Welcome to the Kind of Funny Games cast for Friday, September 18th, 2026. my most anticipated kind of funny games cast in quite some time.
Starting point is 00:03:21 No way. Really? A hundred percent. I mean, hey, everybody, I'm one of your host, Greg Miller, alongside, of course, Byset, Poppy Blessing at E. you or you, Jr. The nitro rifle, Andy Cortez. Hello, Greg. And yeah, I love remedy games. And this is one of those ones where Control Resonant has been coming for a while. And the way my review schedule lined up, I was not able to do anything with it.
Starting point is 00:03:41 So the fact that I have you two here to pull from, to tell me if it lives up to, of the hype to tell me, I'll answer all my burning questions about it. I'm very, usually you just get to listen to these kind of games cast, you know? Mine us for data, you know? Yeah, exactly, exactly. I love data mining, Andy.
Starting point is 00:03:56 I'm burrowing deep in there. I'm getting in there all the RGV. You know what I mean? RGBs. I said RGV, right? Rio Grande Valley. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. In the RGV, we don't play no games. We don't play no games. Yeah, I'm going back to Texas next.
Starting point is 00:04:15 week. It's on calendar. I haven't seen that. Yeah, it's been on there for. I think you're on content next week. Been on there for a couple of weeks now. Are you working from Texas? Are you just there?
Starting point is 00:04:24 No, I'm just going, rush concerts in Tantonia, so we're going to that as well. We have an episode called the Andy Cortez team scouts. Everybody, welcome to the kind of funny games, each and every weekday. We run you through the nerdy video game topics. You need to talk about whether they be reviews,
Starting point is 00:04:41 or just things we need to talk about each and every weekday. If you like that, of course, be part of the show live as we go with your control resident questions. That's right. It's the big review today. You can super chat on YouTube.com slash Kind of Funny games. And of course, if you like what we do here, pick up a membership, but I'll tell you about that later. Because first, I need to thank our producers on Patreon.com slash Kind of Fun funny.
Starting point is 00:05:02 Omega Buster, Delaney the Somptuining and Michael Pezzavento. You keep looking at me. What did I do? Oh, you're just hosting. Okay, good. You do a great job. I don't know where else to look. It's fine.
Starting point is 00:05:10 Usually you did the thing where you like whipped your head. Because I, let's get to it. That's get to it. What is forever will be topic of the show. Tots, tots, tots, dots, dots, dots, dots. As I said, I can't wait to hear about this video game. Because I haven't heard much about it. But what I've seen is I've been reviewing a different redacted that I'll tell you about next week.
Starting point is 00:05:31 I'm sitting here and I'm playing erected. And I swear to God every five to ten minutes I see Blessing doing this. Like he is being preached to him. I've seen this so many times. And this grin and the slabs I thought you're going to mention the amount of just like levels of me being
Starting point is 00:05:53 angry at the screen because as much as there is like the there's also the God damn it like he almost punched my desk getting frustrated while playing this video. Yeah it's been we'll get to all that of course if you didn't know Control Resonant reads like this
Starting point is 00:06:09 on the Steam description explore Warped Manhattan on the brink of paranormal natural annihilation in this thrilling action-adventure RPG. Unleashed the extraordinary powers of Dylan Faden as he fights for his humanity and our survival against reality-bending cosmic threat, of course, made and published by Remedy Entertainment.
Starting point is 00:06:28 This is another entrance into the Remedyverse, which of course is a storied franchise. Of course, 2025 saw FBC Fire Break, 2023, Alan Wake 2, which is crazy. When I wrote down, 2023 was Alan Wake 2? That's a game showdown question, feudity question.
Starting point is 00:06:43 That was one. I meant to ask this, the Andy on content of did Alan Wake 2 come out last year or the year before? Because me and Tim on KFGD yesterday were having a conversation. And I mentioned, yeah, Alan Wade 2 came out fall 2024. Then we got to go wrong saying it came out fall 2023. Outrageous. And we were like no shot. When did the DLC come out?
Starting point is 00:07:02 Was it the following year? Yeah. Okay. So I probably would have said 2024 just because I remember playing it in 2024 when you and I had that stream. Yeah. Three years ago that game came out. 2019 of course 23 is three years ago
Starting point is 00:07:15 yeah yeah I was gonna say too 2019 saw the immaculate control before that I was a big fan of quantum break in 2016 2012 Alan Wake's American Nightmare 2010 Alan Wake and of course 2003 Max Payne 2
Starting point is 00:07:28 and 2001 Max Payne that's just Max Payne's awesome I want to toss it in there where I started with remedy even though I guess two Quantum Break technically isn't in the remedy verse as we just deal with Alan Wake and control but a storied franchise here a storied list of games
Starting point is 00:07:41 so much to talk about. This comes out on September 24th, so you know they're pretty confident when they let the release review embargo go up on a Friday well before any of that. I want to know, gentlemen, how much you've played? If you beat it
Starting point is 00:07:56 and then your top level thought and score on the kind of funny scale, Andy Cortez, the nitro rifle, kick me off. I played control for 47 hours. Damn. Could have beat it a lot sooner. Okay.
Starting point is 00:08:11 Didn't want to. God, this game is incredible. Yeah. I think it's easily my, in recent memory, my favorite type of one of these games. We're on its surface,
Starting point is 00:08:28 you open the map, and you might think it's a, it's an icon slop. We're going to give you just a bunch of inconsequential, unimportant side missions everywhere. Okay. And it,
Starting point is 00:08:39 this is, is like a remedy, I think, doing the best version of one of those games. When you're saying one of those games, you mean an open world, quest filled? Yeah, just, Ubisoft kind of thing? Yeah, yeah. You know, unlocking towers, you know, whatever, that sort of thing. But, you know, aside from maybe a handful of them, and actually it's one thing that I unlocked recently, which it's kind of, I'm not, no spoilers on any of this.
Starting point is 00:09:07 But this is just one of those incredibly special games where Remedy. took a very, you know, a tired formula, I would say, that, you know, can still result in some special video games. We talk about Blood of Don Walker yesterday on that spoiler cast and how much we enjoyed that game. This is, I think, such a strong entry from Remedy. It's my favorite Remedy game. No shit. I can't believe they made a game that I enjoyed to play more than control, as much of a third-person shooter I am.
Starting point is 00:09:40 Yeah, I think this game is fucking incredible And production value-wise, cutscene-wise, story-wise And giving you side quests that have so much substance So whether they are consequential to the end story or not There are just so many good-ass random side quests That are so interesting And you want to see them through because they are they're so compelling
Starting point is 00:10:10 with what they're telling you. So it is both they're so compelling and they're so interesting because of the story they're telling is the gameplay different? Is it or is it both? A lot of times both.
