Starting point is 00:00:07 What's up everybody? Welcome to the Kind of Funny Games cast for Tuesday, April 1st, No Foolin. 2025. I'm one of your host, Greg Miller, alongside the trio you love to hate, the Jabroney Boys themselves, Snowbike Mike, Nick Scarpino and Andy Cortez. I don't think that's what our tagline is, great. Isn't it? No, the trio you love to hate. I don't see that on the posters anymore.
Starting point is 00:00:34 I'm just saying, like, it could be. Right now it probably is. why where is the fan art I think it's the trio you love to love. You love to love your favorite trio You love to hate each other though right
Starting point is 00:00:44 Well that's Andy loves to hate him a lot We love him so hard Andy hates both of you And then Mike is mad at Andy right now Because of unaccounted for hours Nick's mad at everybody For making him play Pokemon Chris Ankes coming up on Friday
Starting point is 00:01:00 He's gonna be furious To be the same room He's not gonna be happy about this Friday I give Chris like two hours In The Warzone before he's just like Well, I made a terrible mistake. I got, guys, I'm going to work. I got to work on Spider-Man.
Starting point is 00:01:12 What's going to be worse is Chris Anka being here and the war zone server is not working. Just not meltdown. Well, it launches Thursday. Oh, okay. If that happens, Chris Anka, let me talk to you about Monster Hunter Wilds. Let's talk to you. Let's get out there. I mean, honestly, if that happens, we go, oops, it doesn't work.
Starting point is 00:01:28 And we take Chris Anka out to dinner and just repay him for all the hours and hours of the shit we have given him. Is he staying over or is he going right back? I think he's going right. back. I think we got him a room, but I think he's like, well, just in case. I think he's, I think his flight's like super early anymore. It's in housekeeping, but let's do that. Let's talk about it. Given the pitch of what's happening on Friday. Of course, ladies and gentlemen and NBs, of course, we're excited to return to Verdansk. This Friday, Verdantzsk returns after 1,200 days away, three years since these boys
Starting point is 00:01:57 hot-dropped Howard Hospital. Verdaen launched in 2020. Yeah, it's been five years since it first started. Wild. Three years since we could last play it. And so we're going to do a big marathon. on stream on Friday to get the boys back together. And guess what? All four of us will be live in the studio together. Chris Sank is coming up. Andy has given us a full day of nothing but call duty action. And me and Nick, we're just excited to be back.
Starting point is 00:02:22 Oh, that's not good. There we go. That's not good. We got some costumes. We got a cool backdrop. We're so excited about this, Andy. We're so excited for you. Andy, how excited are you?
Starting point is 00:02:35 So the way that they pitched this, me was like they called me into the room and it felt like the way they're pitching it to me was we're leaving the company that's how much desperation they had and like like they closed it door and like all right andy you know hear us out they said chris anka wants to come up here hey look i'm excited to hop back into verdansk we we i'll just where i cut my teeth it's why i discovered that like holy shit i'm crazy at this video cracked cracked yeah let me explain something to you Greg. A lot of people don't think I'm a good negotiator.
Starting point is 00:03:08 Mostly because I'm terrible. Mostly because anytime anyone wants to do anything with us, I want them to like us. So I just give them that. That's why Tim does all the negotiations for the business deals. What I'll say is this. Me and Mike, this is a master class. We sold Chris on Andy and Andy on Chris. We did.
Starting point is 00:03:27 We told Chris that Andy was super head. We worked them. We played them like a fiddle. God. You got them. We're so back this Friday. We're returning big marathon stream on Friday. Just to celebrate the end of the week and, of course, to celebrate a big day for all of us being back together.
Starting point is 00:03:45 It's going to be great. Now, have we leveled up any of the weapons to be in the meta? Are we prepared for this? Absolutely not. I checked the current meta. And we're so far off. Yeah, so far off. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:55 Oh, man. Yeah. It was getting great time. Yeah. If you want to get ready, you should be grinding this week. No, no. Chris is sworn off of it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:04 Because of you guys. No, well, probably. Probably because of me. Two thirds of us. Yeah, yeah, yeah. There's a lot of ranked gameplay with me and Nick. We talked about triangle offenses. We talked about communication.
Starting point is 00:04:16 We talked about who's watching what windows. And maybe Chris looked at it as like, you guys aren't doing anything. I'm out. Chris is like, watch that window. I'm like, I'll watch this window. We just get distracted. You just get bored. You're friends out of there.
Starting point is 00:04:28 Nick goes to go loot and pick something up and it's over. I'm excited because they're bringing back the OG helicopter. And that's where I. really thrives. You know, the team hot drops into a building. We need all four guns to be shooting at enemy combatants. No, there's Mike. A thousand meters away flying the opposite direction.
Starting point is 00:04:44 Just dipping on people. And you're just here. Just dip it on you. The sound effect of your teammate going down. Where are you? Why the fuck are you? You see his ping fucking. I was going to some crazy.
Starting point is 00:04:57 Goulog is back. I'm excited for the gulog fights. We'll see all of this Friday as part of our big stream to celebrate the return. of course twitch.tv.tv.com slash funny games. YouTube.com slash kind of funny games or is this one of those you're going to go so long early on Twitch. I think we'll probably go
Starting point is 00:05:12 Twitch exclusive. Yeah, it's just going to blow it up. Later on YouTube.com slash kind of funny games. And of course, this is why this comradery, this peanut butter and jelly and bread situation y'all got going on. He holds us together. Why you're here today to talk about Den of Wolves, another co-op shooter that'll be
Starting point is 00:05:28 taking the world by storm. We assume maybe we'll hear Andy's preview in a second. Kind of funny games daily already happened, and it was your final Nintendo switch to rumors and speculation. After this, we're monster hunting. We're back where we should be. where the big boys play. But more importantly, of course, is that tomorrow, Wednesday, April 2nd, I'm cashing in stars in the bank on Tim Geddes.

