I'm one of your host, Greg Miller, alongside the Master of Hives. Greg Miller, what up? Thanks for having me on today's Gamescast Plays. I'm happy to be here. Now this is different.

Lain-Amscast plays, as we envisioned it. Yes. In editorial product, where you come into something you've been reviewing, you show it to someone, you go, hey, look at this thing that I have been doing that I've been playing. Ask me all the questions. Let's dive a little bit deeper. Let me give you the details that you want to know about about this product. I didn't play the game yet.

We're diving into a vowed everybody, okay? You might say, Greg, what do you mean you haven't played this? And I'd say, you know what, you're right. I've played the shit out of him. Oh, he got me. time one day seven hours, 32 minutes. Wow. But this is a save from nearly exactly a year ago.

All right, look at that. One year ago. February 11th, 2025 are these saves. Of course, the reason we're here is because they've just put out the Avowed anniversary update. Dropped yesterday. A whole much of new stuff, Mike. And so it was like, well, I could jump in last night and do some stuff. Yeah.

Or we could jump in together and screw around and see what's up. Because I liked Avowed. I did not love Avowed back in the day when we reviewed this one a year ago, right? Give me some really quick. Give me some positives and negatives and negatives of what you like to do. Positives, combat, amazing. Such good combat. But the problem is I was boring.

I did sort of bored the entire way. I had a cool powerful story. I did that. Like people are doing wizard stuff and guns. You can have the wand and the gun. There was all much of cool permutations I just didn't do. And I felt like I let myself down there. I think the environments are cool.

You know what I mean? Like lots of stuff going on there. I didn't like my companions, you know? I didn't connect with the companions. I didn't connect with the character I made. And so I was like, damn, didn't get the whole bite of the apple here. Maybe a D.L.C. will come me back one day or whatever. That didn't happen.

Instead it was, hey, we're doing this big anniversary update, all right? And I said, I'll wait and I'll come back then. And so what you have with the anniversary update is new playable species, which is cool, right? You got dwarves, Orleans, and ow-mow-mow-mow-ow- I don't know. you know what I mean, towering, powerfully built, and physically imposing. They're people from the game that I barely remember. Oh, okay, nice.

Then of course they come with their own stuff. You have a new game plus, which on paper excited as somebody who's beaten about. But the problem is, new game plus is now available after the completely main story. The mode is designed to reward mastery, experimentation, and making the all-powerful build. I'm not about-

Right. Yeah, but no, I want to re-roll the character and do all the stuff. And so it's like, number one, all the unlocked abilities come over, and it's like, well, I don't want to be that character anymore. You know what I mean?

I want to go do a new thing. You just want to restart that at that point. Exactly. And that's what I think I want to do. So there's a bunch of quality of life improvements they've put in here. There's custom difficulty modifiers, which I know well from Starfield. Shout out to Todd Howard who just did the game scass, right? And so I thought rather than even start a new game plus, maybe I jump in and make a new character.

I like that. Okay. But we can show off the three new races. So that's awesome. And, you know, you brought up redoing a valid, right? I got to give it to the team over at the Bensidian. It feels like they've had three, like, moments with a vowed now. The initial launch, then a vowed 2.0, now a vowed 3.0.

I think that's when they did, like, an overhaul on a lot of the combat system. Yeah, I feel like they've had an avowed 2.0, so here we are now. Now, is this on PS5? Today is on PS5, yes, yes. But I left myself open, where I was like, if I do want to make the new game plus character, I need to be playing. I am playing on a spars. but our goddess has lately turned her eyes from us,

and our empire has suffered. The foes, you know what I mean? I love this kind of stuff. Yeah, you like the challenge. You're like that. Challenging to write for rule. You of course remember that you are an ongoing, you are a godlike.

You have hideous features that people will talk about. You are sent out into the living land to find out of the scourge. I always thought there was cute flowers on my face. No. I never looked at it as idiocy. I hate them. I turned them off on my first place.

