I'm Jemisbeg, host of the Psychology of Your 20s podcast, and this month we're helping you make sense of the person that you are becoming, from setting boundaries and navigating friendships to understanding anxiety, confidence, relationships, and attachment.
Sometimes our biggest decisions, without us even realizing it, aren't driven by what we truly want, but by what will prevent us from feeling lonely or being alone.

Calling all my sweeties to the forefront, I'm your host, Chris Renee Hazlett, and this is the Keep It Posit Sweetie show.
Welcome to Keep It Posit, Sweetie, the place where we heal, grow, and learn together.
Today we are switching things up. I'm usually the one asking the questions, but this time I'll let you all take over.
You asked about faith, growth, Kipps, what I'm becoming.
And of course, y'all got into my business like y'all like to do.
But I love it because this episode is really a chance for me to check in with you all
and share a little more about where I am, what I'm learning, and what I am trusting God for in this season.
So let's get into it.
Show them what they got for me.
You know the sweeties.
Okay.
Oh, Lord.
They want to be in your business.
Yes, ma'am.
My question about your faith, of course.
Just this season of your life.
Of course, the podcast can be positive of sweetie,
especially with us just coming off the live show,
which was amazing.
You know they want to be in your business.
So I'm starting it off.
Okay.
Right out the back.
For the record, one more time.
What is your relationship status?
I am single.
She is single, y'all.
Yeah.
She wasn't for God to drop them right now.
Huh?
I said you weren't for God to drop them right now.
Yeah.
I'm actually waiting for God to,
who was that he had to put to sleep
Adam put me to sleep
when I wake up he'll be walking to him like that's
that's who
that's my king
that's my king
give me a draw
give me my clips yes
give me my clips
yes put me to sleep Lord
I got that that's out the way
yes single
yes okay that is yes so
now one sweetie
Nick Marie 20
She gave you a sentence to finish
And I thought it was perfect place to start
The Woman I'm Becoming
The Woman I Am Becoming
Is
Anchored
I feel like for so long
I was kind of like
In this floating
space where I just
Was kind of going with the flow
And just allowing
You're just not really forcing anything
But I feel like right now
I'm anchored in one
in God and what he has for me and becoming more discerning for what that is as he continues
to refine me.
I love that.
So as we talk about becoming this anchored, better woman, what are some qualities you are
intentionally trying to strengthen in yourself right now?
Oh, qualities that I am continually trying to strengthen in myself would be while practicing
discernment, I'm also trying to be more open.
You know, we talk about, are you single?
That comes of being more open to receiving.
A lot of times we can be so closed off and guarded
because of what may have happened or where we are in our lives
that we miss out on things because we're not open, you know?
So practicing the sermon but also continue to be open for whatever he has for me.
How do you do that?
Honestly, I'm practicing going out more.
Okay.
You know, just getting out of the house.
Boaz is not going to find me at home.
He is going to.
You know, even though they want a woman that's at home, I got to get out the house.
Got to catch you outside first.
And then we're going to bring you home.
We're going to buy you the house and bring you home and make you stay there.
Amen.
And in that order.
Okay, so that's good.
That's good.
Because I think that sometimes people hear that and it's like how do you become more open,
especially if you dealt with, whatever you've dealt with that, put that guard up.
How do you begin to break that down?
I think we've kind of talked to that with some of our guests, too, over this past season.
Yeah.
I also like, I think the space I'm in now, I'm very clear with whoever I date where I am with God and where I stand.
I'm still standing firm and strong in my abstinence journey.
So I think that alone weeds out.
I'm going to say it does what it needs to do.
It does what it needs to do on it.
And I'm so grateful for that because anybody who knows, he knows that I, like, wake up.
I'm in my word.
I have to center myself before I walk out.
I'm dealing with so much, you know.
And I feel like any strong leader needs to do that daily, you know, so they can go out
and be the best leader that they can be entrepreneurs as well, anybody.
But I'm speaking from, like, my lane.
I feel like everybody should start their day like that.
But I had gotten some feedback from this guy dated from one of his friends.
He was like, yeah, I just heard that you like, it wasn't no, like, bad blood.
But I heard that, like, you were like, like, really.
really into God and, like, religion and all this stuff.
And I was, like, great.
Yeah.
I just saw a real where it's, like, POV,
when somebody said, you talk about God too much,
and it was, bah, bye-bye, blah, blah,
but-bye, but-bye, but-bye, but-ba-pa-pah,
you know, it's like, I get that.
