Starting point is 00:00:39 for Thursday, December 18th, 20, 25. I'm one of your host, Greg Miller, alongside Forbes 30 under 30, a.k.a. New York game awards nominated, AKA! Puzzle Poppy, Blessing. Eddie O. Ye. Junior. Good day, Greg. Congratulations on all the compliments on the jacket.
Starting point is 00:00:59 Thank you for the compliments on the jacket. We've all been compliment of you, except Barrett. Except Barrett. Had nothing nice say about the jacket, apparently. That sucks. You hate to see that for Barrett, usually a very nice boy. when he woke up on the wrong side of the small hat today. Usually we're the small side. I was hoping I'd get him with that one. That was good.
Starting point is 00:01:17 My favorite color, burn orange. To your left, the one, the only, the master of hype snowback, Mike. Good morning, Greg. It's nice to see you. It's nice to see you, Mike. I hear you're having a bad day. A little tough start, but you know what? I'm up and moving, and I feel fantastic, Greg.
Starting point is 00:01:33 I'm excited to talk video games this year or this episode. We're going to look back on our year. to add. Kind of look forward to what next year will be with like, you know, our top tens of this year. And I'm pretty excited to share some fun ones with you. Ooh. Because I got some games to recommend both of you. I love that.
Starting point is 00:01:49 I love that. I got a couple games I need you guys to play. If you didn't know, this is the kind of funny games cast each and every weekday. We run you through the biggest topics in video games, whether they be reviews, previews or just topics we need to talk about. If you like that, we'd love you to pick up a kind of funny membership. Patreon.com slash kind of funny. YouTube.com slash Kind of Funny Games, Apple or Spotify, to get all of our shows ad free. Get your daily dose of me, Greg Miller, in a series we call Greg Way.
Starting point is 00:02:13 And of course, get good karma for keeping the lights and mics on for our 11 person small business all about live talk shows. Of course, if you are live right now with us, the way to be part of this show, YouTube super chat on YouTube.com slash Kind of Funny Games. Of course, we are talking about Game of the year, 2025, our final check-in. I need you to tell me what is on the top of your list. What do you think is going to win our list or maybe come in second place? And then, of course, just go on. We're going to talk about our recaps for Steam, PlayStation, a whole bunch of different stuff. So talk about your year in gaming to be part of this show.
Starting point is 00:02:45 Of course, no bucks toss our way. No big deal. Like, subscribe, share, ring the bell. If you have Amazon Prime, you have Twitch Prime. And we'd love it if you gave us that free 30-day subscription. Like I said, we're all about live programming. You got a big one coming up this weekend with Mike, Barrett, and Alyssa. Celebrate the end of My Hero Academia with Mike.
Starting point is 00:03:04 Barrett as they watch the entire final season live for the first time this Saturday at 5 p.m. Pacific live only on Twitch.tv slash kind of funny games. Has it been hard not to watch ahead, Mike? Or were you ready? I didn't even know what was happening. Great. So it's been great for me. I didn't even know what was happening until Barrett informed me.
Starting point is 00:03:22 But I'm very excited to watch it all because here's the deal, Greg. This is a story that everybody should know about. Okay, young Medoria, he looked up to all my and he wanted to be a hero, but he didn't have a quirk when he was born so he was quirkless, but then some things happened to him and he grew into a strong boy and he's got to face his toughest nemesis yet. It's going to be a great one. I can't wait. I can't either. Just like I can't wait for GDC this year when of course we're teaming up with our friends at the mix again for another spring game showcase. And the submission phase begins now. Submit your game at kindof funny.com slash spring showcase. If you're unfamiliar,
Starting point is 00:04:00 Each and every year we get together with the media indie exchange and help profile a bunch of indie game developers and their games as both a, hey, here's an on-demand indie showcase. Hey, here's a day of live streaming games from the office here in San Francisco. And then, of course, doing a big old party in San Francisco for other people can come play those games. You can go to Kindofuny.com slash game show, how to immediately lose that? Spring Showcase where you can submit your game if you're a developer. You can get a press pass. If you're a content creator, you get industry.
Starting point is 00:04:30 passive course and come to the party and have some fun. Today, we've already been cooking on our live programming schedule. Kind of funny games daily was Sony and 10 cent settling over that Horizon clone after Gamescast is going to be Avatar in review. Then the first stream is a sponsored five-hour
Starting point is 00:04:47 energy outer worlds two race between me and Mike. Who can get the most levels? We'll see. Then we have another stream with the one, the only Jack Patillo, checking out the last caretaker. If you're a kind of funny member, today's Gregway is going to cover a bunch of different things, including the differences between Cole and Portillo,
Starting point is 00:05:03 and I'm probably going to do it live, so you can go to patreon.com slash kind of funny if you want to be part of it live and have some conversations. Thank you to our Patreon producers, Carl Jacobs and Omega Buster, and Delaney the Somp Twining. Today, let's begin with what is and forever will be
Starting point is 00:05:16 topic of the show. Some call it the most wonderful time of the year, not the holidays, but the game of the year season, of course, where Jeff gives out his awards and we begin the award season, IGN, GameSpot, you name it, Eventually, you know, you go into dice.
Starting point is 00:05:34 But before all that, kind of funny, of course, comes back each and every year for kind of funny day, January 5th. I hope you join us for an all-day live stream. And then the next week, we go into our own top 10, finding out live with you what our game of the year is. Because you've never done a game of the year with us. We each draft a top 10 list that's weighted. We send it to Barrett, and Barrett goes into a hole and tabulates it into one gigantic top-10 list. It has already begun. Isn't that correct, Barrett?
Starting point is 00:05:58 I've seen you have erected walls around your desk so you can work without anybody seeing anything. Yeah, with some behind the scenes production stuff, my editing area has had to change this year. So I'm actually editing at my desk for the first time for game of the year. So I don't have like a separate room to hide away in so people don't get spoiled. So yeah, the old walls that we used to have in the lab, we still hung on to. So I was like, hey, Kev, let's move these and have them around my desk. So, you know, Mike isn't peeking to find out what the list is early.
Starting point is 00:06:30 He would. Look at that man. I said he would. I said he would. I didn't know. Shenanigans are afoot. Yep. Shened you to know that I'm working with some people.
Starting point is 00:06:40 Numbers will be moving. Me and Mike check in every so often to see where we're ranking. Numbers will be moving. As every year, Monster Hunter, and then I was like, where are we put in skate? That's all I need to know. I had two rules, Greg, and I followed them. As every year, I always encourage everybody to vote with their hearts because I think that is the fun of our list is seeing, you know, the math and the soul come together to see what our cumulative top 10 list would be.
