Yo, what's up?
Welcome to Kind of Funny Gamescast for Monday, July 20th, 2026.
I'm on your host, Blessing at AOA Jr.
Join me is the Nitro Rifle, Andy Cortez.
Good morning, blessing.
Good morning, Andy.
How's it going?
Viva, Spainia.
Viva, Spain.
I was having a lot of fun with a lot of friends over DMs
who are all of Mexican descent like me,
and they're like, damn it, we're really rooting for
the colonized in this one because
I saw a lot of people
I saw a lot of that going around.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
You know, they have to vote for the lesser
two evils.
It was a good match.
Great match.
I only learned
on Saturday during the third place match
that they have the World Cup on Peacock.
So I could have been watching it legally
this entire Spanish.
Oh, wow.
But it's only in Spanish.
Oh, better.
Yeah, and I was like, I'll just watch it in Spanish.
Who cares?
I should have been watching it in Spanish
this entire time.
Yeah.
I've heard the American broadcasts is not being great.
It's the dub versus sub thing.
Yeah.
I'm like, oh, this shit is so much more hype to this man.
I have no idea what they're saying, but I get every word.
All that said, shout out to Fubo TV.
Fubo!
Ben wanted to watch this thing yesterday.
I was looking around where I could stream or what were my options, yada, yada, yada,
because I don't have cable or TV in general.
It was like, all right, Fubo seems like the best option.
And like, it's got a free trial.
Open it up.
It had no free trial.
And I was like, God, this kid is really hung up on.
wanted to watch this. We had made like a snack thing. And I was like, you know what? I used to pay
60 bucks for wrestling pay per views. I'll pay 60 bucks for the month of Fubo. Maybe I'll
like it. Maybe whatever. Did it. Watched it. Everything ran seamlessly great. 4K. I was really happy.
And then at the end I was like, all time to cancel and get charged another month.
Went in there and cancel and they're like, hey, if you want, we'll refund to you.
And I said, thank you so much. And I like cancel refunding. Wow. Nice job, Fubbo.
If I ever do need that much sports off, you all come to you, Fubo. Terrible me.
That's crazy. Also.
That voice you hear right there is our patient for today, the one and only Greg Miller.
Hi, how are you?
Feeling well, how you doing, Greg?
I don't know. Are you ready to get vulnerable today?
I guess. I don't know, man. We fixed me, I thought. We came in here with the JRP thing. Bam.
Are you good to go? I liked Octobat Traveler Zero, game of the year.
Sure. Are you going to go back to Claire scare?
No, no. Oh, you're not fixed. No. You're not fixing at all.
Of course, today's episode is going to be video game therapy. We're going to talk a lot about Greg Miller.
what ails you today.
Of course, if you're watching live,
you can be a part of the show
by super chatting in
over on YouTube.com slash
kind of funny games.
Remember, we couldn't do this
with our producers
over on patreon.com slash kind of funny.
So thank you to Carl Jacobs,
Omega Buster, Delaney,
the Somme, Twining, and Lax Nomad.
For now, let's begin
with topic of the show.
Video game therapy,
aka fixing Greg Miller.
Nothing to fix.
This comes from a conversation that we had the other week.
It was me and you on Games Daily.
And you would mention something that intrigued me.
Sure.
You talked about not enjoying friend slop,
but in talking about it,
it seemed like it was coming from a place of a lack of progression,
a lack of getting anything out of it,
to which I asked you why is fun not enough.
Yeah.
And we wanted to approach, like, getting a little bit deeper into that,
but then we're like, we got a KFD to record.
We don't have time to get into it.
But then Roger during our meeting was like,
that sounds like a full episode.
We should do a video game therapy thing
where each of us, we're starting with Greg
for today.
I'll be the guinea pig.
There's nothing wrong with me though.
Nothing wrong me either.
Really it is, Greg is the,
the episode to guinea pig this on
because like, I feel like there's so much
that you hold in, Greg.
That's true.
That we can get into, right?
And so I asked you three questions.
I'm your Atlas.
I'm holding up the whole world here for you.
I ask you, what's bugging you currently?
What do you want to fix about your gaming habits?
and what is your gaming insecurity?
If you're watching live right now on YouTube,
if you want to super chat in with your video game therapy questions
or if you have advice for Greg, feel free,
Super Chat in, we'll read those.
But Greg, let's start with what's bugging you currently.
Bug, bug, bug, bug, bug, bug, bug, buck, buck, buck, okay.
I mean, I don't like Friends Slop, we'll start there.
Let's start right off, you know, right off the rip with what's going on.
It's to the point.
Oh, boy.
It's to the point that while, and I,
We can get it.
We'll get into it.
Okay.
But while playing RV there yet the other day on stream with everybody.
And having laughs and having fun,
I was like drafting in my head the message to Roger and Mike of being like,
you got to stop putting me on this.
Like,
I'll do whatever this company needs.
I'm a team player.
So if I got to play it,
I'll play it.
But it's just like I'm playing these games that are good and that I'm laughing and
enjoying fine.
But I don't think of myself as a good streamer.
We all have our different like, you know,
our max settings
when you look at our
our pie charts
and our things
and our little scales
of like our player card
and like streaming a game
I don't think I'm good at
and especially
We should build our player cards
Right
Especially streaming a game
Where it's like
Oh the shenanigans and the thing
Because I'm annoyed
When the fucking car
Let me see over the dashboard
I understand that you made me a small guy
Didn't that's the whole game
Or whatever
But like that little bit of annoyance
And I'm clipping the tree
I'm like that's fucking pissing me off a bit
But I get that's what it is
But I get it
But it's like I think I sit down on my like when I was thinking of drafting the message to Mike and Roger of like, hey, if you need me, I'm there for you.
But if I literally if it comes down to well, we could do a friend slop game and Greg has to be on it or Greg could just stream a single player game by himself.
I'm like, give me a single player game by me.
You know what I mean?
It doesn't need even be Diablo or something.
Just let me jump in and do whatever I, you know what I mean?
Like I'd rather play something from my backlog because that's another thing too of like it's, I'm getting into the therapy chair now.
That'll come up with some of your questions here, right, of what's going on.
it's like that quest for content of doing more when I'm playing something I want to be doing
something for the company and I want to be doing what I need I have my to do's and the things
I want to accomplish and yet a idiot yet in a day and so when I get pulled from any of my projects
whether they be a review or just a game I want to play and I'm sat down to drive this fucking RV
and I was I think I parked myself in the driver's seat I'm like I'm not getting shit I'm not
fixing shit that's everybody else's job all right I'm going to drive the fucking car I'll do that
for y'all okay otherwise I'm going to bring the bear to you I
did notice that once
once there was
you know this I'm just talking a blessing right here
yeah and you're over hearing this
once there was the slightest amount
of pushback from us of like
stop winching the truck
to the trees when we're trying to drive
away you keep on winching it
to different items
and it's annoying because we can't get
the once there was the slightest amount of pushback
I felt Greg go
I'm just driving now
I don't
you guys are in
By this amount of shenanigans, no more shenanigans for anybody.
I was like, you know what? Fair.
There was enough pushback there.
You test the waters.
I'm out there.
I'm trying to see what the vibe is for the game.
We're playing the show.
You know, we were throwing each other around.
Didn't realize it was going to hurt us.
Didn't realize it wasn't going to.