I was like, I don't want to see these on my care. The more we free this place from danger, the more the land. Yeah, how far did you get in about? Not far at all. Okay. Yeah, this is one. I have fallen off the Obsidian RPG train. I am very much an obsidian fan when it comes to the

local penitments and grounded, kind of their small passion projects. And like, the survival captain is right up my alley. You would think that I would love these. Yeah. As a kid who loves the open world Western RPGs, Bethesda games, Fallout New World. Vegas, I should love these. I just have not jumped into these at all

and given them the full love. I fell off hard on Outer Worlds One. Put a little sour taste in my mouth. Didn't love it, and so I haven't gone back. But I've heard positive about... Adults too, yeah, very fun little nerdy RPG. Maybe one day. I'm going to skip all this. We're in it for the character

group right now. Now... I want to see these new species. Yeah, right. Look on them, there's your elves. Then you go over here. This is why talking about the Al-Mawau. Okay, a Mauw. We got the big guys, who, you know, famed. Oh, they're like, I was calling them the fish people.

Yeah, exactly. Because of the scale. That's what we all called. Okay, yeah, yeah. People are stoked about the dwarves, I know. Fish and dwarfs. And people are stoked about Orleans. Oh, the gremlins.

Oh, like that little sex gremlin in this game. Hell yeah. Or you never played this. I never saw the sex gremlin, no. Yeah, you hit up a really horny one of these later. Really? She joins your party. She's cool.

Oh, that's cool. Okay, yeah, yeah. But I feel like we have to be a dwarf and we have to name That's a great call. You know what I mean? Well, hold up, hold up. You don't think Nick would be a sex gremlin? Well, he would, but he's, I want him to be small.

Oh, the gremlin's a tall. If we were casting everybody, well, I mean, I think Nick's the dwarf, obviously, because he's so tiny, and he would be the sex gremlin. You know what I mean? You got that hair. He'd be really happy to hear that. Yeah.

Gotta give Nick that olive complexion. It's too far. I want to say that's pretty olive-y, for you know? Yeah. He's not that, you know what I mean? You are the character creator, I'm. I love that you always dive deep into the video. Well, I am, but, you know, I'm not gonna waste a life.

Yeah, I'm a randomized type of your bonus. Just hit the randomize, just running back a couple times. We gotta, oh, geez, it's just hideous. You know what I mean? Go for the full one. I'm with the people. Well, then what was the point of me? Well, I guess we could do that in, here.

Why don't it make them look like a clicker? Oh shit. Nick Scarpino the clicker. Disgusting. I hate it. I can't tell you, like it literally does something, like it's like nails on a chalkboard looking at these hideous fucking freaks. This is the one I had done.

on my first place. Yeah, big old wood mask on it. Yeah, but I eventually hit it. I was like, I can't deal with this at all. But I do like, you know, to save us time, just give Nick that. Okay, yeah, yeah, go crazy. And then hopefully we'll go right here.

We gotta get him in the hair. Has none. Does this excite you to go with another play-through of a Vald? You know? Like, right this moment. I'll tell you right, a great question. I think that's, you know, Gamescast plays, is our editorial product, obviously,

But it's a no but right now I'm like I don't feel like I need to go play more about yes but I'm glad it's updated and so maybe today is the thing where I play it and I go you know what dang this has the stuff and I need to go see this I need to see this through and of course like you said day one for PlayStation so this is gonna be a whole new crop of people jumping into playing conversation

Yeah, yeah, not a lot of pressure on that. Born to humble beginnings and driven to desperation by famine, your life was destined to end on the executioner's block until the emperor spared you. Your skills are put to work. He's a dwarf? Yeah, of course. Of course. What am I doing here? You know what I mean? This is the first time I've made Nick in a character? Not that chance.

So here's what we get in. Andy, what about you? Mike never got into this one. You and me were big on a vibe going through and playing a whole bunch of stuff. Does this anniversary update do anything for you? Dude, I must have been maybe four to five hours from beating it.

