Yo, what's up? Welcome to KnaF Funny Games cast for Wednesday, December 20th,
2020.
And one of your host's blessing, Adi O'Ealier Jr.
Joining me is The Master of Hype, Snowback, Mike.
My main man, good to see you again.
Happy Friday, Big Dog.
We're back again together.
And this time we brought Greg.
And of course, right now, chat, we're looking up awesome Tiny Desk concerts for Greg Miller to go out and enjoy.
Never heard of this show.
Crazy how you never heard of Trieds.
I have heard of Hotlands.
I have watched a lot of the show.
I don't say Tiny Desk is the Hotlands of music for sure.
Oh, we'll see. That's why I wouldn't know about it. I don't care about it. That's crazy.
There's a piece of you think outside that loves music, though. You do enjoy music.
You memorize all the songs. I know. You know the lyrics. I mean, I like music.
You just don't love it. But I'm not going to, I don't, there's a small desk with people singing around it. Why do I go see that?
It's a tiny desk, first of all. And they have the best people singing around it.
You will not besmirch the name of tiny desk.
Who hosts it? It's not really a host. No host.
How small is the desk? Very small.
You know, I don't even know if I've seen the desk.
The large desk.
Is there even a desk?
The desk.
I don't remember the desk.
I just remember the artists
that perform around
I guess what has to be a desk, right?
Yes.
You know what I'll never understand?
People who are obsessed with nine inch nails.
Yes, I'm talking about Lucy James.
Okay.
They got one song about fucking like an animal
and everybody's like,
oh, this is just, they're the best.
Fucking like an animal.
I'm not heard any nine inch nails.
Them and.
Whoa.
Shut up.
Shut up.
Because that's a lie.
Do I look like somebody
who's listening to nine inch nails?
It has penetrated the fucking
world. You've never heard I want to fuck you like an animal?
No. I want to feel you from
the inside. I'm picking eye contact
the whole time. I want to fuck
you like an animal. Absolutely
not. Bullshit. What year? What year did this
song? We're going to turn it on during the break today.
You think I've heard an old nine-inch nail
It is a rock song. Dude, it's fucking
in all the trailers and shit. I've barely
heard like any other rock band.
I know. Blessing. Do you know
who Trent Rezner is? Yes.
He's the guy that did the Challenger soundtrack. He's working on
Interlactic. Atticus Ross. Yes.
they are nine inch nails.
No way, really?
Yeah.
Oh, I like those guys.
Yeah.
I didn't know.
It's called closer.
You've never heard the song.
I thought they just made techno.
Oh.
Techno.
Oh, no, you're thinking of Dashpunk.
Oh,
little guys.
We're computers.
Oh, this is fucking great.
Robots.
From both of the nine inch nails
from Cleveland.
Shout out.
Also, that's Greg Miller.
Hi.
Who's never heard of.
What trailers?
He's never heard of Tiny Desk before.
Yeah, make sure to tweet at Greg Miller
with your best tiny desks.
What is crazier, everybody?
I've never heard of Tiny Desk
or he's never heard the song closer.
That's way crazy.
I think in
you know,
our modern day stuff,
I think it is weird,
Greg,
that you've not heard of Tiny Desk.
Blessing who,
you know,
grew up more with,
like,
hip hop and like all of this stuff
who's not paying attention to rock.
I,
like,
that's a surprise me.
I grew up in R&B,
hip hop,
maybe some idiom.
Little EDM.
Maybe, yeah.
I only heard.
I only heard.
I only heard bands in like video games.
Scrillx.
Oh, man, I love some Skrillix.
Who is he calling?
Lucy.
Is it an MPR thing?
Hi, Greg.
You're on a stream.
It's Greg.
How are you?
I'm good.
I'm at Kaiser.
That's fine.
It's a simple question.
Don't worry.
It's a bit, but you don't have to be loud.
You don't have to be like.
Blessings never heard 9-inch nails closer.
The song Closer.
Oh, my God.
And so my question is, I don't believe that's possible.
What trailers has it been in?
For a while, it was like in everything, everywhere.
It's the opening of seven, the movie seven.
Oh, movie seven.
No.
Okay, okay, okay.
Trailers-wise?
Oh, I can't sing.
All right.
All right, thank you.
Can you watch it with him and like just watch the music video?
Oh, man, watch the music video.
Sure.
Well, I'm thinking we're live with a game set.
I think we might have to put him in headphones and have him watch it
and kind of he reacts that way.
Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
All right, I'm doing hosting movies.
I can't just tune down.
We all put on headphones.
We all put on the headphones together.
I put on one in my ear.
You put on the other.
I mean, what?
It's not like it's that hard.
You know what I mean?
People can wait the two and a half minutes.
You know what I mean?
They can listen to it with you.
Well, no, we'll talk.
You just, you know, me and Mike can carry the show.
Go get your headphones.
Go get your headphones.
He's got it in his pocket.
Of course.
I don't have my pockets on my dog.
Are we really doing this?
Are we really doing this?
Are we really doing this.
Let's have some fun.
I think, because this is a fucking song.
Oh, she wanted the music video.
It's that big of a deal.
It's a big deal.
It's a big deal.
A nine inch nails.
Yeah, nine inch nails and corn used to haunt my dreams during MTV, TRL.
You know what I mean?
We used to get those scary music videos from them.
Yeah, yeah.
And they would, like, haunt my child dreams.
And I was like, man, I can never see corn again.
I hope that they're not in the top ten.
I hope they're not in the top ten.
Okay.
This is uncensored.
Yeah.
So, so,
So Barry, what I want you to do is leave it in this shot, all right?
Well, let Blessing listen to the song.
Well, Mike and I talk about video games, all right?
That was a jog.
You were fast about it.
Why is my best the furthest away from this studio?
Can we bring up the music video but not have the music playing?
So people can at least watch the imagery.
Not a shot.
Even visually, they'll take that shit down.
We got to see it.
You know what I mean?
I'm going to bring it up too because I like that.
Well, no, you got to talk to me.
You're having a conversation.
I'm booing up.
Let me know when I should press play.
Oh, whenever you're, you got the link?
You were watching?
I got the link.
I got the music video.
Okay, okay, cool.
It sounds great.
It's four and a, it's like four minutes.
Just do a bit of it.
Just do a bit of it.
It's fine.
All right.
I'm pressing.
Two minutes tops.
You're fine.
All right.
He's doing it.
He's playing that.
Greg,
it's Friday.
Happy Friday, man.
I believe it's the final games cast of 2020.
You look very nice in your Ghostbusters.
You look very nice in your fall guy's sweater.
Yeah.
I wasn't wearing it at first, but I thought when I saw you two, I got to put it on me.
Well, it's upsetting right?
that like, we did a big meeting yesterday,
get ready for everything.
And it was like, okay, great.
And then, of course, I got to host a show.
Tim doesn't have a sweater.
Tim, not in one.
What the hell?
Roger, not in one.
What the hell's going on?
You know what I mean?
Like, where are the goddamn sweater?
It's very simple.
It's one day out of the year.
Let's have some fun right now, you know?
Yeah, yeah, exactly.
So, yeah, it's like, there it is.
I was just going to say, let's take a look at blessing right now.
He's doing a little bit of a giggle right there.
He's got a face on like.
It's not a traditional music video.
Yeah.
But again, this is my point.
my point of this is why are people so obsessed
with nine shows you. I definitely know this long.
Told you.
Fucking told you.
Stop and then.
It's done.
That's all I wanted from you.
I just wanted you to admit.
I just wanted you to admit what was happening.
But yeah,
Greg still doesn't know Tidy Desk.
That opening though,
you let me desecrate you.
Yeah.
You let me complicate you.
Yeah.
Oh, that's sexy.
That's sexy, dude.
Sabrina Carpenter's taking it in places.
Oh, man.
I'm like, I'm blushing right now.
Well, back to host of the
gamescast. All right, well, let's get into this games cast. Remember, this is the
kind of funny games cast. Each and every weekday, we get together to talk about the biggest

of a free screen. Greg, what's happening that day?
Ladies and gentlemen and NBs, a lot
is happening. Two weeks from today, January
3rd, we return to the office. That's right.
Today, of course, is your final day of program. Which camera
am I looking at it, by the way? None of the lights are on, but I can't see my own eyes.
It hasn't been on for weeks. I can't tell which one is it. Number three?
No, it's the gym? No, it's the middle. It must be seven. It's your single.
It's your one. It's right across. The light doesn't turn on anymore.
Those have, they've been working for weeks. It's just stopped working today.
know, like for real, I haven't said anything, but those lights have not been working for weeks.
That light just, I cannot corroborate that. I don't, I don't remember.
The light was on for a second there, whatever you did.
Oh, now's that.
No, we'll go back to three. Three was on for a second. Is there a, hmm, we'll figure this on in
20, this is a problem that started this morning.