Broke a lot of legs.
Broke a lot of legs.
I thought I was in the lobby.
It was actually in the game.
We had to restart the game.
So like, there was that was a good, hey,
here are the electrical fences don't touch them.
And so, yeah, when we got in there,
some other shenanigans with the witches.
People weren't having.
I'm like, all this drive.
because you're calling out friend slop specifically of course we all hate the term i know i apologize
for using the term friend slop i just don't have a better term yet friend like when we say it you know
what it means you know what we're talking about we're talking about we're talking about we're talking about
hang beasts hang beast but then there's a supertahe here kebab says they like that gregg loved
overcooked that's friend slop adjacent and i want to talk about because like what's the difference
between something like overcooked which is a co-op game hanging our friends you're working together
to achieve a common goal sure what separates the game like peak or
RV there yet for you?
I think it would be in the similar vein of
why I'm drawn to video games in general
and it's accomplishing something.
Overcooked is can you get three stars on this?
Can you set a high score?
Can you beat the other person?
RV there yet is can you drive this fucking RV
until the stream's over.
Yeah.
I guess I can't.
Like I know we're never going to reach the end.
Even peak, which like when we did it
in the rainforest games, right?
Where it was like, I actually made it
to the first peak and then you get another peak.
like, all right, cool, but
like this wasn't like,
it didn't matter.
These games, these games don't, these
friends slop games don't matter if you
finish the task or not, I feel like.
Because the reward is the time you spend
other people. And I just don't want that reward with
other people. I do, but like I want to spend time
with y'all where it would be that we are
playing the division.
Yeah.
Playing a progression game. You want to leave and
be like, I did something. Yeah. I can look
back on my progress and go, oh, if I want to play
more of that. Jan and I have started to
introducing video games to date night where I was like we need to start playing games to get again
what did I do no I just imagine like you know video games to spice things up yeah yeah oh man
this this relationship is dead this marriage is oh no uh so like we've been trying out a bunch
that we started up an intraded game and we've been running that way I got V rising loaded up
because I want to go do that I'm very into tears of metal uh the idea of it you know the new
paper call paper call yeah we've done the demo or whatever we see there yeah they made blood ruth
Paper cult.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And that's one you can play with other people.
And I don't know how that works,
but I'm like,
we got to play that together.
You know what I mean?
Like,
I like that idea where, again,
that's an overcooked version of it, right?
Of like, hey,
go get the stars,
get the high score,
feel like you're completing something, right?
And overcooked,
I do think is,
for me,
way,
and I understand you could play RV there yet
and you could play Peak
and you could play hangman.
I've never heard of this game.
You can play these games that way,
I'm sure.
But like,
overcooked is very much like,
when me and Poe sat down
to play overcooked. It was we're trying to
three-star everything. Can we platinum this in a night?
Yet, yeah. Like, we're talking to each other. We're communicating. We're on a common goal
way more than even we did, um,
there was a party mode I was on recently where the, the forklift game where you're doing
the forklift and we're getting, oh yeah. Berries in delivering that. Even that, if you
notice, I just, is that crash out crew? Crashout crew? Yeah. Where I was like,
those games are designed to get you to crash out and do all the stuff. And that's why
I was just like, I'm just getting the shit and moving it over here.
Roger, why the fuck are you even get on,
your side of the screen.
Like nobody,
everybody's just fucking like,
no,
doing a goddamn job.
Right.
I thought,
Andy,
you can say a lot of things
about me.
Most of them are lies.
You know that.
But you tell me when we play games,
I'm usually the objective,
man.
I'm gonna go,
what's the objective?
I'm gonna be on objective.
If it's pumping water or something,
if it's what I'm gonna go do
whatever it needs to be done.
That's definitely true.
Although you didn't do a great,
I would say you didn't do a very good job
of leading Nick and overcooked.
That's because I know how Nick is.
And he's not gonna fucking listen.
Yeah.
You know what I mean?
And even go back and watch the tape.
I need more burgers.
The motherfuckers bring me buns.
Like, I don't know how to, there's no way to work with that.
And again, like, that's why that one, not even taking it seriously.
Remember when I cloned out injury or Renee that one time I overcooked?
Like, that was like, I'm doing something here.
By the way, me, uh, me saying hang beasts is a derrida of gang beasts trying to come up with another term for a friend slop.
Okay.
So you hang with your friends.
Oh, okay.
It was a game.
I was just trying to come up with a different name.
I like it.
I like it.
I like it.
I like it a lot.
I feel like it isn't quite as good as hazel
like, but yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, you know.
We'll get there. I want to bring in
a super chat from Big Fresh 37 who says.
I've always heard, uh, I've always
kind of heard Greg dismiss Overwatch
and Marvel rivals is not his thing. But I have
never heard him say in detail why.
Go be a superhero. And like, this
is an interesting one because it's different from
friend slop co-op games, whatever we want to call
him. In the way of like, I totally understand you
not liking Marvel rivals or Overwatch because those are competitive
shooters and you're not into competitive shooters.
Yeah. The front slop thing, I think is more
interesting to me just in the sense of
Oh, well, these are just co-op games, except I think the key difference is kind of the progression that you're talking about.
Which, like, I think could dig into deeper, but I think you've done a good job explaining of, like, why this doesn't work for you.
Even going further to hijack my own therapy session, right, is the idea of just like, I guess it's just, no, well, stick with me.
I would say, I would guess it's, like, party games in a more general sense.
But then you'd say, I do like Mario Party.
Again, a winner is declared in Mario Party.
There's strategy to Mario Party.
But I would throw out the fact of like, and this is not going to, this is, we're just talking
here.
This, I don't admit, but like, Among Us never worked for me.
Yeah, I was going to mention that.
Among Us never worked for me, I think for the reason that I came to it so late that every time
somebody would invite me on an Amongst stream, it would be that thing of like, all right,
what do we do?
Oh, we'll do your, okay.
And then you go, Greg did this.
And I can't lie because I don't know the fuck I'm doing.
You know what I mean?
I was always annoyed by that part of it or whatever.
but even like I'm never compelled to play in Among Us
I'm never compelled to play
Jackbox you know what I mean like that kind of thing
But but I don't know
It's the same reason we all play games for different reasons right
Like I'm playing games because I want to be doing a specific thing
Right I want to be achieving this thing
And so when the achievements are nebulous right
Or the in the or the achievement or the goal
Or the gameplay is outside of the screen
and it is the time you're spending with each other.
Maybe that's more tied up in it.
Fair enough.
Yeah, I feel that.
I think that if you were on a stream and we were playing a game that had progression to it,
that when you play on the stream, you go,
damn, I can't wait to go continue this at home.
Hell down.
Because I unlocked this thing or as I'm on stream,
I am unlocking and making my character better.
I got this new ability, whatever the hell.
And I'm totally with you on the,
that of going like, oh, I get to take this home with me.
Yeah, yeah.
And I get to kind of continue this story or continue this journey, you know.
There's nothing that I love more, right, is that itch, I got to play this.
I got to keep playing this.
Like that week where we had Hell Livers, too, and we hijacked all the streams and just played
all it.
Like, that was such a joy.
You know what I mean?
Of being that obsessed with it, being obsessed with the division, right?
Like, just being obsessed with the game, period.
But in terms of, like, something we're all doing together or multiple of us are doing,
like, that's special.