You know, like, when you're not in that space,
I've been there before.
It can be intimidating.
It can be intimidating.
It can get on your nerves.
It can be aggravating.
When you're not in that space, you're in the space.
It's just living your life.
Yeah, they don't like.
And it'll irritate you.
I've been there.
I have been on the receiving end of that irritation.
So I just, it makes me even more clear and conscious of like, you're not my person, you know,
because the right person I can sit and talk about God.
I can talk about sports.
I can talk about what I've been going through.
I can talk about everything.
But most of my aligned relationships, God is going to come up at some point, you know.
But if you're not in alignment and even understanding that everything you have is because of God,
every gift that you have is because of him,
then you are, if you haven't close to the relationship,
you won't understand where I'm coming from
or why I take it so serious, you know.
Or even for those, because he might be working on it.
So I still feel like even if your guy was like maybe not.
Let's talk about working on it.
Yeah, because I feel like maybe your guy is not there,
but he wouldn't be irritated.
He would be like, okay, I might work up at 545,
the assing what the word is and throw back up.
You know, like you'll see some of the light versus,
is because I think that some people can be like, well, I'm just not there in my walk.
I can't approach her.
And it's like, it's not really about that.
You may be in your walk.
God may be working on you slowly but surely, but you just won't be irritated by the fact that I am getting up and getting myself sitting there and doing what I do.
Or challenging you.
Yeah.
You know, I think a lot of times I'm okay with, because I've been there.
Yeah.
And I don't think I have to find somebody that is where I am.
Right.
You know, I think sometimes that's impossible because maybe God has somebody where I'm not where he is.
Exactly.
where I got a level up, you know?
And, you know, and I think that when it comes to faith in the walk, you can't judge where
people are.
You got to look at the heart and look at how much they're trying, you know.
And if I don't see the effort of even opening the Bible or even not even calling me,
asking what it was about.
You get on YouTube for everything else.
Get online and watch it.
You know what I'm saying?
I want to see effort over just like, oh, yeah, so how was it?
What do they talk about?
You know, like I would prefer to.
see that than just asking me.
Or I would prefer to see, hey, I got this morning.
I see how he's working in your life.
I'm a try for myself.
And I opened up my Bible this morning.
That is more return on to me than anything, you know?
So, yeah.
Okay.
But you talk about, like, not being where I am.
I never look for somebody to be exactly where I am all across the board.
Right.
I'm not looking at that.
I'm looking at your heart.
I'm looking at your character.
I'm looking at the effort that you put in.
For sure.
And if you're not putting that in wellness,
if you're not putting that in your faith and spirituality,
if you're not putting that in your business and into yourself,
what we doing?
What is this?
What is this?
What is this?
That's my favorite line.
That's her favorite line.
What is this?
What is this?
And it drives me crazy because I'm such a go-getter.
Yeah.
So when I don't see that, I'm just like, yeah, it's not for me.
Scram.
Scat rat.
As Nina would say.
That was real good.
See, I got y'all some tea now.
You got the tea, honey.
You got the tea, honey.
I don't want to ask us no more.
Now, just call me underscore Alley as what do you appreciate most about the community that
Sweeties have created?
Because a part of becoming is being appreciative of what's growing with you.
So let's talk about this community of the Sweeties and what they have created.
Yes.
When I look at what we have built, I'm one grateful.
I am honored to be the leader of these women from so many different areas, many different
backgrounds and to see how we can all come together.
Like we just talked about, we had the live show recently.
And just for everyone to be in the same room and feel the frequency, the energy is unmatched.
You know, but to get the testimonies of how their lives have been changed to see how they
write in about each other when we did our sweetie to sweetie moment, to see how they write in
about each other and sing each other's praises, you know, those are our components of what I feel
it takes to build a strong community, which we're doing.
I love that.
So we talked about that, the sweetie, the sweetie moment,
and we had the four representatives that represented what that sweetie is.
So let's talk more about that.
What do you want being a sweetie to represent,
not just in how people support you,
but in how they carry themselves and treat one another.
What does that look like?
Yeah, you know, it's very important to me
because what are we doing if people aren't getting it?
You know, I think it's the same thing with going to church.
Like, you go to church,
and if there's no evidence in change and growth,
then you're just going just to go.