Doesn't matter. We don't have to make cons. We'll figure this out later. We don't have
this conversation. You can go to three. I just didn't know where I was looking, Barrett.
Sorry. Uh, anyways, yes, two weeks from today, we're back in the office. This is our final
show, uh, or gamescast of 2024. Of course, you're about to get the podcast and our
Christmas party.
But when we return on January 3rd,
it will be a 12-hour live stream
celebrating a decade of kind of funny.
That's right,
our 10-year anniversary.
We are celebrating January 3rd
with a 12-hour marathon stream.
There will be fabulous prizes to win
already included and announced
our meta-quest and much more.
And Tim even said it,
a switch to.
We're going to give one lucky person a switch to.
Obviously, we have to wait for it to come out.
Tim's going to the warehouse.
But even cooler than that,
even cooler than that, like I said,
we start at 10 a.m.,
but in reality,
we're actually going to start with it
actual pre-show at 7.30 a.m. Pacific time. So two and a half hours before we actually kick off
the live show. And it's going to go through every kind of funny live entrance, some of our favorite
bits, all these amazing lookbacks of the content we've made that is crazy for the past decade before
we talk about where we've been and where we're going. So of course, this is always a very exciting
thing. We have a lot of different announcements. Everyone is working incredibly hard on this.
You've seen, of course, Blessing and Mike doing two games cast this week by themselves because, of course,
Tim's off doing stuff for this.
Roger's doing stuff. Andy's making stuff.
I was just doing stuff with my son.
But everybody's doing things, right?
For this to have a really cool stream.
So, yeah, January 3rd, our 10th anniversary.
It's our biggest stream ever.
It is our best stream ever.
And we hope you can join us.
Mike, send Greg T. Payne's tiny disc.
I will add that to the list.
Thank you.
We're an 11-person business, all about live talk shows.
Today, KFGD was about if metaphor is the true game of the year.
Right now is the games cast.
And after this is the stream,
which is going to be the kind of funny holiday,
party. If you're a kind of funny member, you can get
today's Greg Way, which is about. It is
about, let's stop time
and play more metaphor.
If I only had more time.
Fuck you.
I watched her on the page stream last night, Mike.
I watched the Mr. Beast TV
show. Don't have time, though.
He's doing what he loves.
Watching the Mr. Beast TV show.
I got to watch that too. I saw a clip of people
dropping into a pit. I should look crazy.
When he brings out all thousand people, it's like,
wow, this production is insane.
They got a good, really behind the, good, great behind the scenes YouTube video up right now with Samir and who?
Colin and Samir right?
Oh, I do not know.
Look it up.
It's great.
Great.
Fantastic stuff.
Thank you to our Patreon producers, Delaney Twining and Carl Jacobs.
Today we're brought to you by Heart Electric.
Still wakes the deep aura frames and Marvel Snap, but we'll tell you about that later.
For now, let's start with topic of the show.
It was referenced earlier this week.
And we're making it happen.
Yep.
The GTA clone draft.
I believe this is from, was it yesterday when we, or the two days ago?
Two days ago, because it was on the magic card stream where we were like, are we still
reviewed magic or are you going to do draft?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I forget what like originated this idea.
I think it was during the bracket where me and Mike were like, we got to draft
GTA clones because there's a big conversation to be had about these games.
Now, we're going to do this like we've done drafts in the past, right?
We're each going to go around in a circle, draft four games.
Are we snaking?
We're going to snake.
For sure, we're going to snake.
We're going to do a straw pole to figure out who goes first.
Now, I think the...
The audience votes?
The audience votes at the end, yes.
The fun thing about this conversation is defining what is a GTA clone.
I love this.
I have a Wikipedia article that is titled Grand Theft Auto Clone.
In there, there is a definition section.
It reads like this.
A Grand Theft Auto Clone is a video game that falls within the genre,
popularized by the 2001 title Grants of Auto 3, where players are given the ability to drive any vehicle or fire any weapon as they explore an open world.
These games are sometimes treated as a 3D action adventure game or a third-person shooter.
They are noted for frequently bearing strong, violent, or criminal themes, though exceptions like Simpsons hit and run and American McGee presents Scrapland have copied his gameplay.
Everybody knows American McGee presents Scrapland have copied his gameplay structure.
with a teen rating.
The game,
Lego City undercover,
was released the same year
as GCA5
and drew similar comparisons,
albeit generally positive,
and was given an E10 rating.
Now,
that is from Wikipedia.
I think between the three and four of us,
because I'm having Barrett joined this draft,
too, to make it an even four,
we can decide on a commonality of,
what do we agree on as far as,
like, the definition and the bullet points we want to make?
Because, like,
we had it yesterday on the way out.
we were talking about like what is a TTA clone right and bear it's like because you fucking
fired shots and walked out the door yeah because bear brought up like oh well are we gonna
what games are going to be allowed what games aren't allowed bear in bear it was like because i
was coming at it from the angle of like our other rock star games allowed which i personally
the dog nick 96 for the record is red dead redemption a gta clone we're gonna get into because like
so bear was like are we doing are we saying no rock star games and i'm and i'm saying no i think
we just say no GTA games.
I think Rockstar can make GTA clones.
Wow.
And if you get those games,
but that does bring up an interesting conversation.
Because Barrett was then like,
well,
like,
now I'm going to draft bully,
to which I'm like,
I don't know if I view bully as a GTA clone,
but also-
literally C-TTA for teens.
What are you talking about?
But then I was like,
I was like,
Spider-Man 2 is going to be my answer.
And like,
you can't drive and shit in that game.
And then you were like,
you left the car in there.
You are the car.
And embarrassed, like, well, that's not a GTA clone
because there's no fucking driving.
So we got to figure out on what are the bullet points
that we all agree on.
I think it's got to be post Grand Theft Auto 3.
Yes.
Okay.
I think it's got to be open world,
run around, do stuff.
And that's where I start getting a little like,
all right, what are we talking about?
I think there needs to be a wanted system.
Interesting.
Wow.
Interesting.
See, I feel like we're getting a little bit too.
Yeah, that's too media.
Yeah, I like that.
Then what is it
just any open world game
is a GTA clone then?
It's almost pornography, right?
When I see it, I know it.
Nice.
Somebody over here is like,
I would not look at Spider-Man 2 then
and be like, yep, that's-
Well, I was just really doing that.
I mean, that's a different argument.
Like over here, like somebody said,
what about, so like Assassin's Creed?
No, Assassin's Creed isn't a GTA clone.
For me, if I'm starting for the baseline
of what I consider a GTA clone,
I think open world in a city
where there are sandbox elements to it.
How about just cause?
I'm going to say no, right?
Because that's all about destruction and explosion.
Someone else in chat also brings up a good point.
Like, I feel like a crime has to be a part of it as well, doing bad shit.
They got crime inspiring me into.
See, I got doing the crime.
My thing, I hear that and I respect that.
I would say no, because I think you're getting too into, I would say no, but I understand the reasoning for it.
But I think it's, for me, not so much there has to be crime.
think there has to be missions.
You're doing missions, but then you can also run around and fuck around and do whatever the fuck you want.
See, but then you're there you're just describing open world games.
I mean, again, I'm talking about a post-GTA3 world, though, which is what informed every open world game.
And again, I wouldn't throw every open world into it.
See, when I think of GTA clones, I guess it'd be easier for me to work back or it's just name games that I'll consider GTA clones.
That's why I think honestly, we should go.
Yes.
And then if there's an objection, we bring it to the table and we all argue.
I like this.
I like that.
So if we say something that.
somebody, if somebody says something that we don't like,
we do a veto and we have the discussion.
Yeah. Are we allowed them or not?
All right. Where's your document? Do you have a document?
Yeah. Yeah. It should be in the game.
Who gets first picks?
Well, it fucking isn't.
Barrett, do you have the straw poll website?
Or actually, I can do it. A straw poll is when you pull people
on their opinions on something. No, no, no, I've changed it. I've changed the definition.
No. No, yeah. I've changed the definition.
You know, it's Friday. Do whatever you like.
He's hosting Barrett.
you know he's the host
Barrett
we're taking back the term
straw
taking it to the ball
we're gonna pull
we're gonna pull straws
I got okay
I got wheel of I got my wheel of names actually
okay it's already pre-filled in
with blessing intent
so I'm gonna add in
do you want me to do it
so we can show it
oh we're gonna see
who's picks it
who's picking
Bear Bear do you want to do it
yeah hold on
so let me let me do it here
submit the document why does that it
there's no there's no folder
there's no nothing okay sorry
help him out
I think you know what
this has a wrong
wrong date in it.
Oh, that'll do it.
It's 19.
I'm changing it to 20.
Taking it to the pulse.
Oh, look at this thing.
All right.
Just click to spin?
Yeah, let's spin, I guess, three times.
And then the order that we get the names will be the order that we go in.
Okay.
So first spin.
Mike.
And remember, this is going to be a snake draft as well.
Damn.