Starting point is 00:07:07 Andy and I have already been in that production hole for the last couple months and we're excited to show what really what he's been cooking up and I've just been helping put together. Yeah, I mean, hats off to obviously Andy for all the graphic work and then all the organization you do on this Barrett. I think, you know, our top 10 is one of my favorite things and I am on the record is not enjoying a top 25. I don't enjoy arguing about games. I enjoy talking about what I love or don't like about a game. Sure, but not arguing about them. And I feel the way we do it is so great of what is your personal top 10? We put all that together, put math behind it, put it over there, and then that net's out and we find out what the kind of funny game of the year
Starting point is 00:07:43 is. And it's got surprises sometimes. And sometimes it doesn't. And so I like, we have this podcast. I'm not saying we like ever are on a script, but I feel like there's more of a skeleton to some shows than other ones. This is very much a blank document of Game of the Year checking. We have one game's cast before this year wraps up. We go on holiday break. We will come back and will be kind of funny day and then it will be before you know it blinking you miss it we're here with all the pomp circumstance everybody out here we're going through it so i like this final breath blessing of where are we at with game of the year yeah which i'm very excited to talk about this is one an idea that i had for an episode i originally i wanted it to be more deliberation because i thought
Starting point is 00:08:21 more people would be in the office but with it being just the three of us right i think this is going to be way more of a check in to see like what the vibes are and all that stuff but you know one of the things that I do like when it comes to the game of the year are the conversations leading in before we actually know what the thing is, right? So where we can break down, give the argument for, oh, wait, no, I love this game. Oh, this is why Blueprints deserve to be talked about. This is why Clear Obscure deserves to be talked about and see where people go from there as far as going home during the holidays, seeing if they may pick up a game and then
Starting point is 00:08:49 seeing what those votes are at the beginning of the year. Michael. Yeah, Greg. Is this just, though, another tiers of the kingdom, you? year where like really what we're going to talk about today is a start i want to do is of course what will be number two because my clear obscures running away with this yeah uh gregg i will tell you with very a hundred percent confidence that yes exhibition 33 will be running away with this year's kind of funny award there's no doubt in my mind when i look at the 11 of us and i add it all
Starting point is 00:09:19 up there's no doubt that this will be number one do you think it runs away more than other years because gregg you bring up tears of the kingdom obviously the one that the game of the year winner that had the most amount of points behind it for winning game of the year was Godaport Ragnarok. Yeah. Astrobot won last year not as heavily as other years, but not
Starting point is 00:09:41 skating by like Ratchet and Clank did. We're Ratch and Clank won our game of the year back in 2021 by like one point or something like that. I bring up tears of the kingdom because remember that games cast where we had said during the review of like, all right, cool, now game of the year is literally what's number two. Like I think that was the running thing.
Starting point is 00:09:57 And yeah, the scores were a bit different, I think, on how it netted out. But I do expect this to, well, I mean, how, you're doing it, you don't have to tell me different. I expect Expedition 33 to have a Ragnarok year, where it is like, we are spaced out. We are far away from the competition. Whatever two is is a distant to. Interesting.
Starting point is 00:10:15 Am I wrong, Wes? No, I mean, I think the difference with Tears of the Kingdom is that Tears the Kingdom had competition, right? Balders Gate 3 was such a, in fact, I think it, throughout the industry, Baldur's Gate 3, I think, was more of the winner, even though I, I think for us, Tears of the Kingdom won that year, right? Yeah, and Boulder's Gate 3 was our number four. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:32 And that was because of just personal preferences. And again, this is where I like the way we do it and who we are. You know, we're not IGN. We're not the gold standard for video game reviews. I think if it was that, you know, if you were to put down a ballot in front of me, right, and say we are voting on a bigger scale, you know what I mean? Even Game Wars, I guess. I'll toss it out there, right?
Starting point is 00:10:54 Because the way we do Game War is, I know I was talking about how we voted around. but like, you know, we send the thing, the ballot to all of us, and we put our names next to it, and then we vote on which one got the most. Like, if we were going in and I wouldn't, if we had to have a unified voice, even as somebody who, I didn't click with Claire Obscure, but if it was like we ought to vote objectively,
Starting point is 00:11:14 what's the, that is game of the year, like, period. But why is that? Why is it objectively clear obscure is the one? Is because the industry feels that, so we feel like we have to feel that? Or do you think that is, I mean, it's just me, right? So I don't want to put it on we as a company or whatever. I think for me, and this is definitely throughout the years and game of the year conversations and top 10 conversations, God, I love this podcast already.
Starting point is 00:11:34 I'm so glad you guys are here. Fucked him. IG and I always put that on my shoulders where the old story goes, right? It was Journey versus Walking Dead at one year, right? And we were in the conference room and I was arguing ride or die, ride or die the entire time for Walking Dead to get it to where it needed to be. And when it got down to, it went head to head with Journey, I got up in front of everybody and I was like, cool, we're voting Journey. like we are IGN. We are the gold standard of video game reviews.
Starting point is 00:12:02 When you're playing the Walking Dead and you fall through the floor and it crashes and it eats your save and it does. Like I, what I kept saying in that meeting was like when we say something's game of the year, that goes into a time capsule where people can look back and say that is the best this industry could do in that year. And that's, I don't know why then for when we do top tens, I don't feel that pressure of like, cool. Like I already said it like Octopath Traveler Zero is my number one this year. right but it's because i don't think kind of people are looking at the kind of funny game of the year list going oh this is a time capsule for how it's all banned not to mention i also don't think i'm the flying the ointment that's going to get in the way of skewing the scale where like it like there's no way for me to rob the system even as me and my joke around about it's not like
Starting point is 00:12:45 i'm going to jury rig it so i do make skate number one or something like that yeah i think oh i think the pushback that i'd give a little bit is that obviously everything we do here is math and i think that's the right way to go about it i think the way that's the way The way that we do Game of the Year is perfect for what kind of funny is. I do think, though, that if we had more of a discussion basis around it, I could see a Hades 2 rising to the occasion and taking it on. Because, like, for me, I look at my Game of the Year in my top two. I don't know if I want to spoil it.
Starting point is 00:13:12 I guess I've said this throughout the year, right? This could also change. You're going to make a place. This could change and move, right? But my favorite two games in no order are blueprints in Hades 2. And Clear Obscure is like further down the line. I love all these games, right? That's why Claire Obscure is still in my top 10 problem.
Starting point is 00:13:25 It's all said and done. but I think between how much I love Hades 2, between, I know Tim says player of scares is this game of the year. But I feel like if I had to sit down and talk with him, he would probably admit that he thinks Hades 2 is a better game. So here, but here's what I think, again, I love how we do it. Yeah. Is that I love the idea that when you come to Kind of Funny, you know you're coming for someone's opinion. You're not, and that sounds stupid, but you know what I mean? I don't think, nobody thinks of Kind of Funny the brand.
Starting point is 00:13:52 I think they think of Mike, Snowmike, Mike, from Kind of Funny, Greg from Kind of Funny. this, that, the other, right? Where it's like, you come here and you, I want those lists to be in a vacuum. This is what I did. So when we get to the table, we talk about why we loved that game and why we put it where it was.
Starting point is 00:14:06 Rather than it be, let's come to a consensus and let me convince you why this. And then we're back, because then we're back 100% to when it's me Colin and Clements in a room banging our heads for the top 25 PlayStation games. And I'm like,
Starting point is 00:14:17 I just don't, I don't agree. You know what I mean? I don't, I think my main thing is that I don't want it to be a clear up here is going to win kind of funny. because Claire Obscary is the industry consensus of this. Oh, I don't think that's the case at all. I think the way it stole Mike's heart,
Starting point is 00:14:31 I think even though it's not in your you're not one or two, I think it's going to be high enough in the list. I don't know where it'll be for a bear. I don't know where it's for a lot of people's right, but I think it's going to be so high that it's the game that's going to be on everybody's list at least, except for maybe yours. Correct. Yeah. I'm not even
Starting point is 00:14:47 convinced of that, honestly. And granted, I haven't talked to everybody, but like I don't know if this is a year where everybody votes for it and has on their list. And that's similar to Cheers of the Kingdom, right? Like, Cheers of the Kingdom won by 20 points and Mike was the only person who didn't vote for it, right? Um, Hey, Barrett, is Clips here not on your list? Is it not going to be on your list? I'm not revealing one way or another, but I'm just not convinced of like the like totality of like it running away with it, right?