Oh, wow. You never beat it? Wow. No, I never beat it. I put like 30, 40 hours. I put a lot of hours in. It's one of those where I am so packed to the brim,

filled to the brim with gaming experiences. that I'll have to wait on public sentiment. Okay. I'll have to wait to see what people are overall saying. And whether those people had the same issues I had, and then they go, hey, a lot of the issues that I had with it, it's fixed. Oh, cool, because I was coming from the same place, you know,

when it comes to the narrative and just characters. And did you guys make Nick the dwarf the first time you streamed this? I mean, probably. I believe we did. Because this was one of the- Well, no, there wasn't a dwarf before. Oh, you're right, you're right. This is one that Nick streamed like three times and he really liked it But we got up started with the magic

Spells were really cool. Yeah, see I want to do guns I think this time This game's cool. We made you. We made you in the game Well, you're not on the screen right now. Yeah, open custody. That's you. Yeah, that's you. Of course, it's a very flattering rendition of you. It just like me He's probably, he's probably, he's probably, a lot of hair. Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, for sure, for sure. I don't know if we get a full glimpse at you.

I mean, I'll go to, yeah, when I get in here. Go into photo mode, maybe? Yeah, photo mode a brand new addition to the anniversary update as well. Oh, really? Yeah. Nice. How do you do it? There it is, port-in-in-what, how about that?

Oh. Some of hair's not rendering up top, maybe that's a bug. Oh, is that a bug? Probably. It's probably an update. It's probably an issue. Rendering issues. It looked at...

Why is there one, like a... Why do you have the homer Zimsy? The George Costanza. You know what I mean? Yeah, yeah. That's weird. I didn't see it. Why is he, like, four foot five? He's a dwarf.

Door. He's a race. Oh. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He looks like a humanoid. He doesn't look like that. He's not proportion, Nick. That's weird.

Dude, it's gonna be a gunner. I don't know, I'll see, yeah, I mean, you know what I mean, yeah. At least the journey's not completely lost. But yeah, I don't know, it's why I want to get a, you get back into it. I remember, it's interesting to see this playing well, too. I remember when we were doing stuff early on, some of it was running a little rough. Were you on PC? I think I was, yeah.

At least that's where I did the preview of it originally. The name's Garrick, sir. Quarter gunner. Would you put Outer Worlds 2 above this or this above Outer Rules 2? Dude, I did not play enough Outer Worlds 2. But I could tell already, tonally, that I enjoyed narrative and characters more in our world. But big misopportunity with Garrick. We talked about this last time.

Yeah. I loved Garrett. Yeah, fun little guy. Immediately just like a cool, neat guy to get to know. And then he was just like, all right, see you later. I was like, oh, man, you're not joining me? You're not going to like. No one fires on the

in Avowed, that it would be totally for me, because everything else is hitting. Yeah, again, it's what I was talking to Mike before you got here, right? Like, the combat of Avowed is so good. The world is so good and colorful and nice, but yeah. Nick's just going to be a big old meathead here, right? He's not a black guy. He's going to mite his way through everything.

Those boards up there look old. A good hit, and we can be on our way. I'm just going to Google real quick what the Aoumaua look like. There's fish people. Oh. Garris, that isn't Gareth. Okay.

Yeah, I want a coffee? What up, Cool G. Cool G. Man. You know what I mean? We're partying out here today, Andy, you and me. We get to do games cast plays enough. You know what I'm gonna find a weapon.

I need a weapon. I need a weapon. And, you know what? I'll tell you what, that green screen has to get from home real long. Almost been fitting my car. It's one of the extra large Elgado ones. Yeah. And it's like...

Yeah. happened. You were supposed to be on this at the start. Yes. Yeah. As shout out to Roger who scheduled a text to say he was like, yeah, I'll schedule a text to remind you to get that green screen. I was like, no problem. Big Doc sounds great. Yep. Read the text. I was like, hell yeah, get that green screen, big dog. And then I got a two XL sweatshirt from Mike that he's been clamoring for along with the controller and that's the only thing that I brought. And about halfway down, I'm like, oh my God, forgot the big ass green screen. And then as I got it, I was like, I don't know if this whole fit.