Now, this is.
So which way is it going now?
Is it going, me, Barrett?
Oh, you're setting up the order.
Yeah.
My apologies.
My apologies.
So that was the first one.
So Mike goes first.
We're seeing who goes second here
I hate it
Barrett
I fucking hate it
All right
So we got Mike then Barrett
Let's see who goes third
I love the little clapping
Yeah no that's actually really nice
I like that
Between Blessing and Greg
Oh god damn it
I wanted to go twice in a row
All right
So your official order will be
Mike
Then Barrett
Then Blessing
Then Greg
And then because of the snake draft
It would then go
Greg then bless
And then Barrett the Mike
And so on
And so forth
Got it
Now, here's the issue.
As the first draftee, here's my issue.
Yeah.
Is you've allowed us to draft rock star games.
And I was with Baird, I didn't want to draft rock star games.
And I don't want to draft a rock star games.
Great.
Be a man of your word and don't draft a rock star game.
We figured it out, everybody.
I'm going to give you the Snowbike Mike official best GTA-like games because I'm not going to,
I'm not going to fall down to that.
You're a man of morals.
I appreciate that.
Don't listen to a mic.
Why would I pick Red Dead?
Why would I pick Red Dead too?
Why would I pick Bullie?
I'm not picking those.
L.A. Noir, maybe's on my list, but I'm not going to pick that right now.
But that's technically published by Rockstar, you know.
Your boy, Snowbike, Mike, will take it way back to 2006, ladies and gentlemen.
I'm going to draft with my first pick, the original Saints Row.
You're talking about a GTA knockoff.
There you go.
Because you want to talk about a real GTA-like game.
You go to 2006 with Saints Row the original.
And now many will say, Mike, why don't you pick Saints Row too?
No, I'm picking Saints'Roe too.
I'm picking Saints Row 1.
Because you can then save Saints Row 2 for the other people to pick.
Because of one certain factor that I will get into in just a moment.
But of course, we love Volition and THQ because of this Xbox 360 game that came and saved the day when we wanted more GTA.
We needed more GTA in our life.
And we said, what if we took GTA and cranked it up to 11?
And they said, we got you.
Ultraviolence.
We took it up and we got a little weird and funky.
with dildo bats and all the fun times, right?
We pushed the bar just a little bit further to say,
hey, GTA, the ball's in your court,
trying to match us, right?
Of course, we met the Third Street Saints,
which we love, the gang in purple.
We all loved purple for quite some time because of that.
We were earning respect from missions, if you remember,
which was really fun.
I liked that.
Of course, you have some iconic characters.
You'll always remember.
But why your boy Snowbike Mike is selecting St.
Metro 1 is because it had multiplayer back then.
And there was a certain mode called Protect the Pimp, which was the best game mode around
where it would be you protecting a VIP with a Pimp hat on.
And that Pimp would backslap people for an insta kill if it got near you.
And it was some of the best times in 2006 to play back in the day.
And so I will go with Saints will run.
Some of my complaints about Saints Row 1, not an iconic soundtrack.
The radio stations weren't as bummer.
as GTA at the time.
That's probably because they needed to get their footing,
get some of it under there.
Cars were fun.
Cars were fine.
Gun play was good.
But like it was the true GTA-like,
but not GTA.
And it's exactly what I wanted.
So with my first pick,
I respect the game.
Saints throw won.
Thank you.
Good first pick, Mike.
With my first pick,
I've been debating on several different things
because I think there's a lot of great answers here
for a round one.
and honestly, I feel like I just got to represent, you know, myself here, represent the homie.
Cool, Greg.
And I'm drafting with my first round pick.
Simpsons hit and.
Oh, I wanted it so bad.
Great pick.
Great pig, Barry.
It is a big, like a known IP, GTA clone that a lot of us grew up with so many great memories.
Again, a game where you drive around in cars and you can, you know, hit people and there's a wanted system and it makes sense.
as a GTA clone.
Not a traditional open world sense,
but everything around it.
Like, there are, like,
full-ass levels that you could fully explore,
like that.
And it was just a,
it was a fun old time
where you got to play as everybody.
Shout out to the Lisa level
where you have to, like,
go around and look for Bart.
There's a lot of fun racing in that level,
all that stuff.
But that is, to me, the GTA clone.
May I bring up a counterpoint to that for the audience?
Just to keep in mind.
A lot of in the car stuff
and Simpson's in-run.
Not much out on foot, having fun.
Putting the smackdown on people,
shooting awesome guns,
causing mayhem.
So I'm just going to put it out there.
Is that true?
I've recently played it.
It felt like a lot of times in the car.
Quite a big of it.
A lot of times in the car stuff as well.
Chat, remember.
You don't have guns,
but yeah, you're doing a lot of like running around
punching people, kicking people,
collecting things.
I think that's not true.
Simpson's in run is the quintessential example of
they saw GTA and went,
let's make that with this IP.
is I think you can't get more truer as a GTA clone
than Simpson's Hidden Run. And also, like, I think it
did the assignment, right? Like, it knew its homework and it did
it. And, like, you know, it gave me as a kid playing that game, right? Like, the
feeling of, oh, I'm playing GTA right now, but I'm playing his part of
Simpson, or I'm playing his Homer Simpson, right? Had a cool art style,
had, like, fun bits of your home, if you're a Simpsons fan, had a lot of fan
service there. Yeah, I like that.
Great pick. Great pick. Man.
shout to all the different cars you could buy two
I'm not gonna lie
that was gonna be my first pick
you're like I had no other picks
well now I didn't want to get into
controversy this early sure
so now I think I have to bring controversy to the table
because I'm in a weird spot of
when we talk about GTA clones
if I looked at the modern Spider-Man games
I wouldn't say that they're GTA clones
I'll just say those are open world action games right
but Spider-Man 2 on the PlayStation 2
wow I think that is an
example of a game that looked at GTA and went, wait, we can make something here.
Like, I think Spider-Man 2 is the example of a, how do we take our IP and do what they did
with GTA 3 with RIP?
Am I crazy there?
No, I think you are crazy and I would veto this personally.
Because I think it's like, yes, it came out around the time of the GTA trilogy, but I think
that's less that they took inspiration from that and finally had the technology to do an open
World New York, which they
couldn't quite yet figure out
how to do in Spider-Man 1
where it was just a lot of like rooftops and indoor
shit. I just
don't inherently think, just because it's an
open world game that takes place in the city,
I don't see it as a GTA clone, especially when you're making the
argument that the modern Spider-Man games
are in GTA clones, the modern Spider-Man games
are just, I'm going to get a lot of shit for this.
But again, it's just because I'm making
an argument here.
they're just HD, very pretty versions of Spider-Man too.
No, you're right.
You're right about that last point.
I guess my argument back, and I'm not going to pick the game, I'll accept the veto,
especially because...
No, no, no, we're arguing about this.
Are we not?
I'm not ready to put the veto on this.
I'm not vetoing it either.
Okay, because, yeah, my argument is that with time, things changed, right?
I think what a GTA clone is in 2024 is way different than what a GTA clone was in
2004, when very obviously, like, Activision, Trey Arc looked at GTA and went,
oh, we can take that formula and apply it to Spider-Man
and make a G-E-T-A style game out of Spider-Man.
Were there crimes in the open world?
I mean, you weren't doing the crimes, so there were crimes.
Okay.
Yeah.
Were the cars driving around?
Yeah.
Were the pedestrians walking?
Yeah, are you running to them?
Could you drive the cars?
So here's the problem.
Can you drive cars and bully?
You had a skateboard.
You had bicycle.
Can I take?
Can I take the floor?
Go for a Greg Miller.
I don't agree with this veto before doing any research,
because I do think that the DNA of what this was there to get cloned out was that there, right?
But this is a moot point because U.S. Gamer has the oral history of,
before they shut down off the web archive, of course, right?
Where the developers openly admit that they were ripping off GTA.
Yeah.
Jamie.
It was definitely us ripping off Grand Theft Auto 3.
We had a lot more verticality they had.
Grand Theft Auto 3 at the time was pretty flat.
And because it goes on, and that's the first of many references where they go through a few site,
if you go through and search for that, or GTA,
where they started going like this.
Tomo, we got affected by that.
I mentioned GTA3,
this idea of like an open world
and a sandbox experience.
Even before bringing in the actual facts
and the developer saying, in fact, it was this,
I would tell you just playing it, it was.
Because GTA3, again, is such a crazy watershed moment
to live through as a consumer, right?
Obviously, I was still a child at this point.
But seeing what came after it in playing the Spider-Man,
you can't play Spider-Man too and not feel GTA in there.
And again, we're talking about clones.
right.
Mizarro,
a clone of Superman.
Super Boy, a clone of Superman.
Technically, of course,
half Lex Luthor's DNA,
half Superman's DNA.
But clones aren't
carbon copies.
That's a different thing.
We'd say carbon copies.