Follow that up with a Kind of Funny Games Daily hosted by Paris Lily and Gary Whittah before getting into an extended Pokemon Nuslock stream. What's important about all that is it is happening early. All of that content is kicking off before Games Daily is usually even live. So strap in, catch up when you can. YouTube.com slash Kind of Funny Games Podcast. services around the globe. Of course, it's a brand new month,
Starting point is 00:07:36 which means it's a brand new premium item on Patreon.com slash Kind of Funny. Cool Greg has his very own poster designed by the incredible Pandamus, including some mini-fig versions of the entire team. You can grab this month's premium item before it hits the bricks at patreon.com slash kind of funny.
Starting point is 00:07:52 Of course, Pandamus. Did you write that? No. Oh. Roger put that in there. Nice. If we can look at the image, that'd be great too. It's in assets. I don't think Roger is meeting is over for him to actually get it up.
Starting point is 00:08:01 Hit the bricks is great. Starting point is 00:08:31 Carl Jacobs and Omega Buster. Today we're brought to you by Lost Skies, Monaco, 2, and Rocket Money. But we'll tell you about that later. For now, let's begin the show with what is and forever will be topic of the show. Tats, Tots, Tots, Tats, Tats, Tats. Andy Cortez. It's hard to get you out of this office. You love being with Mike so much.
Starting point is 00:08:51 You just want to hang out in that streaming room. Mike tells me all the time, Andy doesn't want to go to this event. He doesn't want to do this. He just wants to hang out with me. During GDC, I believe you got to go play Down of Wolves, yes? Yeah, yeah, sure did. Of course, Den of Wolves is developed and publisher by 10 Chambers. Release date not announced yet.
Starting point is 00:09:08 Steam description reads, Den of Wolves is a co-op heist FPS from the creators of Payday the Heist, Payday 2, and GTFO. In this techno-thriller, you and your friends operate as criminals for hire in the conflicts between rival corporations in Midway City. Gather your crew, design the plane, gear up, and execute the heist. Of course, GTFO, one of those games that has had a community around it for quite some time.
Starting point is 00:09:33 Right. Ten Chambers has had a lot from that. Metacritic of 78, but the game's been around a long time and got a lot of buzz at the game awards when they announced Den of Wolves the first time around. Excited to hear, Andy. What did you get to play? What did you think of it? Are the Gibroni Boys, the group, the trio, I love to hate. Going to drop in it. Well, GTFO is a game that I've always wanted to stream with Greg.
Starting point is 00:09:52 Oh, we need to figure out a day where all of us play with Greg. Okay. I love that. It's just great content. Okay. GTF is similar to, payday where it's just a team versus the computer. Sure. Okay. Okay. The enemies are... PVEE, you know, I love. The enemies are like based on movement. So like if you, you know,
Starting point is 00:10:09 gross ass alien is like, you know, on the ground. And then it'll suddenly like start kind of breathing. And you know they're like, stop moving. Stop fucking moving. Who fucking moved? Why? God damn it. And it all just goes to hell. That's cool. It's like a game. We played it a lot during the pandemic. And we had a great time with it. But this is their follow-up. Den of Wolves. And I remember the first time, we were shown it. I was like, oh shit, that's from the GTFO devs. That's awesome. That game rocks. And my initial worry was, oh, this is going to be another extraction shooter amongst all of the
Starting point is 00:10:45 extraction shooters where you and your squad will go against a computer, but there's other squads around, you know, the server. And it, you know, that requires a player base. And, you know, We were there when we try to play the cycle frontier, you know. Oh, we had some great times. We had some great times and that game got shut down, right? And like, that's always a story with these. And then I was so delighted to find out that that's not what this game is. This is just, this is a follow-up to what GTFO and what payday would have been.
Starting point is 00:11:17 This is a another co-op game where you are just against the AI. You're just playing against the PC or against the NPC computer. and you are, you're doing a heist, but in a very cyberpunk style world. And I think it's a really cool story where they essentially have built a gigantic mega city because AI went fucking crazy and AI people were able to get into all sorts of financial systems
Starting point is 00:11:45 and all that stuff with AI. Thank God this is a different reality in the future. But in this reality, they built a city that all of the security is based on like bio networks now where AI cannot get into. So that requires criminals to then go that criminals got to kind of wiseen up to that. And we are the criminals. We're not good guys. We are just, we're trying to just heist.
Starting point is 00:12:11 We're trying to heist. And the cool thing about these bio networks is that not only are you breaking into places to try to very similar to a payday where you have to get the bags and you put them out and you can, you know, put them all in that little spot or whatever. but you also will enact this sort of procedure, this mechanic called the dive. And the dive is pretty much inception going into the person of whoever's owning this place, whoever is the leader of whatever spot that we're in. We dive into their subconscious and have to kind of like do a thing to then get to continue the highest essentially, right? Okay. And it's very, very cool.
