Hello and welcome to another bonus episode of Kill James Bond.
I am November Kelly.
I am joined, as always, by my friends Abigail Thorn and Devon.
Hello.
Galbonga.
And instead of a movie, it is the return of the much-awaited series, Q&A.
We invented it.
Some people think it was Socrates.
It was us.
We will answer your questions.
And you have them.
You have asked us questions.
Listen, come over here and draw these triangles in the dirt.
We've invented this.
Thank you to everyone on the Patreon in the comments who has asked a question.
All of them are fantastic.
Yes.
And we are going to answer a little selection.
All of them are wonderful.
But only like 20 were going to be on the podcast, Kill James Bond.
And if you didn't get your question asked, I can only tell you, heads up, make a better question next time, and maybe you'll get picked.
Yeah.
I'm going to open us up with what I take to be a sort of a traditional opener at this point, just to let us.
talk about what we've been up to recently.
So, girls, what have we been reading?
What have we been listening to?
What have we been watching since we last had one of these?
Which, as a reminder, was April of this year that we lost.
God, was it really?
Mm-hmm.
I can definitely start us up with a good book recommendation because I have it behind me.
She just left the room.
It's not that awful, actually.
She's gone up.
She's gone.
I can start us up with a book recommendation.
I have been reading Jessica Valenti's book, Abortion,
which is fucking astonishing.
I'm going to be talking about it on the next episode of Philosophy Tube,
the first one in season four.
And fingers crossed,
I'm going to be interviewing the woman herself who wrote it.
Listeners, it's about abortion rights in the US,
which are currently in crisis,
but also it's about the fact that if you want to stop people getting abortions,
you also have to put them under surveillance.
You also have to stop them traveling.
You also have to restrict what they can say,
what they can post online.
And it's about how abortion is good,
a society that allows women to have abortion,
necessarily allows us to have other freedoms as well.
And the attempt to get rid of abortion
erodes the freedom of everybody.
It's a fucking astonishing book,
Abortion by Jessica Lentie. Check it out.
I've also been reading Absolute Wonder Woman,
still reading that.
And my friend, my friend John wrote a comic called Wiper,
which is a kind of neo-noir,
sci-fi futuristic thing about a detective
who gets her mind wiped after every case,
which is really fun.
That's pretty good.
Other than that,
I have been in the Philosophy Tube Dimension
because I just finished
filming eight episodes of the show in five days.
Yeah, fuck.
I was going to give you an edit on this.
You've been busy this week, Mr.
and that's why we actually couldn't do a normal episode.
Yeah, yeah.
I've been up at half five every day
to get in the makeup chair and film.
Yeah, we filmed eight episodes.
And the machine that I'm going to edit them on arrives tomorrow.
I'm hiring a new thumbnail artist.
Because, well, I'm trying to hire a new thumbnail artist
because there's a certain YouTuber
who's not doing YouTube anymore.
and he had a very talented thumbnail artist
and not a thumbnail artist is now currently out of work.
So I'm like, hey, why don't come and make thumbnails for me instead?
So that's nice.
But yeah, I've been incredibly busy,
but the footage looks fucking amazing.
I've seen some great outfits.
I've seen some good previews.
As a preview of things to come,
listeners, I'm not sure if any of you who have ever seen
the famous Paris Hilton Carl's Jr. ad,
where she's like on the hood of a car with a burger
and it's like cleaning the car or sexy.
We recreated that with a shitty Mazda and a Mr. Beast book.
So look forward to that.
That's going to be fucking amazing.
But yeah, that's what I've been up to.
Hell yeah.
Amazing.
I'll pick it up.
I've been catching up on the classics is what I've been doing.
You might remember in the last one I said, but I finished reading, what was it, War and Peace.
Since then, I've inhaled, sorry, I've inhaled War and Peace.
I've inhaled the brothers Karamazov and crime and punishment.
Yes.
And oh, and they're all so fucking good.
God damn it.
I'm reading through a translation of Wu Chengen's Monkey King at the moment.
Hell yeah.
Journey to the West.
Very fun.
Really good stuff.
I've seen the anime adaptation, Dragon Balls, are you?
Exactly.
It's really good.
It's really fun because it's like evolved from what was like an oral storytelling
tradition kind of passed down over like hundreds of years.
And like it includes chapters at the start that are entirely there to just
explain why the Tang Emperor, the first couple of Tang emperors were really stable.
It was like in their go, like, they must have had some kind of like God thing happens.
So there's like little myths included about the Tang Emperor at the start to be like,
this is why that that rain was so peaceable.
Oh yeah, you have the mandate of heaven?
