. I don't know what I was thinking. Oh, that sounds healthy. It was buffalo chicken, so it probably wasn't. Okay, okay. It was delicious. But how can you eat that much now?
Starting point is 01:21:31 I don't know. Wow. But it happens. So you think it's still there? You still could eat a lot? Oh, yeah. You just have to do the portion control. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:21:38 I just have realized that I feel better when I don't binge. Also, binging is not healthy. Yeah, yeah yeah I was but I'm human like I still do it after I pick my times yeah I think yeah I think that's amazing so wait so that's been what how many years 13 13 13 years yesterday it happened you lost 100 pounds um that's amazing I was on the radio show and I said someone asked how old I was I said 19 and they thought I was like they didn't know I someone asked how old I was, and I said 19. And they thought I was serious.
Starting point is 01:22:07 Like, they didn't know. I don't know if they thought that I looked 18, but they thought, like, I don't want to, in case he's trying to actually lie about his age, like, I don't want to. I will call you out. And I was like, guys, I'm not 19. It's fine. Do you not like talking about your age? I love talking about my age. I don't care.
Starting point is 01:22:19 I'm 32, yeah. You're 32? I'm 32, yeah. I was being serious earlier. Oh, okay. I don't know. Because I'm like, what are you? But I love to joke. I love to joke about love to joke about it i'm so confused because i was like wait are you 23 or 32 also like artists influencers actors are so sensitive about age you know so i think it's just funny to joke
Starting point is 01:22:36 yeah yeah i love talking about it because of that reason because i was so like i thought if i hit 30 i was like i don't even want to be 30 like that's so old and decrepit like i don't want to be that so now i love talking about my age because I'm like yeah I love that actually yeah 36 it's good to be 36 it's a blessing right you're also like it's also it's different now it's not like it used to be like when you turn 30 you can't be a pop star anymore and now it's like I've never first of all I've never felt more like myself but I've never had more success in my life than when I turned this age yeah and it just keeps getting better. No, that's what I always say too. I mean, actually, it's like when I got married,
Starting point is 01:23:07 I had two kids and a husband. And I'm like, honestly, this is like the most successful I've ever been. Like people want to see me on tour. Now nobody cared like five years ago. The Beacon Theater is crazy. Yeah, no one, literally my last tour was 2019 and maybe like shot up to 200 people came, but it was like 200 people.
Starting point is 01:23:18 So I was like, okay. So I was like kind of shook that this one did so well. So yeah, it's like 36 with kids and still thriving. And I think I thought if I had kids, I'd have to like sacrifice career, but kind of like, isn't the case, which is great. Yeah. That's really cool. I also love, I just love the studio. I love your place. I love talking to you. Yeah. I love talking to you too. You're such a good talker. I've noticed that in all your interviews. I was like, wait, he talked. Cause again, on TikTok, you don't talk. You're not like a TikToker who's like, Hey guys, this is my meal today or something like that. You're
Starting point is 01:23:44 just, you just sing really on your TikTok, but your personality is so good. So I'm surprised you've never done like lives where you just like talk to people. I need to do lives more. I get a little, uh, yeah, it's a little like daunting sometimes I think. Why? I just want to make sure I look okay. And sometimes, I don't know. I don't know. Do you think you're like hard on yourself with the way you like look? Do you think you have to present yourself like this? This is your like artist and you should look like this all the time. Yeah. I mean, this is what I slept in last night.
Starting point is 01:24:09 You woke up with the pearls. Do you dress like this all the time? Yes. I don't feel like, I'm not at the gym obviously, but like when I run into people I know at the gym, they're just like, I say hey to them. They're like, oh, I wear like a bandana. Oh really? Like Bret Michaels style?
Starting point is 01:24:22 Yeah. Okay. I love that. So you're still like rocker. You're still like a musician. I got my tattoos looking like a you know. Rock star. A rocker. Yeah. Oh, I didn't wear one, damn it. What?
Starting point is 01:24:33 I have the... Horseshoe? I have the horseshoe. I have the blue 72 ring. Wait, really? Yeah. Oh my gosh. I should have worn it. This is very Elvis with all the rings. Yeah. I mean, everything about me is a little very elvis except not really though not like my hair like necessarily my clothing style most of the time you've never done like a 50s album song style because there's a whole like greaser tiktok community where they like live
Starting point is 01:24:59 in the 50s there's one called i forget i think his name's joey i think he's in like southern california he dresses like elvis every day and he's like ripped and I'm like okay that's cool done no because I've always liked I've always liked having longer hair it's always it's always what I've been into but this would started I feel like Elvis's hair was probably this length right when he quaffed it back yeah I had like that like I do I got that I have little sideburns going on it's also very Bridgerton yeah Yeah. Yeah. It's very cool. But you know, no interest in doing like a 50s. No, I have interest in doing that.