Starting point is 00:12:53 the way that it's done. But visually the game is awesome. The gunplay feels freaking great. The AI feels awesome as well. The amount of times that I was getting cornered and shit like that, and this is a look into what the dive is. And the dive can be a multitude of things. Right here, we're seeing this weird sort of trippy,
Starting point is 00:13:10 running around floating structures, but the dive can also be, I wrote a bunch of the stuff that they were mentioning right here, that the dive can also be like, a snowy mountain top because that has to do with that person
Starting point is 00:13:28 subconscious or it could be a totally different like you know place in Japan or whatever like it's the subconscious will always kind of feel and look different
Starting point is 00:13:38 and then when you pop out of the dive you have to make sure that you're in cover where you go into the dive that's another cool thing where you have to get the fucking cover because the AI will go shoot you
Starting point is 00:13:48 as you are doing the dive procedure and then you may not be a lot I guess when you come back. I was too goaded, so I never died. Never died? You never died? You know that. How long did you get to play for?
Starting point is 00:13:59 I died a lot, quite a bit. Played for about maybe an hour to an hour and a half. We played two different missions. One was a bit sort of smaller, and then this larger heist had a lot more different areas of entry and a lot more places to evacuate from. And similar to a payday when we would play back in the day, Mike, we, there are different levels of success where you'll know how many bags of loot
Starting point is 00:14:29 that you can take from this place and you could succeed by only taking five but if you grab all 20 or whatever that obviously heightens the difficulty and the AI will be really responsive and pissed off if you are not if you're allowing them to kind of... Were you seeing that in your play-thru? Oh yeah, the amount of times
Starting point is 00:14:49 that we would feel safe for a little bit and then the reinforcements start to pop up. Okay. And they were deadlier and deadlier and they were scarier and scarier. And some of them were, um, I, some of them were kind of like cloaked at some point and you would have to shoot them so
Starting point is 00:15:04 their, their cloaking device goes off. Uh, everything felt really cool and intense as hell. Like I was very, I felt nervous just playing against this enemy AI because I wanted to succeed and I wanted to have a successful, um, a successful,
Starting point is 00:15:20 um, but yeah, I was just super, encouraged by what I got to play. It was a lot of fun. I want to play a lot more with when this game eventually drops. I want to let Mike off. Yeah, we've got a lot of questions.
Starting point is 00:15:31 I want to say thank you to 10 chambers, the developer themselves in the YouTube chat right now. Oh, hey. They say, they do say in all caps, we formally invite both Andy and Greg to stream GTFO with us. We should do that crossover content. Hell yeah. Thank you for supporting us and congrats on the game sounding great.
Starting point is 00:15:47 Mike, go get them. Andy, let's dive into it. I want to know all about this game. I have a lot of questions. let's start from the beginning. What does the setup look like? Do we have loadouts? Do we choose what entry points do we go into?
Starting point is 00:15:58 You bring up this heist, right? So it's like, I think of, of course, payday. What is the look of the starting of this match? So you, they did a pretty cool job of setting the scene for feeling kind of like a campaign where you are kind of walking through zones and you're hearing the news, you know, the news on the TV talking about like, Oh, the real fucked up thing happened last night to whatever corporation. And you sort of get like, okay, we're getting story here as well.
Starting point is 00:16:31 We're learning about corporations. We're hearing about the thing that we just did on the news, which is kind of neat, you know. And I think depending on how successful you are or not, you'll, all of that sort of news will be kind of procedural on how they deliver the news to you. But that's all just like set dressing, right? but you're kind of walking towards whatever this next big heist is going to be. And you start off with a loadout very similar to, it reminds me a lot more of GTFO, where the loadout will show you.
Starting point is 00:17:00 You can start off with kind of primary weapon or secondary weapon, and it's either going to be like an AR or the DMR. The DMR is the one that I went with. I love a single shot DMR. And that's the one that they all kind of recommended because it sounded great. And once I got in there, the feedback and the sound design of, Just those single shot headshots felt so cool to execute.
Starting point is 00:17:22 And then you choose gadgetry. And one of the gadgets that we kept on kind of defaulting to because it was so sick, it's in the footage that we just saw, you throw out like a little shield and you can shoot through it, but enemies can't shoot through you. Now those shields can be damaged. Those shields will need a cool down in order to get back. But you also have to retrieve your shield. If you throw it down and you're kind of like using this space for cover and you know we're at this vault right now getting this, we're moving to the next one over here. You've got to make sure to pick that shit up or else you're not going to have it on you. So there was also that sort of tangible feel to this isn't just a cool down item that you have infinite of. And I liked knowing that, oh, should I forgot my shield over there? God damn. I'm going to have to hopefully go retrieve it or not die here and have to pop off and hit all my head shots or whatever.
Starting point is 00:18:13 I got some more. Yeah, what's up? Well, I have a question to stop right there because I want you to get into the game. But Nick Scarpino, is this doing anything for you, of course? Well, as you know, Greg, I'm traumatized from the last time I played a game like this, which was payday with Ron Funches, where he made fun of me relentlessly for three hours. Wait, wait, wait, wait. He made fun of you for not paying attention, for breaking from the plan. Yeah, that was a great moment.
Starting point is 00:18:35 Not Ron Funches' fault. We had to break. That was like, I was looking at me the wrong way, dude. That was funny as shit. That was a great moment. It's a shocker that Chris Ang is not excited for Friday. He's cautiously optimistic. No, I mean, this looks awesome.
