Fantasy Critic is, of course, very similar to fantasy football, fantasy basketball, any fantasy sport you might know, except it's built for nerds like us. The idea is that at the beginning of the year, you draft a team of games, leave half of your team blank after the draft. You then, of course, draft a counter pick.

What happened? Just looking at Tim's face. We boomed him. We boomed him so hard. He's stunned. think anyone watching this will ever deny that you boomed to be hard. You're a generous lover, Mike.

And the best part about it, we were talking so loud in the office when just Tim was there, because we were like, Tim's not listening to us. We know he has completely, has so much shit going on. Never seen this coming. Someone in the chat, I'm just dying at the chat right now, but somebody was just like, all I'm thinking about is those two poor, innocent people.

You also do a counterpick. There's a bunch of rules we'll get into maybe eventually. But the idea basically is that every point above 70, you get a point. This is off of open. off of Open Critic. Every point below 70, you would lose a point. Then, of course, throughout the year, the reviews come in.

You see the things tabulate. You discover who it will win. And clearly, Snowbike Mike has won kind of funny fantasy critic, 2025 with a total of 138 points. I'm rounding up as they do as well. Congratulations, Michael. Woo! Acknowledge me.

I feel we'll just go down the list. Behind him incredibly, incredibly close was, of course, boss baby productions. That's Barrett Courtney. Barrett gets second place with 131 points. That dang close. A mere seven point. Andy just boom?

But like that felt like a smaller project. I want to be able. Rewind a minute and a half and listen to how Tim is talking.

Mike, you boomed him. This kid's boom. Yeah. He's boomed. I've been boomed myself. I boomed myself so hard back then. Because yeah, the 3D platformer, I was kind of doomed there no matter what. Then we get down to Resident Evil Requiem.

Like the moment that, that also I was very confident in being this year. And it wasn't just shy. It's not a bad. Yeah, again, again. The main line, you got to take a shot. You got to take a shot. You got to take a risk. I respect it.

I understand. It got you zero points, of course, because it didn't release, and it was counterpicked, meaning you could not drop this game. What does it commission? We get one drop. Is that the deal?

You get one free drop. You can drop anything. You get three drops for games that don't have release dates or that aren't releasing in 2025. They'll get delayed or something. But they have to say they're not coming. They have to say they're not coming. When we get to my team,

you'll see me locked in with a few. From there was pick number two, you took Pokemon Legends Z-A. with this amount of players you know what I mean even a round two pick you're already dropping down to like all right there's not the sure fire this prop might get over 90 type games

so it's like you just go for the thing you're like all right I want some points on the board some guaranteed I'm sorry the champion would like to speak he says that but if you look at the pick after him in the draft one snow bike Mike selected Expedition 33 yeah but nobody believed in it yet

no one believed in that all you had the vision you were crazy to do that I believe I believe I believe Bear counterpicked that. And that was a fair thing. I boomed him. No, I didn't counterpicked it. Roger counterpicked it.

That was a fair thing. Yeah, thank you. I appreciate it because the audience thinks that I'm insane for that, but there was only one trailer. There was only one trailer. Only one trailer. A lot of us doubted it, you know.

Doubted it didn't even come out. Yeah, it had a Gallum in it. And Gallum just had a bad year with video games. You never know. You were reading the T leaves. After that, of course, you picked 2X-KO, another one that

is not releasing, of course. zero points for that one. Yeah. From there we go to Dragon Quest 1 and 2 HD 2D remake. That got you 15 points with an 85 an open critic. Resident Evil Requiem,

you of course picked. It didn't release, but you were also counterpicked so you could not drop it. Zero points there. The Midnight Walk brought you in 10 points with an 80. Then you went Darwin's paradox.

After this, like midnight walk was the last one that I felt confident in and then it was just like, I need to pick up games because I had money left. There was spaces left. It was just like,

whatever's going on. And I was busy. I was really trying to fight. I didn't do what Andy normally does and just not play. I was playing. Damn. He's only talking shit when you're in Texas right now. No, that's that's that's.

But here's so talk. I'm sorry, and I should have said, commission is it what we get five, is this draft six or five rounds? I forget. I believe the first original draft is five rounds. Yes.

And then the six pickups, you can leave blank and bid throughout the year. Did you do the thing where you bid all right away? Tim, I forget. No, no, I, that's what I'm saying. It's like, I was trying to play, and I got out bid. At one point, you bid for the God of War Greek game. Yeah.