Starting point is 01:25:30 I think I've like definitely done it like just at home for fun. Just for fun. Yeah. Put the collar over the jacket and like the high-waisted trousers. Would you ever pull like a Dita Von Teese where she like just dresses in like jeans and a t-shirt and everyone's like shocked. Everyone's like, well, you wear Abercrombie or something. That'd be really funny actually. for like a halloween day or
Starting point is 01:25:47 something be like as a normal person today yeah i would well and it's funny like sometimes i'll just get coffee and like a t-shirt and oh you do yeah but all my stuff is like kind of stylized now i've realized all my pants are high-waisted so i'm at least like looking casual i love that so if you get paparazzi they're like that's him paparazzi if you get paparazzi, they're like, that's him. Paparazzi. Do you get paparazzi? You probably do in Studio City. Once. Really? But I will say this, this has really, really been cool because I've never had this in my life for the first time ever this year and a little bit of last year. Um, and especially the last couple of months, I've never had so many people like everywhere I go, I think I have someone that comes up and talks about seeing a reel or a Tik TOK. Really? And it Really? And I'm at the phase where it doesn't, like, it happens to you every day, everywhere you go.
Starting point is 01:26:28 No, no, yeah. I'm still like, really? Wait, really? So I'm like, that's awesome. But you are, like, the TikTok boy right now. Like, it's actually crazy how much you're just, like, over everyone's page. Like, I told you before we started, like, every person who asks who's coming on a date, and then I show them, like, oh, my God, that guy's everywhere. Like, it almost seems like you're a plant like an industry plant or something can you can you
Starting point is 01:26:46 clip that and get it to me I'll put that on reels for me I swear I was like wait this person kind of came out of nowhere and all of a sudden leave it in leave all that in you're dating like a superstar you're auditioning for wicked and I'm just like well where did this person come from I was planted by who? Simon Cowell. Wow. Could you imagine? That's who had me come. We never finished this convo, but he, most of our interview.
Starting point is 01:27:12 I know. There was so many places we were going. And then Elvis. Yeah. He sort of was the caliber. He wanted like an American on the show. And one of my managers had worked with him, helped put some boy band together or something back in the day. And yeah, they flew me over and acted like I came over on my own. They do that, huh?
Starting point is 01:27:33 Yeah, I'm sure you saw this in an interview, but I did multiple songs. No, I didn't. No, tell me. I did multiple songs at my initial audition. I just went to them straight away. I didn't have to go to anything before. That's so funny. And I sang two songs, and they were really complimentary, and it was awesome.
Starting point is 01:27:48 And then I sang one more, and they were all of a sudden tough on me. And I was like... Oh. If you even watch, I do a little bit of a... You're like, what just happened? You loved me. And then, of course, that's what they aired. But they want to have that journey of like...
Starting point is 01:28:03 Oh. It's a little TV show, man this what was the song that gave them oh not this let's get it on by marvin gay and i like kind of kill it a little bit that's it's like a little gratuitous with the runs oh i kind of love it there's a lot of runs okay cynthia revo over here just like doing all of it do you remember can you sing a little or no too much in the morning it's another morning i Do you remember it? Can you sing a little or no? Too much in the morning. It's another morning. I don't remember it. Okay. Are you just saying that? Maybe after the camera
Starting point is 01:28:29 stopped rolling. You're shy now? I feel like you're such a singer and everything. Do you have a guitar? I don't. We have a banjo. That helps. I can't play that. So, and what was your good song that they liked? Dueling Banjos.
Starting point is 01:28:47 I sang an original song that never came out. It was just me and electric guitar. And then I sang Earned It by The Weeknd. Oh, wow. Yeah. Go. No, sing. No, I'm not going to sing. Wait, you were about to, and I cut it off.
Starting point is 01:28:56 I was so nervous. I was just doing that to remember if that was the right song, and it was the right song. Oh, my gosh. Wow, that's amazing. I'm so nervous. The reality shows are crazy. Well, it's one for the money. Two for the soap.
Starting point is 01:29:07 They're going to get around and I don't cook. I love. Back to Elvis. Simon Cowell's favorite song is Suspicious Minds. That's his favorite song in the entire world. He's got good taste because that is the best song. You think that's the best Elvis song? Best or favorite because I think it's probably the best.
Starting point is 01:29:22 It was hit number one for a long, long, long time after not being in the industry for 10 years. Once again, back to Elvis. I know. Well, you mentioned Simon Cowell. This episode is just Elvis with Spencer Silver. That's the title, probably. Love for Elvis.
Starting point is 01:29:37 Yeah, I did America's Got Talent. And it was the same thing where they acted like I was auditioning. But they just told me. They flew me to Austin. They're like, come to Austin. That's what I'm saying. Yeah, it's all kind of fake huh it's a reality show that's not real yeah yeah it really yeah I guess yeah but it is so you're the only American on the
Starting point is 01:29:53 UK one yeah and you got pretty far yeah I did I got I got all the way to the top 12 and um and I remember everything sort of changed and shifted. And I don't think the British, because that was all like fan voted stuff. I don't think the British people wanted like an American to win. Yeah. Which I understand. But it was just fun while it lasted. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:30:16 Yeah. Did you like the British like culture that people over there, like when you were there, like you adapted good to it? It took me a minute because it's a little different. Yeah. But it was the first time I was ever out of the country. Wow. Ever.