This Honda Civic. Did you get hailed on last time? Yeah. It's crazy. Got hailed on this morning. Texted Jen, I'm like, I'm at 19th and Irving right now getting hailed on. Ahumaua. Howo ma'uwa.

No, that's not how you stole it. What are you going to do? I want to give you a shout out of Indy Cortez. As you know, a lot of people like to refer to me as kind of funny as joke. You know what I mean? What am I doing? Is this a bit? Should you be scared? X, Y and Z? But a lot of people don't want to acknowledge how awesome I am and how cool I am and how much industry knowledge. When does the shoutout happen for me?

We'll get there. Okay. Don't worry about it. Okay. On the PlayStation State of Play, I watched the entire way with you. And I said, Andy, there's something coming. Andy, there's something coming. And everybody was like, ah, Greg's just fucking around. Greg's just fucking around. Then John Wick happened. The thing I was teasing you with. And then at the end, Roger was like, Greg didn't even. would know anything and you were like, I think he met John Wick.

No, he definitely. And Roger, stupid Roger was like, ah, whatever. No, yeah, definitely. That's the one that I could tell, fucking Roger. He sucks. So aside from the new characters, there are new missions? No, huge bummer.

Yeah. Damn. To be clear. For real. They announced this about update, right? During chat, let me know. It was one of those many shows. that happened that isn't like, you know, a Game Awards or whatever, it's a showcase.

And it was like, they gave bits and, geez like, oh, yeah. And then when they finally came out and did it, it was like three new character classes, fuck yeah, new game plus, fuck yeah. And then you were, and then they were like, but there's no new story or anything. And it was like, oh, like, no, no, no, you can't. And it was like, oh, well, then that, like, immediately knocks me, not. Yeah, so that, I mean, that will, that kind of gives me all I need to know about, will I be coming back. Yeah, I think, yeah, I think, you know, I don't know if we're title, I, you know, I've been lucky enough just to run as a host on this, but if, you know, a lot of times these are, is it worth coming back for him?

Yeah. My initial reactionist, no. Yeah. That's what Mike said, you know, do you think you're going to take this character and it'll go, you know, you're going to stick with it? I'm like, I sincerely doubt it, but that's a good place for it to be. Because maybe I do come back and I'm like, man, I really missed this combat. I really did this. Yeah. But I think, what I do is like, I'm way more into the outer worlds two world.

As somebody who likes sci-fi more than fantasy. I still haven't finished that Stevie Rogers good guy play through so it's like I need to go do that at some point Sorry for the cops say no The force lit there to you apologize everyone I got more cough drops at my desk. I thought I had more went oh I have one in my pocket Hold on a little secret cough drop is it dude? We're at dice We're in the room all right? Were you already? Because you didn't quite even sound like this During the dice. Oh no no no Adrenaline.

Yeah. I mean, it's the thing is like, it's the classic thing where you always make fun of me, which I understand. But it's like, I'm not sick, but I have that like,

just this lingering thing Ben had that then gave it to me or whatever, so I just had occasionally. An aura, yeah, if you will. But, no, back to what you said,

secret cough drop. It's dice. By the way, it's not worth playing about it. It's dice. We're sitting there. We've been reunited because Jen came in early.

We're in the hotel room. She's chatting up with me. She looks over at the table and she goes, I love that you just have a, snick, you have a Twix. And I go, it's a secret snickers. Secret Snickers, yeah. What are you talking about? Every time Andy goes to the airport, he buys a

snickers and then just puts in his bag. And so I did it at the airport and totally forgot about it. I think a lot of also what I kind of downplay and need to understand is that secret Snickers also requires you to have ADHD and have an out of sight out of mind memory where if it's not in front of you don't you forgot you put a stick on no object permanence, you know, and until I get back to the hotel row up with the backpack. Oh, Snickers, you know.