What's funny is,
yeah, I was going to accept
the video and lean off of it
because I saw a chat
very much fighting against me on this.
Chats full a bunch of idiots.
That's why they listen to us.
Here's the thing.
Chat's going to vote on our list
at the end of the day.
But because Greg brought
the very clear evidence,
you know what?
Even if chat doesn't like it,
I think I'm going to stand by it.
I love that.
Yeah, like I have the evidence right there.
And there was somebody in chat that was asking, but bless, is it a good game?
Spider-Man 2, 2004 for PlayStation 2, fucking fantastic video.
Yeah.
One of my favorite video games ever.
Just don't play it today.
Yes, of course.
Yeah.
And like, well, I mean, and this is the nostalgia thing, right?
I'll still go back to that game and very much enjoy it.
But I did play it back in the day.
And so, like, I'm able to go back to it easily.
You can't seriously be, like, if you played that game back in 2004 or 2005, you can't look back at that and be like,
I had a bad time back then.
I had a wait time.
No, because it was my favorite game back then.
Like, I think it legitimately is a fantastic game.
I don't give a fuck about how it ages or whatever, right?
Like, that was the game that led me run around the city of Spider-Man and actually
be Spider-Man.
It is Insomniac Spider-Man way before Insomniac touched Spider-Man, right?
Like, that was crazy on the PlayStation 2 back in the day.
Swinging and having my actual, like, webs connect to buildings and not just be swinging
off the moon and shit.
Like, that stuff was so good.
Having, like, the original characters that weren't even in the movie were so good, right?
being introduced to Black Cat and all these different things.
Yeah, no, Spider-Man 2, fucking fantastic.
And I'm sticking by it. It is my first pick.
Good for you, Blads. Good for you. Thank you.
Craig Miller, you're up next.
As I said here, a clone.
It can be one of the greatest comic book characters of all-time Superboy.
Connell, amazing backstory. Who doesn't love him?
Don't call me Superboy. Remember that when he debuted?
Awesome, amazing. But it can also be failed experiments, like Bizarro, right?
He was never meant to live this life, speak backwards.
but he is what he is and you have to accept him.
When we're talking about the greatest GTA clones,
I would like to bring to the table, Wheelman.
What?
If you were unfamiliar with Wheelman, Baird,
I have put the trailer for the PC version for some reason,
is the first thing I found.
I watched it with the mute time.
I would like to watch it so we can set the stage for what Wheelman.
Yeah, I'd like to look this up.
Wheelman, I think one of those overlooked ones.
Can we have sound to?
As they said, you like GTA.
We'll just make GTA.
Nice.
What, yours is this?
2009.
This is 2009.
PlayStation 3 Xbox PC.
Okay.
Let's go.
The money.
Is that Vin?
That's Vin Diesel.
It's Vin Diesel.
Mike, you know about this?
No.
I vaguely remember this for some reason.
Here, now drive.
Oh, you gotta give me money if you want me to drive, is right.
For the mirror.
What?
Buy a whole new car.
Please, they'll kill us.
leave these monkeys to me
Wow
What a great pick
Move to the center
I can't wait for the game play
Yeah like what's the vibe of this game
You're getting right here
It's Vin Diesel baby
The Diesel as the wheel man
And whatever you do
Do not look up
That's crazy they put Vin Diesel in driving you
And this is after Fast and Furious man
Yeah
All right
Amazing
You might say that seems
He just hip check that, right?
Yeah.
That, of course, would be vehicle, melee.
That's right.
From the IGN review written by a young Greg Miller,
here the right joystick acts as your car's hit stick.
When you're rolling down the street,
you can jerk the stick left forward or right
to perform a body check in that direction.
It's like your car's wheels turn 90 degrees
and you're driving sideways.
Sure, it can never happen in real life,
but for a video game starring Vin Diesel,
I'm behind the moves.
If you wear it on a car,
you can pull off a finisher,
where the camera will follow a rolling ball of flame
that it used to be your enemy.
Ladies and gentlemen.
I love this.
Hitman was not a good,
or Wheelman was not a good game.
But if we're talking about clones of GTA,
this is the one I jump to every time
because it was legitimately just let's rip off GTA
but put Vin Diesel in it.
Baron, is there way to, because like I think we're too resumed in.
Hold on, sorry.
I was like, yeah, I don't remember this camera angle.
But look at the map, that's GTA, right?
Yeah, of course.
Running around with weapons, storing them in your back,
just whatever.
that was GTA. All the car stuff was a lot of wheelman, but it was a lot of GTA.
They put this in it. They did different things with it, which was nice as well. Now, again,
I didn't enjoy this game at the time. I don't remember what I gave the console versions.
I have my PC version pulled up, which is a 4.8. Now again, I think in retrospect,
I might have been a bit harsh on it, whatever. I don't remember the game well, so I'll stick with it.
But it is the idea that they were just copying GTA. And so if you're going to go for the king,
obviously I was going to grade you on a harsher curve because you were not hitting it.
I don't think for what it was, and I don't remember the gameplay being that riveting, right?
My verdict reads, I don't know how I'm going to score a game until I sit down and write the review.
After reading the paragraphs preceding this one, it's clear I did not like Wheelman.
When Vin Diesel is attached to a product, whether it be a movie or a game, you expect to have to suspend your disbelief and settle in for some unbelievable shenanigans.
Sadly, Wheelman pushes those ideas too far past the point of no return.
Sure, the occasional hip check from a sedan is cool, but there's no story to keep you going.
Why would the gangs put up with this crap?
The combat is a chore.
Oh, another swarm of bad guys to block my path.
Fun.
And the game doesn't look that good.
Cars are just generic boxes.
I wanted Wheelman to be a guilty pleasure, like 50 cent blood on the sand.
But it's just guilty of being a poor game.
Oh, look at that.
I crush that.
The turn around where you're driving.
Thank you.
I like that.
The shoot the people behind it.
You got it.
So anyways, this is a bold first round pick.
I like it.
No, it hits the ultimate TTA.
I'm here because I'm the expert.
All right.
You guys, you were still in your cribs when the Wheelman was getting reviewed.
by Greg Miller, right?
Maybe Roger.
I think, yeah, I think I was in 10th grade.
Maybe Roger.
That's my first page.
Hey, let's give it up for him.
Let's give it up.
I want to come in there.
I want to give you some fun stuff.
I want to give you some shenanigans stuff.
And I like Mike, I'm not just going to go pick
another rock star game.
Are we here to have fun?
Are we here to have fun?
Are we here to have fun of what?
Well, Greg, you're up.
You're up again.
Follow it up.
Number two.
I have a list of games here.
Yeah.
All right.
Wheelman.
Things that speak to me.
The wheelman sequel.
That'll be sick.
More Venn, more diesel.
A lot of great games out there.
A lot of fun GTA likes.
Yeah, there's a lot of great games out there,
but then there's a lot of games I want to give a light to that aren't going to get it.
So I'm just going to do the thing that everybody's always expecting you to do.
I'm going to grab this before anybody else can,
and I'm going to grab Sleeping Dogs.
God damn it.
We all knew Sleeping Dogs from United Front Games from 2012 was going to show up here.
Let me get a trailer.
Or Barry, can you grab yourself a trailer?
I was really hoping you'd pick another Wheelman style like thing the way is.
Sleeping Dogs is the right choice.
No, it's the best choice.
Of course, starring Emma Stone,
never forget.
It's a lot of people forget
she's in this video game.
Emma Stone?
Yeah, Emma Stone is in this video game.
A lot of people also forget that this is like,
at the time, it is crazy
that sleeping dogs came out and that sleeping dogs
was good.
Because sleeping dogs started as a true crime game.
I remember going to a GDC appointment to see
true, and it was true crime streets of Hong Kong.
Is that right?
Where it was, I went to see it and got the demo.
And then it gestated and went into
development hell it felt like for the longest
time. And then it resurfaced his sleeping
dogs and you were like, oh, this is going to be a trash fire.
And the game was not a trash fire.
It was fucking awesome. Open world, of course.
You're going through your Chinese American police officer goes undercover.
You go into this organization.
You got Emma Stone out there.
You can see the stuff as you're doing it right here, right?
Open world, GTA, we're driving the cars, we're doing the fights.
But then the fight itself was so much fun.
The gameplay fight.
You're shaking you.
You remember this, Mike?
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
This is a fantastic game, Greg.
I mean, I think this was a pick that everyone was going to have on their selection,
but that blend of martial arts meets the gunplay of GTA.
You have all the telltale signs of there's the map on the bottom left,
that circular map that everyone knows and thinks of.
There's you exploring this giant open city.
And it was cool at the time.
They did a remastered version not terribly long ago.
Yeah.
But I mean, I think not enough people played again.
But yeah, it was one of those, you know,
I think when I think of GTA,
I'm always thinking of obviously the open world,
but also the combat never being that great.
And the fact that Sleeping Dogs combat was so good.
great, right? Perfect.