Starting point is 01:30:29 Wow. And since then, I've been all over the world. It's been so cool. You're traveling the Netherlands, you said? Yeah. Like who's even over there? Poland, Austria, Spain, Italy, Germany, Berlin. Are they very German over there?
Starting point is 01:30:43 Oh, yeah. Yeah. It's like the stereotypical. I just saw, speaking of billoon welcoming i saw cabaret with adam lambert he had he he um we we saw him after too he's he's the best he's been a good champion too of like uh of like do you know him i don't know him oh he's so he's the nicest guy in the world shout out to Adam Lambert and him and Cabaret we'll clip this we'll send it over keep it in oh man did you love it was that your first time seeing Cabaret yes and I love
Starting point is 01:31:12 the like they have like actors before and like walking around one of the actors got out of character he's like oh I like your videos oh okay but still in the German accent yeah but still in the German accent and we thought that was so funny that's so fun oh That's so fun. Oh my gosh.
Starting point is 01:31:26 So cool and it was just the greatest show and I can't picture anybody but Adam Lambert doing that part. Really? Yeah. Who was before him? Eddie something?
Starting point is 01:31:33 Yeah. Yeah, right. He is from that Marilyn movie. He was really good but Alan Cumming did it before him. Yeah, I know that's like the goat. That's like the one.
Starting point is 01:31:40 But Adam Lambert probably crushed it. I haven't seen any clips. I guess you can't film it. His voice is unbelievable. Yeah yeah when I saw him on James Corden with the queen oh you should go see that show while you're there there's so many shows I do want to see it we did get invited maybe there's so many shows I want to see to Kit Kat Club
Starting point is 01:31:53 yeah we only got we invited there's like three other shows I want to see Rachel Zegler I want to see so many Barbie Ferreira's in a Broadway show so there's so many I don't know I would love to see it because I do love Cabaret did you learn any german over there uh in germany i i kind of forget it now but i would always and i'll relearn it when i go back i re i learn how to say like i love you and hello so i can just say it on stage yes yes yes bring it back to elvis farasheva do you know any German Elvis songs?

Starting point is 01:32:35 there's no strings upon this heart of mine it was only you from the start dream me nice dream me good. Dream me like I should. Because I'm not made of wood.
Starting point is 01:32:50 Because I don't have a wooded heart. Clip that. Yay! I mean, that's where it needs to end, because that was so good. You know how deep that is, that we did that? No, this whole interview, I've been trying to get you to sing. I try to get everyone to sing with me and no one does. So when people finally do, I'm like, yes.
Starting point is 01:33:07 Can't you see I love you? Please don't break my heart in two. Yeah, it's so good. No, that was always one of my favorites. It's a puppet show from GI Blues and I just loved it so much as a kid. That's one of my favorites right there, that movie. Him with kids are so good. It happened at the World's Fair.
Starting point is 01:33:23 Everything he does with kids, he was just like a clamp egg when they talk about confidence on the yeah i show it to my daughter and hopes that she'll like sing along and like yeah feel something but when i sing elvis to my elvis she does get very happy so i think there's something in there somewhere yeah but um thank you so much this has been amazing thank you in every way it really has been fun to talk to you and i just i appreciate you bringing me in and i can't wait to have see all your shows everything you do for everyone to see this because and you should come to my la show yeah it's in april it's not for a while but yeah well maybe the jingle ball what is the friday ours is thursday maybe we'll be back for it but the tickets are probably sold out or what you don't have to get a ticket well

Starting point is 01:34:29 Or is she in Ireland? She's coming straight back from Ireland right before Christmas day. Power couple. Power TikToker. Power collaboration. Power TikToker. Shout out Elvis. Shout out Elvis.
Starting point is 01:34:39 And I'm here for this. And we apologize, but we don't apologize. We don't apologize. Because that's who we are. That's what I was most excited to have you here today. I was like, I cannot wait to talk about Elvis because I have no one to talk about it with. Well, and even when we're not on the air, please just, we'll just send voice notes back about, did you know that in 1967?
Starting point is 01:34:55 That's my favorite. I love little facts like that. Finding out stuff about Elvis all the time. I'm like, you know, he couldn't tour outside of the US because of Colonel Tom Parker. He didn't have his papers to travel. And all that stuff's true about him getting offered a million dollars for one gig in Japan. Oh, man. It makes me
Starting point is 01:35:09 so mad. I have so much anger towards him. Well, anyways. Alright. We'll cut it there. You guys check out Spencer Sutherland. The drama is out now. His tour is worldwide. Mr. Worldwide next year. Please come back. And maybe we can du it we'll do it again