Starting point is 00:10:22 Yeah, I mean, and obviously visually we know what remedy is capable of with how amazing the visuals were in control and Alan Wake 2. Yeah, this game, I'm giving this game
Starting point is 00:10:35 a 9.5 out of 10. I'm sure I'll get the questions of like why not a masterpiece and I would agree with some of the reviews with combat getting a bit repetitive and how it's done and we'll get into that a bit further but I would say like you know this is a must-buy recommendation I could not recommend this game more this is one that I just could not put down I only wanted to keep playing this game and that's with me feeling like, oh, maybe the, the combat's getting a bit more repetitive here,
Starting point is 00:11:11 and then a new thing would unlock, and I would have this new avenue of combat expression. Yeah, the game is so fucking phenomenal, and I had an amazing time with it. Hell yeah. I want to hear more about that. You played on PC? Played on PC. Okay, great, great. We'll get in all that. We'll do that. But bless you, now we turn our eyes to you. Because, yeah, I had heard early on, and he was like, oh, it's great. And that's, you know, that's as much that I got. And then I talked to you, and there was some frustration to begin with. So I'm not sure where we are with you.
Starting point is 00:11:39 I echo so much of what Andy says, right? This is a, it's an interesting one to review and put a score on because there were plenty of moments while playing this game where I was like, this is a 10 out of 10 video game. Like this is clearly the game of the year. This is one of the best video games I've played in a while. And I, as I sit here, I can't give it a 10 out of 10 because there are too many things bringing it down. Mostly on the gameplay side.
Starting point is 00:12:06 I think there are, you guys have probably seen the reviews, and I echo so much of the frustrations, whether it be things like combat, inconsistent difficulty, other things that might bring it down. But overall, when I look at the full package of this thing, this is such a special video game. I walked in here thinking I was going to give it a 9.5 out of 10. And then I wrote down a bunch of notes just to get on the page, how do I really feel about this thing? I'm going to give it a 9 out of 10. It is a special video game. It is fighting for my game of the year right now. That's one of the best.
Starting point is 00:12:36 It's, for me, I agree with Andy. It's the best remedy game that I've played. I think this is a truly special game that I highly recommend people check out. And for me, I think the thing that seals it is that my favorite video games, the best video games that I've played, feel like magic in many of the moments. The best video games I've played are games that make me go, how did you do this? And most of Control Resonant, as I'm playing it, I'm asking myself, how did y'all make this? How did you design a level this way?
Starting point is 00:13:05 pure artistry. It's pure artistry and that's both as far as visuals and how these places look. You walk into a location and it's like wow, I can't believe what I'm looking at. But then it's, I'm exploring a level and you guys have seen the trailers, you've seen the gravity shifting stuff. That ain't nothing.
Starting point is 00:13:22 You get to the second half of this game and what they do with that stuff and how they create entire open world spaces around that. It's extremely impressive in a way that I just don't understand how they did it. And that to me is the magic of playing this game. And you know, you get into the things that Control One did well. And it's the writing.
Starting point is 00:13:41 It's the weird sci-fi concepts that they pull together based off these interdimensional things being pulled into Earth. And they double down on that in this game. There are so many interesting side quests like Andy's talked about. And so many amazing main story moments here that we can get into as far as just weird, weird sci-fi concepts that they tackle in such interesting ways that, of course, I don't want to spoil, but really do make this experience what it is. I had such a fantastic time playing this game.
Starting point is 00:14:07 I played for 35 hours. I should mention that. And you played on PlayStation 5. And I want to go back and play more. I need to go back and do more of the side quests. It's one of those great where I'm like I'm, I want to just try so hard to not overglaze this and set expectations so monumentally high. But like, as I'm playing Control Resident, all I kept thinking is like,
Starting point is 00:14:29 this is why a game like this is why I love video games. this takes advantage of the medium in its totality, and it's why it's the best medium there is to experience anything. And it's why it's my favorite medium, just what they do with interactivity and how they weave in... I don't even want to get into spoilers, but it's just like, it's so damn special. The...
Starting point is 00:14:56 I think the tone of the writing and everything is so much more enjoyable than it was in control for, for me. I agree. And in control, they were... Okay, well, so, I mean,
Starting point is 00:15:06 I gotta stop you because I got a million quick. You agree. They're saying this. What do you mean by that? Because I did like Control's writing. It was very X-Files and very much in Jesse's head. And then we'd have a conversation with somebody wearing a dish on their chest.
Starting point is 00:15:18 Yeah. Like, what's the difference? Um, so I did enjoy how weird it would, you know, control could get with like the threshold kids little videos and, and Casper Darling being just this kind of weird force in the,
Starting point is 00:15:30 in the, inside of the oldest house. Um, this looks fucking sick. I've never, I don't think I've ever watched a straight B roll of the game. There's just, we gotta talk about the combat. There's just, um, the way that I love how weird Alan Waite could get with its dialogue, especially in the DLC where they really kind of like unshackled themselves or like, let's just have the most amount of fun with the writing.
Starting point is 00:15:54 Yeah, yeah, yeah. There are so many like laugh out loud moments for me in this that aren't trying to be overly comedic. It's just really quick and snappy and witty writing. Okay. Whether it has to do with either a main story beat or you talking to Zoe, who was kind of like your focus M girl. I had so much of the thought during playing this game where I'm like, this is such a focus M game. But also it's like it's such an it's such evidence that the Twitter meme of it just makes no sense.
Starting point is 00:16:23 Yeah. As far as like people complain about anything. Like it's such a that type of game, but also it works because of it. Yeah. I love Zoe. I love the character growth. that all these characters go through, you being this untrustworthy force in the world,
Starting point is 00:16:36 you killed a lot of people when you were P6 inside of the oldest house. You were P6, a Project 6, or whatever. I don't know what the P stands for, actually. But, yeah, you were a dangerous person. Yeah. And then the oldest house kind of got overrun, and all of the hiss bad guys escaped into New York,
Starting point is 00:16:57 and you're like, hey, I can help stop this. I can help you the FBC. and the amount of untrustworthy people around you that are just like, oh, that's that, man, that guy fucking, you're responsible for the death of all. I just love the growth that happens through that journey. There's so many awesome story beats in this
Starting point is 00:17:17 and awesome performances. There's like a random voice memo, super inconsequential of the shit. It's just kind of just giving you information. But I'm like listening to a string of these voice memos, And I'm like, God damn, who is this voice actor? This is so fucking good. And there are a lot of those moments in this video game.
Starting point is 00:17:39 To feed in kind of a complaint, but we'll be back around to a compliment to what you're saying, is I think the surrounding cast around Dylan, I don't think there's a weak link. Like every character that you meet is so good. Dylan himself, I found to be a bit dull. I think his story is good. I think though riding around him is dull, but he's good. But there's the dullness because they want you to project onto him? Maybe, but I didn't. I don't feel like I felt that way with Jesse.
Starting point is 00:18:03 And so there's something about Dylan where he just doesn't have as much personality. And maybe it's, I think it's also, I don't know what personality his character would have because he's been in coma. He was a weapon and in a coma forever. And so I think he's meant to be a bit emotionless because of the state of his being. But it's tough when it's, well, I'm playing at this character for 40 hours. He's been in a building since he was 10. Yeah. And so he doesn't really have a personality to work off of, except he likes a very specific video game, which I did like that.
Starting point is 00:18:31 But the surrounding characters they put around them, I think do help kind of carry it and give the personality that you need. I mean, we're obviously staying away for spoilers. Of course. I'm coming in, honestly, I mean, it's remedy, so I'll be there. I'll show up. But I'm coming in, I think, as blackout as you can with us reacting to trailers. So my question becomes this, is it a large cast of characters he surrounded himself with? Because everything I've seen is always, you know, him fighting in this open Manhattan and just beating on things.