Starting point is 00:18:50 This looks like a lot of fun. We're definitely going to have some laughs playing this and just getting into it. I mean, as long as the shooting mechanic feels good, you know I'm in for this. I think the reason why I loved it a lot more was because we got right into the action of it, right into the thick of it. You can be sneaking around earlier on. there will be sneaky sort of situations where you're always kind of masked in a Greg you know when you throw out a chaff grenade in metal gear solid and you guys you know cameras can't see you're kind of you're kind of being cloaked in the beginning of these sneaking missions and you can go up and try to like knife dudes or but if you get spotted
Starting point is 00:19:32 then things will kind of go off so there is some sneaking involved I enjoyed a lot more of that section as opposed to what payday was offering in addition to the really big when things go off it just feels awesome and the enemies are fun to shoot and you're also just not you know shooting up fucking Jill in accounting
Starting point is 00:19:54 you know god damn yeah it was a crazy time back yeah it was a crazy time mistakes were made it was a crazy time but something about this lawlessness
Starting point is 00:20:03 in this world I love the believability of this area that they're kind of of this world that there are no electronic security systems. It's all bio network stuff. And that's how we are essentially going into somebody's subconscious.
Starting point is 00:20:18 And just like Inception, we are planting a memory. We are planting a something. I will say those sections, the only reason why I'm not 1 million percent sold on them. I love them just in concept, but they were parkour kind
Starting point is 00:20:34 of challenges and you had to get to the end of it in order to succeed the dive. I was hoping for more. And maybe this is something they'll implement because this game's going to launch into early access. It's not going to be... We don't have a date, right? No date, yeah. But I hope it's something that they'll implement and hopefully the devs are listening, obviously,
Starting point is 00:20:51 because the parkour was cool. I wanted also more of like a destiny sort of implementation where you are running and you're trying to get to the end of whatever this dive is, but three things pop up and you got to shoot them all like timed and stuff. I hope that there's more... More raid mechanics? I hope that there's more raid mechanic stuff kind of implemented to
Starting point is 00:21:08 kind of add to the excitement of it all. But the, just the kind of the rhythm of sneaking and then eventually when things pop off the level of coordination to you, that our squad needed, it just felt way more intense than any of the other PVEE experiences I've had. You know, me and Mike, we know that Rainbow 6th extraction got fucked, you know, it got, it got fucked up. I deserve good better squad. Deserved a higher score for you, Mike. But this felt a lot more, I would say, intense. than Rainbow Sixth extraction. And I enjoyed that game.
Starting point is 00:21:43 I played a lot of hours of it. This felt like something I really want to sink my teeth into because the setting was also a lot more enjoyable. Visually stunning as hell. It is cyberpunk looking. It is futuristic. It's really, really sick. All the gadgetry was a lot of fun.
Starting point is 00:21:58 I have two questions then off the bat. One's for 10 chambers in the chat, since they're just there answering our audience's questions, which is amazing. Thank you so much to confirm. Somebody asked, will there be, is the only PC is a coming to consoles? Ten chambers responded.
Starting point is 00:22:10 have a console release in mind, but got to make the game good on PC first. They say they are confirming, making sure it feels good on controllers. My question for 10 chambers is, how big is the team? And then back to you, Andy, is the team at 10 chambers? Yeah. They started off at 10 and they are now a little bit above 100. Oh, shit, okay, cool. Yeah. And then my question for you is, did they talk about, or did you see, or like, how many of these inception things, maps are, inception and maps in general? Like, how, Are we grinding out the same things over and over again to do the whole meta of it? Or is that there's a lot of different content for it to go? Is it a narrative that stretched together?
Starting point is 00:22:49 I think that they mentioned that there would be like two, like the Promise District is the first big area. It's got luxury and slums. And I think that like they're going for, they're aiming for four mission types. There's espionage, there's corporate sabotage, assassinations, and prototype theft. Okay. And the prototype theft is like where you're going into steel technology from the corporation to then sell it to the highest bid or whatever the hell, right? I don't remember what their plan was for the launch of early access.
Starting point is 00:23:16 I think they said it was like one or two big sort of map encounters. But aside from that, I don't quite remember what the specifics were. Because again, what we're seeing looks awesome. I guess because then the third question, again, and this is selfish, I'm sorry. Am I going to vibe? Because it feels like everything you're saying, I feel like I'm going to vibe. Is it getting so, it's not getting nerdy of like this attachment and that and then the bullet drops and then this and like, no, right?