Which I'm glad you bid higher than me because I think I might have also bid for it, but you won that one. Yeah, so you're running up the team then, yeah, Darwin's Paradox. Life of the Eternal Goldman, which did not, there's just blank, so I don't even know what the deal is with that one. This is not out yet. Yeah, that never got like an official delay, I believe. Yeah, but yeah. Mofi, the old country brought you in four points and Silent Hill. Hey, F got you 16 points.

you got wrecked with your counter pick. Of course, the counterpick during draft, you have to look at everyone else's team and you have to pick a game saying, I think that won't release, so it'll get zero points. I mean, best case scenario is you say

that game's going to be trash, you pick it, it's below 70. The points the other team lose, you would get. But you get into a Sophie's choice where like, yeah, everybody's team looks good. So we're really trying to pick a game

that maybe we don't know about or wouldn't come out. Hence the clear obscure counterpick, but in your case, you counterpick. dispatch losing you 17 points. Would not expect this game to come out this year. I'm still shocked that it did.

I thought it was going to be good. Didn't expect it to be as good as it is, but this is not me picking this because I thought the game was going to be bad. And to be it wasn't a similar clear obscure thing as well because that had only just got announced the game awards. Like we had the one trailer. Andy doesn't like it either. So. Yeah, well we, we, you know, Michael's like 6 o'clock, be there. And then he eventually played the Exposition 33 until 620 and then finally join me. Simon's calling. Yeah, he is. Yeah, he is. I do want to, we've talked a lot about how Tim got boomed.

They're a really good team together. These two. Anyways, with my second pick, I took Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater. It got me 15 points. Then I started playing to the audience and also being a troll a bit. I took Indiana Jones in the Great Circle, the Order of the Giants, of course, a game that I didn't love Indiana Jones, as you all know.

I'm probably the only person in the video game industry who didn't at review. And so I thought, well, this would be the chance for the industry to reward that game. And that got me two points. That was a bad call. Then the same thing. Before picking it, I couldn't pick me to the hollower out of a fucking lineup. But I'm like, I know there. I know Yacht Club.

I know it matters. I know they're great. Pick that. That as you see is one that is not. not coming out this year. It was supposed to come this year. Then it was indefinitely delayed. But they made it sound like it wasn't a big delay.

But I can't get out of it. So it's just on my list. I was convinced it was going to be a TGA shadow drop. I'm surprised. Honestly shocked that. I didn't have a call. I then rolled the dice. And I talked about an article about it, by the way.

There was like an update after the initial delay where it felt like it was going to be a short delay. And now it feels like it's going to be a much longer one. Yeah. But even that, it was like that was more the woes of how long. this game is taking. Nobody said, not this year. So maybe I get a few more points. I'll never catch the next one.

Anyways, Moonlighter 2, the endless balls I picked at the time of picking it. There was debate. Is this an early access game? And they had an icon there forever. Then when you hover it over it, it said, PR has confirmed this will not release an early access. And of course, it was an early access game. So I got zero points because it's out, but it's not being reviewed.

Then you get to what I will call the Xbox shit show. Yeah. We went to GDC. We, you know, do this in January. You go to GDC in March. I go to the Xbox GDC event and I'm like, I need to find cool fantasy critic indies that are going to get me some points. And I go, you know, I play Wheelworld and that game demos so fucking well. But I'm like, yes, thank you.

Boom. Take it. That gets me three points in the end. And of course, I am one of the reviewers who was like, damn, this did, this was my most anticipated game. And it did not live up to my expectations whatsoever. sadly it's one of those games that demo well and doesn't play excellent. Same thing with To a T.

To a T comes out from the creator of Catamari Damasi. I love Catamari. This is cute. This is weird. It's got songs. It's got this cute kid. Yes. Then you play the game like, oh, it's the one song over and over. You know, the gameplay isn't engaging. That gets me zero points, which is better than negative, but not true.

There's a little bit more. I'll give you a 72 on that one. Okay, I'll take it. You'll say 73. Oh, wow. Hey, look. Yeah. No, look at a head charm. Hurdling is another one. I take a chance. on from that GDC thing and it pays off 10 points. I'm always looking for double digits. That's what I want out of these things. So I get hurtling and I get 10 points and I'm happy with that.

Then C-Stars had announced their DLC, throws of the watchmaker. Pretty big surprise there. Getting 17 points for a DLC. We'll talk about it later. We'll talk about it. And then Octopath Traveler Zero. Of course, I love Octopath as a series. As you all probably know, listen to this show. Octopath Traveler Zero ends up being my game

of the year. It gets me 12 points, but it was still a, okay, I'm going to the dice on this one. I'm going to go for it and see what's up. And I counterpicked Grand Theft Auto 6, which of course is Mike's pick. As we all had to be like, probably not coming out. And that got me a hot, hot, 69 points, which is enough to get it done.