So the same thing, I look at it, being a part of this community,
if this community isn't changing you to be better,
to grow, to strengthen your faith,
if it's not pushing you to be more kind to the next person,
I've heard things, you know, I hear things and I see things,
and I'm just like, some people don't,
they haven't quite caught on to where we're going.
And I think that every,
Every next step of elevation requires you to shed and let go of something that you used to do.
It requires growth.
And for me, my hope is that they see the evolution of me from whether it's the way I dress.
They call me First Lady now.
And I'm very mindful of my witness.
And there's certain things I can't do.
I can't say.
There's certain music I can't listen to because I know what, you got to know yourself.
You know, if I know certain songs going to evoke a.
a little
hand.
Extra really.
Might not need to play that, you know.
But for me, I do
hope that as I continue to elevate,
they can see that and also
mirror that and know that we're
women, you know, and who
want to be wise
one day and what does it take to be that,
you know, and how do we need to care ourselves
as business women? How do we want,
if we want to be successful, these are things we have to do.
And I hope that
the tools that I'm giving and sharing,
through the podcast and the stories that we're bringing forth every week are resonating with
them so that they can continue to be better women.
I love that.
I love that because that was basically what I was asking because basically we're setting the standard
for it our sweetie is and some things we have to retire in our old lives and our old seasons
just as you refine yourself.
So I definitely see it in you and I'm looking forward to seeing how our sweeties come
along with this evolution that we're having.
I feel it in myself.
I see it all around us.
So it's really good to see.
But I know that that was something that all the sweeties want to know because everyone is like,
want to be like Crystal.
It's like, no, let's follow who Crystal is following, which is the Lord.
Yeah.
So you can find out who you're supposed to be.
Listen.
Yeah.
I'm just a vessel and a leading example that God has deemed responsible for this time.
I was born for such a time as this is one of my favorite Bible verses and understanding that
there is a responsibility that I have, but to not want to be like me.
Yeah.
You know, but to want to be inspired by me, to be encouraged by me, but to know that I'm looking to God for what he wants me to be, which is why you see this light.
Brenda talked about that.
The light that you see isn't me.
It's him.
So that I'm hoping that what you see is me connecting with God every single day so that I can be what I'm supposed to be so that you can be what you're supposed to be because we all carry that same light.
We just have to figure out exactly why we're here and what our time is here.
I love that.
Behind every night spent making the kids' lunches, there's a lot of suspense.

Will the pastos survive the first bite?

Hey, everyone. It's the Jonas Brothers with the Hey Jonas Podcast.
We've been catching up with some great friends, Paul Rudd, Michael Bublay, Seth Myers, Nile Horan, Jake Shane,
and making some new friends while getting into what's really like to have sisters, like Alex and Ashton Earl.
She likes to control everyone and tell everyone.
Okay, well, control is a harsh word. I would say that's a harsh word.
I am more outspoken.
Growing up a lot of the times because she was so quiet.
I would speak for like the both of us.
Now I'm working on, like, thinking a moment, reeling it in it,
and thinking before I speak.
And Joey King.
You know if your, like, mom is yelling at your sibling,
and even if you're annoyed with your sibling,
you just, like, won't let that slide.
It's like, only you can yell at your sibling.
I'm like, you can't do that here.
That is, you want to talk about her like that.
Only I talk about her like that.
Plus, we've been taking your calls,
listening to your voicemails and giving advice.
Or at least trying to.
So if you've got catching up to do,
now's the perfect time.

What I try to do is faux journal.
I don't know.
Have you guys heard of faux journaling?
Yeah, it's reading.
It's called reading.
So we don't like to use that word anymore.
Okay.
A panel of New Yorker cartoonists.
Have you guys done Terry Gross's Peloton class?
No!
I've been dying too.
I'm so sorry.
I'm seeing a reading of Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes by Audra McDonald's at the Wonderland Bookstore on 14.
That's crazy.
I went to the Wonderland Bookstore yesterday, and I heard Nora Jones do a reading of Zero Dark 30.
No way.
You have to come to the last bookstore, though.
Kim Cottrell is reading the good.

Baby, she got two Bs, two eyes, underscore Bree with two eyes.
I love this because it kind of keeps going into this becoming.
You've accomplished so much already, but what's one dream or goal that still excites you
because you know there's more ahead as you talked about that.
Oh, man, there's a few things.
I still, I own a women's soccer team.
A big dream of mine is to also own a WMBA team or an NBA team.
I love basketball.
That's my favorite story.