A great pick if I say so myself.
Fantastic. I agree with that.
Honestly, it was good to be my next pick.
So now I have to think.
You can always take an ad break. You call for the ad break.
Oh, wow.
No, no, no, no.
Let me tell you, my next two, I feel so good because none of you're going to pick them.
Nice. I like that.
I have one.
I know.
If only they made it, Wheelman 2 could have been something.
It could have been a contend.
I have one that I haven't played that I know would be a great pick.
and I know it's a Greg Miller pick also.
I mean, bless.
Let's have some fun on this show, bless.
Yeah, but it's like how much,
because I could,
I think I could screw over Greg Miller with this pick.
No way.
Not a chance.
Not a chance, he says.
Go for it.
Not a chance.
Go for it.
You're calling your bluff, coward.
Do it right now.
All right, I'm picking watchdogs too.
I'm not playing watchdogs too,
but I know people love watchdogs too.
I want to know it wasn't going to be one of my picks,
but now I am fucking mad at myself that it wasn't one of my picks.
I wouldn't have had it.
So I'm not mad.
I'm just like that out of myself that I'd never even thought about it.
all the shitty games that I was like, ah, I thought it was gonna be your first pick, honestly,
knowing how much you love watchdogs too, knowing how much the industry loves watchdogs too.
It's one that I'm, when I say I haven't played it, it's more so I'm envious that I haven't played it more than anything, right?
I played some of the first watchdogs and I was so turned off by it.
I was so like, oh, man, this shit is boring, man, I don't like the main character.
This hacking shit isn't living up to like that first watchdog trailer, which I don't know if you remember, like, when Ubisoft first revealed that,
it must have been like 2013 E3 where it is, like, doing parkour.
and running away from the police,
and then you activate,
like,
the fucking barriers in the street
and make the cops crash into it.
I thought that we're going to get
that type of game with watch dogs.
And when I played the first one,
I was like,
no,
I'm good.
Watch Dogs 2 came out,
had no hype.
And then it came out,
and I was like,
fuck,
I should have been paying more attention.
Like,
the more I read about it,
the more I watched videos about it,
the more I was like,
man, this game sounds awesome.
There's personality here to these characters,
it seems like.
The main character seems awesome.
You know, it's Marcus?
Marcus, yeah.
Like, the,
great.
Have you played it?
No. I would love for you to play it now because it really is an amazing video game representation of San Francisco.
Yeah. I just, oh man. There are some neighborhoods that I'm sad that get cut out. But like, yeah, there are like corners, street corners from like, God damn.
Yeah, I know that corner.
Pacific areas so well. And it's like not just the city like going up and like North Bay and then over into the East Bay and stuff like that.
It's like a really good representation, I would say, of the Bay. And then like driving.
through and listening to like run the jewels and shit.
I was just saying I know the soundtrack was good.
Like what an example of like taking a franchise that probably did not have to come back and
finding a flow with it in a world where I think in 20.
I know that came out in probably 2016, 2017 probably.
But like you know since GTA 5 like think about how intimidating it must be to make a
GTA clone a game that is this open world.
You were hijacking cars driving around a city getting into shootouts, all this stuff.
Think about how intimidating that is to make in the last decade where nothing you make is going to touch GTA 5.
And I think Watch Dogs 2 might be one of the very few examples.
There's another one in my head that I hope nobody thinks of.
But like that is one of the very few examples of like a game that was able to do that.
And I think actually stand out and be something that's worthwhile picking up.
And so shout out, Watch Dogs 2.
Nice job.
I was actually one of those Jabonies.
They got burned out after Watch Dogs 1 that I never went back to Watch Dogs.
Damn, that sucks.
Watch Dogs 2 was so good.
Watch Dogs one was something.
The only reason I think I played to is because it was like one of the first games I was assigned to at IGN.
Like if I wasn't working there, I don't know if I would have played it.
But I'm glad I did.
It's never too late, guys.
Yeah, it's never too late.
Mike.
My second round.
Oh, sorry, Barry.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Unless you had more to say about watch.
No, I thought Mike was up next.
Okay.
Yeah, my second round pick is going to be a similar one to blessing.
It's a game that I've never played.
It was a game that I'd never even heard of growing up.
But it's a game.
I know the streets fuck with.
And I'm looking to win.
I'm drafting true crime streets of all.
Oh, that's good.
Oh, he's going with L.A.
Yeah.
Oh, nice.
I'm curious.
I don't know if you have much to say about this one, Barry, but like, I have nothing to say about this game.
Well, me and me, I can probably speak to it.
Yeah, we're big fans.
I was thinking about picking up true crime streets of L.A.
But because Greg picked up sleeping dogs, I was worried about, like, maybe chat or whoever
voting is going to see, like, those two and think, oh, I got to go sleeping dogs over true crime
streets of L.A.
Even though True Crime Strength Streets of L.
is special in its own right. It's a fun game. I mean, you want to talk about a game that very much
looked at GTA 3 and looked at the GTA franchise and went, oh, we should just make one of those.
True crime in the way of Wheelman is another one of those. Hey, let's just make a GTA. We're
going to give it an open world. We're going to give you like the gunplay, the driving and stuff.
But they also added, I think, very fun combat, like very fun, like hand-to-hand combat.
And so, like, as you're playing the game, you can learn like new martial arts moves and
shit that I thought was a really cool additive. For sure. It was a fun, like, wacky story here that got
into the supernatural that I think at points
got weird but still fun.
It's a video game ass video game.
Yeah, Mike, what do you have to say about it?
No, bless. I totally agree. I was true crime streets
of L.A. and New York, both
with the, like, Saints wrote to me, where
I wanted more GTA, I needed
more GTA as a young kid playing these games.
And True Crime nailed it, right? It was everything that I wanted with this
open world. I'm jumping in cars. I'm stealing cars driving around.
As a young kid, it's like, oh, you could have
just said this in GTA. I would have nodded by head. I'd be like,
Yeah, I'm having fun playing the exact same game.
It's right.
So, yeah, these games are great.
I'm so glad they were giving them a call out
because they were fantastic at the time
for when you wanted more.
And that's what today's episode's all about.
I love that pick, Barry.
Giving you more.
Give me, give me.
Mike?
What's your second pick?
Well, these are all some great selections here, everybody.
Especially we're a man.
Wheelman was a great poll.
You know what I mean? Great pull.
Now we get into the fun stuff, right?
I want to go with a good one here.
I'm going to go with a cool one.
Way back in the day there was a game
where we flipped it.
You weren't the bad guy.
You were the good guy.
And you had superpowers in a futuristic city.
Crackdown.
I'm going to go with crackdown number one.
I love Crackdown.
Get them orbs.
And you would get those orbs to power up
and unlock new abilities.
I'm going to be sold on this as a GCA claim.
Oh, he's vetoing.
Yeah.
I'm not vetoing all the way yet,
but I don't know enough about Crackdown.
He's got the challenge point out of his pocket.
Yeah, when I think about crackdown, I don't think of it as a GTA clone, but yeah, sell me.
Yeah, open world.
So the GTA clone would be this.
Instead of being the bad guy, you're the good guy now.
So you're getting calls from police HQ to go out and take down the gangs in different parts of the city.
So you are doing certain small missions to them work up to go get the big bad guy.
But during all that, you have collectibles in this open world, very similar to early day GTA back in the day.
You have a lot of fun gunplay where you're running through a bunch of different guns.
you are chasing people all around this giant world
with a lot of verticality on the maps.
I think it's just the GTA clone
that wanted to be GTA,
but they wanted to take something different
as being the cop this time around.
Okay, you know what, everybody.
No, I'm looking at gameplay.
Yeah, the moment you see it, you'll know.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, getting into a car, like,
as soon as you go out of a car.
If you can hijack a car in an open-world game,
automatically, GTCHAs.
I take it back.
There's the telltale circular map, you know?
I mean, everything is.
car hijacking. You know it is right. I think
Crackdown 1 and 2 are special, right? I know the story of Crackdown 3
with Terry Cruz and where we get into that, but like
Crackdown 1 and 2 are special games. I think when we talk about GTA likes,
Crackdown 1 is definitely on there.
The chat with people who are saying, now pull up, Svartimeon, too.
If the developers tell you that we clone GTA,
is that not a GTA clone?
All right. I like that pick. Thank you.
That is your second pick, Mike. Yeah.
Mike, I want to hear your third pick, but before
I do, I want to tell you,

And then the Duke says, had a half day to day, so actually home to watch a games cast live.
Happy holidays to the KF crew, much love.
Shout to the Duke.
Shout to the Duke.
Mike, what's your third pick?
Shout to me and my picks here, of course, as we continue on in this draft.
I have some fun picks.
I'm really happy that we're all highlighting some cool games, right?
That aren't just the normal ones.
And I have a special pick deep and down in my pocket.
That's something the Duffy.