Starting point is 00:15:15 I will love that. Even Ratchet and Clank, which was on everybody's list that year, only one by one point. And so, and I also am not convinced that it's going to be a unified every, even if everybody has it on their list, how unified people are of where it is on their list, you know? See, I guess my, and this is, again, why I love it. Shout out to Resolute, Super Chats. I love how kind of funny does Game of the Year because it makes every voice it kind of funny matter. I do too. And I think that's the excitement of it for me. But I do think the, and I'm probably, maybe I'm wrong, but again, thinking about it, talking on the show about it,
Starting point is 00:15:54 I think what will work for it, running away with it is that I think, I think if you played Claire Upscarrett kind of funny and you finished it, you're going to have that at least in your top five, if not top three. And I would then say the games that are in front of it, I think are going to be different for everybody else.
Starting point is 00:16:11 Exactly. Mike's going to have Kingdom Come Deliverance, like in this world I'm pitching. Mike would have Kingdom Come Deliverance really high. Roger would have Silent Hill F really high. You're going to have Blueprints really high. So it's not that everybody's putting one game above that game. If everybody played Silk Song and like if everybody had Silk Song in that top five too,
Starting point is 00:16:29 then I think it's another thing, right? But yeah, we're in this place where Claire Obscure is the, has the most penetration as far as like, you know, getting into every single person that kind of fight. Except for me, Greg, right? I mean, it got in for 10 hours, you know. That's more than just the tip. It was in.
Starting point is 00:16:43 Yeah. That's a thrown away through the game. But it didn't get to finish. You didn't get all the way. And so like, yeah, I think it's the exact thing you're saying, Greg, right? It's going to be on everybody's who's played at top five probably. Yeah. But yeah, everything above that is going to be different for every person.
Starting point is 00:16:59 Mike, you were putting up a two with Silk Song. Do you think Silk Song is going to be our number two? Yeah, if I had to guess, I think it will go. If you came to Mike right now and we're like, hey, give me what you think will be there. It will be Expedition 33 into Hollow Night's Silk Song as number. That is my bet right there. I think Silk Song over Hades too. Yes.
Starting point is 00:17:21 For our number two. Okay. And I feel like when Greg says, oh, X-T-33 will run away with it. I feel it's like, oh, holiday will be number two. Run away with it. I'll take that piece of bet. I'll take that piece of bet. Hit it.
Starting point is 00:17:34 I like that. Hit the music, Katie. Write it down. Hit the music, Katie. What's their last name? Katie who? Katie Butler. Where are you?
Starting point is 00:17:43 Katie G. What are you talking about? No, Mike created an entire new person named Katie Butler, who did end up in. our chat, yeah. I am not convinced that Hollow Night goes that far away with it. I don't know if of a majority of us...
Starting point is 00:17:58 What do you think is above it? I mean, just thinking about the numbers in terms of what a majority of us have played and more likely will have on our list, there's Donkey Kong Bonanza, there's even, yeah, like you brought up
Starting point is 00:18:15 Haiti suit. Like I am more convinced that Hollow Night will probably be in that like five or six range. Where is everyone on Donkey Kong though? I feel like, the disgusted your fucking face right now. Have we cooled on Donkey Kong?
Starting point is 00:18:29 Because there was a year where it's like, oh, we were going crazy for Astrobot. I love that Andy got mad at Astrobot. It's like, I like the Astrobot, Andy. Hey, little fun of it. I like Asperbot a lot. But like, have we cooled on Donkey Kong where it's not going to be a top three here?
Starting point is 00:18:44 Or do we do think it is a top five? It's not going to be top three. Well, exactly. Okay. I think Barrett's wrong about D.K. Bonanza being that high. Because I mean, Barry, you gave it an 8.5 or 8.8. I would give it an 8. A solid 8.
Starting point is 00:18:58 Yeah, like, I think you either played it and loved it or you played it that I was good or you didn't play it. I think, like, we have people that are in all three of those camps where me and Tim played it, absolutely adored it. But even as I'm talking, right, it's not in my top two. Who knows what's my number three? You know what I mean? Like, you know, you have me there.
Starting point is 00:19:15 You have Tim who I think won't have it in his top. and two Mike have you played bonanza I've played bonanza but it will not be in my top three there you go might not be in my top five I think bonanza is like lower on everybody's list but is that the ratchet and clank of it all that's the ratchet and clank of it all we're ratchet and clank was only let's see if we go back to 2021 it was Andy's game of the year and it was Mike's number three everybody else had it in that five six seven range he's got the numbers the back oh yeah I keep I I keep I I keep all this stuff just for the fun stats of it all, right? And so I think if one, two people have it in their top three and then everybody else has it somewhere on their list. And it's going to be that thing of like it. I think it easily makes top five. You know, sorry. Top five, but not top five. Yeah. We're talking about like who's taking top three. My thing is every single person that's played both Hollenite and Bonanza, I think might put Hollenite above Bonanza is my guess. So then it's a numbers game of who played what? But how many people is that,
Starting point is 00:20:16 bless. I feel like it's everybody but me, right? No, there's going to be three of us, I believe, who vote for Hollow Night and that's it. I thought more people played Hollow Night here. I played Hollow Night for 15, 20, whatever it was, and I really enjoyed it, but that's one of those things where... Enough to put it on your list? No, exactly. I feel weird because there's so many games I loved this year and played the shit out of it. And so for me to be like, I played 15 hours and really liked it and didn't get back to it, it won't be. Whereas I've been very vocal, right?
Starting point is 00:20:42 Of like, I'm playing Metroid right now. And as soon as I roll credits on Metroid, we're back to Donkey Kong. Because when I played Donkey Kong, I was so high on Donkey Kong that I want to make sure I put it on this list and I want to make sure I save it with my whole chest. Can I give you the surprise one? Sure. Because we're kind of, we got about a four right now. We got Hades. We got, I'm doing my own shit list over here. We got Donkey Kong. We got, Andy already went to chat. He didn't super chat. Can I give you the number four that like good side above Donkey Kong? Or maybe even top three. What about dispatch? What's the vibe in the office with dispatch? Because here's a sleeper pick that could all of a sudden be
Starting point is 00:21:16 coming number four. Yeah, you're right. And push Donkey Kong down. That's a great. That's a great call. Hades 2, Hollow Night, Expedition 33, to me, those feel like top three contenders that we all can agree will be in the mix. But there's a couple like Donkey Kong, now a dispatch that could slide in here.
Starting point is 00:21:32 You're back to a dispatch. And I think dispatch is up. Being so good, as we've all said here, right? Nine, nine, nine, and a ten, I think is what we did in the review. I can't remember. Being so good and also being so digestible, right? Love Hollow Night. I know I would have gotten to a point where I would have not been up.
Starting point is 00:21:48 I would have hit a boss and put it down and then been frustrated or whatever. And I would have come back to it eventually or maybe I wouldn't because I'm so busy. Whereas dispatch, everyone's able to play because it's what, eight hours or whatever it is? You're done on your way. Sit down, play it. Yeah. When we talk about everyone playing it, that'll be a game. I think that's easy on everybody's list.
Starting point is 00:22:07 Maybe one person doesn't have it, right? I just wonder how high it gets. I know we're back to the Russian Clink argument of it where it's like, I adore dispatch. but again, the gameplay of dispatch is kind of where I was like, man. So it's like, I feel like that's going to push it further down my list. Maybe I'll be wrong when I sit down to actually draft it. Can I ask a question here that I don't have a temperature read on at all? Where is kind of funny at with Metroid?