Starting point is 00:18:58 So, like, are we dealing with a lot of different people? Is it a small team? I'd say like maybe five-ish. Okay. Core characters. With a lot of other, like, random side characters that are around the hub worlds, the hub zones. Okay, okay. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:14 Yeah, I mean, it's... Like, you meet a lot of characters for side quests and for sure. One-off chapters in the story. And you will be corresponding with them and going back and getting more follow-up on that one thing that we discovered. And did you ever find out about this and that? And how you're like in the FBC? Like, there's a lot of, like, ways to kind of further and deal. in those relationships.
Starting point is 00:19:31 Okay. But there's just a lot of really fascinating side characters that, you know, are not main quest important, but they are so interesting that you just want to see what they got to say. What about if you're seeing these scores and you're super excited and you want to drop in, are you completely lost if you didn't play control? There is a recap in the main menu. Okay. You could watch that and it'll kind of catch you up on what happened in control.
Starting point is 00:19:59 in control. I don't think you'll be, I think you can jump into this game and be fine. It definitely is, if you played the original control, you will get more out of it. Everyone go by control and play control. Like this is a direct sequel in a way,
Starting point is 00:20:13 and so that does help, but it being a new, not a new character, but it being a different character and you kind of starting off from his story, it does lend itself to, you can pick it up and enjoy what's happening on screen, enjoy the story,
Starting point is 00:20:26 not be completely lost. Okay, cool, cool. God, I love their title treatment. It's so good. I mean, every time it happens, it's just, you know, this game is just so sauced up to the gills. Because they line up the title treatment this time with, unlocking new areas in the open world.
Starting point is 00:20:44 And so they do a great job of pairing it up with vistas. Where you walk out and you see a cityscape and then, and it's like, yeah. Come on. Yeah. You know, I did read some reviews, and obviously everybody's, you know, tied up to how they feel.
Starting point is 00:20:58 Except that's how. That's how, except Jordan Middlel. That's how, you know, experiencing different pieces of art is. But, like, to me, when I left the preview, I was like, okay, this combat's flashy and cool. I love the gravitational stuff of being able to plane shift and now, you know, do the Don Walker thing. I'm now on the wall. Now I'm on the ceiling. Now, you know, all of that stuff is really, really neat.
Starting point is 00:21:22 But I still was never sold on the concept of the open zone thing. Sure. Right. The whole, the idea that there are these open zones to go find quests and little loot boxes and treasures and things like that,
Starting point is 00:21:39 after doing the preview, I was like, okay, this seems fascinating. Maybe it's just a way to do, to get XP and maybe to, you know, level up and, you know, go through my progression or whatever. But I was really blown away by
Starting point is 00:21:53 the amount of depth and substance in these open worlds and the amount of, discovering really awesome things, whether it be an NPC side quest or now I'm in a museum. What am I doing? There's a little puzzle here.
Starting point is 00:22:09 There's so many cool little puzzles and there's so much, I would say, like, if anything, this is the open world game for me with the most variety where each, I don't know, like category of side activity you're doing, it's never just, kill the 10 things and come report back.
Starting point is 00:22:29 Okay. Or collect the five things and come report back. There's always a weird little gimmick even within those subcategories of these side quests. I think they're just it's so creative and it just shows that like no open world games are not creatively bankrupt. Oh yeah. Like they I think they did the the most you know fun variety version of this open world game that you could experience. It's the kind of game that I can myself accidentally 100% because I don't feel like I am knocking off a checklist of activities.
Starting point is 00:23:03 It does feel like, well, no, this specific activity has a storyline connected to it, and I want to see that through because I'm really invested in the fate of a character here. Or this one over here involves me clearing out this thing, and I want to make sure that I do this because I'm having a lot of fun doing this. And they do a good job of it not being, all right, now just clear all the things. It is very much like, okay, in each open zone, we have one of X, activity and then one of why activity and it doesn't feel repetitive it feels like
Starting point is 00:23:31 all right cool we're progressing the stories it all feels like it matters it all feels like it matters yeah okay hell yeah yeah it never feels hollow you know I didn't really ever feel like I was I think an incredible you know word of an incredible endorsement for this game is that this is not a podcast game
Starting point is 00:23:51 and it should be on all fronts all your attention it should be on all fronts you look at it and it It's like you open up that open world map and granted, I was playing the podcast at one point. I'm like, oh, there's stories. I got to listen. That's the hallmark. And that happens a lot.
Starting point is 00:24:07 And it's like that's, and don't get me wrong. I love a podcast game. I love throwing it out and just, you know, checking off boxes. This is not that. It requires attention because it's so good. Like, not because like, oh, I need to listen to what that person says to solve that puzzle. It's like, no, it just requires your attention because it demands your attention because everything is so compelling. and interesting.
Starting point is 00:24:27 To do you one further, I'm somebody who I prefer a podcast, the open world. Like, there's something about that that just gets to be lost in time. But I think, like you,
Starting point is 00:24:35 I was listening to podcasts and then dialogue would start. I'll pause the podcast. And you know it's good because I'll forget to turn on. Yeah. Like, I'd play for 30 more minutes. And I'm like,
Starting point is 00:24:45 oh shit, I forgot to turn the thing back on because I'm so locked in into what's happening on screen. I want to talk about difficulty and I want to talk about combat. But before then I'll talk about the kind of funny membership.

You can blame it on Nick. So let's talk about it.
Starting point is 00:29:43 Combat. Control. A lot of superpowers we're using. And then, of course, one badass gun, Andy. Badass gun. This one, melee ended up out there. Malay end up. You got a badass melee weapon called the aberrant.
Starting point is 00:29:56 The aberrant. Aborant. And it transforms. It's just like, it's just this weird metal. And, you know, I read a little side piece of lore where they're like, we asked Dylan, what the hell? What the hell is this? and he was like, it's just a, it's a weapon that, it's metal that just does what it needs to do in the moment.
Starting point is 00:30:13 And you're like, whoa, that sounds really, really cool. That is fucking cool. But yeah, so all of my worries about the combat were kind of realized from the preview into the playthrough. What were your worry? My worries were that it would be a bit more shallow than I wanted. Okay. And, you know, thinking back,
Starting point is 00:30:37 Greg to a great game called Alabaster Don. And just really any game, really any game that makes it so that square, square, square is different from square, hold square than square, or square triangle square is different from
Starting point is 00:30:53 triangle triangle square. You're like, I love when a game gives you that ability. And for the most part, I'm hitting square three times a lot at first, and then you're just doing different stuff after that. And that's kind of how a lot of fights always start.
Starting point is 00:31:09 However, there are a shit ton of abilities with a lot of different forms and there's just a lot of variety with what you can do in this game. So much to the point where you're like, damn, I need like 12 more buttons on this controller. There's a lot of things that you could be doing
Starting point is 00:31:25 to hurt enemies. It's not only the weapon form that you're choosing for the aberrant because you get this weapon and you are given the option to start off with one of three different forms. them, dual blades, and it's stab, stab, stab, yeah. And then the other one is kind of like a,
Starting point is 00:31:43 like an axe you're swinging with one hand, and it hurts enemies. And then the third option is a, what the fuck is the third option? Oh, it's a scythe. It's a scythe. It's a scythe. And then the second upgrade will be, all right, well, now you have a heavy ability. Do you want to select the hammer?