Exactly.
About yourself, you wouldn't read much, Nova?
Yeah, not reading as much as I wish I could.
I've been trying to sort of read into different characters that I've been playing at different laps.
And so I went onto a thing of sort of Italian literature for a bit.
So I was reading Luigi Pirandello as The Betrothed, which is very good, very good romance novel.
Simula Alaramo is a woman to get to as well.
A woman.
And I'm just going to work my way through a woman.
Indeed, all of those.
As far as movies go, a couple of interesting things that I've seen lately that I want to sort of highlight.
Both of which I think could be really good for us.
I saw Chevalier, which I've been meaning to see for years and years and years.
It's by Athena Rachel Sangare, who co-produced Alps and Dogtooth.
Nice.
Also did Atenberg as well.
And it's just, it's a great film about guys having an interesting time being guys, just guys being dudes.
What's better than this?
I love that.
God, I love that.
Related to that, I saw very recently the Settlers Los Colanos.
Oh, I've had that on my watch list for so long.
It's so, well, okay, it's really good, but for the first two-thirds, you'll hate it, right?
And then it justifies everything in the last sequence or so.
Okay.
And the one other thing I'll say about it is, if ever there was a movie ruined by streaming services blocking the credits of the movie to try and get you to watch other things, it's this.
Right? You have to be on that no show me the credits button because the credits are, you know, a sort of a huge part of it. They kind of are the ending of the movie. But yeah, it's a great, great film. It's beautiful. Like a naked gun, they put jokes in it?
Yeah. I mean, sort of, yeah. Kongfu grit, best boy electric, best boy magma. Yeah, yeah. It just, it feels it feels like, you know, people are finally listening to the psychic beam attack that I've been putting out into the world.
that just says stop moving the camera, right?
They're listening to me, and they finally started to put it on a tripod where it belongs
and then just frame the shots around that.
And I don't know, it's a great kind of historical movie.
It sort of feels a bit like, you know, a bit like War and Peace to an extent,
but significantly kind of grubier.
Or if you want a kind of more Brain Ross's analogy, a bit like playing Victoria too.
It's really, really good.
Highly recommend it.
Very excited to see what Philippaigalves Abeléle does next.
So, yeah, Los Colmen was huge endorsement.
The other thing you've been doing, Lately Nova, is writing.
I've really been enjoying reading your vagina.
Fuck, yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
So I have vaginoplasti scheduled tentatively for April of next year,
and I've been writing about that process,
about, you know, the sort of consults and going through it,
and the things that I need to do beforehand.
I'm going to try and write the whole way.
through pretty much, just do a whole sort of diary thing that's on my Patreon, which is patreon.com
slash post-octobrist. You don't have to pay me for it. It'll all be free eventually. The first
two bits of it are right now it's weekly, but it's just because I have a lot to sort of talk about.
I'm sure that it'll kind of spread out over time. And yeah, it's a really sort of personal,
really like emotional thing, very vulnerable, I guess. So if you want to see something that,
it does have jokes in it because I'm me. But if you want to...
They can't stop you from putting jokes in.
No, no, they can't.
But if you want to see a slightly more, I guess, sort of intimate and grisly thing that
I'm doing, then yeah, that's something that you can read.
And all of the, all proceeds go to my surgery.
So thank you to everyone who has subscribed.
And you should.
That's a Patreon post-Octobrist.
You said War and Peace as a movie, and I have actually done that because now I finished
War and Peace, I immediately inhaled like five adaptations of it just to see.
Sure.
The Paul Dana one, pretty decent.
The one that the Soviet Union did.
Now, that's fucking movies.
The Sergame.
Bondiuchuk ones.
Fan fucking Tastic.
I will say Bondiuchuk, not Pierre, not how anyone imagines Pierre in their head when they
read Warren Fees.
But the guy they had playing Kuduzov is fucking perfect.
What a series of movies.
Bondiatic did a fantastic,
Waterloo film, which will be on our list for war season when we get there.
God, I got to check that out.
When I found the Moss film YouTube account just has a bunch of like full-length
Russian movies just uploaded and you can just watch them and they've got the English
subtitles just completely free on YouTube, I did inhale a bunch of them.
I watched this silent movie about Battleship Potemkin.
Oh, yeah, so, okay, Eisenstein, yes.
Eisenstein.
Oh, my God, fantastic.
What a shame that the USS Lincoln is done and over, and they came back to land.
Never had a revolution.
One of the great non-events of the 21st century, that fucking Lincoln rebellion.
I got a real bone to pick with the USS Lincoln sailors.
What the fuck were you doing?
Anyway, sorry.