Starting point is 00:22:29 As always, Nintendo is so stingy with codes. So Tim got the code, was able to play, did a great review with Logan. And then we've all been, I see you signing out. I was playing it last night. I saw you sign on and start playing. So it's, and I know, Barry, you rolled credits this week and stuff. But we haven't had that group discussion because we've, been so busy and there's so many other headlines going on of where are we at with
Starting point is 00:22:48 Metroid? I'm not that far and I'm still, I'm, I just hit the Volt Forge. Yeah. Yeah. The very first time. So yeah, like what, maybe an hour or something like that? I want to stream it more. We were having a conversation right before this about games to play during break or
Starting point is 00:23:01 whatever. And I'm kind of like, I'm kind of burnt out. Isn't even the right thing, right? But like, I kind of want to use my break as a break. Of course. That said, I think Metroid's calling out to me so much that that might be my break. Like, I might just play Metroid, not even as a game. of the year thing, just a, oh, I feel like playing
Starting point is 00:23:16 Metroid Prime 4 thing, so a healthy way to play games. A healthy way to play game. Dude, I was thinking that last night was I was playing Metroid Prime 4. I'm like, man, playing games and not review, and it was pretty great. You know, maybe I will stop here. Maybe I won't, maybe I'll play skate. Maybe I'll go to this. Maybe I'll go to bed. I went to bed the other night. I was like,
Starting point is 00:23:33 I don't have to worry about this. I can just sleep. I'm going to see during my holiday break. I'm going to try to play 77 hours worth of Fire Emblem Three Houses in 11 days, which breaks down to seven hours a day. That's my goal. Play Octopath instead. I'm great. Help me get that on the list.
Starting point is 00:23:46 That's for our recommendations at the end. I like that. No, I'll, you rolled credits on Metro. I never, what do you think of Metro? Metro,
Starting point is 00:23:54 I think is a really good Metroid game until the last three hours and then I think it falls off of a fucking cliff. Gotcha, gosh, gosh, gosh. It's the, you know, I liked the kind of,
Starting point is 00:24:04 not open world, but that kind of hub, open desert area. Like, I thought that was cool. I thought that was interesting, a different way to kind of break up the close containment Metroid formula.
Starting point is 00:24:15 because I think a lot of this Metroid reminded me of Halo 1, and that's why I like the, you know, NPC characters that you become friends with and help you out because when you're cut off from them and once you go into a dungeon or what have you, you really feel that, like, isolation hit you out of nowhere. And it's like, oh, this is what Metroid's all about. And I love this.
Starting point is 00:24:36 These high arts are really high. I think there's some design choices and boss fight designs near the end that I think are really boring and it's kind of annoying. And then there's, there's a thing you have to do that reminds me of the Triforce quest
Starting point is 00:24:52 from the end of Wind Waker that I find very dull and annoying. And it's like, it's bewildering to me that like, that's a thing that was come up with for a video game in 2025. And those last three hours, I was like, you know, man, like I respect people who gave this like a, like a 10 out of 10 or what have you.
Starting point is 00:25:12 Really love this game. Like, I do not see it. getting to the last hours here. But I had a really good time. Cool. Metroid dread is still peak, though. See, and I think that's where I'm lucky slash special or whatever on the one.
Starting point is 00:25:27 We all know why I'm special. But I adore this game. And not a 10 out of 10, by and stress the imagination, don't get me wrong there. But I mean, like, as somebody who's never played a prime before. Like, when Tim re contextualized me,
Starting point is 00:25:39 I'd be like, no, it's a first person adventure. And like the scanning and the, I was like, oh, okay. Hey, cool. I was the, when I had seen Prime, when I had started remastered on a plane and immediately turned it off, I was seeing it as a first person shooter, seeing it this way. I'm like, oh, shit, this isn't at all what this is and done that. Like, I'm having such a great time that like I finally broke two nights ago where I went to home screen, went to the virtual cards, reinstalled, remastered, reinstalled dread.
Starting point is 00:26:05 Where it's like, I am I a Metroid fan? And I didn't know all these years. So it's like, I'm excited to go play those games, but I understand paling and comparison. to what it is or comparing to what it's come before. So for me jumping in, I'm like, this is so much fun, this is so good. This is such a great vibe game. That it's going to be on my list.
Starting point is 00:26:23 And I think it's going to be high. Leading up to it. I mean, it'll be high on Tim's. When I beat it, it could be high on mine. I'm not at a place yet where I'm annoyed with it or anything. Right now I see it in the back. It's in the pack. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:34 I'm going to give you some pack games. Here's two more pack games to talk about. Because I think now we're getting into that four through seven window a little bit later. We'll talk about the trail end at the end. But in the pack here, you have a Metroid, but let's add two more. Let's talk about Ghost of Yote and Death Stranding 2 on the beach. Yeah, right? Like now we're talking about pack games here of like, when we say PAC, what do we mean?
Starting point is 00:26:56 Like it's back of the pack? These are not the leaders. Yeah, they're not front runners. And they're definitely not a 10. They're in that five, they're in that three to seven range where they could be anywhere. Okay, three to seven. Okay. But like perfect example, Metroid, right?
Starting point is 00:27:08 So much hype leading up to that launch. And then it comes out. I haven't heard people go, that lit the. world on fire. Oh, yeah. Like, it's good, right? So here's Ghost of Yote and Death Stranding on the beach, right? It's like those didn't rule the world, but they were good.
Starting point is 00:27:23 That's right. But they were good. I could see a Death Stranding too making it to that like four spot even. Just like I think this coming year is going to remind me a lot of the ratchet and clank year for 2021 where scores were really tight across the board. And like it takes two was our number four. that year with like 32 points. So that's like, you know, two people having it in like that number one or two spot and
Starting point is 00:27:51 then like two or three other people having it somewhere on their list, right? I could see Death Stranding 2 sneaking its way up to the higher parts of the pack. My worry is you ride with it. My fear is that I ride with it. I don't see many other people ride. Because my fears that I'll have it highest on my list. And even with that, like, I don't think it's going to be numbered. I don't think it's going to be top three on my list.
Starting point is 00:28:12 You. Yeah, I don't think it's. Yeah. Yeah, it's another one we're in. Because Andy hasn't played it. Tim, I don't know. No. He hates you.
Starting point is 00:28:18 But like all of us, that's a lot of us right now. That is a lot of us. That's 202 will be on the list. There's four, five of us right there. That could be, that's a pack. That's a pack runner right there. Ghost of Yote, I'm more, I'm more curious about. Yeah, I'm curious about that one.
Starting point is 00:28:33 Does it make the top 10? I don't think so. I don't think it makes my top 10. I just make your top 10? No. Oh, wow. Okay, no, probably not. No.
Starting point is 00:28:41 For me, it will. But that is a pack animal. you and Andy. And Roger really loved that game as well. I think it sneaks in. I think it sneaks in that like kind of bottom, you know, like 10-9-8, 7-10-10-9.
Starting point is 00:28:54 Here's two more fun ones to talk about in the pack and in the back. Before you tell me about that, let me tell you, viewer-slash listener, about patreon.com slash kind of funny, YouTube.com slash kind of funny games, Apple and Spotify. I checked it out and I'm having a delightful time. It's called Once Upon a Galaxy.
Starting point is 00:29:30 I downloaded it and it's really easy to get started. I instantly started finding crazy combos, developing my strategy, and admiring the beautiful character arts. Something super unique and cool is its PVP, But there are no timers. Start a game, set your phone down for five minutes, and pick it up and jump back in right where you left off. How do they do this?
Starting point is 00:29:51 PVP with no timers? I don't know. It's magic. The games are quick, but really lives up to the phrase easy to learn and possible to master. I keep finding new stuff every time I play. I love the themes and the art of the cards from fairy tale heroes and villains to sharks with lasers on their heads.
Starting point is 00:30:08 I also love setting up sweet support characters on my backline to help boost my front line cards. Once Upon a Galaxy is crossplay on your phone and PC. Starting point is 00:33:38 33 but there are so many great games that came out this year. Shout out to Dead Take and Clutch Time Basketball deck Bill. Yo, I told you to play that one Bless. Clutch time basketball. Yeah, that you play basketball but you build the deck. It's fun. That's a good game. Shout out to that. Who said that?