We turn our eyes to the one, the only, Paris, Lily. After this, remind me to take an ad break. I have no idea how deep we are on the show, but I feel like we're right around there. You're right around there, yeah. Great. It feels like it's been four hours. Yeah. Positiveity P pops in with the first pick in the fantasy draft of 2025, they take Hollow Knight's Silk Song.

It gets you 22 points. Great pick. Paris. Fuck yeah. Well, actually, my real first pick was Fable and I had to drop. Oh, no. I forgot that. The second round pick. Yeah. Yeah, Silk Song was the second round pick, yeah. Wow.

Then you went like a dragon, pirate EQ's in Hawaii. Got you 11 points. Yeah, not bad. Yeah. Not bad. Yeah. I think the next one, you're going to get more points if someone were to bet on that one. Yeah. The Kwami 3, dark dies. Oh, I see your saying. Then you got Assassin's Creed Shadows That also got you 11 points Then you go Outer Worlds 2

Oh yeah, go ahead, please be that. Yeah, I know I was gonna say I was a little like that's a fine score I honestly thought it was gonna be high 80s I did It needed to be for it being the you know The location that the fans have been asking for for 15 years Right, exactly. Yeah, yeah

From there you move on And you go into the Outer Worlds 2 A game I love and gets you 13 points I would have expected higher from that. Hope for higher from that. But maybe to a 15. Yeah, I thought mid-80s is kind of what my thinking was. The next one is probably my biggest disappointment.

Yeah, but this is a calculated move. You get Adam Fall. Sadly, Adam Fall and Open Critic ends with a 75 getting you five points. That was a game of like they're not making fallout. We will make a fallout. We will make it more obtuse. Like you need, and not in a bad way, but like discover where to go. Go to the southeast.

and you have to find it. Like, that's cool. Then you pick the altars. I got you 16 points. Nice. Great pick. Yeah. Yeah.

Yeah. That one was head on on my radar for a while. And yeah, it delivered. It was great game. You pick up Kirby Air Riders. You get 12 points.

Hey, good job. Hell, yeah. And then after this, this is where I was just panicking and trying to find anything. Hey, it works for you.

You get Borderlands for it. You get 12 points. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Then you get Blackout seven. Yeah, that loses you five points. That's a 65. Yeah,

that and a little nice. Nightmares 3, I was just like, damn. I really thought Little Nightmares 3 was going to score higher than that. So, yeah, that was a bummer as well. Yeah, Little Nightmares. Yeah, Little Nightmares only gets you that one point. But more importantly, Black Off 7 is the only game picked in this league that lost points. Counterpicks is a city.

One of the questions I asked was, what should be banned. And across the board, it seemed like consensus was pretty much already what the rules were, except for one cast. which is partial remakes. And so as of now, right, most people believe that partial remix should be banned. And that would be a new category for us that would be banned.

Examples of partial remakes are games like Demon Souls in 2020, Shadow Colossus 2018, GTA, the trilogy. Fancy Critic lists a partial remake as a category that is hard to define. There are a lot of games that are a little too remade to be a remaster, but too similar to be a remake, they live here. Now, when I go through Rogers' current draft and pick out games that are considered partial remix. That does include Xenobled Chronicles X definitive edition, the Talus Principle reawkened, and Final Fantasy Tactics, the Evil Leaf Chronicles. Why is he on trial right now? Yeah, let's go out through game by game, right? The Talos Principle reawken. That was a full-on remake of the original Talos Principle in a brand new engine with an entirely new setup so

then you can build new things. It's a brand new game. That's a brand new thing that they based off of the original Talisprice. They reawakened. They reawakened. Final Fantasy Tactics, the Evil East Chronicles, That game, they lost all the code. So they had to rebuild the game from scratch. So how are you telling me that you're going to ban me being able to pick the fantasy tactics? I'm just listening to the people. The fantasy tactics. All I did was I bold people.

That's an actual remake of a video game. But we're going off of what the website says. For me, that's the only way I can make this completely fair is to go y'all decide over here. Yeah. So pretty close. Okay. Sure. Then you picked Mix tape. And not only did it not come out this year was counterpicked a zero point. Mix tape was my biggest mistake of this fantasy critic year. It's a tough one knowing that hearing Greg's impressions coming off of Summer Game Fest,

I know that game is going to be a banger. And so to have it not come out this year really sucks. And for it to get counterpicked, so I wasn't able to drop it. That was, I think, one of the key things that didn't allow me to rise in that top two. Then you picked Possessors. Two points. Another tough decision. Another one that I had big hopes in.