Starting point is 00:32:06 Do you want to select the whip or do you want to select like a drill? And it has the different damage types where different enemies are affected by different damage types. So you have, you got raw damage. And raw is just like standard. That's the basis of what all of this damage is. And there's like blunt damage, which like a hammer will do blunt damage or like a, you know, these boxing gloves that we see will do blunt damage. And then there is sharp damage, which is anything with a blade, anything. that'll like more cut enemies and pierce enemies.
Starting point is 00:32:39 And so, huh? The drill is like sharp, right? Yeah, the drill is sharp, yeah. So a lot of these enemies are affected more strongly by different types of damage. I don't like this guy's head. I don't like this head. Well, let me tell you.
Starting point is 00:32:51 Get used to this guy. Yeah, get used to these guys. So this guy does not go away through the entire game. Some of the frustrations that Bless had, like I felt early on as well. And I think it could be tuned really, really easily because this game has a very, it reminds me a lot of doom
Starting point is 00:33:09 where the different enemies on the battlefield in these encounters they serve their purpose where the smaller fodder enemies will not fully disappear until the big guys are gone and you kill the big guys and some fodder guys might still be around you
Starting point is 00:33:26 and you kill them and then it's over the you know the encounter's over but the small guys are basically there to provide life for you however they're also there to be insane pains in the ass. Dude, it's ridiculous.
Starting point is 00:33:40 And I think that's what needs to be tuned down just a bit to lower a bit of that frustration. There's a lot of good accessibility options. I didn't mess with any of the accessibility options, but they are there for you to tune enemy health and damage and things like that. A lot of stuff to kind of like make... But you did it.
Starting point is 00:33:59 You were happy to roll if it just as is? Yeah, because I eventually started feeling the flow of the combat more. But there are those smaller dudes who, at the start, you'll be fighting a big, heavy enemy, and you're getting pestered with just long-range projectiles. And they do, I think, way more damage than they should. They do, like, almost half of your health bar. And so if you're in a fight and you're kind of, you're feeling good, and then off-camera, you get hit by a pellet, and you're dead, it's like, God, fuck, man.
Starting point is 00:34:29 Like, I- It's really- I'm not healthy enough to be taking this much, or, or we're way too early for to be doing this much damage. Let's just tune you down a little bit to where like the small fodder guys in Doom they shoot projectiles at you too but it's like it's very it's a little bit more than chip damage and it's a little bit enough to like
Starting point is 00:34:48 if you stay stationary long enough you will eventually die to these guys but these dudes in control are like they're assholes, they are relentless. Yeah it's I I think for me it's more of a major complaint because I think at the very start the game's way too hard, way too hard
Starting point is 00:35:04 frustratingly so in the first about eight hours of the game. Oh, okay. And then I switched up my build, found something that worked for me, and then toward later in the game, the game felt way too easy. I think there's a weird inconsistency. You come over that hill and it's just like, now you're God.
Starting point is 00:35:20 And now I'm like, yeah, now I'm like, oh, I really am God. Like, I'm just destroying everything to the point where the game does have a level system where you can see the level of- Yeah, I saw running around, seeing like the three above their- Yeah, and so they have like a three different color system
Starting point is 00:35:32 where if it's the same level as you, It'll be, I think, like, a black number or whatever. If they're a level higher, then it'll be a red number. And then if this is way over leveled for you, it'll just be a skull. Toward the last, I'd say, fourth of the game, I was just doing the main story. And I kept seeing skulls. And I'm like, okay, well, these guys are going to whoop my ass. I was destroying them.
Starting point is 00:35:52 And that's just by the power of the build that I found, which is something that I kind of like, the fact that you can get into the menus, you can get into your skill tree and find something where it's, wow, I feel like I'm ascending above because I found a build that really works here. Pull me over there, then you're talking about getting into your menus, getting into your skill trees. Yeah. What does that look like?
Starting point is 00:36:12 Man. Because we're getting into, I see powers down here with L2R1. It's finding things that are giving me a buff that are doing whatever kind of thing. One of the things I really like about this game is how customizable it is or how you want to approach combat because Andy kind of broke it down there with the primary weapon, the secondary weapon. They also have combo finishers. Cable one, which is the, I want to end my combo with upper-com.
Starting point is 00:36:33 with like a fist kind of thing. Get them up in the air. Get them up in the air. Or I have another one that's like a big club that does a wide swing that applies more stagger damage to them or fault. Fault. Fulter.
Starting point is 00:36:46 That's what they call it. The falter. Faulter. Yeah, so you can then go on. Stop. Stop it. You can then go on and stagger them and do all that stuff.
Starting point is 00:36:54 I like being able to mix and match those different things because it opens up the play style. But then also, yeah, you go into the skill trees and it really does feel, like you can min-max into certain things. And so for the way that I played, I went all in on summons. There's an ability you can get early on
Starting point is 00:37:11 to like summon an orb essentially that's going to keep pinging damage. It'll shoot damage at enemies. And then there are skill tree abilities that are like, okay, well, that thing gets stronger, or that thing does more falter, or that thing does XYZ thing. Early on, I had it going another way of,
Starting point is 00:37:27 I want my perfect dodge to be the thing that benefits me. And then after like the first fourth of the game, I'm like, Let me go in all in on summons. I found so much fun in that to the point where I got overpowered. But yeah, you have those abilities
Starting point is 00:37:40 that you pointed out, Greg, in the bottom right that are like your cool down abilities essentially. They're mapped to the shoulder buttons. Okay. Did you keep accessibility stuff on for the endgame stuff? No. I only turned on accessibility things for like two fights. Okay.
Starting point is 00:37:55 And that was very early on where I felt like the game was way too hard. And then after I got past that, I turned off the accessibility stuff, continue what kind of accessibility is like what bigger windows for parries or blocks this was in a case where I was fighting it was one of the first bosses in the game yeah it's a big boss look really cool uh I think it was in some of the footage he's a guy that kind of spews out fire and all that stuff his health felt like it was taking forever to get down I did like two different fights that lasted it felt like 10 minutes long yeah and I died toward
Starting point is 00:38:26 the end of both of them and I was just like I don't have time for this I know how to do this I'm just going to turn it on so I can beat him faster. Yeah, yeah. And so I made it, I think, just so that I was stronger and then my health
Starting point is 00:38:35 lasted 100. Okay, okay. But once I upgraded enough, didn't really need that at all. Interesting, okay. And so, yeah, it just starts off really difficult,
Starting point is 00:38:42 but didn't need that toward the end game. The, um, the, first off, this game desperately needs a photo mode. Oh, right, right?
Starting point is 00:38:49 Oh, yeah, a question. Desperally. Pixilated soul. Desperately needs a photo mode. Um, but I could also see how that might break some things with like finding secrets
Starting point is 00:38:58 in the open world, because this game is very much about like, finding neat things and maybe the camera could clip through certain spots. I'm not sure. And then the... Can you tell me what you mean by secrets? Is that a secret quest, a collectible or whatever? Yeah, yeah, I would say there's like behind a wall.