And it's so different for me.
I think, you know, like, the way the company has progressed and grown, again, you jump back to COVID when Among Us takes off.
And it's like, I'm not getting online and playing with other people because I'm sheltering in place with Jen and Lucy, right?
So we're watching movies or playing stuff.
So gaming still is the single player thing for me in that regard, right?
And then you think about the games that do grab me of a division or an Avengers, you know, ha, ha, ha.
But like, you know, these games that it's like, hey, when they said, Greg, go be a superhero.
I was like, well, Avengers was that for that.
And of course, you know, Marvel Heroes Omega.
Like, I have those things.
But even Heroes Omega, which was a Diablo clone, you could play with other people.
I played solo all the time.
What do you have?
You have a why he's making a butthole?
Yeah, why isn't there a butthole on your screen?
I was trying to make the, um, the graph.
Oh!
Nice, nice, nice for RPG characters.
Yeah.
And he just has a little Photoshop, but he has basically like, like, like, it looks like the
butthole from community when they made the flat.
I was starting the graph and then I was going.
to draw out like
you know, Greg's into this genre,
Greg's out into this genre, you know what I mean?
It's a star, you know, it's star-line or whatever.
Try to do the Madden line.
I like that.
But I think that's something also like, you know, again,
with the maturity of the company,
but to close out that thread, right?
Even then, I think 2020 was such a different time
and obviously not being in the studio together.
When you guys go home and you stream stuff together
and you continue and you make the Power World server
and you're all playing and try it.
It's like, I love that for you,
but like I look at all those games
and I'm always like, that's not a game
I want. Like I'm excited for when division
three does drop or the next whatever
multiplayer game that I'm obsessed with and it is
someone else here is upset with. I'm telling you you were
making fun of me after the preview.
I think you and Ben could get really into
Splatoon. I'm telling you man. Okay.
Like for real for one. I want you tell you can, if you
want to inside baseball thing, you can all go back and look
at games daily today because at some
point somebody mentioned Splatoon's release
and I went in Google that thinking it was already out.
Like this weekend I was like, don't I have Splatoon?
Like I went looking for for Ben and I kept my mouth shut
I don't want to play the platoon right now.
I know he'd want to play it.
Greg?
Yeah.
Unless you have anything more on that topic.
We can move on.
It's a free-forling conversation.
The only thing I would say is I think
as not only the company's matured
and whatever, and I've gotten older
and matured as well, I no longer,
like, I don't
look at the excitement they're having,
playing a PAL World or Mike with it, whatever,
party game he's buying for the Jerberny Boys.
I don't look at that and go, man,
I really wish I enjoyed it.
Like, I'm happy to know what I like.
this year specifically in the last three months of being like,
I'm just going to play that vampire game.
I'm going to go back to Diablo and try to get this ready for Blisscon.
Like being able to say like, it's covered.
I'm,
it's still so hard for me coming from the background of IGN
and coming from being the PlayStation guy to be like,
I don't have to grab every puck.
I can let them go.
Like, you guys have it covered.
I don't need to be on every review.
Oh, even Black Flag last week where it was like,
I started a Black Flag and did like five hours.
and I'm like, oof, I'm not feeling it.
And rather than push that,
just because I'm not in the,
it feels like old black flag to me,
and I don't need to have more to say about that.
It was rather than push that,
let's stop and go play something else
and make content about something,
another game,
another title.
I will say to the friend slot thing.
I,
I think I feel similarly to you,
except I have fun playing friend slap on content.
If I'm off content,
I don't really want to play it.
Yeah.
Like, I've had friends hit me up and be like,
we can play peek sometime.
And I'm like,
uh,
my free time off camera,
I don't know.
But I have,
When we're streaming stuff here, I do have a lot of fun playing those games.
So I think part of it, I think half of it is the chaos of it.
I think it's fun to then perform off of.
I think part of it falls into, and I know, you know, wo is me or whatever,
but how ungodly busy we are here.
Yeah.
And so it is the idea that going in there and doing a party mode for an hour and a half,
on a normal day's fine.
But when it is, there's, I need to play more Assassin's Creed to make a decision.
I need to play this redacted thing.
I want to play this for trying to get a Diablo character
where I want them for a BlizzCon trip, hopefully.
Like, those kind of things start pulling in different directions
where it's like, this hour of my time,
which is the only hour at my,
should have been, would have been the only hour at my desk for the day.
I would have rather put into the steam machine.
So I had something more to say on this review,
when Gary comes in, that kind of thing.
Where it's like, I can't, I see the doctor fate.
I see the kaleidoscope of all the realities
that could have been with what I'm doing.
Instead I'm driving this fucking RV and Nick's piss me off.
now the
when you mentioned
bless like the
the whole party atmosphere
idea yeah
atmosphere feel
think about that
I'll think about it
yeah
think about it for something
in the future
atmosphere
well I have to figure out
what to fly that
yeah
I can't think
nothing comes to mind
what's the
like how does this air feel
who knows
what's the air feel
see I was thinking
it was like a mechanic
you know
I know I'll try
I think of the game
or a game genre
but um
so
so for the party
aesthetic
and the atmosphere, right?
You're thinking, like, I don't want to play that.
I'm not on content right now.
But for me, something like Heave Ho,
that Heave Ho, too, that we just did for party mode,
which was a fucking blast.
That's a game that if I'm at a get-together,
like, or anytime I go back home and it's me and my friends
and we're just, like, drinking, you know, eating snacks and shit.
It's like...
I would play that at a party.
I love having, you know, we love having that Pico Park on the screen.
We have Ultimate Chicken Horse.
sweet. Heave Ho is one that I'm like, oh shit, that's one that we got to add to the rotation,
because that's one that is just insane laughs.
Well, see, I, heave Ho, I don't look at his friend slop.
Heath Ho, to me, is a co-op game.
I see what you're saying.
So I think there's, like, the distinct, because, like, I think of that, I think of,
there was a game called Operation Tango.
I played a few years ago with a friend.
And, like, that way, we played through that whole game.
And Escape Academy, for example, is one that I'll play with a friend.
What's the one we did?
Thickest Thieves.
Oh, I was going to bring that up.
I love Thickest thieves with you so much because, again, it was, we're doing
something together, but we're playing the kind of game.
We're playing a quote-unquote real game. A game I would play outside of just a party or something.
This is a game I would play solo, right? Of like, let's sneak through. Let's get the diamonds.
Let's come out. Let's be more powerful. And to play that with you. And I told you even, right, of like, I got home from that stream.
And it's the antithesis of what we're talking about the other ones where I got home and I was like, you know what?
Fucking downloaded it to the ROG and started playing solo. Because I wanted to keep chasing the high we had together doing that.
Greg, you've listed more things here that you want to talk about in these different categories. So we're going to get to it.

You're richer than you think.
Craig, I'm going to have you pick where we go next.
Oh, sure.
I asked you three different questions.
I know you have more that you could talk about for what's bugging you currently,
but do you want to stick here or do you want to move to either fixing your gaming habits
or gaming insecurities?
How are you feeling?
I'm great.
I'm great. I like this. I'm having fun.
Is it chat having fun? You have a fun? You're the patient here.
You're the host. You're the host. Look at those and what's most interesting to you.
What are these I really like? Because I relate. So to what's bugging you currently, I'll never learn the Nintendo button. Leah.