I know you're not going to pick.
Okay.
I know that Greg's not going to pick or Baird.
So I'm not going to bring it out yet.
I'm going to save that one because that's a special pick for me.
So I'm going to go with a really good one.
Mafia 2.
Mafia 2.
I know this is going to be high on Barrett's list,
the mafia franchise as a whole.
But Mafia was really special back in the day because it was GTA bringing you that
old school godfather, really fun mobster-esque video game.
If you look at the old video clips, it's like, oh yeah, that just looks like GTA,
but I'm running around.
Another fun one that I always, you know, when I think of GTA,
likes, multiple missions that you can choose from on the map, right?
Different little icons for going up to Luigi's garage in Grand Theft Auto 3 or going to
see Franklin over here in Grand Theft Auto 5.
I like having multiple missions to choose from at a time.
That's very GTA-like that I appreciate in this.
And so I'm going to go with Mafia 2 just because of the feel, the vibes of it all, the
gameplay.
I mean, you can go down the list and hit every single GTA part in this franchise.
I mean, when Mike said that, I heard, you.
say fuck in the background.
I would have assumed that you would have been more leaning towards Mafia 3.
Is Mafia 2 the one?
I'm trying to win here.
I think Mafia 3 would have been a bad pick for this.
And that's, I guess I shouldn't have said that out loud for the rest of the draft here.
I'm not going to pick it anymore.
I think it has a fantastic story in terms of the open world and what you're doing in it.
I think a lot of people are fairly critical of that.
And I think it's fair criticisms of it's very.
Ubisoft rinse and repeat of doing the same things over and over and over again,
where I feel as the first two Mafia games had a bit more of that GTA DNA in there
in terms of story missions and mission structure and stuff like that.
I think Mafia 2 was the pick of the mafia franchise.
It was a smart pick.
Barrett, what's your third pick?
I mean, now I'm kind of scrambling here.
So I want to bring it to the table.
I want to draft bully
Because I do think
Bully is a legitimate GTA clone
I know earlier you said you would veto this
But again, I want to hear the argument
Because Bully is literally just teenage
GTA
It was the GTA you could play
That your parents would be cool with
Because it wasn't rated M
Yes, you're in school
And yes, you have classes to go to
But then you have this entire town
That you're slowly unlocking Possible.
parts of throughout that you can go and cause chaos.
You can spray paint.
You can go up to people and punch them.
You can traverse with bicycles and skateboards.
You can customize Jimmy in really fun ways.
I think that is literally just the DNA of GTA.
But for, you know, it was T for teen, you know, kids could actually, you know, parents who
were in the know about what GTA was, that was the game that they could play.
and like fully interact with and have like, yes, a school setting in all of this,
but go around cause chaos.
There was like a little bit of a wanted system where you're going around.
God damn, I keep forgetting about the B-roll here.
You know, this one is literally, you're pulling pranks on Halloween as a kid.
It was literally like due crime, but like kid crime, you know?
And I think that's just, I don't know.
I don't think I have more of an argument than that.
There's also like, it definitely, this I think was post.
what was the San Andreas so there's a lot of like more like
like side activities to do you could be like going to like boxing
and like do all of these like club activities
so yeah. Bullies awesome. I would not
and I don't I would never toss the veto at it. I think it is a clone
and that's fine. I mean you can be cloned from the same people. Yeah.
Yeah I give I give Barrett the big thumbs up because yeah I totally agree with
everything but Barrett saying you know we were trying to avoid
rock star games but I agree with Bear like you got to pick
this one so yeah
this is the this is
I want to veto I think I view it as more of almost like
a sibling not necessarily like a clone right
like it is again we're not
we're not saying non or you that
you can't pick rock star games so it's for sure on the table
as far as that but it's one of those ones where I'm like
I think of course silent society
Mike wow
that's crazy I got a notification
I think you have a lot of those shared elements
with other with GTA games right
because you have the same developer but I think I mean
as I think more about bully I guess
you are going around the city obviously this
kid's not going to
fucking hijack a car, right?
But like, yeah.
Yeah, like, I'll, I'll...
You could hijack bikes, though.
Don't accept it.
I think that's good.
There is one driving mission in there,
right?
Barrett.
He does drive eventually, right?
Does he drive an old school car?
Maybe he steals a car.
I don't remember.
It's been a bit there.
I also forgot that you left the school campus.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
And, like, it, obviously, because it's rock star,
but you're literally, like, unlocking parts of the map,
just like you would in, like, the GTA trilogy
and, like, slowly getting all of this.
Projectile of vomit.
Yeah, you're beating up a homeless dude here.
Like, come on.
It's a GTA clone.
And now you have a water system.
Cops there to defend this homeless guy.
Most unrealistic thing about that game.
Right.
That's my third pick.
And I'm surprised that this is still on the table,
which makes me wonder if you guys consider it or not,
but I consider it.
Cyberpunk 2077.
No.
That's a veto.
Is cyberpunk 277?
I'm going to get behind a veto on this as well.
Really?
I think it's an open world RPG.
Like I think it's, I think that's where we get into.
I know it when I see it.
And when I see cyberpunk, I'm like, oh, you're a, you're a fallout clone.
You're a, no.
Yeah.
It's way closer to GTA than a fallout.
Because you get in cars?
Because you have an open world.
Because you steal cars and shit and you can, like all the shit you can do in GTA,
you can do in a cyberpunk 2070.
But I don't think that, I don't think that they're cloning what you did in GTA.
Yeah, you can do them, but they're not, that's not the point of this, right?
The point is the scale points, the progression, how are you engaging in combat, all things that are totally foreign to GTA.
All right.
I'll accept a veto.
Damn.
I thought for sure that I would have gone through.
For now.
Oh, Jesus.
I see what Mike's fucking looking up over here.
Hmm.
All right.
I'm going to go with Saints Row 2.
It's the one that people consider the, I think, the fan favorite Saints Row game.
Maybe we reach down into the Duffy, you know, skip.
Saintsfield, too.
No, I'm not, I'm not picking any of those games.
Mike's showing me the games he has on his list.
Absolutely.
I don't even think that counts.
There's no way that counts.
I'm just giving you some options.
You're number 12th there?
No.
Maybe 11th.
But yeah.
I mean,
Mike's giving up his terrible games.
I mean, Mike said everything you kind of need to say about Saints Row.
Right.
Like, it is the comedy.
It is the fucking like, you know, you can't, I don't think you get more GTA
cloned than Saints Row.
And to like, to parody what is already kind of a parody.
Like, I think they do.
such a great job with it.
And yeah, it brings in gang shit to the table too.
I love gang shit. So St. Roe 2 is my pick.
Okay.
Yeah, you can't be mad at that pick.
When did St.
St. Row take too hard of a left turn?
When did it stop?
I don't think it ever took...
I mean, St. Tro 4 definitely took a hard left turn.
But I like St.R. 4.
Get out of hell.
I fell out of love with St.ro 3.
That's when, for me, it was like, you know what?
I've had enough St.
See, St. St.O. 3 is where I got in.
Yeah, that's where a lot of people.
That's why I'm surprised to you with that, Mikey.
Yeah.
All right, Greg Miller.
Hold on one second.
I want to make sure I'm picking the right game.
Because I thought it was, and then it was like, wait a second, wait a second, wait a second, wait a second.
No, I'm right, right?
Yeah, yeah, okay, okay, sorry.
With my third pick, I am choosing Lego Batman 2 DC superheroes.
All right.
If we're unfamiliar with this, this is the Lego Batman game slash Lego game that broke the mold.
before it had been play through these missions,
play through the story, you know, play through Lego Star Wars, right?
And then go back to your little hub world or whatever.
But your hub world is just a spaceship that you're on.
Okay, I need some gameplay.
Lego Batman 3 was the one that like, hey, we're introducing an open world
with activities to go do.
So it's free roaming.
It is jack any car you want.
It is spawning your own cars, of course, be Batman or whatever.
But it was this idea of you could run through
and you could just run around that world,
do missions, do whatever you needed to go do.
Earn your bricks, do your yellow studs, all that stuff, whatever.
But it was like, hey, let's take the GTA open world, move it into a Lego Batman game and let you have free roam of this place.
I think the one I would go with that I think GTA3 changed the game on right and flip the script on, right?
We talk about open world for GTA3, right?
But what do people really call it?
A sandbox game, right?
And I think that's what the inspiration of the cloning here is, was the idea of giving you a world full of NPCs who are just stomping around doing whatever that you're going to hop in, you're going to help,
you're going to take the cars, you're going to race.
Sure, there's drop and drop out co-up, but there were little missions that are happening,
little things that are happening, little story size requests that are happening.
You see up there already, right?
You can see what the map was for at the time, right?
Your radar, very similar to a GTA, just not brought up as the circle and done.
And again, there's been so many Lego games that I know eventually the GTA straight up,
radar is introduced, line on the ground is introduced, a whole bunch of different stuff.