Yeah.
Basketball is my favorite sport.
I love the way to drip a little down the court.
I like the picking girl.
I like the picking world.
Was that Bow Wow?
I was singing the Bow Wow version.
Did I just go to like.
I think you went to the one.
No.
Because I'm like, ah.
Sorry, serious.
You're like, oh, you just took it back now.
Like, I don't know that verse.
Right.
That's so funny.
But yeah, I, they're playing basketball.
But yeah, I want to own a team.
but something else that has been near and dear to my heart.
And I feel like it's going to happen because this is something that I saw happening
when I was maybe in high school and college,
and that is owning a facility that's like an after school program, basketball gym.
I love tennis now, so hopefully it's something where we can introduce,
like have a tennis court and introduce tennis to the community.
And there's actually this plot of language.
that's next to my church back home.
And they've never built anything on it.
And I've...
They're saving it for you.
No, I really feel like God is like,
this peace of land is for you.
And when it's time,
you're going to know what to do with it
because I've already told you what to do.
So I am...
That's something that has been a dream
that as I become,
that I really want to do.
Yeah.
So you...
It goes into your faith walk
and how you just have faith
and you have patience
and you are okay.
with waiting per se.
Sometimes.
Well, sometimes, yes.
You'll wait, but then it's like, are we working?
You'll wait as long as you, as long as the work is being in.
Because what?
Faith without works is dead.
Amen.
So, our sweetie love underscore Nisha 94 asks,
what has been your biggest wake-up call during your faith walk?
My biggest wake-up call.
Biggest wake-up call with my faith walk
would have to be the moments where I struggle,
or a backslide on things that I've really been doing good on,
how it irritates my soul now,
where it used to be like, I've got it as my heart.
Like, I'm going to fall.
Like, he knows, like, I'm not perfect.
I used to give myself excuses as to why I would do certain things
or scratch certain itches, right?
I think a big wake-up call that I've had lately
is that when I feel that coming
or when I do, like, fall into temptation
where I actually feel irritated.
I'm like, okay, God, you're really, like, it really like,
yeah, keeps me up at night now.
You know, so I think that was like the wake-up call for me
is where he even literally wake-up call
in the middle of night.
It's like a real wake-up call where it's like, I need you.
Yeah, let's lock in.
I need you lock in while it's quiet,
why your phone's not ringing.
So I think that's one of the main things.
I think people think that the walk is so simple
and that once you turn away from something,
that that's it, you know, but you really have to, like, work on that every single day, you know,
and I like to be transparent about that because it's something that we don't often talk about
and people feel like they're alone and that they failed when they feel like they're the only person
who was, like, made a mistake.
So, yeah.
We're not talking about sex.
I was going to say, so that was what I was going to be a firm.
Yeah, no, I'm talking about sex.
Yeah, you, you healed me.
He did.
And, like, I had to pray one day.
I was like, Lord, because you know, like, as a woman, like, around a certain time of
a month, you, like, just naturally are like, oh, my gosh, I need it.
You know, and I'm, but when I'm with somebody, I don't feel that.
Like, I'm attracted in different ways than I used to be.
He's fixing you, queen.
He is.
And I had to, like, I was like, Lord, now, when I do find my prayer, I need you to make sure.
I'm going to be right, right.
That thing is, hey now, I need to feel that again, you know.
But I want to feel it the way you intended for me to feel it, Lord.
And that's such a blessing that he's taking that temptation.
As crazy as you can feel, that is a real blessing.
Because that was one of, as you've spoken about in the past,
that was one of the harder things that you thought was going to be something
that you really never got grassed us.
So it's amazing to be on the other side of things.
And I think it's good for people to see that you are on the other side of something.
December will be two years.
That's crazy.
That's amazing.
it's not crazy it's amazing sorry for me that's crazy but it's amazing and I think also
you're pride in it and not being embarrassed to say it or not shying away from it like really
showing it doing it and still giving very much sexy sis because you give sexy baddie so it's not
like you you ain't lost it I don't think it's lost it's lost it's in there trust me
it's in there thank you so I love that thank you so
Another thing that I thought was really good,
they always said that this is called Keep it Positive Sweetie.
And you kind of just said that.
It doesn't mean pretending everything is perfect.
Who is that juju wanted to know how do you stay positive
when life doesn't go as planned?
Ooh, there are moments where I have a human reaction
when certain things don't go as planned.
You know, my favorite line is what is this?