Starting point is 00:39:16 Maybe there might be something, you know, neat behind there or whatever. The... I also... Oh, one thing I wish that they didn't do, I wish that they... In the way that they redact a lot of the voice... or not voice memples, those are just voices. But when they redact letters and notes that you are picking up in the world,
Starting point is 00:39:36 I wish that they redacted a lot of the upper parts of the skill tree. Because they... I agree with that. They essentially just spoil abilities that you will be getting. Yeah, there are parts where I texted Andy and I'm like, do you have X, Y, Z thing? And it turned out I just hadn't hit the main story thing to get... Actually unlock it.
Starting point is 00:39:55 Yeah, but it was very clear. I'm like, oh, okay, well, that's going to happen at some point that I'm going to do that. Yeah. So I do wish that that was a bit, you know, because it does stink to see those things. And the game does a nice player-friendly thing as well where when you are upgrading your skill tree, you might see a spot and it'll say you don't have any abilities that use this, like thing that you're trying to buy. Oh, so it's like a waste of time. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:20 So don't. Yeah. But then the one above it might benefit you. So it's like, oh, do I get the one that kind of sucks to get that better one? So there are a couple like confusing-ish moments like that. One that I'll throw in of something that I wish they kind of moved around, and this is a progression thing. Of course, in the trailers, you've seen the gravity shift. I was surprised by how late you get that and the, oh, what's it called?
Starting point is 00:40:42 There's like a grappling hook sort of ability that allows to be like zoom to certain spots quicker. I think that's gravity shift. And what's the one where you just like shift gravity? I thought that was gravity shift. I think that's just a walk in or some shit. Wait, hold on. I wrote it down. But yeah, I wish you got those earlier because they make the game.
Starting point is 00:41:00 way better. Way better for exploration. And I'm surprised by how late you get those things. Yeah, the, you do get those abilities a bit later on. Gravity reach is the grappling hook. Okay, gravity reach is the grappling hook. And that's a pretty main method of getting around the town.
Starting point is 00:41:18 And the game wants you to kind of, you know, feel the friction of trying to find the shortcuts early on in the map. And looking at the map and going, I can't get up there yet. Yeah, yeah. I can walk on this wall, but that wall's not walkable. That means it, like, it kind of wants you to discover the city in that way. And then eventually by the near end of it, by the, you know, the last quarter of the game,
Starting point is 00:41:42 you have all of these abilities. I do agree that I think that it takes a bit too long to get those. But there are, like, every ability you're getting is very story important. And, you know, you have to go do that story thing to get that ability. So it may be a situation where you're like, maybe I just only do story beats. That's my thing is if I'm giving a gamescast games tip. Okay. Oh, Kevin, do we have the, do we have the song?
Starting point is 00:42:08 Because it's a games cast, game tip. Help, don't feel ashamed. It's a games cast. So this is one I might have to work out with you, Andy, because I have two tips that are diametrically opposed to each other. Okay. One of the tips is very early on. The tips. They're docking.
Starting point is 00:42:35 Jesus, it's a family pod. One of the tips is early on, do side stuff, like do the easy side stuff because you're going to want to level up and collect resources and the mainline stuff gets really tough early on. And so doing the side stuff is going to help you out a lot on the main stuff. But also, my second tip is to get the gravity shift as soon as you can. Like, I would say try to mainline until you get the gravity shift. Now, it's tough because of the first tip, I would say if I'm going to do an order of operations, very early on side stuff.
Starting point is 00:43:12 Yeah. And then once you start to be able to mainline well, then mainline into gravity shift and then do more open world stuff. Did you find the guy who gives you taskboard missions? After I beat the game. It was crazy. I walked in kind of like. It felt like something I should have gotten in an hour one. Right before I beat it, I think I met that dude.
Starting point is 00:43:33 and I don't know if he was there the whole time. He must be there the whole time. Because it's likely that a lot of those tasks, and these are like, this is what I was alluding to being like the more generic of the side missions because they're definitely not special sounding. It's just go defend our troops on this street.
Starting point is 00:43:55 Yeah, yeah, yeah. Make sure that little treasure box doesn't get destroyed because the hits are trying to get out. They are the more, I'm only doing this for XP type side quests and I never met that guy and I don't know
Starting point is 00:44:07 I want to start a new game just to see when is he when can I meet him because maybe those would have been really great ways to just kind of get quick and dirty XP and just kind of podcast game it
Starting point is 00:44:19 in a way. He doesn't stick out like we both missed them because it's like you in your hub area I guess it is kind of a hub area in your hub area there's just a lot of
Starting point is 00:44:30 control or FBC workers around and after I beat the game I was doing a side quest in that area and I just happened across this guy and I'm like and he gives me the task board and I'm like this would have been helpful has this always been here granted it's nothing important
Starting point is 00:44:46 it really is the most the sidest of side quest but yeah I was wondering the same thing of is this a better way to get XP so I would say Gamescast game day would be if that guy's available early on he's facing the entrance of like the main building he's right outside of it can't miss him
Starting point is 00:45:03 well we did maybe we did we don't know when he popped up there maybe he started work on our final you know when we took on the final boss or whatever fellow asked the important question what's he look like who I'm looking for what is he's an FBC employee
Starting point is 00:45:17 he's a black dude he's a black dude there's a white dude right next to him I don't remember the white dude maybe I dreamed of white man you always are you're always given the main characters from psych There's a, there's a, there's a, it's a,
Starting point is 00:45:34 it's a, I love UX-1, so. There's a, there's a, a bullet, a big bulletin board next to him with, like, all these little papers on the wand. It looks like if you went to the, Scrumbs. It looks like you went to the Witcher 3 bulletin board. Yeah. But there's like a black dude just saying. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He's like, I was my job.
Starting point is 00:45:52 And I'm like, whoa, when did this happen? They, they seen them. He says something, right, that would make me think of it's later in the game. great job getting halfway through the game you're 75% of the way there I want to show you this task board I got he makes a reference to a thing that happens like halfway through the game okay maybe
Starting point is 00:46:10 so I think he might be a second half of the game thing maybe but anyway try to look for that dude look for the black man great tip yeah hit it kev and also very get varied damage types because you might be fighting a boss and you're like
Starting point is 00:46:34 man I ain't doing shit to this guy and it might be that He's that boss Super resistant to raw damage Or is resistant to blunt damage or sharp damage And the game does a decent amount The game does a decent job of giving you Like skill resets I think you get like three
Starting point is 00:46:51 Or something like that to start Oh it's just sorry yeah You can buy them if you want to reset your thing I guess another tip I'll give If you're in the mood to Just dominate Then I would say Emulate by Build
Starting point is 00:47:06 which is summons. Just go all in on summons. And then one of the special abilities, actually I won't spoil the special abilities. Yeah, that's, those are reveals. I'd like you to spoil this super chat if you don't mind, all right? Yeah. Andy, you ride the bench on this one, okay?
Starting point is 00:47:20 Because you don't have what I need. Michael rode in with a super chat and said, I absolutely love Onimusha. Will another melee heavy game so soon be overwhelming? Also birthday attacks. Keep up the strong work. Happy birthday. Bless, you were on our Onimusha review. I was on the honor of you.
Starting point is 00:47:36 it's not going to spoil. This is a different kind of melee game. You know, this isn't a, this isn't a parry game. I don't even think there's a, no, there's a pari ability at, at all.