I know how much A&D and a lot of people love games like Hyper Light Drifter. And Hart Machine is a studio that I think we all love and respect. And so you would hope that, okay, they're putting out a new 2D action, 2D Metro-Vania game. That's going to be fire. I think that was a good bet you made. It just didn't pay off. You didn't do anything wrong there. Yeah.

We also like, we also did the Steam Next Fest demo and it was awesome because it was like the section of the game that felt, you know, very, very complete. When did you pick it up? Did you pick it up when it was just like a teaser or after you played that Next Fest demo? Oh, that's a good question. I want to say I picked it up toward the summer because I was like purposely not trying to pick a lot of stuff up in the first half of the year. So it must have been during Steam Next Fest.

Okay. Then you go with Bionic Bay, you get 16 points. Hey. Yeah. That was one, I forget where I heard about Bionic Bay, but that was one that I, it must have been like a showcase or something, saw the gameplay of it. And, oh, no, it was definitely like a Steam Next Fest thing because I heard people talking about it and I looked at the gameplay and went, oh, this is going to be a banger for sure.

It, I believe, dropped closer to 90 and then the score dropped down over time a little bit, but I'm still happy with this. Then you fall for that indie siren song and you go with skin deep, getting you just seven points. I blame George from Pop agenda for this. He was really talking up Skin Deep. And to be fair, I played a little bit of Skim Deep. I see what's incredible about that game. I do think that game does a lot of special things,

but also it's a game that is not for everybody. It's an immersive sim with a really particular art style that I don't think hit for most people, but it is what it is. Sometimes you make risks, you take risks, and they don't pan out. Then this is where one of those you broke my heart. I'm like, I don't know,

early in the year, I'm very, I'm not, it's not that I'm ever inactive on Fantasy Critic, but I'm way more thinking of it. And Lumenessa Rise gets denounced. And I never even thought to go drop something, pick it up or pick it up if I had a spot or whatever. You pick up Luminosa Rise, you get 16 points off of it. Yes.

Hell of you have about that. Congratulations. This one I learned from last year where I missed out on drafting Astrobot. And if I spent all my money, I could have gotten Astrobot. So this year after Summer Game Fest season, I was like, okay, I got to make sure that I'm drafting things. Then you're- I spend money to make money. Your final one has consumed me 13 points.

I was hoping for more from it. Sure. That's another indie one, right, that we talk about. But it was getting it got the Shamus McNally Award for. from CDC has been talked up a lot. I was hoping it could get me closer to like an 88, 89. But knowing what that game is, even an 83 for it, pretty good.

That's not bad. For the people who love it, they adore it, but it just didn't hit for everybody that same way. And he's looking at Fantasy Creek for the first time. You go with Ninja Guide and Ragebound. It gets you 16 points. Hell yeah. A lot of 16s here. This is definitely one of those. You showed me at the end of the year.

The combat is like a rhythm game essentially. Yeah, and Everhood won reviewed at like an 82 or 83. And this being a sequel, I was like, all right, it was like a really liked indie game. I feel like this could be one of those that like maybe reviews as well, if not better than the first everhood. And it just didn't pay out, unfortunately. Those gambols, you got to take them. Yeah. Because that's what I was thinking with Citizen Sleeper as well.

Like that reviewed mid-80s. And I was like two will probably review around there. So, yeah. From there, did I do Shinobi? Shinobi Art of Vengeance got you. 17 points. Oh, yeah. That game's rad as hell.

Cosmic invasions being made by the team that made Shredder's revenge. And that reviewed so well, it was like, all right, this is it of like, can I catch up to Mike? And an hour into cosmic invasion, like, you know, two weeks before review embargo, I knew immediately. I was like, I'm not winning fantasy critic. I, like, I knew cosmic invasion was just. not going to get me to that. Like, I think Shredder's Revenge was at like an 87, I think, when it got reviewed.

Yeah, so I wanted to close out this episode talking about the future of Fans Critic, of course. We don't have major changes. We love doing this. We're going to keep doing this. I wanted, after this year, that a little conversation about the rules. Specifically, I put out a poll to the people in the office

that play Fans Critic, wanted to gather a little bit of data to help set the tone for where we're going in the future with it. So I put out the poll. I asked four questions, how should turn order go? What should be banned? Should we allow trades? And what's your preferred minimum bid amount?

We already kind of talked about a couple of these. As far as what should be banned already went through it. It seems like partial remix are the only new thing that the consensus of people seem like they would like banned. And so going to the future. I'm interested like if we have the time and if we don't shut me up, I am interested in the stats here. Because I don't even, I don't know where people stand on some of these things. I didn't even realize some of these things were problems. So seven people wrote in, even though we have eight contestants.