Starting point is 00:33:54 That was Resolute again. Good job, Resolute. Shout out Dead Take. Shout out Dead Take. That was like honestly like I don't know if that'll make my top 10. But that experience of playing it with Bless in one stream was like one of my favorite experiences of the year. Yeah. Marty Pixelrod says an incredible year of releases. Of course, I released Prototype Wan.
Starting point is 00:34:14 Oh yeah, you did. During a stacked year. Kirby Air Riders is my game of the year. Then Yote is my number two. Mello, NightRane keeps impressing me with every update boss. The music should have been nominated for the TGA. And I believe the game overall is ahead of its time.
Starting point is 00:34:27 I've not thought about how Knightley fits into my year list. Scarlet Libra 99. my top five, number five, the last caretaker, shout out to Jack. Number four, Doom the Dark Ages, three, Expedition 33, two, Hollow Night's Silk Song, number one, Ghost of Yote.
Starting point is 00:34:41 I see, I got like a pack of eight out of ten to eight point five out of ten games. And this is something. The Dark Ages is in there with Ghost of Yote and like split fiction and stuff like that, where I'm like, I don't know, I guess I do know
Starting point is 00:34:55 which ones I'd put above the other, but they're all in that same category to me. The final one before, and I'll keep coming in, we'll pepper them in later, but JBC writes in it says number one expedition 33 number two arc raiders number three Hades 2 number four Ghost of Yote number five dispatch six six songs seven blueprints eight sort of the sea nine bonanza 10 absalom shout out to sort of the sea that's another like eight out of
Starting point is 00:35:16 10 for me that and that's my thing about this year which makes it so interesting the pack games yeah is that I feel like there are a few that we all look at go expedition sure Hades well these yeah these games that are like another but there are so many eights and eight fives, which isn't an insult. These are great video games. But then it is that everybody's pack is a little bit different in where you would go and like, well, ghosts even make our list, but so many of the ones I just read have it in the top three, if not one. And that's why, like, I think this year is going to be very similar to that, uh, Ratch and plank year where it's just like, every, every spot is going to be off by like one point or another. How do we get everybody here
Starting point is 00:35:53 to play and Roger and put it at like they're like, you know, just look that into your nine or ten spot. Let's just get it in the list. Because you and I are going high on it, yeah? I'm it probably will be in my list I don't know if I'm going on it. Mine'll be high and Roger yeah if you haven't if you miss my Greg way or Blessing stream that happened recently about it. Yeah one of those Greg games you'd all joke around about
Starting point is 00:36:13 about a very touching disorienting story of what's going on and I don't want to talk too much about it because I don't want to give it away but it is like damn we're doing something here and that's one of those games that yeah sticks with me and it almost has like that Florence art style and everything else too. Yeah it fucking hits it rips makes you cry. The best
Starting point is 00:36:29 Florence style game that I played since Florida Yeah, 100%. That's a great way to put it 100%. And you can beat it in less than an hour and a half. Mike, before we were going to break there, we did, you did start going into some other stuff you wanted to thought. Yeah, you brought up so well. It's like the pack games, those games that are like eight to eight fives that have just been great.
Starting point is 00:36:44 But in a year of just nonstop bangers, a solid top four, where do these fall? Because now it's going to come down to all of us voting. Where do you put them? Who's getting the most points? But some great polls here are blueprints, split fiction, doom the dark ages, Monster Hunter Wilds, Eldon Ring Night Rain, Silent Hill F. Did you remember, we got a Metal Gear solid this year? We did get solid dog.
Starting point is 00:37:09 I did forget about that. We got a Borderlands 4 that, yes, I know came out very buggy, but was the best Borderlands since Borderlands 2? And that game launched so poorly that nobody even knows that it's a good game deep down inside of it. Everybody forgot that a Borderlands game found this year. You know what we got that I was playing last night on my PS5 Pro? Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3 plus 4 that should be my top 10
Starting point is 00:37:34 Like with how much I played and fucking love that game at launch But it's again, it's to what you're saying All these games that it's like How do I pick and choose these games that I think Come in right under that highest of tears So good So good There's a giant list
Starting point is 00:37:50 Elder School's oblivion remastered came out There's a ball ex pit game that came out I think it's Lumines arise Lumines come on now I'm gonna ride on that That's gonna be in there And it will all come down to when everybody steps up, you have your one through fours that are probably be locked in.
Starting point is 00:38:05 But that four through 10, where's everybody putting them? What game is getting a little more love than others aren't? You know, it's going to be interesting to see. In the chat early on, somebody was like, Pokemon legend Z.A.
Starting point is 00:38:16 will definitely make their list. And there's not a chance. Like there's not a chance. It's like not with you and Clank. I am Andy. I don't think Andy likes it enough. I just don't, I think that.
Starting point is 00:38:26 Really, he says he loves it. He loves streaming it. He doesn't like the game. He loves streaming and making fun of it. It will be on his top 10, though. You think so? 100%. It'll be on the top of it.
Starting point is 00:38:34 See, I see it as the anti-ratche where everybody played it, but nobody's going to have it on the list. But everybody enjoyed it. Yeah. Man, ball pit. That's a great one. And that's when it gets so fragmented is when we get into the Ann Rogers. You know what I mean? Of like, we'll Liza P.
Starting point is 00:38:48 Two of us play these things and really love it and we'll, you know, put it on there. But how high are you going? So let's get real really quick. Yeah. Let's talk about some games that have a chance here. Okay. Split fiction. Is split fiction making the list?
Starting point is 00:38:59 It should. It will not. It should. That's a good game. Okay, well, let's hold that. I think it could break through number 10. You don't think that this is a 7 through 10 game somewhere on our list. I feel like that is a game that has had no juicy kind of funny.
Starting point is 00:39:15 I think that is a game we all objectively look at and go, nobody does it like Hayslight. But it's not we're all sitting here going like, oh my God. You know what I just, I have not heard us talk about it that way. Just for a reminder, right, last year, Call of Duty, Blackop Six and TechNate, come in at number 10 tied with 12 points each. Like the barrier of entry is lower than you remember, you know? So if a couple of people ride for it even the middle of their list. I just don't know who rides for it.
Starting point is 00:39:42 Are you either you putting it on your lists? Oh, probably on top of your head, you're not locked in. You're not locked in lower on my list probably. Yeah. But I'm a split feature defender. Cool. You and Tim? Because y'all did that.
Starting point is 00:39:53 Let's play. Yeah, we played it and had fun with it. I didn't like it nearly as much as it takes to. Man. I think some of the gameplay stuff they do is great with it, but the story overall has never had me. Barrett, you putting it on yours? Please.
Starting point is 00:40:07 What are you doing? No. Roger and Leanzas? I guess that might be, Andy and his nephew. That might be the anti-ratchet as well, right? We all played it, all enjoyed it, but just ends up on none of our lists.
Starting point is 00:40:16 Damn. How about Eldon Ring Night Rain? Man. Because here's the catch. Mike and Andy will have it high. Yeah. I think Andy's coming around on this game. I've already been very high on this.
Starting point is 00:40:26 So, like, where does that go? Because can we get a blessing? in this. Can we get someone else? I am turning around on it. And there that all of a sudden it's up. Because at the beginning, when it first launched, I was definitely of the mind of like, I enjoy playing this,
Starting point is 00:40:39 but this isn't great, right? Like, this feels like just a bunch of mechanics just glued together. And the more that we've played it and gotten to understand it, and now with the DLC, I can kind of see the excellent things about that game where I'm,
Starting point is 00:40:52 yeah, I'm higher on it now that I was months ago. I don't know if I'm high enough to be like this is the top five game by any means for me, but Meebia ends up on the lower end of my list. I think if you put it in the 5 through 10, if Andy puts it somewhere between a 3 to 5 and where I'll put it, it'll make the list. It'll make, yeah, like 9 or 8 or something like that.