But I'm saying the open world here is so cloned from GTA.
not only in terms of driving and taking weapons
or I'm sorry, driving and taking
uh,
uh,
forget it.
Not only in terms of driving and fighting.
That's what I'm looking for.
But in terms of,
oh,
I'm going to go talk to this person.
I'm going to go do that thing.
Of course,
over at IGN.com,
a young Greg Miller on, uh,
in 2012 gave it an 8.5 said,
Lego Batman 2,
DC superheroes is a collector's paradise.
You have to play through the game
to get studs to unlock characters to go back to old levels
and access different areas to collect more secrets.
I polished off the,
story in about nine hours, but I spent the next
11 chasing down bricks and characters
and I'm still not done. The open world
stuff could use some tweaks, but the little stumbles
don't stop Lego Batman 2. DC superheroes
from being a great game. And of course,
the big thing, you can be Superman in this game.
And anytime you flew, they played the theme. Amazing.
I mean, Mike Barrett,
I mean, I listen, it's close.
I'm on team Cyre Punk. And so I can't, I'm not going to veto this
because I'm like, I look at it. I can see it. I see the argument.
Yep. There's the read out of the Hes-A closed. And you see it.
You see it? You see it.
Pornography.
It's like pornography.
He saw it.
He's trying to use my pornography thing with fewer words.
Yeah.
Well, it sounds like I got the voice.
It doesn't matter.
No, I know.
It doesn't matter.
I would just for a morality standpoint,
be it of this.
But yeah,
yeah,
you get it.
Thank you,
everybody.
Very good selections.
I mean,
Alex Jay Sandoval,
Bluff should have had cyberpunk
that's a question.
Listen,
I agree with you.
There's a reason Alex J.
San Deval is watching us from his hovel.
and we're here on an amazing stage talking.
Greg can get Lego Batman too.
I can't get Cyropunk.
Think about that, Chad.
You know what?
Here's what I'll say.
When it comes back around you, try again.
Greg, you have one more pick.
I'm going to do the unheard of, the unthinkable,
and pick another game that I know history doesn't look kindly on.
Greg Miller loved playing.
And if you want to talk about, hey, GTA's successful.
Let's fucking do that.
Look no further than Jack to.
Jack and Daxter, the precursor's legacy, was a quiet protagonist as we jump through and collect fucking orbs and shit or whatever.
It was. It was fun. I enjoy it. But it was platforming, right?
Jack 2 was, hey, GTA was successful. Now Jack's a bad boy. And he can talk and he can steal cars.
And he's shooting people in the street. And he's doing, I mean, that is a GTA clone.
It is. We were talking about GTA clones on this list. Not saying one of the best games of all the time.
Jack 2 is a GTA clone, but cyberpunk doesn't count.
Jack 2 is a G2.
If there was a cyberpunk one,
there was a fucking,
I don't even know,
a fucking Mac Pachinko machine.
And they're like,
you know what,
GTA did well,
we'll do the whole thing.
That's fair enough.
No,
I like this big.
Knowing what I know about Jack 2,
that's not,
every time I hear somebody
you bring up Jack 2,
I always hear it in the context of like,
yeah, that's the one that like they went after GTA.
Yeah.
And so, I'll accept it.
And like at the time,
that game hit,
playing that today.
And that's why a lot of people in chat
were talking about Jack 2 throughout the show.
And I was like,
nah,
But that's only because I have the knowledge playing that as an adult and it, oh, it's bad.
It does not age well.
That was one of my favorite games as a kid.
But I respect the kid.
I adored it, you know, back as a kid.
Our teen.
College guy.
All right, so it's back to me.
All right.
So, Cyrepunk didn't.
Be like an American lawmaker just push cyberpunk again.
I heard you the first time.
I'm ignoring it.
And here's my, well, here's my thing now, right?
Because Barrett was able to get bully, which was another rock.
star game that took a lot of the elements of GTA, put it into a different setting, put it into a different thing, but at his core still has so much of those GTA elements, you would call it a GTA clone. Do you know what other rock star franchise I would look at and go, man, you really took GTA and put it into another genre, but kept it as a GTA game essentially is Red Dead Redemption. Now, before I say more, does anybody want to veto this off the bat before I make the argument? No. No, we didn't make the rule that he couldn't draft Rockstar games. I think we gentlemen's agreed that we would go a couple of rounds with.
without choosing that.
I'm just fine with us
getting into them now.
Perfect.
That's how people are.
Now,
before,
since we're here,
I got to think about
whether I want to do
one or two.
And you know what?
Just to keep within the theme
of my team,
I'm going to,
um,
two was a technical leap to,
had a,
I had a story that I know
makes people fucking cry
when they get to the end of it.
One day I'll get to the end
of that story.
Maybe if I don't fall asleep.
You want,
you know what I mean?
Um,
shout out,
Arthur Morgan.
Shout out to that horse
that was really detailed.
Was that the one where
Was that the horse where the balls grew and shrunk or was that Metal Gear?
Okay.
I think Metal Gear had the pooping horse.
But yeah, like super detailed game.
One of the most impressive looking video games and impressively like technical video games.
We don't want to talk about how much they put into it.
It's one that like I'm not, I don't really have a horse in the race between Red Dead redemption and Red Dead redemption.
Do you have some horse balls on the line though?
I do have some horse balls on the line.
So I won't speak to this too deeply because like I know other people love Red Dead more than I love Red Dead.
But yeah, I mean, you can't do this.
trying to win without bringing Red Dead to the table.
And I'm trying to win.
He's trying to win.
I'm trying to make up for all the chat hate from Spider-Man 2.
We're trying to shine a lot of light on some cool games.
He's trying to win.
Barrett Courtney.
Yeah, the Mafia 2 pig really, really threw me in for a loop, Mike.
Should I send him this one?
Yeah, send him that one.
You show them that one.
You show them, like, all your list.
I don't get to see anything.
I'm sending you the one.
He's going to send you a pick that I don't even think counts.
Yeah, are you slacking me directly?
Which are you on?
You on control?
Yeah, I'm on control.
I'm going to send it to control.
Okay.
Where's Mike?
Gotcha.
Imagine if I had cyberpunk and Red Dead Red Dead Redemption, too.
Fucking cowards.
What?
No, that does not count.
T'allors.
I tried to give him to blast.
Yeah, right?
He said that to me.
There's no way you can pick Mad Max, Mike.
Yeah, no.
You cannot pick Mad Max.
You cannot pick Mad Max.
Um,
fool.
I'm going to go, again, this is going to be another one for the streets,
not one that I know very well, but I know people love it.
And Greg opened the steal with this one.
I'm going to go Lego City undercover.
Wow.
Yeah, there we go.
I mean, Lego City might even be a better example of a Lego clone, right?
I think mine, I'm making the argument for the open world and things.
But Lego City are covered straight up is GTA.
Have any of us played Lego City undercover?
I think Gary hasn't really.
That was like a Wii U launch title, right?
Yeah.
Good for you, Barrett.
Thank you.
Thank you.
And they're bringing it back in spirit with, like, the new Lego thing, right?
The place, what Greg keeps calling PlayStation Homes return.
Brick life.
Brick life.
Thank you.
We got to all get into brick life.
I got a, Captain America's got a house.
You've seen it.
I'm going to get bricked up and go to brick life.
I don't know that.
That gets you in trouble.
No, I'm just Lego.
I want to play Legos.
Lego.
Mike, your final pick here.
My final selection, of course, chat, you know, don't forget.
I've selected Saints Row one.
your all-time favorites.
Crackdown, a great gem.
Mafia 2, you all love.
Of course, as I continue down my list,
there's a lot of great ones here.
And there's one that I wanted to bring to the table.
We definitely got to discuss, after you do your pick,
we got to discuss, like, all the ones left on the table.
Okay.
Because I'm going to save my one deep down in my pocket.
Because that one's my favorite.
The last pick.
That one's my favorite.
No, because I'm going to pick a good one here.
That true GTA ripoff.
Scarface.
The world is yours.
Okay.
Back in the day, 2006, radical entertainment said,
what if Tony, what if Tony just kept going?
And they said, you know what if Tony Montana just kept living?
Listen, I know there was a movie and I know there was a canon, but I said, we're done with it.
What if Tony just keeps going?
And you know what?
We don't call Al Pacino.
We just get us like this, but we don't call him for forecasting.
Don't need him.
We said, let's just keep going.
And so I, I mean, you want to talk about GTA likes.
you put on some Scarface video right now
you're saying oh that's just Grand Deft Auto
it's no way it really is
you can't tell I remember it because
I never when I was a kid I borrowed this game
from Addison yeah you did
shout it to Edison and I never watched Scarface but I remember like
starting this game being like is this just Vice City
like you just gave me Vice City
what's going on?
And so I will round out our fun one
when we call out GTA likes
with Scarface the world is yours
you can get lost in that you can have some fun
I think that's a great
for us to shine a light on some great games.