Awesome, yeah. But a lot of normal people would have remembered that, you know? It's not so much that I forgot about it. It's just like, I bought, for me a secret snickers is something I'm buying and I'm like, I'm not hungry right now. Yeah, of course. But eventually, this is going to be very helpful to me. You know?

Hungry, why wait? Are you hungry? Why wait? Snickers? I've heard it once I've heard a thousand times. Man, Nick just looking like someone hit him in the eyes of the shotgun. You know? The God likes it.

features horrifying. Yeah. Just horrible. Why would I ever look at mine? You would. I had just like the little kind of like eyebrows. I hate, they're all so gross.

Mine were kind of sexy. I think mine were sexy. You play as a lady? You plays as me? Just a dude. I was a hot dude. Yeah. I knew a hot dude.

Now I'll tell you what's a good, I'll tell you what's a good game work going back to Witcher 3. Oh my God. Oh my God. I'm loving that you're so into it. Oh my God. Because that's something that really paid off for you.

I want to jump in here to see what I got in and all this stuff. Of like, yeah, I like The Witcher and, yeah, how many hours are you know? 40, probably. So you surpassed me now because I was like 25 or 35, I forget. And so to see you go in, like, when I was, popped in, I was watching you do a bloody Baron. I'm like, yeah, he's smart. Oh, I reset the game. I hate that shit.

Unfortunate. And he almost caught out of work, Greg. That's true. I almost called in and said a meteor hit my helm. Okay. come to work. Fair enough. Yeah.

Really into the Witcher right down. My godlike changed the setting so he looked normal. Oh, you could do that, but that's the point. And like I said, I did that, uh, I did that one in my last play-thru, where I put him on my character. And I guess I didn't. I put the big wood mask on my character. And I was like, that'll be good enough.

And I hated that, because then I got no expression on my eyes. Like, you know, I want to see Nick's dumb eyes. Yeah. And then the, the sort of immersion breaking thing of if you prefer to have it off then it's like oh look at this freak and it's like well I just look like a normal yeah look at this smoothness you know I was I made a mistake you're right I'm sorry I didn't I didn't realize what I was doing until I was like wait this hurts my eyes come on the fourths up ahead I feel like

playing through which or three currently would make it hard for you to get back into this game and he would be compared so much of the storytelling and character writing that that is which of three's awesome that is true yeah You're supposed to disarm that? I think you just ran through the trap already. Yeah, I'm getting my... Yeah, you're right, you're right. How good that slide felt, too.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. There's a run in a slide and reanimal. Oh, yeah, did you have fun with that? That was a cool game. Yeah. A lot of themes. Did you guys finish it? A lot of things.

Yeah, we did finish it. One of those, like, endings that, like... You know, it's up to the user's interpretation. It's crazy. It's all out there. A lot of weird things going on. How did you feel about that? Because I hate that shit.

Well, I mean, I paid you to tell me a story. Well, you know, it is one of those very heady, you know, like the comparison I would always make when you were doing Ghibli in review where the thematic storytelling was just so deep. It's like, I need to know Hayal Miyazaki in a personal level to know what the hell is happening to understand like,

oh, that bird represents loss or whatever the fuck. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But it was just, it was just so out there and there were a lot of different things being thrown at you that I did not fully, and also doesn't help that, you know, I'm streaming with Mike and we're, you know, talking about, talking about, you know, talking about it. Clowning around. Talking shit, most of the time. But it was a good time. It was still really cool and visually stunning and... What's that on their face?

You're sure on my face. Yeah. Wait, what's on your face? Oh shit, I haven't over my eyes! Wait a second. Had a glare in my eyes. I remember some of the soldiers praying around that I drew pillar. Ah, shit.

I can't believe that that was on the name and obsidian IP. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Kind of feuding. Was really shocked about that. Got to have it? Yeah. Like, for everybody who was like, Andy, you should have taken the final round of game showdown. Instead of Mike, it's like, no.