Starting point is 00:47:43 There's a Dodge I saw. Yeah, it's a very Dodge heavy game, but it's, it's such a way different game, and it's more about the open world exploration. I know there's a little bit of that in Onamusha. You're going to like it,
Starting point is 00:47:54 but you're going to hate the combat. Really? I don't think you will. If it's not, I mean, you know, parries are whatever, I like them sometimes,
Starting point is 00:48:02 don't like them other times or whatever, but it sounds like I'm just brutalizing and dodging. It looks awesome. I'm using a scythe whipping this thing around. At one point we were in the midair, I was fucking slamming heads into my knee. That looks awesome. I think there's like in the first five hours,
Starting point is 00:48:16 there's a bar you need to push through. See, I think from what you're saying in terms of like the difficulty and that, and I remember talking to you in your first five hours, that I might immediately jump into accessibility. And like, I don't even know what the options are.
Starting point is 00:48:30 Yeah. But like I'm not going to, I'm not going to do eight hours of him. hating it, but I think if this world and this story is that awesome, and I'm doing wrong, I'm going to play it as intended with the regular difficulty and see how I feel I'm not actually going to turn down immediately.
Starting point is 00:48:42 But if I get to a point where I'm just ramming my head over and over again, but like, it's hard without being on sticks to understand what it would be that would annoy me, because just looking at this looks like the games I do play and do enjoy playing. It's the overwhelming nature of the ads. It's kind of what Andy was talking about earlier, where it's like,
Starting point is 00:49:02 take out the big guys first and then work. They're very strong early on. They're weirdly strong early on. And you will get hit by projectiles off screen that you don't see coming. That you don't see coming. And you will want to throw your controller across the room. Okay, fair. You always kind of want to fight knowing where they're at.
Starting point is 00:49:15 Look at the radar. The big red circles are the big heavy bosses that need to be taking down in order to stop the encounter. Okay. And the small red circles are the ads. And always be looking at that radar, no, like, I have all of them in my sight. And I'm going to be fighting from the, angle as much as possible. There's a lot more strategy involved in that way.
Starting point is 00:49:36 And I, you know, there is, there's an ability that, um, you get a little bit health, a little bit of health back on a perfect dodge. And there's an ability where if you do a perfect dodge,
Starting point is 00:49:45 the next attack does crit damage. And I found a lot of fun managing all that and seeing when that enemy does that really telegraphed attack. Yeah. Yeah. Like it, there's, there's a cool,
Starting point is 00:49:57 like visceral nature to it. Andy, let me bring this question in for you. Okay. Okay. Jason, and I don't know if you have an answer for it. Okay. Because you...
Starting point is 00:50:06 Okay. Jason Super Chassis, I'm so excited. I'm debating getting it on base PS5 or PC. Did you guys play Control Resonant on the Steam deck? Control runs great, so I'm wondering if it's optimized on handheld. Did you check this out on anything? I did. I don't think it's quite optimized yet, but the setting is there called handheld.
Starting point is 00:50:25 Okay, great. For setting. It's clear that they want this to be able to run well on a handheld. And it was like, it's a weird one because I was getting like 30 frames. I was like shocked that it was like running decently. Yeah. And so you're getting like 30 frames. It's just normal for this caliber of game on a handheld.
Starting point is 00:50:43 And then there would just be like random hitch of like a really, really strong series of frame drops. And then it would be fine again. And I think it just comes down to them wanting to, you know, maybe just keep on optimizing that. But it looks freaking incredible on PC. My goodness. It's, it's remedy using all of the path tracing tech that, you know,
Starting point is 00:51:06 kind of started with control where I'm like, oh, what is this ray tracing stuff in control? And just how they've, with how amazing Alan Wake 2 looked, you know, this being an open world game, which is a completely different challenge.
Starting point is 00:51:19 And I, it is so freaking incredible. You've played it on PS5 and PS5. Well, hold on before, yeah, I'm going to get to that. Okay.
Starting point is 00:51:25 You're not hosting the show. Sorry. All right. You sit there and you answer my fuck. You're right. You got it. My question would, because I plan on playing
Starting point is 00:51:30 this a lot on my ROG question there would be with the combat you guys are talking about getting a projectile off the screen yet is that actually going to be manageable is there so much happening that you're putting in the handheld screen yeah it's not i think it being more of a open world style of combat yeah yeah yeah not an animusia you don't need that much precision okay i think it's more so about area management and running around and making sure that you're not getting hit i also will shout out a tweet from daini penya who says control resident is easily my favorite remedy title yet It's a masterpiece, yada, yada. Played close to 40 hours on the ROG Xbox Ally X, and I'm still completing side quest.
Starting point is 00:52:06 Oh, yeah, that's what I want to hear. This was one that when I beat the game, or shit, even when I was like 30 hours in, I was like, this is so easily my game of the year. And it's not even close. And I loved First Light and Meena the Hollower, which are like the two games that were battling for number one. This is easily my number one for the year. That's the tough thing for me is it is double seven first light was in that game of the year so far.
Starting point is 00:52:30 spot for me. This is fighting 007 first light. And in moments I was like this is clearly better. But then in other moments I'm like it has way higher highs than 0-070 first light. The highs in control resident are easily going to be some of the highest highs of the year, but it does have lower lows.
Starting point is 00:52:46 I can't wait to play it and get to these points where you were like, just a random slack in the middle of the day or night, I forget. You're just like hey everybody, remedy still got it. Remedy has it. Oh no, no, yeah. Reedy has it. You select like on a Saturday or a sudden, you're like nobody's doing it like remedy. Yeah. It's like And then I said, if you all fuck me on Game of the Year, like, we will fight in the streets.
Starting point is 00:53:04 The other thing I wanted to bring up was, oh, going back to the, like, the high, high moments. It's one of those things where you're like, I don't know how they can outdo past stuff that they've done. And they do. Yeah. And it all culminates with awesome music going alongside it and crazy visuals and just, like, goosebumps all of the time. time. This game delivers so many of those big moments. It feels like they were looking at the ashtray maze and going,
Starting point is 00:53:37 how do we pepper this all throughout the game? Oh, that's fucking off. Yeah. That's what I want to hear. Yeah, because there's never just like, oh, this must be the game's astray maze. There's a handful of, like, diet ashtray mazes. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:53:50 That, like, aren't there, but, like, they are there. It's not one I can pick out, but there are, yeah, like, five or six different moments where I'm like, God damn. Like, this is crazy as I'm jumping through all these. Actually, there is one I can pick out of my brain.
Starting point is 00:54:05 And I would have to replay Ash Trey Maze to compare and contrast. But there is one moment as I was playing through and I don't want to say anything about it, but I was like, man, this is, they're just on another level.
Starting point is 00:54:16 Yeah, I got Tiri out. I was like, this is fucking art. Like, this is special. So I want to get back to the console in one second. But I think we're in a great question place here. A great place for this question from OngG, Alex,
Starting point is 00:54:26 who super chatted and said, how much is Sam Lake's absence felt if at all. Because of course, Sam not working on this as he's working on other games. Dude, I think that's the amazing thing about why Remedy is so special and keeping this team together that's been so, you know, integral to all of the, you know, success and misses over time. Like, when we were at the control resident event in L.A. for the preview event, like, they, a couple of them even made jokes about firebreak not being great and just being like a failure and it was like oh damn i wasn't expecting like you all to kind of you know take your a shot at your own thing like that
Starting point is 00:55:09 i think that there is so that's the thing that shocked me the most that this was not led by sam lake but it's the remedy DNA that is all throughout this experience whether it like this game is on its surface so Action RPG. Yeah. It is so like, it could look so run in the mill if I gave you a five second clip of anything. And then I could show you 90 other things where it's like, this is the weirdest shit ever. How does this make sense in this world?