Starting point is 00:23:41 No, you are buying pretty straightforward weapons at the start of a match, and I got to assume that it has to deal with how successful your last high swore, right? And you buy whatever weapons you want, and then you could have, reminded me a lot of the gadgetry kind of reminded me of the division, too,
Starting point is 00:23:57 when we really fucked with that, where the, not only the shield was an option where you could shoot through it. It got up and abruptly left, and I was like, he's about to sneeze or something. He's got an important phone call. Now, just coming back with the Starbucks, the bucks dropped,
Starting point is 00:24:10 bucks drop. It's important. Mike's going to crush this chocolate croissant in the middle of the show. Not only those shields were there, but there's also a little mini turret that you could throw down. That saved us quite a bit in a lot of moments where I went down at one point and you could only
Starting point is 00:24:26 crawl so far before you can get res. So I crawled as far as I could but I was right around a corner so I was kind of like trying to be a third eye for them being like, there's two more dudes, there's three more dudes, there's two more dudes, you know, I was trying to call those out, but one of, uh, Vlad was on our
Starting point is 00:24:44 squad and he threw down a turret to, and there was a shield in front of me as well, and the turret was taking dudes out as he was resigning me. It's just like, man, it had such a, it reminded me of like the best times of our division gameplay. And again, the gameplay, I'd miss
Starting point is 00:25:00 the division so much. And I want to eventually go back to that world and have those co-op experiences. This is the closest I felt to that in a long time. Right there in the chat, 10 Chambers says, for early access, we're aiming for one district, the Promise District, and that district will have a variety of missions, that form a storyline. My question then comes
Starting point is 00:25:15 back to you then of like, what does progression look like? What am I coming out of a match with and what am I doing with it? I have to assume it's very similar to the payday like structure where you are either leveling up weapons, leveling up, like, or
Starting point is 00:25:31 unlocking more gear to then buy later on when we're talking about like the utility functionality or you're getting either the turret or shields and things, like that. I didn't get a whole lot of glimpse of that because we were just so focused on making sure that this
Starting point is 00:25:47 mission went well. And then we really, really royally fucked up at the end of the mission. Because one cool thing, Mike, if you remember in GTFO, and Nick played GTFO with us as well, there were moments... Thanks for inviting me, guys.
Starting point is 00:25:59 There were moments in GTFO that really weren't in payday. I guess payday definitely had a lot of this, but it reminds me a lot more of GTFO where... We've hit this sort of checkpoint in the mission. We all have to gather in this circle, and all of us have to be there to upload the next thing to unlock the next part of the mission, right?
Starting point is 00:26:21 So there's, in GTFO, I distinctly remember there being moments where two of those circles were up, and you could have two go to each one, or you could have all four go to one circle and the other four go to another circle, and everybody sort of wait there and kind of progress this point. progression bar, whether it would be a hacking thing or your device breaking into a safe, I love moments like that where it's like, oh, do we split with a team right here? Or do we go, all of us sort of separate in this moment? And I really sort of enjoy the strategy there. So those are the things that kind of reminded me a lot of my GTFO experiences where it's like, we can get this done a lot faster if we split up, but that's way riskier. And I lost my shield over there.
Starting point is 00:27:08 and I'm low on ammo right now. You know, like there are a lot of things that happen to you that you might feel like you'll have to change plans on the fly. Now, when you're going into these safes to try to find the key to open up the grand safe, these safes will have little health packs and ammo pickups and one of our extraction options was like, do we break the big wall window to then escape out of here at the end?
Starting point is 00:27:35 Do we do that at the start? Or do we wait to do it at the end? Like, I just love that sort of, that push and pool of strategy. Yeah, it sounds cool, so... Yeah, it really was a lot of fun. The... And they also mentioned a documentary they're working on called Do the Game. And it's an eight-episode series that they want to showcase just, like, how grueling game development can be.
Starting point is 00:28:03 And the, you know, moments of... honesty of arguments and shit like that. Like it kind of reminds me of watching some of those the last of us document or the Cory Barlog God of War documentary, you know? They're working on a series that they're like in talks to shop it out, which I think is like genius because it reminds me of, it reminds me of welcome to Wrexham.
Starting point is 00:28:28 Like, let's have a documentary about our soccer team. And then suddenly people are going to get really, really into the soccer team. Yeah. Like this could be one of those, this is a documentary about this video game. what do people get really, really into the video game as well? You know, I... It's kind of like how Tim wasn't into getting married
Starting point is 00:28:43 until they started watching the Real Housewives. Exactly. Exactly. It's crazy. God, finally somebody said that you. I'm just going to shop it around and just put it up on kind of funny, you know? We'll buy it for $30. They're like, Netflix or kind of like... Hey, man, put us both on the map to the same time.
Starting point is 00:28:58 Well, let's put it this way. We can't afford it, but we'll help you start a bidding war with Netflix. Exactly, exactly. Yeah, they mentioned, I also wanted to go through some of the other examples of what these dives are because I think the dive has the most potential, in my opinion, to set itself apart from other games like this. And I think a lot of it just has to do with the variety and the differentiation of we are in this obviously cyberpunk world, but now we are diving into this
Starting point is 00:29:25 person's mind to plant a memory of some sort or to plant an idea. Yeah, the dive sounds super cool and super interesting, just like the Kind of Funny membership. He said, don't forget, Mike, we got a call.
Starting point is 00:33:01 But I was like, call it who? I'm trying to talk to Andy. You won't get back to Andy. Don't worry about it. Oh, I thought he said calling audible. What's he calling? Hello? Is this Alfredo Diaz?
Starting point is 00:33:08 Oh, God. Yes, this is. Hey, this is Greg. Yeah, this is Greg. Hey, man, how you doing? I've talked to you in a long time. Yeah, man, I'm doing it. What's up?
Starting point is 00:33:15 You're live on Twitch and YouTube right now. It's on the kind of funny gamescast. We're talking about Denna Wolves. It might be a game you're interested in, but that's not why I'm calling. I'm not sure if you're aware, but I have the stars in the bank briefcase, which means I can cash in my stars in the bank briefcase
Starting point is 00:33:29 and take three stars from Tim if I can beat them in a trivia game, which we all know I can. And I'm doing this tomorrow during the Nintendo Switch to Direct. And Tim's already upset about that information, but I wanted to call you. I'm going right now.