I mean, man, it's so simple. You know what I mean? But it's like PlayStation, obviously no problem. Xbox obviously no problem.
The Steam controller, what a fucking dream?
machine. Anytime I pick up the switch, it is like I'm a fucking math teacher. I'm like,
all right. It's your fucking A. Oh, fuck. Did that backed out of the thing?
To right now you told me to press X on a switch. I couldn't tell you. Right? You got to sit there
and you got to reverse the Xbox buttons. It drives me fucking crazy. Yesterday I was streaming
Xenoblade and almost crashed out because there's a button you can press the command
your party members. You press R2 and you press like the buttons that appear on screen. And
on screen, they just show four circles, right? It's the top left, right, and down. And
I'm like pressing, I'm trying to get them to come to me.
So I press R2 and the bottom button B.
And I'm like, chat is not working.
And chat's like, you're not pressing the button.
I'm like, I swear to God, I'm pressing the button.
I'm like about to crash out on chat.
And I'm like, I'm pressing R2 and B.
And they're like, no, it's down on the directional pad.
And I'm like, what do you mean is down the directional pad?
And then they're like, yeah, those circles are the directional buttons.
Granted, like, mind you, these are just blank circles.
They're not telling you a button.
They're just showing you where it's at on the thing.
But because the joycons, the direction.
though the directional thing is all circles.
I'm playing on a pro controller
which is just straight up the cross.
Yeah, I know what you're saying.
I know what you're saying.
That's fairly obvious. It's not.
I did the same thing in a different game
that I'm reviewing that I can't talk about,
but it was. It popped up and I was like, okay, B.
Yeah.
Why isn't, and this is, whatever, B,
and I was like, oh, and then I was like, oh, that's the D-Pad?
Oh, D-Pad, what the fuck.
What's gotten me better with it is my A-Y-N-3.
Thor, like, so much of that operates with A being on the right or progress being on the right,
like, FacePad or whatever.
Now, one I'll never get a ZR and ZL.
Oh, see, that one I get.
What is it?
Because those are the bottom ones.
Those are R2.
Z is always bought, but I think, did you grow up with the N-64?
No.
Because I think the N-64 prime n-n-brain to Z is always the bottom button.
Oh.
Yeah.
Z on the N64 was the one,
was basically the trigger.
But Z's,
I just,
I just think of them as twos.
Right?
Because they're the shoulders, right?
Yeah.
You know what I mean?
They're triggers.
Yeah.
That's smart.
You look at them as twos.
Yeah.
That's smart.
But again, it's like,
I'll,
knock on wood,
I'll never be dropped on an alien planet.
But I feel playing Nintendo games.
That's how I feel.
I'm like,
this is very similar to my culture.
This is very similar to my culture.
Yeah.
Like, when I'm playing Pocopia
for like 40 hours
on, you know, just, you know, killing it.
Like, a couple hours in it all
becomes second nature. But the moment I put down
the switch and walk away and come back a month
later, I'm like, I don't know what the fuck I'm doing. I mean, the problem
is that for me, I will never get used to it.
Because I rotate enough between an Xbox controller
and a switch controller
because I use Xbox controller for PC half the time.
And so it's like, press A on an Xbox controller. I know that's always
the bottom button. I'm used to now, if I pick up
a switch, right is confirmed.
But it's those X and Ys that will always fuck me up every single time.
We have three different major controllers that all have X, and they're all in different places.
Yeah.
The place is, one ever fucks to me, though.
PlayStation's one never fucks with me either.
Yeah, exactly.
But that's just, I think I'm just the one I'm probably most used to at this point.
Because it's just never changed.
I know Xbox has never changed.
And it drives me crazy because, and I haven't, I don't think checked on the Switch 2,
but at least with Switch 1, you know, you could go in there in the settings and remap the buttons.
But then every time you open a fucking game, we'd be like, do you want to keep the settings?
Do you want to keep it?
I'm like, yeah, fucker.
I chose them. Let it be.
But even if it was going into the game, I'd already set them for.
Come the fuck on.
Do you know what else I think helps with PlayStation?
Is that I look at that as a shape, not as a letter?
Me too.
It's a cross. Technically, it's cross.
Yeah, we're a switch and Xbox.
I'm like, these are letters.
And so I do that.
Also, the light is off on the other side of the office.
Is there a reason for that?
Yeah, they must be.
Open the door.
It must be filming the buzz.
It's too early for the buzz, though, you know?
The buzz's already done, yeah.
It happened right as...
It happened right after we delivered your coffee, Andy,
and I came back over there,
and it turned off right as I walked in,
and I looked around,
kind of freaked out of,
like, his power going out.
And I look at Roger and Roger
just shakes his head at me,
like, don't ask,
and Mike was walking around the room doing something.
Oh, okay.
Maybe he's trying to scare you later.
Who knows?
I'd like that if we came out of a haunted house.
Just a surprise haunted house?
I put so much effort into making you guys entertain.
Nobody entertains us.
You know what I mean?
What isn't anybody entertain me?
We try to put that on the
Front Slot streets. Put that on the list.
What's bugging me currently?
No, it's entertaining me.
Nobody tries to prank me.
Nobody tries to prank me.
I thought we had a nice society going here.
I'm too terrified because I just know that
it would come back to me tenfold.
If I tried anything on you,
you would somehow have my dad call me
to tell me that he's dying or something.
And it would just be.
be a big prank, you know?
So I just, I would never, ever risk it.
Wait till you see what I have planned for Game Showdown.
Oh, God.
Not for you.
You'll be fine.
Okay.
Of course it's not for you.
There's only one person to be for.
I asked you, what do you want to fix about your gaming habits?
Yeah.
You want to shut out distractions from work.
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Tell me about that.
So there's always so much to do it kind of funny, as you all know.
And that's really great.
We're really successful and awesome.
And I love helping people and doing stuff.
But it's that thing of, you guys see this calendar,
and you'll see me put Greg Games on there or whatever,
and I block out like four hours.
And I'll usually, if I'm lucky, get an hour and a half out of that.
Because it is, I come out and then someone needs me.
Email.
And then I get there.
There's an email.
And then that email leads to a call or a pitch or something I got to go.
You know what I mean?
Like, there's so many pieces to the jobs that,
the job that trips you up.
So, like, I've been noodling.
I'm about to go on my annual summer vacation that Andy makes fun of me forever you.
No, just spring break.
It's just a spring break.
I'm off this week, spring break.
You just imagine my Malibu.
I'm doing cake stands.
Dan Cortez.
Yeah, exactly.
But, like, coming back from that,
theoretically, knock on Plex at last,
we're either imminently,
maybe two weeks out,
maybe one week out.
Blood of Don Walker.
Oh, maybe.
Maybe it even happens while I'm gone.
either that bullish because it's gone gold.
But we're in spitting distance of somewhere of getting Dawn Walker.
And I want to put real hours into Dawn Walker,
which really does mean like when I come back,
it's going to be like,
I got to be on these shows and then I'm not,
I'm not even opening a computer.
You know what I mean?
Like I'm here.
I'm at my desk or whatever,
but I'm not doing anything about playing that game.
The initial idea for all of this,
I don't know if Bless was here.
Maybe Bless was gone somewhere,
but Greg said when I have that week off or whatever.
Oh, that's still happening too.