Starting point is 00:55:43 And it just does because they have so much creative freedom to, they have so much trust with the audience. And it's so much in the writing. Like, it's in the visuals and it's in the writing. When you get to certain quests and it's, this has such a specific sense of humor. And I'm laughing at the dialogue, but also I'm so engaged with the weird concept that they've set up. think that's why the Remedyverse, but particularly control and control resonant, I think they exist in such a special world because it feels like they can throw in anything and it works because the whole idea of the game is things are weird.
Starting point is 00:56:16 The concept of the game is shit's fucked, shit's weird, other dimensions are interacting with this one. And so therefore, we have a bunch of people that are involved in science that are trying to manage all this stuff, control all this stuff, but also explain it, but we can't explain it. We're doing the best we can. And I love how weird and bizarre this game gets because of that.
Starting point is 00:56:39 I've been pestering blessed to do one side quest that I did near the end of the game. That another one of these side quests that has no bearing on the story of the game, but it's just so damn creative and silly.
Starting point is 00:56:55 And I'm laughing the whole time. I'm like, this is so fucking like I don't want to say it's fucking dumb it's not it's just like how silly that a side quest like this can exist in a game where I am inception going to the ceiling running on the ceiling
Starting point is 00:57:10 jumping and then teleporting to that you know building over there and I'm throwing rocks and I'm fucking doing all this Jedi force shit and then there could be something as goofy as this and it's the game is filled with goofy moment there is another side quest that I'm like trying to get to the bottom of or I'm like
Starting point is 00:57:26 I don't know where to find the last thing. Yeah, I keep hearing you talk about this. Yeah, yeah. And it's another one of those cool-ass side missions that is a chain of different side missions, of side missions, and it progresses. And when you're in there, again, going back to the, you're never just, kill 10 of these and come back and report back.
Starting point is 00:57:47 Kill 10 of these and get their whatever parts. It's another one of those where it's like, it has so much variety in how you're going about completing these side missions. And it's just really creative. I also want to shout out the heart. Like the Control One I remember really liking in one of the things I liked most about it. I think the thing that made Control 1 for me was the weirdness of the Federal Bureau of Control and the oldest house and learning about how, oh, we can't allow pencils in here because pencils be going crazy and objects of power. This game, I think, had me more engaged with both those weird side things, those cool pickups, the logs, the, you know, weird stories they introduce, but also the core story.
Starting point is 00:58:28 here has a surprising amount of emotional depth. And even though earlier I said Dylan as a character for me was kind of dull, his relationship with other characters, his relationship with Jesse as his sister, all this stuff toward the end had me like, oh man, I'm really connecting with this right now. Like there's something about this that's really working for me. So I don't want to, I don't want to get that part to get lost as well with all the compliments we're throwing at this. What I don't want to get lost, of course, is Gondor's Condor, Super Chat.
Starting point is 00:58:56 How is the technical performance on console? You played bass and pro. Yeah, so I kept going back and forth between base PS5 because here at my desk I work, I have a base PS5 at home in the living room, I have a pro, and then in my room at home, I also have a base. So I was going back and forth between the three.
Starting point is 00:59:13 PS5 Pro runs immaculately. Looks incredible, especially for the moments where the game's delivering these visual spectacles, those parts really shine on pro. Like the colors pop, I'm playing on my OLED TV that I have. That's really good. It's really fun.
Starting point is 00:59:27 It's got an OLED TV. This got a NOLET TV. Really nice. No big. B series, yeah. PS5 bass runs well enough. There were some moments where a lot of shit was happening on screen where I noticed some slowdown, but it was never a big hindrance and it was never that common, but it did happen
Starting point is 00:59:41 sometimes. Fair enough. I don't know if, I don't want you to answer this question, but I would read it because they pay. James and Peter says, okay, the real question, do we, do we at least get music from the old gods of Asgard? And I don't want to know. I wouldn't say anything.
Starting point is 00:59:54 I don't want to hear anything about that. Remedy always does amazing stuff with music. so let's not worry about that one. Pickle joystick 30 yet says, I can't get in, I couldn't get into the first one. Maybe I wasn't in the right mood for it at the time. Is this game good enough for me
Starting point is 01:00:07 without contacts slash fondness of the first and not play Alan, and I haven't played Alan Wakes? Yes, I know I should give them a go. I think this game is, I think you could easily play this and have an amazing time and then get interested in the Remedyverse. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:00:24 I think it's maybe the most digestible, because it's a formula that a lot of people are aware of and it's going to really surprise you in so many different moments but more than anything it's it doesn't have, it didn't have that frustration of trying to get around the oldest house
Starting point is 01:00:43 for me. Like there may have been a couple moments where I'm like, what am I not saying? Oh, that path leads to the, there's maybe a handful, but like, playing control, I had a lot more moments of like, fuck, I need a map. Another gamescast game tip, which is one that you gave to me
Starting point is 01:01:02 during our playthrough that is worth saying, read the log if you're stuck. If you're doing the main missions and you're like, what the fuck do I need to do? Open your quest log and read what it says. Just read. Sometimes it'll tell you something there. It's like, oh, okay, that points be the right direction.
Starting point is 01:01:19 I didn't realize that that's what we were doing here. Yeah, I ran around for about 30 minutes. And I was like, I can't find, what am I doing? and I tried cheesing the game by jumping to a spot that I wasn't supposed to be in like, and I had gotten there because I like maximized all of my jumps and my floatations because it's a reversal in this game is freaking phenomenal.
Starting point is 01:01:36 And I get there and it's a dev wall and it blocks me. I was there. I was attacking in midair to give myself extra length, but it didn't work. But yeah, so I was lost for about 30 minutes and I just opened the log and it says,
Starting point is 01:01:50 you are looking for blank, blank, blank. Zoe says you should check this out first though. And I'm like, I'm stupid as well. Just read, Andy. Just read. You know, it's sometimes all it takes. Currently working Super Chastin says, how much should I fear spoilers if I wait to play? Um, I don't think, I think you'll be fine.
Starting point is 01:02:09 I think you'll be okay. If people are spoiling this game, then they're weird. Like, it's not a game that's easily spoilable in terms of, like, big events that happened. And, yeah, I, you know, with Control 1 and Ashtray Mays, like, that was a long time before people were openly talking about that. Same thing with Al Wake 2 and some of the crazy stuff. But they also, they need to be experienced to even like, you could just tell somebody on the service, yeah, music plays where you're going through this section.
Starting point is 01:02:33 Yeah, yeah, yeah. And that's just like, okay, that's a video game. But then you experience it. You're like, whoa, holy shit. This is completely different than what I expected. Yeah, there's so many trippy things. Like, bless at one point texting me. And he was like, man, this one section is really chiv me out.