Yeah, what is this?
What is this? And why is not right?
Yeah, because it's not right.
but I have learned that after you ask the question,
what is this or why, whatever the case may be,
allow yourself to feel that human reaction,
but don't stay in it.
So for me, when things don't go the way I want,
if it's out of my control, God, you know,
saying, that will be done, whatever the case may be.
But if I can see, I'm a very solution-based person,
so I immediately go into, okay, all right, let's fix it.
Like, what can we do, right?
But sometimes even when you realize you're still hitting a wall in the fixing, that's when you got to step back.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So I think just allowing yourself, it's not always going to be like, okay, well, that didn't go the way we wanted.
No, sometimes you're going to be furious about why it didn't go.
And then you've got to settle in that and be like, all right, is it something I can fix?
And if it's not got, you got something better.
I'm not going to force this.
Let's just move on, you know.
So I think that's kind of how I handle it now.
And you're also good at the next time and like giving yourself grace that it was messed up this time.
We can't go backwards.
But moving forward, what are we identifying in the space that messed up that next time?
Okay, now.
We didn't learn a lesson.
I'm going to be real mad for real.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Because we, you know, we learn.
It's a learning.
That's real.
So I think that you do very well at allowing the space for everyone to learn and grow as we're doing it together.
And some of these things are for the first time.
So naturally it's going to happen.
but also being able to feel those emotions like you said.
I think you do great at that.
So let's jump into a little bit more of the love and boundaries
because we definitely talked about it.
I love that you shared that.
But a little bit more personal question that someone had underscore dot Tima, Tima 898.
She said, how do you know when to let someone back into your life?
And I think that applies to like romance, friendship, and family, any relationship.
but I think you can kind of speak on what you have if you're not doing it no more,
what that looks like and your recommendation for a little sweetie right here.
Yes, okay, a little sweetie.
Okay, there's so many different levels to this.
But I think you can answer the question no matter what type of relationship it is,
whether it's a friendship, romantic, whatever the case may be.
I think that the main thing is to see if there has been a change in patterns, a changing character.
You know, if this person, we're all flawed.
You know, we've all had seasons where we were not our best selves.
I don't think there's anybody who can't look back and be like, yeah, I really wasn't my best right there.
You know, so I think it takes one giving grace.
It takes self-reflection to understand, yep, I haven't been the best friend or the best partner in every scenario.
But I think when it comes to letting people back in, doing real evaluations of has this person changed their character, are they still doing, do they still have the same energy they had where I left them?
Are they still stuck in the same place that I left them?
Have they grown spiritually, mentally, emotionally,
all the different things that may have caused you
to take a step back from them in the first place?
If you don't see a real change,
you're only setting yourself up for more heartbreak,
for more disappointment.
And I think you have to use your discernment and wisdom
from the lesson that you learned before
to see if this person has truly changed.
Have I let people back in?
Yes, I have.
And sometimes it's not exactly the same as it was.
But something that we're learning right now in relationshipology with Pastor Darius Daniels is that every friendship doesn't require a conversation if it's not working.
But also sometimes you have to know what category people fall into.
So understanding where people fall in your life.
And that also helps protect you in your feelings.
So I've definitely brought people back into my life romantically, platonically, whatever the case may be.
And nine times out of ten, I will be honest,
the romantic relationships that I spun the block on didn't work.
Yeah.
You know, so a lot of times they say when a person shows you who they are, believe them.
And I have a heart of grace for people to try to see, okay, like, you maybe change, you know,
and I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt to show me.
And as soon as I see them, I'm like, all right, this is my stuff, y'all.
We tried.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I think that's good.
I think naturally you always want to, like you said,
give someone the benefit of doubt because on the other side,
if someone then you give you the benefit of the doubt,
you were having a bad day or you did something and you know for a fact you changed,
then you want that opportunity.
But sometimes it's like, no, you have to go try that on your next stop.
Take what you learned.
It's like, get it going, you know.
So, yeah, that is so funny.
So I hope that that was good advice.
It's like really, basically she's saying.
Keep it moving on doing it.
Keep it moving, sweetie.
I think Todd said that.
Keep it moving, sweetie.
Yeah, she did.
So let's get more into the podcast.
This podcast, I love it, of course.
I might have a little bias, but I love it.
And underscore Bree wanted some advice on starting the podcast,
which just made me think about your own journey as a host.