Is that sometime later?
uh it's like no it's what the week i get back go ahead and tell him though he says well the week i
get back he's like i have like two to three days where i'm alone
jenn and ben i don't know what the fuck he was like i'm contemplating
just gaming somewhere here in the office for those three days going to shower at like
wherever at mike's place or maybe your place coming back here to sleep here come
But we should save water and do it together.
And he was just saying, like, I want to pick a game to just go real hard at for 72 hours.
Wow.
Where Greg would, like, post up somewhere here.
I'm going to put a sleeping bat mattress or whatever.
We'll get a camera on him, whatever the fuck, you know what to be, to be a little reality.
Life balance.
I vaguely mentioned this in the meeting this week of like, okay, cool.
And then I'm like, I might be off that Thursday, but I feel like I've taken too much time off.
but I might stream more from home.
Because, yeah, the idea, initially,
Andy's joked around about it a lot, right,
of like, what we need to do is send Jen and Ben
on an all expense paid vacation,
and Greg just sits there and plays tears at the kingdom.
It finishes tears at the kingdom finally, right?
And so it was, like, Andy, it's kind of that kind of not
where they're going to go do,
nobody tell Ben if he's run into them.
Like, they're going to do a little camping trip,
just mommy and Benny are, right?
And so it's a Monday, Tuesday, back on a Wednesday.
And so I had been, like, originally,
like, what if I basically moved into the office?
Yeah, and so, like, I was just streaming, kind of like the Starfield stream was,
but not like a marathon, like you have to pay for it, where I would just play something there.
And then we bought another fucking dog.
And so I was like, oh, shit.
So it's like, I think what I'm going to instead do is still play something.
Hopefully, I mean, that's what Monday the 10th?
Rebel Wolves.
Is that who there?
No, that is.
Yes.
If you're doing fucking, if Donald Walker is ready by then, don't worry about it, I won't stream goddamn shit.
Let me know what, let me know.
I won't stream a motherfucking thing.
What is Donald Walker up to?
But if not, yeah, like, my plan right now on those days is obviously work and play, whatever,
but then, yeah, go home and hopefully stream something.
Because I do miss streaming my kind of game.
I don't miss streaming party mode games.
But I do, like, when I did my birthday stream here for Starfield,
and I just played that for 12 hours or whatever, like, that's kind of my, that's the stream vibe I like.
Yeah.
Hey, I'm playing something.
I'm not trying to give you an opinion about it because I've already talked this game to death.
Now we're just enjoying something and going for it.
Okay.
Yeah.
Greg.
Yeah.
What is your gaming insecurity?
You have two here that I really want to talk about.
Sure.
Where do you want to start?
Wherever you want to,
buddy,
you're host.
Am I even good at reviewing games?
Yeah.
Talk about that.
I've been doing this a long time.
You know what I mean?
20-some years almost in March.
And obviously so much of Greg Miller
is a character to a degree.
You know what I mean?
Like, you know, I'm very genuine,
but like when I'm yelling at a PC gamer or whatever,
calling Todd Howard on a phone,
thinking how I'm going to ruin Tim's life
because of a game show he doesn't even
necessarily want to be on.
Calling Nikki Jackie a pedophile.
We don't bring that one up, but we're friends now.
Oh shit, he's got to get out here too.
We never bring them.
You do all these different bits and all these different bits
in jokes and it's like,
am I still, you know, in my head
if you sat and talked to me, I'm still a video game critic, right?
But I guess, and when I talk to other people now,
I usually say, well, I, you know,
co-own an online media company
because no one understands what you say.
And if you get into that, I'm an entertainer, right?
because of, again, it's more than just reviewing games.
But then you get into just reviewing games,
and I'm like, damn, I don't know if I'm good at it.
And I think it's because I'm surrounded by people who are so great at it.
Like, bless, you're so good at it.
And also to be lucky enough to see-
I don't like, Andy's so compared to myself.
You're like, you're so good at it.
Well, I think I really accentuated.
Yeah, you really accentuated with Andy.
I appreciate that.
You caught that, right?
I think he's like treating me of the kid gloves right now.
He's like, he's like, Andy needs to be told it more because he's way more.
What I would actually say is,
that I think, and this is no
shade to anybody involved or whatever, but I think
Andy's come so far. I don't think
Andy was ever bad at reviewing games, but I think
there's such a, stick with me,
chasm between being
just a guy who likes video games and a person
who's incredibly educated about reviewing a video game.
And I think your
chasm or whatever,
your ground to cover was shorter because of
OK Beast. You were already thinking
critically in a different way than I think Andy was
before he really got here. And even to
go back and watch the original kind of funny content where it's like,
yes, Andy will be on a few things here and there,
but we're really hiring him for behind the scenes thing.
The way he's grown into on-camera personality,
but more importantly, I would say, grown into,
or use what he's doing with his streams to grow his kind of funny content
in the way he talks about games and the way now that when Andy gets in,
he can talk and can compare,
and like, because he's playing so many different games at night, right?
What he's then jumping in and talking to us here about
and using those examples is so incredible or whatever.
that's what I mean by
you're very different reviewers
While you were reviewing on OK Beast
I was putting in journey
sound bites into party mode episodes
Yeah
Someday love will find you
Bring those
Chase that back you
They always demonetize the party mode episodes
And Tim was like it's okay man
Don't worry about it
Was that a rock
You keep on putting journey clips in today
I sure will
And so anyways then
It doesn't it's something that it gets
in my head, I'm still going to go out and do me, do me, you know what I mean?
But it is that thing of like, man, when people think of like video game reviewers that they
enjoy their work of, am I part of that or am I part of it is just the people like listening to
me podcast because I'm kooky and crazy and I'm like funny and I occasionally stumble on to a point.
And then it's also the thing of like, well, am I better at being an industry commentator?
Like I think especially you and me bless really cook on games daily.
And then granted, you talk about fertile ground to play with in the last three months,
if not year, right?
where it's like there's really things to get in there
and talk about and this, what about that, and blah, blah.
I think I'm really good at that, not remembering
any facts or dates, but like, you know,
being able to do that. So it's like, I don't know,
it just gets in, not in my head, but it's like, man,
I wonder if I'm still thought of as a video game review
or any worthwhile capacity.
Do you think that has to do with you speaking to a microphone
and not writing down a review?
Probably.
Probably.
I think there's a level of respect that people get,
not that it's undeserved or whatever, but like,
when you, when you were a reviewer for a website
and it is, oh, I can read your words
and you can break down things and put it so
beautifully and all this stuff. I feel like as a podcaster, it's way more of a flow.
It's way more of a back and forth. Like reviewing for us is inherently a different task than
reviewing for a website in print. Do you think that's changed the perception of who Greg Miller is
as a reviewer? Probably. I, you know, and again, how much of it is in my head versus the reality
of the situation. But I mean, yeah, you figure like, think about writing where you get to sit there
and do your first draft, your second draft, really hone, move this paragraph, change that thing,
you know. It's like crafting a song. Bounce it off someone, let them.
emce, and then this is all jazz, right?
So it's like, there's tons of times where I'm like, I come in, like, I am ready to
fucking go, I'm going to kill this review, and then we start the show and someone does a bit
and then they ask me a question in a different way than where I wanted.
I would have started and it's like, oh, shit, I'm already kind of rocked on where I wanted
to be.
How do I get back to say the thing?