Starting point is 00:41:12 Here's an interesting one that someone just reminded me of. Mario Kart World is a video game that came out this year. Yep. I don't know where everybody else's vibe on Mario Kart World is. I feel like another one that came and went. It was enjoyable for that and the nights we spent with it, but it never felt like it had a hold on it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:29 But it's such a toss-up with these pack games, where if they're, like, Barrett, you played the most out of it. I know you had the criticism of it. I mean, and the most, it's like I played 30 hours of it, right? And like a good chunk of that was when it was the week of my sunburnt legs and Jesse Pitelli and Michael Hymann were doing a lot of knockout tours. And I had no, nothing else to do, but stay, lay down in bed, play Mario Kart World and have King of the Hill on in the background. Yeah, and I don't know what Tim's vibe was on it, because obviously he's. Mr. Nintendo around here if he was going to put it on there somewhere. I would probably put Sonic Racing Cross Worlds
Starting point is 00:42:03 on my list above it. Right, right. Might be on my list. Sonic? No, no. Oh. I was like, wait a second. It was on your list. I three-starred every single Grand Prix with the motion wheel. Had a blast. I forgot you did that. Honestly, fucking props.
Starting point is 00:42:17 Thanks, oh, Mike might be the Mario Kart guy. I was game in this year. Yeah. Could be on there. There's like a lot. There's a lot of games here in the mix. Outer Worlds two, avowed. Are those getting any love from anyone, right?
Starting point is 00:42:30 Like, there's a lot of games. For me in the back half. I can see that not, you know, I'm just listening to games as we talk here, right? I've thought about this, but not intensely. I feel like that'll make, I think that's a shoe in for my top 10. But I think it is like a, hey, we're at 10, 9 somewhere in there. Like, that's like, you know. We got to have a real talk, Mike.
Starting point is 00:42:52 Rematch was a good game. It was a fantastic game. It was a fantastic game. It was a fantastic game. I don't hold it to how good it was. I hold it to the live service aspect. But like fuck that shit. But like,
Starting point is 00:43:03 but like I respect the game. They dropped the new season yesterday. It's gone. We haven't tried it. People need to call me. You're making a live service game. You call me. I'll help you.
Starting point is 00:43:13 What if me and you, we stay in the office tonight. We play rematch. Now, here's a great one. You bring up rematch, bless. There's games like Keeper out there.
Starting point is 00:43:21 Oh, man. Keepers on my list. That's on my list. Keeper is a crazy one because that was one that you all did the review. on. I was so stoked on. I downloaded it and just haven't made time to it. But then again, I feel like after the review, the conversation just never was here. I'm not, and doing it
Starting point is 00:43:37 wrong, conversation doesn't dictate if it should or shouldn't be on your list. It's just that idea of like, I keep forgetting about it. Where I'm like, I got to make time for this. I, you know, this, again, my break is finish Metroid, finish Donkey Kong, try the altars, hopefully get addicted to it. And so it's like, I, and it's like, oh shit, I should fit keeper in there based on everything you guys talked about for it. I mean, keeper's a short game, so you can easily fit it in between. Mike got it done in 30 minutes. Just me. It's like three hours.
Starting point is 00:43:59 How long did you take me three to four hours? Yeah. Super easy. Super easy. You should play that, Greg. It's a great game. I think you appreciate it. Really good game.
Starting point is 00:44:06 They did a great job with that one. But like, yeah, then you get into arc raiders and battlefield. Or anybody voting for that? Where are those games? Andy. Do an awakening? Like, those are three games that like you would think me and Andy would be riding for. And I think that it will not get enough love.
Starting point is 00:44:23 There's no Nick on this panel. Do we get a vote? So now the sudden it just gets Mike. No, because Nick's list is going to be three games and it's going to be the three games that he played. Like I would love for Nick to have like a full, here's my top 10.
Starting point is 00:44:34 That's not the video gamer that Nick's definitely played at least 10 games. Nick should be allowed to just do that came out in 2025. When we do like the might, we're going to do the, you know, after the game of the year, we then do the top tens for everybody. We should have Nick come in for his top ones just so we can talk about doing awakening.
Starting point is 00:44:48 Yeah. And then like skate is a great one as well, Greg. That's you and me. That's you and me. We're talking about all these pack games. is we can put skate in the thing. Yeah. I mean,
Starting point is 00:44:58 spoilers. Skate is a 7 through 10 trailing the pack game that could possibly make the list depending on how high Mike and Greg put it. And that's my thing. It's like, you can all roll your eyes,
Starting point is 00:45:08 whatever. I would bet that skate makes it this year because me and Mike are going to go in there. It's just how high we're going to go with it. Like you got to like there's a 7 through 10 window and like all, every year that we do that it's like, this is a crap shoot.
Starting point is 00:45:22 Anything could make this because all takes is one jabroney to put it too high. another person to put it semi high and it's on there. Like Barrett said, only takes 12 points. Yeah, and like even to get into that eight, nine spot, like, remind me what year immortality came out. That was 2020. Okay, we're not going to compare immortality to skate though.
Starting point is 00:45:42 In terms of numbers and how many people are riding for it, yes, it's two people. Immortality was only voted by you and Greg. But like me and what did we put it at? Yeah, what did we put it at? What was in my list? That was like number three. That was number two. And that was for you, Bless.
Starting point is 00:45:56 I was number three for Greg. Yeah, I don't think these guys are putting skate at their two and three. Don't give you that look. Don't put skate at your two or three. You'll find out. At their four or five, though, like, you'll find out, you know. So, like, there's a lot of, like, that's seven to ten. If Mike put.
Starting point is 00:46:12 Just for this specific conversation, he tossed on my PS recap. If Mike put Kingdom Come Deliverance too high enough, does it make the list at all? I mean, do I find the only person that would ride that, right? So, like, there's your problem there. But like, two people. Number one, tech and eight got in there. was my number one. Skate number four
Starting point is 00:46:27 right there, 32 hours. That's just on PlayStation. I don't know how much I played it on PC handheld, how much I played it. Bring up my top five on PlayStation now. Because I think I got,
Starting point is 00:46:34 oh no, that's Greg. I was about to say, I got HALS us on there. That just not helps us. Also, blessing, you weren't the only person who voted for Tech and 8 that year.
Starting point is 00:46:42 I just want to remind you. Wait. Oh, was that you? No, Tim had that. I forgot. He fucked with the story mode. So,
Starting point is 00:46:48 like, I think it's nearly impossible for a game to get on the list with only one game of the year vote, as we've seen with Greg for the last couple years. Yeah, see, this is my top five. And like, I can't even see my number five.
Starting point is 00:47:00 I think it's outer worlds. It's outer worlds too. Yeah, those are on my list. Doom the Dark Ages. It ain't making it. Outer Wild's making it. Outer wild, I mean, if that was allowed, Outer Wilds would probably be my number one.
Starting point is 00:47:12 Yeah. That's raining too, though. It's a good game. It's a good game. It is a good game. It is a good game. I'm excited for this. All right, let's super chat in here
Starting point is 00:47:21 and see what else we got going on. All right. Tavin's super chat. It says, my game of the year by a mile is power wash simulator two got robbed for best sim at TGAs. I get it won't be everybody's favorite, but the quality is high
Starting point is 00:47:32 and I lost hours every night for weeks. Those who ride for it, ride for it, my man. You're not alone. Remember that. Devincer wrote in with a diverse top 10. Dispatch, Expedition 33, Death Stranding 2, Donkey Kong, Mafia the Old Country, Doom the Dark Ages, lost records. Cronos
Starting point is 00:47:50 the New Dawn, avowed in Ghost of Yote. Look at that. A few on there. records enjoy. I'll let you know. The joke around with lost records, obviously, is I'd done that preview, thought it was cool.