But what would be some advice for someone that may not have, you know,
the resources or all?
the tools but you started out the bando yeah so give some advice for people that may just be joining now
and see this big production maybe haven't made their way all the way back to season one what's
some advice for them on starting their own podcast um number one identify your why why do you want to
start a podcast is this something that you want to do because you feel like it's lucrative is this
something you want to do because you feel like you have a voice uh just identify the why before you
pick up a phone or anything. Once you've identified the Y, I would say start where you are. You
don't have to have all the best equipment and the most expensive equipment. Your phones are amazing.
Use your phone. You can get a tripod, you know, and set that thing up and use your iPad for
another one. There's different ways around it. But I would say use what you have first before
you start to invest in a bunch of equipment. Unless you have the disposable income,
to go out and buy.
I had a budget of things I wanted to.
I was able to buy the lights, you know.
That was because I had already built a nest egg for what I wanted to do, you know.
And say that made sense.
A business plan, basically.
Because it is a business, you know, but then also understanding the responsibility
when you open your mouth, you know, because what we say it lands on people.
They listen to it.
It's like anything else that you're taking in.
Yes, and it's out there forever.
So I would say, understand what you're signing up for because it looks all fun and games.
It's a lot of work.
You know, it's a lot of work.
It's a lot of work.
Right now, today we're filming four episodes.
This is the third one of the day and learning how to have a conversation with somebody and listen to them.
But then actually remember the question that you want to ask them to follow up if they're still talking.
And then, oh, you said something about this.
You have to learn how to actively listen.
And, you know, there's things that even me listening back when I first started,
how many times I said, um, I used to hate listening to myself talk.
I'm talking about, uh, so bad.
I'm like, can you please edit the ums out?
It was, erking my soul.
I had to pick up reading again.
It's helped me so much with my speaking and how to articulate and think of words.
I was reading them.
I know that word.
I know that word.
But if you don't use it, you lose it.
So I think just making sure that you're prepared to be your best self,
prepared to understand the responsibility,
but not feel like you've got to have it all together.
If you know your why, start there.
Absolutely.
So you spoke about just being more poised, I would say, or, you know, eloquent.
But what other things has hosted in this podcast,
Keep a Positive, Sweetie, changed you as a woman?
And more personally,
just professionally but personally what you said yeah this podcast has one taught me how to really listen
and actually take in what people are saying hear them understand how you can be a better service
to that person i think so often in conversations we're just listening to respond not listening
to actually hear the heart of a person i think this podcast has allowed me to see the heart of so many
people that sit right here with us every day uh and to understand we're all fighting
our own battles. When I go home, if I'm not exhausted from using my brain all day, I sit and
think about some of the conversations that we've had throughout the day and how certain stories
set with me. And from those conversations, I've built friendships, you know, of people who I may
not have even known before they walked in here. And it's definitely helped me have a better
grace for people. Absolutely. Okay, that was good.
Behind every night spent making the kids' lunches, there's a lot of suspense.
Will they finally eat the veggies?
Will the pastos survive the first bite?
Will the lunchbox come home empty, half full, or come home at all?
And will you finish episode 8 before you're done slicing the cucumbers?

and making some new friends while getting into what's really like to have sisters, like Alex and Ashton Earl.
She likes to control everyone and tell everyone what to do it.
Okay, well, control is a harsh word.
I would say that's a harsh word.
I am more outspoken.
Growing up a lot of the times because she was so quiet.
I would speak for like the both of us.
Now I'm working on like thinking a moment, reeling it in,
Not controlling him before I speak.
And Joey King.
You know if your like mom is yelling at your sibling?
And even if you're annoyed with your sibling,
you just like won't let that slide.
It's like only you can yell at your sibling.
I'm like, you can't do that here.
That is.
You do not talk about her like that.
Only I talk about her like that.
Plus, we've been taking your calls,
listening to your voicemails and giving you advice.
Or at least trying to.
So if you've got catching up to do,
now is the perfect time.

When I was 14 years old, I was kidnapped and held captive for nine months.
I survived, and I've spent my life exploring how other people survive what should have destroyed them.
I'm Elizabeth Smart, and these are the Survivor Files.
I just remember this low, taunting voice next to my ear saying, shut up, don't say anything.
Every week, I'm with survivors who live through the unthinkable.
I knew if he woke up, without a doubt, he was going to hurt me.
I started feeling that there was someone at the end of my bed, and I just started screaming.