Or I, you know, I do it all the time on the shows where I fuck it up where it's like,
I come out and I'm trying to say why it's a six and not a seven, but then I say seven
because it's in my head.
I love our adjective so much.
So I'm trying to tell you why it's a good game, not a great game.
But then I say, what do you think of it?
It's a great game.
I don't mean it's actually great.
It's like little things like that that I think, again, speak to how seriously we all take the job.
Where it is like to a listener, they probably aren't hung up thinking about that at all or viewer.
But for me, it's like I want to come out and succinctly kill what I'm trying to say and nail it and be fired up and ready to go.
And so it's an interesting one when I know that I'm spinning my wheel.
trying to get to the point or do whatever.
Oh, sure.
And I think I relate to you in that sense.
Like, in a weird way, I'm more self-conscious of previews than reviews.
Oh, interesting.
But I'm with you that like, when it comes to KFD, I can do KFD with Bion As Close, right?
I feel I can come out, talk about video game news, talk about these different topics.
But when it is about opinion-based stuff, I think previews I get nervous of because it's almost like I have to do more remembering and more
I feel like there's an accuracy involved in terms of being able to recall,
oh, you have a question about this thing that nobody else has played.
Only me and like 10 other people played this.
Now I have to give my opinion and like set people up for how excited they're going to be,
how non-excited is going to be.
And I think there's a lot more scrutiny for a negative preview than there is for a negative review in some ways.
For a review, I think I've been able to come around on the fact of like,
I don't think there's a wrong way to review a thing.
As long as they're not like saying things that are non-factual about a,
a product or a work of art or whatever
however something hits you
that's how it hits you and so as long as you're able to communicate
hey I don't like this thing for
XYZ reason it doesn't give a I don't give a shit
about what the Metacritic is I don't give it about what anybody
else thinks about a thing as long as I'm
able to communicate my own feelings
about a thing then like then I think
I'm confident in my review
like I look back at a Pragmatic review for example
or me and Roger were way low yeah Roger
was lower than I was low low low
I was 6.5 Roger 5
crazy
but crazy
you know I'm talking about, but like, I know most people disagree with my 6.5 out of 10 review for
a pack mounted. And I know that everybody else reviewed it higher. I don't get a shit, though,
because that's reflective of how I feel. See, it's interesting you go that way with it.
Because, yeah, for me, it's never being the outlier or being with the pack or what my score is.
It's more, did I effectively communicate? Did I just fall back on the same adjectives?
You know what I mean? Blah, blah, you know, all the tricks you do in stutters and stops.
You know what I mean? Did I have compelling content? Did I back up my points?
verbally in a way similar what you're probably talking about when I write it I know that I can
nail when you write it it's like okay I can read this over yeah I know what I know what I've said
now for you is it a thing of delivery or I know these might be this be similar things right but
delivery and how you say it or the words and like what you say because when I listen to you
review video games I don't think I'm ever like oh he didn't have confidence in how he said that or
like he he flubbed saying these words or whatever and I guess I never also have the thing
of like, oh damn, you sucked on that review.
I don't think I've ever thought that.
But, like, for you, where does that insecurity?
Delivery, no, it would be, yeah, words, thoughts, you know what I mean, in terms of getting
them out succinctly, clearly.
I guess it's one of those things of, like, to boil it down, I guess.
I've never thought about it.
This is a really fun therapy session.
I appreciate this part.
Of course, of, like, it's like, am I thought of, the reviewers that I hold in a high regard,
do people think that I'm several tiers?
below them, I guess would be the thought process, right?
Okay.
That would be where I am.
And so it's all in your head.
It's not to the point, it's like, it's so rare that I leave the stage.
I'm like, I didn't get it all.
It's more like, did I present it in a way people enjoyed, understood?
You know what I mean?
Like, is it still, again, for doing this this long, it is that are people still showing up to
hear what Greg Miller has to say about this is a question too.
Do you feel like we've packaged the content in a way that makes people care to,
to care about what the Greg Miller opinion is about this?
And like that, I guess, in the way that you're thinking.
Yeah.
Because I, let's tell this back for a second.
Sure.
Are there reviewers you have in mind when you think of, you know, do people see me on this level?
Do you have an ideal thought of like, this is the ideal video game reviewer or just the ideal reviewer of a thing?
Doesn't have to be video games.
Like, who does Greg Miller want to aspire to be?
Oh, man.
it's so it's i think it's really
i'm just going to interrupt real quick because i i think that
you know i think it is one thing to do
a scripted video review and one thing to do a conversation
oh for sure and i think that those are two completely different pieces of content
and like i i forget what game we were reviewing maybe it was saros
and somebody said
I liked
maybe it was like
IGN's review more
or something like that
and I'm like
that's all fine and good
but you got to understand
that a podcast
with three to four people
talking to each other
is different than one person
with maybe an editor
to look over things
writing out
like almost
an art piece
I want to call it
because it's like
a review
from a very good writer
is, to me it's like crafting
a song. You are
there's flowery
language here and there to
make the reader go, ooh, I like that.
And then there's a call back to
a word and you go, oh shit, that's a neat way
to tie it all together. And that's
so much different than just
a conversation. Oh, for sure.
And I
wish more people
kind of saw it that way, because
I think any of us are
capable of doing really awesome pre-packaged pieces of content.
I think we put it.
Go watch one of Baird's video essays.
Go watch any of the videos.
I think you, yeah, that absolutely.
And I think it was also on display whenever we did during the pandemic, our TikTok reviews.
Oh, yeah.
It wasn't off the cuff.
It was written.
And I put, I and we all put an effort to let me make this catchy with.
fun words and I'm hitting these certain points
but I'm also entertaining and I'm trying to find a way to
wrap it all into a neat little package for the viewer or whatever
and I that's so much different than
to me sitting down like when I'm reviewing the game
I want people to know what it feels like
did it meet the expectations that I thought it would
do I think that they overshot
you know what they should have been trying to do
yeah I try to just get that
across to the viewer, but when we're, if there's ever a moment where we'd get to pre-package something,
then that, that's a lot more effort, obviously. And, but I, like, we are absolutely capable of doing
that shit, too. And that's part of the reason why, like, my, the original question I was asking
before I pivoted the question was, you know, have we packaged the content in a way that makes people,
that could make people go, oh, Greg Miller, I view them as like this of reviews. Because when I think
of what we do here for reviews, I think of it of the, I think of the ethos of kind of funny,
when it started, which was, oh, we're just friends on hanging out, having a conversation.
And that is still, I think, the energy that we have when we're talking about games, which is,
oh, yeah, if I'm hanging out with, like, Yusuf, Meg, my close friends, and I'm telling them about a video game,
that's what I'm doing here.
I don't know if that's a thing.
I don't know if that as an end result to the listener makes them go, damn, blessings the Roger Ebert of the shit.
When I was like, no, I'm just kicking it.
If I wanted to be the Roger Ebert of video game reviews, I don't know.
I would, this wouldn't be the format to do it in my opinion.
It would be an eight to ten minute prepared thing.
Yeah, shoot down the barrel.
Yeah.
That's a really good point.
Similar to what you used to do at IGN, you know.
That I don't know.
I feel like whenever I'm trying to review something,
it's the same way that you just mentioned,
you talking to your friends about it.