Starting point is 00:33:41 I already called Curran, calling you, I'm calling all of his best friends. And I think tomorrow when I take those stars from him during his most holy of holy days, he's going to be pretty devastated. So I wanted to make sure you were on call
Starting point is 00:33:56 to pick him up and give him a call and say, hey. This has got to be like a joke, right? I mean, I've never joke when it comes to stars. in the bank, sir. Greg, you can't do this to him. I mean, it's been, I've called my shot. The briefcase, when I won the briefcase, Fredo, I was told I could cash in whatever I want to
Starting point is 00:34:15 and I want to cash it in now. You can, Greg, you can cash it whenever you want, but I mean, this is kind of like, this is below the bell. This is putting the man six foot under. You can't do this to Tim. It's called cruel and unusual punishment. It's what he deserves for, you know,
Starting point is 00:34:27 getting the easy questions. Andy, does he get the easy questions? He does. Thank you very much. I got a question about call duty. Right, but then I, I feel like we need to like take us take a step back and look at the questions and see if it's really validated that they're easier or not. But like on the holiest of days for this man, it's going to ruin him forever.
Starting point is 00:34:46 Yeah. We'll have nothing left. I mean, that's the point, Alfredo. That's the hope. That's the hope. That's the desire. All right. We're sick of losing to him on this.
Starting point is 00:34:53 So we're crushing his soul. All right. So listen, this wasn't Fredo's standup hour. I was calling trying to be nice telling you to get ready to pick up your loser friend. All right. Well, I'm telling you. Jesus. Oh, wow.
Starting point is 00:35:07 They just hang up on them. And that's the thing. Nick knows better than anybody, right, with these former rooster teeth folks, right? They've all got this free time. They're all fucking fired and just living in cardboard boxes. They can just talk and talk and talk and talk and talk. Can we get back to Den of Wolves?
Starting point is 00:35:20 That's all we're trying to do right now. Thank you 10 Chambers for giving away so many GTFO codes in the YouTube chat. You're fantastic. I like having a developer here. I'm sorry. I'm tilted, as the kids would say. You are tilted. You're a little tilted.
Starting point is 00:35:33 And I want to talk about intent. I want to talk about intensity and most importantly ambiance as well because I think the ambiance can lead in and build into the intensity. Okay. So for GTFO, I think the ambiance, the setting, the nature of the game built and kind of ramped up that intensity to the next level, right? Of like you're strictly in the dark. You roll up on a scary alien you never seen before and you freak out, right? This is more of a cyberpunk setting, right? Something we've seen before nothing, like it's not in the dark and stuff.
Starting point is 00:36:02 how did that setting go? Was there ambiance? Because when I think of the same, I think of some really cool, awesome atmospheric stuff that you don't see in many other games. Yeah, there were similar things being implemented in here that I experienced that I remember from GTFO. There's an enemy in GTFO, Greg,
Starting point is 00:36:20 that obviously I already told you about the ones that are asleep and once they start breathing, that's when you know you got a, it's like a red light green light situation. But there are other enemies, Mike, if Mike and Nick remember that send out tendrils of like hot of like not tentacles but they were just like tendrils and they're out there and they they retract and go out every i don't know how many but you have to know that like if they
Starting point is 00:36:46 you can't run away while that's happening because you're making noise at that point but when those tendrils go out you have to avoid them and not get touched by them because that's that's that's them being aware of like oh shit somebody's here in the room or whatever and uh they implement that sort of same mechanic with some of the guards in this game where that's like their kind of like their their their AI awareness level or whatever and they will you'll see those things go out and you're like oh shit I got to back up back up and you're like and you'll see it kind of extending towards you're like oh my god I don't want to run to then you know make somebody aware that I'm here and make noise but I have to move fast enough so that I don't
Starting point is 00:37:23 get touched by this in that moment so um the intensity is absolutely there atmospheric and just the the ambiance of like how awesome the cyberpunk lighting is and everything all of that totally like fits great and looks amazing this is running on unity six i was pretty blown away by that because like unity's got it and they've had it for a while now um but this looks really awesome and very very impressive visually a creed in the chat says uh gregg would actually do very well in gtFO he usually sticks to the objective pretty well he has a laughing squirt a lot i do though i'm usually the one who gets complimented for staying on objective That's why I think Greg would dig this game in GTFO because it isn't that PVP, it's a PVE setting where you and the team worked to overcome things battling against the AI. And we saw Hell Divers with massive success right now. It's like there is a audience for these PVEE cooperative titles because when I think intensity, me and Nick go to, we like that question mark, that unknown of another team. Right.
Starting point is 00:38:26 There's this, hey, the AI is just the AI will always stick to the path. or usually do AI-like things. What we always found the intensity was, is like the AI adds to that, but it's really the other team coming after us. Does the AI really bring an intensity? Is it bullet maybe like you only can take a couple of hits? Is it there so many it overwhelmed you?
Starting point is 00:38:47 How do you build that intensity when there isn't somebody on the other side of the keyboard doing something totally different. Getting swarmed from a lot of different shooting angles was what was incredibly intense? No, no. you know, I'm vetoing this one comment. You just couldn't play with the rest of these guys. They can't file an objective when it's written right on their screen. No, I'm going to stop you right there.
Starting point is 00:39:07 Stop him right now. You get, uh, hit the brakes. Hit the brakes. Greg is actually good at running through objectives. What he's not good at is leading a team and waiting for the people who may not be as good at video games as him. I thought he was coming after us. No, he is coming after us. but I'm defending us because
Starting point is 00:39:29 By desperately trying to turn it on me He knows the target is on him right now for Chris Hey, wait a second now Chris, Okay, I will put it for the juries, uh, you know, to look at right now. What is the jury to look at?