Starting point is 01:02:46 I was like, dude, me too, because this and this happened. And I was like, wait, am I fucking? Am I being messed with? Yeah. there's a lot of like really cool moments like that that are super memorable. This would be a fun one to do a spoiler cast about at some point. Like it'd be cool to get more people at the company
Starting point is 01:03:02 to play the game, Greg, you know? Yeah, Greg. Don't do that. We can't all play the same game where there's no reviews on Monday. What do you want me to do? There's just so many psychics that I want to talk about. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:03:14 There are like, I mean, there's a lot of amazing story beats, period. Sure. That are like in the main story. But there's just so many random things that I would never, I want people to experience it for themselves. And it's just so cool. It kind of reminds me of yesterday's Don Walker, spoiler cast, where it's like, I can finally talk in this, like, spoiler free,
Starting point is 01:03:34 but like, spoiler full zone and without having worry about it. The part that you were talking about slightly earlier, I was texting you on like this to trip me out, that is one that I would love to talk about because come smileys, it could be a nominee for if we do like a moment of the year for me or a quest of the year. Like, I think the rioting around that specific quest is so interesting and so good, and there are so many moments. And that's one that it's not even a, an ash tray maze.
Starting point is 01:04:04 You know what I mean? It's not like, it's not that. It's just a quest that is, oh, shit, all right, this is interesting. And then they take it all the way to where they can with the, with the rioting and how they present it. Smiley's going to have like just, we should just have control moments. Control moment. Because it would dominate the category for me. Well, hell yeah, guys.
Starting point is 01:04:22 So easily my game of the year, man. This is like, but again, don't get your expectations too high. I don't want you to be disappointed, but it's like, I mean, you know how much I love remedy. I was already like, you know, okay, cool, I want to try it. But now I'm like, damn, I wish I wasn't on the next three reviews I wanted to get to it. Now that we're winding down, can I ask you a question? Yeah. And I had this a question.
Starting point is 01:04:39 Let me ask you a question. Let me ask you something. Spider-Man. Toward the end of the game, I was, there was like an MPC that was randomly like, set a sentence of like, you know, God help us. or like, I pray to God, this works. And I had the thought of, if I lived in this world, would I believe in God less or more?
Starting point is 01:05:02 And I kept thinking about that, because I'm like, what do you mean God? God helps. Yeah. Because for me, I'm like... The buildings are on their side. Everything's fucked, bro. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:05:11 But also, as I thought about it, I was like, well, I guess if shit is that weird, maybe I do believe it. Wouldn't that be pretty? Yeah, I mean, that's the thing, right? Yeah. You're so right. because although we're having
Starting point is 01:05:22 like what is God if not another interdimensional being yeah honestly and that's what I love about this game is that that piece of side just MPC dialogue had me sitting there just thinking about the nature of this world yeah what I would do if I was in this world
Starting point is 01:05:36 and I was like you know what this is a good game I will say there's also like a bit of for a little bit of criticism from me there's one story beat that's like I wish they made things a bit less obvious with like there's a couple like it's really just one where I'm like ah man I wish you didn't
Starting point is 01:05:53 hint at that too much because I would have loved that to be a reveal pop yeah okay but goddamn like I came away from that preview event thinking this is going to be a solid eight I'm going to go man these visuals are of course incredible they're doing some weird shit with
Starting point is 01:06:11 walking on the ceilings and walking on the walls but it kind of just feels like well what if we just kind of open world version this and I don't know I just wasn't the most high on that preview and I could not have had my
Starting point is 01:06:27 expectations like more surpassed everything flipped around for me for me this is a game that if everything came together perfectly this should be a 10 out of 10 game I didn't even I'd have like a list of complaints that I didn't get to because I want to make sure people know this is a 9 out of 10 amazing game there's so much good stuff we can talk about
Starting point is 01:06:44 but like there's random shit we talked about projectiles hitting you from off screen there I think the flying enemies kind of are kind of suck to fight sometimes. Like, it feels like it wants to be Spired Man a little bit in those moments
Starting point is 01:06:54 but it doesn't have the ability set to make you like zip to those enemies in air. I think the lock on in the camera don't get along all the time. Like there's random shit
Starting point is 01:07:03 I can talk about as far as the list of things but overall, damn. Never locked on. Don't. Honestly, don't. Another game's guys, game tips,
Starting point is 01:07:12 game step, just yeah, fuck it on the lock on. Yeah, you're going to be running around a lot avoiding things constantly. So, yeah, just avoid that shit.
Starting point is 01:07:23 Man, it's so cool. Man, when they drop, like, when the mold enemies drop, like, toxic fucking puddles and clouds and you use your fire ability and it creates, like, gigantic explosion because all the toxic gas is getting you. Oh, what a great feeling to just see everybody go up, like, engulfed in playing. It's got, like, that level of cool shit. And I, just really quickly, going back to the combat of it, I can't imagine being a remedy employee listening to me saying that like, yeah, Mike, it's a combat's a bit repetitive, right?
Starting point is 01:07:51 I think they just took the wrong path with it because they, you have so many things to use. But those things are very, like, one note. Yes. I would have legitimately preferred, pair it down and focus in. You have four weapons that you could use. And we're going to make them
Starting point is 01:08:10 interplay and combo with each other in really fun, fascinating ways. But there are like, you know, six secondary weapons. or combo finishers or whatever. There are three secondary weapons. There are three primary weapons. There are specials on top of that.
Starting point is 01:08:31 And it's like, I wish there was just a bit, let's make this not a mile wide and an inch deep. And not even that it's an inch deep, it's like, it's pretty fun, but it's six feet deep. I think for a game that lasts up to like 30 to 40 to 45 hours, it does get a bit tough when you're 30 hours in and I'm doing the same combo over and over again because it is what works. Like the way I'll describe it is if they gave you a cookbook filled with different recipes
Starting point is 01:08:55 and they went, all right, now choose one and you're cooking this over and over again. And I'm like, oh, well, it's like, well, if you want it, you can go back and retool and now you can cook this other thing, but you're going to be stuck cooking that. And it's like, well, there's so much in this cookbook. How do we? Let me touch it all. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:09:10 How do I turn this to a buffet a little bit in real time? What if I held the light attack on the second hit instead of? just tapping it and that then projected or launched them in the air or if that created a, I just wanted more interplay between all of the different abilities but it is like, it's still pretty damn deep. I just wanted it, you know,
Starting point is 01:09:32 let's be a bit more concise with it. Hell yeah, boys. Fuck this game rock. It's so good. Andy with a 95, bless with a 90, we thank you for your service. Of course everybody. Look for a spoiler cast soon. I've penciled it in for the 29th. It would just be you two obviously because I don't think I'll I'm still on multiple reviews before then.
Starting point is 01:09:50 Because I'm guessing. Exactly. That's my thought. I don't want to wait until fucking November or whatever. What's Lucy and Tam up to? Lucy and Tam are both being British last I heard. Oh. Did Tam play this one?
Starting point is 01:10:00 Yeah, you reviewed it for GameSpot. Oh, great. Okay. Michael Hyam also played it. No? We don't like them. I mean, I like him. He's about real baby.
Starting point is 01:10:06 I gotta like him. I just booked him the other day for a different review, but I'll talk about that. Later, we love both those people. We'll get him in.