When I'm out there and I'm telling you about how much fun I had at this
platoon preview and how much I think,
then I bring that energy in here and I'm like,
You know, what can I get across in a better, more succinct way or whatever?
But, again, I think it's just more different than trying to do something more.
No, that's a really great point.
Yeah.
I mean, obviously, I know the difference, but I didn't think about the point of, like, what the core of what we started here and where we've always talked about what we're doing in front of these microphones.
So that's a good reminder of it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
I like that.
I like that.
Like for the, I'll say for the review stuff, I love skill up.
I love Baldino.
Oh, yeah.
I pulled out, you know, I was Googling, not names,
so I knew these people trying to find.
Two shoutouts I would put is Travis Northup over at IGN.
Yes.
Oh, yeah.
Travis plays a lot of the same games I play in reviews,
a lot of the same games I play,
so whenever he, his reviews are always so well written.
And so knowledgeable,
which is also why I put Jordan Midler from VGC in here, of course,
friend of the show, Uncle Jordan to my son.
But again, the knowledge base he pulls from.
And I think, again, written, it's always easier.
But again, for how I look at myself,
of like dates, sales figures,
like that's shit that I just forget about.
If I was writing an article,
it'd be easy to go pull that stuff and have it.
But it's always like, even, you know,
as much as I hate him and wish he would stop playing Game Showdown,
Tim, the way he withholds information
and can keep it in his brain for everything going forward.
And then when we're talking about a review
or reacting to something,
he can be like, oh, that's calling out whatever
from whatever Nintendo game, like Jesus Christ.
I can't remember the buttons on the fucking Nintendo control.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And like calling out reviewers, right?
Like I agree.
Skillup is probably one of my, not even probably,
Skillop is one of my favorite video game reviewers out there.
I look at somebody like Austin Walker and his writing.
I was super into Austin Walker stuff.
It's still him.
But I was reading it way more,
but I was like more into taking everything before I worked that kind of funny.
And like,
I think that's another thing when we're talking about how we,
how we're able to talk about games here, right?
Like, I think we all have such different styles.
You know, Andy, you talk about, you know,
the way that you structure something.
And like Tim,
I know Tim is, if Tim is very passionate about a game, like, he's able to communicate his hype about something in a way that, like, makes you almost nostalgic for it in the moment.
You know, and I think there's a beauty in that.
And that's something that I've been trying to navigate with my own reviews.
And for me, being somebody who like Austin Walker stuff, who also, like, wants to look at video games as a piece of culture in something that matters to us beyond just, is it good, is it bad thing?
That's the thing that I know I've battled with in my reviews, in my own searching for how to become the old.
version of blessing as a video game reviewer because I don't want to leave you with I played this
game it's great it's an eight out of ten and then leave here right I want to give you something of
oh this is what this personally meant to me this is what I think this game achieved in terms of
what it's trying to do and the themes of which it tackles and how the game design is married
with the story and all this shit I'm still I think nowhere near the ultimate version of of what I
want to be but I think there's excitement in wanting to chase that and for you Greg to be doing this
for 20 years?
Just about 20 years.
Like, I think it's a good place to be for you to still be like, I want to get better.
Yeah, for sure.
I want to own that craft because I think that's, I don't know, I think that's an exciting
place to be as far as wanting to be better at this.
Yeah, yeah, I never want to rest.
Yeah.
Greg.
Yeah.
I think we've got time for one more.
Okay.
Of these bullet points.
Sure.
I want to stick with gaming and security, unless you have one that you really want to do.
I don't know. This is probably it.
Persona 5.
I was like, I wanted to play this game.
I just don't want to play it.
You know what I mean?
And I love,
fucking love persona 3,
reviewed persona 3.
Loved persona 4,
reviewed persona 4.
And I'm talking about it.
I played 3 and then reviewed Fez.
Played 4 and then reviewed Golden.
Like, it's like,
I don't know.
Five,
it's got everything I should,
but I just couldn't do it.
And I don't know.
Every,
and I don't.
Time?
I,
no.
And at this point,
no.
You know what I mean?
Like,
Well, no, at this point, it should have just done it.
It's just like, I'm like, on the hunt.
And you like the optopath.
I know.
I love it.
I don't know what.
I think, I don't know.
Like, I think just, you know, I have, I started keeping a notebook on that last
playthrough of persona, knowing I would have to put it down and have to come back for it or whatever.
Because I, I feel like I can't, I can't be hyped for six if I don't beat five.
Because I want, I'm hyped for six because I own new persona.
But it's like, moron, you didn't beat this one.
But it's like almost something about.
all the stuff happening outside of the battle being too much for me.
Maybe it's me doing the thing of, well,
I want to make sure I max out every social thing I want to be.
Maybe I just need to let that go.
I just need to fucking play and be fun.
Yeah,
100% let that go.
Enjoy the company with the characters you want to enjoy.
Yeah, right?
Yeah.
But then he gets home, Baird, and then he goes,
damn, dude, I didn't, I didn't max out that level and now my progression.
Like, it's going back to the friend slot thing.
It's like, I don't want to have it.
Who cares?
Where's going with it?
Where's Eddie going?
You know, there's only like, especially for Royal, because I do think the story stuff that's
included in Royal is some of the best in Persona 5.
Yeah.
So there's like two characters where it's like, okay, I'm going to nudge you that way.
But then everything else, it's like, just take it in.
Just feel where, you know, the flow takes you.
Because that's outside of Persona 5, that's how I've had to kind of take persona 3
and persona 4,
especially like
the platinum for 3 reload
trying to do that.
It's like,
oh, this is a terrible way
to try to play these games
of like maxing everybody out
and like trying to min-max
all of this stuff.
You really should just, you know.
Let it go.
Yeah, let it go.
Look up.
Let it go.
I see a super chat here
saying,
Greg, I know,
and this is more just like a,
me reading this because it got me excited.
This is from Street Shadow.
I know it's not everyone's cup of tea,
but Marathon is
adding the fully PVEE,
roguide mode with progression today.
It might be worth a try.
Dude,
should we put that on stream?
Dude,
we need to.
I would love to play that.
It's,
it's like,
it's,
it's,
it's,
it's,
it's,
it's,
it's,
what I want.
We got to play it.
I want it so bad,
dude.
Would I like it,
any of me?
Um,
yeah.
Oh,
yeah.
Okay.
Well,
you don't create your dude,
though.
Yeah,
I'm fine with that.
You customize the classes.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Right.
But, you know, if I feel ownership over the character.
If you see number go up, yeah, I like that.
Yeah.
You know.
Frank likes a looter shooter.
He does.
I know this isn't a looter shooter, but it's elements.
It has those elements.
This is a vault breaker.
Yeah.
God, I really want to.
I want the Division 3 so bad.
God, I want the Division 3 bad.
More super chats for you.
Parks View says, Greg, do you ever think about flexing that muscle again
and actually writing a review for a game you play but aren't on content for?
Yeah, I have
Not in any serious capacity
I've kicked around with Game Informer
Doing some kind of thing
You're coming back and writing something
It's again though
I think what's so important about it is
Stick with me because it'll sound really stupid
Like I'm making a bit I'm not
It reminds me a lot of skateboarding
Of like
Skateboarding was shocking to find a hobby
That wasn't games that I would take away time
From games to do
And so right now as we're talking about
Like maybe I block out weeks of my time
To play Don Walker
to go do this, to go that.