Starting point is 00:39:45 Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I'd like to show you this thing to look at. I'd like to roll out this TV for the jury's edification. I played Diablo with Greg for a while. He's played Diablo. Did you? How long did you play Diablo? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:39:56 I don't remember this at all. We played for a solid three or four hours. We played a couple sessions. We did play a couple sessions. And I distinctly remember being like, I don't know where we're going. I don't know what we're doing. I have no idea how to play this game. And after 15 minutes of Greg dadding me, he's like, you know what, Nick?
Starting point is 00:40:13 And this is what he said. This is his verbatim. Tell what he says. I already have a small child at home. Oh, okay. I don't need to deal with one at work. And he left my ass behind. And then all of a sudden I'm just the ghost.
Starting point is 00:40:24 Now, let me just throw something out there. You know, kind of good. Maybe you come to Greg's defense because I'm on both sides. You know, Greg isn't the team leader. He's the wild card of the group. Exactly. He's the guy who's going to,
Starting point is 00:40:36 he's going to drink a bunch of Coca-Cola's, and all of a sudden he's either with the team or he's against the team. And that's why he's on the squad. Remember we tried? You're going to play a war as though? He doesn't hold up in a bathroom. I was like, Greg, it's the team thing.
Starting point is 00:40:47 We need all four of us. So it's like, you know, we're all Rio Ripley. My man, man, Greg, he's not the team leader. It falls on us. You know what I mean? We're the team leaders. and like, I look at Andy.
Starting point is 00:40:57 He's our team leader. I always say it every time we play. No, that's not true at all. That's not true at all. I say it every time we play. I don't even know what we're talking about. We're talking about intensity against the AI. There are these games where me and Nick, in particular,
Starting point is 00:41:10 like the intensity of when you add the PVP element, there's the unknown of what the other players are capable of. When you're playing against the AI, there are sometimes this like mindless feel of it's not hard enough or they're not bringing enough pressure. And usually just, comes down, well, they just overwhelm me with a thousand of them. Right. For me, it feels,
Starting point is 00:41:29 it feels you start to, you start to feel like it's pre-programmed. And I think that is always something that takes me out of an experience like this. That's why I look for experiences more like a war zone where, yes, it's the same game and it's the same basic concept every single time. And more,
Starting point is 00:41:45 for more often than not, you're getting a similar experience, but every once in a while something crazy will happen because some player will just go completely gonzo. Do you feel like there's an opportunity for that in here with the AI. I mean, I think there's enough unpredictable moments
Starting point is 00:42:01 that can happen. Just based on our experience with GTFO and how difficult that was, that was always their version of like, hey, you've played a lot of other PVE games. This one's really hard. And you have to be on your peas and cues. You have to mind them.
Starting point is 00:42:19 You have to mind both. You have to mind your boys and gentlemen, the jury. You have to mind your peas and the cues. The peas and the cues? Yeah. That's wow. You dot your P's and you cross your cues.
Starting point is 00:42:27 You have to be on your shit or else things will go haywire and then you will eventually lose. Now, I can't solve your problem if you'd rather die to other players or you'd rather die to the CPU. That's more of a personal preference deal or whatever. But I still find a lot of excitement in trying to overcome a really, really tough challenge. Interesting. Especially when two of your dudes are down and you're trying to go for that res, but you're being
Starting point is 00:42:53 surrounded from all areas. Like, I really love the intensity there. And that's, I think it all comes down to player preference. Because I, I also love the excitement of running into another team in, in, in the cycle or. What was that? What was the one we went to? It was like medieval. Were you jumping?
Starting point is 00:43:08 Oh, dark and dark dark. Yeah. And that shit's always fun. But I, you know, when me and Mike previewed, um, arc raiders way back in the day, we had a lot of fun for those few sessions. And the immediate thought I have to go to is like, Well, when will that feeling lose its luster, right? And like, that's always a way to kind of look at it from, you know, the glass half empty.
Starting point is 00:43:32 Well, there's also the opposite where it's when, in order to have that experience, you need other players on the other side. Yeah. What happens if you don't get those. Of course, of course. That's always, that was the problem with the cycle is I think we cooled on it and then I think it just died fast because of the player base just evaporate. Yeah. Yeah. So that's a thing that you need for those games to have those emergent gameplay.
Starting point is 00:43:53 experiences. For me, I just love the difficulty that we experience in this game and having your bag against the wall and trying to clutch up. And man, we thought we were going to get all of the bags of loot. We only have six so far. Can we even get these last six right here? Because the enemy has just like, wizened up and started bringing new sort of enemy types into the fold. Consideration. That's what I was looking for. The jury's consideration. Or your consideration. Yeah. We got there. We got there. We got it.
Starting point is 00:44:25 Did we? We made it work. Andy, this is a fantastic preview. Thank you. You did a good job today. Yeah, you bring us next time. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:31 Yeah. What the hell? Where are we? Bring us. Uh, check the fucking slack. I'm checking the slack. But also cross-referencing with the Gallander.
Starting point is 00:44:39 I just always assume that if it's like, hey, there's a cool preview event. Pokemon day by ourselves, you know, cross-reference of the calendar. Yeah. Yeah, let me look at Monday March 3rd when I said. We let our little birding free. Anybody else get an invite to play Denna Woolz here in SF, and the next one three minutes later, March 17th, you down to go, and I tagged Mike and Blessing.