They are abducted, stalked, controlled, and nearly silenced.
But these aren't stories about what's taken from them.
There's stories about what it takes to make it out alive.

What I try to do is faux journal.
I don't know.
Have you guys heard of faux journaling?
Yeah, it's reading.
It's called reading.
So we don't like to use that word anymore.
Okay.
A panel of New Yorker Carlin.
cartoonists. Have you guys done Terry Gross's Peloton class? No! I've been dying too. I'm so sorry. I'm seeing a reading of
Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes by Audra McDonald's at the Wonderland Bookstore on 14th.
That's crazy. I went to the Wonderland Bookstore yesterday and I heard Nora Jones do a reading of Zero Dark 30.
No way. You have to come to the last bookstore though. Kim Cottrell is reading the guitar tabs of
yesterday. A panel of Eurovision participants. And we do a little.
until Halloween sometimes.

We're going to do some sweetie quick hits.
All right.
Let's do it.
I kind of got a little deep there.
So bring me up.
These are a lot of what the sweeties want to know.
When are we getting music and are the sweeties getting a dedication song?
They need an anthem.
This is for my sweeties.
Yeah.
Keep it positive in these streets.
They're going to have that cut.
I know.
With a beat underneath it.
They're going to have it for sure.
And I'm sending a cease and desist.
Because we can do that.
Because you do not on the rights of this music.
Just be clear.
Okay.
Music, let me tell you something.
The performance, it was like, it was amazing, but it was like a tease.
It was a TV.
It was a team.
It was giving an album coming.
Yeah.
Oh.
Yeah.
Well, the plan was to work on music.
Yeah.
I'm not really sure what God is doing up there because the world is like, it's like he got to,
you know, you take the basketball and you're spending it.
No, you, yeah.
It's like he over there up.
Yeah, you're going crazy.
Like the time is flying too fast.
There's not enough hours.
in the 24 hours.
I swear we're skipping some.
It's got to be down to 18 hours a day.
No, we definitely.
Y'all feel me?
Time is different.
No, for sure.
Yeah, it's not the same.
So I had sought out to get in the studio,
take some time to just focus on the music
because you have to literally take time just to do that.
You can't just go do three days here and then get busy a few months.
How we filmed this, like when we block street.
I can't do that music.
I have to lock in.
And I have not been able to lock in because of the scheduling.
the amazing opportunities are coming.
I'm finally getting offers on movies
and it's like, well, this is coming out next year.
And this is, they want you to come here and do this
where people are actually calling,
like, hey, we have a role that you would be perfect for.
And it's a blessing, but that also takes,
we talk about knowing what season certain things are for.
And I feel like in this season, God is showing me
that I want you to focus on the podcast,
a philanthropy, and you're acting.
And traveling, taking time for myself.
like to balance because I feel like it's so easy to get caught in chasing after everything
that is being thrown at you or catching every single ball.
I went to this dinner or it's like a cocktail event for a ballmine and it was a women's power
panel and she said when you have a lot of balls being thrown at you, some are going to be
rubber and some of the glass.
Make sure you hold them to the glass ones.
You saw that?
Yes.
Yes.
Yes.
Yes.
So I think that is something that I've taken with me.
as a lot of balls are coming.
Yes.
But like which ones are the ones I need to hold.
Yeah.
Be careful with.
So right now it's the podcast, it's the philanthropy and the acting.
And as other things come, we'll weigh it.
Yep.
And see which holds the most weight and speaks to where we are right now.
I love that.
I love that.
So what is something you completely know now that you wish you knew five years ago?
Oh, five years ago.
Five years ago.
I wish I had a better handle on my finances five years ago.
Where I am now, I understand it's so much better.
I have so much more restraint.
And I'm the type of person as much as I want things.
I know I had to work hard, you know, and to be able to get what I want.
And I also want to say, hey, I don't need anything else.
You're fine.
Like when we did the live show, I literally told myself, you're not going shopping.
You're going to go in your closet.
and you're going to pull things out of your closet.
And you did amazing.
Thank you.
You looked brand-nish.
I did great, sweetie.
You did great, sweetie.
You looked brand-new.
Thank you.
Yes, and that was things that had been sitting in my closet,
things I'd already worn,
remixed it, and understanding that,
because I think we get caught in,
and I heard somebody say, yeah,
I don't wear stuff after I'm taking a picture in it.
And I used to think like that,
but we spend money.