Not Cronstadt.
Not the sort of battleship of time you nor the battleship Aurora, which is fucked up
because they sent them to Thailand, you know?
I mean, I've had on my list for a hot minute the Peter Greenaway thing, Eisenstein and Guanuato, just because it's supposedly terrible.
And I love Peter Greenaway, so I want to see what him just absolutely, like, ripping ass looks like.
Oh, yeah.
Other thing I saw recently, Derek Jarman's Wittgenstein biography.
Really good, really funny, really gay, which I appreciate it.
Hell yeah.
And, yeah, it's didactic, but it's a biography.
What do you want from me, you know?
I vastly prefer it to Oppenheimer, for instance.
I haven't told you to this yet, but I'm not sure how much of this I'm allowed to publicly say,
but I've been asked to be on the jury for a very big film festival, which will be soon.
So recently, I've been watching movies to judge them and pick my favorite.
It feels weird doing it without YouTube.
We have some experience judging movies.
I'm never going to make content out of it too.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Well, that's why they ask me.
But like they, yeah, I can't share my views with the list that I've just been watching movies on my own.
and making notes on my own, like some kind of freak.
Are you doing the, I watched everything
because I'm a member of the Academy thing?
Let me join the Academy.
Please, I will watch it all.
Basically, yeah.
Nice.
Sick, absolutely sick.
I tell you fucking what I've been watching recently.
I have finally wrote the Band-Aid off,
and I've watched the Sopranos.
Ooh, how's that I'm sorry.
Now I understand all those references that everyone was making over the last decade.
One of which is in the first.
That's part of my surgery thing.
I got a soprano's reference in that, which is the cost of being a leftist.
And as a result of that, what I've been listening to recently is there is a podcast called Pod Yourself a Gun that I have been enjoying a great deal.
It's like a soprano's re-watch podcast.
Check that out.
Okay.
One complaint, one of the hosts does lean a little bit too heavily on what I would determine, what I would call our word voice a little bit too much sometimes, which.
Which is, you know, tough to listen to, but other than that, really good.
Love it.
Okay.
Check that out, but be aware.
But watch out.
But watch out.
All right.
Hit us, question, master.
I think that's all of our cultural input.
Question.
Gorgeous.
Hit us.
Hit us.
Hit him with the quiz.
I got a question here from Ripley Winters who asks, what's your favorite shape?
Oh, booba, for sure.
Oh, you beat me to it.
Well, you have to take Kiki now, obviously.
I think...
Parallelogram.
You know what?
Oh, a rhombus?
Delightful.
I'm going to get with a triangle.
It's a very strong shape, as we all know, from high school.
You know, a parallelogram is a weak answer.
Trapezius, one of the kind of...
When you put your hand on top of a rectangle and push the top a little bit, that's a good shape right now.
I love a hexagon, though.
I feel bad that you can't say Pentagon without being sort of compromised by the military
industrial complex, you know?
That's why I say hexagon.
because it's like the Pentagon, but it's one better.
It's French, too, which we approve of?
Exactly.
Also, it's a hexagons is a really good song on Muses' new album.
Dodecahedron?
A shape that I can't think about without the whole,
A New Hand Touches the Beacon Thing in my head.
Yes!
Yes!
Oh, love that sword.
A bit time I see a bucky ball.
I'm like, A new hand.
A new hand touches the beacon.
Question from Ash.
Sorry, sorry.
Just the dumbest possible.
interjection. You know in Dorn Guards, right, where they shine the big beam on you, right?
That's modelled and the model is a, is the fucking Merida dodecahedron with a magnifying glass
attached to it in a bucket. That's awesome. That's perfect. That's like the fucking train and
fallout three just being a hat. Yeah. But you know, I love programming. I love video games.
I love when I do that shit. Ash asks, what is your favorite movie that you absolutely don't
recommend to anyone.
Oh, I mean...
We did cover the Night Porter.
Yeah, the Night Porter is up there.
Yes.
That's got to be up there.
Okay, other things like that.
I wouldn't recommend sallow to people.
Although it's not my favorite movie.
It is a good film, but I wouldn't recommend it to people.
I wouldn't recommend Red rooms to people because...
Red room.
It's a fantastic film, but not only is it like an uncomfortable subject matter,
but it will make you feel really bad.
Like, it will ruin your day.
I'm tempted to...
Well, my first thought was the castration movie series,
but I do recommend people watch those like once.
Because like castration movie two is genuinely incredible,
but it's like a horrible, horrible watch.
I still haven't seen part three,
but I did ADR for part four yesterday, so I'm excited for that.
You know what I have to say here, folks.