It's like to then think about,
well, now I'm blocking out time to go, right?
That immediately makes me less excited.
I don't, I, leaving, even at IGN,
leaving the PlayStation team and becoming a full-time host,
I was worried about missing writing,
and I never did, and I never have.
Like, it's very rare.
When I go back and write something,
I wrote a bunch of stuff for the EGM stuff that's coming up.
I was like, oh, man, this is fun,
and this is cool to go back to,
but it's also hard with a word count,
and yada, yada, but it was like,
when I was sitting down,
and putting those on the schedule the right,
it was the same conversation.
Like,
ah,
but I really wish I was playing this.
I dropped out of a podcast today
with Brian Shea that I was going to go do
that I need to reschedule because of the Avengers trailer
and then I have a flight.
It's like the days are so fucking crowded.
It's insane how crowded our days are.
And so it's like me thinking about when I'd have the free time
to write like that.
Like it's a lofty aspiration.
Maybe one day I'll want that again.
But no,
like I don't have that passion for it that way.
Because I still get to talk to everybody,
you know,
about what you're reminding me of, right?
Like, I wrote the reviews as if I was talking to my best friend on the couch in my parents'
basement, right?
That was how I always approached a review telling you what it was trying to entertain you.
And it's what I do here on the mics as well, talking about games here.
And so I'm still flexing that muscle and doing that.
And even the, I don't know, I've just been doing it a long time.
And, you know, I have far outlived the average age of a video game journalist or whatever
you want to call it, critic, right?
Like the era I came up and you see everybody wash out, go to PR,
go to eventually start going to devs.
Like there's no money in this.
There's no life.
And granted, very different now with us, Jeff, like Gersman.
I mean, Jeff Keely, right?
Like, there's a bunch of new avenues to it.
But in crazies it might sound, we are still very much bleeding edge of what this
looks like at 43, what it's going to look like at 45, what it's going to look like at 50.
Like, it's crazy.
So I think I've been doing it so long.
It's just, am I still good at it?
but it's not so much of
I miss writing if that makes sense
that makes sense
Street Shadow
did you already read this one
oh Street Shadow running with multiple
Street Shadow also says
I think the internet has led an opinion
that if you are playing a game
that the mask doesn't like
then you are wrong
but I have leaned more into
just playing what I want to play
sounds like Greg
yeah that's something you know
I put on here right of like
the quest for content was one of the things
that's bugging me but not really
but it is for me it's the idea
of like I played that
night of Big Hops. I was like, holy shit,
Big Hops is awesome. It's actually out this
year. Nobody here has really played it.
Like, I want to champion this game.
And I got about a day and a half of that before three
review codes came in. And I'm like,
got to pivot to that. Haven't played much more
Big Hops. Want to get back to Big Hops. But I need to chase
this and I need to do that. Let alone then just
the, as I put in there, like,
I really just want to finish the Diablo
expansion, so I'm ready for Blisscon.
But I have to dedicate time to go do that as well.
Zeno Blade was one of those for me where
Zeno Blade, of course, released in the rematch,
kind of helped me and gave me a reason to actually jump into Xenoblade.
Because I've always wanted to give it a college try.
But the quest for content is like, oh, I'm going to play a 60, 70, 80-hour GRPG while there's
other games I can't play for review.
And even now, it's like I'm 40-something hours in, almost 50 hours into Xenoblade Chronicles.
And there are games this month that I've had to be like, no, like I don't have time.
Like Densattack, for example, is a game that I was hyped about all year.
Couldn't wait for Densatack.
One of my most anticipated games of the year.
We got the code.
And I was in the X-hole.
The reviews out, I'm still in the X-hole.
And I'm like, looking, I'm like, oh, man, I would like to play this game.
People are saying it's one of their favorite games of the year.
And by that's my Finnish Xenoblade, I know there's going to be two to three other games that I'm already going to be into for review.
And I don't know if I'm going to be able to get back to Dension Tack without, like, carving out more time for elsewhere.
Yeah.
So the quest for content is definitely an underrated factor, I think, as far as how we're able to spend time in certain things.
I'll bring in
Samson XPU says
Sounds like friend Slop reminds Greg of running a team
And a business so it reminds him of work
Not exactly
Again there's so many metrics to success here
Where I feel like we're doing something
Mike like music says
What are Greg's thoughts on cosmetic only progression
Such as Sea of Thieves
I don't dislike it
Sea of thieves I had a great time with
Sea of thieves
Ran thin for me that I did
Yeah so C of thieves is an interesting
example of a never played
base game but when they added Pirates of the
Caribbean I came in me and Mike did streams
I had a blast and loved playing it
and then you know Mike didn't sign
on one night and I jumped on and played by myself
and did not enjoy it nearly as much like
that was and I think that was the
again Pirates part of it of like hey
we're going and completing a storyline here that's great
and then let's just go do stuff
I was like well I could just go do stuff in a lot of different
games and earn things and make my character better
and I'd rather do that
and then to close out here I'll close out with two more superchats
James Scolier writes in and says
In my opinion, we need more shows
like the Spider-Man trailer breakdown.
It's getting too chummy around here.
We need some more attitude, specifically towards Tim.
You remember this when Tim just had such a fucking attitude?
Such an attitude.
That brand-new day trial.
I don't know.
And then I never watched the piece of content.
It's a carryover of a games daily joke that it was that
Tim was accusing me of giving him attitude
on the brand-new date thing.
And then last one from the right Hidalgo
who says,
nothing wrong with you, Greg, with a heart of
Ogie. Thank you, especially since I learned to say your name.
And that is, did I say it right? I need to see it.
Because I was saying, let me say it again. Well, I need to see it.
Because remember the problem was I was changing go to dough or dough to go.
So I need to see it. Oh, Hidalgo. He would say, go. He would say Hidaldo.
And I always, I never heard it that way. The right Hidalgo. I always heard it as a G.
The right Hidalgo. And then right Hidalgo was like, he keeps saying my name wrong. I was like,
I mean, he's the white guy.
Yeah.
So I thought he was just saying like, well, the white guy saying Hidalgo instead of Idaalgo.
But it was, Greg was putting a D at the end instead of a G.
Hidaldo instead of go.
Did you listen to Casey did it?
There was a name.
There was a name that was spelled.
This is called what's wrong with Greg, right?
The name was spelled G-R-I.
Don't jump to the last name.
There was two other names that I wanted to pronounce perfect before it.
Pierre Lou.
Okay.
And then.
G-R-I-F-F-A-I-S.
Just spelling that out.
G-R-I-F-F-F-F.
Yeah, A-I-S.
A-I-S.
G-R-I-F-F-A-I-S.
Yeah, what would you think to pronounce that as?
I mean, it seems French.
Yeah.
It is, yeah.
Griff?
You're already off to a good start.
I don't know how to spell giraffe, so I started to say.
Oh, is that what you have?
He was like, he was like, Pierre Lou
Giruffa.
And I couldn't let it slide.
I was like, hold on.
No, we can't just keep going to the show.
I was like Mike during our Friday street
where he goes, Mike Lemons.
And I was like, uh, it's Limos.
There's no end there.
Anyway, we fixed Greg Miller today.
Yay!
Congrats.
Greg, how are you feeling after your first therapy?
Good, this was fun.
I like this.
Oh, yeah.