He had pillars of eternity. I was going to say penamid. Penamette was on the list. Panamette would have been what I would have to do. A lot of fucked up shit in that game. Soldiers killing the subject. That was crazy. Which one, pediment? No, um, um, re-enum. Preedens, the base says, I finally hopped into Indiana Jones DLC and it's been great. I love how well machine games got that Indiana Jones vibe down.

I thought you should have scored better. You know what I mean? Damn. This is the industry's chance to make it right. Maybe you should have scored better. Or, this is a DLC. Ah. I scored the game correctly. Oh. And everybody else wanted to act like the game was the best thing ever. And so then it was like, well, okay, now I scored the DLC the same way.

And everybody's like, you know what, on second thought. Is this referencing fantasy critic? Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Took it as a bit. I was like, oh, everybody says I'm wrong about Indiana Jones. Clearly the DLC's gonna be great, not a chance. You know what I mean? Mm-hmm.

There's some generally gorgeous parts of this game. 100%. Oh, dude, yeah, 100% Christopher. This game is stunning. And so, like, the things that kept me going in this game, even though I wasn't vibing with a lot of what was happening narratively were the visuals and the movement and the combat and like having this game with ray tracing on getting all like cashed out this looks great now too yeah this looks awesome yeah no gorgeous gorgeous game now are you gonna do something

different here with this first lady you meet you know yeah yeah because i definitely hooked helped her out oh yeah yeah that i had a moment yesterday offstream playing the witcher three there's this random dude who just wants to duel you a whole bunch. Walks up to you and he's like, I'm going to fight to you. And you're like, they get away from me. And he's like, no, till me now. And you destroy him immediately.

He's like, I yield, I yield. I'll come back for you. I'll get better. And he comes back and he comes back again. You find him in different spots. And he keeps on giving up. And it's like, I'm going to come back. Several hours go by.

Well, I came across him last night. I was playing on my Steam deck with that G-force now. Oh. And he brought like two dudes. And he was like, we're gonna beat your ass and this and that. And then one of the options was using my force powers, you should leave. And the other power was, or the other option was,

no, all right, I'll fight you and I'll beat their asses too. And ended up just chopping them all up and killing them. And I felt really bad about it. I was like, this guy just in over his head. He doesn't know what he's doing. And so I reloaded it. I reloaded the save and I was like, I just gave him the force. Go right.

Those Jedi powers do not work on Tories. In signs? Glicks? Yeah. Yeah, I think you had it, right? But I forget what that one was. Sure. Igne is the fire one.

No, Ax is the force push. I always did appreciate what felt to me like a, late turn to give you third person. Like a sort of later in development thing because it never, it still never fully looked 100% right. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But, like, still a really neat thing to give players, because I don't think it was always meant to be there.

The best games? Yeah. I'm shocked at how good it looks in how old's team. Again, which is always so funny to play the same developer game, you know, game A, game B. Talk about game A, you want game B. And not even shit. If you've never played a vowed, a vowed's worth of your time, especially on Xbox. No, it is.

And I was about to be like, whoa, they're adding building to this game, no way. But then the next video later showed off like interior decorating a house. Like, rotate the chair this way. You know, put your little like sink, yeah. Kind of, they have kind of like a, like a little base or town kind of build out where you could, it's insane, the amount of things going on in that game.

Will they be able to, nail half of them, who knows? Yeah. But everything you're seeing so far looks so freaking crazy. And I think it will be one of those games that really pops off because of how, like, deep everything goes when we're talking about, you know, the way, the way Jackets Dogma kind of popped off here and there with like, you're fighting a Griffin and now you just climb on it and it's flying your way. It's like, well, there's a lot of random shit that can happen. I think it'll, I think it'll do really well in those aspects. This is one of the few times, and again, I didn't like a bad story.

This is one of the few times in a game where like, I'm doing the role-playing thing, very lightly. You know what I mean? I'm making my... And I got so fucking annoyed by this voice.