I don't know who didn't write in. I didn't because it's been busy and I forgot to do it. Fair enough. But four people voted that we should, hold on, which we were going to talk about trades? I forget which one we're on. But four people said that we should allow trades. Three people said that we shouldn't. As far as, oh, as far as what should be banned, that's what we're on.

Four people voted that partial remix should be banned out of the seven people that wrote in. Were there any other categories people voted on? I don't remember doing this. And so we had games already in Early Access. That's a category that's already banned. Five people. Most people said that that should be banned. We have upcoming games for Early Access.

So if a game is about to release in Early Access, three people said that those should be banned. That's not the majority of people. We had Directors Cut. Five people said that those should be banned. That's already banned, and that's the majority of people. We have, let's see, Remaster, which is already a banned category. Six people said that that should be banned.

That is the vast majority of the seven there. We have Remake, which constitutes things like, Legend Zelda Link's Awakening, Crash Insane Trilogy. That's not banned currently. Only two people said it should be banned. So that's not the majority. Partial remake is the only one where it is that's not banned currently. Four people vote that that should be banned going into the future.

That's the majority. We also had reimagining in yearly installments. Nobody thinks those should be banned. And then we have expansion packs where DLC, things like that, only two people voted in that those should be banned. Wow. Yeah. Even two people, how many people are here, it's like, that's, I'm surprised. that there's that much dissent.

Animosity. Yeah. That much, yeah, that much variety. I wish I remembered what I voted. Yeah,

yeah, that'd be helpful. Going back up to turn order. So turn order is interesting. There was no consensus on how turn order should go. Two people. The king makes the rules.

Yeah, that's why I'm two. One, two, three. That's it, done. The rest, toss up. So out of the seven people that voted in,

two people think that first place should pick where they want to go, then we randomize. Two people think that we should go last to first. Two people think that we should completely randomize and one person thinks that we should throw a turn. My thing here is I feel like,

and this is, I know I'm painting with a very broad brush, but I feel like our, we don't have enough sports fans here. Where it should be last place gets first pick. Like that's just, that makes perfect sense, I feel. Yeah.

Since there's no consensus, I'm actually down to let the champ decide. I like that. I will take first pick and then I don't care what happens. You said two and him three? All right. I feel like the first three is like an insane ass for... I'm going to move into 2026 and forget about this.

I get first baked that. There we go. I mentioned trades before. Should we allow trades? I checked this before I even got to vote. And it was a 3-3 tie with the six people voting in. I voted in to break the tie. And I said, yes, there should be trades.

I should have voted. Yeah, you should have voted Barrett. And so trades we turned on next year. Mike mentioned the two trades per person. I don't think that's a mechanic that's in the website, but I'll look into it to see what their options are, because I do like that. Perfect.

And these are, you can just trade. There's no, we don't have to go to you and be like, hey, we want to trade this thing because that would be against.

I would keep it as just, yeah, you can trade, but I'm going to look into the tools to give me so we can figure something out there. And then the last one, preferred minimum bid amount.

Everybody was 100% that they want people to at least bid one dollar. I didn't know that there was opinions on public trading versus secret trading or not trading, sorry, public bidding

versus secret bidding that I'm going to look into. I like that's for you, Mike. I like secret bidding. I will say reading the site while we're doing this episode, they make it seem like public bidding is for like people who are not as hardcore into following games because sometimes you'll have these leagues where people aren't paying attention to new game releases and so you have public bidding so that they get the notification. So here's the thing.

As you all know, I was raised in the mean streets of Monopoly. And of course, Monopoly gets a bad rap. It takes too long. And that's because you're playing with house rules. You're playing with free parking. And mainly you're not playing with auctions. which would be that when you go and you land on fucking Baltic Avenue, if you don't want to buy it,

you say, I don't want to buy it, and then it goes to a public auction. This is probably just drop Baltic Avenue. I like Monop's. I like Monops. So it's one of those where I'm not a guy. Immediately, I tense because of what the game has been,

but to go to a Monops format, I wouldn't be against being like, oh, there is a public, we're bidding currently on a game I would have easily brought up. But I like the idea of somebody for being dialed in. Yeah, exactly. For dialing in, finding a game

and being like, oh shit, I didn't even know that that game was coming out, like, that type of thing. I think that is like a purity to this game that I think if we take that away. I think there's like a level of strategy you take away from that if we go public. I agree with that as well. I think secret bidding is more suited for us

because we are tuned in and we are following everything. Champ, what do you say? I just forget a lot. I give it the thumbs up. I like that. Andy, real quick, too, before this ends, can you bring your down on camera?