It's pretty cool to see all of us bring, what, four times four,
16 different fun games.
And I'm sure we have some great honorable mentions just to laugh at.
But what a genre?
How Grand The Daughter changed the world and really affected so many games.
I want to talk about that while Barry able to make like a straw pole.
Yeah, straw poll is ready.
Do we want to read out loud?
Yes.
So to go through it, right,
Bear has the straw poll ready.
He'll put those in chat for the live viewers to vote on as we discuss some more things.
But to go through him, right, Mike's pick for the GTA clone draft.
His four games are Saints Row, Crackdown, Mafia 2, Scarface the World is yours.
Barrett's picks are Simpsons Hit and Run, True Crime, Streets of L.A., bully, Lego City undercover.
Blessings picks are Spirter Man 2, Watch Dogs 2, Saints Row 2, Red Dead Red Dead Red Dead Redemption 2.
And Greg's picks are Wheelman, Sleeping Dogs, Lego Batman 2, DC superheroes, and Jack 2.
And remember, we didn't say these are going to be the best GTA clones.
We said they were going to be the GTA clones.
And I've assembled the list that are the most GTA clones of the GTA clones.
I think isn't it drafting the best GTA clones like the headline or something?
No, right now it's the GTA clone draft, which isn't a great headline.
We should figure out a better way.
Work on that.
But yeah, I mean, talking about, yeah, how much GTA3 and the Grandinthal franchise had so much influence, right?
Like, to this day, I'll still stand by.
Cympunk is basically a GTA game with some, throw some archie.
RPG elements in there.
Throw some of the fucking core of the game.
Put some part
RPG elements in there.
Put some of the ones we left on the table.
I was also going to bring up Scarface before we picked it.
Scarface is a good one right there.
I almost floated some driver out there.
Of course, like Drive.
Grand Francisco.
I mean, that was Driver 3, right?
Driver 1 was just stunts and shit.
But eventually they were like, oh,
people played this game wanting GTA.
We better merge it to be GTA.
And they weren't cowards about it.
They put the 3 as the E.
And that was always sick as fuck.
And that was the one where you were in coma.
the whole game took place in a coma
and it wasn't like they were hiding it from you.
You knew you were in a coma
because you were body jumping from person to person.
That's how you hijacked guard.
That's good. That's good.
I'm in.
Roger wanted to shout out Yakuza Zero.
That was a big one for Roger.
Yakuza.
When I asked Roger, I was like, Roger, please give me some of your picks.
All he wrote down was Yakuza.
I played them Yakuza games.
I don't know.
I don't know the Gatheza.
I don't know, Roger.
I don't think Yakuza.
I always go to my best friend, Roger,
and I ask him things.
I want to make sure.
Demon Hacker in the chess
is Barrett not picking
Arkham Knight is surprising.
Again, I was looking to win
and I know how much
all of you babies cry about the Batmobile.
So that was like...
Do you consider that a GTA clone?
Arkham Knight?
Spider-Man 2 and the Spider-Man
Gets?
Okay, we can't bring Spider-Man 2
into the equation
and talk about Arkham Knight.
Because then you miss out
on all the context
where we bring out of that game
coming out in 2004.
You know, Baron,
I'm going to say Arc of Night.
You can actually drive around.
All right, cool.
Let's ignore context.
Let's ignore context.
Now, Barrette.
developers looking at fucking GTA 3.
If we were going to select Spider-Man 2,
I was going to go with Man-Eater,
the shark RPG.
Of course, you are a baby pup,
a little white, a great white shark.
And it is your goal to go from the shallows
to the depths and eat more and more wildlife.
I would have been it.
I would have been there.
I know, that's why.
You know, she's got a shout out of great game and man-eater.
All right, I think we have our results.
Are we ready?
Here, go for it.
God damn it
Mike
so in first place
Dead last Greg
With 48% of the votes
You have Mike
Happy holidays
In second place with 29% of the votes
You have Barrett
In third place with 14.94
percent of the votes you have blessing
And in dead last place
With 7.14% of the votes
You have you drafted wheel man
In the first round
It was a clone
It was a clone
It was a street
It was a straight-up clone.
Again, these aren't the game
that you should go play.
The headline is just the clone draft.
I'm drafting clones.
You guys have no fucking idea
what you clicked on
and you voted wrong.
I was battling Mike for a little bit there,
but yeah.
Just for the record.
It was really like Scarface.
What?
Oh, no, go for it.
I think it was that Scarface pick
that really won people at the end,
so I think that's a little recency bias.
Yeah.
I mean, I think I stayed true to it.
I had a lot of fun.
I think St. Stroh, of course,
we have to always highlight
and give some love to,
no matter where you fall on your favorite
St. Roe, that's a franchise that has to be called
out there.
Crackdown getting some love, I think that's going to be a pick
that some people are on.
A lot of people probably not might be on.
But like, you keep going down the list.
I am surprised that Greg didn't get it with sleeping dogs.
A lot of people chirping in the chat that they were loving sleeping dogs.
I'd love to know where they lost Greg.
You know what I mean?
When did Greg get lost on you?
I held a mirror up to them and insulted them a few times and people hate that.
Weelman and Lego Batman.
That's why I let him draft that one because I was like,
that's not a great pick.
Yeah.
My people definitely
revolted against mine
because it's Spider-Man 2.
But here's the thing
that pisses me off.
Even if I remove Spider-Man 2,
I feel like with just
those three other games,
I should be getting a few more votes.
I'm gonna put that out there.
And this is the thing that pisses me off, Michael.
It's the fact that people all the time,
they're like,
all blessing's so young.
Oh, he fucking,
all, blessing has a young taste in video games.
But y'all act like you weren't there in 2004
when Spider-Man 2 fucking came out.
And it was purely a GTA clone.
But hey,
let's all...
You weren't really doing crimes in it, though.
You weren't beating people
up. You weren't seeing them doing crimes. That's why you have to
pick the developers went, hey, let's
just make GTA 3, but put Spider-Man
in it. What, Spider-Man has to do crimes for
it to be a clone? These people don't understand
facts, bless. They're voting with
their heart. They're not understanding the headline wasn't the
best games. It was the clones.
You and I brought, you and I brought
great clones to this table.
But I feel like you're making a different, like
What you say? The chat is wrong.
The straw poll is bad.
Look, I'm gaining points if we would let this go.
I don't know if anybody is paying attention of fantasy
critic. I'm only one point behind Tim
now, everybody. Let this poll go
as well. Mr. Gormichhoff
leave this poll up.
You should let you know, we should
just say, we'll see who has it best.
We leave this up. We make a permalink.
We say it's kind of funny.com slash.
Yeah, let's put the photo up and let's get this thing going.
I like that.
All right.
I'll send you that. Kind of funny.
I'll slack this to Roger and he can tweet
it out. Listeners, you are there. You're
living your life. For the record,
I don't think you have to slack the Raj.
I think we make a, we make the short, slack it to me.
I'll make the short link,
kindof funny.com slash clone.
Then if you're an audio listener, a YouTube watcher later,
you can go and vote.
And as soon as the results sway my way, I will sit here.
It's over.
But you also have to post.
Yeah, you have to post the teams as well.
Yeah, we got to post the teams.
No, you're missing my point.
You're missing my point.
He doesn't want the people to see it.
No, no, no, no, no, no, that's not what I'm saying.
I'm saying, if we go to Twitter and post it out,
all the context is lost.
I already did it.
And somebody's like, oh, Swetterman.
It's like, no.
This is for the watchers and the listeners who are here right
watching this in the archive right now.
I won't tweet this out.
I'm not going to,
I'm not going to do that.
Should we put this in the description then?
No,
this is a treat.
If you made it this far into the episode
and you care that much,
kind of funny.com slash clones with an S.
I feel like he's mobilizing people somehow,
but I'm not.
They're still going to vote against me.
It feels like he has an activation tool or something.
Right now, the tweet I have
is the two screenshots of the fantasy critics
with one point of it,
Hi, Tim Gettys at Tim Gettys.
At GameSpot, how's the Marvel Rivals Review coming?
That's what I'm worried about.
Let's get that review out.
This is all fun in games.
There's no trophy for the best GTA clone.
I'm pretty sure they just released their game of the year,
and now they're just fucking done for the break.
So I don't know if you're going to get that by the end of the year.
Wow.
The state of games journalism.
I know, right?
Fucking taking off the week of Christmas.
How dare people get the time off?
Get to work.
I'm also think about this.
Think about if I got Cyropunk instead of Spider-Man too.
Then how would you feel?
Cyrupunk, definitely.
Could have changed the vote for you.
No, you would have gotten both if you got your way.
Yeah, but if I got it, well, I mean, I'm being hated on.
That does bring us to the end of this kind of funny games cast.
Good job, fellas.
Good job.
Thank you.
We did a draft.
Let's look to give a headline after this.