Starting point is 00:48:00 Then they did the stupid episodic thing, and I was reviewing something else. So you, Joey, and Raj played it for review. None of you went back for episode two. I heard nobody cared about it. I have then just been lost.
Starting point is 00:48:12 I'm like, I should play that. I saw Jerica from JK Games and of course a contributor here and kind of funny. She put up a story about it. I'm like, do I need to play this? She's like, yeah, probably.
Starting point is 00:48:20 I'm like, okay. Like, you know what I mean? It's just on the fringes and when we're talking about so many. games I know I'm gonna love that I need to get to I need to get to does anybody else ride super hard for blueprints I do oh you do oh yeah oh I forgot about it put his hand up to Barrett me Kevin you we go crazy for that game doesn't vote sadly Kevin won't vote but like
Starting point is 00:48:38 what if we can make Kevin and Nick one person there you go that may it'll be a combined total of 2025 games split six games what then split their lists and three of those entries would be Kevin putting blueprints three times which should be allowed I ride with Blueprints I think like us three And I think you guys are gonna have it high Like that's on the top 10 As it should be great game
Starting point is 00:49:03 Uh Whiz Pig tactic says Octopath Traveler Zero is my game of the year The King Partist story arc dot dot dot man dot dot dot dot dot What are relentless emotional roller coaster Agreed But JJ baseball comes in and says Mike I need you to ride for Megabonk Mega Bonk
Starting point is 00:49:20 Bro get bonked That was a fun time Will that make the list? No, probably not. Will Andy have it on his list? Well, I have it on mine. Andy really liked that game. He was bonk and he really liked a lot. Like the person I hear from the most in terms of like, yeah, I really like that game. But this is an insane year for games. Like I hear him say that a lot. So it's like, even if he really liked something, I think it's he's going to have a very contentious list of the shit that he really wrote for this year. Is he putting bong? 7 to 10. That's the question. Now Andy keeps popping in chat and saying that I should finish. Not super chat. No. No. Not super chat. No, no. He's saying I should finish Citizen Sleeper 2. He did invite you to his apartment before me. I'm pretty uptight about that.
Starting point is 00:50:01 So I can take some Adderall to finish the thing. He wants some of his Adderall to steal some of his Adderall to focus on Citizen Sleeper 2. Yeah, what does Adderall do? Does that just make me focus? Hyper focus. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. What about like a dragon pirate yakuza and Hawaii? Why are you wasting my time?
Starting point is 00:50:15 Could Mike and Roger swing the vote to get that in there? What is your actual passion for that game, Mike? with Roger buying me in and out could be high Oh my God Again I would really love for you guys To not make this a fucking Fantasy critic bit
Starting point is 00:50:30 And like actually vote with your heart You know they will I don't trust those two anymore I really don't Also Andy is right Lock in it's awesome About Citizens Sliber A great game
Starting point is 00:50:41 Great game And Greg like I would Yeah I mean I didn't finish it by this I was like 15 hours Yeah I'd maybe 10 Well I've finished it in 11 So I know I'm way off then But I did play
Starting point is 00:50:52 I talked about out of the shows. I'd encourage you to go back. God, is that short shit I should go back? Yeah. There's one game that will upset me that I won't make the list that I wish got a lot more love here and would be my recommendation for all of you to play. And that's Schedule 1.
Starting point is 00:51:06 Schedule 1 was a fantastic time. They did a great job in the life sim category. Fun, dumb, derpy, just a good time making drugs and selling drugs. Is that a single player one? No, it's multiplayer as well. You have your friends make drugs with it. Because he's the thing, right?
Starting point is 00:51:22 That game is fantastic. I know you want more multiplayer games than top 10. You got to invite me to play the multiplayer games with you. I got nobody to play these games with. Okay. Holler at me. Next year, get ready.
Starting point is 00:51:30 You're in that booth with me. We're going to have some fun. A lot of people were talking about you and me doing a Baldur's Gate multiplayer. That would be the way. Well, because, yeah, I think Mike also mentioned it. I'm trying to get Baldur's Gate back again. Let's do it. I'm in.
Starting point is 00:51:40 I'm in also. We're going to get us back. Let's do it. Let's do a run of us on the streams or whatever. How many people can you have played Balders Gate 3? Four. It's four. this is the dream team we don't
Starting point is 00:51:49 we got it we got it we'll add roger no he loves roger he does love him more than anything in the whole any love for kazan no i don't think anyone will love kazan man yeah i think that's like one that comes in at andy's number 10 maybe i don't even i don't even think so man he put so much time into it he was dedicated to that game i think that's just the genre
Starting point is 00:52:07 like first berserker kazan was one that i put in a lot of hours into mainly dying against a big lizard man who killed me for about 10 hours straight and it was like fun or whatever, but I think as a soul's like type title, it's like a seven. I don't think we got space for sevens. While we're talking about things that'll be on our list,
Starting point is 00:52:25 like, don't even, let me say it, all of it before anyone turns on me, right? I'm going to be disappointed that hell as us is not on our top 10. However, I understand that it shouldn't be, if that makes sense. It's going to be on my top 10, but not in a one, two, three slot anywhere up there, right? So, but it's like,
Starting point is 00:52:42 I wish... More people check it out. I just wish, yeah, we get to talk about it. They didn't release at the same time, is Hollenite Silkland. Yeah. You have a couple of those games because I have a couple of those. Like my perfect 7 out of 10
Starting point is 00:52:53 that I love like a 10 out of 10 right that would make that joke. It's like for me, two point museum, I wish more people play it out. That game is above a 7 out 10, but like no one will play it here. And then another one, sniper elite resistance.
Starting point is 00:53:05 I put so much time into that game. That is my 7 out of 10 game that I love like a fucking 11 out of 10. And I would put that high on my list if there was even a chance of scrapping into the top 10, but it won't. So it will go into the correct place.
Starting point is 00:53:20 The ones I have we've already mentioned, right, Keeper, I don't, like, I genuinely don't know if that game is going to make it in. And then, and Roger as well, like I worry that's not going to make it. For me, it's, you know, and this is one, it's similar to Greg of, like, it won't make our list,
Starting point is 00:53:35 but I totally understand, but this is one that, like, I will ride for is probably somewhere in the middle of my list is unbeatable. And I know, like, that's one that, like, I was really looking forward to the story mode, and I think that story mode is still kind of a mess, but even so, like the ending of that game still meant a lot to me,
Starting point is 00:53:52 but it's purely just that arcade mode. That arcade mode, I think, is some of the most fun I've had in a video game this year. But I completely understand that, like, that's not going to scratch a lot of people's, like, it's right now. Maybe Tim plays it, but I don't even know if Tim will ride for that in any sort of way she performs. As our stats man and the man who builds all this, Erk the Imp Superch says, I'm expecting this year to have the most. most ties from how large the spread of great games is in all genres.
Starting point is 00:54:21 Are you worried about that as well? Yeah. Like, I've even, so Andy, you know, Andy is our kind of like art director in terms of the game of the year stuff. And he builds a lot of templates for me. So when I have the finalized lists, I don't need to bother him anymore. And I can just make it all. And he's made it all simple.
Starting point is 00:54:39 This is the first year where I was like, you know, we put the pictures in the front of the desk to show like, okay, this game's number 10. games number nine. For the first time ever, I have asked him to make a template for a possible three-way tie. I'm really worried about where it's all going to land. But also, like, it's interesting, too, right? 2024, I think we had, let's see, 12 games make it onto our top 10. So that means there were two ties.