We work hard for our clothes and our things,
whatever it is, you know,
you're going to see it as many times I want you to see it.
And I don't care, you know.
So I think that even just understanding that you don't have to fall into the societal norms of whether it's fashion or material things, find what makes you happy.
Because there is a such thing as new money and how it burns a hole in your pocket.
So I think, which is another big reason why financial literacy is so important with the foundation because you get it and then you don't know what to do with it, how to make.
it last and how to build generational wealth from it.
So that's something I wish I knew five years ago.
That like once I started really making money, I was like, oh, I got to do what?
He taking how much?
Yes.
Oh, so I need to set this so that I can, it's so many strategies that I didn't know and things
that every, as you continue to grow, you get exposed.
Oh, you can do this too.
You know you can write that off.
I'm like, oh, no, I didn't know that.
So even like putting yourself in the right rooms around the right people who are smarter
than you so that you can make better decisions.
It's something I wish I had to done earlier.
And not to mention you're a clock, you have pieces.
Like you have.
And that's another thing.
I used to buy like logo, logo, logo, logo.
I stopped doing that because if I'm going to spend the money on it, I need it to be
timeless now.
Right.
I need to be able to pick it up 10 years or now and be like, oh yeah, I could rock that
because it's not dated by a- With the logo or the style or the, yeah.
Like all the trendy stuff I can't do anymore.
If it's something trendy, I have a price point that I won't.
go over.
Smart.
You're just so smart.
You got to be smart.
You know, you look great at the live show.
It was getting brand new.
Thank you.
Some of those,
that's the problem.
Some of it was brand new.
Which is good though.
Also, that could have been fun too, like creatively, like going in your closet.
Like, let's see what we can pull it together because you had looks too.
You changed.
Thank you.
Yes.
A few times.
Yes.
Yeah.
God is good.
Yes, yes, he is.
All the time.
Okay.
So closing out, you know, our.
I'm right.
Gosh,
she's just so much fun.
I don't know.
I see what she does.
And I know they're probably like,
see, yeah, it didn't be longer.
It didn't longer.
No, I'm being kidding.
I'm sorry, y'all.
I guess we're closing out.
As she said,
three shows so far.
Yes, one more to go.
Yes.
Every season we've chosen one word is purpose.
Yes.
After everything we've talked about today,
what feels most purposeful
about your life right now?
That is a great question, Shelley.
most purposeful
right now
would have to be the podcast
I think because that's what's
the freshest after doing the live show
and hearing
the women say how it's changed our lives
and the lives that we've saved
like you had to pray
over somebody
you know but like the way God is using us
in those moments is so beautiful
and I think that has been
the one thing that's showing me like
this is part of your
purpose. For sure.
Absolutely.
You guys.
Thanks y'all.
For sure.
Yeah.
That was good.
Thank you, She said the podcast is her best while we locked in.
We locked in.
She said the podcast is going good, y'all.
Yeah, yeah, y'all are.
No, seriously.
Thank you.
Both of you.
Shelly, these episodes have been amazing.
The way you produced them, the way you produced a live show.
Yeah, I got a call about how amazing it was.
Yeah, but that was from.
from your fresh ideas, things that you added to kind of what we were already doing.
It definitely brought a fresh perspective to it.
So thank you.
It was good to experience the sweeties.
I had never been in the field.
It was good to experience.
And it's just good to be around.
I was like, wait, I'm fake.
Yes, honey.
Yes.
But it was really good just to know that your impact and what, you know,
sometimes like you don't want people to meet their heroes or people that they really
are into or enjoy
and I think that they
one are pleasantly surprised
is by your aura and things
but I know and I can be a best of it
be like that girl is who she said she is
and even more like
that means so much
I love to see it
people ask Herman all the time
is she really like she really like
who she is
like no that's really like her
yeah like she really is like I wish I could
no I don't wish I could but I know
some people are like she not like that
she's like that home girl
the anointed holy home girl
a fly home girl we love her so no it was really good just to see you get your flowers and how we
really feel about you like people feel that way yeah and see it and see it from a different lens
like the podcast the team of sisters like the people love you yeah yeah so yeah i appreciate
it shout out to the sweeties no thank you and i'm i'm just grateful and appreciative that um
god chose me you know like he can choose anybody and he can it can change at any point so
I'm grateful for in this moment that I'm someone they look up to.
Yep.
Yeah.
Oh, good.
Yes.
Thank you guys.
Yes, that's good.