Starting point is 00:45:02 It's Desmond A GTFO, and that game kicks ass. No response. Cross-referenced the calendar now. March 17th, what were we doing? I mean, you could just respond. Dear Judge, cross-reference it. Your Honor. I'm not going to do that.
Starting point is 00:45:13 Instead, I mean, we can easily flip this back in Andy. We're flipping it. We've talked about this on content before we've never mentioned the project. Yeah. But there was a redacted thing of, would you guys want, to go to Sweden. With me.
Starting point is 00:45:26 And then there was a fucking it's been three weeks March 10th was the last thing where we finally got
Starting point is 00:45:31 80 to respond. You pinged them on the thread. On March 7th you go ping Andy Krentez and he goes when would this be?
Starting point is 00:45:39 And he said it three days later on the 10th. I immediately respond two hours later end of April. March 10th 1119 a.m.
Starting point is 00:45:46 That's the end of the conversation. You never said. The threads. They can't see them. They don't I get it. I don't, I'm not, I don't,
Starting point is 00:45:55 I don't even know what's happening notifications-wise, but I, like, halfway through watching aliens or predators the other night, I see a Slack saying, make sure you watch Predators. I'm like, oh, man, I'm glad I'm watching it because I definitely didn't see the, a lot of threads.
Starting point is 00:46:07 A lot of threads. It's a lot of threads. Which threads do you pool? Maybe we need more channels in Slack. Maybe we should start more channels. I mean, the channel would be better than the thread, right? Here's what we do. We start a channel called, hey, Andy.
Starting point is 00:46:19 And it's just, I will quit. I will quit. I will quit. We somehow go in and make it it like his front page of slides every notification is from hey-in- What are you doing, Andy?
Starting point is 00:46:34 What's going on? I think this game has so much promise. I think it's a lot of fun. We're going to have a blast. I think if you are the type of person who because there's so many audiences that haven't really been
Starting point is 00:46:47 fed good shit for certain genres, right? and I think of like, there's an audience for people that go, man, I just want a couch co-op game to play with like friends and family or whatever. And I recommended Greg Towerborn the other day. This is the type of game that it's like,
Starting point is 00:47:02 me and my friends, man, we hop into war zone, we get our asses whipped, we hop in a call it. Like, I just want to play a game with friends online that's just like a coordinated. This is it. This is the division experience I've been looking for for quite some time because it has all those makings and trappings of what I love about, you know, stealthing and then going, all right, there's two enemies there.
Starting point is 00:47:24 We both have the headshot at the same time. And that was also in GTFO of like, we're shooting on go, right? It's going to be three, two, one, go. And having that synchronization, having that level of just like needing to team up with your squad and have a good strategy. I love that shit. And this is going to be one of those experiences. I'm putting a GTFO stream next week on the calendar.
Starting point is 00:47:48 I'm not here next week. Yeah, well, we're going to play without you. I want to play with everyone. Come on. We got to do one with, we also got to do one for, well, I don't know when this game, I don't think this game will come out in early access this year. Oh, yeah? Just based on like where they, I don't know, maybe, who knows?
Starting point is 00:48:04 But I think it would be a great Halloween type spooky stream because it's a scary game. Like the enemies are horrifying in this game. That's six months. Wait, Denham, what is there horrifying? No, no, GTFO. I assume that from tendrils and everyone else, but I thought we took. But, you know, Mike, I'm just thinking, you know, obviously that's a long time for now. But we got Nuslock.
Starting point is 00:48:24 We got Kallel, dude. We got a lot of the books. We're going to put it out of the books. We're going to play. Yeah, I appreciate that. Put on the books. And I appreciate your time, Nick. Hey, thanks for me.
Starting point is 00:48:33 You don't come over to the games cast enough if you asked me. I would love to do this anytime you guys have anything that I can talk about. Ladies, gentlemen, and NB's. We hope you enjoyed this preview of Den of Wolves coming hopefully soon. But GTFO sounds amazing too. So Andy sold me at two games today. So I got to go get both these and be ready to go. and get out there.
Starting point is 00:48:51 Dude, you invite... It's like alien, man. It's so dark and it's like just foggy everywhere in the light. I could swear you played it with us. No, he didn't. No, never? It's fun.
Starting point is 00:49:01 I'm in. I'm excited. Let's do it. Of course, this is what we do here on the kind of funny games cast. Each and every day, we come to do with the biggest previews, reviews, and topics we need to talk about
Starting point is 00:49:09 in video games. If you like that, consider picking up a kind of funny membership. Of course, that membership gets you all of our shows ad-free and a daily podcast for me, Greg Miller in a series we call Greg Way. Most importantly, though, keeps this small business's 11-person dream alive.
Starting point is 00:49:23 Keeping dreams alive is a big deal for us, and that's why we're broadcasting all day long, as always. Me and Mike are about to go play, Monster Hunter. All day. What level am I? I don't know. We're going to play. I'm going to immediately leaves that's behind.
Starting point is 00:49:35 Of course, tomorrow's the big, big, big, big day, though. Stars in the bank gets cashed in, and as I take on Tim Gettys, which, by the way, it reminds me. There was super chats. None of them were actually about Den of Wolves. People were chatting away in there, which is great. Kyle says, Greg, I can't believe you folded to the man. Early stream for stars in the bank.
Starting point is 00:49:53 How far our heroes fall? Wow. Wow. Wow. Holded. Kyle, I'm sick of all this buildup. Okay? It's time to unleash the beast.