Starting point is 00:55:08 We had 45 games that were voted in. The same with 2023. There were two ties. and that was 36 games voted in. Let's see, 2022, only 11. There was only one tie in 2022, but that was 42 games voted in.
Starting point is 00:55:27 And then with 2021, there was only one tie, and that was 34. And so it really is just going to depend on where everything lands. Like, how much crossover there is between all of our lists or not. I, like, that stuff, like, I think matters less.
Starting point is 00:55:45 It's just, yeah, it's going to be interesting to see how it all maths out. I'm really scared how many times there's going to be this year, though. But I also said that last year, and it wasn't too bad. Before we get out of here, let me bring you through more super chats. Okay, Mr. Hawks says after Expedition 33, I was all about pirate Yakuza. Yakuza Zero, director's cut, and D.K. Bananza. Mad Rocks became a member for 23 months and says, my top five is Expedition 33, Silk Song, Hades 2, Lies of Pete, Overture, and Hollow Knight.
Starting point is 00:56:13 Dean Brown is representing Mike over there. Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is my game of the year and it's not even close. Both hilarious and emotional, a true evolution of the Bethesda slash obsidian formula. Mike, never forget Semine. Samin. Thank you for that. Yeah, Dean Brown saw me instantly smile when you brought that up. That's one I'll never forget.
Starting point is 00:56:33 It's like there's moments in games that have just that special. There it is. And it's like that. Samin is one of them. I'll never forget that. I'll never forget it. We roll into another one here. Bob says still need to finish Expedition 33 and Death Training 2, but my game of the year is dispatched.
Starting point is 00:56:49 Didn't know how much I missed Telltale style games. The Portland Kevin says Blueprints is mine so far. I released a 2.5 hour podcast about it last week. Wanted bless on there too, but scheduling is hard. PlayStation Plus Game Club. Snow 13. Game of the year is Expedition 33, but a close second is Octopath Traveler Zero. August, wow.
Starting point is 00:57:11 Rabbit of Canterborg and the rabbit. My game of the year is Hollenite Silk Song definitely. Definitively, I should say. One of my favorite games I've ever played. Surprise game for 2025, blueprints. As someone who loves board games, blueprints is addicting. And as someone who goes to escape rooms nonstop.
Starting point is 00:57:29 You can see why Kevin Coelho is obsessed with it as well. That is extremely his shit. Yeah. Herman Homeboy, my game boy, my game of the years are usually games I've played in the year. along with Expedition 33 Blueprints and Dispatch I finally played and enjoyed
Starting point is 00:57:43 Death Loop and the Messenger Oh yeah Hell yeah Alright, yeah Zime has a birthday tax Happy birthday Very grateful to be here After dealing with lots of immigration
Starting point is 00:57:52 procedures this year In winning it all Listening to kind of funny Got me through it all Well congratulations If you're somebody who's listening And you haven't checked out Blueprints but you love board games
Starting point is 00:58:01 If you like betrayal at House of the Hill Think that But in a video game In like a really cool format Right like if you played that That's a board game Where you are building out house as you go when things happen.
Starting point is 00:58:12 Immediately blueprints reminded me of that. And so you check it out. Gondor's Condor says, Hades 2 is my game of the year with nearly 75 hours in version 1.0 after just over 100 hours in early access. God damn. Very impressive. And then to end here is a JBC comment.
Starting point is 00:58:28 2023 was a goat year for gaming. 2025 is better. Wow. How's that feel for everybody? 2023, of course, Balders Gate, Tears of the Kingdom, Spider-Man 2, Reserville 4. Alan Wake to Jedi Survivor, Street Fighter 6, Diablo 4, Cyberpunk 277, Phantom Liberty.
Starting point is 00:58:45 Man, I mean, I think that year had higher highs, but I do think there's something about the variety of 2025 and, like, there being a game for no matter who you are, there's something out there that's different and unique for you. I think that's special. I agree with that. I think you sum it up so well. Higher highs for sure, but the quantity of great games,
Starting point is 00:59:03 like we talked about earlier, I think is, I'm not ready to say better, but whatever. Barrett? Two things I want to throw out there. Please. I'm going to do this officially on the podcast, even though I've been an annoying blessing about it off camera. Blessing?
Starting point is 00:59:16 Just whenever the mood strikes, I think it would be a really fun stream for you to at least check out the Seance of Blake Manor. A game I've only put in an hour or so into, but that is one that I'm trying to hold myself. That is kind of like my last, like, big game I want to play before hopefully I can finalize my top 10 because the first vote that comes in from morning of y'all,
Starting point is 00:59:39 I cannot touch my top 10 anymore. So that's when I'm trying to get in there to see how I fully feel. But if you loved Blueprints this year, if you fucked with the Golden Idol games, and you like kind of creepy vibes, I think this one is free. And it's one of the best reviewed games of the year. And so that's why I'm like, I feel like for us that like really fuck with that stuff, I think we really owe it to ourselves to at least try it out. And then another one for you, bless.
Starting point is 01:00:03 And I know Andy you're watching or maybe you're on, maybe you're busy now. but um, Absalom. I would love for you all to, to go back and check that out, uh, just because that is one that I, I really fell in love with.
Starting point is 01:00:15 And if you're looking for something that's more of a, turn your brain off kind of thing, blessed. Like, I think that's a fun one of just like, putting on, you know, whatever documentary you want to watch and then,
Starting point is 01:00:25 uh, putting Absalom on and just having a really fun time with like, beat them up, uh, gameplay, moment to moment gameplay with a very satisfying roguelike structure similar to Hades that I think you would enjoy with a really fun, like Saturday morning,
Starting point is 01:00:38 cartoon art so. Thank you. You just remind me I got to finish the Diddy Duck. Appreciate it. I didn't want to say it, but I knew like that's what you'd been watching. Everybody, game of the year is going to be very, very interesting after this holiday break. Remember, you get one more games cast out of us tomorrow before Kind of Funny takes the rest of the year off. In returns on January 5th, 2026, our 11 year anniversary for a huge stream of shenanigans. then one week later on January 12th, we will do game of the year and find out what's going on.
Starting point is 01:01:11 A.K. says, Greg, have you tried the Berlin apartment? No. It was on my wish list. It snuck out. Somebody mentioned it. I was like, what, really? And I have not played the Berlin apartment. I know I need to. We are excited to bring that to you after we get all of our top tens to bear it and have a great time. So we will see what happens on Monday, the 12th, for one gigantic game of the year discussion.
Starting point is 01:01:28 Of course, although we only have one game's cast left. I heard you don't want to miss the games cast, too. I'll tell you what, you don't want to miss tomorrow's games cast. Oh, geez, fantasy critic, rat. You do not want to miss tomorrow's games cast. I don't know anything about fantasy critics. So I'm going to be really excited to see who won this year. But I would say I would tune in tomorrow right after Games Daily.
Starting point is 01:01:50 Your final games cast of the year is going to be something special. Don't miss it. Of course, today there's still content before that happens. We're going to go from this in, in review for Avatar from that into the sponsored five-hour energy at our world stream from that. Jack Patillo shows us the last caretaker. Of course, then the programming day starts a new tomorrow with kind of funny games daily,
Starting point is 01:02:09 this abomination of a games cast. Then game showdown. Oh, yeah. Go down. I mean, we don't have to do the show. We can just have Tim give me the belt. Because we all know, I've an insurmountable lead of stars,
Starting point is 01:02:23 and I'm sure there's no shenanigans. I wouldn't say insurmountable. I feel like Team Purple's right there. No, no. They're always surprised me. Everybody, this has been another episode of the Kind of Funny Games cast. Thank you for hanging out with us
